Hi my name is Sandy and I have been a long time member of Sparkpeople. However I still struggle with boredom eating at night. I do great all day long and then after getting the kids to bed and finally sitting down I grab something. Last night it was a bag of doritos and 2 cookies which of course pushed me over my recommended calorie intake for the day. I pack my kids lunches and I always have little things like bags of chips and cookies to pack in the house. If I stay busy I don't think about eating. I think their is a buttom on my backside that says when I sit down I need to eat something.

My time to nibble/graze/overeat is mid afternoon. I just finished getting my masters degree and am now waiting for a full time job to open at a school. I have a lot of free time in the afternoon and instead of starting any of the projects that I want to do, I eat. After dinner can be bad too especially if my hubby isn't home and no one can see me eat. I am glad I have somewhere to come when I feel myself getting out of control.

Hi Everyone, I am so happy to be here with you. I am a 53 year old Grandma. Oct.2010 I had a motorcycle accident, my foot popped off of my leg. We have spent the past year and a half putting my foot back on my leg and keeping it on my leg. I did alot of laying on my back with my foot in the air. I have gained some weight to say the least. I am now walking and need to get this weight off of my ankle. I have been looking at several diets, I am 5ft 4in and started out weighing 179 on March 12,2012. Right now I weigh 172 on a 500 calorie diet. I'm not sure if this is the diet for me, but my Dr said I would loss fast. One question, how does everyone get those cute little status bars on your posts, I want one too. Maybe two questions, has anyone heard of the HCG diet?

This is just the forum that I need. I have just joined sparkpeople and am racking up the points just visiting everywhere today. I too am hoping if I am on here at night I will not eat. I am a morning person and full of motivation until about 3:00. By the end of the day I am so tired and stressed I just give in to cravings and boredom. I have to wake up early in the morning and exercise before work or I don't exercise at all. I've been trying to lose since January and have not lost one pound. These last two weeks I have worked out really hard, but no budge on the scale. Oh well...tomorrow is another day,.

What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?

Hi, My name is Donna. Hopefully by reading posts from the team I will find alternatives to eating from boredom. I have gotten much better at it at home. I have the most problems at work since my job is busy but boring. Most of my co-workers tend to snack at their desks which is a nightmare for me (smile).

Nothing to it but to do it........

I am a night eater- that is when I am most likely to be bored or sitting in front of the tv. Tonight I plan on eating a great and filling dinner and then have ONE healthy snack. That is my plan eachnnight. Last night it worked. I also brushed my teeth and then did not want anything after I had my snack. I look forward to reading the posts for ideas and suggestions to keep me from eating out of boredom.

It is MY turn!

my name is Fran and i just finished 6 peanut butter cookies why because they were in the cookie jar and Thought they were calling my name last night it was french bread i had arranged to have a snack in the evening that only made things worse i just kept eating and then beat my self up as i spend 80 to 90 minutes in the gym and doing things at home to build my fitness minutes. i found this site and hope to visit it in the evening instead of eating. will rearrange my time on Spark to the time i find my self wanting to eat as i have a 100 day challenge going to stop eating at the computer. i was given a computer for Christmas and want to keep crumbs out of the key board I am now on day 41 and messed up two days so that is a good thing for me since in the past it seemed i was always removing food crumbs from the key board and wiping up the computer table. cookies seem to be my down fall thanks for listening sometimes it just helps to put and see it in writing.

Hello All-
I to am guilty for eating food out of bordem. I tell myself before I do it what it is only going to make me feel worse afterwards and it helps most of the time. Then there are times when I can't keep away from grabbing something to satiate my hunger, my head takes over and says just eat it. =(

Hi my name is Kim. Health issues over the past couple of years have caused a decrease in activity & an increase in weight. I've decided that I can't wait for the health to change on it's own & that I have to be an active participant in the change. By changing my diet & working on increasing my activity level. I'm hoping to meet others that will support me (& I them) in their goals, as well as maybe getting together & walking.

I'm technically not a new member. I lost 20 lbs with SparkPeople in 2010. Sadly I gained most of that back, but I'm now ready to get back to losing weight. I cannot help but to eat when I'm bored. I do good at work, but the minute I get home, I can't help but to eat. I'm hoping to pick up some ideas from this team on how to stop this unhealthy habit. I look forward to meeting everybody and to help support and motivate others. Have a wonderful day! emoticon

Hey! I am Mariana and this group actually talks about me! Everyday I start with a healthy breakfast, plenty of water and a small snack, healthy lunch, more water and a snack, and then... then I go back home from work and eat: because I am back, because I am talking about my day, because I am close to the kitchen, because I am relaxing, because I am tired, because I am finally idle... I have a huge snack AND dinner, because my family is there and I like to eat with them, with no actual hungry, just because.

When I read the group description I was so happy that I'm not the only one. Sometimes I manage to make almost an entire week, but then the weekend comes, and I empty out my fridge. I'm hardly ever hungry, but I love the sensation of chewing, and the taste of food.

Hi all, i'm Amy :)

I'm new, and this is my perfect group! Haha. Emotional eating and just general bordem eating is my biggest downfall and it needs to stop. I am so happy I am not the only one who seems to have this struggle! xx

Hi girls emoticon emoticon You will not remember me (probably), but I am not actually new, new. I was here last year, and when I reached my goal (almost), I left emoticon . I am not proud of that, off course. I want back, I need you to give me another chance.
I was feeling so great, and I was shore that I learn everything and I that I can go alone. But that is not true.
I had a bad period last year (3 unsuccessfully IVF procedures) and I start to eat because I was so unhappy and feel so.............
Now, I hope that I learned lesson that I do not need to eat because I am nervous or unhappy or just because I am bored (and that was my reason most of the times).
I am here and ready to fight again with my weakness because I want to be healthy.
Hope that you girls will give me second chance emoticon

Thank god I found this group! I always plan my whole day with delicious meals, healthy snacks and some exercise. But when I'm alone at home and have nothing to do I start to look for something to eat - even though it's only oat flakes with yoghurt!

I hope that I can get some help in getting over these times here!

And if you're maybe wondering about some language mistakes - I'm from Germany, doing the sparkchallenge in Berlin. :-)

Just joined the team. It describes me to a tee! All day mindful of my eating, then when I get home from work or school eat up the whole house, not paying atention, just on and on-- i am a CNA work second shift, home at 11, then on my days "off" I go to nursing school at night till 10-

Hopefuly we can inspire and encourage each other in a good day. Glad to be aboard!\

Hi all!

My name is Kymberly and I am so happy to have found this team. I can stay focused during the day, no problem, but at night I can't seem to feel my tummy fast enough. What's the deal? And than of coarse once I am "overfull" I want to go to sleep! Terrible

Anyone have advice on overcoming this? ,

Hi,

My name is Mary. I joined SP last July but really didn't do much with it. I just started again last week and have been mostly good about using the trackers. I am taking baby steps this time because my personality is such that I go full force into something, then after a couple of weeks, I'm "bored" no pun intended!

I actually love fruits, vegetables and food that is good for you in general. However, they are usually my last choice, instead preferring to go with the high fat, low nutritional value food. I need to change my thinking and choices, because I "know" what is right, but I choose what is wrong.

I have been an emotional eater all my life. I eat when I'm happy, eat when I'm sad, eat when I'm bored. When I hear about all the latest weight loss programs I find myself wanting to grab onto the latest and greatest. Then I hear, "it helps curb your appetite." Therein lies the problem. My appetite is not my problem. I'm actually not hungry very often. Unfortunately, lack of hunger doesn't keep me from eating. I know people who eat out of boredom or emotion, but that is a once in while thing for them. I need to interact with people like me, who has made it a lifestyle. I hope to get to know you all better.

Thanks

This is SO me!!! I went looking for a group like this today be cause as I have started on my Spark journey..I find that breakfast and lunch are great!! Even a snack before supper is a good choice..then..supper and the evening and ....
Well..

My name is Carol and I am from rural Nova Scotia and love it here. We live on 5 acres out in the country with our son and 2 dogs, 3 cats and an aquarium of fish..my husband and I moved here 7 years ago from Ontario. This is home for me and his family is from here. We are very happy here..but enough of that.

I agree with Marilyn I wish I could sleep and not eat, but that is not the answer. The other evening I was going though some motivational pages and found one with great ideas for snacks!! However, I am sure they meant you have 1 or 2 not ALL in one evening!!
So I will work at it day by day or evening by evening and I am glad to have found this team!!

Hi, my name is Marilyn and I'm from WV. I'm most definately an emotional eater! Eat to celebrate, eat when I'm sad, and most of all eat when I'm bored. I can wake up in the mornings so motivated and do well all day long and then after dinner it's all down hill. Sometimes I think the only way to control it would be to be asleep but then I don't sleep well so that doesn't help and obviously *I* need to get *ME* under control! I am really hoping to find some ideas on this group of things that I can do. Staying busy seems to be the best solution so far.

Hello Everybody,
My name is Kelsey, I just started with Spark and am still getting used to everything. I really hope this will help me to loose weight. I have tried a lot of things and just have not stayed committed to this program. I'm hoping this amazing team will also help to keep me motivated! Eating at night is one of my biggest problems, I do well during the day than at night make treats for my roommates and then fall into the trap of eating the treats too.
I am turning 20 on thursday...yay, and sadly I'm the heaviest i have ever been I'm hoping my next birthday I will a completely different person, and continue on with a healthier life!
Thanks and hope to get some motivation!!

Hi, I'm Alecia. I'm married and have an almost 2 year old. Ive gained a lot of weight over the past 5 or 6 years and throughout my pregnancy. Right now my biggest problem is when my little boy goes to sleep, nap or bedtime all I want to do is eat. I do great all day and then when I have nothing to do, I turn to food. I'm hoping to find some motivation and hopefully get over my bad habit :-)

If you want some accountability, try joining the January challenge that MUSCLEBOUNDBABE set up under the Challenges Forum. It is not too late to join.

I'm on a challenge on another team right now or I would do this one. I have done 3 challenges since October and it really helped me to stay focused and lose weight especially during the holidays ( I lost a total of 8 lbs and over 11 inches during November and December with the San Antonio team.

Hi! I have always know that I ate when I was bored. I now realize a pattern. My fiance, whom I live with just started working nights, 5pm-3am. I noticed the first night of this shift, that I was in the fridge constantly. When he is home, I don't have this problem. Even when I am not hungry I will binge. I joined this team looking for support and advice! Help!

Hi, I'm new to this. I'm 26 years old, mother of two. My kids are 1year and 3 days apart. I got pregnant 3 months after I had birth, so I didn't have much time to work out. Then I got into that comfy stage with my husband (he weighs 180 lbs, can eat 10 meals aday, and gain NOTHING). I just wanted to eat like him. We got divorced, which made matters worse. And then got back together, which was just making my weight spiral down. I eat at night because I am bored. I am an insomniac. I finally went to the doctor and was put on sleep aids, but if I dont take them till 12am, then I still have to work on not eating after 7pm. Good Luck!!

Why don't you try taking a piece of fruit with you or having a baggie of nuts or even dry cereal in your purse when you are at work. I find this works pretty good and picks you up too.

I try to eat healthy daily and have good intentions but I always seem to make the wrong choices. For example today I had a healthy breakfast and salad for lunch, but I am bored at work so I reach for the cookies and candy at work. Then I get angry with myself. Can anyone offer some advice?

Hi I am like all of you I do pretty good while I am work. I take the things I should and that goes fine then when I walk in the door at home it all goes out the window. I work such crazy early hours that I go to bed early but in between coming home I can stuff myself senceless. I am not that hungry but just can't seem to stop myself. I have gotten rid of all the junk food in the house and diet sodas so that is better. But the getting away from the food temptation I haven't gotten down yet. So I am happy that I joined this team so maybe with your help I can change this habit. Being bored is a big part of my problem.

Hello StormyG here, 54 y/o divorced Caucasian female, live with my dog Mylie, (who has been a wonderful motivator to walk) & Taz, a beautiful 13 y/o black tabby male, and a beautiful (but bad) calico, Lizzy Love.
The Eating When Bored Team caught my eye, because that is what I do. If I get bored, mad, upset, happy, or whatever, the first thing I do is go to the fridge & I eat compulsively. The evening hours are the "witching hours" where I want to eat everything in site. I have just started an online class & want & need to spend time staying organized instead of feeding my face. (see my last blog)!
It is hard to admit that I eat what I do, but I know that the only way I can change is to be honest & accountable.
I need help, support, and encouragement but not shame. Thanks for letting me join the team.
I hope I can be of help to others as well.
Thanks, StormyG emoticon

Nycki...is your stomach calling as in growling? Because that would be true hunger and you'd need to eat. Maybe you need more protein, more healthy carbs or more calories over all. I'm not sure as I am not up on what are the healthiest dietary considerations for MS.

If it's really your head calling, saying your stomach wants something, then that's bored/emotional/distracted, whatever-you-want-to-call-it eating. If that's the case, then some of those ideas will help.

My experience has been it is really important to try and tell the difference between stomach hunger and head hunger. When I'm grazing at night (after good meals all day with snacks between) that's head hunger, not stomach hunger. Distracting myself, journaling/blogging what's really going on or reading other people's blogs has helped me to change that habit.

My name is Christina, and I am brand-new to the team. I joined because I think eating when I am bored is one of the main reasons I gained so much weight. I work from home, and being by myself, it's too easy to get bored with work and head into the kitchen for a snack. Also, late night eating kills me. I have done very well this first week with eating, but the absolute hardest is not eating past dinnertime. I have 80 pounds to lose, so this is going to be a long journey and I am on this team to get motivation and support for a long-term change in habits.

thanks for the info on the old post. I am such a night time muncher. I can go all day and then I get home and the sun goes down and it is like my stomach turns on. emoticon Even if I eat a good b-l-and d and have a healthy snack I still find that at that hour my stomach starts calling.
I will definitely check it out. I could use any ideas to try.
