What is your name or nickname? Michelle

What do you like to do for fun? Read and go for walks

What diet are you following? Mainly concentrating on cutting back on amount, cannot have fish (allergic to all types) and I find that a lot of diets I come across this is a major factor.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking on treadmill or at park.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? An old ankle injury has been acting up making long walks difficult.

If you did a previous 5% challenge tell us about it. No this will be my very first one and excited to get started.

Two fun facts about you. 1) I am a part-time radio host for a local rock station as well as produce the local high school radio sports. 2) I am a mother of 5 (1 girl and 4 boys: 19,18,15,11,9)

Anything else you would like to share? I am excited to do this, I am hoping I can get in better shape before summer officially gets here. This year marks 20 yrs since I have been out of high school and if the virus will ever fully go away I may get to see some of my old classmates in person instead of online, would be a nice change.

What do you like to do for fun? Game Nights (traditional board games not these newer card/resource type games they are too complicated and way too long!

What diet are you following? Right now I am just learning to track my food and increase my awareness of my eating choices.

What is your favorite exercise? Treadmill walking to my favorite music!

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Increasing water intake and decreasing sweets.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Well, I didn't get in under the wire, I don't think, for this one even. It would be my first and it seems like a very well-run team with the majority of kinks worked out, smooth running... I like that. I feel I can trust I would get the encouragement, feedback and support in equal return to what I would be putting out in kind.

2 random fun facts about you? I am a retired freelance court reporter and I am a retired freelance makeup artist though I'll dapple if the project interests me.

Anything else you would like to share? Even if I don't get to go this time, I am thrilled I discovered you now, early on in this journey of mine.

Hi my name is Jenny.

It's just turning cooler here in Melbourne as we head into Autumn. We are isolating here of course, but I do have a carer capacity for my mother and Aunty, so I visit them a few times a week and take care of them.

I am a single mum of one teen boy who is handling all this remarkably well, chatting to his friends online between helping me catch up on work around the house and garden that I hadn't had time for before! We are just starting to make a stop-motion video together which will be a bit of fun.

I like gardening, reading, art, and community life. I work in Early Childhood Development.

It's good to be here and feel the community spirit toward health.

For fun I read, garden and I'm one of those "CRAZY" people who like working out.

For my diet I basically just watch portion size.

Favorite exercise, work out with Jessica Smith and other video's, and walk either outside or on my TM.

Personal challenge, More then likely just as everyone else, just trying to get through this self isolation.

What are you most excited about for this upcoming year? Healing from a March 4 Total Knee Replacement.

Three things you love: God, Husband, and being in God's will.

Three things you dislike: complaining, most reality tv, lies.

Three things you want to get out of this challenge: More energy, continued healing, healthier food choice with more plant-based foods and less sugars.

One thing you'd like to share: i am so very blessed and enjoy my many faith-based small groups. I volunteer at my alma mater as a liaison to The World Student Association on the campus I also retired at.


Within 24 hours of my total knee replacement, I was home with my sweetie munching on a homemade chocolate covered cherry (Dan and his daughter own a local candy store).

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? We moved this past year and my husband was living in the house we couldn't sell but all is well now and we are adjusting together to our new community.

2 random fun facts about you? I have been happily married for 39.5 years, we have a pack of three dogs and a cat. We have 5 adult children and 2 granddaughters.

Anything else you would like to share? I have been a member of Sparkpeople for about 10 years and haven't missed a day of logging on for over 7 years. I write down everything I eat whether I am proud of it or not. (NOT happens a lot!) Life presents challenges everyday- but it is how you deal with them that matters!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis. Basically I have chronic pain, but it doesn't hold me back.

This is my 4th 5% Challenge. I wrote a blog about my experience if you would like to read it. The first one was a flop, the second one was a dud, but the 3rd challenge was excellent!

2 random fun facts about you?

I'm growing flowers for the first time. They are beautiful! I also love to teach children. I am a children's swim instructor

Anything else you would like to share?

I am taking two online courses from different instructors in Tai Chi. I am really excited about it. I know both teachers. One personally and the other is a world renowned teacher. Both teachers have different things to offer. Both teachings are special to me. They are very detailed and methodical. One is on You Tube and the other is on Facebook. This will be the core of my 5% exercise/activity.

I love to read and hike. I enjoy entertaining the family (currently via skype) . I prefer the warm weather because I like to be outside. I also crochet and build with Legos.

What diet are you following?
I follow the Isagenix diet. I also do my best to stay whole 30 (3 ingredients or less and mostly fresh).

What is your favorite exercise?
Walking: I am currently doing a lot of Leslie Sansone and the Firm videos. I have to keep up my strength training too.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season?
I am under a lot of stress with the COVID-19 and keeping myself and my family safe.
If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.
My first challenge was the 5 percent Spring challenge 2019. This challenge marks my 1 year with the 5% and I love the motivation. The team work is wonderful. I enjoy meeting new people.

2 random fun facts about you?
When I visit a new place, I try to visit every attraction available even if I have only one day.
I can go for several days and never turn on the TV other than to workout. I canít miss a day for checking email or logging my food.

Anything else you would like to share?
I have been telecommuting for about 3 years so this self-isolation and working at home is easy. I work long hours. For the last few weeks, I have been working out in the morning. It has helped decrease some of my stress.

What diet are you following? I am a TOPS so I am presently following their guidelines but adapting to what I know works for me.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking, rebounding and my gazelle.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? I had 2 bouts with prednisone over the winter. Prednisone weight does not come off easy for me.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. After 42 challenges I took winter 2019 off to reevaluate and spend time seeking God. I missed the challenge and feel ready to participate along with the other things I am involved in.

2 random fun facts about you? I practice kinesiology as a business and treat people in my home and online or phone. I am a Christian Counselor and also minister from my home and online.

What is your name or nickname? Hello everyone! My name is Beverly. I am a recently retired nurse, and live in coastal North Carolina. I heard about this challenge from my Spark friend, Dianedoessmile and thought Iíd give it a try!

What do you like to do for fun? oh gosh...so many things! I sing in two choral groups, including a performance group. I enjoy the theater, golf, gardening, reading, decorating, and organizing.

What diet are you following? Calorie counting mostly. I am trying to limit my calories to 1400 or less/day. I also am limiting processed foods, as well as refined sugars. No food group is off limits, but I am watching it closely to make sure I get a balanced diet. I use not only SP app, but also my Samsung Health app, which has been a game changer for me.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking! We live in a new community with beautiful canals and coastal wildlife. I never know what Iíll see when I go around a bend! I also enjoy free weight strength training, aerobics, Zumba, barre fitness, and water aerobics.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? My overall goal is to lose 84 pounds in a healthy manner that is sustainable. I set small goals on a monthly basis. This month I challenged myself to lose 4 pounds, and to do strength training at least twice/week. Iíve lost the 4 already, but am working on the strength training aspect of my goal.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Have not done one. Iím looking forward to this!

2 random fun facts about you? I have three dogs: A 12.5 y/o Great Pyrenees who is completely blind, a 3y/o Old English Bulldog/Boxer mix, and a 2 y/o Old English Bulldog. All three pups are rescues!

We bought a used boat recently and are looking forward to cruising the intracoastal waterways!

Anything else you would like to share? My husband and I have been married for 39 years. We have 4 adult children (3 boys and 1 girl), and are overjoyed to welcome 2 young granddaughters into our family, a result of our oldest sonís wifeís children.

Iíve been a member of SP since 2011, but have not had success in getting to my goal, let alone maintaining it. I believe this has been my ďall or nothingĒ attitude, as well as working a stressful job. Iíve since relaxed this attitude, am educating myself on health and fitness as well as emotional eating, thanks to SP. this time...it feels different and I believe I can do it...because I believe in myself!

I am 72 years old. Wife of a very supportive husband, mother of three wonderful adult children and grandmother of 7 beautiful Grandchildren.

My Aunt, who was like a second mother to me dubbed me Suzie when I went to live with her. Hence the name Suzieqiam.

I like to meet with friends and family at dinner. I donít do it too often but really enjoy keeping up with them.

I live in northern BC, Canada with my husband. Our three grown up children live in three differnt locations and the two who live quite a distance from us, visit us and we visit them. It is great to have one of our children living nearby with his family. We are retired teachers.

What do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy getting together with our family and friends, cooking, working on crafts and art, knitting, reading, gardening, skiing, swimming, walking and biking.Just being outdoors is great. Also, dancing to good music is a fun way for me to exercise.

I am trying to eat when hungry and stop when I feel satisfied. As simple as that sounds, it is not easy when something looks and tastes good. I would also like to eat more fruit and vegetables and fewer carbs.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to go camping with my DH. When we camp we do a lot of hiking. I also like to do crafty projects but right now my time is limited. And I love, love to read.

Hi, my name is Valerie. Most people call me Val.

I like to play board games and DnD with my friends. I do a lot of crossword puzzles and I am on a British mystery series kick at the moment.

I just found out in September that I have type 2 diabetes so I am low-carb and sugar-free. I'm okay with that. I still have a good 30-40 lbs to lose so it's apparent I've had enough pasta and candy for more than one lifetime :)

I've been doing the elliptical quite a bit. I also just try to be more active in general lately. More yard work, more cleaning and household projects.

I've lost 22lbs but about a month ago I hit a plateau that I can't seem to get past. I'm under 200 finally but only just. I would like to get out of the 190s.

Random and fun facts about me; winged eyeliner is probably 50% of my personality. I have flat feet. Also struggling with plantar facitis at the moment. Losing weight seems to help.

Hi, my name is Janette and everyone calls me Janet, but I still spell it as Janette.

For fun, I like to read and watch comedies. One of my all time favorites is Meet the Parents. I have seen it over a dozen times and it still makes me laugh to this day.

I am not on a specific diet. I found that I do better eating responsibly with a few treat days along with tracking my food on Sparkpeople to stay within my calories works best for me.

My favorite exercise would be....hmmm...none of them...lol...I used to love aerobics, but then I developed arthritis in my knees so I had to start doing water aerobics. Seriously, I do like working out most times so when I can't get out I do Leslie Sansone, Donna Richardson, or a home aerobics tape. (My knees are starting to improve...yayyy)

I would say my challenge is that I will lose weight really well and then I will plateau for a while.

2 random fun facts about me is 1) that I got my undergraduate and graduate degree from the same University and 2) I am the second oldest out of six kids.

I am really looking forward to this challenge as my niece gets married at the end of April and wish to have lost as much weight as possible. I have lost approximately 64 pounds so far and still have a long way to go so this challenge will push me even further and may help me with my plateau issues.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to read, and knit when the mood strikes. Space out watching food network reality shows.

What diet are you following? No specific diet - just trying to eat healthier.

What is your favorite exercise? Treadmill. Also do qigong (like a slower version of tai chi)

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Emotional eating - stress triggers it.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I haven't done this before.

2 random fun facts about you? I am a pet parent for 5 cats. Also have 1 adult son & 2 grandsons (15-1/2 & almost 3). Work as a service admin full time for a forklift company.

Anything else you would like to share? Need to get motivated again!

Hi everyone. My name is Ruth. For fun, I like to be active - walking groups, pole walking, sometimes running but my knee is bothering me at the moment. I like exploring nature and taking photos. Following a diet is probably my problem ... I don't really follow one and I haven't been tracking my food for a while. For the season of Lent, I decided to fast between meals. Snacking is my downfall and instead of snacks I've been trying to drink more water. I am looking forward to connecting with this group and getting back on track.
My favourite exercise is walking or hiking.
At the moment, I'm sick (cold) so that is a challenge but I'm looking forward to getting back on track and healthy again.
This will be my first time participating with a challenge.
Fun facts about me: I'm married to Bruce and we have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren (2 & 5). We like to travel. We have a small RV and in my retirement year we did my dream trip across Canada in the RV. It was great (we took our 2 dogs with us and discovered they like travelling too).

What is your name or nickname? My name is JoAnn but some people like to call me Jo

What do you like to do for fun? I like to play the piano, read, visit with friends at church.

What diet are you following? SP...I really just try to watch and eat healthy foods.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking is my favorite. My exercise choices are limited.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? My main issue is time which causes me not to do what I need to some time. The challenge will get me better centered.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have did four or five. Enjoyed each one. I took time off after a terrible fall I had. It had me off-kilter for quite a while and I am still recovering but I am able to do more.

2 random fun facts about you? I have 8 grandchildren (grown) and 13 great grands. Some of them are steps but I claim them just like the others. They are lots of fun. My son lives across from me and tries to keep me in line (That's hard to do). Frustrating for him but fun for me. At 81 years, I don't need too much help.

Anything else you would like to share? I have been a widow since 2011. I am adjusted now but still miss him and think of him a lot.

What diet are you following? "see food" - not really, I watch carefully and only eat real foods--very little sweets, and keep to clean foods

Anything else you would like to share? My husband is a pastor and we live in N. Carolina. Spent most of our lives in Maryland, moved to N. Carolina a few yrs ago and love the milder climate.

My biggest personal challenge is trying to tame my DHís clutter... many collections, thousands of books and many hundreds of videotapes, bordering on hoarding... causes emotional eating

I joined this challenge because Iím struggling to lose final 10 lbs. to reach goal, and I want to reach goal before our youngest daughter is getting married in September.

Hi!

My real name is Julie but on SP, you will find me under one4sun :-)

If I am not working, I like to read, hang with my Great Pyr August, putz on home projects and take walks.

I am not following any diet. Right now, just trying to be mindful of portions and when I eat. I am a huge mood/stress eater... so bad for me.

My favorite form of exercise is one that makes me feel peaceful and energized at the same time. Walking. I am considering upping it a little and trying hiking - though I am not truly clear on the difference at this point.

This is my first 5% Challenge and first challenge that I am striving to be active with. As far as goals, that would be it - being active with the challenge - and of course succeeding in losing the 5%

Random facts? Um, I am hard of hearing and have been so since the age of 23 years old... we never really figured out why. So online and one on one is great. I find trying to do group things stressful, I am always missing something or behind.

My name is Betty. I am a retired teacher and live at the Jersey Shore. For fun I like to walk, garden (grow my own organic veggies) and read. I go to the gym at least 3x a week and walk ton the days when I don't. For my diet, I just follow the guidelines on SP and drink a lot of water. I have never been a part of a challenge, so don't really know what to expect. I go to the beach all summer, and when I'm not at the beach, I am out on the boat. I love to clam!

My name is Maria and I live in central Delaware with my wonderful Hubby. WE have one daughter who lives in NJ with her husband and two beautiful daughters.

What do you like to do for fun? Since retirement, I love just getting in the truck with my husband and go on drives through the Delaware countryside. You never know what you will discover - a new place to eat or a new farmer selling their produce.

What diet are you following? I try to follow the dash diet, however, my husband does most of the cooking and he is a meat eater. I prefer veggies and pasta but we are trying to mix it up.

What is your favorite exercise? My favorite exercise is walking. My hometown has a vey large Walmart that is great to walk through during the winter. We also have several parks and trails in Milford and I use the 4 mile trail weekly. When no one is around, I also like to put on some good ole rock and roll and dance!

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? I have macular degeneration which has begun to limit my computer time. It's one of the reasons I dropped from being a team leader this challenge.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've been doing these challenges since 2011 and I love them. I love the friends I've made along the way and the weekly challenges that help keep me straight.

2 random fun facts about you? I have been singing in our church choir since I moved to DE in 1985. Currently, I am one of the cantors for mass each week.

Anything else you would like to share? Just a reminder that you get out of these challenges what you put into them. Kudos to the leaders who give so much of their time to set these up for us and keep the teams running.

I love to hike, groom horses, read and play with the dogs.

I am not really on a diet. I have always had issues with eating healthy and have destroyed my metabolism by forgetting to eat. I use Nutrisystem as a way to eat 3 meals a day when I am busy and working. I try to eat healthy and from the farm. Other than that we have huge organic gardens and buy our meats from local farmers.

My favorite exercise is hiking but I also love weight training. I sold my personal gym when I moved and there is no gym anywhere near where I now live so I have not done anything with weights in a couple years.

I am dealing with the desire to retire and the fear of doing so. I had the date all set and my move back over the mountains was scheduled and then I went on line and found my job is available on the other side of the mountains. Instead of cutting back I accepted a supervisor position. That has added anxiety and stress and I have ended February with a very small 1 lb weight loss due to eating away from my healthy menu.

I have never done a 5% challenge in the past

Two random fun facts about me? I am a dancer and love ballroom type dance especially Latin dancing. I intend to start up again as soon as I get back to the west coast! A second thing which may not really be fun but it was fun for me! I am a retired naval intel officer and loved it!
