JULES - I really like Dress Barn. They are not too expensive and sometimes have great deals. They have a Plus side of the store and the dresses there are typically very similar to the 'regular' dresses (a spaghetti strap dress may be replaced with thicker straps to hold the girls up, etc.)

I also like Lane Bryant and JC Penneys!

Hey, so I'm new here, so I guess I'll introduce myself...
My name is Danica. I'm 22. Two years ago, I weighed in the 170s and was dealing with a nasty breakup and decided I would use the gym as a boyfriend replacer. I meticulously watched my diet and worked out like a maniac and lost 20 or 25 pounds. I've been yo yoing ever since in the 145 /155 range but desperately need to get in shape before I leave for basic training for the US Coast Guard. I know I'll be forced to get into shape there, but it would be easier for me to work on it while still home so it isn't too much of a shock to me. I know I have the willpower, I just need reminders and motivation to remember my goals.
Best of luck to all you guys!

@Julesjet: Welcome! I found this site helped me with getting an idea as to how much of what I'm eating is worth it and its motivating to interact with REAL people with weight-loss struggles and achievements... set-backs and all! Good luck!

@brunettepink: I'm gonna make an effort to chitchat more :D

First off, I don't pay more than $80 for a nice dress. $40 for a sun dress. If I'm looking for a nice cocktail dress I go to Torrid. I'm 28 so still fall into that "young and trendy" category ( I figured I can shop there until I'm 35 or so lol ). Lane Bryant dresses aren't usually nice enough for when I'm looking for dresses, and the only other store that seems to carry ones I like is Dillard's, which can be pricey ($100+). If I'm looking for a sun dress, it's Torrid first, then Lane Bryant. JCP sun dresses always look like they are put together by blind men (their nice dresses are OK, just haven't' found one I dug yet). Sun dreses have horrible patterns and color schemes in the plus sizes. Bleh.
Walmart also carries ok sun dresses, but I have yet to see a nice dress there I liked.

For the Ladies:

Girls, do you have a favorite brand or store for dresses(at reasonable prices)? For my nice dresses I typically go to JCPenney, but often times the dresses that look good on my still overweight self are the top end prices... And I love a good sale price, so sometimes I am able to get a really great deal there, but not lately...

Where do you shop?

Hi everyone! I have been on SP for more than four and a half years, been a part of a BL challenge team for a while, but I felt like I also wanted to join a team with people my age. So, here I am!

I am a 23 year old girl from Norway, and I currently live in Kathmandu, Nepal where I intern for the Royal Norwegian Embassy. Such a wonderful opportunity and I love it here.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi! I'm new to Sparkpeople. I'm 25 years old and I'd already lost 13 lbs on my own just by portion control and walking. But it was a VERY slow loss of weight. I've been on a plateau of -13 for about three weeks, so I decided to do something different. I'd heard about this website through a documentary on people in GA who have lost weight and kept it off. Several people counted this website as one of the reasons they kept at it. I've taken a look around and I am very optimistic. Thanks in advance for all the motivation I'll be taking from y'all!

Hi everyone,
Well,it's Friday night. I'm sitting at home bored. Thought I start back with my SP groups. I can't remember the last time I've actually posted to one. I need to start doing this on a regular basis. Maybe that will help in staying motivated and tracking my progress. Hope everyone had a good week. Enjoy the weekend! I plan on getting up early tomorrow for a walk/jog around the neighborhood. Perfect weather for it. I love Fall! Ciao for now!

I wish it would blow up with everyone just chatting about how they are doing. On that note, I have bronchitis for the second time in a month. GRRRRRRR! Thus my diet has to be imaculate because I'm not supposed to increase my heart rate for the next week.

Try not to think of a weekend as a free-for-all. I completely believe in a cheat meal, it is footbal season so Sunday afternoon is my time for food and margaritas lol. Also don't think well I ate bad at lunch so there is no point that is like dropping your phone and beating it with a sledge hammer. Pick your cheat meal and make it just that a meal.

This is day 2 on here, it seems positive for me so far and instead of making excuses I'm making sure to get on here in the evening to check in and track. I feel more responsible when I can see what I'm eating and how much exercise I'm "really" doing! Lets see how the weekend goes! emoticon

Well this is my third time this year to try and diet. When it becomes the weekend I always mess up and just never get back. I am on day 2 of my diet with going into the weekend. So I'm nervous I really don't know how to handle the weekends with never being home. Does anyone have any advice on how to prepare my food intake on the weekends?

I'm not too sure where to introduce myself, so I'll do it here- my name is Adrianna, I'm 24 and the proud mom of a 4 year old little boy named Issac. I decided to start losing weight about a year ago, for my health, energy level, and I kind of, just wasn't comfortable or happy with myself, even though I had been the same size for so long. I only recently started to get serious, and work out every weekday before work. Through the year I have lost about 40 lbs so far? I haven't been this healthy, probably ever, and I haven't weighed this much since before middle school. I've always been around 220-230. I decided to join spark for a little more motivation and support. But I'm super excited to lose the rest of that weight!

Hey Toni I'm Hollye, I'm 20 yrs old and I too am looking to lose 40-50 pounds. I need motivation and to be held accountable, I am wanting to make tomorrow (September 3rd) my beginning because I cannot stand to look in the mirror any more! I wouldnt mind having a buddy to share with because I am too embarrassed to talk to my skinny friends about losing weight because they do not understand how it feels to be my size. I'd definitely enjoy having someone to talk to about my journey :)

I know how you feel. You can do it! I find it helpful if you find yourself a treat that you can have while he eats his dessert. Fruit never feels like much of a treat. Find a yummy smoothie or protein shake that you can have. Frozen bananas blended taste somewhat like froyo. Or even a local ice cream that you can do. Just something where you don't feel like you are compromising.

I actually just suffered the opposite of this problem. I ended my engagement in March and dealt with that sadness through a glass bottle. Needless to say I gained a ton of wait and gained a gluten allergy to boot lol. I am back on track now and am doing great!

You can do it! If you want to be my weight loss buddy I love to message. Send me one!

I am a victim of the relationship weight gain... When I met my boyfriend I was 130 pounds and within a couple months I was up to 185 (I almost weighed as much as him). When I decided to lose weight I asked him to just give me support and help me when I'm tempted. For example he's big on desserts so of course whenever he wanted to eat ice cream I would too... When he was craving ice cream I would eat a piece of fruit and when he saw that I was tempted he would tell me no and remind me of all my goals.

It's hard but you have to stick with it and it'll be fun because he'll be part of your weight lose. Even though I'm sure he always tells you... you look beautiful no matter what size you are, it's about how you feel. I didn't feel confident when I gained all that weight. I felt unattractive and I was not happy. When I lost those first 10 pounds I was so proud of myself and the fact that he was able to celebrate with me and know that he had a part in my success.

Welcome back KAYLA_L25! It's great that you're enjoying increased overall health, and that weight loss is coming along with that. Just out of curiosity, what other "great products" do you mean? I'd love to hear about them!

Hi everyone I am new to the group. I was a member a long time ago after I had my second child, but nothing was really working at that point. I am now back and losing weight!! I have also added some great products that have greatly improved not only my weight loss, but also my overall health. I am happier and healthier than I have been in about 5 years since my first child was born. I am working on getting my pre baby body back, or as close as I can get anyway :)

Hi everybody! I am also new here! I have 6 months before I go back to my home country and would love to lose 20kg by then! I am just confused because I read so much stuff and dont know what to believe anymore! It says on the site I should eat 1200-1550 each day. I also burn around 900 calories from Monday to Friday because I exercise in the morning and evening. So if I eat between 1300 and 1400 cal per day will I be albe to reach this goal. Some people say that if you exercise a lot and do not eat enough cal you will also not lose weight, but if I eat more than if feels like it is kind of defeating the purpose! Can someone help me with that as I am very confused!

Hi Ashley, you are capable of achieving what you want. Start by making one different decision about one action than you made yesterday. You could write down what that was, so you can look back and see the evidence that you can do things differently if you want, you can be different if you want. Many hugs and I believe in you.

Hello, My name is Ashley.
I have been trying to lose weight for years with no luck, I think it has more to do with me not trying as hard as I should than anything else. I am a nurse who works two jobs. I also am getting married soon. I really need to get my health back to what is used to be. My fiance and I want to have children in the near future and I don't want to try and lose this weight and baby weight. I need to be healthy for myself as well. I am a half pack a day smoker and every time I try to quit I have people say "Why even try when you know you'll start back up again." I could really use some motivation.

Maybe you could focus on strength building. More muscle burns more calories. Even stretching burns calories. You could try yoga, pilates, or the barre method. And you can rest between exercises to keep your heart rate in the normal range. Yogic breathing actually helps you control your heart rate. Good luck finding a solution, I am sure there is something out there that you can safely do.

I am worthy, as I am right now.

Hello!

Technically, I've already introduced myself in the main forum, but this looks like a friendly group of people, so I hope you don't mind me introducing myself here, too!

My name is Sylvia, and I'm a full-time student with a part-time job, and an all-the-time responsibility to keep my home pleasant and my older dog healthy. So, basically, I have no free time.

I joined SP so that I could learn how to take better care of myself, and lose the unhealthy amount of weight I've put on over the last two years. I'm really feeling motivated, just by clicking around the site, and I'm looking forward to meeting new people who are in the same boat!

Starting a new chapter in your life, like moving somewhere or getting a new job may seem too stressful to do anything else alongside it, but I think you have the right idea with aiming to have your health goals coincide with your move to Australia. There's something about taking a big step like that that makes everything seem fresh and exciting and you can definitely harness that feeling and direct towards your goal. Not to mention that Australia is known for its natural beauty and adventure tourism and you will enjoy your time there so much more when you are healthy enough to experience it all!

Good on you for making a goal and being so positive! Keep it up, we're rooting for you!

Hey Allie, welcome to SparkPeople. Don't worry about eating too much as long as what you eat a lot of is good :) Try to cut out processed foods and white starches and see how you do :)

Hi everyone, I'm not new to SP, but I'm new to this group and am restarting on here. I decided that it's way past time to get serious about my weight. I'm leaving for Australia at the beginning of December to go to school and as it is a new chapter in my life, might as well get everything under control.

Welcome KAWANA! Good Luck on your life changing journey! Sparkpeople is really great and I think if you follow what they are asking you to do closely you will succeed. I started back in March and have lost 18lbs and 17.75 inches off my body. I am very happy with the results and people are amazed that I can still eat every single food I want to, including cake and I can still lose weight and inches. I think the big point though is that while you can eat anything you want in the right quantities, you start to make much better choices for yourself simply because you feel so much better. I still love my chocolate and eat it every once in a while, same thing with a soda, but when it comes down to it, it is all about choices, do you want the cake or do you want that chicken breast with rice and broccoli? Or are you willing to eat less of both and have your cake and eat it too?
Its crazy because you really start to realize that this is how people should live and eat. I am amazed everyday about how much food I used to eat and it was way too much! My old coworker is now on sparkpeople and she too is realizing this. Even though you dont eat that much the combination of food matters too.
Keep on Sparking!

Hi eveyone, My name is Kawana. I just turned 30 last month. I am a single mother of 2 and I work full time outside the home. I joined Spark People in March and fell off my comittment because I began being busy with processing for new employment and new arrangements for my kids as summer vacation for them was nearing. During that time (I obviously already wanted to lose some weight and get back in shape), I had gained an additional 10 pounds topping me out at 230lbs! Yikes. I'm a pretty tall lady (5'9"), and most people don't beleive I weight 230 and claim i wear it well. But looking in my closet at dresses that I absolutley love, but hate the way I look in them, time to get back to doing something about this. So since last Monday I have lost six pounds. I was on Slimfast for the first week but that doesn't work for me. I lost some pounds but I had to work really hard to stay focused. Instead I have opted to chose high protein foods and lots of fruits, veggies and water and have noticed I am experiencing way more satiety than I was on Slim Fast.

I recently joined sparkpeople and this team, In fact I am still on my first week!! I have been doing rather well with everything. I track my food, I am always in my calorie intake (usually at the bottom) and I do workout every night (but tonight, too pooped out).

The main problem I am having right now is cardio, the sparkpeople videos for cardio as well as zumba, p90x, insanity I have tried them all, but due a condition I have called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) I can never get through these workouts!!! For those who haven't heard of this condition pretty much, my heartbeat is too fast which causes me to faint, or near faint. So exercise cardio in particular is so frustrating!!! I even tried the 10-minute work outs and I still couldn't make it through the whole ten minutes without nearing fainting!!! What I have been doing, is if it seems to be getting too intense I just march in place or if I can take it jog in place. I realize that another factor for this is that I am out of shape

But do any of you have a condition similar to this??? I feel all alone in this sometimes... And does anyone have workouts that you think I could try and actually finish??? emoticon

Hello Everyone,

I'm not new to SP but I did just restart SP recently. I got home from an 11 month tour in Afghanistan and in the 5 months I've been back home I've FULLY enjoyed all the food possible and put back on all the weight I worked so hard to lose while overseas.

I'm in the Army National Guard so for the most part I live a typical life. This fall I will be a full time student but I am still in the military. I feel that it is important that I live up to the standard. Not just because I have too but because I want too. I did make a commitment to my country and my goal is to drop back down to a healthy weight and get my body back into the best physical shape as possible. This is a goal I want to keep even after I am fully out of the military because there is nothing I dislike more than going shopping and constantly having to buy one size bigger to accommodate for my bad habits.
