Loved your post Elsie. Missed your poem, Doris. The potato that showed some green leaves was put in a bucket full of leaves which I was planning to make in leaf compost. So once if I get any potatoes will not have to dig them out.

Bon Jour!

Today is Bastille Day for the French and us francophiles!

Betty..What a nice way of looking at this,,cocoons who eventually will be butterflies!
Elsie..sounds like you had a nice birthday! Rosie..yes to the masks,Dr. says they help droplets from going out into the air.
Nas..planting the potato parts sounds interesting. I have a long balcony which is filled with about 14 pots now, but maybe next year!
Leona, Thanks for the websites, I will get back to you after I look into them.
Frances and Carney, I admire writers. Best to you on the endeavors.
Doris, We do like the poems and I especially love the descriptions about your hubby, the businesses, and oh,,the cakes!

Todays Adventure. 8 A.M. appointment in Periodontist office. First doctor or dentist visit this year.
1. Call From parking lot to announce I'm there.
2. Answer COVID questions again (I answered them over the phone yesterday>) Sign the paper and have temperature checked. Get a special mask they handed me.
3. Greet my dental hygienist with whom I have a special relationship as she lived near where I worked and childhood friends with those I knew as coworkers. She was dressed from head to foot with PPE of course masked.
4. Rinse mouth with a special rinse. View some special air cleaning machine near the chair.
5. 45 minutes of cleaning and an dental inspection by the head Dr.
6. Say Goodby, pay the bill, they added an extra $15 for PPE, Grand total $195. emoticon emoticon

Dixie it is far from a bore. It is nice to see something soothing with all the bad stuff going on.

Well, for lunch my stir fry was spinach, onion, roasted red pepper, mushrooms, zucchini, chicken, string beans and gravy.

Sometimes, I ad pasta. It is a change once in a while from meat.

Hello, only a quick check in..
Everyone seems busy and basically satisfied to adhere to all warnings and that is very good.

I believe I will abstain from poetry today. I do believe you are finding it a bore

Off to get busy...Doris emoticon

Nas I planted the potato spuds and got potatoes in the fall and had to did them up. Rosie I think it is even a chore now to brush my teeth 3 times a day. LOL But I still do it. I guess you have to be in the mood to do stuff these days. Some days I can go through the house and other times not.

Yesterday, I started to work a little on changing some stuff on my novel before I send it out again.

I notice my email is different this morning. I had when Comcast changes stuff. I do not like it as I can not read some on the end and I can not find anything whereas before I could to get that stuff to show.

Then they come on with the indemnification stuff which is also a pain.

Another day of rain coming this afternoon.

Had a good day yesterday. Last night Ben Gay and I went to bed. This morning Ben Gay and I got up. If I do not put BG on then I am hurting most of the day. So I have learned it is better to put it on when I wake up so I can move around with less pain.

Good Morning everyone,

Donna, I will have to find that book and read it. I know it would turn on the light in many parts of the play.

Happy birthday Elsie: Sorry I am late but the wishes are sincerely emoticon

Frances: I bet you will learn a lot while you write this book. I admire your effforts..

I think if we all listen to the doctors and scientists and do as they say, wear the mask, wash our hands and social distance, we will beat this virus a lot faster. After we are all enclosed in our own cocoons over all these months, I hope we all emerge beautiful butterflies.

Another beautiful day for us today before all the heat and humidity comes back.

Smiles, Betty :)

Good morning, all.

Mary Lou- The link did not work. I get her emails so I will check her site.

NAS-How fun. My daughter also has planted potatoes and they are really growing.

FOX & Friends had such an inspiring piece this morning. A woman has taken a job as a dishwasher at her husband's assisted living place so she can be near him. He has dementia. emoticon to both of them.

Elsie- That is one of the sweetest pictures you have posted. emoticon Glad you had a nice day.

Frances- I give you high marks for doing this book. You and Camey are go-getters.

Whew what a day! I did get a fair amount of writing done - early in the day. Then I got texts from someone who is looking over my rough draft - telling me of some ooooopsies I had made. Things not obvious to someone of my age - as in: models today get training over instagram and such, rather than traditional training. And young professionals don't carry "briefcases" they carry (classy-looking) totes that hold laptops. I said maybe I should write a book about traveling in a covered wagon since I'm out-of-touch with today's world. LOL. Well, that's why we use BETA readers - to catch things like that. So now I'm going to rely on my granddaughters for advice when writing about young people, I think. I've already had to consult with them about current dialogue. Details!!

If that wasn't excitement enough, I got a long email from a California cousin who had lots of questions and - even better - some information and pictures regarding one of my genealogy stories. Putting everything together, we're beginning to get a pretty good picture of this person who led a very interesting life. So I was down the genealogy rabbit-hole for some hours with that. Happily, I was able to reciprocate by sending him a picture of his father in military uniform which he'd never seen.

In between, I squeezed in some more research for my book and did some editing - based on the up-to-date information I now have -- and that will have to continue into tomorrow as it's half-past midnight now. No time to read posts tonight, but I'll try to get back early in the AM and see if I can catch up.

posted send other than going for the flowers for Elsie. Very worried about the spread of the virus it seems countries run by men are doing worse than those run by women. Unfortunately we are among the worst hit. Have worn a mask once only when I went to the eye Dr to change my glasses. But I am lazy not allowed to go out. By the way rather than ranting about who did what or said what. Some news about my containers, niece was cutting up potatoes so handed me 3 sprouted pieces planted them in various pots & one has sprouted so HAPPY DANCE did great there.

Watching Master Minds on the Game Channel and they said Canada.
It dawned on me we have not heard from Maureen for awhile. She is usually here later in the day.

Rosie- I do wear one when I go to the convenience store and restaurant. The restaurants have been social distanced and the store is small. I have only gone to the store two times since March.

Otherwise I have been outside most of the time. The hospital did not take my temperature and on the survey they sent to me, I asked why not?

The original opinion from the White House doctors was there is not a need to wear a mask and remember Nancy P. said to go to Chinatown.

I believe no one really knows for sure.

My son told me yesterday that the baby they took from the dying mother that was shot when she was in her car in North Minneapolis, is in critical condition but alive. emoticon

Frances, as soon as I can gather some info, I "might" send you a PM, Leona, our Library does have something on Genealogy, I'll check it out if possible, our Library is under construction right now, so it is remained closed, but we do have a branch Library up in Frederic (same county as Grayling) that is open, but, only 5 at a time in there, the Village is small and so is the Library

Thanks Ladies

Wow, I skipped yesterday and just finished reading 2 days posts.
Everyone has such interesting things to say.

Doris,,I watch Dr. Murphy from Northwestern Memorial every morning for his given time slot. Since he is an epidemiologist I kind of have a bit of faith in what he's saying. And yes a lot of it is common sense.
Oh I love Grantchester...belong to a Facebook group called I Heart emoticon British TV!

Nas, I have made plantain kind of Mexican style sauteed with butter and a little cinnamon and sugar.
Betty, Hamilton is for sure Terrific...I checked out the book from the library upon which Lin Manuel Miranda based his musical.
Leona, Auronzo di Cadore is what direction from Venice? Who knows our bus may have passed through it. My daughter and I were there in 2003.
I have 2 grandparents from Piedmont.
And everyone else..have a nice Evening! emoticon

Fran, I am quite aware that the virus has a pattern of its own, and of course, is advancing so greatly because persons of strong will did and do not listen to the men of science!
By saying, the top, I mean only that we have been told, far too often that "It is a hoax ", 'It will be gone very soon" etc. and so on by a person who has no science education and only wishes for the economy to return and I add, much too rapidly. In so saying, this has given many of our populace the 'go-ahead' and in their thinking has consequently placed us in the dangerous position that we find ourselves now. It is a regrettable situation and once this upswing is in place, will take careful and strict understanding by the masses to come down as it has in other countries.
I do understand all of this.
I have been isolated for now over 112 days and am not bemoaning the fact. All of my close family are doing the same with my blessing. My concern is only for the masses of persons who are thoughtless, selfish, and who believe that the men of science are not speaking to them are exacerbating the entire situation.

I listen to the news only once in the morning and know exactly what is going on.
Reading is a good diversion these days as well as painting and needlework.

Best to all...Doris.

Rosie- My library has My Heritage I can use on my computer at home for free. Some libraries also have Ancestry for no cost.

I do belong to Ancestry but the message boards are free.

This a link I got today. I have read her books. lindaweaverclarke.blogspot.com/2020/

So today I found my mother has 22 siblings. emoticon . I messaged the person saying she had incorrect information as my mother had no half-brothers or half-sisters.
Be cautious of information and check other sites. Maybe a cousin or distant cousin has information for you.
You can order birth and death records for family.

Takes a lot of time, but is rewarding.

Rosie, if you'll PM me the info on your great-grandparents I'd be happy to poke around a little for you. Or - with more details, maybe I can offer some direction? For example, were they in this country or another? If they were here - and living in a territory (vs state) you're going to have to do some phone- or leg-work. Maybe with local historical societies and libraries. Doing it the "old fashioned" way! But I'm happy to help if I can.

Doris, no one "at the top" is spreading coronavirus. It's not a conspiracy. While the Carolinas are indeed soaring in cases and deaths - as are Florida, Texas, Arizona, and many other places - New York State is dropping steadily. Because (as much as it pains me to say it - LOL) our governor, county execs, and mayors were pro-active and instituted quarantine fast and hard as soon as they realized how bad this is. Unfortunately, other states didn't pay attention and people continued - and still continue - to go out, gather in groups, parties, go shopping, traveling, visiting, eating in restaurants, etc etc etc. THAT is the cause of your problems. Not Dr. Fauci or President Trump or Speaker Pelosi or any of the politicians who are doing what they do: being political. Turn off your TV, stay home, and stop worrying. If you're meant to stay well and you exercise common sense, you won't be in danger. This is going to go on for a VERY LONG time. My daughter tells me she/they have been advised they will not be returning to their offices until 2021 - and that's the Feds, so it should tell you something. Have a happy anniversary. If you don't have champagne, break out a nice wine - and drink two glasses: one for you and one for him!

Hello, Monday morning.

The virus is 'running wild ' in this country right now and our top leaders are shaming Dr. Fauci for their own purposes. The physicians are all we have to count on here in the worst epidemic numbers ever seen in any country. I am thoroughly disgusted with those at the top!!!
Prayers are all we have now.

Betty, so nice that you could view Hamilton. I do not have the Disney Channel and so will have to wait until it may be seen on another station. I chose only the minimum of television channels as our bill is so high even with the minimum. As long as I receive PBS, I am satisfied. Did anyone see Grandchester last evening? The programming is very well done.

I foolishly left my eyeglasses at my son's home yesterday and am 'limping' along now with my former pair. and so am typing 'blind'!.

I stripped the bedding this morning laundered it and just put it on my queen size bed. What a chore for my back...It takes me so long to finish it. I took my blood pressure this morning and it is 'super' low.' sorry, this is just my stream of conciousnesss., you certainly do not wish to hear my complaining.

On to nicer words... I will try to find some .. now. Page 71

Icarus Ascending

In myth, it might be fair to say
that fifty-years is like a day,
and Icarus was skyward bound
in testing out those wings he found
for eons, like some child at play.
On earth could it be just the same
for mortals in that search for fame
or peace, or love, or happiness
who struggle nonstop in caress
of vast endeavor, with no name?

I feel beyond this veil of clay,
sweeping all dust of time away,
there must be life unending,
and in some dream, revealed one day,
we'll apprehend, Icarus ascending.

Doris Dix Caruso

Tomorrow, July 14, I celebrate 75 years of marriage.
Oh, how well I know that he is gone and yet I am married to him for my lifetime.
I wish I had some champagne. We were not 'drinkers' but when it was possible, we had a champagne cocktail on our anniversary date!

I trust your Monday will be a contented one.

Frances and Leona, my grandpa's side only goes to his father and mother, no more info, on either of them except maybe birth dates and death dates, and those only have the years and no month or day as far as I know, now, I am stumped as to how to get any other info on them, I do believe there is also the county where they were either born and died, but, I don't have any luck with finding or getting newspaper of the county.... Any advice

Hope all are well and staying safe

Trying to write this morning, but I placed my grocery order - and keep having to check it. I've already discovered a couple of mistakes: I completely forgot to order bread, and I check a package of turkey when I'd meant to get ham. Neither one is catastrophic, but since I won't "run out" to the store tomorrow, it means waiting until next week. I do find avoiding those quick trips - when I go for one item and pick up a half-dozen - is saving me a ton of money. So I won't complain, but I will have to come up with a double-check system because I seem to forget one thing or another every time.

Last night - well, 2 AM actually - I finished another ancestor story for the website and sent it off for approval/edits. This one is a person with living children, so even though a couple of his off-spring begged to have his story published, I refuse to do it until there is some sort of consensus among all the children. I try to be sensitive, but truthful - and that can be a tight-wire walk. You wouldn't think so, but some people are touchy about even the most basic/public facts. So we shall see. emoticon

The book is plodding ahead as well. I'm in a "reaction" scene which takes much longer to write than the alternating "action" scenes, but I find if I write them through - and then go back and edit later - I spend significantly less time stuck.

Weather's great. Family's good. My health is perfect. I'm eating and sleeping well. And my days are busy and full. What more can anyone ask?!

It is starting out to be a nice day but storms will move in later in day. I hope to get out and get a little done early in the morning so that I can beat the rain. I guess I am hoping we really will get some. Seems in short supply here. Yesterday was a pretty good day. Didnít get any walking in but did have 3, 186 steps for the day. I made some double chocolate muffins and a pasta/veggie salad and then had some quiet time to myself. Hope you had a good day also.

Good Morning everyone,

My dd Mary invited me over to see Hamilton on the TV. It was the original Broadway production and I had never seen it before. The voices were beaustiful But some words were spoken so quickly that i couldn't understand what they were saying. I need to read more about the times of Hamilton to help me understand the whole plot of the story. It was long but very good. Have any of you seen it? i wish I had known earlier that I was going to see it and I would have studied.

I have a zoom meeting with my tappers today..

Weather was beautiful yesteray...warm but no humidity. Hope fore the same today.

Smiles, Betty :)

Good Monday morning everyone, and thank you Camey and Nas, Camey, I was doing the one with the pillow between legs, had to be doing that one when I had to do them for my knee, I guess, I need to be more persistent when I do them and do them everyday, to keep my back and legs stronger, but, I fail and stop too soon, "I think"!!!

I thought we were suppose to get some rain yesterday, but, we did not

Rosie lean against a counter and put your head down and lift one leg to the count of 5, then the other.

Lie on the bed and put a pillow between your legs and squeeze the pillow.

Whatís that in the sky? Over the next week or so, near the northeastern horizon, at least 45 minutes before sunrise, youíll see a comet that surprisingly escaped melting and disintegration as it rounded the sun. The comet, named NEOWISE, is one of the brightest in the skies in decades, Dan Falk reports for Nat Geo. For the next few days, itís best seen at least 45 minutes before sunrise near the northeastern horizon. If you canít get the kids up early, youíll be able to see it later this week in the northwestern sky after sunset, arcing slowly upward beneath the stars of the Big Dipper. Its closest approach to Earth will be on July 22.

Good morning. It is going to be sunny today with temps in the mid 80s and generally a nice day. It is still somewhat humid but not as bad as last week. It is still enough to bother my breathing with windows open so still using A/C. Yesterday was not a good breathing day so enjoyed a day of relaxing and reading and some games on the tablet. Today is going to be better. I have plans for things that need doing today so will work on it. Yesterday I had a total of 2,760 steps so you can see I was not very active. We did get a little more rain yesterday so that was good. Sounds like more tomorrow and we can use that too. Hailley is doing pretty good right now and hope it continues. She is back on the prednisone and so she is very demanding. She thinks she is so hungry all the time and is a real pain, LOL. Hope your Sunday is a good one.

We do not have spaghetti squash here but if & when I visit US again plan to buy some seeds to grow them. Great you got the bird books, Betty. I do not think you would have read about them as only people interested in the Indian Freedom Struggle against British rule would know about them. When we first came to DC early 1976 a History professor told me that its unusual that there are only 2 people with that ancestry Sal & I. I wrote earlier we have our own tastes many things I do not eat oysters, etc. I think its great you are descended from Titan, Leona. Very special. Stay healthy, safe & well.

When we came back to the Shop from the doctor's appointment, I saw so many of the
business stores in north Minneapolis that had the windows boarded. This is not the major area that was rioted. Heartbreaking. emoticon

Frances- I do make notes in the genealogy tree but since I need to print so I can enter the notes, I keep the papers. I only have folders for the closest relatives. I have always been a note taker.

Betty- I also thought the microscope was a wonderful idea. So many things to study in nature and science. Great choice. emoticon

My second son is coming to mow today and the we will go to Wisconsin. He needs to help my oldest son take a couch into a friend's house. The ride will be a nice break for me and the ride is less than an hour.

Good morning! It is so lovely after the rains yesterday. Everything feels fresh and renewed. Temps heading upward later, though, and we'll be back in the 80s throughout the week.

Nas, you understand that I'm "rejecting" those foods without ever tasting them? So my opinions don't really count. I'm not at all adventurous about eating any more. How exciting to have famous ancestors in the history books, too. Would we have read of them here?

Betty, I have a North American Bird Guide which I've used for years. I also bought a smaller one that was just for Virginia and I loved using that because it has a check list in the back where we could keep track of what came to our feeders and yard.

Donna, I love a muffaletta sandwich. And you just reminded me of a little shop here where I used to buy an olive spread to die for. I'll have to see if they're still here - and open - and maybe I can order some.

Sunday is usually a no-pressure-to-write day, but I'm feeling creative, so maybe this afternoon I can work on my book.

Happy Sunday to you all.

I received my bird book in the mail and then my sister stopped by and gave me another bird book, so I am well supplied.

Leona: I fix spagetti squash often. I cut it in half, scoop out the seeds. place it cut side down in a small amount of water and microwave it until it is tender. You can fix it many different ways,
Enjoy..

Frances: I am so happy to hear that you have given microscopes to your children and they enjoyed them. I was concerned that I made the right choice. Thanks for easing my mind. It is suppsed to arrive today. that was fast delivery.

Wishing you all many smiles today. Betty :)

Frances to each her own I love heads fish or cow/goat cooked of course by my Ma. Only eat a few fish heads. Loved the poem, Doris. Thank you for the link, Leona, appreciate you thought of me, I enjoyed reading about Titan, Have some rather well known ancestors, one of them was very active against the British. Read about him in school & then my Pa said he is our ancestor. I feel that is why I am so vocal about any type of abuse, Ma's grandfather too in another context. I loved reading your posts very interesting. Niece & child are negative for virus as they met some one else whose family had it. Better go finish cooking. Made a raw banana stew that is called plantain, eaten a lot in the Caribean & Africa South of the Sahara.

Leona, try making a digital folder on your computer for each family group.

I tried making folders for each line but that wound up way too cumbersome when there might be 8 generations with a dozen children in each, and then their dozens, and then... LOL. So now I'm working mostly by family groupings. I've also stopped keeping paper documents except for direct line ancestors because I had far too many notebooks (all bursting with paper).

I've been told that when a genealogist dies, no one ever really cares about all those papers and notes and it's much better to keep it to a minimum. So I will leave my tree on ancestry, my website full of stories (plus a few copies of the actual book). If anyone wants to keep the notebooks for direct lines, they'll be there, but if they toss them the world won't end as there are digital copies of everything, too.

I sent a copy of my rough - unfinished - manuscript to a friend for an opinion. It seems like it's coming together, to me, but there's still a long way to go and this is where I begin second-guessing myself. And now I can't find my style manual. I have questions on formatting dialogue. The Chicago Manual of Style is almost $50 - and it's 3 years old so I'm thinking a revision might be coming? I hate to pay that and have it out-of-date.

Got in another 1,000 words today. It did rain but no thunderstorms. My son said he came through some hard downpours on the way back from Buffalo, where cars were pulling over to wait it out. We didn't get any of that - just nice, steady rain. It'll be a good night for sleeping.

Camey-My mother made spaghetti squash but I never did. She really liked it.

Donna- Nice to get out and about.

Today, I did some deep house cleaning, crocheted and did genealogy. I have so many names, I am confusing myself so I stop for a bit. I am trying to have a folder for each name but that does not always work. It is a never ending work in progress.

Auronzo is north of Venice. My grandparents are from Auronzo di Cadore and the Renaissance artist, Titian Vecellio, was born south of Auronzo in Pieve di Cadore. I am finding conflicting dates of his birth and no one really knows. My grandfather was Vecellio Salto in Italy because there are many Vecellios but surnames were dropped when they came to America. Doing genealogy is something I want to do so I can gift it to my children and grandchildren. My aunt did a chart for me many years ago so I have a somewhat of a record of the Vecellio family. I wish I had been able to do so much of this when my mother was still with us. The internet is wonderful for research.

Time to watch a movie. emoticon

Take care,
Leona emoticon

Donna it says to place it upside down. Did you do that? Mine came out nice and fluffy. I forgot to use the fork to make it look like spaghetti. LOL I have some left for tomorrow.

I did it on top of the stove with water. Said to place so the inside was on the bottom of the water.
Cooked it for 30 to 45 min and it came out nice and soft.

I wanted to get out of the house for a little exercise in the fresh air.
The Homewood Farmers' Market was perfect. I got some Muffaletta which is made with olives and other vegetables, kind of like Giardiniera, but milder.Also...
Organic red and green leaf lettuce, yellow squash, cucumber, red pepper, red radishes, green onions. oh and 2 juicy purple plums. Fun.

Carney, I put the spaghetti squash in the microwave after cutting it in half lengthwise and use spaghetti sauce and grated Romano Parmesan cheese on top.
Leona Where in Italy is Auronzo?
Doris, that was a heartfelt poem.
Hi Nas, Rosie,Karen,Betty and I wish I knew all the names for example Traveling Mamma..? Have a pleasant evening. emoticon

Dixie I am going to try it tonight and see what happens. I think my other one was like that at first but it was a while back so hard to remember.

Frances, when I talk about the good old days with my grand kids they think these days are the good old days. Times were different in my time. We had nothing but we were still happy. Today, the kids stand in line for a phone in the early morning. We had a 4 party line. Thinking back to those days I wouldn't mind being there now. It was peaceful and people battered with each other.

Well, I made the spaghetti squash. Looked it up. Then took seeds out and put it upside down in the water for about 45 min and then butter and cinn and it was good. Have some for tomorrow.

I keep meaning to mention - and keep forgetting - the new "Task View" included with the latest Windows updates. Have any of you used it? It's linked to a little icon that looks something like a film-strip on your task bar.

I'm forever putting working documents on my desk-top so I can access them easily - but then with revisions etc I have to remove and replace them with new versions which can be a nuisance. The new Task View displays everything I recently used and I can bring it up with just a click of the mouse. Really love it!

Anyhow... for what it's worth.

Good morning on Saturday..

I just took the Almond Bundt Cake from the oven and its cooling prior to my streaming the almond frosting over it. I also toasted almond slices to adhere to the icing for an added touch.
It is a dense cake and I am eager to have a slice but must wait until tomorrow at my son's home.

Camey, so sorry for all of your distress, your back, then the toaster problems. Give the toaster a 'fighting' chance before you return it. Did it come with explicit instructions?

Betty. your planned day sounds wonderful. I am so glad that you are enjoying your bird colony. I do see a few here as my flowering deck overlooks a green-covered hill, but being on the second floor I do not see any birds up close. I do hear them singing.
Nice to hear that you are puzzling. I never became interested in that hobby, but in my son's home they have a card table set up in their living room and they are always working on a new puzzle.
Janny too finds that this hobby takes her out of her constant pain for an hour or so and she also has one 'going'.

My life was all;ways so very busy, first with the photo studios and then with the bakery/restaurant that I guess I missed out on that hobby. Just keeping up with the bookwork, and keeping the staffs in order, left me little time for any hobbies except perhaps writing. and "To each his own" what makes s one happy, that is the key.
Your idea of the microscope for the little one's birthday sounds so smart. I remember giving my son one although it was later in his life.

Rosie, While I could not read the clipping (I may try with a magnifier later) your interest in forebearers sounds very pleasing. Good luck with finding as many as is possible.

Nas, so nice that you could entertain the company. It seems like it will be many, many months that this nice occupation will be enjoyed here in the states. I am sure you have heard that our death counts as the virus' are surging and it seems right now there is no stopping it.....So very, very sad. emoticon

Not to make anyone unhappy in my poem of today, Yet this is one I wrote shortly after his death. I was in deep despair of course.
I wrote: Page 100 in my book.

Alone

I guess I always knew that it would end.
In looking back my verses told me so.
Sometimes he did reiterate his plea,
that he should leave before I had to go.

He said he was a coward, couldn't bear
to be alone without me, so he prayed
that he'd be taken first, he got his wish,
But oh' my God, I've paid, how I have paid.!

Doris Dix Caruso.

Yes, I know it is an emotional and sad poem, but very true. He was a very strong man in mind and spirit and I did understand his feelings and yet it always makes me cry.

Tomorrow is another day in this long stretch of how many more and I do try to keep my spirits up., honestly...
Have a nice weekend everyone... Say your prayers... Doris

Camey, ha ha ha - my kids laugh at me for "knocking on wood" too.

Leona, yay! on getting your family tree uploaded. Now watch the "hints" fly in. Meant to give you a thumbs-up for your checkup also. Great news!

Betty, I've bought microscopes (and telescopes) for all of my grandchildren when they were around that age - and they are always a hit. It really opens up new worlds for them.

Rosie, stay safe at your reunion. I have a class reunion scheduled for September (I think) but won't be going. I'll be sorry to miss it as it's a "big" one, but don't want to take the chance.

Food: First off, I don't eat yogurt either. From these discussions I'm getting the impression I'm a very BORING diner. LOL. I wouldn't have said I'm fussy, but perhaps the proof is in the pudding? (pun intended)

Let's see: Breakfast is coffee first. Around 9 or so, I'll also have some fruit and either toast or bagel - usually with a flavored cream cheese or occasionally cereal.

Lunch is generally on-the-go (at the computer) so a sandwich of some kind - anything from a "club" of sliced meats, fresh veggies and a nice dressing, to fried egg or a plain PB&J.

Dinner is meat/seafood-and-potatoes or a casserole, with a salad or veggies or fruit - but in much smaller quantities as my appetite has waned.

I usually have one small afternoon snack which could be anything: crackers-and-cheese, a muffin, cookie, fruit, veggies, chips - whatever is on hand.

After morning coffee, I mostly drink plain water the rest of the day.
Yeah - borrrrrring. Right?

I think I jinked myself when a friend asked me how I was doing with the nerve in the back. I was having some good days and it seems after the words left my mouth the last two nights I did not sleep with the nerve waking me up several times. I think I need to remember to keep my mouth shut. LOL

We lucked out with the rain last night. We were suppose to get a storm. I was happy about that.
Our week coming is going into the 90 which is usually July weather so the ac will be on mostly every day in the morning instead of afternoon.

Hard trying to find Lysol. Seems BJ said as soon as they open a carton it is gone. A friend told me mostly the stuff is going to businesses and schools and the little in the store goes fast.

Dil is coming with groceries today. I did not have much for her to get. Once in a while if we run out we will go and get some things as there are things I like to pick out myself.

Has anyone made spagetti squash? It has been so long I forgot. I read on the internet to put it in the over at 400 for 50 min and oil it, but my gf said she never heard that as she remembers you put in water in a pan in the over but can also do it on top of the stove but face down. My dil got me the wrong kind as I asked for winter sq and should have said Butternut.

Well, off to finish mail and start the day..

I did work on my novel a little, but then I decided to read my book. Time goes so fast when you get up late and so slow when you get up early if you are not busy.

Hope everyone has a great day today.

Rosie- I missed it on Tellwut. I have not been reading the messages. I liked it.

NAS- People eat different foods throughout the word but a smile is universal. emoticon

Finally, I was able to download my family tree into Ancestry. I am not sure how I did it but I did.

Frances- I did get a response last night. She has information about my Italian great grandmother. My son took a picture of every cemetery plot when we were in Auronzo, Italy and I will have to search each picture.

My mother never knew her grandparents as they were in Italy and my grandmother never saw them after she came to America.

Karen- We have not heard from Julie for a long time and we hope all is OK with her and her family.

Have a good day.
I will check later.
Leona emoticon .

Good Morning,

They say we are in for a lovely day today so I will get out with my walker and tour the neighborhood. My sister is suppposed to stop by too. I probably will find some time to sit on the porch and watch the birds,,,but first I have to use some bug spray because something is bitting me while I am out there.

Doris: You mentioned what you enjoy having to eat. I have been eating plain yogurt with a spoonful of jelly mixed in it along with a glass of orange juice, sometimes a slice of toast. and always a cup of tea...Not always the same...I switch around with cereal or an egg...Lunch time is a sandwich or a bowl of soup....I enjoy a chocolate after lunch.. I don't eat out vey much, sometimes I order a carryout for dinner. I don't like to cook anymore. Love your poems.

I opened the new puzzle yesterday and am getting the border together. It is a picture of a hummingbird and a pretty red flower. I had to put the artichoke puzzle away...because none of us could make any progress with it. I am passing it on to my sister and her husband to see it they have any luck with it.

MY great granddaughter Georgia, will have a birthday in September, she will be 6...I ordered a microscope set for her. Since they live near the beach and have warm weather most of the year and since she will be home schooled this year because of the virus, i thought the microscope would be fun for her to experiment with. I read a lot reviews about the one I purchased and it had good reviews for the age... Her grandma will be visiting here soon and she can take the gift home for her birthday.

Guess I had better get this day on the road. Smiles, Betty :)

Good morning everyone,, I had to get a new cell phone, yesterday, and yes, it is a smart phone is what the other one I had was, anyway the battery went dead on the other one, and it would not take a charge or charge up.

Plans for me today are to go to a family reunion on my mother's side of family, social distancing and wearing masks, and things are to be disinfected hoping it will be a nice day for it as have to travel quite a ways, I will need to leave around ten-ish this morning to be there by about noon. emoticon emoticon

Sneaking in before the storms. If the prognosticators have it right, the thunder & lightning should start around noon and hang around the rest of the day. Maybe - since they've been moving across the country - they'll have played out before they get here?

Nas, goat-head soup just doesn't sound right. Ragout de tete chevre? The other day someone on FB had a plate of fish-heads. Same reaction. I expect I could eat certain things and even enjoy them if I didn't know what they were. LOL. Enjoy your visitors!

Camey, your toaster should brown evenly. I hope it works today.

Leona, what fun - finding cousins! I hope they respond. Sometimes I'll get a match that seems like a good resource, and they don't even answer my email. One thing I always do is respond - even if I can't offer any useful information I at least write and say so. I've been so busy on my book I haven't done much over the past few days. BTW I bought a 30-day subscription on Roots Ireland again so if you need anything looked up there, let me know.

I wound up with another solid writing day yesterday - so I'm a bit "dry" today, I think. Might have to look around for a little inspiration. Some scenes just pour off the keyboard - others are like trying to pick seeds out of a fig. I think today might be a fig-day.

Donna my new one has bagel, cancel, frozen and reheat. They said to let it run once without anything in it. Well, we did. Then I put in a English muffin and it would not get brown. So then I put in a slice of bread and it was brown on one side and not the other. So will try again tomorrow maybe because it is new. I hope I do not have to take it back. It is a Sunbeam and they are good products.

Not sure if we are getting rain tonight into tomorrow morning but next week all week in the 90 range so there goes the electric bill.

Hi All,

Doris in answer to one question, I enjoy lettuce, tomato, carrots, celery with different types of low fat salad dressing. Today was Tuscan. Also a bit of hummus brightens the veggies and very small amount of tuna salad completed my Friday lunch.
The bundt cake sounds delish! emoticon
Carney,,i have also misplaced pans from time to time. My new toaster has two choices, one for bread and also one for bagels, which I use for French bread toast.
Betty..so how is Cincinnati weather wise this week? Sharon the temps sound perfect. and

We went to Target and got our toaster and can opener. I also got a lasagna pan as I have been going to the dollar store for aluminum pans. I do not know what happened to my pans. When we had the flood in the cellar and I could not be down there a lot of stuff disappeared but I never noticed it till I went to use it even some of my son's old games.

Now,making list for dil to get and then going to put clothes away. We are waiting for a storm so I am going to get off before it comes.

Well, hello Mary Lou. It is good to see you posting.

I have been lazy, I guess in these quiet days of staying home I listen once to the news, usually, while I drink one cup of coffee and eat cereal, on most days, sometimes oatmeal or Cream of Wheat. That fills my tummy until I have a small lunch at one or so, usually a small sandwich of a slice of cheese or sometimes a slice of deli meats if available.
My very favorite is cream cheese and bits of pineapple in a smooth concoction.and on toast if possible.
What are your favorites?
I do try to drink a glass of water mid-morning and mid-afternoon but I have to add a bit of fruit juice to it to make it go down easily.
I just thought this might be a topic for discussion ...No?

Today, I believe I will get into the photo sorting and then finish my book..I find that I must only read a few chapters at a time or my eyes tire. I do have some excellent discs to play on the television screen. Some of these are of Italy and some are instruction in painting, both watercolor and acrylics..Those will be my goal for this afternoon.

Cleaning, oh sure. But I find that a definite bore...Don't you?

I will be baking an Almond Bundt cake tomorrow to take to my son 's home on Sunday. Almond is Cindy's very favorite. It is extremely tasty and has only a simple syrup poured over the cool cake for frosting. And that is Almond also.

Well since some of you enjoy a poem, Here it is for today...Yes, another love poem for these are what I write, more than any others.

Page 6

Constancy

Hold my hand
when night begins to lengthen.
Cradle me within the hollow
of your arm.

My dreams are sweet,
my pulses throb and strengthen
I feel a peace that cannot
know alarm.

Hold firm my waist
encircle me with your love.
Let breath on breath say all
we wish to hear.

So, let it prove-
one night upon another,
until our breath shall cease
and leave us here.

Doris Dix Caruso

And so it was...And so it was. I miss him, perhaps more every day!

Girls, Do have a lovely day....Doris

Went to use the toaster and it only cooked on one side so now I need a toaster and can opener.
Checked Target and they have them in stock.

Weather is getting hot and storm tonight. Not much to say except no sleep last night as nerve decided to keep me awake and spasms too. Drinking 8 glasses of water but still get the spasms now and then. May try and take a nap later.

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Good morning on this lovely cool morning. It is 63 but the dew point is only 57 and I am happy. It was so nice to sleep with the windows open last night. Fresh air is the best. I had a $257 utility bill this month so hope we can do without the A/C a little more this month. That does include water, electric, garbage, and all the little things like pest control, recycle, and things like that. Barb was in town and so she brought me a pizza for my dinner and that was so good. We also had a really nice chat. I walked yesterday for 15 minutes and had a total of 3,600 steps. I did very little but a few small projects around the house. Today should be better. Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning!

I'm planning a long day on the computer because thunderstorms are predicted all weekend, which might mean I'll have to shut down then. I want to get in as much writing time as I can while the book is moving.

Last night I got a few phone calls which took me away from the book - but I'd hoped for an early break anyway so it wasn't really a problem. Did get some fun news in that I learned my nephew graduated first his in class (Amherst) with top prizes in mathematics, philosophy, and overall achievement. He's also been accepted for graduate studies at Oxford so that's exciting. His mom is quite rightfully proud of him.

The kids went to the beach (Lake Ontario) yesterday and had it all to themselves. This is a stretch of natural beach, not a park, where we've been going for years. It used to be quite "wild" but as more people have discovered it, it's sometimes fairly busy. I guess their timing was lucky. They stayed for a few hours and really enjoyed themselves.

Off to work I must go...

Hey Marylou! Good to see you. You reminded me that I once ate bear meat. A friend was a hunter. I would say it was a little tough and not particularly tasty. I have had venison also. That was good. And once my brother shot a pheasant - that was very good as I recall. Funny how I'd forgotten that.

Leona, I think getting together with family - if they are being extra-cautious - is okay. I've only been around my son and his 3 kids and I'm keeping it that way. I'm even worried about that now that the girls will be playing soccer and going out again - but trying not to be paranoid.

I didn't write as many words as I hoped today, but I did do a couple of really solid scenes and edited a couple of others. So a productive day.

It's only 10 PM but I am flagging. Think I might read and go to sleep early for a change.

I have had rabbit b4, but, not wild, they say it tastes like chicken, but, I do not think so, I think frogs legs are better, we even bought some frog legs in our local store some years ago. I have not ever had some of the other wild food, (possum, squirrel, and etc

I was into my genealogy tonight, and found some pictures posted of some of my relatives, and I have some pictures in my possession who I have no idea who they are, there are no names on them, and I thought I would try and compare

Years ago I dated (seriously) a man with six children All were still at home as he had custody of them. He liked to hunt and ate what he killed. It happened to be a 'coon' once and he asked me to cook it. I did, parboiling it first after having cut it up. Then I baked it with bar-b-que sauce on the pieces (trying to disguise any wild and/or odd taste). I think they neither liked or disliked it, but I didn't because I knew it what it was . . .a wild animal. Years later I felt the same trepidation when a neighbor brought me a dinner with a venison steak on it. But that was good. As a kid we had eaten fried wild rabbit, so I guess it is what you are/were accustomed to eating.
But fortunately we are not expected to eat anything even slightly out of the ordinary here.
Time to go; they are bringing up some items my son brought and left here for me. Can't go shopping myself nor can he come in. We have rehab and a nursing home here on the campus and the virus has been in that bldg with some loss of life, but no virus (yet) in the bldg here for assisted and independent living. Wonder how long we will escape it?
I have been wondering also about Julie. Hope we hear from her soon and find they are ok.

Bye for now!
Mary Lou
