@STARDUSTD, I feel ya. The first 10 melted away, but since then my weight hasn’t changed for 3 weeks even though my lifelong set point is 20 lbs lower.

Signing up for an event helps keep me motivated like a charity walk or an 800m sea swim. Then its something to train for. Unfortunately, the charity walks have gotten expensive so I have to look for something else to sign up for.

I'm feeling increasingly frustrated with the number on the scale.
I remind myself that consistency is the key. I REFUSE to give up and accept this weight, especially when I know that I successfully maintained a lower weight for years.

It helps me to stay on track by asking myself how bad I want to be and feel like in those skinny jeans! Summer is coming and I want to be able to look and feel sexy like the woman I was meant to be! I know I'm not alone in this feeling!

See the scale move is a HUGE motivator for me.

But a motivator for me to get working out is my love for audio books. I can walk and "read"

Keeping my WHY front and center. Gaining Optimal health is definitely more important to me than an impulse bite or drink of something that will deter me from my goals.
So important to keep your WHY in front of you.

Several things motivate me:

- reaching my "other goals" here on SP (I love to check the boxes at the end of the day)
- challenges (I'm doing a Jan fitness minutes)
- weight going down
- fitting in clothes I couldn't fit anymore
- the idea of wearing cute clothes
- the feeling after I finished a workout (even though most workouts still seem to killing me while I'm doing them)

Jenny, you've definitely found the right idea there.

For me it was "embrace the suck."

In other words, doing this was going to suck. There would be days, weeks, or even months when it would "suck." I'd just have to do it anyways.

Learning to "embrace the suck" helped me get past that "I have no motivation to go do this" phase until it finally got to the point where it started to become enjoyable again.

Desperately sad & low self esteem - want to get out of this self-pity situation. Thatís what motivates me.
I read somewhere itís not the motivation but the determination that keeps you going in the long run. You can run out of motivation after a few weeks you start, but if youíre determined, no matter how unmotivated you feel, you still go on.

Itís something you have to do, not want to do. Iím so fat that it affects not only my health, but my life. Iíve slowly become more withdrawn & depressed (not really noticing it before, because Iím in denial, rejecting to hear anything about my weight problem.) But in truth, Iím getting to the point where I start the hate myself, and slowly giving up in achieving anything in life. Getting old & never believe Iíd find someone who would love me, at least I donít myself. I need to change to have the courage & self esteem again, at least I wonít feel inferior because Iím fat.

I'm motivated by my success at losing weight at all right now, even with the limited amount and types of exercise I can do. Knowing how hard I have to work for modest success keeps me feeling motivated when I have food temptations and cravings, because I know one weekend off track could be enough to erase a month of hard work!!

Honestly, everything on this site is motivating! I love tracking and reading about other people's success and reading the articles and going through the workout videos. There are so many resources here. I also have a friend who recently decided she wanted to make some changes in her lifestyle to lose weight, and it's always motivating to have people working alongside you on the journey. Have a great day everyone =)

This month? It's a 30 day pushup challenge app. I'm on day 8 and doing almost twice as many pushups as I was on my first day.

I have been keeping to my habits but feeling pretty MEH about it...
then this monday I was out with the family all day, swimming with the kids and my mom and running around my cousin's campgrounds.
And when we got home in the evening? I wasn't all that tired.

In the past, I would've been absolutely shattered and probably sat down at some point and made excuses not to get up and get back in the pool again.

About a month ago, I took my kids into the doctors so they could get their physicals for camp. After each of them weighed, I asked the nurse if I could check my weight. Well low and behold I had gained like 10 lbs +, I was 201. My jaw hit the floor and I was like no this is not right. I couldn't believe I had let myself go that much. This is when I finally decided that enough was enough and I had to do something about it. (My fraternal side of the family had diabetes and high blood pressure, along with other health issues) Overall I'm in okay health. That is what has given me the motivation to start pushing myself to lose up to 60 lbs - 70 lbs. I have currently as of today lost 4 lbs. My husband asked what he could do to help me and I told him to push me as well. My husband loves me and it hurts him to push me, but it's not a matter of want but a matter of I need him to.

Passing a milestone I'd been reaching toward since 2014.

I'm finally Overweight.

Not morbidly obese.
Not somewhat obese.
Not obese.
Just, overweight.

Overweight is my goal category, which I never thought I'd reach, and I have been here for like two weeks. It feels awesome.

Stepping back and taking a peek at the long view.
I do not lose weight most weeks, so I have to focus on feeling good and my clothes fitting well and other NSVs.

BUT, when I DO experience a loss, I like to take a look at how it averages out and adds up over time.
All those weeks without losses sting a lot less when I see I HAVE kept up an average of 1.6lbs gone per week, when looking at the past 53 weeks (same with those weeks when I have gains).

Hey Everybody!

I just joined Sparkpeople again. Haven't been here since 2012!!! Pretty much learning to use the website again. I just looked at the pictures I posted on my profile in 2012 and those are great motivation!! I had another son since and I'm back at 200. So here we go again!! Hugs

Also what keeps me motivated, is being in school now, I can exercise and keep it off and help others since I'm going into Human Services field.

To LizSpringsteen: Wow, that is an amazing journey you've taken!!! I'm so happy you're so close to your goal :) Just reading this is very motivating for me! I've been with Sparkpeople for 6 years now, I started it in June 2010, but haven't been able to keep my motivation up. I've yo-yo-ed with my weight for years, and am just re-starting my journey! Knowing that other people are working towards to same goals I am and reaching them makes me believe that I can also reach my goals!
Congrats and Good luck!

I guess this is as good as any topic to post in! First off, I'm new to this team. I just left the 30 somethings with 50-99 lbs to lose team. A couple years ago, I was in the 30 somethings with 100+ pounds to lose team! As you can tell by those 2 sentences, I have lost over 120 lbs! THAT KEEPS ME MOTIVATED!!!! I started at 320 lbs in 2012 (my highest weight ever). Now I am so close to my goal weight of 160 lbs (maintaining that while getting rid of excess body fat/building lean muscle). WHY GIVE UP NOW?! So if you need motivation, look no further! YOUR LIFE IS WORTH IT!!! I used to be on over 11 different medications, 4 of which were for depression/bipolar! NOW I AM MED-FREE!!!! I take natural supplements and eye drops (because I developed glaucoma, which runs in my family) and that is all! The doctors are in awe that I am no longer depressed/bipolar!!! They asked me how I did it. I told them about sparkpeople.com!!! My doctor now recommends Sparkpeople to her patients who are overweight/obese. If that isn't something to keep you motivated...wow.

These are the things that motivate me: My sweet husband, my loving children, my goofy dog, and the results I see when I step on the scale or put on the jeans I like.

Seeing results is what helps me get motivated. Right now it is tough mentally to keep my fitness and diet goals going consistently because of this. I'm hopeful that with our teams help I can keep it consistent. emoticon

My running goals motivate me. I know that if I get this weight off, my running will improve. I've ran 5ks, 10ks, and even a couple half marathons. I want to get better and faster :) emoticon

What keep me motivated is knowing that this time I am making a lifestyle change that will stick to me for the rest of my life.

Knowing I have others that I motivate.

Wanting to go on a "shopping spree" at the mall, which is my closet!! I have TONS of clothing that I can no longer fit due to the weight gain and I want to get it in again

setting (small/big) goals and achieving them, then making new (small/big) goals and doing everything in my power to achieve them. regardless of how long it takes to meet them...the work itself motivates me..

writing in my journal, where i can read the past entries and specifically see the progress and see what i'm strugling with, too and then educating myself on how to gradually overcome the struggles..

also, i find joining challenges on this site is really helpful for me.. i don't want to let myself down so i stay on track.

but the biggest motivation remains the final goal - OPTIMAL HEALTH.

Photos keep me motivated. Having a calendar where i check off each day when I eat on plan and workout, I have motivational quotes and photos on my bedroom door and on my vision board...also working with a personal trainer keeps me going!

What motivates me is this: anything worth doing takes hard work. ... I think about the analogy of the farmer every morning without fail she gets up early and puts in the hard work, she doesn't grumble because she knows that if she wants a good harvest she needs to put in the work. She is dedicated day after day after day.

I refuse to buy into the myth of getting what I want cheap and easy. It takes tenacity. It takes persistence. Good old fashioned hard work that our grandparents told us about. But that people no longer believe in.

I want these to be the things I will teach my chuldren, the best way is to be that example.

Other motivating factors:

Fitting back into my smaller clothes that are really fashionable and I spent good money on

Wanting to be an active elderly person someday, not hunched over

Getting fit and people knowing me that way and this just being a "fat phase"

Im sure that I have more things that motivate me, but I keep coming back to the farmer. Every day I visualize myself at my goal and how my day would be. That's a huge part of getting there for me.

What keeps me motivated? The justification to buy new clothes that look even better on me.

And the challenges have been helping me out, too recently. They help me keep on track.

Now that I've been in the challenge for several weeks, I'm finding that the resulting results are keeping me motivated. I can't remember the last time I was working to lose weight and actually got a measurable, sustainable, weight loss. Daily weigh ins have been HUGE - averaging each week has shown that despite occasional bad days, the trend is downward and steady. If I continued to follow the traditional "weigh in once a week" thing, I'd have quite before now thinking I wasn't going anywhere, when the reality was quite different.

I joined a local Biggest Loser competition (based on percentage lost of goal) with a group from a local moto-related forum. Finding that I'm in it with people I actually KNOW, plus the fact that weekly posts are required, AND engaging that competitive side...it's proving to be a great motivator!
