Renee, my eating mentor said you can't control ideal results, only ideal behavior. Any stable weight follows relatively sustained behaviors. If we don't want to live with big pendulum swings, we have to find a routine we can live with MOST of the time.

I just do cannot find any pattern that produces days when I feel darn unconcerned with food, but I am grateful when I have them. Today was one!

Day 7 BF complete.

Day nine here too!! I am going to succeed. I have decided to not weigh myself except once a month. From every morning to once a month will take some habit breaking actions, such as hiding the scale. However, I have to take this step. I randomly weighed myself and had actually gained. The number on the scale has been a binge trigger in the past, but my body feels more svelte, so I can not allow my weight to set off emotions that lead me into negativity. Weight numbers are only part of this process, so I am going to focus on the number of days "abstinent" from bingeing.

Slowly but surely I will attain and pass my goals!!

Last weekend I was in full binge mode after having almost 23 days of eating normal. That beast of a behavior is life wrecking. Giving up and curling into a ball of frustration and sense of failure, I almost canceled my membership to Sparks. Instead, I rooted myself deeper into these teams that deal specifically with bingeing and food addiction. The regular overeating teams got me to 23 days of success, but there are many people who struggle with weight who have hever binged, so I felt like a bit of a freak when I went off the deep end with calorie consumption. But switching my "cancel" mentality to digging deeper to see what Spark People had to offer, I found this group and another one that addresses this dark side of food consumption. I am once again on the road to eating normal and within my calorie level. These last eight days of eating right gives me a sense of hope which, with the help of my fellow Sparkers, will continue to be my way of life.

Slowly but surely I will attain and pass my goals!!

Sorry guys, I've been really busy. Two sick dogs with special diets and medicine, and I just started reading for the blind as well.

Looks like you are all managing your binging really well. It really is a %'s game...

Hang in there!

I completed day five binge free! Last weekend, I ate more than 8500 calories per binge day. When I think about what I have consumed, I feel bad for my body. I think I am eating for comfort but comfortable is not even close to what I feel when I regain my sanity after a few days of bingeing. Anyway this time, I turned it around. I was crying and praying at the same time as I opened the Spark People site to cancel my membership. Instead I reached out and found you and a couple other people who understand the insanity of bingeing. With that kind of help, I will not fail. Congratulations on the successful weight loss. In six months, I hope to be able to say, I am at goal weight. right now my turtle has barely moved. I did lose three of the four I gained back! Yay!

Kitten, you made it the whole cycle of a week! Awesome.

Kathryn, two cycles! Going into the weekend strong.

Renee, I shouldn't doubt how much you might have eaten but to gain four pounds of fat, you would probably have had to eat about 8,500 calories each weekend day. More likely your body kept water from the intensely flavored foods (salty? sugary? flour-y?) plus some fat. Sometimes the body lets go of the water fast, sometimes not. It's part of our survival mechanisms that most bodies like to store fat but are reluctant to let it go. It's not a personal weakness! You are going to turn this around. I don't know if I told you, but I'm 66. Kept off 40 lbs, for several of the last 10 years, have bounced around 6 or 7 lbs, but am maintaining lower now. I think older women have advantages. My natural appetite is definitely lower. A lot of us have accepted that this has to be a long term style of eating, not something we do just to get to a certain weight. We might be more likely to truly take our health seriously instead of just giving it lip service. And, we know there is not as much time left to get our eating manageable.

I'm so glad the weather has warmed up enough that I actually want to get out of bed in the morning. My plan for May of not using devices unless they accompany something productive- exercise, background while I do housework, etc.- until 10 a. m. is helping my attitude in general.

Day 3 complete.

Day 5
Welcome Renee!
I am around your age and also struggle with bingeing. My mind sometimes tells me I am "too old" but you know what - I am not too old.
I have made a concerted effort to reach my goal weight lately and have now done it. I understand bingeing and thus I am on Day 5 instead of a long streak of binge free days. I have fought the pounds back off and after a few more am determined to stay at goal.

today I am changing my mindset to: I want to do this, I can do this, I am grateful to be able to do this rather than I have to do this because I messed up. I think a positive outlook will work much better.

Yes to bring these reasons, not to binge, to the forefront of the mind, can make the battle a victory. I am 65 years old and started battling binges when I was in my teens. I was able to keep normal weight until there was multiple deaths in my immediate family. Perhpas to fill the void I felt from the loss of my brother, my mom and my dad, I used food. My pattern of a couple of days of endless binges unconsciously increased at that time, and I started gaining weight until I ended up where I am now. I worked hard to lose that four lbs in the 3 weeks I was binge free, but gained it all back in a weekend because of the number of calories consumed. If I added up what I consumed I would probably be shocked. These last few days I am staying within calorie range. Thank you for your counsel and encouragement. I wish you excellence!!

Renee, finding as many reasons a binge "isn't worth it," and really believing them (not just because they SHOULD be good reasons) is very helpful, though even then, it can be confusing. The pathways of urges can be very strong and uncomfortable to deny; when we really get that the discomfort of being controlled by the urge and the cruddy feelings afterwards are even more painful, the tide can begin to turn.

Five full healthy days! Yay! Until last weekend I had over 22 days so I will succeed and surpass this 21 day goal. That's the plan and that's the goal. Boy at my age the weight comes off so slowly, so gaining back in a couple of days what it took me three weeks to lose is an eye-opener. The binge isn't worth the weight gain. :'(

Renee, so glad you came back. It takes longer to get really established than most of us want, especially when you're talking about something so basic as eating. And even then... We're here for you no matter how much adipose tissue is or isn't on your frame.

A calm day with food. Gratitude. Day 1 complete.

I had over 21 days on track and felt like I finally got this now. I felt so motivated and successful. I had arrived and the weight was coming off slowly. Then that weird internal switch flipped to binge mode. :'( I gained back the four lbs I lost and the tears lowed. I was feeling once more like a failure. I gave up, and resigned myself to dying fat. I got on Spark people with full intention of cancelling my membership, but something (God) stopped me. Instead I reached out and found this team and a couple of others. I am too old not to succeed this time. Before I leave this world, I will have the right amount of adipose tissue intended for this frame. Three full days of eating well and exercising. Yay! Thank you all who have been such an encouragement!

Slowly but surely I will attain and pass my goals!!

Congrats, Jol1! emoticon

I know that experience, Tawney. Congrats on quick recovery. emoticon

Inspiring, Kathryn. emoticon

I feel I had a good eating day even though I broke some behavior rules; they didn't lead to overages. I want my eating to be relatively structured, but I also don't want occasional deviations to become excuses to crash the car because the fender was bent. Saturday is the day I give myself to be more spontaneous.

Day 1

I am back to Day 1. Yesterday I watched myself react to some possible plan changes. I slipped into a binge, interrupted it and then expanded on it.
today I a back on the wagon.

Welcome and congratulations, Kitten!

Didn't make it yesterday, though it was more of compulsive eating of small amounts but way too often, so that it added up to more than simple overeating. But I also got my first grocery delivery using Instacart and did not go and tuck into any other the big packages I got.

Day 1 down, on to Day 2!

Actually, probably a few days into this now, but haven't been keeping track, so starting over :)

Trying not to gain too much while pregnant with baby number 4! Started 20 pounds overweight, so if I can end this pregnancy where I ended the other pregnancies, I should be in a good place to lose after birth.

Glad to see you all are still active!

Finished Day 18 !!!! Working on Day 19

I don't know what I did, if anything, to not get mails! I kind of liked it because I have 3 message boards and I could just check my mail to see if anyone posted rather than going to all of them. Anyway, it just stopped in April. I've looked at the settings but they seem ok. Not going to spend too much time on it. emoticon

Bizarre, I've stopped getting any board emails. When someone posts, I usually get an email, which is nice. But not now. I resubscribed and everything. Anybody ever have that?

Tx, throat is better but I am pretending it is not. In March I kept backing off on prophylactics when I felt better and soreness kept coming back.

Day 9 complete. More free form Saturday and am pleased with selection and amount.

Fighting off a cold. Not jumping to conclusions, but being vigilant with gargling, fluids, and herbals. Have been to only a few stores in weeks. I should write down what I remember in case, but hoping for the best and staying home.

Finished day 7. No urges to binge but appetite skewed. Last couple of days I have been hungry much sooner than my regular meal time in the morning but then not hungry before the dinner window. Reluctant to upset the apple cart, though.

Boy, I wanted to keep eating tonight, but I didn't! A little high in calories, but not bad. Was able to cap it (as Oolala says) with the commitment board.

Mother's Day threw me off, and while I didn't go full binge mode, I didn't eat mindfully and ate more than I needed. So day one today, and it was success! And on the up side, I learned how to bake cream puffs, which was one of the baking skills (pate a choux) that I wanted to conquer 😊. Looking forward to a successful day 2 tomorrow
