Hello,

I am new here also. I am allergic to all cillins and sporins. I also suspect a possible food allergy because of this hot hot breath and interior mouth (I call it dragons breath) it feels like its on fire in there. I have been experiencing it more at night. I don't know that it's an allergy but it certainly is suspect. I have seasonal hay feaver. I did have a sun allergy until I was 40. This went away and I don't care how. lol. Penicillin allergy came at 48 years out of the blue. I am also allergic to cedar, bleach, and to cats which I keep five of. It seemed like the humane thing to do at the time for those of you who are wondering what the heck am I doing with five cats. Sometimes I think it is more the amount of cats than an actual allergy. I found this website by accident when I was looking for ways to put on weight after my immediate dentures were put in. Eating has been quite a challenge since then. The heat inside my mouth compounds the challenge. I am so glad I found you all.

It is easier to change your mind than it is to change a bad decision after it's been implimented.

Hi All,
I'm a new member with sensitivity to a lot of stuff from smoke to fragrances but allergy tests turn up nothing. I also have to avoid cold and hot weather particularly when it's dry. I'm on a bunch of meds for sinuses and chest but they don't seem to keep a lid on things. Curiously hot peppers seem to help. I get a kick out of surfing the net for new info on asthma and allergies.

Hi all. I had originally joined spark a couple of years ago and then really did nothing with it. This time I am really going to try!

I have always been allergic to bees. Then once I gained all of this weight my allergies grew. But, it doesn't end there, I have allergies, asthma, high blood pressure and high cholesterol...all from being over weight and being a heavy smoker. I am hoping to get this all in check by keeping up with spark.

Hello all,

I am a new spark member and I have yet to get official allergy testing, but I know for sure that wheat and/or gluten is a no-no for me. Dairy is also not so great. Any recommendations on the best ways to get allergy tested? I do have medical insurance but it definitely doesn't cover everything.

HI,

I am allergic to all tree fruits, birch pollen, hay fever, tree pollen, grass, mold and bees/wasps/hornets. So hence my weight gain. If I want something sweet I usually turn to bad carbs and sugar. I can eat tree fruit cooked but then its soft and I would really like the actual cruchy apple or juicy peach. I did Southbeach a couple of years ago and lost 33lbs but since then the about 15lbs have crept back on. It is really hard when all you can eat is berries, grapes, and melon.... so far at least. My allergist seems to think that I could develope an allergy to those at anytime. So anybody else out there have bad fruit allergies???

Hello.

My allergy issues began when I was 21. It was my first year teaching, and I managed to get Mono. It was misdiagnosed, and then I was given a medication to which I was allergic (who knew?).

I ended up passing out in front of my kindergarten students! After a barrage of tests, months of basically not eating, vomiting blood and multiple trips to the Emergency Department, I went to an amazing healer in NYC. She took one look at my tongue and told me to stop eating wheat, eggs, and dairy. Instantaneously I felt better.

Turns out, the medication had perforated my stomach (something really easy to do because I have a history of Crone's Disease in my family) and everything I ate leaked into my blood stream causing an autoimmune reaction. I did an IGG antibody test and found out I was allergic to everything! Well, not really. But I was allergic to beef, chicken, wheat (and rye and barley and...), eggs, dairy, watermelon, certain fish, peanuts, etc.

It was a real challenge to find foods. But, with the help of my amazing New York physician, I was able to reintroduce foods into my diet slowly over the last 7 years. Now some of those allergies are intolerances (Yes!), and I've learned a lot about not eating packaged food!

Hi everyone, my name is Jan & I am from the UK, my allergies started when I was 14 when I became allergic to Streptococcus when I had a strep throat but instead of my system fighting it, it turned on me and I developed what is call Henoch schonleim purpura with bacterial meningitis, basically Henoch's purpura causes you bleed around every major organ including the brain and causes major organ failure mine being renal failure, Schonleim purpura causes you to bleed in every joint and with both of them is the purple rash on the body, the rarity was developing both together, either one was fatal not including meningitis and until the mid 80s I was the only known survivor. It left me with Very bad Asthma, severe migraines Allergies to Aspirin, all major pain killers apart from Paracetamol (Tylenol), all Antibiotics bar one and I carry an epipen around with me all of the time I am allergic to shellfish, duck, Azoe dyes in food and the usual hayfever during spring and summer, I have Osteoarthritis, osteo porosis and cataracts the last 2 caused by high dose steroids the only ant-inflammatory I can take.
Outside of that I am fine
I try to keep a healthy as I can and use a lot of old fashioned remedies when I do get sick (Garlic, Apple cider vinegar, lemons, honey, live yoghurt)and on the whole they work for me. emoticon emoticon

I have no idea what I am/am not allergic to. I've never been tested. But in the height of summer, my rhinitus becomes asthma and I am dependent on two pumps, as well as Flixonase, a decongestant, anti-allergy eyedrops, a daily anti-histamine and something else I now can't remember.

When I dumped all this lot down on the asthma nurse's desk a few summers ago and said I didn't think it could be right for me to take all these medications simultaneously, she looked at them and said, "Actually, that looks about right to me."

The thing is that it gets worse each year, and I'm not sure what else (if anything) can be added to the cocktail to relieve my symptoms.

Oh... one thing I *am* allergic to is echinacea!

Hi! I'm allergic to a LOT of stuff, from dust bunnies to fuzzy bunnies and beyond. I'm anaphylactic to food gums and resins, pollock, shellfish, and peanuts. I'd like to hear from other people who are allergic to food gums and resins (like xanthan gum, tara gum, etc.). How do you cope with it?

I am new to this grou. Have suffered from asthmas for about 7 years. Diagnosed at the age of 40. I suffer fro 4 to 8 weeks seasonally. It can be induced by hot humid days or frigid days. I have had bouts with it during a stressful time or at the end of a cold. No rhyme or reason. Don't have any prescription meds. I take Advil to shrink my inflammation and use Vicks Vapor Rub and Sudafed to keep my sinuses clear. Don't know if this is good or not. Any suggstions are welcome to help me ease the chest constrictions.

Hi, Well i don't actually have an allergy but I'm wheat intolerant. I am currently trying to loose 10 pounds at the same time as fitting my dietary requirements into my diet plan. It would be great to have any feedback from people in a similar situation or any advise at all would be fab! I do like the substitute food you can buy in the supermarkets but find it difficult to always stick to wheat free foods. :)

I've had allergies since I was a kid. Pretty much if it pollinates, I'm allergic to it, as well as dust mites, mold, etc. I'm definitely allergic to the carpet in my classroom at school. This has been a particularly rough year because of that. I joined SP back in March, but this is the first time I've visited this team page. I'm hoping to learn what other people have tried that has helped with the allergies.

Hi! Allergies since child to tree and grass pollens. Tested and treated in college for severe molds, chalk, cockleburr as well. During 1st pregnancy became allergic to melons, citrus. Tested 3 yrs ago, severe corn, tomato, formaldehyde, yeast, dust mites, strawberries, egg whites. Less severe, cat, dog, horse danders. Many more sensitivies. Great doctor lets me "challenge" my system by eating the foods I miss a couple times a year! Take 2 kinds of allergy meds with crisis med for emergencies. Had daily migraines until stopped eating the foods that had any kind of corn, yeast, or tomato in them. Huge improvement in quality of life!
Most allergy foods also restricted for GERD-God knows how to get the point across He wants me to avoid these foods! Love the great outdoors and being out more time everyday beginning every spring seems to help with the allergies. Great to be here!

Hello everyone! My name is Linda. Right now, I know I'm allergic to seven blades of grass (and I live in the suburbs!) I just recently took tests to see if I'm still allergic to shellfish. Boy I would love to have some lobster and shrimps! Right now I'm dealing with a tickle in my throat that is driving me nuts!! When the tickle flairs up, the coughing starts. It's so annoying! I have the usual allergies with runny eyes, sinus issues etc. If anyone has had this throat tickle, please tell me if you found any relief for it.

Hi, I'm Karen. I've been through allergy testing, took shots for two years until the doctor fled the state in the middle of the night, and am now suffering from the same seasonal allergies. The worst problem is I have food allergies, and this makes it almost painful to eat out or go to a party. I feel so guilty that I'm such a pain to eat with! I've been jabbed with the Epipen twice and have found out the problem is I'm now allergic to a certain strain green peppers, but don't know which! Anybody with food allergies out there? emoticon

Why are you trying to get down to 125 if you're 5'8" tall? That seems awfully thin for your height! I think you would be better off building up more muscle by exercising--you'd look think but be healthier and stronger! emoticon

Hi. I have seasonal allergies that last all year. LOL I don't know what exactly I'm allergic to. I wish I could have allergy testing done but I have no insurance and I know that would be expensive so for now I just rely on OTC meds which help some. I'm also allergic to a few meds. No foods that I'm aware of though or I wouldn't be this big. :)

Hello! My name's Chrissy and I'm from Devon, England. Just over a year ago my stomach problems (which had been building up and getting worse all my life) came to a point where I couldn't eat anymore. I went about 4 months without eating and got super skinny. Then they found out it was Gluten causing me to be so sick and I went on my gluten free diet and gradually I got better again. This diet however has been my downfall. I wanted to try all the special gluten free products and ended up eating all this cake that I never would have eaten before, and they PACK them with sugar. When I'm out very often the only gluten free thing I can find to eat is crisps, I never ate them before either! And now I've gone from skeleton girl to a blob. This is why I'm trying to diet healthily and still maintain my gluten freeness :P

Allergy people FTW :D xx

Hello, from a sunny but chilly Toronto. I have been an allergy sufferer (although mild) for years. My problem is seasonal allergies, and it mainly affects my eyes. They feel like two ton tessies most of the time and some days, they just want to nap the day away. Glad I can find a group with a common background. emoticon

Hi Everyone! So happy to have found this group. I'm getting my first allergy tests this Wed. and will be glad to finally know exactly what is affecting me so I can hopefully do something about it.
For about the past year I've had a problem with swelling in my throat and ears, the only way I know how to explain it.... Having problems with my skin and sinuses. Not sure if it is all allergies but Benadryl seems to really help.
Looking forward to getting to know others in the group!

Hi, my name is Donna , I live in Gulf Breeze, FL, and I have asthma. I just found out I am allergic to mold, dust, and all furry animals. This is bad since I have 3 cats. My doctor said to put them out side but this can't be done due to the fact that they are de clawed. I am taking allergy shots twice a week so that I can hopefully one day tolerate My pets without being miserable. I can't believe someone would even tell someone to get rid of their pets. They are part of the family. I would rather take the shots.

Hey- I have to say I was hoping there would be somebody like me here. My allergies are in FOODS. It helps to know there are more of us out there. Actually in this realm we have a weight management advantage. If you CANT eat cake because it has ingredients you are allergic too- there is no temptation! I've never had a weight problem but the food stuff is new in the last 3 years and I've had to cut out ALOT of foods. Let's just say weight management is not much of an issue anymore. I can't eat any corn or corn derivatives. That pretty much eliminates all processed foods, junk foods and most restaurants unless I research them ahead of time. The good news is that this way of eating really protects and enhances your health!!!!!!!!!! emoticon

I am having trouble breathing now that the pollen is in the air. I did not go to church Sunday because I can't breathe.

emoticon I am allergic to dust and pollen too. I wake up sneezeing every morning. I have an air filter in my bedroom and I do my best to keep the house dust free--It's impossible to keep it all out. I spend the first couple of hours in the morning just trying to get to breathing normal.

I am allergic to dust, pollen and other airborne allergens. As I said earlier I am allergic to my little kitty but I am willing to suffer because she is so adorable. I take a daily antihistamine.

Hi everyone-- I am very new here at the site and just wanted to say Hi. I live in Fl with my little furkid (who I am allergic too) among most things that grow outdoors. I do take antihistmines to keep everything under control.

I have had one food allergy (guar gum--the emulsifier in dairy products and some breads)for over 20 years, and in the last 3 to 5 years I have developed more. I have discovered that I react to soy lecithin and I suspect sulfites. I have gone completely natural-no processed foods unless it's a single ingredient product ie., tomatoes in tomatoe paste. It hasn't been that tough at all because I am rewarded by feeling sooooo much better and dropping 22 lbs in the last 2 1/2 months.

I am hoping to get support from SparkPeople as I maintain my new way of eating.

Hi! My name is Ali. I joined because I have been battling allergies all my life. I also have asthma. My allergies have been better until today! Hopefully by taking some meds, tomorrow I will feel better. Just wanted to introduce myself.
