Recently, about 2 weeks ago, Paco suddenly stopped laying in my bed in the evenings throughout the night. I was feeling a bit hurt by his *leaving* me, and I became thoughtful about this, so I began experimenting. Was it the air conditioner? No. Was it the cat on the bed too? No. The 2 weeks went by and I would soon discover that Paco wasn't on the bed with me.

Then 3 nights ago, after reading for a couple hours while Paco was laying on the bed sleeping, I stopped reading and turned the TV on to watch a series I am "into" and within 3 minutes, Paco got up and went into the living room. He slept there the rest of the night. I did this the next 2 nights, and each time I turned the TV on, he did the same thing, Paco got up and left to get good sleep elsewhere, on his pillow in the living room.

I have decided that Paco doesn't like to sleep on the bed when I have the TV turned on. SO, I came to the conclusion that Paco doesn't sleep well when the TV is on. Neither do I but his schedule is different than mine, and I had to come to grips with the idea that even a little chihuahua Paco has decided what he likes and doesn't like and then exercised his choice and free will and chose to sleep where it is peaceful to him. Paco is a mover and a shaker!

Gotta love and be humbled by smart dogs who obviously makes good decisions for his health and good sleep. Now, if I could just get him to decide to stay on a diet.

Thank you. There was one time that the neighbors 2 rottweilers broke into our backyard and was chasing my cavalier Chrissy around the yard. Nikki just stood there chasing after them a little. Nikki was not afraid of big dogs as her breeder also bred Bernese Mountain dogs. So she was almost trying to make friends with them. My son made a joke that she wanted to bring them in to show them her fish. Thats how much she loved the fish. She was an awesome dog.

Oh my gosh Paula! I would have been a wreck! I don't put leashes on my chi's either, but I don't let them walk anywhere when we are out either. Going to the vets is about all I get them out to. I have a total of 6 dogs so its not easy deciding who should go. And if I even go near that shelf with the leashes for the cavaliers, all he$$ breaks loose! So they usually all stay home.

When I did have less dogs, I had a cavalier that use to LOVE to go to the pet store! She would drag me over to the fish section. Petsmart has some tanks down on floor level and she just loved to watch the fish. We had a tank at home and she would go nuts when we would bring home a new bag of fish. I would have to pull a chair over next to the tank so she could sit and watch the fish. I miss that dog so much. Nikki has been gone for 8 years now. It was a year after her passing that I got my first chi, Chelsea.

It was very scary for me to see him running outside. I had to close my eyes and pray. I couldn't watch it. I did watch for cars, and would have jumped in front of one if I thought it was going to hit him. I know this is impossible. But, I did get the feeling he knew what he was doing and he was watching for cars emoticon I was so happy to have that man helping me. He was younger than me and in GOOD shape and could get down on the ground and grab RAMBO as he went running by. I would not have been able to do it, because I can't get that low to the ground without falling down.
It still makes me laugh to think about him running through the store. It was like he would jump into the air and shake his head with a BIG SMILE on his face and then his little legs starting to do the motor boat engines rolling before he hit the ground. HE was just flying through the aisles and looked very proud of himself. emoticon

HArd for me to believe that last time I made a post here was 09/10?? I guess it makes sense if I put things in perspective with the day the floods came 09/12 emoticon emoticon and the same day the kids flew out to go home. They got out just in time.

Today, RAMBO, and I had some errands to run before my doctor's appt. After, we dropped DH off at work we went to Wal-Mart and I could tell he knew where we were. I think I mentioned the last time we were there he snuck out of the car just to do his business on a parking pole and then he returned to the car. Today, not so lucky. Today, he got out of the car and was peeing on the pole. I checked in with him, he made eye contact and I went back to the car to wait for him. When he didn't come I went to look for him and there he was at the entrance doors waiting for me. Looking back at the car like WHERE ARE YOU?? So, I got my purse and headed to the door by the time I could get there he was gone. He had gotten the automatic doors to open and was inside the store running like a WILD DOG. He was SO HAPPY, Kickin' op his heels. A Wal Mart employee was chasing him. and, he thought it was a game. Now, I am in the store trying to remain calm and get him to come to me. Which he does when he sees me, BUT as soon as he gets within my reach WHOOSH he is gone and peeing on the door. Now, he is outside the store and hiding in a flower display. I find him and he is now pooping. When he is done he comes running to me, BUT won't let me get ahold of him. A wonderful man is coming through the parking lot and sees my distress. He is concerned that my crazy man, may get hit by a car if we don't get him soon. The best news is that it was EARLY and very few people were awake yet. So not so many cars as usual. Well, Rambo made a mad dash to run between us, the man was VERY FAST and caught him and gave him to me, and now I am in the car laughing at my SMART A"** DOG. What an image I have of him sniffing at the door and getting it to open. I think I may have a genius on my hands. He has obviously been paying attention to me when I go into the store. He knows just HOW it works. WHAT a FUNNY GUY emoticon emoticon I won't let that happen again. I now, attach his leash to the car and then to his harness before I get out of the car. He is a hand full. I am really tired. I then took him for a half hour walk before I had to go to my doctor's appt. I had my hearing tested. GOOD NEWS both ears are fine. I think DH needs to get his hearing checked NOW. emoticon I wonder when I'll be back next??

The kids were here today. And, after brunch we came home to get Rambo and go for a walk. It was fun to see him get so much attention from everyone. Each one of us took turns holding the leash and walking with him. I felt really good as I noticed he always kept his eye on me and wouldn't get too far out of my sight. LOVE YOU TOO BUDDY!!! Then, my 19 y/o nephew took him for a run across the open field. Wow, he couldn't keep up with Rambo and his little 3 inch legs. Rambo loved running with him. What a happy day. We are all ready for naps now. And, Dinner. emoticon emoticon emoticon TO ALL OF YOU!!!

If Magic is anything like my Tea'a, she probably loves to be on your DH lap all day! Tea'a comes running whenever she hears me sit down. But to give her candy?? Thats too funny! I can see mine doing that to. They get a cookie when they come upstairs to the bedroom. And that when I first started to see actual excitment in Tea'a. Her whole body will shake, not just her tail, lol. and she runs up and down the hallway till I get close to the bedroom. And Chelsea is right there with her. But once they are done eating the cookie, Tea'a runs and jumps up onto the bed to get petted by my husband and secures her spot between his legs. Chelsea stays with me untill I am done getting ready for bed.

Chelsea doesn't much care for Tea'a either. If Tea'a gets to close or invades her space she will get off the bed. But they are getting better. They are learning to be together. Sometimes they will actually sleep between my husband legs together. Much to the dismay of my husband, as he can't move his legs now, LOL or he gets looks from both of them.

They are a very fun breed indeed!

LOL, Starr. I bet we all have our night time routines! I often give my babies treats then too after we are in bed, but I use it as part of their "training". They must go toward the foot of the bed and sit and wait until I say their name, then each one can come and get their treat. It is SOOOO hard for them and some have no self control. LOL. So they "break ranks" and come forward too. He who does that gets their treat last. (Aren't I mean?!) I usually give them 2 or 3 treats so we get in a good session (little treats). It's good for their learning and fun too. When DH is home they all pile on him and get some loving, then off to their "spots". Our Pooka is our princess and no one had better try to pass or bother her once she's settled! They avoid her like the plague! Hahaha. You'd think she was vicious but it's all "talk" on her part. Seems to be enough to get her way tho. ;)

Chihuahua's are the BEST!!!

I have a black Chi named Magic. She spends a great deal of each day riding around on DH's lap, he's confined to a power chair. At night, I put her in the bed and she runs up DH's chest and kisses him all over his face. Then I have to pick her up and move her down to the foot of the bed so that I can get DH settled for the night. The she runs back up DH's chest to deliver more kisses. DH likes to eat a piece of hard candy when he gets into bed, so Magic sits on his chest waiting for DH to finish the candy, because he will then bring the tiny piece of candy to his lips and she takes it out of his mouth and crunches it and eats it. Then she goes down to his left arm at the side of the bed and waits for treats. We give all 3 of our dogs dental chews before turning the lights out. She has her ears erect & pointed forward, watching the door like a hawk. She KNOWS that a treat will be coming thru soon. She gets her treat and enjoys it. The she walks over DH's mid-section to the night stand (where we keep a bowl of water) and gets a drink. Then back over DH's mid-section to her "spot" in the bed. She then shovels her way under the cover, makes 2 or 3 circles and that is where she stays the entire night. She does not want to be touched or even talked to, from then till time to get up the next morning. Bullet, our Corgi, sleeps at the foot of DH's bed on the same side that Magic does and sometimes Bullet will get "to far" up in the bed for Magic's liking. When this happens, you will hear a growling match & even snapping~~Bullet on top of the cover & Magic under the cover. It usually does not take Bullet long to get the idea that he is in the "Princess" Magic's personal space, and moves.

My little Teeny Marie (R.I.P my sweet baby girl) was a Rat Terrier. At 8:00 EVERY night, did not matter what I was doing or what room I was in, she would come to me and start barking at me. At first just a tiny short bark~~she wanted me to go to bed. As time went by, if I did not heed her command, her barks would get louder, longer & much more intense. If I would go down the hallway that leads to the bedrooms, she would try to heard me to bed. If I did not go there, she would follow me and keep barking. In the evening is the only time that she would ever bard at me. She wanted to go to bed, and she wanted to go to bed NOW, with ME. I miss my little Teeny Marie, SO SO much!! emoticon She's been gone for 4 months & 3 days now. emoticon

Thank you Carol. Yes I was very pleasantly surprised by the antics of my first one Chelsea. And now Tea'a has her own brand of antics. And she really knows how to turn on the "cute" when she needs to!

Lisa, welcome to the group. I have been busy and away so just got back here. I think you are finding out what I try to tell folks but until you have been "owned" by a chi you can't really understand. They seem to be some of the most unique personalities in dogs I've ever known and I've known a lot of breeds. I love all dogs, but these guys are funny. Yes, they all make me laugh pretty much. Each one has it's own unique things. I have one that does some of the things you described. I also have a "more or less" rescue from a breeder. I am her 3rd home. I don't think she was ever abused but she was kenneled so much. I have had her since she was 5 and she's now 12, nearly 13. It has taken her about 6 yrs. to heal. She seemed healed at 3-4 yrs. but I've continued over time to see little things that tell me it was still happening. She is such a different dog from when we got her. She was timid and scared then, now she will go up to people right away and look for attention. She also only wants a pet before bed, then goes down to our feet to sleep, altho we are "allowed" to look at her and talk to/about her. LOL. My boy is my "baby". He likes everyone, but I "belong" to him he thinks. If you go back and read some of our stories I think you'll get a kick out of them. :)

Thanks Paula,

I am really enjoying these 2 chihuahuas. They are so amusing all the time. They make these grunting, groaning, moaning noises when you pick them up. My daughter says they should have their own soundtrack! LOL And Chelsea can be so very expressive with her ears that my husband say she is contacting the mother ship with them, LOL.

Sorry to hear about Ricky. I had Nikki, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that used to sleep on my back like that too. She was funny in that she would sleep under the covers with her head sharing my pillow with me. We lost her in 2005 at the age of 10 1/2. I did obedience training with her and she even earned a title. I also did conformation showing with her and she had a title on both ends of her name. She was a very special dog. I will never have another one like her.

I did puppy obedience with Chelsea and she attacked a boxer puppy. Luckily I was able to get her before he figured out what was going on. That is the one thing I wish I could change about these dogs. Both of mine will bite people who are not regulars in my house. Chelsea even bit my mother! Which my husband thought was pretty funny as he got bit by her Lhasa Apso when we were dating. I have done so much obedience training with other dogs that I don't bother driving to the classes anymore. I just teach them what I want them to know now. "Come" is very important to me, and "stay". "Sit" is also a good one. And they all seem to learn it. But I don't need them to do 10 minute sit-stays and stuff. I should be walking with them, but it is too hot for me, so I won't make them walk outside in it either.

Chelsea will play "keep away" with her toy. She grabs it in her mouth and wants you to chase her and try to get it away from her. And when you reach for it, she snaps her little head the other way at the last minute so you miss grabbing it. Tea'a doesn't play at all. I don't know if she ever learned to play, if anyone ever played with her. I get the feeling that she was to be a breeding bitch and noone really got to know her. I think she has had trauma to her in her past too as she is missing 3 teeth on the same side of her face and that thing with her uterus healing stuck to her muscle wall. How anyone can abuse such a small, helpless, beautiful animal is beyond me. But after her spay, I am really starting to see a happy dog! She is starting to get excited about things and that tail is wagging more every day. She is setteling into our routines here very nicely. This is her forever home now.

Good Luck with Rambo in the next obedience class. Hopefully he will get used to being around other dogs. Let us know how he does.

Hi L:Isa,
and emoticon to the CHI LOVER'S TEAM emoticon IT is SO GREAT to read your stories. The stories about our fur babies is my favorite part of the team. Along with getting to know each other and the support we get and give as needed. I am SO HAPPY to read about your rescues. I loved reading about Tea sleeping in the small of your back. That is where my Ricky slept. I miss him so much, we lost him in April after 15 wonderful years. We just got another dog from the shelter, his name is Rambo, he is a Chi-Weenie mix and a goofy FUN puppy. We are enjoying him so much. I love it when he wakes me in the mornings.

We had our second Obedience training class on Saturday. Oooops, he got away from me and attacked a Boxer/Pit mix. SO LUCKY he was a mellow nice dog. He just ignored my Rambo. And, we were able to get him back without too much fuss and thankfully NO injuries. I was a nervous wreck. We think somewhere in his past he was abused and has been attacked by dogs. He just does not like other dogs especially when he is on a leash.

He likes to lay on his back with his favorite ball between his two front paws and then he rolls the ball and bounces it in the air and then catches it and holds it up and looks at it like I LOVE YOU emoticon I'm with you LISA, I JUST LOVE THEN SO MUCH emoticon

Hello, I just posted my personal introduction in the intro forum, but I wanted to talk more about my chi's. We used to breed and show Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Then one day we decided to become foster parents for our local animal shelter. One of the pups we got was a chi/terrier mix we named Peanut. She was so small and so sickly, my daughter and I switched off each day and night to feed her by bottle all day. We finally got her well enough to go outside. She loved it and all my neighbors. Then she got old enought to go back to the shelter. I had a home all lined up for her. But by Monday my friend never called to say she got Peanut. I went to the shelter to find out they had put her down because she had a small spot of ringworm on her little ear!!!! I was so upset and heartbroken and told them I will never do this again for you! I just kept saying "I should have kept her myself! Then I would have taken her to MY vet and they would have caught it and treated it before the shelter ever saw it" I just loved her very small size and after much talking with DH I was looking for my own chihuahua to replace Peanut. Thats how we got Chelsea.

I found a breeder fairly close by and my daughters and I went and picked her up. She is so cute and one of the goofiest dogs I ever owned! She does the cutest things. Once she got here she took one of the dog toys from the floor and basically declared it as hers. Noone else from that point on could touch it. She would "put" that toy in places like your shoe, a potted plant, stuck between cushions, the water bowl, my sons gym bag!! I would have loved to see his face when he opened it up and saw that in there! LOL When you talk to her she will run in circles and drag her back legs behind her, or stretch them out one at a time. My daughter has taught her to scoot her butt on command! She just keeps us laughing.

In March after much coercion, my husband talked me into going to the flea market as we hadn't been there for years and my son was visiting. It was something to do. As we were walking around I saw many people selling dogs. Mostly big dogs, how sad, I thought. Then as I was passing one that had small dogs in crates I noticed Tea'a out of the corner of my eye. She was a very pretty long haried Chihuahua! Chelsea is long haried too. Thats why she caught my eye. We stopped to talk to the lady and the more we talked the more we were NOT going to leave without her. This lady 'specialised" in 8 breeds! She fed her dogs by throwing the food onto the floor and basiclly letting them fend for themselves. She had Tea'a there because her daughter did not like the dog and the dog hated her. But she told me how good Tea'a was about getting into her crate every night. Well we paid the woman her $150 and took Tea'a home with us. She badly needed a bath as she had that kennel smell to her.

She got a bath, a meal out of a bowl, and lots of attention. She slept in our bed with us, under the covers and right up against my back. No other of my dogs ever does that, not even Chelsea. I love this dog already! Next day, the vet says she is malnourished but otherwise looks good. I can fix that for sure!! But as the weeks went on I learned a few things. We are the 4th owner she's had in 5 years. We think they tried to breed her and for some reason could not. She has had bouts of serious diarreah with blood, coughing and other things. So the vet has her on Science Diet Z/D for allergies and a very low dose of steroids. She is doing super now. Has gained a little weight, she is 6 lbs now, she was 5 when we got her. We recently had her spayed and the vet found evidence of trauma to her uterus. It had healed itself to her muscle wall! And she was missing 3 teeth on one side of her mouth. I don't know what this poor dog has gone thru, but its over now. She is with me and is every bit my dog now!

This dog is such a loving dog I can not imagine anyone ever giving her up. If any of these other owners had taken the time to get to know her at all they would not have gotten rid of her! She is such a love bug!! She wants to be on my lap whenever I am on the computer or laying down watching TV. She has been on my lap the whole time typing this out. All she wants is love and pets. She drapes herself like a beanie baby across my lap. At night in bed she will bury her head into my or my husbands side with her butt up in the air. When you scratch her tail she will shake her butt back and forth like she is dancing. She is just adorable.

Chelsea is funny in bed too but she is totally diffrent. She wants to be petted when she first goes into bed. She has a routine with my husband and once that is over is goes down by my feet and goes to sleep. At this point you are no longer alowed to touch her, talk to her or about her. If you do, she gives you a very dirty look and gets off the bed! LOL

I just love chihuahua's and will never be without one again. I am just so glad they have a long life span. My cavaliers are only expected to live 10-12 years. I had one die at 9 1/2 and one die at 10 1/2. There other died at 12. I have one now that is 16 1/2 and another one that is 14. One that is 11 and another that is 9. I have a full house of dogs, but I love them all.

Thanks for reading this lengthy post. I look forward to hearing some of your stories.

It just dawned on me, I should be posting my doggies stories in this Thread, NOT in our Chat Thread. Sorry friends, I guess I get confused easily. Well, here I am posting after our first class at the ZOOM ROOM. It was just an Orientation for Rambo, to make sure he is ready to go into the Small Dog Play Group. But, we learned he needs some training first. Which is fine with me.I just really want to make sure we give him lots of socialization and help with any issues he may have. We do know he has "leash stressor". When on a leash he barks at other dogs. BUT, off leash he is fine with them. So we are going to work on changing that. I have a clicker and some really good doggie treats to give him. This is to help me when we are out walking and encounter other dogs. The goal is to distract him from the other dogs. And, keep his attention on me. This will make me happy.

The good news is the woman we met with just loved him. She kept commenting on what a happy good dog he was. She said it so much, I felt very special. Ya know how you always think your baby is the CUTEST and the SMARTEST emoticon Well, it was good to hear from her. I kept asking why are you saying that? What is he doing that is so special? Well, he is just hanging out as we talk, with his tail wagging. He is NOT pulling on the leash. He is NOT jumping on you or me. Just look at him, he looks happy. You picked a GOOD DOG!! I said, "HE picked me" That is how I feel about him. I felt a connection the first time I saw him and I felt as though he said, "GET ME OUT OF HERE!!"

Gotta go give the baby his first bath.

That sounds JUST WONDERFUL, Carol. I think I already said this, I want to get several dogs.
I was thinking today about a woman I met in one of the classes I recently took. She has trained dogs to be service dogs. I would love to be able to train mine to be service dogs that could go visit people in the hospital or nursing homes. I KNOW THEY HELP PEOPLE HEAL!! emoticon

I'm so glad you shared your story, Carol, I'll keep it in my heart this weekend. emoticon

Yes, this is a really fun thread to re-read.

When I go to visit my aunt who lives in an independant living place with "no dog" rules except if you have one when you first come, then when it's gone no more. Well, most of the people love dogs (one nasty woman who apparently won't even ride in the elevator with them, if you try to get on when she's in it she won't let you on!) Anyway, they all LOVE my babies. I tease them as when I go down I never hear "it's good to see you", etc. - It's always "Did you bring your dogs?" LOL. My aunt says when it's been awhile since I was down they start asking her when I'm coming- and will I bring my dogs. Hahaha! I also get alot of comments/compliments on how well behaved they are. :)

I am so happy I decided to see what was hiding in this Thread. And, I am especially happy that I made the post on November of 2012 about my Ricky and his cuteness. The last time I went shopping and it made me think about this time he was playing hide and go seek. BUT, this time he wasn't there. Needless to say, I had to sit there for a good cry before I could drive again.

DH and I have decided to go to the Shelters this weekend, just to see what we find. I would really like to have more than one dog.

Carol, we did the same thing with Ricky when traveling. If it was hot, we would take turns staying in the car with him so we could leave the windows open. So funny, how we each have the same stories and experiences with our Chi babies. BIG personalities and hearts. emoticon

I use a spray bottle with my chihuahuas - that's the only thing that I can do to get my dogs to give me some space, lol. My boy-boy, Roscoe, is my little prince. He hates sharing my attention with anything (food - unless I am sharing with him (lol), the computer, even the TV). He will actually paw my computer or TV remote out of my hand to get my attention (luckily he doesn't try to take food out of my hand - that's my min-pin). He is such a sweet boy though. Right now he is sitting on my knee because I am sitting up and he cannot get to my computer. Everybody say hello to Roscoe!

My Pip is soooo funny. He's my smallest, about 4 lbs. or a bit less. Snuggles is the biggest, a bit over 7 lbs. so quite a bit larger than him weight-wise. Well, both of them are dominant dogs (Alpha) and neither will give in. It was the same with my Sammie when he was alive. She could wup him when she wanted to, but he still wouldn't bark "uncle". LOL.

OK, so most of the time Snuggles just ignores him, puts up with all his foolishness, his barking at her, etc. When she wants to climb in a doggie bed (I have 3 of them all together in the kitchen, plenty of room for all of them) she will start walking toward one, he will jump from one to the other as she walks along them and BARK at her, to tell her "They're ALL mine and you can't have one"!!! So I intervene as most of the time she will let him have his way, until she has had enough and gives him "what for". So he'll have to let her in one when I say so. emoticon Well, some days he KNOWS he can't have his way and it makes him sooooo mad. He will literally grab the side of the bed in frustration and bite it and pull on it. It is just tooooo funny. But none of them ever hurts the other. It's all noise. So I just watch and laugh.

OK, I loved the spray bottle thing. Here's my "magic" doggie fixer... When I'm on the phone they know I'm "trapped" and love to get in my face and try to lick me, etc. I found out that if you just TOUCH the top of their head with a tv remote - I mean do NOT tap them, just TOUCH- they do NOT like that at all. So once they know about that all I have to do is pick it up and hold it up, they retreat immediately. It is just too funny to watch them.

LOL, I can just see that happening with a chi. We have something similar- but she's "in trouble" and she knows it when this happens...

When we go on trips and take the trailer, ofcourse the dogs ride in the truck with us. The back seat is "doggy" territory. I have a doggy carseat cover to protect the truck, and they have their beds to lie in back there. We rarely leave them alone, only for very short "excursions" if it's not hot, to places like the biffy at wayside rests, etc. If it's too hot we take turns with one of us staying with the dogs with windows open, etc. Well, Snuggles does NOT like it if we leave. I'm sure it has to do with her past. She HAS to see where we go. She knows she is NOT supposed to be in the front seat (she sheds just terribly) and we always "sternly" tell her to stay in the back. Why we do that, I don't know- LOL - we ALWAYS know we will see a little white head peering out from the front window. and yup, sure enough, it's always there. She watches us come back, as soon as she's sure it's us and she knows she's going to be in trouble, she quick jumps back to the back, then looks at us sooooo innocently. We always "scold" her, then laugh because it is all so silly, mostly us pretending like she will actually listen and stay back there! LOL.

First, I must thank Carol for her warm Return welcome to Spark. Thanks Carol.

I am so excited to share this story with you about my Ricky, he is a 14 y/o Chi. My BEST BUD. He goes with me everywhere I go. Last week we were shopping. I park as near to the entrance as possible. After about 20 minutes of shopping, as I returned to the car, I saw Ricky standing at the driver's window looking for me. He saw me and as soon as he was sure it was me, he ducked under the window, then he popped up again, then dropped again, he was playing "Peek-a-Boo" with me. Do you think your Chi is the smartest most intelligent dog on earth? I know I do. emoticon

Hi and welcome back Debby! Glad to hear from you. I've been gone for a couple of weeks on a trip to Calif. and then came home to a computer issue that wouldn't let me read or post here on SP. I seem to have it fixed now! Yay.

Now to your question... yes, I think all chi's will eat ANYTHING they can find. I used to live in the country and we had horses. When the ferrier came my chi's were in doggy heaven- dirty, stinky horses hoof trimmings to chow down. They wouldn't touch the boughten ones. No flavor I guess! LOL. Now I live in town and my current babies go out and look for "bunny snacks", you know, those little "chocolate" balls the bunnies leave behind. EEEUUUUOOOOUWWWW!

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've posted any messages, in fact, I think that last time I had only one chi! I now have a second and she's turning 1 next month. Her name is Willow, an adorable blonde long- haired girl. As Chihuahuas go, she's a bit of a disappointment - her ears never went up and at 1, she's a whopping 10 1/2 lbs! On the other hand, she's a ball of energy, smart as anything, a great bed mate for me and companion for Tico. She tends to eat everything she finds outside - bark, branches flower bulbs, and something that gave her severe gastro and cost me a small fortune at the vets (not to mention sleepless nights putting her out and cleaning up poop and vomit). Do other chihuahuas do this or is mine totally un-chihuahua like?

OK, here's another from me and Pip. We have a garden in the summer and with plenty for all I share a few tidbits when I'm chopping things up. My chi's all LOVE the veggies. So now if I am chopping anything they all gather around VERY hopefully. Now Pip has started to pull gently on my pant leg whenever I am standing at the counter doing anything- washing dishes, etc. "Mom, I'm down here. Mom, give me attention, Mom give me goodies, Mom, give me, give me..." LOL- he looks so cute and hopeful.

Another cute chi moment:
My chi is very spoiled. He gets all the attention and thinks he always should. So therefore, when I get on the computer, he comes over and sits beside me and puts his head in my leg. He looks up at me with those big chi eyes like "Mom, I'm down here,I need some attention". If that doesn't work and he REALLY needs my attention, he tries to crawl up in my arms while I am still trying to type. He is just rotten---and I know I am to blame for that-LOL!

LOL :p Thanks for your help.
Your Pip sounds like my mom and dad's chi. If another dog has a chew toy that he wants. He goes over and sits beside them and whines. If that doesn't work he flips over on his back and whines even harder. It is so comical to watch.

I have my own chi story. My Pip (all of 3.5 lbs) is "Mr. BOSS" He doesn't bully nor fight- he's passive agressive I guess, but it seems to work for him! When he wants someone to move- from a bed or whereever- he just silently goes and sits with his back to them, butt touching them, then sort of looks out of the corner of his eye. In only a minute or 2 they get up and leave!!! It works no matter the size of the other dog. He's truely Mr. Attitude! LOL

No, I've never heard of this, mine usually run around more wildly for a tiny bit! Are you giving him a bubble bath and a glass of wine- LOL. Seriously, I can't help at all, except perhaps just do it in the evening and it won't matter- that's time for quiet anyway!

Hey everyone. This is not so much a chi happening but a question. I give my chi a bath each week to help cut down on the allergens for myself. However, it literally gives my chi out. Whether I give him a bath early in the day or later in the afternoon, it does not matter. He usually just wants to sleep and lay around the rest of the day. Does anyone else's chi do this?

Hi Debby, I know what you're going through because we're raising a puppy too. I've taken all kinds of things out of her mouth including staples, pieces of unidentified ceramic, bits of wood, etc. She loves all kinds of paper and when I use the paper shredder she runs over and stares at it like she's watching a tv program. I agree with you that puppies are a full time job. Good luck!

I've been enjoying the latest chi "happenings" and stories and thought it was time to "resurrect" this post.

My story today is about Pip- I woke up last night a bit uncomfortable- my head was half off the pillow. When I tried to move- there was a body smack in the middle of my pillow. Pip had gotten in bed (I have steps for them) and crawled under the covers before I got in and I forgot to take off his sweater. So he had gotten warm enough and decided, being a Little Prince, that he should have a softer bed. How he got me to move off the pillow I have no idea!!! But I'm bigger, so I got it back! LOL.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the welcome. Just to let you know, Tico's ears have resumed their upright position!! He has also learned to sit and to lay down with just a few minutes training over a few days. I'd love to say that walking him is adding exercise to my program but once on his leash he adamantly refuses to move (unless he pulls backwards). I must say that a lot of energy is put out just keeping him from gnawing on everything within reach. Any tried and true solutions to keep him from destroying every shoe and piece of furniture in his immediate area?? It's a good job I decided I wouldn't have a puppy until I was no longer working - he's a full time job all by his cute little self. emoticon

Thanks Marilyn. I'm looking forward to spending many happy years with Tico. I can say that I haven't been this busy since my kids were little (many long years ago). He sure has lots of energy. We learned to "sit" yesterday. I was amazed at how little time it took him to grasp the concept! Too bad potty training isn't that easy. Just when I think he's doing exactly what he should, he leaves a "surprise." Generally in a spot where hubby is bound to step in it!! Thank goodness I have more patience than he does. I will appreciate any advice I get from other chi owners.

Hi Debby, welcome to the team. It must be so much fun raising a Chi from a puppy. I know we'll all enjoy hearing about Tico's adventures as he grows.

I have discovered that Cielito is too distracted on most weekends to do his "business" outside unless he is desperate since he gets interested in all the happenings around my neighborhood. However, yesterday, he did very well since it was raining and not too much was going on. I'm glad I also have potty pads inside for those distracted times!

Thanks SAMMIESMOM. I'm glad to hear that his ear will stand up again!! Even if it doesn't, he is adorable. He is 3 months old and possibly teething - if the amount of biting he does is any indication.

Debby, you don't say how old he is but that is normal for that to happen. They should go back up. sometimes teething (I've heard that's the cause) can do this. Don't play with them tho, it may be fun, but I've always heard that's a good way to break down the cartiladge.

BTW, all my babies are sold, 4 to one family, but 2 different homes - mom, daughter and daughter-in-law. Great family, I can tell this is going to be one of the best homes my babies have gotten, and I've had alot of great people buy puppies- I still keep in contact with a number of them and get to hear what's "going on" with my babies. :-) I get to see them ALL (5) again since the other one is with a gal who works at my vet's office and she brings her babies in often. Yeay!

Hi everyone. I am new to this team (today) and a new chi owner. I got my pup, Tico, about 6 weeks ago and it was love at first sight! He's a bit of a challenge but it's been a long time since I had a puppy. I have a question for you other chi lovers; my pup had floppy ears until a couple of weeks ago and then, one at a time, they stood straight (and yes, I thought he looked like a miniature shepherd). The last few days, one of his ears is flopped over again. Is this normal? Will it stand back up? I have so much to learn!!

I had to share- the babies are growing- fat as little Budhas! But I'm EXCITED- at least one (possibly 2) is a long coat. My first one!!! She sort of looks like she's having a "bad hair day"! Heeheehee... Softer fur too. I have them posted on my blog - you can find it under my name (it's not a SP blog) if you want to see them. I will be posting new photos in a day or 2 as well.

My Pip does watch now and then, not even dogs, he just suddenly watches. It's so cute. I love it tho when a dog barks- they ALL sit up and take notice. But when we watch something that has like a storm or something loud like that- rumbly loud- trains, etc. poor Snuggles just shakes. We have surround sound and it sort of vibrates things I think. I hate when it does that to her. She's had a rough enough life without that sort of thing.
BTW- she and the puppies are doing GREAT. I have to find the time to post some photos. She gets her "butt bath" tomorrow- I'll have help to hold her so I don't have to get her all wet. Too cold for a total bath now.

Does anyone elses chi like to watch TV? Bruiser does. We watched Bolt last night and every time Bolt barked Bruiser went running to the TV and barked back. I don't know what that dog was saying but He had the greatest time. He is just too funny sometimes.

Phyllis, thank you for showing me this site!!!
As for the bad knees, I suggest that you use Ester-C (1/2 tab), once per week. It will cure his knees if it is arthiritis or ligament related.
