Geesh, I wonder where the afternoon goes sometimes. Did get in a walk before dinner. Gray skies, breeze, perfect temperature. Some gardening, cleaning, vigor workout, and yoga before 11. Then too much on line.

So no walk today because it's thunderstorming but I think I'll get out my desk peddler and use that after I'm done working :)

I'm committed to doing something daily so long as I feel up to it.

Tothefuture, I think you meant walking is the best exercise.

I hope it's not a fluke, too!

Today my life was about another canyon walk this time shorter, and my short vigor workout, but also kitchen cleaning, some reading, and a fair amount of gardening. I ran out of light and will need to get out there early to try spreading some freeway daisy dried branches over a kind of meridian outside my place. It has cacti and some succulents now, plus a ton of weeds. It actually belongs to the city but they don't tend it. If one of the agaves sends up a flower stem- is that the word I want?_ that threatens the power lines, the utility comes and cuts it, but not low enough so that you can't see the dead stem sticking up. In any case, I'm hoping these flowers will start coming in there as they do in a section of my yard that I now want to use for potted flowers and food. The plants do die each summer, so I'll have to take responsibility for tearing them out each year. Or offer the guys next door some money to have their gardener do it, if I'm off traveling, which I plan to do in a year or year and a half.

In an effort to teach my daughter to ride without training wheels, we've been walking with her while she bikes and on Sunday, I took her out instead of my husband.

And I didn't have any pain following! Which is unprecedented during this pregnancy. So, I tested out going on a walk on Monday too and again, no pain afterwards!

So, going to try to do at least a walk a day going forward which should help me stay healthy and keep me in the right range for weight gain this pregnancy! Wish me luck that this wasn't just a fluke :)

We had a massive dust storm on Sunday and it will take me weeks to get everything clean. Swept bathroom and mopped 3 to 4 times and still finding dust.
Good luck with the garden. Our lemon tree has fruit first time since we bought the place nearly 5 years ago.

Today I went to explore a canyon trail that I didn’t know existed near my house. I expected the walk to take about 30 minutes but it ended up being 90! As I was nearing my house I ran into my neighbor who offered to do some cutting up of lumber and cutting out a huge tree root I found in a planter in my garden. I will see what happens to either the loquat or lemon tree or the bougainvillea. I will be a little bummed if I lose the lemon. The others actually have foliage that gets in the way of the path and shade parts that I would not mind having sun on, so there could be advantages. It was a busy morning and I conked after brunch, then had a long catch-up conversation with a friend who has been visiting her sister for over two weeks. Now lazing around, hearing party conversation from a neighbor down the way who I’m pretty sure it’s just having family over. It is a holiday after all.

I hope the steelwool works and you get no more critters.

Hello
Started the day doing 60 minutes on the peddler. I try and do 120 minutes each day of cardio. Some days part of my 120 might be a walk too. Some days I go over the 120. I take one rest day and still do 30 minutes on the peddler. My strength training is when I go shopping and push my granny cart shopping, part of that is up hill. I did good yesterday staying on program. I took off one of the pounds i put on with the Oreos I ate Saturday. I will have the other two off soon. I have been having cheat days but will not do that anymore it wrecks all my hard work.

My problem is that since I know about the placebo effect, there are many things I don't believe in anymore and so can't get the benefit of the effect. I try things that other people swear by and they have almost no effect on me. I almost don't want people to claim that X will do this, that, and the other thing. Don't make me promises! I often think. "You can't know what I've already done or what will happen for me.' I went to a Zen center for 7 years, did hundreds of hours of meditation and never had the experiences that some others report after just a few weeks. I do still meditate, but it's more because I'm afraid to quit. I used to leave a five-day intensive, and be yelling at the traffic when I was just a few blocks away. Other people would say they felt relaxed for days afterwards. I didn't even feel that relaxed when I was there, not what I mean by relaxation. I could feel relaxed for a bit, but behind it, there is often unease, like something could set me off. (Done years of therapy, too.) I got mad in the grocery store yesterday because there was a man touching every single package of cherries, picking them up, moving them over so he could pick up more underneath, standing there for several minutes and not choosing anything and leaving!. I finally said, "Sir, please don't touch all the packages!" He said, "Where is the sign telling me not to?" I just left but stewed about it. So a lot of my life between meals is about trying to offset that kind of stuff. I would trade half my weight loss to have things like that not bother me so much.

Interestingly, I am being careful about the coronavirus, and want others to be, but I am not actually scared about it. Some things that bother other people don't really bug me because I am an odds person. For example, I have a visceral reaction at first during earthquakes, but then I actually like them. For all the focus on the news of destruction, in the U.S. an extremely small percentage of people die or are even injured in earthquakes, but the news can make them seem terrible. Now, the destruction IS terrible, and I feel for people for that. And I'm aware that the BIG ONE is going to make all the others seem like a sneeze, but I don't think about it that much. That reminds me, I just saw Costco has emergency kits.

I did some gardening today, including some digging and moving dirt. Boy, did I feel that in my abs. Also plugged up hole into attic with steel wool and set two traps. Didn't catch anything last night, so today I taped the traps to a long piece of lumber from my yard and slid it closer to where I can hear them on some nights. I'm hoping it will smell like the outdoors to them. The outdoors plus peanut butter. Come and get it!

Lovely

I don't plan on going anywhere today. I did my peddler for 30 minutes only today as it is my rest day. I just need to get up and do it a little each day while watching the news. I have my meals and snack planned for the day. I have a bottle of peach tea for a treat.

Collected my new spectacles yesterday which I am happy with. This meant going to busy part of shopping area and I was surprised at how busy it was. Only one car space.
We have bad weather forecast so I needed to make sure nothing loose.
Not sure why much more study has not been done on the placebo effect. Everyone knows it exists but just how do you turn it on.
Enjoy your weekend

TT, thanks, it's already pretty much gone most of the time, but I get some scratchiness at times, No other symptoms, knock on wood. I gargle alternately with a mixture of lemon juice and salt water, then hydrogen peroxide. Both have been associated with fending off viruses. I also take an herbal supplement called Wellness which I swear helped me many times in my teaching career. Even if it's the placebo effect, I'll take it.

My life today was a lot about fretting about how to get a rat problem in my attic taken care of. I dislike calling work people, anticipating the difficulties ahead, as there always has been. I guess I think somehow that I'm going to figure out something that will make things go right this time, but they never do. I don't know if the stove is actually hot, but it always has been before when I got close, and trying to arrange things is like walking up to a stove. I have reps from two different companies coming tomorrow afternoon.

My life was also about some TED talks on various topics and some reading. AND I got several clumps of papyrus that have been sucking the water from my orange tree since I moved in in 2002. I thought they would need a professional to get them out because I thought their roots went very deep. I started fiddling around one of them and saw that there was almost like a little cavern under one of them and that if I dug around more, I could yank the whole clump out. Boy, did that feel great! Then I kept at it until they were all out. I was almost ready to stuff them in the trash (it doesn't come until for another week), but I decided to post the plants on the neighborhood social media site to see if someone wants them. I want to have mostly natives in my yard except for the fruit trees. If someone doesn't want them, I hope they'll dry out this week and into the bin they'll go.

Hi ladies. I see you have a sore throat. Since we are home, it's a good time to build our immune system, the old fashion way. My mom used to give me garlic and now I eat mince garlic by itself when I feel a cold or something coming on. My daughter now takes on that method. Hope your sore throat does not get worse.

I Pledge to forgive myself for the past & keep going no matter how many times I fall. I have the strength and self discipline from the Grace of God & I will give my challenges to the Lord. I WILL HAVE A FRESH START EVERY DAY!!

That would be correct we do move around the space. We are fortunate in my area very few cases so I think risk is minimum. Only one member works and she organizes people in line for testing. I will raise this point.

But don’t you move around while you dance going into other people’s air space repeatedly? Just trying to see how others are interpreting things.

Still nursing my sore throat. It had gone away completely Saturday. No other symptoms. I am in my car about a mile from my house to see the sunset. I hope that is considered quarantining. I prepared some paper docs for my taxes with carefully washed hands, then wearing mask, ironed all of them before putting in envelope. I asked my accountant if she still wanted me to drop them off through mail slot in her door as others have been doing or wait. Probably better not to have an intermediary mailman handle them, too. She said she has been letting envelopes sit a few days before tackling them. I will run them over early tomorrow.

Did not get to second unpleasant task today. Will try again tomorrow.

A friend moved away and hates it where she is but it’s a small town and the whole county has a low rate of infection. She had been toying with the idea of coming back which I had told her ages ago she should plan to do, but not now. We have protesters who want a full reopening now. I heard about armed groups in other cities out ready to defend store owners defying orders. I guess people are going to die unnecessarily one way or another.

I was wearing a mask everywhere I went, too, and had sanitizer in the car I used every time I came back. But I did pass more people. It just is still a risk, as cloth masks, even if both people wear them, are not 100% effective. But even if we don't go out, we have to get stuff, and if we don't go, someone will bring it and they can pass stuff on. I know I won't just go camp in the wilderness!

I wore my mask on the train and had hand sanitizer on my belt. There were only two people in the car coming and going so I was not crowed. I am not riding the bus right now.

Today, my life will be a lot about continuing to use my preventative tactics, mostly rest, read, listen to some meditative or philosophical videos, Spark, and do some written communication with people I might otherwise talk to. It’s overcast now but I’ll probably go out on my deck to get some sunshine later. I did a practice shopping session on Costco’s home delivery site just to see where everything was; I didn’t check to see if somehow my shopping cart got saved; I hope it was, but if not, so be it. This is all going to end up costing me more than I would normally spend on groceries because I go from place to place normally looking for sales and discounts. Most of those places have no shop and deliver options. I’m making some best guesses about the difference and subtracting it from my stimulus money. I am saving some money on gas, but I had sometimes been using a monthly senior transit pass, so not quite as much, but I am not complaining. I have more than enough to cover simple monthly expenses. Very grateful.

Kathryn, please be very careful. I went to two stores last weekend and now I have a sore throat. I hadn't been out for weeks and I have gone to no other public places and have been super careful with my diet, but still picked up something. Only time will tell if it will get worse and is C19. I fought off something back in March but never had myself tested. It was so mild that I never suspected it was coronavirus. I'm lucky there is no one in the house to expose to it. I had just decided to have my maid come back next week. I was going to leave the house and have her wear a mask and run the whole house fan while she was here , but it would not be fair to her to come to the house now. I will use some of the stimulus money to pay her anyway. I am doing plenty to fight this though I am also not assuming the worst and getting scared, just being careful.

Sweet potato will definitely grow but the seed companies are working to make all seeds and plants infertile to stop farmers reusing their own. This pushes up cost to us and to farmers! It may well lead to world famine. If you can get a vine maybe the result would be better. We have sweet potato growing but they are not nice so we have reduced the vine area. They were growing when we bought the property. If you like radish they are great to grow might only take 6 weeks. I like the idea of growing to eat, help the environment!
Good for you carrying those groceries, well done. I have an old injury and carrying is hard so I have a granny trolley not sure what you call them two wheels, metal frame fabric bag. I use mine all the time. However it can be heavy to lift like stairs. When I use public transport it makes me think about how much I need something.
Going to the shops later with my car
Hope everyone has a nice week Hugs

Our caretaker who drives me to the supermarket broke her leg. I thought long and hard about it and decided to use public transportation. I rode the light tail train to over near the supermarket and got a big heavy basket of healthy groceries and pushed my way back to the train. When I got off the train pushed it up the hill and I did alright. I guess my legs are stronger due to using the peddler.

These potatoes grew eyes faster than any I have had. I guess they weren't treated with anti-growth, but I'll find out. Worth the time to experiment, though I'd like to have a few plants that "work." Potatoes are pretty cheap but it would still be a kick to just dig some up when needed. Do you know if it's possible to do the same with sweet potatoes? I know you can grow an vine from one easily, but I don't know if it will bear a crop.

Bad news on the rat situation. They have moved the insulation around unbelievably. I refuse to completely replace it, but I will have to pay someone to clean up some of it, redistribute, and seal the entrances. Probably $500-1,000. I cannot trust the last company. Who can seal them out? It's very frustrating. I lived here for years before it was an issue, but now it's every few years.

Well, unfortunately, I have a sore throat today. I am taking an herbal supplement and gargling alternately with h. peroxide and lemon+salt water, a combination that I swear helped ward off the flu many times when I was teaching. In fact, it did back in March. I am trying not to kick myself for going into a store last weekend. But it's too early to tell if it's a real problem. Had a telephone conversation with someone; meant not to talk much, but you know how it is! Will only write until it goes away. Laying low. Otherwise, feel fine. Fingers crossed. Which would I rather have, C19 or rat problem? Hmmm... Anyone else old enough to remember Jack Benny? "I'm thinking about it..."

Like you I am slow eating my potato and they get eyes. I always plant them but have mixed success. I have many years ago grown them and got a good crop but now I just plant them and hope for the best. Bought some lettuce and rocket seedling I've had a lot of success with self sown tomato plants.
We did hear of the earthquake in Australia on the 24hour news. They are desperate for anything now the virus has slowed. I also think they are trying to stay positive and an earthquake that did little news is good.
Good wishes for you tax

6.5! That is BIG! I looked it up and saw it was centered in a remote part of Nevada. Otherwise, I think we'd have heard about it, and you would have REALLY felt it. If it had happened in populated areas... emoticon

I slept later than usual, and was glad of it, but skipped my walk. Will take it later, as the temperature is still very pleasant. Went to noon meditation and am catching up on Spark.

Pretty sure I have all necessary docs for my tax accountant, though she will be gone until Monday. Will take a drive to her office to drop off the paper ones. I don't know how to use the scanning feature on my printer. Her office is near a beach with a boardwalk I'd like to take a walk on. I'll probably go super early Monday because I don't trust that people will wear masks and keep distance. They didn't last Sunday.

I'm determined to go up into my attic and look for evidence of rats. I will have to hire someone to clean up after them and reseal eaves and I want not to be guessing about what they are seeing. It is very discouraging. I've spend around $4000 on rat and insulation issues while I've owned my house, most of it in the last two years. I won't spend long up there, though.

Also determined to repot SOMETHING today and to pot some potato cuttings I made before I cooked a batch of potatoes yesterday. I read online that you can grow them right from the ones you buy if they get those little roots before you cook them. There are specialty ones just for growing, but they are more expensive. People report varying results for both kinds. Might as well try but I also need to cook my potatoes earlier!

I did not sleep well last night and was awake at 4am to feel my bed shaking. Hubby was awake too. It was an earthquake in Nev. 6.5 m. I don't know if that is why I could not sleep. I wish I could take naps.
Did good on my eating yesterday and will aim for a day like that today. I am hoping for good numbers on the scale. I feel it in my clothes already. Will have to shop for clothes in my to small clothes.

I once found $100 in a staff lounge at my school. It was a small lounge and only a fraction of the staff ever went in there; I knew it wasn't mine. I took it to the office and suggested they put out a notice to staff and invite them to say if they were missing any cash and to identify the denominations. I was disappointed to hear that there was a teacher who tried to pretend that it was his and just guessed at what bills were found. (It was a hundred dollar bill.) He would have been willing to take it by guessing even though he knew it wasn't his. It turned out to belong to one of the adult instructional aides who would have really been heartsick when she discovered that she had lost it. If it had been out in front of the school, I probably would have kept it because with 2200 students and possible parents as well as staff going by, it would have been almost impossible to say whose it might have been.

With their hand in a bucket of chicken! That's hilarious.

There are other things going on, but the news sources are stuck with pleasing the human brain's bias for the dramatic and personal by emphasizing all the individual COVID19 effect in the developed world. But this is true all the time. I'd like to see a news section that shows the disease and death from overeating poor quality food every single day, but nobody would watch because it's too painful. There are other topics where human activity is causing even greater problems, but they are too overwhelming, too. Ok, I'm ruining the cocktail party so I'll shut up. (Learning about those other topics are part of what my life is about between meals, but I am careful who to talk about them with.)

This morning I tried to take the back way to that trail from yesterday and didn't find the right entrance, so it messed up my morning schedule because my walk took twice as long. I did get my 15 minutes of vigor workout in, too. I ended up skipping my yoga so that I could talk with a friend who is visiting her sister in central California. The yoga I have to do on an empty stomach, so I am planning it for before dinner. Now I'm dawdling getting back to other tasks that are unpleasant to contemplate. Well, I guess I need to start setting my timer for 15 minutes or so and tackle some of them.

I lost momentum on potting plants when my helper left, and didn't put everything away. Oh, well. He got a fair amount done, though I found myself thinking that I would have worked faster. But he did do some things I find very tedious, and I am glad as much is done as is. I can see that things are better, but I also very much see the problems and can feel discouraged at times. But I will try again tomorrow.

On my walk today I found a trail that goes into a canyon I've never explored in the nearly 18 years I've lived in my neighborhood. NO ONE on it and it had some nice hills, which is what I try to include a few of these days. A good find.

Also had a fun Zoom conversation with three alumnae from my university. It was fun, though we mostly talked about COVID stuff. I know there used to be more to life! But one of them does computer work for scientists associated with it now, and the other volunteers for a chapter of a charity organization that has seen an increase in requests for help, so it's especially relevant for them.

I am getting in more exercise and keeping the kitchen cleaned up more, but I sometimes don't know what else I do. The whole day can go by and I can point to only a couple of things. Oh I did attend a 2-hour online information-and-practice session for a class in self-directed therapy. It was interesting but I am cautious these days. There are so many promises made but even the supposedly successful therapies rarely explain what the real improvements were. Sometimes they are very small. I'm toying with several different options right now. I want to be realistic about my time commitment and budget.

Tomorrow at least some of my life will be about directing a high school boy to do some of the garden work that takes less judgment so that I can do stuff that does. He is not coming until 10:30. I'll get more clear what I want from him and write down the tasks so that we can keep plenty of distance. I hope to move some potting materials onto my wooden deck, which is much higher than the surrounding garden. (I am on the edge of a hill that slopes down to a canyon.) The deck wraps around on the south and west in the shape of an L so we can be on different sides. The temperature is supposed to be pleasant. It will probably be just a couple of hours.

My aspiration is to grow some herbs/food at some point. I've done it before. It's not a terrible amount of work but it will take some doing to get the parts of the garden with enough sun in shape to do it. I'm lucky to be in SoCal with a long growing season. Right now, I have burgeoning tomato plant that actually wintered over and a couple of volunteer squash plants though I'm not sure which kind because I composted more than one kind of seed. I had one last year but the flowers never developed into fruit. I think it came up too close to the root of a tree that reaches underground pretty far, so it lost the battle for the water I gave. I also want to propagate some succulents that I tentatively plan to use somehow for Christmas gifts this year. Lastly, I will get a mint plant tomorrow from a neighbor. That I'll keep in a pot because it is an invasive that I don't need at this point. But I'd like some mint tea!

I had a nice visit with my friend at Subway. He has lost a lot of weight like me and we shared that info one time. Now we talk about ups and down we are doing on our diets. He gives me one more reason to get out and walk.

I got a nice Mother's day message from my Granddaughter Oliva, my middle sons daughter. I guess my son is not mad at me to much. Lol

I grow plants, succulents mostly in pots. I planted herbs as I love these fresh. The parsley is going great. We have some raised garden beds and we planted radish, tomato beans and corn. We have sweet potato but it isn't any good.
My daughter bought me some toilet rolls as a joke and a bag of potting mix and made me nice meal for Mothers day.
My cleaning mainly consists of moving stuff, not getting rid of much

I got one big plastic container of stuff from my storage emptied out and the items cleaned. Some were just moved for now into what will be a gardening staging area. I am not one to think I can handle each item only once when I am decluttering/organizing. I would be frozen if I put that kind of pressure on myself.

I'd love to hear about your garden a bit more. Is it mostly greenery? Do you grow flowers or food or both? What kind of projects are you working on? But I also understand you may not be able to spend much time online.

Today my life will be about a little more cleaning, some cooking, looking into doing some meditation courses I'm interested in on partial scholarships, some tax stuff, and time fillers.

I woke up earlier today so amended my May goal to be on my feet until 10 to allow for me to sit for a bit outside while I washed off items that need to go in recycling and on the street to see if anyone wants them. I was surprised to see that all the stuff I left out, even though some of it was really junky, disappeared over two days. I am hoping it wasn't just someone who didn't like the stuff there and took it all to throw it out. I have a bunch of items that are meant for the garden and most of them are in cruddy shape. I keep imagining that I will do what it takes to make them presentable but I feel so deflated often when I see all the stuff out there that I hardly know how to start. I'm experimenting with cleaning up a few and seeing if someone takes them. Thinking someone else might use them helps me be wiling to let them go, though I also saw a few things that I will be fine with putting in the trash if they are still there tomorrow morning. My organizer said a couple of times, "Gone is gone." I didn't get what she said until I noticed in walking through the yard that having it be more cleared out looked and felt really good. Instead of so often having a twinge of anxiety looking at the yard, it feels pleasant. I realize I want more of that.

So my life between meals today will be about Spark, some more decluttering- though not too much; I need to reward myself with some "fritter time" while I build the habit-, a 15-minute vigor session, and reading/videos on Eastern philosophy. I stumbled on a scientist's video yesterday that seems close to some of the principles of the category I study. It's bizarre stuff and to hear a scientist talk about it was really interesting. Many of the people in his field of science think he's kind of nuts. I'll look into that a little more. I can do only a little at a time because I really have to try to let it sink in.

Why wouldn't you be getting it?

Third day of staying on my feet from the time I get up until 10. Washed a car and wiped the windows of the other one. Cars sure get dirtier when you aren't driving the dust off them. Went off and on to an all-day (11 am to 6 p,) African dance lessons event. Kept getting distracted, but got in well over an hour of movement between all the bouts. I also missed the reminder of a Shakespeare reading event that also happened today, the second one in a row I've missed. Drat! I really like reading Shakespeare aloud with others.

I hope you get your check soon you have such good plans on how to spend it.

I have as much chance of getting it as I do winning the lottery so I bought a ticket for the three big lotteries. I want to get my husband an electric wheelchair.

I decided not to even wipe down the string of lights but just pick them up using a Kleenex and hang the whole string from one nail and let it just sit there for a couple of weeks. There’s nothing that says I have to put it in storage soon and the virus willl die off if it’s actually even there in the first place.

So my life between meals today was also about friendship and handling finances. I had a long conversation with someone from my philosophy group. She says this quarantine has made her realize she’s pretty much done with the group which I can understand. She much younger than many of the people, but also feels she has learned what she can. I also had a talk with my tax accountant who is actually somebody that I used to know years ago from a yoga center. I have not gotten my stimulus check because I actually owed a few hundred dollars last year on my taxes and had not filed this year so the government needed my permission to let the money be direct deposited into my checking account. It took a couple of tries online to fill out the paperwork correctly, but it’s done now. We’ll see how long it takes to get in my account.

People get distracted. I hope that is all that is the issue.

May is no devices and no chair sitting before 10 am unless devices are background noise or for exercise. Walked this am, did laundry and did kitchen stuff, plus FaceTime. Between meals I watched a silly movie, did some meditative activities and napped. Also got a free neighborhood giveaway of reindeer lantern string lights. They are out on floor of deck after I sprayed them with bleach mixture. Will hand wipe tomorrow.

Oolala i am glad yesterday was a peaceful day for you. I hope today is too

83 today with winds of 3 miles an hour. I did my 30 minutes of weights in sessions of five minutes. It went really easily and plan to do it Monday in ten minute sessions. My goal is to do it all in one 30 minute session. I had not been doing very much strength training when I was doing it before. Since our shut down I am doing more to get stronger and healthier. I am eating better too. Eating more fruits and veggies.

First time shopping in weeks. I went to a few different places, washing my car in between so it took a few hours. It took awhile putting away that much food. Some bottled mineral water is still in a box because I just don't have room in cabinets! More time online, mostly Spark, though also an hour online guided meditation. I picked some of the ripe loquats from my tree, breaking off the short branches they're on. I'm "on the runway" on the decluttering. I also listened to an interview about a program run by a retired tech entrepreneur who now spends his time helping poor people learn how to manage their money better so they have a chance not to be in poverty in old age. For whatever reason, I was not bothered by a lot of the kind of self-critical thoughts I often have. It felt like a peaceful day.

Our caretaker first thing this morning took me to the supermarket. I only needed a few things but they were important. One thing I wanted was chicken. I had heard that there would be a run on meat but that was wrong. They had more meat than when I went there last week. I am set for a few more weeks.

I met my goal today of doing weights for 30 minutes. I did it in six sessions of five minutes each. My long time goal is to do 30 minutes in one session.

Had a nice day, did my peddler for 120 minutes in two 30 minute sessions and one 60 minutes. I decided I should not work those muscle every day I should have rest days in between so the muscle will repair. So I planned a workout schedule...upper body work out using hand held 5 pound weights for 30 minutes a day on MWF. Lower body work out using peddlar and or walks for 120 minutes on TTS. Rest day Sunday

I'm still stalling on decluttering. I started reading the second Marie Kondo book. She says you need to imagine your life without the clutter and the need to spend time at it. I actually can't imagine it. Or what I imagine is not that much better, except that it's not hanging over my head. I wonder what would hang over my head then?

I have to admit I also sure like having freedom to do this and that all day. Is it the same as just eating whatever appeals all day? It's much harder to control my activities than my eating.

The sun has been waking me up even though I have a decent window shade in the bedroom because there is no door on the bedroom and sunlight was coming from the living area. I remebmerd I do have a blackout curtain panel and draped it over a rod last night. I think it helped and it is keeping the living room cooler. I know one of the things that stalls me in decluttering is that I know there are still a lot of things it would take to make my place really nice. The plaster walls are hard to hang things on. I'd have to hire someone to put up rods. Oh, Universe, give me strength!

Oolala good job taking some time for yourself before tackling that decluttering. I need to order a shelf to put in my bedroom half closet and clear up more space in my bedroom. There is just too much stored in my room.

I sat a goal today of doing 120 minutes of exercise and I met that goal with weights, walking and my peddler. I am going to be stronger going out of this month than I was going in. Now to just get my eating under control. Lol

Between meals, today has been about a short gardening bout, cleaning the kitchen while listening to a discussion on a small branch of Indian philosophy and a standup routine by an Irish-American comedienne, some Sparking, and reading some of a collection of short stories from India. I keep forgetting to sit down and write out some questions I have about one of the meditative practices recommended to us. Will I do that today so that I can ask tomorrow? No guarantee.

I often think about but do not often write about is how much my happiness can seem to depend on whether I think I am meeting many standards and getting my own or others’ approval, and these often seem to depend on outside circumstances. These are not surface thoughts but they underlie a lot of general mild anxious feelings that are often just in the background. My teacher keeps emphasizing that we never get any lasting happiness that depends on circumstances, that there is a peace beyond them, even the pandemic, even in our own personal troubles. Part of the meditative practices are about unraveling those ties to circumstances.

It is darned hot here, too, though hotter inside. I had closed all windows because plane and car noise had covered up video sound. Opened the door to my deck for awhile but will put on some video or music while I white knuckle some decluttering.

Having a good day went to Starbucks in the supermarket to get a favorite drink a Mango Refresher. It is low calorie and a good way to have a cool drink on a hot day. It is 83° today and I have the new fan running in my bedroom. I did three sessions of 30 minutes on my peddler. I am doing a fast day today for my health.

Took a nice 30+ minute walk this morning. Did my pedaler for 30 minute in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon. I also worked out with my weights. In the afternoon I went for a ride to the bank and to pick up a med. It was a lovely day in the 80's. When I came home I shaved my legs and put on shorts. I also turned on the new fan.

I have been having a problem with Spark People so am late getting on. Today's high lght was walking to the drug store to get change. I bought a bar of soap and four marked down peanut butter Easter eggs. I gave two to hubby.
I worked out with my peddler for two 30 minute sessions. And skipped dinner because I was not hungry.

I took advantage over the last few days of an offer of free landscaping large gravel in a neighborhood a few miles away. It meant I had to load it myself; I didn't have the best tools for the job, but it worked out ok. I made two trips, one Friday evening and one this morning and now the middle 1 1/2 feet of the path from my back gate to the back end of my deck has a nice layer of a slightly green gravel that makes a nice enough walkway. The inside of my place is sage green everywhere but the bathroom and after nearly 18 years, I still like it.

Going to listen in on an Indian philosophical discussion while I do housework.

Had fun today the charger cable on my phone got a short and started a tiny fire on the cord. I was able to move it before it started a fire. It tripped the breaker and we had to wait for maintenance to come. We were only out of power one hour.

I think generally men and women like different movies. Car chases leave me bored except for a few classic greats. One re-run "The Great Escape" has that great motorbike chase. I still like "Chic flicks" but find as I age I like them a lot less

I went to a online meditation today conducted by my philosophy teacher. He is doing this only during thiskl lockdown. He hasn't been conducting mediations for quite a few years, so this was good. Usually, he just has discussions. However, it was pretty short. He'll do them a few times a week; I'll go again.

Had one long conversation with friend in Grass Valley who has been quite unhappy for a long time. This of course isn't helping, except that she had been isolating to some degree anyway so now it doesn't seem as weird and sad. We are both a little worried about what it's going to be like when the situation changes and our lives don't open back up to all kinds of great social interaction. But we can't solve that now, so onwards where we are.

I've been binge watching a series called Better Call Saul. I thought it was going to be very violent, but the first few seasons weren't and it was a bit clever, but just about whenever a program has a drug dealing storyline, it's going to get violent, and now it has. It's as if the writers don't know what to do if they can't have the drug lords get more and more cruel (which I imagine is realistic, but still not that interesting to me) and some person who doesn't want to be involved getting sucked down deeper and deeper into it. There is only one more season (not finished; they still have new episodes to broadcast) after the one I'm in, but I think I may not get to it.

I watched what I thought was a good movie called 20th Century Women. It was a chic flick, but a cut above, IMHO. I hadn't seen a movie that I felt that much approval for in awhile. I admit that I'm picky about movies. I just don't like much mainstream stuff. A lot of people would probably think it was slow, and it did feel a little long towards the end, but for the most part, a win.

Got my yoga in and will do a 15-minute vigor session before the end of today.

My peddler is the kind that sits on the floor. I put the TV on at 8:30am and put the peddler right in front of the tv in my room. I peddler for 30 minutes. This is new for me so still in the honeymoon stage let's see how it is next month.

Spent another day unfortunately mostly online. It was overcast and windy a lot of the day. The forecast said we have a 90-100% chance of rain all night tonight until 1 tomorrow afternoon. That is very unusual for San Diego, and esp in April. Let's hope the big earthquake doesn't happen now, too! The rain started right about the time it was forecast to. It's a little lighter now, but it's been a long time since I can remember it raining as hard as it did the last half hour. At first, since I live in the flight path, I thought it was a plane passing overhead, but the sound went on and on. I realized it was the rain on the leaves of a tangerine tree outside my window. We need water, but this will also lead to a lot of plant growth that can then be a fire hazard when our dry weather comes. But can't do anything about that now.

Glad you like the peddler, Kathryn. That kind of motion is supposed to be good for your knees, especially if the tension is not high. Do you sit on it or set it on the floor in front of you? I think I used to have something like that, and was too lazy to use it, so I gave it away. Right now, I have a piece of equipment out in the rain. It's way too big to keep inside, and I haven't used it in at least a year, and never regularly. I'm giving myself until the summer solstice to start using it more regularly. or I will give it away, too. Rained on or not, it's still usable. No electronic parts.

I had a good start to the day. I did the peddler for 30 minutes stright. I will increase the time to 45 minutes next and increase until I am doing an hour. I can sit and do it and watch TV or read. They have a gadget like it on TV where the old lady is sitting and doing her knitting. So it is easy to use but boy are my muscles telling me I worked out. I also did my weights today

I got candy at the supermarket and shared it with hubby, it did not start a binge emoticon

Over the years we have had exercise equipment and at first we used it lining up for a turn then eventually it moved outside and we looked for someone to give it to. I have a foot roller and forget to use it and it helps so I have extra insensitive to use it.
I decided to stock up on sweet stuff big mistake means I eat more.
Well keep up the peddling. Hugs

Your soup sounds yummy.

I got up early this morning and peddled for 30 minutes. I just put the peddlar in front of the TV and got to it. I am using an easy tention as this is new exercise to me. I am use to taking 30+ minute walks for 6x week. I have read you should shake up your exercise.

I am trying to just eat 3 meals a day and not having snacks. I am also going to just have sweets on Saturday. I almost did that last week. I had four cookies on Friday and knew better.

I was up in the wee hours of the day but stayed in bed until 8 on the phone doing Spark things. Than spent some time down in the lobby. All of us stayed 6 feet apart. When it was about time for the caretaker to get off I had her take me to get hubby some KFC for his dinner. He liked that and I had an apple and a scrambled egg. I am fasting today.

I have taken West African dance lessons on and off for over 25 years. If I had a regular partner, I would do a lot more partner dancing, but the ratio of men dancers to women dancers is not very favorable for getting to dance much without cooperative partners. Last summer, I started taking tap classes for seniors. I could be practicing all of these with Youtube videos, but I've used only a fraction of my free time to do that. Maybe if quarantining goes on for longer, I'll break down and get busy!

When I was going through menopause, I could barely keep awake in the evenings, but would wake up around 1 or 2. Amazingly, if I got up and did some housework, then went back to bed and slept even for an hour, I would awake very refreshed. But the evening sleepiness was crushing. I've tried a few times getting up in the middle of the night, but then I tend not to go back to sleep ever, so I stay in bed and read or listen to Insight Timer, a mediation app. It kind of ruins some kinds of meditation to make it a habit to fall asleep doing it, and it doesn't always work, either. I'm sure it' not helping my health, but I don't seem to be able to affect it the way I can NOT eat.

I lounged around until 9:30 am, then did a free exercise class with Silver Sneakers on Facebook. It was actually too easy for me, but it did induce me to keep moving at more rigorous moves for the whole time the video was on. I thought I was eligible for other non-free services they have online, but it turns out I am eligible for something through Kaiser called Silver and Fit. But really, there is so much available for free online that it's almost crazy to pay for any of it, it seems to me. And if those free classes get a following, they still get money from advertisers, though they don't make any money off me.

I did some cooking and storing this morning, so the kitchen is a mess again. I sometimes wish I was still okay with using more convenience foods, but I figure while I'm able enough, I should take advantage, just like I will often take the stairs just because I still CAN.

I try going to bed about 10.30pm and getting up about 7.30 am my time not a hard and fast rule but I think routine is important. I don't sleep the whole time. If I am awake too long then I listen to the radio or even get out of bed and play the card games on the computer.
I have only been to see a movie with others a few times for the same reason you outline but it is so interesting to discuss the movie. Just a TV show would also work.
What type of dancing do you do?
Went to the shops bought some ready made salad

I an lucky if I am asleep before midnight and sleep until 5. I am not sleeping in the morning, just staying longer in bed reading the New York times and other stuff that comes up. Even if I go to bed earlier and by chance fall asleep, I will often then awake even earlier and then be awake. I've done various things to get back to sleep, but none of them are surefire.

Fiddled away some time in the morning trying to get into an online dance class I never found the link for. Went out to pick up a pizza slice and some greens at local spots. I also just drove around a bit in my neighborhood and the one north of me. Pretty quiet out there. I attended an online reading of the second half of The Taming of the Shrew this afternoon.

A friend in Canada and I said we should plan to watch the same movie at around the same time so we can communicate about it, but I am not a mainstream movie person, so trying to find something we both will have access to is tricky. He is staying in a hostel for now. I will spend some time this evening going over some of my research and trying to get it in an email to him.

Yes, I have been washing fruits with strong peels in soapy water, in fact, anything washable I bring home. The only veggies I've been eating raw are ones where the come from inside some kind of covered outside, like cabbage (and I cooked the outside leaves) or ones that came packaged, like Costco lettuce. I guess that might be taking a chance on that, though I suspect the lettuce is probably washed and packed my machine. I give a steam or stirfry to everything else.

I have been staying in bed later and later. It sure makes the day seem shorter. How can it be almost 7 p.m.? I changed the bed sheets and did laundry, some exercise, a little bit of cooking. Is that it? In my defense, I hardly ever use the drier for more than a few minutes (to get the big wrinkles out) to dry my clothes, so laundry does take some time to hang wet stuff out.

I swear, though, that I will spend at least 15 minutes straightening in the living room before I go to bed. But I've said that before...

I admit that I have gotten much more careful about how much TP I use per visit. But I spent two years in the Middle East with no TP. They had a good system for washing right on the toilet though their squat toilets make it easier. It's an option in desperate times, but I don't see it likely being necessary for a couple of months at least.

A little Vietnamese organization in San Diego offered a free mask for the taking, so I went out for one. There was also a man in my neighborhood giving away blood oranges so I took some of them, too. He pulled his head away while he poured some from a bag of his into one of mine. I decided while out that I would get some takeout from a little inexpensive Vietnamese restaurant relatively nearby, but they were all closed up. I hope they don't go out of business. I did stop at one store on the way home to get more mineral water, wearing my mask and keeping my distance. But I will not go into a public space with other people again for several days at least. I washed everything washable with soap as soon as I got home. I was out for less than two hours and kind of feel like I was gone all day! I still need to get in my 15 minutes of vigor and a tap lesson, plus my basic yoga. I'm almost finished with one book-on-paper that was recommended, though I am not sure why. It's an okay story, but more like an animal fable than a regular story. But I will finish it before going back to my physics book.

This is a safe place to share what ever is on your mind. On my mind is the fear of running out of TP. I do not know who started the internet rumor that our TP was coming from China and we would be running out. We ran out because there was a run on it and the factories here in the USA could not keep up with the demand. And now there was also some rumor that I did not hear about the eggs and now all those are off the shelves what next. We need to stop listening to every thing on the internet. I will get off my soap box now. Thank you for letting me vent.

Took a cannabis capsule from a bottle that for some reason has some capsules that seem not to have any effect at all. But when it does, it's quite profound. I did get a bit of munchies, but just had a light supper. I decided not to distract during the experience and contemplated some of the questions and concepts of an Indian philosophy that I have studied mostly through lecture for several years. Some of the concepts, very different interpretations of experience started to make a little more sense. It didn't all fall into place, but it felt closer. It sometimes feels almost like a physics problem. It is not meant to be based on faith but on examination, but our usual interpretations are very different. It's a bit like those pictures that were out in the '90's I think were they looked at first like a field of dots, but if you adjusted your looking, you could see distinct other shapes. Not quite there, but I feel closer.

And that was before I was reading a book on physics for lay people. It too has some ideas that are mind-blowing to me, one of which is how it has been explained how the universe came to be that matches the one approximate description in the philosophy I study over a thousand years ago . It's interesting to me that there are these people in our society who know such different things about the world than we are used to thinking and so few of us are aware of. Our immediate lives are so wrapped up in what are actually little pictures. Not to dismiss them, but to try to see a different way to lighten the load, which is so often our perception.

Kind of rambling. Thanks for allowing me a space to do it. Nobody I know would want to hear it!

Oolala I can just see you tapping to bed. When I was about 8 we lived in a house with hardwood floors I use to do my little petend tap. I loved the sound of it. I still to this day like the sound of tap brings back fond memories.
