Yikes!! Sorry to hear about the shirt fiasco! Makes me kinda glad I didn't add to the poor guy's aggravation by not holding him to having him be in his office so I could pick up my packet on the Friday before since I wasn't going to be available to go to the Expo to pick up the packets there.... I just never signed up...

Don't remember if I posted my time in the Virtual Races part of Spark People (I never can seem to easily find that place, without actually doing a Websearch!) but I had run/walked the 5K that morning or later that day, just in my neighborhood, and it was a neat day to walk, weather-wise.

The half and full marathon went off without any hitches and I think those runners were very pleased from what I could see. The 5k was a different story though. A friend and I went to the expo the day before to pick up our packets. They said they had run out of 5K shirts and to check at the tent in the morning before the race to pick them up. Before the race we were told that the shirts were still being printed and would be available after the race......nope, then we were told that they just didn't get done and to send an email to find out how to get them later. We finally were able to get them the Thursday after the race. Then they messed up our route and because of that there were no official times or awards (not that I was worried about that but others definitely were). Unless you were using some kind of GPS, no one knew how far they had run. We do know that some of the front people actually did closer (or over) to 4 miles. Mine only ended up being 2.8 miles. They are saving the prize money and awards to add to the race next year and those of us entered this year are supposed to be able to sign up for half price next year.

Other than these mess ups with the 5K, it was a great day. The threat of rain held off to just a few sprinkles that felt really good while running. After the race, they had lots of free food and a coffee tent. That coffee was absolutely the perfect thing after the race and to sip while watching the longer race finishers come in. Along with the shirts for signing up, everyone also got finisher shirts. The 5K shirts were plain cotton t-shirts, but the others were very nice tech shirts.

I definitely plan on going again next year.

How'd the PF work out for everyone this year?

I haven't checked the website yet - anyone know when next year's race will be? I want to see how it stacks up with other commitments I have in that time frame...

I am volunteering in the Runner's Village near the finish line! Maybe I'll see some of you there! And even if I don't see you, or see you but don't recognize you, know that I'm cheering you on!

So has anyone signed up for the 5K? I have been in a pickle about that because the only day to pick up registration packets was on Saturday the 8th - which - uh... happens to be a High Day - Yom Kippur, fasting from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. And so that was the only day to pick up the packets. Plus they weren't offering refunds - which was the other thing It thought that if I couldn't arrange a way to get the packet, I'd just get my money later - well, no later, nothing. I hadn't signed up as a result. But I just now got an email from guy at the Sports Commission that is sponsoring or putting on the PFM and he said if I came by the office he'd have the packet available for me. (One of his comments makes me think he'd not too happy, like I couldn't pin him down exactly on what time was "late afternoon" after he wrote his first note.).

So anyway, now that bugger is out of my head, I can actually consider registering (before the prices go up again!). Need to get some more walking done though to practice...

Bre, did you sign up? I like your idea of meeting up after the race is over. I know someone doing the HM and would like to meet them at the finish line, but then will be free.

I think I'm gonna sign up for the 5K. Gives me a goal and something to look forward to.
Maybe for those of us who do it we can meet afterwards for a celebratory drink or lunch.
Can't wait!

I was really looking forward to the marathon portion, but I just found out that I will be out of town that weekend. I wish you all well in your training efforts!

Wow, I seriously want to do this!! The Fun Walk and the Mayor's 5K Challenge I could easily do - especially as a walker. The trick is do I want to challenge myself to actually go for the 5K as a runner. Or something more serious. Can we sign up for the easy stuff first and "upgrade" to a more serious walk as we get closer to time?? That's going to be a busy busy month anyway.

Someone asked about teams? or training? I'm up in the north part of Wichita, and if/when I go to the Y, it's usually the North Y. Send me private email and we can exchange phone or text message or email address whatever.

This sounds like a good plan. I won't be able to "run" but I would like to participate. It would be nice to be able to do 5K races again.

Is anyone training together? Or are we all working on our own?

Carrie.

I am in!!! I started training this morning and realized that I cannot run for more than 5 minutes at a 3.8, so this is going to be a long life altering experience. I tried to participate last year, and my step-father was admitted to the icu at Galichia Heart Hospital and we almost lost him. So I was unable to participate. I am looking forward to completing this major goal for me.

My church is affected by the half and full marathon route, and I'm in charge of brainstorming ways our church could help out! So I'll be volunteering in one way or another on race day!

It seems like it's time to start up some discussions, training plans, support, and Q & As about the up coming events. Who's in? Who is thinking about it? Who is going to be a support team for someone in a race?
