I hadn't ever heard of using a crock pot for the turkey before. I am not too good at cutting them, so I don't think it would have fit, but maybe next time I will be able to do that. I am going to start getting whole chickens so that Cassie can have the backs and gizzards, so I will have to get some of those good kitchen shears to cut them with. Then I should be able to cut the turkey, too.

It's great that you are going to be able to see Carol soon and get Hank, Starr. I can tell you are excited.

Carol, I have wound up with mayonnaise in my fridge that has turned yellow and I still had half a jar left in it. But it is cheaper for that large jar than the smaller one, which I can't understand. I think the regular price is $3.99 or sometimes $4.25 for the Best Foods and the smaller jar that is less than half as much is $3.59. That is really stupid. But I hate to waste half the jar. Of course, I can't afford the smaller size, either. It is like the milk. It is always going on sale for $1.99 or $2.19 per gallon and the half gallon is no less than $1.99. Of course, I now have way too much milk in the fridge because I was going to make the scalloped potatoes that take a lot of milk and then Anne got me a half gallon at the food pantry. Have to check when the half gallon sell-by date is and if it isn't for a few days yet I will give it to the next door neighbors. They haven't been home to give it to before.

I'm going to re-post a fruit salad recipe from SP that I made for yesterday here. It was really really good. Everyone really liked it. Not overly sweet either. If you are better at maneuvering around this site than I am you can maybe find it. But just in case, check out the recipe posts here...

First of all Starr, I did hear from her yesterday but we got home so late so couldn't call back. Did talk with her this morning and Hankie Pankie will be coming this afternoon at 4pm. :D

Had a wonderful day yesterday. DD made her turkey in the oven in one of those roaster bags and goodness it was fall apart tender and moist. I've never used them (too cheap, LOL) That idea of the crockpot sounds like a great one too if you have 2 pots or large enough one. I always buy the biggest turkey I can find (mom's advice) so mine are usually around 20 lbs. or so, when they have them on sale really cheap. Then I use all the leftovers for sandwiches and also freeze alot for future soups, casseroles, etc.

Darlene, why would you waste the mayo? Man, mine just keeps forever in the fridge. I don't use that much (or didn't until lately, now dad and I eat alot of tuna sandwiches). So it can sit for months on end never used.

I did some Christmas shopping online yesterday so I am nearly done. Wish I could say the gifts were all wrapped. Ugh, I hate that job.

Linda, I had no idea you had left your bird. I would have been soooo worried. They are so delicate. So glad he's ok.

Well, time to get going and get something done. DH left this morning, not in a good mood so we had a couple of "words" when he said he just hated the thought of driving and so it put him in a bad mood and he couldn't help it. Well, I told him, that was not my fault and he didn't need to take it out on me. He didn't apologize, but he did quit being so difficult and snappish. Whew, so we parted on good terms. I did NOT want to have him leave with us being glad to be apart (at least on my part!)

I'll be ready for that hug Starr. ;)

Linda, I am so, so, so glad that you got your electric back on and that your bird made it thru the power outage. emoticon emoticon

Yes, I am going to be very happy to get Hank. emoticon emoticon I've been planning things that he and my other 2 dogs are going to all do together. emoticon And Carol better be ready~~because she is going to get a great big bear hug when I see her!!!!! Happy-no. I am not going to be happy at all to see Carol. I am going to be THRILLED!!!!!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon I can hardly wait to get Hank and finaly meet Carol. emoticon It's not coming soon enough for me. emoticon

I'm with you Fancy, our last few days have been extremely warm too. In fact, the day before yesterday it was almost 90 degrees!!!! In OKLAHOMA!!!!! At the end of NOVEMBER!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am sorry Fancy, that you've not been able to get out and see Christmas lights. I would loved to have taken you with us to see them last night if you lived closer. That would have been a joy to come and get you and have you spend the evening with us. emoticon emoticon It is was a nice display, but the traffic that you had to creep along thru to even get close to the lights was a nightmare. I kind of wish that we had of made the 45 minute drive to Muskogee. The VA hospital puts up Christmas lights in honor heights park every year and they always outdo everyone in the Oklahoma area. And the traffic is not gridlocked to get in to see either. Oh well, that is probably what we will do next year.

Fancy, I sorry that your turkey did not turn out well. Have you ever though of cooking one in a crock pot? That is what DD and I did this year. She cut one in half and we put 1/2 in my crock pot and 1/2 in my crock pot. put in half a lemon, some garlic, sage, oregano, & pepper in both and let them cook on low all night. Got up the next morning to find great smelling tender & moist turkey in both crock pots. And they tasted emoticon too. I would have never though about cooking a turkey in a crock pot. It was my eldest DD's idea.

5 bucks for a jar of mayonnaise is crazy. The last time I bought mayo it was just under $3.00 for a medium size jar for one of the name brands. Guess that tells you how often I buy mayo.

Carol, have you heard anything about Hank?

MAKE 2020 THE BEST YOU CAN.

Linda, I'm glad you got your power back. Sounds like your house got awfully cold. I am bad enough when mine gets to the low 60s (which it does just about every day even though the thermostat is set at 70).

The last few days we have had really warm weather for this time of year. Tomorrow it is supposed to be colder. I don't think any snow, though.

I would love to get out and see the lights. Use to go see them every year. I hope you had a good time seeing them Starr.

I made my turkey today. Didn't get it done too well, though. The white meat is extremely dry and I didn't get it seasoned well enough. But I can always add salt and pepper to it. I ran out of mayonnaise for sandwiches, so headed out to get that or was going to make my own, but needed a couple things for that. The costs of the mayonnaise were crazy. The one store it started at over $5. I went across the street and their's was less. Best Foods (Hellman's) was on sale for $2.99 for the large jar. The smaller jar, which would be better for me since I am alone, was $3.95. So I was going to get the large one, but I saw something else for 2 for $6 and decided that one cent would be okay and I wouldn't be wasting over half a jar. The one I got was gluten free and soy free, which was great for me.

Hi Everyone, sounds like you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Darlene, I am so happy that you have Anne's family to love you so much and we love you so much also. We will always be your friends and be here for you. You are very special to us.
We didn't hear from our new members how was your Thanksgiving? Kat? Helen?

Well, good news, I got my power back today so we were able to come back home late this afternoon. I am so happy to be back home. I really appreciate my daughter opening her home to me but there is nothing like being back in your own home. No damage was done to our house except we lost some food, not sure how much yet, have to go through it tomorrow. I covered my parakeet with towels before I left to go to my daughters and she made through. I was so afraid she was going to die but apparently the towels helped to keep her warm enough. When my DH came with my SIL to hook up the generator one day it was 46 degrees in the house. Hope that is the only time we lose power for the winter.

Starr, You must be so anxious to get Hank, huh? And get to meet Carol too?

Starr, that sounds nice going to see all those lights with your son and family, how was it?

I found out a couple of days ago, that my biological cousin, Carol that I had mentioned to you earlier had passed away on 11/18 and I only found out about it on 11/26. So I missed the wake. I felt really bad about that. I knew that she was going to be passing away before Christmas and I had planned on attending the wake and services. I just wasn't told about until after the wake was over. So sad.

Sending out tons of hugs and love to all of you,

Danlin

Hi all........... emoticon

Linda, I hope that your electric is back on and your back home now. emoticon

Darlene, were all glad that were your friends and that your are friend too. emoticon

Carol, I hope that your able to get in touch with them soon and are able to get Hank on Sunday as your wanting to. I hope that they do not change their minds. emoticon emoticon

Aside from missing my sweet Alan, I had a nice Thanksgiving with my children and grand-sons. Savvy & I did all the cooking. I cooked a turkey in my crock pot, made some dressing, and green bean casserole (both dressed up a bit) a pecan pie (Alan's favorite~he did not care what else there was to eat as long as he got pecan pie to eat) and some Kings Haawian rolls. Savanaha made sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes & gravy, cranberry sauce and whipped cream. We took everything to DeWayne & my grand-son's house and everyone ate and talked up a storm. I very, very much missed Alan being there in body, but I know that he was there in spirit. We went back to DeWayne's today to celebrate his youngest son's birthday. Alexzander turned 8 today. Tomorrow evening all of us will meet back at his house and take his vehicle to go see the Christmas lights at a church on the other side of Tulsa. They have more then 2 million lights up this year.

Tomorrow morning I'll be gong to the DAV (disabled American Veteran's) to help with decorating the inside with Christmas decorations.

Everyone have a blessed weekend.

Love,
Starr

Thanks for the reminder, Carol. I was going to go right to the Craftsy site and forgot.

Having fun trying to figure out how to do some things. I tried to go vote for a FB & Sparkpeople friend's pictures on a photo page and couldn't figure how to get there. It had a "sign in" thing, so I did that and now have a free membership on that. Have no idea how to do anything on there, but in signing up it had to download a photo for their "picture of the week" contest, so I am now in that. Don't ask me how to get to it, though, cause I don't know. I had something in my camera that is a sunset that I took from the old barn, so I put that on there. Of course, I don't take nearly as good of photos as Loretta does, but it was a good one for me. I have no idea to see how it is doing. Maybe I will put it on Flickr and then see if some of the Shutterbugs photographers will comment.

We love you Darlene. I am so happy you had a fun day yesterday and have that blessed family to be your family. God bless them.

I called about Hank, but got no answer on either cell or home phone so left 2 messages. hoping she calls and we can get him Sun.

Not much news, other than I went crazy and bought myself a Christmas/b-day gift (anticipation of coming $'s) LOL. Bought a sewing machine on the Amazon "lightening sale". My oldest daughter insists I will love it. Now I'm getting "shakey knees"! But I'm excited too. It has LOADS of stitches for my Stitch and Slash and Stupendous Stitching Craftsy classes!!! Did you check out their free classes Darlene? Still time, they are on until Mon. I think.

tomorrow we go to my daughter's and we are having fun texting right now. We are all excited. :)

Have a good night. Hope all was ok at your house Linda.

I saw something about the power outages in the east. Sorry you are having them for so long. I haven't seen anything on Boston, but my cousin decided to go back to St. Louis after South America when they came back. His daughter and her family live in Boston. Of course, he said they got sick when they were in South America, too, which might have weighed in on their decision.

We had a great Thanksgiving yesterday, except I ate too much. The men made most of the dinner but the few things that others brought. Then Mandy had something that was called Nordstrom's Surprise that was really, really good and I ate too much of that, too. I don't have any family nearby, so Anne's family has adopted me as one of their's. Her little granddaughter even asked me to play with her and as they were leaving she gave me a hug and a kiss. I've got a few leftovers and then the stuff from the food pantry so will have quite a bit to eat. I don't think I will need to go out for much other than some mayonnaise for the turkey. I am so blessed to have Anne's family in my life.

I am also blessed to have you all in my life. Thank you for being my friends.

Hi Everyone It is Friday afternoon and I am still at my daughter's house and we still don't have power at our house. The turkey is cooking in her oven and it smells wonderful here. My SIL and DH are heading to my house right now to check on, things and to see of they can hook up a generator that my SIL has, it is suppose to be very cold tonight.

Mischief isn't feeling well, has a touch of the flu so let's send good thoughts for a speedy recovery for our team member Mischief.

What kind of weather is everyone else having and how are you feeling?

Hugs & love,

Danlin

Brrr.... Linda! I hope your pipes don't freeze!

Today I get ready for tomorrow. Need to go to the grocery store for just a couple more things. Am making a fruit salad, will take the leftover sweet potatoes and apples I made for yesterday, there are still quite alot left. They were a hit. :) Had people wanting my "recipe"!!! His mom always makes a few, and they are awful. Canned yams, with a little oj and brown sugar over them. Eeeooouuuwww. No one hardly eats them and it's always been "my family doesn't like sweet potatoes. I just had to laugh to myself yesterday, some didn't take any because they "didn't like them", others politely took some, then there were "remarks" of "Wow, those did NOT taste at all like I expected! They are really good!" So then others were going and getting some as well, much surprise all round, requests for recipe. LOL. So, that went well. His mom and sister are not the greatest cooks around. His sister brought the pies. 2 purchased pies and an "OK" apple crisp. It really needed the ice cream with it. I hate store bought pie. If you don't want to make it, why do you say that is what you will bring? She was the first one to get to choose her item. Too lazy to cook I guess. OK, yes, I will stop, I know I am being nasty, but it's hard to spend a day with people who don't like you on a holiday and not be that way at times. I'm sorry. Well, sort of...
I will be calling on Hanky-Panky (Starr's new little buddy soon) to see if I can get him this weekend. :)
Not much other news. Am just glad yesterday is over.
Sarah, how was your day? Hope you felt better and got to enjoy your day with your family.

Darlene, the Craftsy site is having a big Black Friday sale this weekend. Every class is on sale. I know you can't afford them, but they also have alot of free classes this weekend, I don't know if they are just added on special or if they are actual classes, they all seem to be shorter ones, but free is always good. :) I signed up for a bunch of them.

Hi everyone. How was your Thanksgiving? I am at my youngest daughter's house right now because we lost power yesterday around 6 p.m and we still don't have it back .It was 55 degrees in the house when we left and it was cold. We didn't have any water either. So we are sleeping at my daughter's house tonight. we usually celebrate Thanksgiving with her on Friday so hopefully the power will be back on and we can go back home tomorrow night.
We got about a foot or more of snow. It looks so beautiful but it brought down a lot of trees and branches and caused a lot of power outages across New Hampshire.
Oh I just love winter NOT!!!!

Hugs!!

Danlin

Great news on your eyes Darlene, I am so happy for you. How are you feeling Carol? doing better? How was your day Starr with your family, I was thinking of you?

Well, that's good news Darlene about your eye. Hope you can somehow get the other one done.

I happened to see this on tv today and it sounded good and thought of you so went and found the recipe on the food network for you. Hope you like it.

Broiled Cauliflower Steaks with Parsley and Lemon

SHOW:
Thanksgiving at Bobby's

Broiled Cauliflower Steaks with Parsley and Lemon

Total Time:
2 hr 45 min
Prep:
15 min
Inactive:
2 hr
Cook:
30 min

Yield:
8 to 10 servings
Ingredients

Cauliflower:
2 large heads cauliflower (2 to 2 1/2 pounds each)
Kosher salt
Two 13 1/2-ounce cans unsweetened coconut milk
2 tablespoons coriander seeds, lightly crushed
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Vinaigrette:
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Gremolata:
1 cup flat-leaf parsley leaves, chopped
Zest of 1 lemon
2 medium cloves garlic, minced

Directions

For the cauliflower: Place the first head of cauliflower upright (stem-side down) on a flat surface. Using a large knife and imagining that you are creating two large steaks from each head of cauliflower, trim a little off each end so that when you split the cauliflower in half, each half will lie flat. Cut the cauliflower in half. You should yield two "steaks," each weighing about 14 to 15 ounces. Repeat with the other cauliflower.

Bring 6 quarts of water to a rolling boil in a pot large enough to hold the cauliflower steaks. Add salt until the water tastes like mild seawater. (How will you know? Take a little water with a spoon and taste a drop of it.) Layer a baking sheet with a kitchen towel. Add the cauliflower steaks to the boiling water and cook until they are slightly tender when pierced with the tip of a knife, 6 to 8 minutes. Use a large slotted spoon or spatula to carefully transfer the steaks to the baking sheet to drain.

In a container large enough to fit the cauliflower snugly, whisk the coconut milk together with the coriander, red pepper flakes and a generous pinch of salt. Submerge the steaks in the coconut milk marinade and refrigerate for at least 2 hours and up to 24 hours.

For the vinaigrette: Whisk together the lemon juice, mustard and vinegar in a medium bowl. Slowly whisk in the olive oil. Set aside.

For the gremolata: Combine the parsley, lemon zest and garlic in a small bowl. Set aside.

Finish the cauliflower: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Remove the cauliflower steaks from the coconut milk marinade and arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Season with salt. Place in the oven and cook until tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Heat the broiler and place the cauliflower under the broiler for a few minutes, until the top chars. Transfer the steaks to a serving platter (or individual plates) and drizzle liberally with all of the vinaigrette. Top with all of the gremolata. Add a pinch more salt if desired. Serve immediately.

Had my check on my eye today and it seems to be going pretty well. With correction I was able to read at the 20/40 level which nobody thought I would be able to do. I would have to move my eye a bit from side to side to see all the letters, but I did manage. The next line I couldn't move my eyes enough to see the letters. He also checked the glare on the other eye and said he wants to do that one, too. Only problem is there is no way I can get the money to pay for the co-pay/deductible. I went to get gas today and I couldn't use my credit card to get it. I used cash for the Dr. appointment and get one skein of yarn to fix towels to hang in kitchens, so didn't have any of that left.

I have been hearing about snow in the east. We had a little late last night/early this morning. It got warmer during the day. Tomorrow they are saying it could be in the upper 60s and Friday in the low 70s. I will like that.

Starr, I am so sorry to hear about your engagement ring, I know exactly how you feel. I lost my wedding band and never found it. It broke my heart also.
My sympathy on the passing of your friend, it is too b ad that you didn't hear about your friend's death when it happened.
Well, we are having our first snowstorm today suppose to be at least 12" of snow.

Take care everyone and stay safe for the holidays,

Hugs,

Danlin

Would you guys do me a favor, and if there are things that need on going prayers, like Sarah's son, etc. please repost them now and then on the prayer post? I have such a terrible memory, and as the list lengthens I end up forgetting some of the things I want to pray about. Then if/when I see something that "jogs" my memory and it's been awhile I feel so bad that I've forgotten. I am so thankful for that prayer list post.

Good morning everyone.

Oh, Starr, I am feeling so bad for you. I do understand about that diamond. It is a very special part of your connection in your marriage. I also lost my first diamond, not the ring, just the diamond - and I was pretty sure it was lost out in the tomato fields when I was picking. I was heartbroken. I do soooo understand how much that diamond meant to you, because of the circumstances. But you must keep remembering all you learned in that grief class, and keep that knowledge right there in front of you. Try to remember all the good times and good things and all the blessings you had with your dear Alan. Think of those, and don't dwell on the loss. I KNOW that is impossible, but try and aim for that. And as you think of those blessings, know that alot of people have never and will never have all those blessings you've had. In a strange way, I've always found that remembering that altho I've lost, I HAVE been blessed with things others will never have and somehow it lessens the horrible feelings of loss. I can't really explain it, it's just a "lightening of the load". You and I talked about knowing this week was going to be hard. Wouldn't you know that would be the week of the diamond loss and finding out about your friend as well? Murphy's law I guess. You will be ever in my prayers sweetie.

Linda, soooo glad to hear your news. WooHoo...

Darlene, glad I mentioned that recipe (Starr too). :) I thought it sounded pretty good. I don't see how cauliflower could taste like potatoes, but I love the taste of cauliflower so I wouldn't care if it didn't, infact I guess I want cauliflower to taste like cauliflower. LOL.

DH got home last night late, so had to wait up for him until about 1am because we have learned to let Gracie Mae greet him outside. She gets so excited that sometimes she pees!!! It was a good thing, she peed quite a bit I guess last nite. I've noticed the last 2 wks. or so if she gets scared she does that too (if she thinks I'm mad or I make too fast a move toward her). It's happened a couple of times now. She never used to do that. I'm wondering if it's because of having her spayed. I hope that doesn't continue. :(

Hope you all have a wonderful day. I can already tell DH is stressed about everything he has to do before he has to leave again. It's not looking good for a "convivial day". LOL. I was thinking I might try and go around with him, but I think I will stay home. He gets too cranky when he's stressed!

So sorry for your losses, Starr. Just keep saying your prayers that the Lord will tell you where that diamond is. It has happened many times before.

I just noticed that one of my Christmas cactus has a ton of blooms on one side. I thought I had turned it so that the other side bloomed, but guess I hadn't. Anyway, I took a couple pictures of it and a couple of the big one in the living room that doesn't have quite as many blooms but is getting more. I have it turned, too. So I will have to post them.

Had a bit of a time getting my cranberry stuff sweet enough, but I think II finally got there. It isn't gelling too well, so I guess it will go and stay in the mold instead of being turned out on a plate.

Linda, I'm glad that your eye appointment went well. Hoping mine will do well tomorrow, too.

Carol, I did check out the Bible Verse, but I need to look at what is going on there before I can comment. My mind just isn't connecting this week.

You guys, I've NOT had a good day at all.

I've not been doing too well the past few days, think it is because it is Thanksgiving time. And today I noticed (not sure when it happened) I lost the diamond in my engagement ring that Alan gave me almost 30 years ago. I am almost beside myself with grief over the loss of that. I'm sure there are lots of folks who would say that is stupid, but it is not stupid to me. To me, my engagement ring and wedding band are a part of my sweet Alan!!

Also today, I found out that a friend of mine passed away at the beginning of this month, but I was just told about it today. The person who told me said they thought that I already knew. Imagine my shock. And sadness.

Linda, that is great that your eye appointment went well and also great that you got your glasses on the same day. And you have your flu shot out of the way too. You go girl!!

Carol, that cauliflower reciepie sounds great. I have a Christmas party coming up for the DAV next month, I am thinking about maxing that and taking it.

Fancy, sounds like your cooking up a storm. Can I come and visit you?

Everyone have a great night and wonderful Thanksgiving-eve.

Hugs to all,
~~Starr~~

I hadn't opened the recipe of the day yet, but saw that it was something with cauliflower. Thanks for the alert.

Today I am trying to get some cranberry orange sauce made. I used Stevia to sweeten, but I had a lot of trouble getting it where I wanted it. I hope it is okay now. The oranges I got were really sour and I thought I was getting California oranges and not Chilean oranges. I cooked my one little pumpkin. Not sure what I will make with it, but will try something. I also want to try some fudge that there is a recipe for on Satisfying Eats, where she does things with no grain and no sugar. Some things also don't have dairy or nuts. The things with nuts are stilll higher calorie, but they are low carb so maybe I can have some. Tomorrow I will cook the sweet potatoes after I get home and they will be ready to finish Thursday morning. I think I am crazy. I really don't need to do that stuff except I told Anne I would bring the sweet potatoes cause I ended up with so many. But once I get started on something like that, I just keep going at it.

My brain must be thinking of sometime in spring or back in the fall when it was nice warm weather. I could swear they said on the weather report that it would be in the 70s on Thursday or Friday and just in the 50s and 60s the rest of the week and sunny. Then I found out that it is snowing in the mountains and we are suppose to get light snow down here and the temperature is only 43. I want that weather like I thought they were telling about. Maybe I shouldn't fall asleep with the TV on and hear parts of the news when I am asleep.

Hope your eye appointment went well, Linda. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Nearly forgot, Darlene did you see the recipe of the day? It's Cyn's Mock Potato Casserole. Just in case you can't find it I copied it to put it here for you...

Cyn's Mock Potato Casserole
You'll never believe that this creamy, rich dish doesn't have any potatoes! It's also high in protein for a side with 10 grams per serving!
Minutes to Prepare: 30
Minutes to Cook: 20
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

16 oz bag frozen cauliflower
2 T light butter with canola oil (like Land O Lakes brand spreadable)
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 lb turkey bacon, cooked until crispy and crumbled
8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
2 T chopped green onions
2 T Water

Directions
Serves 8

Microwave cauliflower with 2 T water for 10-15 minutes until VERY soft, drain, then mash with potato masher.

Blend in butter and cream cheese.

Add the shredded cheese (reserving about 1/2 cup) and remaining ingredients, and stir together.

Put in a casserole dish and top with remaining shredded cheese.

Bake 350 for 20 minutes, until brown and bubbly.

Quick good morning. Linda, I've been praying for you for your eye Dr. app't that it will be all good news. Sarah, you also have been ever present in my prayers. I hope you have some freedom from your pain so you can enjoy your holiday.

I didn't sleep well at all again, don't know why I've started that. So, after feeling good yesterday I feel awful again today. DH may be home tonite or tomorrow nite, I won't know which for a bit, so decided to make a large pot of venison soup so I'm all set no matter what. Got that made this morning. :)

Time for a bath and then I think I'm going back to bed and work on Christmas cards. Hope you all have a good day.

Did you guys know I did post a Bible verse for last week? I am going to skip it this week, because it is just such a busy week. BTW, I thank you Kat for the Bible Gateway info. I'd never heard of that. I also could get on it and I think that will be a really nice place that I will enjoy. Maybe it will give me more/better ideas for our Thurs. things.

Starr, I agree with Carol, what they are putting you through just to get your benefits is so unfair. Can you go to your Senator for some help or something or write to your local newspaper? You know that old squeaky wheel saying???

Sounds like you are going to have a very nice Thanksgiving Starr, I am so happy for you.
We are suppose to be getting our first major snow storm starting tomorrow and going into Thanksgiving day. Suppose to get something like 8 to 12 ". DH & I aren't going anywhere on Thanksgiving day so that will be fine with us. We will be going out on Friday and the roads should be cleared by then.

I was able to bring up that Bible Gateway that Kat was talking about. That could be very useful for us in what Carol would like to try to do.

Today I have my eye doctor appointment, hoping for good results. And I hope I get to get my flu shot today also.

Well. hope you are having a nice day. Take good care of yourself.

Hugs,

Danlin

HOPPING MAD!!! ARRRRGGGGHHHH, it just makes me CRAZY what this gov't. does, gives away all that free $ and stuff to the illegals, but our vets and their families go without, get robbed, and wait until it's too late for health issues. Yes, HOPPING, HOPPING MAD...

Sorry Sarah, I forgot to answer the question too. Also bad memory. NO I do not do black Friday. I do NOT like crowds, pushing & shoving, screaming, having to walk the entire length of a parking lot (or even further) to get to the inside of a store, long lines, or finding all the products that I am shopping for sold out. None of it is worth it to me, even to save some money. When I was a kid I remember on the news that my dad was watching one night a lady being killed by a bunch of people rushing into a store to get a toy that all the little boys wanted (I can't remember what the toy was), but I sure do remember that lady being killed by the rampage of all those people who cared about nothing except getting their hands on that toy. Even as a kid, I understood what was happening and that it certainly was not right.

Sarah, Kat & Helen, I'm SO glad to see you all chiming in with us. As Carol says, it is a blessing to have you all join us. Hope you'll be able to chat with us on a regular basis. All of us would LOVE that. emoticon

Well Linda, my plans for Thanksgiving are to make dressing, green bean casserole, pumpkin spice cookies and sweet potatoes and a can of cranberry sauce to take over to my sons. My eldest is going to cook the turkey, make the gravy & rolls and take it over to my sons. My son is making a apple & pumpkin pie. Eldest DD will have a 6 year old girl who she babysits almost every day for more then 2 years, and we consider part of our family. So it will be me, both my DD's, DS, 3 grand-sons, and DD's charge eating together. emoticon

Me and DD's went to DH's grave yesterday and decorated it for Thanksgiving. emoticon emoticon It was a cold, grey and windy day.....appropriate day for going to the cemetery, I guess.

I did 5 minutes on the elliptical this morning, which I guess is better then the day before yesterday, as I did it at a higher intensity then I did the day before.

I started working on Christmas emoticon cards this morning. I'll be lucky if I get them done by the week before Christmas. But, what can I say.....I'm trying.

Tomorrow I have to go to the Disabled American Veteran's, again, about my claim with the VA. This will make the 4th time that I have had to go since March. And the SECOND claim that has had to be put in. Because the VA LOST part of the packet that all the original paperwork was sent in back in March. And, I just found out, that if the VA has not made a decision within 1 year of Alan's death, my spousal benefits will not be retro-active. I do NOT think that is fair, but who am I to argue with the government.....right? emoticon emoticon

I have heard about Bible Gateway before, that it is a good site to access biblical information. But like you Fancy, my computer will not allow it to be downloaded either. emoticon

Carol, that cool that you got to talk to Linda on the phone today. emoticon I KNOW that you both enjoyed that.

Ok, I've got to go fix dinner. emoticon hugs to everyone.

MAKE 2020 THE BEST YOU CAN.

I forgot to answer Sarah's question. (I have a TERRIBLE memory).

No, I don't do the Black Friday thing either. I did it one year several years ago because there were so many things I wanted so I decided to try it out. I was lucky and got a cart (Menard's). It never dawned on me that so many people would show up and there would be no carts!!! I could never have gotten all that I went for without one. But it was a madhouse. Since I was there I did shop, and then went for a quick look at Walmart because by that time the early madness had calmed down. But I sure did vow, NEVER again. It's just insanity.

Kat, thank you for the information on Bible Gateway. I know that they use that at church a lot and a friend uses it. Unfortunately, my computer doesn't seem to want me to get on it. It had something download a toolbar, but never could get anything to come up. When I tried it loaded another toolbar. My computer does all sorts of weird things.

Helen, glad to see you on the team, too.

Sarah, I hoe that this week you will be feeling better and enjoy your Thanksgiving. I think your idea of going down early and cooking at your son's sounds good if you are making the big things like the turkey. Seems it would be hard to do a turkey at home and then travel a distance to take it to the dinner, though, come to think of it, I did that for several years for the church dinner.

I am going to be trying some sweet potato casserole if I can find the recipes again. Might make some cranberry relish today or tomorrow. Just realized I don't know what time things are on Thursday. Guess I'd better ask.

I have never gone to any of the big Black Friday sales. I did go to Family Christian's "Black Friday" for several years, but they changed what I was always needing (my planner) to the week before Thanksgiving so I don't go after anymore. I guess I should learn to just use my phone for that, but I am just not used to that. It isn't a Smart Phone, but it does have a calendar on it.

When I went to Verizon to ask them about some things I looked at their Pre-pay phones. I didn't know they had changed the amounts on them until then. My program went from unlimited data to 1 g (since the extra $5 is set up on my auto-pay). What surprised me, though, is they only have one phone now that isn't a Smart Phone (a newer version of the one I have) and four that are Smart Phones and the Smart Phone price is now the same as the regular one. So next time I will get one of the Smart Phones (the cheapest, I'm sure). I don't know what the difference in the different Smart Phones is except one of them you cannot replace the battery if it goes out. All the LG phones you can replace the batteries. I can't manage one now, so will check those more if and when I can.

Oh, this is such a good day to see Sarah and 2 faces that are pretty much new to our chat here. Goodness, this IS a feast for the soul this Thanksgiving week!!! What a grand day, even if it is bitter cold. We are so happy to have you two new gals, and Sarah, I was just asking Linda about you yesterday. Will be praying that your pain subsides and that you can and do have a wonderful Thanksgiving day with your family.

Hi dear ones:
I have been MIA as I have been flaring and experiencing a great deal of pain and fatigue.....unable to function much at all. I keep pushing and trying to function but it is so hard.

Im sure many of you are making Thanksgiving plans.....I am traveling to youngest sons house as we are to get granddaughter at 2pm Thanksgiving day. I am also cooking a turkey and several deserts. Not sure How I am going to do all that and travel...may go early to sons house and cook there. Right now I can barely make it off the sofa so we shall see how it goes.

I hope you all are feeling well and are able to enjoy a happy Thanksgiving.
Do any of you do Black Friday shopping? I avoid it like the plague. Crowds make my pain go way high and all that pushing and shoving trying to get something just is too much for me. I am only buying 2 gifts for my 2 grandkids..all I can afford. So I am done. Ordered them..grandson is getting a mic Lego Duplo (larger legos) train set....plus an art set and a huge stuffed Mickey mouse. Plus a couple of trains. Granddaugher is getting some kind of light up angel that flies and lands in your hand....plus a karaoke machine. So I am done.

We had some really bad weather here yesterday. Strong winds....tornado warnings all around us. Today is warmer and things are soaked from all the rain.

Will try to check in more frequently-depends on how my pain and fatigue are doing.....

Hugs to each of you!
Sarah

Momma Bear (Helen) We will put Joe on out prayer list that he is safe in the woods while he is hunting for deer but that is something you could do. Anyone can put there loved ones names on our Prayer Request list for our prayers on Wednesday. Nice to hear from you again, it has been such a long time, how is that beautiful granddaughter of yours doing?

Hugs,
Danlin

Hi all,

FANCYQTR, a good site for Bible stuff is Bible Gateway. It is a site created by Zondervan. You can search by passage and keyword and you are also able to choose what Bible version you want to read.

Hope all y'all are having a good day today. It is nice to meet you.

Kat

Momma Bear, I tried to go to your Spark page to leave you a goodie, and also wanted to comment about putting your Joe on our prayer list for the week. We pray each day, but Wed. we have a special list so we know who/what needs some extra prayers and love for the week! But your page is set to private so I could read it for some reason, but not leave a comment or goodie. :(

Well, hello Momma Bear and Happy Thanksgiving week!!! So very glad to have you join us.

Good morning everyone. I had a piano lesson this morning and have been catching up on some paper work. Got up early and got a good start. BRRRR... it's COLD outside! I had to take a couple of letters out to the mailbox so I took Gracie out and threw the ball for her a few times. She loves to chase it but she also has such a hard time relinquishing it! LOL. So I ended up coming in and she stayed out there in the cold playing with her ball. The cold does NOT bother her at all!!! You'd think with that short coat it would, but it's heat we have to be careful with as bulldogs can over heat so easily, because of their nose/breathing issues (glad I had hers fixed to help a bit at least) and apparently they can also have a flap in their throat that closes it up a bit and a small airway passage, so all that just accentuates heat and won't let them cool down as they need to. But really, goodness, how she wants to be out there in this bitter weather! Hahaha! Balls trump everything but food. emoticon emoticon

WooHoo, Darlene, I KNEW I could count on you to help me with that Bible stuff! I am not going to have time to get into it this week with all that family stuff going on, but next week lets see what we can come up with. This is EXACTLY what I want to do with the Bible verse stuff. Let's get into that Bible and really see what it tells us! Darlene, you might not know it but you just mad my day and put a smile on my face for the whole day!!! Thank you soooooo much!!!

I hope you are all staying nice and warm. And don't forget to say special prayers, especially this week of thankfulness! We need to keep Linda in our prayers that the meds work and keep those strokes and seizures away.

I'm off to get some things done. I do plan to keep it pretty quiet again today and not do too much strenuous, but I can tell, I finally feel like a person again!!! WooHoo!!!

On Thanksgiving, we will be serving dinner to others at our church. This is something we have done for several years and is just a delightful time of fellowship and thankfulness.
Our kids are in WVA enjoying the first week of deer season. So it will just be my DH and I. Then when they come home Sunday, we will get together and enjoy a blessed day.

Carol, I was thinking about that Bible thing and the forgiveness in there today. I know that some of my Bibles have a concordance in the back, so I was trying to look some of them up, but the one I had didn't have what we were looking for (it had where it says forgive in the Lord's Prayer, where Jesus said "forgive them" as he was being crucified, etc. Only a few of them and only where he was forgiving, nothing about followers forgiving. So I'll have to get into it deeper than that or might be able to find more information in one of the other Bibles (I know one has a pretty good concordance in it).

Well, I hope it gives you some ideas for your chili Darlene. :)

I had quite a day, got up in the middle of the night and did a few things because I couldn't sleep. Talked to Linda for the first time on the phone today and that was fun to get to hear her voice! We talked about doing that Bible thing I mentioned. I will try and think how to go about it. I'm thinking we'll just do it really informal, and honestly I think it's really more to help me out than anything to find some verses for us to know for sure what God has told us we should be doing. More later. It may be a few days since it's such a busy week. No hurry, we can do it at any time.
I got a call this afternoon from one of my future new neighbors. We chatted quite awhile. I just can not tell you how excited I am to be moving to a friendly area. They've also found the people there are so very friendly. They WANT to meet you and get together and do things, unlike people here in MN who will be friendly on the street with you, but they don't want to make friends. They only want to say hello and leave it at that.

Wrote a letter to my GS, packed up some bathroom items that we won't need before we move (extra soap, etc.) And I was hoping to start on my Christmas cards, but when the neighbor called I just didn't get the chance. Maybe tomorrow. Then once I get the cards addressed and ready, I can pack away any extras. (I have lots of them as I bought some after Christmas, then found some more that I liked even better in the cutest boxes- like little houses that I had to have. LOL. So I'm set for some time. Next year it will be photo cards I think (the kind you just get the photos made and insert them in). I have some that I bought last year knowing we were going to be moving so got them for next year, last year. Hahaha. Ofcourse when I bought them I thought we'd be moved by now. Boohoo.... I also got my checkbook balanced (not much of a job as I only write 2 checks a month.) and sorted some papers that need to be filed. So I got alot done, but could do alot of it sitting quietly in bed. Made dad popcorn tonight after his supper so he's happy. time for bed. Hugs to you all and talk to you tomorrow.

Carol, that sounds interesting and a way to use up some of those sweet potatoes. I might substitute some meat for the beans.

Last night I made a big pot of potatoes and mashed them with the potato masher by hand. I guess my masher isn't very good, because they were definitely lumpy. I made them with 2/3 russet potatoes and 1/3 Yukon Gold potatoes and the Yukons turned them slightly yellow. Can you believe that people were saying you could tell they were instant from looking at them? All they would have to do is take the spoon through them and they would see they were not instant. They usually run out of potatoes, but today there were a lot left over. I have at least half of mine left.

It was really nice this morning when I left for church -- sunny and warm. It is now cloudy, cold and snowing. So we are all curled up and sitting in and by the chair trying to keep warm. And watching our football team lose AGAIN. They were supposed to be the top team in the league, but the offensive line doesn't protect the QB, the QB can't get a pass to the receivers and the receivers can't catch them even when he does get them there. Can you tell I'm disgusted?

Realized today that I will miss the craft class I wanted to go to in a couple weeks. Either the one making reindeer from wine corks or the one making cards. We have the annual Victorian Tea that day and Anne told me she was taking me to it. There is still the one to make things for the kitties and puppies (and older) at Dumb Friends later in December. And there is something coming up in January (she thinks) at the library close to me that will be nice.

I happened upon this recipe Darlene. It has beans in it, but you could do some changes, like leave them out. It has the cocoa also. Just thought you might like to see it.

Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili

Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 1 Hour 10 Minutes

Ready In: 1 Hour 30 Minutes
Servings: 4
"This hearty vegetarian chili includes roasted sweet potatoes and black beans, along with spicy, flavorful seasonings such as chili powder, jalapenos, and cocoa powder."
Ingredients:
2 pounds orange-fleshed sweet potatoes
, peeled and cut into cubes
1/2 teaspoon ground dried chipotle
pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, sliced
2 tablespoons ancho chile powder, or to
taste
1 tablespoon ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 cup water, or more as needed
1 tablespoon cornmeal
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
2 (15 ounce) cans black beans, rinsed
and drained
1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
1/2 cup sour cream, for garnish (optional)
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, for
garnish (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. Combine sweet potatoes, chipotle pepper, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large bowl and toss to coat. Spread sweet potatoes on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
3. Roast sweet potatoes in the preheated oven until the outside is crunchy and inside is tender, 20 to 25 minutes. Allow to cool to room temperature.
4. Cook and stir remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil, onion, garlic, red bell pepper, jalapeno pepper, ancho chile powder, cumin, and dried oregano together in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Cook and stir until onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
5. Pour tomatoes and water into the onion mixture and bring to a simmer. Add cornmeal, 1 teaspoon salt, sugar, and cocoa powder. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
6. Stir black beans and cooled sweet potatoes into the onion-tomato mixture. Add
more water if mixture is too thick. Simmer until heated through, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and cayenne pepper to taste. Serve topped with sour cream and cilantro.

Darlene, your wreath turned out really pretty. How nice that it is real evergreen. Bet it smells lovely. Sounds like you and Cassie had a fun day. Busy one too.

Linda, you were up early I see. I am up pretty early too, got up at 6:30, but was up "doing" at 1:30am too, as I just could not sleep. So I was probably rattling around here when you were posting if the time shown here is right. :)

I plan to do a few things and then spend the day in bed again as with no sleep I am not in real good shape today.

Have a nice time at your church dinner Darlene, and hope you have a nice visit with your family today Starr.

Carol, it sounds like you have what I had last spring. Got sick about Good Friday and ended up at the doctor twice in June. When I saw my own doctor (after I finally got over it) she said I probably had bronchitis.

I've been running all day it seems. Cassie and I went to get my planner for next year (on sale less than half price) and I found Mandisa's Overcomer CD on the $5 table, too, and splurged. I didn't plan on that one. Then we went to the pet food store and Cassie got some dental chews, chicken backs and a few Charmint treats. Then went to the Verizon store to find out how to do some things, got my email attached to it and I realized afterwards that it would end up costing me too much so had to take it off. This afternoon I went to another craft class and made a wreath. I thought they would be with fake evergreen, but they are real. We were allowed to bring part of the evergreen home to make other things with, like candle rings. My wreath turned out a little heart shaped. I have to find a wreath hanger that I think I have to hang it better and put some ornaments or bows on it. It was a great class except I ate the goodies they had.

Tonight I am making potatoes for our dinner at church tomorrow. Was going to do scalloped, but I just got too lazy and most of the people like the mashed for Thanksgiving, so they are in a pot and will be smashed later.

Going to try to put a picture of my wreath on here.

I talked to Starr this afternoon and she and I talked very briefly about something I would like to do as a group if you guys are willing. Starr liked the idea... So here it is. For "however long" rather than a Bible verse I would love to explore the subject of "are we as Christians told in the Bible we MUST ALWAYS forgive"? I am not sure, but as I recall, we are to forgive if and when someone who has done wrong asks for forgiveness. I do not recall anywhere where it says YOU MUST FORGIVE if there is no repentance. There is more to this I and Starr talked about, and I don't want to or feel up to going into it further right now, but would you guys like to have a discussion and some "hunting for" verses on this subject in the Bible?

There's really not much you can do for something like this. You just have to let it run it's course. It is a long lived one. As I said, my DD had it for several weeks and DH still has it as well. This is only 1 week down for me plus a day so I may as well face the facts, it's not going away for a bit. Maybe I will get to "miss" Thanksgiving! There is nearly always a Silver Lining. Hahaha!!!

Hope you feel better soon, should you go to the doctor's, Carol? Sorry you didn't get to go out with your daughter's today but it was a smart decision to stay home.

I am very thankful today.

Good morning ladies. I am still really ill. Full of "stuff" in my head and throat. It is a good thing I did not try and go to my daughters today. I feel awful! Off for my bath and back to bed...
I did manage to get a Bible verse done for the week. Check it out.

And don't forget to be THANKFUL!!! :)

Starr, I wish I could help you with deciding what to do, but I can't say how to do it. I know how hard it is to figure out how to get past the hurt he has caused, especially when it keeps going on because you are always having to deal with the repercussions. I haven't had relatives do that, but have had co-workers who were supposed to be friends and bosses that I worked hard for do things to keep me from getting jobs that I could make a living at. I could forget the hurt they caused until I would try for a job and couldn't get one, then the pain would come back. Maybe if you can forget at least at the times when you aren't having to worry about the payments going in that would help and eventually you will be able to forgive and forget. Or not forget, because you don't want him to keep getting away with doing those things. Hope that makes sense. I know that I have a very hard time forgiving people who have done me wrong, but there are places in the Bible that, I think, give some instruction on how to do it.

HAY THERE GIRLS,

HOW ARE YOU ALL DOING ON THIS FRIDAY? WELL I HOPE

ARE YOU FEELING BETTER CAROL? emoticon I HOPE YOU WILL FEELING LIKE GETTING OUT WITH YOUR DAUGHTERS ON SATURDAY.......AND DIDN'T YOU SAY SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR GRANDSON'S GAME? I HOPE YOU FEEL LIKE/GET TO GO TO THAT AS WELL.

LINDA, I AM SORRY THAT YOU AND HUBBY WERE NOT ABLE TO GET THAT BIBLE VERSE POSTED. IT SEEMS THAT THE CRAZY THING JUST DOES NOT WANT TO BE READ BY THE MASSES, FOR SOME REASON. ALL THE MORE REASON TO GET IT POSTED, IT THINK.

I HOPE THAT THE ESTIMATE ON YOUR HOT WATER TANK & SKYLIGHT WILL BE MUCH CHEAPER THEN WHAT YOU THINK THAT THEY WILL BE. emoticon IT IS ALWAYS NICE TO GET A NICE SURPRISE LIKE THAT. I WISH THAT THE NICE SURPRISES WOULD FAR OUT-WEIGH THE NOT-SO NICE ONES. BUT WE GOT TO LIVE LIFE THE WAY IT COMES.......RIGHT?

emoticon & emoticon FOR YOUR HUBBY LINDA. HOPE HE'LL FELL MUCH BETTER WHEN HE WAKES TOMORROW.

I LOVE YOU TOO LINDA. emoticon

DARLENE, THAT IS GREAT THAT YOU GOT A CALL FROM YOUR FRIEND IN GERMANY. emoticon SOUNDS LIKE SHE IS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME, BEING SWITCH BACK & FORTH WITH HER JOB. I HOPE IT IS EASIER FOR HER TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE THEN IT IS FOR ME. THE ARMY HAD US IN GERMANY FOR 2 YEARS IN THE LATE 80'S, AND I WAS ABLE TO PICK UP ONLY A VERY FEW WORDS. I COULD NOT CARRY ON A VALID GERMAN CONVERSATION IF I HAD TO!! emoticon

OK YOU GUYS, I NEED SOME GUIDANCE. PLEASE. AS YOU KNOW, MY BROTHER MOVED TO CALIFORNIA SUDDENLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND MAJORLY DID ME WRONG (FINANCIALLY, AMONG OTHER THINGS) IN THE PROCESS. I HAD TO PAY HIS LARGE FINAL ELECTRIC BILLS BECAUSE THEY WERE IN MINE & ALAN'S NAME. THE SUMMER BEFORE LAST THEIR AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT AND THE REPAIR MAN SAID IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE 2ND OPINION ALSO SAID THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE VERY BAD CREDIT. ALAN & I ROLLED OVER THE FACT SEVERAL TIMES THAT THEY ARE BOTH IN VERY BAD HEALTH AND CANNOT TAKE THE 100 + DEGREE HEAT/HUMIDITY OF OKLAHOMA IN THE SUMMER, AND WE PRAYED ABOUT IT. AND WE TALKED TO BROTHER AND SIL ABOUT IT. BOTHER OF THEM PROMICED AND PROMICED AND PROMICED THAT NO MATTER WHAT, THEY WOULD MAKE THE LOAN PAYMENT EVERY MONTH TILL IT WAS PAID OFF. SO WE TAKE A LOAN OUT FOR $6,000.00 (PRICE OF A/C & INTEREST). THEY MADE THE LOAN PAYMENT EVERY MONTH WHILE THEY WERE HERE, AS SOON AS THEY MOVED IN SEPTEMBER, THERE WERE NO MORE PAYMENTS MADE. ONLY BECAUSE MY SWEET ALAN & I HAVE GOOD CREDIT AND HAVE BEEN DOING BUSINESS WITH OUR BANK FOR 20 YEARS, AND I WENT IN AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION WITH MY BROTHER AND HAVING LOST ALAN THIS YEAR (AND PROBABLY BECAUSE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A PAYMENT MISSED ON THIS LOAN TILL SEPTEMBER) TO A SERVICE OFFICER AT THE BANK, THEY ARE ALLOWING ME TO SKIP SEPT, OCT & NOVEMBER'S PAYMENTS. THE NEXT PAYMENT IS DUE THE 7TH OF DECEMBER, WITH A GRACE PERIOD OF 10 DAYS. THE LAST TIME I CALLED MY BROTHER, HE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT HE COULD PAY THE LOAN, THAT HE DID NOT EVEN KNOW HOW THEY WERE GOING TO PAY THEIR RENT. THAT MAKES ME MAD ON SO MANY LEVELS, AS THEY HAD A PLACE TO LIVE HERE. THE PLACE WAS PAID FOR AND THEY WERE NOT PAYING RENT. ALL THEY HAD TO PAY WAS THE UTILITIES. BUT NO, THEY SOLD A PERFECTLY GOOD 4 BEDROOM, 2 BATH MOBILE HOME WITH A DECK, FENCED IN YARD, A 17 YEAR OLD BEAUTIFUL SHADE TREE THAT ALAN AND THE KIDS PLANTED AS A BABY TREE AND A DETACHED STORAGE ROOM FOR $6000.00----YES!!! YOU READ RIGHT!!! I TYPED $6000.00. NOW THEY LIVE IN A TINY STUIDO APPARTMENT THAT IS SO SMALL THEY CAN'T EVEN GET THEIR BED IN THE MASTER BEDROOM, THEY HAD TO PUT IT IN THE LIVING ROOM. NO YARD, ARE PAYING MORE THEN HALF OF THEIR INCOME ON RENT, CAN'T AFFORD GAS FOR THE VAN (THAT THEY BASICALLY STOLE FROM ME) BECAUSE GAS IS ALMOST A DOLLAR HIGHER THEN THEN IT IS HERE AND THE VAN GETS ONLY 14 MILES TO THE GALLON. WHICH I TOLD BROTHER, HE SAID "I KNOW, IT'S NO BIG DEAL". AND THEY HAVE NO ROOM FOR ALL THEIR STUFF-EVEN THOUGH THEY SOLD MORE THEN HALF OF WHAT THEY HAD HERE AT A YARD SALE. ANYWAY, COME NEXT MONTH I KNOW THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY FOR THAT LOAN, JUST LIKE I HAD TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY FOR HIS FINAL ELECTRIC & GAS BILL. HE WILL BE 70 YEARS OLD NEXT MONTH, BUT HE ACTS LIKE HE IS 7!!!! I AM FIGHTING DAILY WITH MY FEELINGS BECAUSE I KNOW THAT GOD DOES NOT WANT US TO HOLD GRUDGES OR SUCH AT THAT. I DON'T HAVE ANY DESIRE TO "GET BACK" AT HIM......I KNOW THAT GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT-IN HIS TIME. BUT I FEEL SO SEVERLY TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF, IN MORE WAYS THEN ONE. AND JUST 6 SHORT MONTHS AFTER I LOST THE SWEET LOVE OF MY LIFE. NOT THAT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A "GOOD" TIME FOR MY BROTHER TO PULL A STUNT SUCH AS THIS, BUT WHY AT SUCH A VUNERABLE TIME IN MY LIFE? I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE THAT IS WHY HE DID WHAT HE DID WHEN HE DID. IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME. THIS IS THE SAME PERSON WHO, THE WEEK AFTER ALAN DIED, TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO JUST GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON WITH LIFE!! ANYWAY, MY ELDEDT DD KEEPS TELLING ME THAT I NEED TO NOT THINK ABOUT WHAT MY BROTHER HAS DONE TO ME AND PUT IT IN GOD'S HANDS. BUT HOW DO I DO THAT WHEN I AM THE PERSON WHO IS HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE REPERCUTIONS OF MY BROTHER'S RESPONSIBILITIES WHICH ultimately become my responsibilities when he is not man enough to take care of them??

Ok, gotta go. I'm tearing up and having a hard time seeing. love you all.

MAKE 2020 THE BEST YOU CAN.

REMEMBER, JESUS LOVES YOU--ALL THE TIME!!

"RIP MY SWEET, SWEET ALAN. I WILL LOVE & MISS YOU FOREVER."

Is the Bible verse just one you are trying to write out and post or is there a link somewhere that it shows up on line? Funny that it won't let anyone post it. Maybe it will allow just the Book, Chapter, Verse and we can look it up.

I got Orzo to come in and get on his table in the living room this afternoon. I don't know what he was doing all morning. Usually he is in here. Anyway, I noticed that the Christmas Cactus is blooming today. So I decided to go check the other one and found it is blooming too. So happy about that. I haven't gotten the one to Ginny yet and it is losing its blooms. I think I'd better get it over to church on Sunday. Then Craig can take it home to her since I don't know where she lives and I doubt she is at the house where the barn is.

Tomorrow I need to get my potatoes done for Sunday (unless I do them today -- I think they will be fine still), plus there is a craft class and I need to go to Family Christian Store and get a planner. They have them for $5 Saturday through Wednesday and they go fast. Last year I got a refill for a Day Runner and it cost me $13. That will be a busy day. I don't think Cassie is too thrilled with me going to those classes and such. She is against the chair and if I move she jumps up to go with me.

Carol, Hubby & I tried to post your bible verse last night and we didn't have any luck. We kept getting the same message you did. It is too bad because I really liked the story.

Starr, I am so happy that you found those grief session meetings. I think they really helped you when you needed them the most. I see the difference in you and I am so happy to have you back with us again. I love you, Starr.

Hubby is home today, wasn't feeling very well this morning and he has someone coming from Home Depot to give us a estimate on a new hot water tank and fixing our skylight that leaks. He just wants to see what the damage would be to get the items fixed or replaced.

Still haven't gone out for my flu shot yet, hoping to get that done this weekend.

Hope you all have a great weekend, Good luck Carol with getting out on Saturday with your daughters.

Darlene, must have been awesome to talk with your friend from Germany.

Take care everyone,

Hugs & love

Danlin

Carol, you guys sure do have problems down there. It is too bad that people have to be that way all over. Hope you can get out to your daughter's and the game. That would be so nice to have a day out.

I have never had cauliflower that I thought tasted like potatoes, either, but I keep reading and hearing that if you make it like mashed potatoes it will taste the same. I didn't get anything made to go with anyway, just ate the hamburger gravy by itself.

Today my friend called from Germany. It had been quite a while since I heard from her and she has called twice in the last 2 or 3 weeks. It's nice to hear from her once in a while. She was having problems with things around here several years ago and heard the company she was working for was going to close down, so transferred to France. Then that office either got smaller or closed, so she was transferred to Germany. Well, she had lived in Germany before, so knew German. She had just finished her French classes before moving to France. Recently she was taking Spanish (Spain type, I'm sure). She once told me she didn't want to get a new Bible until she learned the language it was translated from at the very beginning, so I guess she will have to learn Hebrew and Greek. She's going to end up knowing as many languages as one of my cousins.

Went to the Painting with Paper class tonight. I was trying to figure out how to put a rainbow on mine, but couldn't figure it out this time, so it is just different colors going almost straight across. Put a couple circles on as sunshine, but that doesn't look all that good either. So the background looks a little funny. I have another board to try again after i find some more tissue paper. This one is getting finished with some foliage and I am going to try to find some butterflies to put on it or some birds. She showed us the next project she will be teaching and that looks nice. It is a basket made with rolled paper. There is some name for that type of rolled paper, but I don't remember it.

Decided I want to try a Maple-sweet potato casserole I keep seeing so stopped to get 3 pounds of sweet potatoes. Well, that is how much the scales in produce says I was getting. Turned out to be 6 1/2 pounds. They really have crappy scales in the produce department. Now I found out that my friend's son and DIL won't eat sweet potatoes other than just baked (I think the canned thrown in the oven, but not sure). Even if I make their kind I am going to make my casserole, too.

Good evening girls. A day mostly spent in bed again. I am heartily sick of it. But at least I am better than yesterday. Would really like to run out to Aldis tomorrow to try and pick up some good buys (like butter- we go thru butter now with dad, about 2 sticks every 3 days!) I sort of hate to go out in the cold, but I also hate to miss the buys. We will (hopefully) be going out on Sat. to my daughter's. Guess I'll wait and see how I feel in the morning.

Darlene, the local thrift store here has the most fabric, but I don't think it's national. It's called Family Pathways I believe. Lately it doesn't have much fabric tho. At least nothing I am interested in. And they've also started bagging up "sets" of fabric so you have to purchase it all, even tho you don't want but one or 2. So that has stopped me from purchasing there at least for now.

Yes, Starr, some folks seem to find the need to "get even" if they don't like the way things went. They never stop and think perhaps if they had behaved in a different manner it may have gone in a different direction for them. The heating guy insisted we HAD to purchase TWO air conditioners for the house!!! One for the basement! Well, that was so outrageously expensive and we feel unneeded. But he wouldn't budge. So he just outed himself. It's our house, our decision, not his. The cement guy you've all heard about, and the other guy is connected to the cement guy... We'll never know for sure, but life always seems to have the nasty folks who have to make their presence felt I guess. And then ofcourse there are the "little men". ;)

Well, time to be getting our dinner. Hope you all had a good day and a nice evening. Stay warm. Brrr... it feels like Jan. out there!

Hay there girls.....................................

I'm popping to say hi real quick. Need to go take care of some outside chores before it gets dark.

Eldest DD & I bought an elliptical exercise machine last week. since she brings her dog to my house every week day for me to babysit while she goes to work, she had it delivered to my house. she comes early to my house every morning and uses it. She's doing much, much better then me. Usually about 30 minutes a day. Me?? I am lucky if I can do 3 minutes a day.

I had to do rearranging of my living room to make room for the elliptical. I've rearranged it twice, but am still not happy with the way it looks or "feel. I am going to try again this afternoon to rearrange it......and see how it goes.

My friend at church finally had her baby yesterday. She had begun to think that she wasn't going to have it. They finally had a little boy, after having 4 girls. They had been wanting to have a boy after their 2nd girl came along. I wonder now, if they are going to keep having children, or if they are dune. If it were me, I would have been dune 2 children ago!! Boy or not!!

Last night was the last meeting of my Grief Share group. Hard to believe that I have been doing that for 13 weeks. I am happy to say that I am doing a bit better now then I was doing when I began the class. Although I am not sure if it was the class, time having passed or a little of both that has helped me. What ever it was, I am happy to say that I am doing a bit better. Am still worried about getting spousal benefits though. Still have heard nothing from the VA and it will be 9 months since my sweet Alan's death in just 13 days. All I know for sure is that the VA lost part of the first packet that was filed back in March, and so I had to file more paper work at the beginning of this month.

Linda, I am sorry that your feeling "foggy" today. I hope you'll feel better later today or tomorrow.

Carol, it sounds like someone was sticking their nose in where it did not belong with your all's building your house. How dare they. I never have understood how people can do stuff like that to other people and still get up in the morning and it not eat at them.

Ok everyone, I've got to get those outside chores done, also need to get me some lunch before I turn around and it is dinner time. Love and hugs to everyone.

Thing is, everyone is licensed, so it was all a waste of time for him. ;)

If we can't get it to post, I'll do a Bible verse tomorrow. I sure did want to post that one though. Thought it was cute. Thanks for trying Linda.

Carol, It would not let me post your Bible Verse, I had the same problem as you, I am going to ask my hubby about it tonight and see if he can help me with it.

Darlene, I don't think cauliflower taste like mashed potatoes but if you like the taste of it and you like your gravy then I say go for it and enjoy it.

Carol, sounds like you are right, someone must have turned you in for some reason. Yes, stay in bed for a extra day so you will be okay to go out on Saturday.

Feel like I am in a fog today, can't seem to think straight.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Hugs,

Danlin

Good morning everyone. Well, I hope Tammy's play goes off wonderfully. I am sure it will . They are always fun. My girlfriend invited me to see Lorie Line again (wonderful pianist) so that is Sat. Dec. 6th also. Those tickets are like $50-$60 or so, she works for a music store here (big one) and they get 10 free tickets to give out and she can keep 2. Got to go last year also. So I will take a Papa Murphy's pizza for us to have for dinner. Tried to take her out to dinner last year and that didn't go so well. She had to work so late that we had to go straight to the show, then eat and we couldn't find anything we wanted to eat at that was still open. So we'll do the pizza this year and it will be there for before or after, whichever is needed. :) Want to do something for her to say thank you. How lucky am I?!

DH met "Barney Fife" yesterday, only when you actually have to deal with him, he isn't funny. (If you think about it, if you were one of the folks Barney was after, it wouldn't be funny would it?! LOL). Anyway, this guy drove up yesterday late afternoon. Gets out of his car and puts his "Texas Ranger" hat on (DH's words) and flashes his shiny "badge". Now - he is NOT an officer of the law, he is just an agent checking carpenter, builder's licenses! And he took out his pad and pen and began writing down answers DH gave him for names, etc. Then proceeded to THREATEN DH that is anyone who wasn't licensed was used "he could make BIG trouble" for us. DH was pleasant thru it all, knowing if he got nasty it would just make the "little man" (my words for this type) worse. We both know that someone called them, because this is way out in the back of no where and they would have not known we were building there otherwise. (You don't have to have a building permit there yet!) So someone is mad at DH, we have 3 candidates... the cement guy DH "fired", the heating guy he didn't use, and another fellow. Hmmm.... we'll never know, but ain't life grand?

Well, I am going to be good today and stay in bed again. Sat. I and my girls are planning a girl's night and I want to see my GD play basketball. If I can't go, I'll be so sad. Crossing my fingers. Being a good girl.

I have asked Linda to post a special thing for our Bible verse for me. Don't know if she will be able to or not. It again would not let me post it (no html). :( I hope she can post it and I hope you enjoy it. hugs, have a wonderful day everyone.

Just remembered your question Darlene. I don't make hamburger gravy, can't stand the stuff! But I would think cauliflower mashed would work? It's pretty bland flavored. I feel so sorry for you, I have no idea how you do it with no carbs at all. I wouldn't know where to begin. I don't think I could get along without them. I sure know that time I tried I got so crabby after 6 wks. I even knew I was hard to live with! I was starving all the time. I'm really do not know what all you can't eat, is it just carbs? How do they affect you? Does it kick in the IBS? What sort of diets have the Drs. given you to follow? It's hard to try to help when we really don't know where to begin. Can you give us some guide lines?

Tammy's Christmas emoticon play is December 6th. So she has 2 more practices before the "big" day.

I've just got 10 more Thanksgiving emoticon cards to do, then I will be done with that. Then, I will be starting on Christmas emoticon cards.

Carol, I am SO glad that Gracie did not hurt Pip. Gracie just wanted to play, but a big dogs play can be very rough on a tiny doggy-as you know.

Everyone have a good nite.

Hugs

I agree that the people who are always trying to tell people what to do have an inferiority complex. My one friend that I talk to so much is always saying "I am not stupid" but she will come up with some really crazy things. Then she won't listen to what a person says. Neither will her sister. Oh, Marie listened all the way through me telling her that I needed to condition the leather of my bridle, then turned around and told me that I needed to condition it and the saddle, too. Didn't matter that I told her I had already conditioned the saddle and was going to condition the bridle. Her sister, on the other hand, would never listen to what someone said, but would interrupt to ORDER a person to do things her way (I don't talk to her anymore, because as well as ordering people around and telling them how to do things, she was totally rude to everyone. I don't know how she has even one friend.

I have some hot packs from Walgreens that are similar to those rice bags, but they don't smell as good. They sure feel good when they are needed, though. If I get the release next week I will try to get things to where I can make some more of them. Might even make a couple more for here at home. Last year I followed something on the internet and the ones I made were actually a bit too small, so I hope I can make some larger. Does anyone know what thrift stores are likely to carry material at them?

Linda, my cataracts were the size of pin heads or the point of a pin (I think the latter) until that surgery last year. I still have that very tiny one in my right eye. I guess I will be having to see two opthamologists from now on because of that, one for retina and one for cataracts. Then the place uses other doctors, maybe just optometrists, for glasses or contact prescriptions. I have had the cataracts for at least 9 years because the optometrist when I got those glasses back then saw them.

Got to wondering about something since I made hamburger gravy tonight. Does anyone have any idea what that would be good over if you aren't supposed to have the regular potatoes or grain products like bread (enough that there is grain in the gravy). Does mashed cauliflower really taste like potatoes? Or what else might work?

Morning Ladies, I love those rice bags, especially the scented ones.
Carol, your husband is so lucky, what was he thinking? That would be the last thing you people would need happening to you at this point in your life? I hope he has learned his lesson.
Yes, I am glad I have a good eye doctor, she also said I have 1 small cataracts is each eye but they don't need surgery st this point.

Good luck Darlene with selling your saddle on Craig's list.

I am glad to hear that you are starting to show some signs of improvement Carol but don't rush it.

Starr, how is your DD's practicing for the Christmas play coming along? When is the play?

Did some Christmas shopping online last night for some of the grandchildren, I ended up getting one of the gifts free so that was pretty cool.

Have a wonderful day everyone

Hugs to all,

Danlin

Good morning ladies. I am going to try and remember all the comments but I won't promise anything. I have a good memory, it's just short. LOL.

I have a corn bag and it works really well. I forget about it, should use it more often. Got it from a lady I used to work with. She made them for a group of us for Christmas I think it was.

I think I over did yesterday. I've been up for not quite an hour and I was worn out when I got up! So it will be a quiet day for me. Poor Gracie is showing that she has had no exercise, she's getting "frisky" with poor little Pip. I can't let them outside together as I found out yesterday. I think he thought he was done for (me too). She had him rolling around like a ball under her. She thinks she is playing, doesn't mean any harm, but I'm afraid she could get going enough and actually kill him! He was sure shook up!

Talked with DH last evening. I mentioned my girls agreed he needed a "talking to" and also that they both said they didn't think they would have told me. He laughed. Then I said, but if I hadn't given you a talking to, after you hung up and thought about it, wouldn't it have bothered you? It would mean I didn't care. He agreed. :)

I've had a pair of glasses come wrong as well, knew it right away. But this time it was my eye changing about 2months after I got them. They were fine until then. The glasses place can't help that. :(

Good luck selling that saddle Darlene. Good idea about the feed store place.

As to those friends who "know it all", don't you have to sort of feel sorry for them? They must have an inferiority complex that makes them want to make everyone else feel "less" so they feel better about themselves. DH has to deal with people similar to that at places like the border when he goes into Canada with loads. I call them "little men" who want to feel big. Once he got into it with one who hauled him into the building because he had venison sausage. From home. It was right on the package what it was and whatever else. The guy was really being a jerk. Finally DH asked to see his superior. The superior told DH to "get out of here" (he was angry, but it was obvious it was with the jerk). Most are fine, but you get the occasional one who wants to "show you" how "powerful" he is, so you have to give him your orange or your apple, or heaven forbid, the jello with the fruit in it...

I'm going back to bed!
PS. I've already said my prayers for everyone, don't forget, it's special prayer day!

Starr, the rice bags are heating pads. You make a bag and then fill it with rice and something like essential oil or herbs. I don't remember if I added essential oil (would have been lavender, I think) or just the herb I got (marjoram, I think) that was supposed to help for pain. Then sew up the open end. They are the kind you heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds.

When you have had problems with your glasses right away like that, have you had the prescription verified by the optometrist? I know that friends of mine and my dad when he was living had the optical place really blow it on the prescription. I don't remember where my dad went, though supposed to be a good place. Anne had a couple places blow it with her prescription and make her glasses wrong and another friend had some made wrong. I can't remember where he said he went but he said he'd never go there again (actually, I think it was One-Hour at the time). Anne went to Walmart one time and one of the places that is always advertising the BOGO programs. I did have my prescription turn out bad within less than a month once (one day), but that was when I found out I had diabetes a month later and that affects vision.

Linda, I am also glad that your eye doctor s getting you taken care ofwith your eyes. emoticon And I too, understand the glasses cost. More then $300.00 is a lot of money to spend for something that is not going to last for even a year. Like Carol, it was only 2 or 3 months after I got my new glasses 3 years ago before I was again having trouble seeing. Went back to the optometrist, who said that I needed to get a stronger prescription. Which, he said, I would have to pay for again. Which, was not going to happen. It just now occurred to me, that perhaps the wrong prescription of is why I suffer with headaches all the time. emoticon

My goodness Carol, what in the world was your DH thinking?...........oh........I guess THAT was the problem...........he was NOT thinking!!! emoticon Like you, I am SO very glad that he is ok. Thank goodness the Lord was watching after him. I am very glad to hear that your feeling at least a bit better. emoticon

Fancy, I can associate with how irritating that someone such has your "friend" can be. I use to have a "friend" who would constantly tell me that optomerists were just out to get money and they would tell you that you needed glasses when you did not. I would tell her that I have had to wear glasses since I was 8 years old because I was getting headaches & could not see clearly without them. And now when I take my glasses off, EVERYTHING is blurry. She would tell me that if I would do eye exercises everyday, that my eyes would get back to 20/20 vision again. And according to her, eye exercises were putting your hand in front of your eye and taking it away, then closing your eye and opening it--doing that over and over again. I know, CRAZY!! emoticon It is one of the VERY MANY reasons why we are no longer friends.

That is wonderful that you got some stuff sold on Craig's List. emoticon I hope you will have quick success with selling the saddle. I would think that the feed store would be a good place to post it, as well as Craig's List.

Fancy, you said that you were going to make some more rice bags. What are rice bags? Are they heating pads?

Ok everyone, I'm out of here. Going to get a snack, take a shower and hit the sack.

Love you all,
emoticon

Oh wow, Carol, I'm glad your husband is okay. That was really dangerous. Glad you are starting to feel a little better.

Linda, I understand those glasses costs. I have been using my old frames for 9 years and just had lenses put in them and they have cost over $300 every time because I am so nearsighted. I wonder what they will wind up this time since the left eye is almost completely corrected for that now (not for the blind spot, though, which they can't do anything about). My one friend (the one who is always telling me what to do) cannot understand why the doctor didn't take my glasses away. Well, gee, I can't see without them with my right eye and the left eye I can't read with at a distance, so what am I supposed to do? She cannot understand that people don't have exactly the same things go on that she does, except that everything is worse for her (like her 20/40 vision with the cataract was a lot worse than my 20/700+) and she can't figure out why he doesn't do the right eye right away.

I got some flatware sold on Craigs List. I couldn't believe it. The guy contacted me within a half hour after I posted it and 2 others were interested. Usually can't get anyone to look at anything. I have tried to find another whole set, but the forks aren't there. I think I have 2 that match. Other than my college set that isn't a pattern that people wanted. I am also trying to get a saddle and bridle ready to try to sell. They won't bring much. The saddle is old and the underneath leather (not supporting) is cracked. That can probably be relined without a problem. The bridle hasn't ever been used, but needs to be conditioned. Then Anne suggested I post it at the feed store, which I hadn't even thought of.

So far what I've made in the craft classes is fragile, so I am trying to think of something that can travel. Thinking maybe I can top some kitchen towels for families and when I can lift things make some more rice bags since my friends from FL didn't get to come back here last year.

We finally got back into the 40s. Cloudy, but not snowing. The weekend is going back to the 30s, but so far they say the upper 30s. Wish it would stay warmer. Maybe I should have moved to AZ.

Good morning all. I may be a tad bit better this morning, but not much. It is a "laster" for sure. I don't want it to turn into pneumonia so am behaving, but sure am sick of being sick!

Yes, DH plans to make sure they pay for it, but he will have to do it in a "round about" way. The guy yesterday that he had out from the lumber yard knew immediately what had happened. So that's one down. DH wants 2 guys opinions besides himself (he also will have Anderson windows person come out) to back him up. He didn't say a word until the other guy stated what he knew was the cause.

Did I mention I gave him a "piece of my mind"? I don't think I did, it was yesterday afternoon and I don't think I was on since then. He should KNOW better, but just like a kid he did a REALLY stupid thing. It's windy there and really cold now. Well, when the guy was out, DH noticed that the shingle packs on the roof were tearing open in the wind and some shingles were starting to blow around. So after the guy leaves he goes up on the roof and flips them over so they can't tear open. No phone with him, no one around, and we live on a road only we will be on, all the neighbors are on the road below us so no one will drive past at all. The wind blew the ladder down so now he's trapped up there. He said it took him a half hour to get up the nerve to jump, he was afraid of breaking his back or something. Gads, did I tell him what I thought!!! He knew he deserved it and then some! Could have killed himself. Whew, I am so thankful he is ok.

Linda, I also need new glasses. My one eye changed right after I bought the new ones last time 2-3 yrs. ago. I mean within about 2 months. I was not happy. Been putting it off as it's one more expense. But I really need new ones. Glad you have a good eye dr. that knows what she is doing with all your issues. I think I will be going to America's Best as they have the cheapest prices. The last dr. I had there seemed to be really good so hopefully they are.

Starr, I am so glad you and your son are getting "re-acquainted" again. Such a good thing.

Well, laundry is done, time to go put it in the dryer.

Good Morning everyone, how re you doing today? How are you feeling, Carol? Getting any better yet?
I agree with Starr, Carol, those carpenters should be responsible for the windows that they broke. That wasn't too smart of them. I feel so bad for Robert, this stress is way too much for him.
Well, I went for my eye appointment yesterday. it was a annual appointment but I haven't been for 2 years so I was due. My vision was worse so she has changed my prescription. I am nearsighted. I knew it had changed because I have been having a hard time. I didn't do well on the optic nerve test. She asked me is I recently had another stroke or a TIA , my DH told her no, but then I remembered what my neurosurgeon just told me a few weeks ago about the seizure activity I am having so I told her about that. she had me do another test and I did okay with that one but she is having me go back in a couple of weeks to repeat another optic nerve test and if she is not happy with the results, she is going to contact my doctor to let him know. Funny how things all seem to tie into each other. I get my new glasses in a couple of weeks. My DH has insurance where he works so that is good, the frames were free but the lenses cost us like around $300. Don't know what it cost at the eye doctor appointment. Funny too because I messed up the appointment, it was suppose to be today and we went last night, lucky for us they were able to squeeze us in after all.

Hope everyone has a good day, I am going to lie down for a little bit, I have a headache right now.

Talk to you all later,

Hugs,

Danlin

Carol, don't feel bad. But I sure do understand your aggravation. Some times I get that no "html" code too, usually after I have written a long post. No matter what I do, I can't get it to post. emoticon

Wow!! The carpenters broke 18 out of 25 of your new windows? How awful. THEY should have to pick up the tab to replace them!! I sure do hope that you and Robert are not having to pay for new ones again. emoticon

I agree with Linda Carol, it is bad enough you being sick. But you definetly do NOT want your dad to get sick.

Linda, Tammy is very excited to be in the Christmas emoticon play this year. She was in it the year before last year, but because of Alan being in the hospital (and all of us taking turns staying with him 24/7 from the later part of November till the end of December) she was not able to go to any of the practices last year. She was jumping up and down and all over the place at church when the young adult who is directing the play asked her if she wanted to be in the play this year. I though that Tammy was going to break Mandi's neck, she was hugging her so hard!

I have a friend at church who has 4 girls (the oldest is around 11) who is finally pregnant with a baby boy. She and her DH have been trying for a boy since their 2nd DD was born. Can you imagine having 4 girls before finally getting a boy? She told me that she is more then ready to stop having children after this one is born. emoticon Who was due last week. emoticon Her DH thinks that the little one is waiting to be born on Thanksgiving. emoticon

Fancy, I do understand your not understand all the "stitches" (I know that's not what their called) in knitting. I've tried several times in the past few years to learn how to knit. But I have always been so totally unsuccessful. And in the past I have had people tell me that, although a lot of people who can crochet can also knit, a lot of people who can crochet cannot knit. THAT'S ME!! I can crochet up a storm, but forget about knitting. emoticon

Ok all you beautiful ladies, I am getting off of here. Got some things that I need to do before Tammy gets home.

Linda, I don't need to buy supplies for the classes since they are supplied. The problem is wanting to do more at home and I don't have the stuff to do it there. I don't know if any of my liquid paints are liquid anymore, but can use them if they are. Not too sure what I can put stuff on though.

Starr, I learned my crocheting from books, but some directions I have had problems understanding. After my cancer surgery they had a group at church that met weekly to make prayer shawls and I was able to learn from one of the ladies there when I got stumped on the patterns. It is too bad that they don't have anything like that there anymore. Of course, it is pretty far for me to drive to all the time. There also aren't that many people in our church, so not many who were that anxious to do crochet or knit. The libraries are once a month, I think, but not all have crochet. I am wondering about going to one to try the knitting again because I can't understand how to cast on the correct way even following the learn to knit book.

The cooking thing isn't really a class to learn to cook since none of the libraries have facilities for that. It is more a tasting thing where you learn about different things and then you get the recipes to take home and make. I had given her my email and got a couple of the recipes sent to me, but might have to go to the class if I want recipes this time.

Carol, the Paint with Paper uses the Mod Podge like glue so that it dries clear. That I might be able to work with after the class if I have any cardboard to put the papers on. I know she uses that really light weight paper and magazine pages, things like that. I suppose if one wants something less see-thru they can use construction paper, too.

Yesterday I decided to make chili since it was so cold. Since I've been trying to figure out and try different ways of making the chili I decided to use part of the butternut squash and add to the chili (I did see a recipe for chili with butternut squash, just wasn't looking at it when I threw the squash in). It turned out pretty good, just adding a little sweet taste in there when eating where the squash was along with the spicy taste of the chili. It is still cold here, so I'll be finishing the chili and then making soup again.

OK, going to try again...

I had a whole post typed and then SP wouldn't let me post no matter what I did. It said no "html" whatever that is. I had done nothing different so something got messed up.

I can't remember what I had typed, I know I had something to Starr and to Darlene. Forgive me, I'm not up to doing it all again.

Linda, he will be emptying and winterizing the trailer. No more water for him. :(

They (carpenters) damaged 18 of 25 windows, (hammer hits chipped away/out the vinyl) to the point the warranty would not be in place. So now he has that issue to deal with. He didn't sleep all Sat. night. What a mess.

Forgot I had saved it and emailed it to myself. So here's that post...
Nope, it still won't let me post it. Weird. It will post now, just not that post...

Starr, that is to bad that you didn't get to see your son but that is awesome that your daughter is going to be in the Christmas play, she must be so excited about that, huh? I am very happy to hear that you are communicating with your son on a regular basis.
Darlene, these classes are so good for you, just too bad that the supplies cost you extra money that you don't always have. Maybe someone at the library would have some of the stuff you need because they no longer do the crafts. Like when I gave up my rubber stamping hobby, I sold all my supplies at a really inexpensive price. I basically gave all my stuff away.

Carol, I am so glad that Robert was able to save your pipes from freezing. Is he going to put something on them so he doesn't have to worry about it happening again? You sure don't need any more problems. I am praying for you to get better, Carol, I am worried about you. Please make sure you take care of yourself and try to stay away from Dad. Don't need him to come down with it.

Have a nice Monday everyone

Hugs & love,

Good morning all my sweet lady friends emoticon

My weekend was ok, but seemed, as usual, to go by way too quickly.

Linda, no, we did not go to my sons for a meal this weekend, as my youngest is going to be in my churches Christmas play this year, and the play practice is Sunday afternoon. So I have to take her and pick her up. Since DeWayne lives 30 minutes away, it is too much driving back and forth for me to be out there with him and be running back & forth into town for Tammy's play practice. But he and I talk and/or text on the phone just about everyday. emoticon

Like Carol, I also thought that Kings was a grocery store.

emoticon Carol. emoticon We love you. emoticon I am also so glad that DH was able to save your pipes from freezing. You all are spending enough money, without having to replace frozen pipes.

Hay, have you gained custody of Hank yet? I am curious to find out how he is going to respond/act with you & DH for longer then a week.

Last month I found out about a crochet class at my local library. Oldest DD and I went to it. We really enjoyed it. But it is only 45 minutes long once a month. That is not long enough for anything. We requested to the leader if it was possible to maybe make it at least an hour to an hour and a half twice a month. She said that she would have to get with the activities director of the library, who wont be available till after the first of the year, and see what she thinks. We did not have a class this month because of Thanksgiving and will not have a class next month because of Christmas. Really, I do not see why the class dates for November & December could not have been moved up or back a day or two (or even a week) and still have the classes in these two months. emoticon emoticon

But at church yesterday oldest DD though about asking the Pastor's wife if she would put a note out in the foyer (that is where our church puts all their notes to the congregation and any readings that folks may be interested in knowing about) asking if anyone might be interested in starting a weekly crocheting group......if so, sign name and what day is best for you. Besides DD & myself, we know of at least 4 others in our church who crochet. So, we will see how that goes.

ok, I need to go tend to housework and get me a snack. Love you all.

emoticon

Darlene, I wish I were feeling better and am so VERY thankful about those pipes too!!!
Still not feeling so hot. Managed to get a couple of things done yesterday, dishes, bath, etc. That about did me in.

It is cold here too, we got a touch more snow yesterday. Just enough to make a mess on the driveway when people drive on it. :(

Yes, those punches are expensive. I've looked at them before. I know what you mean. When you like doing something you want to do more and that takes more $. I think the cooking class sounds like fun to do with a group. Wonder what the painting with paper will be doing that will use mod podge. You can make your own mod podge you know too, if you need to in future. I've seen it on the internet.

No news, just feeling lousy... Hope you all have a good day and had a good weekend.

Carol, I'm glad your pipes in the trailer were saved. Wish you were feeling better. I have done that and thought it was a different day when I woke up. Then when you wake up and it is night time when you figure it should be day time you really wonder what has happened. Or the other way around. Then there are the times when you are just so tired you think you have missed something because of sleeping through it.

It is still cold here so I have stayed in the house except for letting Cassie out. Have drank tea and hot chocolate and eaten chili trying to stay warm. The sun is far enough west that it isn't coming in the window anymore to warm things up.

Linda, I do enjoy those classes. The only problem is I want some of the things that we use in them and I can't afford them. From yesterday I want some of those punches we were using. Those things are expensive, though. From the one where we did "plants in glass" I would like to get some of those colored sands. Then I would need some of the little animals or whatever to go in there and moss and maybe little fake plants. Yeah, that would save me some money. I already got some of the Mod Podge from the first class. I'm not too sure what I will use to put things on, though. This week we have Make Ahead Thanksgiving Dishes, Painting with Paper (that will use the Mod Podge), and Wreath Making. The first one I might skip. I will get the recipes over the internet, no doubt.

Hope everyone gets to feeling better.

I kind of thought Kings was a grocery. I know of Kroeger. My ex was a grocery store manager for many years.

I am still ill, spent nearly all day in bed yesterday. Woke up last night around 8pm and thought it was early morning! Took me a bit to get oriented. This bug is a "laster" so it will take a bit to get over it, but I'm working on it. :)

DH got to our property just in time to save the trailer from having freezing pipes. Thank heavens. We were worried so today I am just one very thankful girl.

Have a wonderful day ladies. Hugs (germless kind!)

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I had a surprise visit from my youngest DD and her family later in the afternoon. we ordered out Chinese food and played games all afternoon and evening. we had a real nice time. My grandson's who are teenagers played with Jasper and really tired him out. He is still pretty tired today.

Darlene, I am glad you have those classes at the library, they really sound so interesting and you seem to get some good ideas from them.

Carol, I am so sorry to hear that you are still not feeling well, I hope you start seeing some improvement soon. Just get as much rest as you can, okay?

How are you doing, Starr? Hope everything is going well for you? Will you be going to your DS for dinner today?

Hope everyone has a Blessed day.

Hugs,

Danlin

King's is a Kroger company store. That is the largest chain in Colorado. The west slope it is City Market. I looked it up and it is Kroger in Arkansas, but no stores in MN. I went to one of the newer stores for their Holiday Open House, which usually has samples of all sorts of things, and they had a sample of Honey Baked Ham (actually the turkey) and one of some mashed potatoes. Rats. I was really getting hungry by that point, too, cause I rushed out of here to get to a craft class and didn't have breakfast. Turned out I had the wrong time on the class, so I went and did my shopping and then went back to the class. No worry about anything going bad today since it was 14 when I left here and that was the highest it got. It's 9 now.

The craft class today we made jewelry from beer and soda cans. There is one brand of beer that had some really nice pictures on the can. I made a ring and two hair pins and a pin. I have the parts for 2 pairs of earrings, but didn't get them finished. Next time they are doing earrings and a gift tag with corks. The lady was wearing her earrings from the corks and they were pretty nice. They decoupage pictures onto the cork for the design. I wish I had found out about it earlier, though. Last time they made ceramic tiles that looked really nice.

The darning/embroidery foot is what I was thinking of that I have for embroidery on my sewing machine. I think I also have a walking foot. When I was trying to do things last year with it I couldn't find any of my parts so had to buy some. Then went to put it away and the box with the parts was right there in the case. I just don't understand things that happen around here sometimes. I can't do anything with that for a few weeks because of my eye. I am hoping I didn't hurt it when I got home today because I tried opening the garage door. I got it part way up, but after that it was definitely too heavy so I had to call Pete and ask him to open it. Just too cold and too much stuff to haul it around to the back of the garage one to two packages at a time.

Carol, I sure hope that you will be feeling better soon. Maybe chicken soup would help?

Really sick today. Darlene, is King's a grocery? I have a 1971 (or maybe '70) Singer Touch and Sew. I can find parts for it online. Got a walking foot and a darning/embroidery foot for it. Crossing my fingers they work now. They are for a number of machines, mine is listed so they should.

Hope you all are feeling better than I do today.

Carol, what kind of sewing machine do you have? Min is hard to find parts for, but there is one store here in town that has them. I think all the parts are the same now as they were then. I have a 1971 Bernina (the small one with a free arm). It has the ability to do embroidery, but you have to be able to control it pretty well since it isn't machine controlled for that. I'm not good enough to do that.

Haven't done much of anything today. Checked out the ads and found some things on sale for eating, so I went grocery shopping to one store for some good sale prices.

Tomorrow I may try for another craft class. I am not sure I can find the library it is at, though. Then will go to Kings and see what they have at their holiday open house and what they have on sale.

A quick hello. I now have DH's bug and just feel awful. Have to take dad to his lab work today, but otherwise I think I'll be in bed. I think it may be the same bug my DD had about 4 wks. ago when they came for the day. DH wasn't here, so don't know where he picked it up, plus that was a long while ago. I didn't get it then, but she may not have been contagious by that point either. She'd had it awhile. DH came home feeling fine, gave me the bug, then got sick. LOL. It is just lasting forever, it did with DD also. It's a bad one.

No news. Have to try and find a foot for my sewing machine. I asked my Craftsy instructor and she said it most definitely should have a foot even tho my manual says you do it without one. I could tell, it seemed like it needed one. Now to figure out what one would work. My machine is old, from the early 70's so I have no where to go to ask. :(

Darlene, I am so glad you found those library classes so you can get out and have some fun.

Just wanted to check in and say good morning to everyone, hope you all have a wonderful day. I want to get a few things done around here today so I want to get started early. I am hoping that I don't fall asleep on the couch like I do sometimes.

Hope you have a great weekend, I am hoping to go out and do some more Christmas shopping this weekend.

Hugs,

Linda, I'm glad that your pins and needles are easing up. Hope the headaches will go away soon, too.

Carol, sorry to hear that your DH is not feeling well.

I just got back from the craft class at the library. The thing we were doing went really fast, so I got 3 made, walked around and looked at the ones other people were making. Everyone was able to make at least 2 or three. I did one in a rose bowl, one in a tall glass vase and one in a little jar that looks like something tempera paint comes in. The two larger ones have a little bird in them along with the moss and feathers, sand, soil and rock. The little one has a little dinosaur. Next week is painting with paper.

My eye is really scratchy today. I think I might have to put my guard on early. It also itches in one corner. Driving me crazy.

Darlene, I am so happy that your surgery is now behind you and everything went so well You must be so relieved too.
Carol, hope Robert feels better soon. It is probably from all that he has been going through with the house. He probably got himself run down and made himself sick. good thing he has you to take good care of him Is he home or in Ark?

The pins & needles feelings in my left hand seems to be calming down so I guess the doctor was right. I am still having some headaches though. We will be increasing the medicine again in 3 weeks.

Hope everyone is having a great Thursday.

Hugs,
Danlin

WooHoo, it went great for you Darlene. Now aren't you glad you did it, and all that worrying about being awake for nothing. ;) So glad it went well for you.

Just a quick good morning. Have to take Gracie in to have her stitches out in a little while. Spent nearly all day yesterday looking at/deciding on faucets and toilets. Fun... not. LOL.

The Bible verse for the week is posted. Check it out.
Hope you all have a good day today. My DH is sick, whatever it is it is hanging on for days and days. Poor guy.

I am back from my post surgery check. The tech took the patch off and WOW, what a difference. I still have a blind spot in the middle where the hole was in the macula, but I could read the writing on the tech's shirt with no problem and no glasses. Trying to read letters on the eye chart didn't work too well because of that blind spot. But the other one that they had I could read pretty far down on the chart (it was close enough to see around the blind spot. If I needed the right eye done, I wouldn't need glasses at all, though thy don't completely get rid of the near sightedness.

My sauerbraten didn't turn out too bad. I wouldn't use as much onion as they called for again and I would cut the meat to smaller pieces (maybe sliced) before adding it back to making the sauce because it calls to add enough water to cover and that made it too watery. Otherwise it seemed to be pretty good.

Quick hello. Just wanted to stop in and see if Darlene had checked in and how she was doing. Glad it's all over and hopefully you are in a quick and easy recovery... we'll pray for that. Hugs.

Darlene, glad to hear that it seems like everything went well for you. Please just take it easy today, you deserve it. Let us know what the doctor says when you go back to him.

Hugs,
Danlin

Well, got through everything. Got back home probably around 1:00 after stopping to pick up lunch. Probably left the hospital around 11:30. Had to argue with the nurses again on the IV. They admitted they had all the information from the pre-surgery guy (and the clinic), but they still were not going to do what they were told and just do it their own way. I even told her which vein would probably work and which definitely wouldn't and she was trying to get the one that collapses now. She tried to tell me that they only have 22 or 20 gauge needles (they were going to do the 22 g), when they have the 24 g in all the drawers there. Then when I had to go potty I said something about with all the liquid yesterday I had to go every 15 min yesterday and she told me they weren't going to let me get off the surgery table to go to the bathroom. Well, duh, does she really think I was going to try to do that?! The other people were all pretty nice. I did have to ask for the stuff to calm me down, though. Even that is only given to you if you ask. But when they were deadening my eye and around I asked for them to use a lot (extra) of it to make sure my eye actually got deadened and they did that. It has been awake for a long time now, though, and it burns. Have to go in tomorrow at 11:00 to see how things are doing.

We had the blustering high of 16 today. It is supposed to go down to about 5 below to 0 tonight. Is only 7 now. I am cold.

My sauerbraten is almost done. Going off my diet a little, cause we are having some potatoes with it. So will let you know in a little bit how that turned out. I don't really remember a sauce like this mushroom/onion/ginger snap one on any I have ever had, but will find out.

That's all that has gone on here. Both Anne and I took naps after we got home, me with a cat on me and a dog by my feet.

Thanks all for your prayers.
