So sorry, Topaz, that you've had this bad experience. How about trying looking online for RLS/WEB and see what is usually prescribed and the possible side-effects BEFORE using them. I'm very sensitive to Rxs and have to be extremely careful. Sometimes, it's just not meant to be.

Hope you get some relief soon, sweetie.

Like you, I too am experiencing mid-day RLS. Really, I am beginning to think that no one really knows much about RLS. I know my neurologist and primary doctor admitted that it is something the medial field does not know much about.

I ordered the Butcher's Broom, Cat Claw and Lion Mane. I will let you know how it works. My nights have been almost sleep less. I am wondering if my going to counseling and having to bring up my painful childhood has something to do with things.

Hi! I have been on a much needed break and now back. All the stress in my life is really causing my RLS to get worse. Was up most of last night walking, then I finally took a warm shower and helped a lot.

Hi everyone!

So glad to see new members on our team and talking picking up!

My RLS hasn't been too bad lately. I really notice it for some reason when the seasons change. Right now it seems like as long as I take my pill on time (and I just looked at the clock and realized I'm late!) I seem to do okay most nights.

I'm still not sleeping well though. Having problems with Cpap machine. I don't think the pressure is right but insurance refuses to pay for new sleep study and I can't afford the $1150.00 bill. So just struggling along. A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with Diabetes. So now I'm trying to learn how to deal with it and again insurance is giving me hassles on paying for the class my Dr. wants me to take to help manage it. I will find out on Monday if insurance is going to cover any of it. Trying not to worry about it but not doing well with all of that right now. So losing sleep over that new stress. Plus next Monday I start working 4-10 hour days at work. Just dreading it. I'm on vacation this week or would have started already. Glad it's only for the summer.

I have the sleep apnea problem too. Plus, RA, MS and Fibromyalgia. To be honest, I do not know what it is like not to have pain anymore. So I keep involved with things I love: children, gardening, raising chickens and doing arts and crafts.

However, right now my stress level is high. My sister is battling cancer, my husband is not taking his bipolar medicine and my 13 year old daughter is very disrespectful to me. No, I am NOT looking for sympathy. I am looking however, for any ideas that you may use to relax yourself. All these stresser are part of life that I cannot avoid. I just want to know how to better cope with them. So any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I take the generic one too. Thanks for your ideas, just recently I started drinking this organic tea that has chamomile in it. That helped too.

Having my legs uncovered doesn't seem to bother me one way or another.

I have two friends in my Bible Study who are affected by this also. One friend has it even worse then me. I thought mine was pretty bad.

Interesting that both our Drs. advised us to go off the pills. I didn't try that. I couldn't imagine what would happen and I have to get up and go to work. I also have Sleep Apnea so that is a double whammy for me. For right now the two pills is working best for me.

I do have nights where I don't sleep much at all and it's pretty miserable. I wouldn't wish this disease on my worst enemy! :)

Shirley, I take the generic brand. Like you two pills when it is really. My doctor said the same thing. Well, I tried going without which meant not sleeping for me. At night I take some warm milk with a little honey or camomile tea. This relaxes me.

Also, I have to keep my legs covered at night, even when it is very hot out. I wear long silk under garment leggings plus socks. Sometimes I put bengay on my legs. However, my husband and children cannot stand the odor. So I am looking for another product.

It is very hard for me at night to sit sometimes. All I do is walk until I get very tired.

Welcome to this team! I have suffered with RLS since I was a child and it has progressively gotten worse with age. I do take Mirapex, but still have a lot of bad nights. I sometimes have to take 2 pills at night to control it. Some other things I have tried is hot chocolate, made with real milk, I know cocoa has caffeine in it but it somehow relaxes me. I get up and walk around, try and read to distract myself. If it isn't too bad I will try and take 2 Advil and that sometimes helps too. I have also noticed mine is really bad whenever the seasons change. I know that sounds ridiculous but I have noticed it the last couple of years then it calms down until we change seasons again.

I was complaining to my Dr. one day that I was having more and more problems, her answer was maybe I just needed to come off the pills altogether. I know I must have looked at her like she's lost her mind, I was thinking I would never sleep at all then. So we kind of compromised and I am taking 2 pills when it's really bad. It seems to help.

Do you have any new ideas? I'm open to anything.

Shirley

Hey Gigi,
My RLS has gotten somewhat better. The change in seasons really makes me miserable, so since we have gotten through that I have been better.

I have two friends who have RLS and they said on days when they have a lot of sweets that they suffer a lot with it. I hadn't put two and two together before, so will watch it to see if it affects me the same way. Since my RLS is better I am sleeping better too which is good.

Hope you are doing well.

Shirley

Hi Shirla! So sorry to hear about your RLS flaring up so bad.....weird.....mine too! It is almost every night now for about the last three weeks. It's crazy! I did put a bar of soap under my bottom sheet at my feet again and for some reason, it helps. Not sure why, but it does.

My husband also bought me a Tens unit (electronic stimulation). That is suppose to help a lot too. I'll let you know as I have not tried it yet as we just got it Friday.

Hope you feel better soon! Great to hear from you!

Hi Gigi,

So good to hear from you!
I have a lot of stressful things going on in my life right now, trying to not let it affect my new healthier eating. Oh so hard, I'm such an emotional eater.

I've been having so many problems with the RLS for a couple of months now. So bad that most nights I am having to take 2 pills which I hate to do. I have been noticing that it seems like I have more problems when the weather starts to change.

Hope things are going well for you!
Shirley

Hi Gigi,
I'm doing fine. We work 10 hour days at work during the summer, eating lunch at our desks while we work and get Fridays off, it's a tough adjustment. About the time I get adjusted to this we will go back to our old schedule in August! Can't wait!
Hope your move is going well.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Just trying to concentrate on Physical Therapy and getting back to normal. I finished Physical Therapy last week, now I have to keep up the routine at home. But, I am doing much better, thanks for asking.

Have been suffering more and more with the RLS. UGH! Lots of sleepless nights.. Medicine just doesn't seem to be able to control it as well as before.

Hope you are doing well!
Shirley

Hi Gigi,
Sorry I've been gone for so long, I had knee replacement surgery on Dec. 10th and recovery has been rough, to top it all off I went back to work last week and needless to say it was a very tough week! Today was a little better. I am busy with exercising at home and Physical Therapy twice a week. I come home and collapse most days!

The good news is I haven't had any issues with the RLS since surgery! Wish it would last.

Hope you are doing well.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.

I am glad I am here for you and will help as best I can. The rest of the team has kind of ducked out for a while, I guess. I haven't heard from any team members aside from you in weeks.

Wow! Goes to prove we all have different RLS triggers! When my feet or legs get too cold, I have bad RLS symptoms, usually all night. To answer your question about exercise....increasing my exercise has helped minimize my symptoms quite a bit. Walking is fabulous; at least 15-30 minutes continuous walking helps me the most. I have also been running, but if you have a bad knee, that is probably out of the questions. About the Fibromyalgia.......RLS usually accompanies it. I would see a doctor to verify, but this has been my experience.

Hope you are feeling and sleeping well. Regards!

Hey Gigi. Thanks! I have suffered alone for so long, it feels great to finally have folks to talk to about RLS. I take generic mirapex every night just to remain sane. I have also found that cold helps stop the pain. I do have severe pain with my RLS and have wondered if I might not have fibromylgia. Have you found that exercise helps your symptoms? Just curious if I step up the exercise if it will help or hinder my RLS. I know that my diabetes will benefit but my knee will pay. Thanks for making me feel welcome. I appreciate your hospitality!

Welcome DAYATBEACH! So happy to have you on our team. We are here for you, cheering you on every step of the way! Be sure to check out some of our other message boards to learn some of the different remedies we've tried to ease our RLS symptoms. We would love to hear of any remedies you have tried as well. Sounds like you have had it for a long time. I am blessed to have only been diagnosed this passed summer (I am 49).

If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask!

Best wishes on reaching your goals in 2013!

Hi everyone. I am new to this team. I have had RLS since college (will be 47 this year). My RLS has gotten worse over the years to the point I can't sit still for long periods of time. I have it in my arms and legs. I have been known to walk outside in the cold snow in my pjs just to get relief. Recently I have come to think that my pain comes from neuropathy in addition to the RLS. I think when I eat too many carbs later at night, I suffer. I have fallen into a vicious cycle that when I don't get enough sleep, I have no energy to exercise or even think about fixing something healthy to eat. I grab the easiest, most convenient thing and go to bed because I am so tired. On top of all of that, I have been working a part time job that changes my shifts every day. I've been on my feet for at least 5 and a half hours each shift so I am tired. Plus the stress of my financial situation (haven't been able to find a full time job in a year!) has put me into a severe depression. I think it is all connected and spiralling.

Hi Gigi, congratulations on losing 29 pounds! What an accomplishment! emoticon emoticon

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, just been busy and sick. I am feeling better but the illness is messing with my blood count and if it doesn't go back down to normal this week (I am going to the Dr. for more blood work today) my surgery will be canceled.

It's a pretty serious surgery. I will be in the hospital for 3 to 4 days, then I will start P/T. They get you up and start P/T the very next day after surgery. P/T can get pretty grueling, that's the hardest part of the whole surgery. I had the best P/T person last time, I hope I get someone like that again, she was very hands on and I could see a big difference. P/T goes on for about 6-8 weeks. I did great that last time I had this done and am expecting the same this time.

Hope everyone is doing well. Need to check on Renie, hope she is okay. Haven't heard from her in a long time!

Keep working hard Gigi!
Shirley

Hi Shirley,

Thanks for your quick reply! I heard from Betty a couple of weeks ago. She says she hasn't had time to be on the site. I think Renie is still is a Nursing Home and has limited access to a computer. We have lots of members, but maybe this is a good sign that they are feeling well and have no RLS symptoms these days.

Sorry you are struggling so with your RLS. I have been blessed as since I put that bar of soap under my bottom sheet at my feet, I have not had any symptoms. I do think the magnesium supplements and running helps too!

Also sorry to hear about your sinus infection. I will keep you in my prayers. I bet you want to get that knee taken care of. What will your surgery consist of?

My grandson has a yucky head and chest cold right now. I am his caregiver when his mom works so I've been exposed. I can't afford to get sick as I have 5 singing engagements coming up. One on the 9th in which I am also one of the main actors in our Children's musical, one on the 16th, and two on Christmas Eve. My grandmother is in Hospice and is not expected to make it til Christmas. My mom wants me to sing 2 songs at her memorial service. Not sure when that will be yet. All of the songs require my vocals to be in tip top shape, so I have been taking AirBorne and Echinacea too and wearing gear to keep my head and core warm when I run in the early mornings. So far, so good.

I hope you have a blessed day! Take care of you!

~Gigi

Hi Gigi,

I was wondering where everyone has been too?

I've been really busy with work since going back after the holiday. Then I came down with a sinus infection, and I am scheduled to have knee replacement surgery on Dec. 10th. But if I don't get over this infection and get my white blood cell count back down to normal I guess they will cancel it. Just trying to hang in there. I was trying so hard not to get sick!

I've been having a terrible time with RLS lately. I don't know what it is, it is starting to act up earlier and earlier in the evenings and I find myself taking my pill earlier. It's a vicious cycle.

I hope the rest of the team members are doing well.
Talk to you later. Shirley

How is everyone?

I'm feeling kind of lonely on this team lately. We have 133 members and only about 5 who are active. I'm still going to stick around!

I miss hearing from you! Hope all is well!

Still no appetite and a bit of an earache from sinus allergies today. Other than that I can't complain. I still managed to get a 45 minute run in.

I am having a good day too! Mostly because I slept really well last night, I don't sleep well at all any night and compound that with RLS and Sleep Apnea and using a CPap machine it just isn't condusive to sleep. Anyway after not sleeping well at all for about the last four nights I gave in and took something to help me sleep. Wow! Knocked me out and boy did I sleep straight through from 10 till 5:30, didn't even hear the alarm go off, I am usually awake by 4:30. So wish I could sleep like that every night. Glad you are having a good day too Gigi, hope you are sleeping well!

So... It is going on midnight and I am up again, my legs are aching and I am just miserable. I took my pill on time tonight and wondering why it isn't working. I just want to sleep! I am trying my old stand by - hot chocolate, to see if that will help any. I am wondering if any of this has to do with the fact that it is supposed to start raining on Monday and another cold front is coming. I hope everyone else is having a better night then me! We love you too Renie. So glad that you checked in and that you are doing okay. It is so good to hear that you are in a wonderful facility that is taking such good care of you and meeting your needs. What a relief it must have been to find out you don't have Alzheimers. I hope they can get your pain under control soon. Hang in there. I am praying for you! Hugs! Shirley

As you might have noticed, I haven't been checking in each day. I'm sure you are aware I'm in a nursing home, getting some much needed care. Super facility, and spectacular staff. I couldn't ask for more. I also did my Brain Mapping to see if I had Alzheimers. I don't, thank the dear Lord. It is both the pain I'm in as well as the pain meds I take for it. Who knew? The doc will set up some physical therapy I can do and pychological counseling for a better way to deal with the pain.

Love you all,
Renie

No Gigi, you didn't make it worse. Our dept. at work keeps getting smaller and smaller and there is a hiring freeze and looking like even more budget cuts, they just laid off over 400 people this summer. I am now doing the work of 3 and a half people. Just wondering when it is all going to end? I just keep praying that there are no more cuts, I will be one of the first to go unfortunately, I was just hired back a year ago after being laid off for 14 months. Just don't want to do the unemployment thing again!

Plus DH job is stressing him out and driving me crazy. With surgery and holidays coming up, I am just feeling very overwhelmed right now. But I will get through this. Trying to stay on track the best I can right now. So basically just hanging in there and taking it one day at a time.

Hope you are having a great evening too!
Shirley

Okay, now you scared me, Shirley! Lol.....sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed. I didn't mean to make it worse, so I hope I didn't.

I will pray for your upcoming surgery and also that you will be able to accomplish all that you need to prior to.

I think a thread about our Thanksgiving is a fabulous idea!

Have a great evening!

Gigi, Yes, you scared me! Just kidding! Been going through a lot of stuff at work lately is why I have been so quiet, and have been very busy at home too. My surgery date is coming up faster then I want it to. Kind of feeling overwhelmed with the holidays coming so fast too.

I have been sleeping pretty good lately. As long as I remember to take those pills on time, I do pretty good.

Maybe we should start a thread about what we are thankful for until Thanksgiving, just a suggestion. I have a lot to be thankful for, just need to be reminded sometimes. :)

Hope you have a great evening.

Still having trouble sleeping through the night...don't know what's going on, but I tell you since I have put that bar of soap underneath my bottom mattress sheet, I have had no RLS symptoms. So, no complaints here!

Hope you are all doing well! I am missing hearing from you!
