Good for you Martha...sugar and wheat is well known as being inflammatory to the joints. We don't need it!!

The reason I went gluten free is because of inflammation in sacroiliac and leg, I'm not completely free of the pain but so much better, emoticon also cutting out sugar.

Martha I'm not only gluten free but about grain free too, except for rice. I can't tolerate dairy either...makes life and food a little hard but better then feeling sick!

Janet, the way you are doing is what I'm trying to do now + gluten free.
I'm new here also and have seen many die from complications of being overweight, some so young. You are wise to join us and let us help you on your journey to lose weight and become healthy.

Re exercising...I would say that just plain old walking is good enough for the most part. That's all I do these days and my weight is controlled by eating foods that aren't processed...cooking from scratch is the best way so we know what goes into it. Portion control is a thing to be aware of too. As we get older we aren't burning the calories like we used to and so we don't need so much food...
Don't ever give up emoticon emoticon

I had a friend that died of weight related issues. She was only 52. I was 10 years younger then her. She always said I was just like her and almost convinced me I would die at 52. One thing after another happened to me that happened to her. I had to think, I'm not even related to her, that's silly to think I will be just like her. I started to try eating healthier, I was 42 when she died. At 45 I had a hysterectomy, at 46 my OB retired and my internist wouldn't refill my HRT. Then I gained and gained and gained. I haven't been able to get it off and keep going up and down. I've been up to 230 and down to 208 just in the last few months. Within days I can change between those weights. I'm trying but I'm having a hard time exercising now because of my weight. If I do a deep knee bend don't expect me to get back up for a while. Hurts a lot. I'm trying and won't give up. I'll be making a doctor appointment soon and she will tell me I'll never lose weight because I won't try, even though my blood work always comes out good. She told me the last time if she was looking at the blood work and didn't see me she would have thought it was from a healthy young person. Growing up getting constantly criticized that doesn't help me keep a positive attitude. Liz

So sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. Sometimes we need something like that to give us a real wake-up call. Prayers for her friends and family and for you as you continue your weight loss journey.

Hi and a very warm emoticon to SparkPeople and our team.
So sorry to hear about your friend passing and yes, sometimes that's the wake up call that we need to start taking care of our own health.
I wish you lots of success...we have a weekly weigh in thread for this month and also you'd be very welcome to join us on the chat thread called Back Fence 35. Hope to see you there and thanks for posting here. emoticon
Hugs
Janet
