@FANCYQTR I would love to try a homemade diet, but I am working at an unpaid internship right now and don't have the money for it. I have two more kinds of food I'm going to try this week.

I'm so glad to hear that Stormy and Tom-Tom are doing well! I hope that Stormy has a good remainder of his life-- it sounds like he's nice and spoiled.

Karen, I just went through the same thing with Siobhan. We coddled her and loved her, until it was obvious there was no recovery. That was actually in the contract we signed when we bought her, that we would never allow her to suffer no matter how hard it would be for us. We knew it was inevitable as she failed, one day there was no question that it was time. She demanded extra love in her last months, we gladly gave it to her. She knew more than we did.

Some of you may remember that I posted a few weeks back that my cat Stormy had been diagnosed with Lymphoma in his chest (a mass 1/2 the size of his heart) and in his lymph nodes in his legs. The vet said she didn't think he had much time (1 to 4 weeks).
Well more than a month has gone by and Stormy is doing good. He's eating well most days, drinking water or broth good too. Most days he has at least a few minutes when he wants to play very actively. He washes himself, and is very affectionate. He still loves to watch birds and squirrels. We've been spoiling him with his favorite wet foods and treats.
I've been giving him these CBD cat treats that I bought online. I started that about 5 days after his diagnosis. I'm thinking that this has really helped him. I hope so because I'm not ready to loose him. But when the time comes when his life is not good we will take him to the vet and they will help him cross the rainbow bridge.

There has been 2 cats at the gym where my husband and I work out. Tom-Tom a tabby and a black one whose name I have never known. The last 3 or 4 times we have gone, only the black cat has greeted us. Fearing the worse I asked about Tom-Tom.

Well you know Patsy that works evening shift, well she has always had a soft place for Tom-Tom and I guess he felt the same. About a week ago when she went to leave Tom-Tom jumped in her car. When they got home Tom-Tom walked up to the front door to be let in. When she went to leave for work the next day Tom-Tom made if clear he wasn't getting off the couch.

So Tom-Tom that has lived on the porch at the gym, now sleeps on the couch. Patsy said except that he won't use a litter box, and ask to go outside, only to want to be let right back in, you would never know he hadn't always been a house cat.

Much better ending then I was expecting.

Good Morning. Trying to post a picture, but not working. My grandson, 10, called, what you doing. Trying to get a lump out of the bed. How hard can that be. I had taken Fancy off the bed to make it. She had jumped right back on the bed and gone under the blanket, just her tail stuck out. Sent him a picture of the lump.

Yesterday I was able to place the grave marker on Siobhan's grave. The ground was frozen, I'll have to go out when it thaws and settle it down properly. At least it is marked. She is out there with her former friends now.

Diana, have you tried a home made diet for her? There is a group on Facebook that is raw feeding for IBD cats. I don't know if that would help or not.

I am going to have to figure out how to get Orzo to eat, too, but not for the reasons you do or even them on the raw feeding group. He is getting more and more picky. Today he wouldn't eat any of what I gave him this morning. He had the food for indoor cats and he doesn't like that at all, even if it is turkey.

Well, Cookie was taking her daily prenisone with a pill pocket and she really seemed to like those. Except last Sunday or Monday she started to turn her nose up at the pill pockets. What a pill she is! So now I am crushing the pill and mixing it into a tablespoon of wet food. I can't get her too much wet food because she'll throw up, like she did last night. But without the prednisone, she throws up several times per day. I also have a backup anti-nausea pill that I can give her, but it's not a permanent thing, so I can't give it daily as it can be bad for them. Anyways, I gave her that tonight too, so hopefully she won't throw up for the next couple of days. I am going through the wet food like no one's business. I think I have spent $200 on food this month buying new hypoallergenic wet and dry food. I am waiting for two other kinds of hypoallergenic food from Chewy to get here so I can if she'll eat that.

I don't remember what it was under, but I think there was something on funny things the cats did. Today I heard Orzo yowling rather quietly and looked over to see what he was doing. I was watching a show on TV called Animals Unscripted and Orzo was watching it, too. I have never seen him watch anything on TV.

Unfortunately, after he watched that he went to the crate and looked for Cassie. She has been gone for 3 months and he is still missing her. It made me cry, too, so we cuddled together missing our Cassie.

Allison, I don't do good with crowds, if I think there might be one I won't go. I went to Sams club once there was a crowd so never went to a Costcos. Someone asked about me and crowds. I told them I was fine in town here, the population is 2500. They asked me how bad it bothered me Out here I think it is on almost everyone's bucket list to go to the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo. I told them I lived 50 mile from Houston and my daughter dragged to the Livestock show once in 30 years. and then it was on a weekday morning before the show, amusement park, and rodeo got started.

That is great about Costco! I am scared to go in there because of how high the shelving is. I am always afraid something is going to come tumbling down and land on me. I suppose that's silly. It can be quite loud and deafening for me in there too, unfortunately. I only go sometimes, once in a blue moon with a friend who is a member. Time of day helps a lot with my noise issues.

Neither Medicare nor our secondary insurance covers hearing aids or glasses. Thank goodness for Costco! We took the old hearing aids in yesterday, fully expecting to have to buy new ones, but the guy replaced some parts and they are working again! And there was no charge. Gotta love Costco!

I don't know what our Medicare Select covers this year (they have lowered coverage dramatically on some things, like glasses or contacts), but last year they paid $1500. I don't know if that covers the hearing aids only or if it is them plus the doctor. Fortunately I don't need them. I need the coverage they had on the glasses, though.. I can't afford to get new lenses, even.

Orzo decided it was time to eat at 4 this morning after I hadn't had much sleep. I told him he had to wait until I got up, 4 o'clock was no time to be waking people up. It took a while, but he finally either went back to sleep or went and cleaned up what he had in there.

They are expensive. Originally, mine cost over $1000 but since then the price has dropped to around $800. I don't actually pay a cent for them, as they are covered by Medi-Cal now that my hearing is worse. I did have to pay the first time though, my hearing wasn't bad enough to warrant coverage. Even though I needed them!

My husband's hearing aids stopped working, so today we head off to Costco to get new ones. They are 6 years old (hard to believe it's been that long), they don't last forever. Which is too bad, they are really expensive.

There is a noise ordinance where I live. Police fail to respond, property management doesn't care. Not much I can do about it.

I can sleep in tomorrow, however bad it gets tonight. I discovered online that my town has given children the ENTIRE week off to celebrate President's Day. I think the parents of these children are nasty people. It makes things worse when kids have bad parents.

ON the plus side, I still have a wonderful cat. I am going to watch the special called "Cat Tales" on PBS tonight at 9 pm.

I think they have had a noise ordinance around here since before I was in high school, but it isn't really enforced anymore. Kind of like the fireworks. For many years it has been illegal to shoot fireworks or even use sparklers or glow worms, but they shoot them off like crazy from the beginning of June until a week after July 4, then again for a couple days around New Years.

Allison, I am sorry that they are so inconsiderate where you are. That is really terrible.

Every where I've lived you there was a noise ordinance and the volume had to be below a certain limit. I lived in one neighborhood were the police would patrol the neighbor hood at 9:45 and remind people to quite down, guess they got a lot of calls. And I lived in the county in TX

Do you have quiet hours? Our county has quiet hours between 11pm and 6am. Any noise between those hours and we can call the police. Unless the noise is made by children, fair housing laws give kids a pass.

If my neighbors would just actually SLEEP at night and not play music or TV or have a party, I would get up at 6 am every morning. I was awake most of the night, it got louder at 4 am and at 5 am I turned on my TV (which I can't hear but I can hear them!) I got up at either 7 or 7:30. I can't function without enough sleep. It was so loud and painful to my ears even with ear plugs on Sunday night (yes, Sunday night!) I felt like I was retaliating. I think the only reason for this kind of behavior must be drugs. I wear ear plugs at night and they barely help. I wear them mainly to protect my ears from further damage, as my disease is causing damage to the cilia in the cochlea of my ear. They don't seem to block the constant night noise.

I had the cats' teeth checked at their last checkups. They need to be cleaned but otherwise they are okay. I want to get their teeth cleaned but it's such a chore. I will check into how much it costs and see how it works to get it done.

So I am now officially feeding the cats two different foods. Cookie is eating the old prescription diet (Hill's I/D diet) and Tang and Felix are eating Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Green Pea and Chicken. I will see what the vet says when she gets in this week. It might be tomorrow or Wednesday before I hear. I am happy the boys will eat a grain free diet as it helps their weight, and I'm just happy that Cookie is eating something.

I can't remember not getting up early. Bed time was 8P and so we got up early, then when I got married we lived on the farm and you started the day feeding chickens at 4:30A and went to bed with the sun. Somehow I never changed. I'm retired now, but my body says you get up early

Why are you both getting up so early? I am awake early from the NOISE (music) generated by my nasty neighbors.

It isn't light out and around here I don't walk in the dark, I love the trees and they are one reason I can breath better, but they do hid what's out there but when I lived in TX and could see everything around me a 3 mile walk started at 4:30A. Didn't have street lights in TX and don't have them here.

MaryAlice, Orzo use to only eat a teaspoon full twice a day. Now he eats more than that after all the sauce is gone and he has left it for a while, but the dry is hard. He is eating a little more than a can a day now and a little tiny bit of his dry. Today he is eating more often than usual. Don't let him know he has gained some weight back, though, or he won't eat anything for a few days.

I hope this comes through. Rosie and Vida have never been snuggly, it was always Vida and Siobhan. 5 weeks after Siobhan's death they are regrouping as sisters. I have never seen them sleep together before.

I've never had a problem with picky eaters till they got older then they wanted the dry for mature cats, but can't fault them for that. I don't think I have every had a cat that wanted much wet cat food. There was one that likes a spoonful about every other day. And I did have one that would eat what I gave her, but was more interested if I changed brands every couple of weeks

Diana, with Orzo I have been asked often if his teeth are okay (which they need work on). Have you checked to see if their teeth are in good shape? Also some problem could be if the dry food is harder than what they are use to. Orzo could only handle the Blue Mature because it is slightly softer than other brands. Well, he also was okay with Canidae, but the only others that were soft enough made him sick in other ways (he kept missing the litter box I soft stools). They don't seem softer than anything else, but he could eat them and chew them so he didn't throw everything up after. Just an idea if the new dry food is harder to chew.

Cats are picky eaters.

I am surprised the Ancient Egyptians didn't write this as graffiti in hieroglyphic somewhere on an ancient temple or pyramid. I think maybe it's hard to get them to eat canned and dried food because it goes against their nature--they don't have to catch it first, which I guess they then have the instinct to eat it.

Very true, Nell.

Well Tang and Felix are eating the chicken and/or turkey limited ingredient food, but I think Cookie is avoiding it. I will throw out the food in their bowls tonight and try the chicken food again to see if they'll eat it. I know they're really hungry and I just gave them a little bit of the limited ingredient wet food, which they love. I find it strange that they will eat both the venison and the duck wet food, but not the dry food. I hope to hear back from the vet tomorrow. I'm running out of different foods to try on them.

Isn't it strange that cats will kill and eat mice, but are picky about prepared food.

They turned their noses up to the duck and green pea food too, but I am now trying turkey and garbanzo bean food and they seem to like that. I will keep feeding it to them tonight and tomorrow to see if they keep eating it before I throw away the bag. I have two other kinds of food that I bought to try too. I think they just don't like strong, gamy food. I am glad to have (hopefully) found some dry food they will eat. I will talk to the vet next week to see what she thinks about the turkey and garbanzo bean food.

I like that law. It would sure help some people nowadays that are either having to get rid of their pets or move out. Just read about a lady who was told she had to get rid of her dog that she has had for over a year even though her lease agreement said she could have a dog there. The apartments were sold and the new owner will not honor the lease. With that law the new owner couldn't do that.

I have been trying to find out costs for dentals for Orzo. I emailed a "low income" veterinary clinic. They start at $100 over what the vet yesterday quoted after looking at Orzo's teeth. How can those places say they are for low income? The Dumb Friends clinic that said nothing could be done started at just $50 less and claimed to charge half as much. The recommended place charged someone $300 several years ago. I think the only lower costs are the office calls, which are getting rather high where I take him now.

There have only been 2 times I didn't get my animal from a pound, dog or car. I'm 66 and only 3 years I can remember not having a cat. One was when a lady found a kitten, was going to take it to the pound. but I took it first and the second was when I moved into a rental there was up on blocks and there was a cat living under the house. I asked around and was told the cat had lived there over year and had kittens there at least once. I started taking care of her, took her to the vet to make sure there wouldn't be any ore kittens. Vet said she was healthy and fixed the kitten problem.

Then the landlord said she had a strict no pets rule. I was living in FLA and knew there was a law that said if an animal had lived on your property a year and no one claimed it, it was yours. So she owned me for vet bills and caring for the cat. That shut her up. Yes the law was written when there was open range cattle, but it was still on the books and if it would help the kitty, I was using it.
