Good afternoon

After a fun-filled, food-filled weekend, I'm back on track! Desserts is my downfall every time. Today is a new day. My elderly friend, Mary, called and asked me to pick up some prescriptions and bring it out to her. So i did that. Other than my walk this morning and that errand, I've been home all day.

Maree How fun in Hawaii, are you getting into the laid back Hawaii style? I just love the walking on the beach

Bess there are on the water people and in the water people. I have never had a wood burning stove, I am sure it takes a bit of skill. It is hard when you have a friend who is not as committed to making the planned workout date.

Kellie So glad that the Wedding was fun and filled with happiness. A little drama always adds to the stories.

Nell I read an article about people with dementia and how their senses work differently. The eyes can see, the ears can hear and the feet can walk but the information that the brain receives is totally different. My mom did same thing, she only knew those she saw very frequently. She totally forgot her granddaughters.

NancyAnne did you have un at the IU game?

Bea how did the weekend go with all the food opportunities.

Toni glad you got to Colorado and how beautiful.

Poindextra the trip to Monticello sounds really fun.

The Wonderful Son-in-Law has been running to help his cholesterol numbers. We went to a 10K run with him as the cheering section on Sunday. Those races always start about 7 am and it takes a bit of time to get there and parked. The last one was in downtown Phoenix; this one was out in a big desert park. A beautiful morning that started out in the 40ís and then went up to the mid 60ís, lovely sun and lots of huge cacti. He achieved his time goal which made him really happy. We go along because he is so hyped up after the run, we let him chatter on, drive him back to a restaurant to have breakfast. Another one next month.

The workers were supposed to be done on Friday. They are still here doing small stuff.

Good evening!

Potluck dinner today was good. I did really good until I looked at the dessert table. It tasted good. I'll watch it this week. I made a chicken and quinoa casserole. It was easy. It had chicken, quinoa, chicken broth, carrots, onions, celery and chia seeds.

Maree thank you for starting us, even while on a trip to Hawaii!

Iíve decided Iím not getting enough steps a day so I put my fitbit back on. My blood pressure went down when I stopped wearing. This time I turned off the notifications.

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Glorious Sunday. The wedding was spectacular. Even the older, Irish catholic and Italian catholic relatives that I thought would be upset by their unconventional plans loved everything about the day.

DH even made it, was social and stayed till the end. If you would have seen him Friday night you would have said no way is he making it out anywhere. He's even feeling a bit better today. The predisone seems have helped him turn the corner.

I danced, I sang, I made a speech (I'm so not a public speaker) I hugged. My heart was bursting with love yesterday. It was wonderful seeing my ex inlaws, all the aunts and cousins. I miss them.

The only blip was one of my sisters. She and her husband were to get my dad there and they didn't. They didn't look into parking, couldn't find a spot and went back home before I got there. Everybody else managed to look into parking ahead of time, even my cousin who has trouble getting anywhere by herself. I was so upset. My poor dad.

Other than that, it was a magical day. I couldn't have planned anything better for the two of them.

Hi folks,

I've been a little out of touch due to work and busy life, but all is well. I miss these chats when I don't get to them!

Nell, ditto for me that things went back to normal at your Mom's place. Thank God your son is on the ground there! Sounds like she does dress herself, but hust needs someone to hand her the clothing:). My Dad, while still of sound mind at 91, is unable/unwilling? to describe things accurately. I don't know if it's because he's male, old, ornery, or a combo of all 3:)! He was recently in a car accident and will say he's fine, and 5 seconds later say he's got some achiness that hasn't gone away yet. I try to tell him thats NOT "fine," but he doesn't seem to get it since he's still functional. Arrrgh. He's seeing a doctor for it, so that's good.

Hubby and I drove down to Charlottesville on Friday night. We spent yesterday eating the BEST bagel sandwiches at Bodo's, taking a nice long walk on the Monticello Trail from the Michie Tavern, checking out the visitor center at Monticello, and walking around the fields and wooded areas at Ash Lawn-Highland. Then, we stopped at Gearhart's Chocolates to check them out, and ended up buying a box of 6 very interesting flavors. The Southern restaurant where we wanted to eat dinner was booked, so we walked around the pedestrian mall to find a place to eat and ended up at The Nook, an old-timey city diner. That plus my treadmill walk in the morning racked up 20k steps for the day; since it was in 4 different chunks, it wasn't too much. That's the most I've walked in ages; it felt great. We want to plan another road trip to visit Monticello and eat at Michie Tavern with some friends, so didn't spring for the ticket this time.

I'm digesting my breakfast before getting my treadmill walk for today. Hubby will sleep in, so we'll check out and have lunch when he gets up, and then drive around Cville's residential areas on our way home.

That's it for me today. Maree, enjoy those beaches. Toni, enjoy the mountains. Kellie, enjoy the wedding!

Arrived in Colorado yesterday and are settled in. I love that we stay in the same place each time we come so it feels easier all around. Dinner with our son last night!

Hope this image comes up right, but this was the mountain last night. The yellow tree is just festive lighting.

Maree- Aloha, and I am impressed that you are still starting us out! Hawaii is on my bucket list so I'm jealous in a good way.

Nell- Happy birthday to Mom. We saw a similar decline in my grandma. When she asked me on the phone "Now WHO'S child is this?" I almost cried.

Bess- We were going to make a fire last night and forgot. We always hesitate because, while the last dog would lay down right next to the fire, this one becomes scarce and won't hang out with us near it. Sounds silly to gear fire-building around a dog, but we love him and he's more than a little spoiled.......

Speaking of, he seems to be healing from his surgery pretty well, despite having to wrap the wound to keep him from incessantly licking. There is still one scabbed spot in the incision, which is what I think he's licking with the binding off. But it could just be the sutures, which are coming out on Tuesday. Hoping that makes him more comfortable.

Have a blessed day, everyone! It's time to go make my boys some biscuits and gravy in my jammies. We're skipping church today to go to one of the last IU women's basketball games of the season. They are so much fun! Taking BJ. When Sam said "With all the loud lights and noises, do you think he'll be okay with it?" I answered "Pretty girls running up and down a court? Yeah. I think he'll be fine!"

Heart you, Maree - for starting us off - goodness - at what? 2 a.m.? You are a sweetie. Savor that island joy.

Nell - Happy Birthday to your mama! And your DGD. And I think you are SO wise to stretch out the DGD's birthday for another week. It doubles her fun and gives you a chance to really spend time with her. But we all knew you were one smart cookie.

Bea- that's what we are all figuring out - balancing social life and healthy eating

Donna - a sparkly clean house would be a top choice for me as a Valentine's Day gift! Obviously you love yourself just right

Kellie - you KNOW we are waiting to hear about TheWedding - just as soon as you've rested up. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Toni - arrived yet? Enjoy that snow! I know you're wrapped in all kinds of hugs.

shoutouts to all the rest of the team - wishing you a glorious joy-filled Sunday.

Yesterday I did a lot of art practice - and could see improvement. I'll do a little more today, but I have some reading I want to do also. I waited all morning for a friend to show up but she didn't come till late in the afternoon. There was just time for a short brisk walk ... very brisk ... n the frosty afternoon and I skipped my yoga altogether. I won't do that again. We built a fire in the stove last night. This is very dry poplar that was cut down 14 months ago to build the studio. It's the sweetest firewood there is. Burns hot and fast but without the residue of a pine fire. When I cooked on a wood burning stove I always liked to use poplar if I could get it.
Oh la. That seems like centuries ago.

Off to start the day!

Believe it
Do it
Become it

Good morning. It's cold here, I envy you Hawaii!

Today Mom is 93 years old, and my youngest DGD is 6. Mom doesn't remember any of her grandchildren or great grandchildren, even though there are photos all around her. She knows me, my brother, and one of my sons because she sees us all the time, but away from daily contact and she forgets, never to remember again. Little Anoushka had her party yesterday, I didn't go. I'll see her next weekend when I can actually spend time and talk to the family without a house full of people I don't know.

Today is the Daytona 500! The start of a brand new season.

Nell
Reston, Virginia (DC suburbs)

No one ever got up in the morning wishing she'd eaten more the night before.
