Hi all!
Just a brief note. I have read through the posts. Looks everyone is busy...shopping, cleaning, visiting, moving, schooling, and dealing with illnesses. Prayers that everyone that is under the weather still will be well soon! Good luck with the moves. Prayers for Bob that he will understand that things will be fine. Too bad he doesn't move down with his daughter. It is hard being so far from family. Beware the bear! Yay to school being almost over! Loved the flowers...they did brighten the day! Careful moving things around! Hope the flannel shirt came out nice! Sing, sing a song...make it simple to last your whole life long...

I have been busy at the rectory, but Fr. J is almost moved over. Fr. B has some books and magazines to pack that we forgot about...they were in the living room entertainment system's bookcase and shelving areas. I'll get that done next week. Yay! I got things done so that I do not have to work there this weekend. The new priest, Fr. L, should be moving in on Monday or Tuesday...he's currently in the Ottawa area to Baptize a friend's baby. The Deacon's funeral went well, but it's another area of "sad" for me. I am looking forward to things to settle into the new normal. J has not found a new vehicle, but I think I am going to push him to figure it out...I felt like the tranny in the Explorer didn't want to work quite the way it should today.

Only breakfast plans right now for the weekend. Rich, another 9:00'er, and I will meet for b-fast tomorrow and then a friend and I will meet on Sunday morning for b-fast. I bet J will be annoyed, but he'll just have to get over it...it's been 5 months since I met with my friend. Life is just going by way too fast!

I think I'll let Calgon take me away for a while...actually wish I had some, but soaking in a hot tub will be very nice!

Have a good night!

Anne

Morning! I didn't get a chance to post yesterday AM before work and then forgot! The drive in was awful--just volume and fender benders so everything backed up but the weather was okay. I taught in the school house--the kids were more interested in that than the farm house. I get to use my switch! 2 classes--about 50 kids. Drove for 1.75 hours to teach for maybe 1.33 hours but get paid for 5. (They go to different stations and I just sit and read if they are not at my station.)

We had clouds but no rain till evening and no severe weather here. It was good sleeping weather but may be warm today--looks like upper 70s to mid-80s for the next couple of weeks.

Terri--you are keeping busy. I know June 1 is the official date--when do you think you'll be moving out there? And when listing the log house?

Lindie--hope you feel better. My DD3 was on meds--she didn't think she has actually kicked the last bout. I hope you do better on your quest to avoid plastic--it is really hard but I am also being aware.

Cathy--counting down! May did disappear too fast. And June already has lots of days scheduled so not sure it will take too long either!

Anne--glad you are around! Yes, projects take longer than we want! I have some work for Summer Sunday school at church--I am not looking forward to doing it....

Betsy--I know DH won't retire yet but I do hope he can slow down a little. At least recognize the asthma as real!! Avoid the bear but enjoy the other critters!

Hubby and I are going to sing a duet at church--either June 23 or 30. It is one we worked on several years ago--like 20--but still love. I need to dig out the digital piano to play his parts.

Bob's daughter handles his $$--and she lives in South Carolina so he does not want to live with her. She would take him in a heart beat. He wants to live alone but really cannot care for himself any more. He feels disrespected by the management/staff at the place and I do understand and pretty much agree with him. They do not respect these older adults--and could/should. But it might take them an extra 2 minutes and then they couldn't joke with co-workers so that doesn't work! I think people like to talk to me because I do listen and do respect them--they have some great stories. I go there today to see him and to sing with my folks.

Well--I need to go do my walk/run and listen to my Outlander books! And make coffee--I brought up my pot and made for yesterday's drive. I will make for today for after my run!

Hugs!

Dianne

Terri, hope you got that shirt done before they arrived. Hope the day with the grands was a good one. I don't know if I would be too thrilled to have those little turkeys around---LOL---but guessing it is because they are not set up to keep them warm at the new place yet. Have you picked the one for Thanksgiving yet? LOL I don't know how you will do everything next month---hard to believe that today is the last day of May.
Betsy, that is why a Kindle Fire would be perfect for you. You can sit on the couch with it and post to us---if you watch for a sale, you can get it for a really good pride---a lot less than a laptop plus you are like me, if you need a computer to print something, you have the computer to go to. Glad your dh is feeling a bit better. I have that same issue when I get a bronchial issue with asthma like symptoms as I start to heal---it is not fun! What is your dh doing to keep his kids occupied this last week? I know we will do ladybugs next week at least at the beginning of the week.
Anne, thanks for sharing my pictures. I hope they brightened your day! I sure do hope things slow down a bit---remember to say NO!
Dianne, too busy with the history teaching or just too frustrated after going yesterday?
Diego was back yesterday so I had to work more. Came home and would have gone out shopping as DH was going to a meeting. But it was so hot and good chance of storms so I just stayed home and chilled. It was nice to have the house to myself.
I just saw on the news stuff about the new Star Wars opening in California today---I so wish I could be there! LOL Now I have to seriously think about a smart phone---there is a special ap that you can use while in line for the places there that allows you to play a game as you wait that interacts with what is going on there----so cool!
It's Friday---the end of the month so a new chat tomorrow. Enjoy!

Cathy's flower gardens! How lovely!

Been busy with stuff I thought I'd be done with by now...wine tasting auction stuff & moving type stuff. I sure hope this crazy cycle ends soon! I'll try to get back tomorrow to catch up. Going to bed now! Have a good night!

Terri, did you finish the shirt? Good luck with the turkey poults. Are they noisy?

Cathy , I am allowed on the computer, I am just not used to it yet. The last six weeks or so have been crazy so chances are I am relaxing on the couch with DH when I post at night. My sister was supposed to visit this weekend but is now unable due to a very sad funeral, suicide of a 26 year old who worked for her husband. I am sad for the reason they will not come but relieved to have a free weekend, probably our last one for a long time. I want to spend time learning the computer, cleaning the house and possibly taking our neighbors to a supper club on Saturday night. DH has reported feeling better two days in a row but is still in need of two inhalers. I really think he has viral induced asthma like our DD1. His physical in two weeks will be telling.

Has anyone been keeping track/ watching Jeopardy James? After 31 days, he’s still going strong. His occupation is professional gambler, hope he does not gamble his winnings away!

I'm up early and have let the dog and cat out, emptied the dishwasher, and cleared some of the counter. I'm going to go back upstairs and see if I can finish my shirt this morning before the kids get here. They aren't early risers, so it will be mid-morning before they get here.

Steve brought home a large dog crate with young turkey poults in it last evening. We'll keep them here in the basement until they don't need the heat lamp any more, and then take them out to the ranch to go into a pen. I haven't kept farm animals in several years, so have to remember to check on them!

Lindie, I hope you're feeling better soon, along with Betsy's Dh.

Dianne and Anne, has your weather passed yet? I haven't looked at the national weather for a while and we don't have TV right now.

Cathy, these last 2 weeks will seem like months, I'll bet. I think June is going to fly by for us. The calendar is getting full and I still have to go to the canyon to mow a few more times.

Dianne, how sad for him---and hard on his dd---but it sounds like she would rather pay than have him at home---at least they are able to pay---those places are so expensive. It wouldn't be so bad if the quality of care matched their prices, esp. for someone who is ambulatory. Bet he was tough to live with though. Are you warm up there? A cool front is supposed to come in and cool us down to a bit more comfortable temps.
Lindie, sorry you have come down with something. Your hands are probably worse because of all the use at your old job. Do you find the weather affects them more?
Terri, men's junk is worse than ours---at least ours generally has a purpose----LOL----Glad your DIL is going to have help cleaning up the rental. Nice of you to move the freezers for them plus all the man cave junk. Hope you enjoy the grands while they clean and can finish that shirt.
Betsy, how come you are not being allowed on the new computer? Honestly, next time there is spare money I want you to spend it on yourself and get yourself something that only you can use, not any of the others. I think even my Kindles are easier to use than typing on a smart phone---and definitely bigger----LOL---but i know i can type faster on my computer keyboard than the tablet, too. But I do miss having word choices pop up at times.---Our teachers have to come back on that Monday the 17th but I am done on the 14th. Did he have bad kids this year or just more challenging things that the school makes one jump thru nowadays?
Good pool workout last night---they sent out a notice that the pool room was hot and humid---like duh, it is supposed to be that way--they aren't warming up the pool as much right now so we needed the warm air.
No Diego so it wasn't that difficult a day. We did Shark activities in the morning and independent work in the afternoon. Probably a repeat today. More work today for me if Diego comes.
Have a nice Thursday!

Hi! Sorry but I am on my phone again.
Linda, thanks for the tips. I will let you know when I try them. Also, I am a visual learner so the pictures were great.
Cathy, DH has six days with students, one without. It has been a very tough year for him so he is really looking forward to next weekend and believe it or not, working at the park.
Dianne, it would be great if you could come up here again but I understand if it does not work out.
Terri, I am glad you had an easier day. Moving is tough!
Anne, our church picnic season kicks off this weekend. If we go, we will think of you when we attend the basket raffle. When does the new priest arrive?
I thought I saw our old friend, the hawk last night around seven but when I went outside for a closer look, it was an owl! Today while all the children except the baby were sleeping, I looked out our front window and saw a mother duck and a dozen adorable little ducklings! Luckily, I did not see the bear that has been spotted very near here!

We helped move the freezers last night and the guys emptied Adam's "man cave" shed into the back of our pickup and we took that stuff out. It's definitely guy stuff because it all looked like junk to me. He had a few small motors and some parts for his water truck and his horse shoeing business and about a thousand other bits and pieces that I'm sure he and his boys love. At least it's gone from the rental. We got home after 10:30 and I headed straight to bed. I did remember to take some ibuprofen and slept well.

I've been in the sewing room all day, working on a flannel shirt for myself. So, yes Lindie, I'm resting. The most physical thing I've done today is water my plants and walk up and down the stairs a few times. Tomorrow I'm planning to keep the three adopted grands while their mom helps Sarah clean the rental. I may also have Sarah's 4 if their other grandmother is tired of keeping them.

Dianne, I'm sorry Bob is having a hard time right now. Is he aware of how his money is being disbursed? I'm sure you are very good company for him.

Steve mowed all morning and wore himself out. So he took a 2-hr nap in his chair and woke up when I went down to have lunch (at 3:45--I guess that will be dinner for me). Now he's gone down to the Hardware store to get some small piece that he needs. He wanted a project that wasn't too hard, so I suggested that he make up some bat houses and decide where to mount them and he said he'd do that next. We'll see. I want to give them someplace to go before we evict them from the house.

Time to get back to sewing so I can get this shirt put together tonight. If it fits well, I'll make another one.

Hi Anne, Cathy and Betsy!

emoticon still have a sore throat and cough now, now sinus issues and just took an adville to help with the aching in my hands - I notice it there now more then ever !

Got all my shopping and chores done, and did not buy over processed, packaged foods - if Gene wants that he can buy his own but boy oh boy beef and pork is so expensive - lamb always was course I buy New Zealand lamb -but might head to Whole foods and get some grass fed Salt Springs Island lamb this week.

Bought a new shower curtain, and mats with no plastic backing on them, went with a blue turquoise for the mats and a grey/white flowered pattern for the shower curtain. I was trying to find all cotton but nope got all polyester - I am trying not to buy material with plastics in them anymore as these are not good for the eco system and do not break down either .. hard though almost everything is polyester or has it in the mix ! The bath mats are cotton, from India ! Oh yea bought a new purse too, yup turquoise LOL

Dianne did you get that nasty weather ? We are cloudy in the morning but sunny and hot in afternoon !

Cathy, not long now, hang in there, and hopefully Joy gets back to you ok.

Terri, WOW - all I am gonna say, are you resting today ? Most likely not, how did the eye exam go and how is Aunt Donna doing ?

Anne, breath eh come up for air when you can, I know you like to keep busy.

Besty, when you see the purple box to the left of the screen, click that and you will have a menu pop up to turn the computer off - if its like mine ... when you click the home button and the menu comes up, just hover the mouse over the icons and it will tell you what they are, look for "power" and then select shut off or restart .. it will take time for you to get used to it, I think if your not used to these kinds of environments on the computer. Work was always different from home, but I managed lol See the pics and see if they help

Hi! I got to the gym this AM and then forgot to get back on here. I did laundry--got it folded. Went to the home--my buddy Bob is again worrying about his finances--his daughter pays for things but he doesn't want to hear that...so I just remind him that he has that insurance policy that is taking up the extra cost....he won't listen to that either. Poor guy--he has had a hard life. Grew up in Boston near the navy yards.

Terri--things are getting close! I do hope the move goes smoothly. Any buyers yet for the kids' house?

Betsy--I hope your weather starts being decent! We will be around in July but not sure if I'll be able to get up there.

Lindie--we had hot/humid but temps dropped about 10 degrees this AM and have been falling. I do expect some severe weather but not like the Midwest gets.

Cathy--my hostas don't get to grow--the deer eat them JUST before they blossom.

Tomorrow I go to the park to teach--let's hope the weather cooperates tomorrow!

Anne, sounds like a nice collection of plants. Make sure you don't plant the hostas too close together. Next year they will get even bigger so they will need room. Glad you got out and about. Those stores can tire you out. It is nice to have our own strawberries this year and enough that we don't have to go buy any this year except for that first 4 quarts. Almost too many to eat---LOL
Dianne, sounds like you were busy. Too bad you have to go back to that place this week. LOL to not being there for VBS. Timed that visit well! Hope dd3 didn't have any issues with rebuilding her computer.
Terri, wow, no wonder you couldn't sleep. Did you take any meds before you started all that exercise? Remember to do that and you won't be so sore next time. That was a lot of wood but guess he figures that he will have plenty to cut down on the new property for the future. Hope they get everything moved with no issues. How did Steve's eye appointment go? Glad you visited Aunt D.
Lindie, sorry it turned so cool but bet you prefer that over the hot. I know I do---but it won't turn too cool around here now for several months. Hoping it will not be super hot when up at Joy's but still not sure when I am going---she hasn't gotten back to me about the Maine trip yet.
Betsy, glad your dh is feeling a bit better but hope he doesn't overdo. How many more days does he have? Hope you don't pick it up from him.
No Diego yesterday so I had an easy day at school. I was able to help the other kids with their math which was nice. We went out for our normal Tuesday night out dinner. Going to be even hotter today and we have the pool tonight.
Have a good Wednesday----13 more days to go!

I am on my phone again listening to a recording of Jeopardy. James is on a roll with winnings of over 2,000,000 dollars! I haven’t learned how to turn the new computer off yet so DH did it before he went to bed. I am hoping to learn a lot more about our new toy this weekend.
Somebody asked what kind of computer we got and the answer is one that was built for us, just like before.
Cathy, DH has acute bronchitis and it has been awful but he ( knock on wood ) appears to be improving.
We did not do any of our routine weekend activities so we are playing catch up and it is time for me to switch the laundry and go to bed.

DS1 and son took the offer of the firewood and I decided to take Steve's truck and help them get more by using two trucks instead of just one. We ended up getting 10 truck loads of wood altogether! 4 came to our house and 6 to theirs.

There's still more wood to get and it has to be gone tomorrow or Thursday at the latest, because the kids want to be out on Thursday. I'm in town with Steve for his eye checkup today, but we'll grab gs and go back this afternoon to get more wood and see how we can help with the last of the move. Sarah is loading their camper today to get ready to live in it for a week or two while she gets the house ready to live in. Tomorrow, I think Adam will be moving their fridge and freezer out and will plug them in in the barn while they clean and make the place liveable for their family.

After we filled both trucks for the 5th time, DS1 was pooped and said he had other chores he needed to do before going back to work today. Adam was taking another load out to the ranch and Sarah was taking the boys' steers out to their friend's roundpen just to get them moved. They were going to try to get their own roundpen set up for their horses, so we decided to go and help. As it turned out, we invited the local grands to go with us and that gave us 3 more pairs of hands to help and we also got the stable set up! It was a huge job, but it went fast and was mostly done before Sarah got the steers dropped off. We kept the kids out too late, but they didn't mind and only one of them had to get up early to go to school. I am very sore today and didn't sleep well last night. I finally got up at 4 am and went to the sewing room to work. I was so sleepy on the way to town that I took a nap in the truck!

Lindie, is the bike set up and ready to pedal? We had some delivery guys that brought our washer and dryer out to the canyon for us and they stacked them for us, but Steve said that he could hook them up. As they were leaving, we gave them each a $20 tip to thank them and they backed up the truck and came back to hook it all up for us. Then they loaded up our old machines and hauled them off.

We're stopping at Aunt D's for a minute, so will post this now and try to check back later.

Morning! We did have a very quiet weekend--dinner with friends on Fri, exercise and cut up the tree that came down on Sat, church/choir on Sunday--I ended up being lay reader, hauled branches on Monday. Did grill 2x this weekend--and I am doing okay watching what I am eating. DD1 was just relaxing in Placerville, DD2 worked with her succulents--did lots of repotting, and DD3 is rebuilding her computer--haven't seen her on-line so hope it worked!

We made our plans to go to WI--I will fly into Chicago in July and go help my friend's wife with his office for 2.5 days--then hubby flies in and we'll go see my folks. I will be gone during our church vacation Bible school--oh, darn....they use a canned program and I do not like the super scheduled times--so I don't help with it. Kids have the attention span of a gnat and this panders to that.

Terri--glad you are making headway on the move to the ranch. Sounds like everyone has been busy!! Might not be a bad idea to have a buddy for Rosie to keep the deer at bay.

Cathy--we didn't get quite as hot as expected--and I am waiting for the storms today. My CSA starts today--I expect greens and more greens!

Betsy--glad your computer is up and working. Sorry it has gotten cold and wet again--my folks are also complaining.

Anne--Cathy's ideas do sound not expensive. Iris or something like that would also be pretty in the front--if you can get from someone. Glad you didn't have to work.

Lindie--that was nice of the guys to carry the bike upstairs. Sounds like you got to lots of fun places! Let us know how your sister does!

We did have a parade on Monday but we didn't go. The 2 bands march, Girl and Boy Scouts and then all the fire trucks from the many firehouses drive along and let loose with the sirens. Lots of parents bring ear protection for their kids. While I grew up with a parade (didn't happen in home town due to the weather), I dislike the sirens so we didn't go this year. Terri--I did grow up cleaning up graves and putting flowers out every year the weekend before Memorial Day--I remember my grandmother telling stories but she was working....Lilacs and bridal wreathe flowers in big juice cans for the weekend. And we did one grave that wasn't family but my grandmother was a friend--that one was unmarked so I don't think I could find it any more. I guess I will have to get to the cemetery this next trip--but I don't like it cause my parents' headstone is already there...I got pre-planning but this is a bit much....

Have a good short week! I work on Thursday, sing with my people on Friday and have stuff to do for church sometime this week.

Hi all!

Betsy, what kind of computer did you get? Glad DH rested; hope he does okay going back to school today! Did the Memorial Day service and picnic get rained out or did you just opt not to go?

Terri, glad you got some good rest! I think with all that moving work you needed it! Sounds like you had an enjoyable evening after all that work! Love that generations cleaning their families gravesites!

Cathy, thanks for the suggestions. J has his own brilliant ideas, but I was able to get him to pick up a few hostas (I love them...cheap, big, easy to split, cover a lot of area and look nice). Nothing like your own fresh strawberries! J never planted any, but I have had some from a friend's garden...they are just so much better than the supermarket ones! TV lately stinks! They seem to play the same movie over and over! Glad you had your DVD's!

Lindie, we have a butterfly place about an hour from us. I love sitting in their indoor garden room and watching all the different butterflies fluttering around. They are so colorful! I hope you were able to figure out how to cut out some of those unwanted calories and that they won't be missed!

Dianne, did you enjoy your quiet day yesterday? Any plans for the week?

We went to Lowes, Home Depot, and Briggs Nursery yesterday. Now we have a few pots of hostas, a grass, a lamb's ear (so soft!), an azalea, and one other plant. By the time we got home it was much later than originally planned, so J will have to keep them watered well and plant them next weekend (oh, please don't rain all next weekend)! It is sad how pooped out we get these days! I was really burnt out by the time we got home that I just wanted to go to bed! However, I did manage to stay up until 9:30.
The Deacon's wake, funeral, and work are this week's agenda...so far!

Have a good week!

Anne

Terri, I think there usually is something at the local VFW or American Legion places but no parade. Sounds like you got a lot done yesterday at the new place and glad you got to learn more about the guy you bought it off of. Sounds like you will be busy down there this week. With deer, you are going to have a hard time growing flowers are anything around the house unless Rosie is good at chasing them away. It might be a good idea to get a younger dog for both families to help keep the wildlife away from the 2 homes. Sounds like htere will be some good hunting on your land and lots of deer meat in the coming years. Yes, I have been to Anne's so I was trying to picture her house in my mind---it has been a while since my visit with Carol.
Betsy, I hope your dh was making lesson plans in case he needs to stay home again. Glad he took it easy but whatever he has, it sounds bad if he is still sick. Glad you enjoyed time with dd1. Is DD2 home from New York?
Guess the others found something to do yesterday. I did get some things straightened up in the house and floors swept and washed. Read some more and we ended up watching war movies on our DVD as AMC wasn't showing many yesterday---greatly disappointed in them as they usually do on Memorial Day.
Back to work today---and chance of storms so it will be hot and humid this week.

DH is on the computer so I am on my phone. We had a nice quiet day with our daughters and watched a recording of the Memorial Day program PBS aired last night. DD1 texted that she got home safely so we are now back to normal. We don’t have a Memorial Day parade but we do have a nice service in the park followed by a picnic. We usually go but since it was rainy and cold, we listened to patriotic music and played dominoes at home.
DH is still sick but rested a lot this weekend. We’ll see how he does back at work tomorrow.

I slept a full 8 hours last night and could have slept longer if my bladder had allowed it. I'm up and dressed and waking up now, though. Steve had a pot of coffee made, so I'm having a cup. We haven't been making coffee for ourselves since December, so this is different. It's tasty and will probably help me wake up faster, but it isn't any more satisfying than the hot water I've been sipping.

We went out to the ranch with the kids and took a load a firewood and pulled an empty box trailer. The trailer needs repairs, so couldn't carry a load. It just had to be removed from the rental property to the ranch, so we did that. DS2, DIL2, and their friend each took their own vehicles, pulling trailers loaded with something so it was a good haul. Then we went to dinner at the home of the friend's parents. The owner who recently lost his son was there for dinner as well, so we got to visit with him and get to know him a bit more. I think we're going to be friends in the long run. I sure hope so. He told me to come out any time and use the cabin, work in the yard, or whatever I want. He's trying to make our transition easier and is being as helpful as he's able under his recent circumstances.

I've known the parents of the kids' friends (where we had dinner) for 30 years and we like them. They are thrilled that we are moving out to the ranch and that our kids are best friends and that their grands call us "Nanny & Pop". Some of the lumber we used in building the log house was cut in their own sawmill and both Steve and DS2 have worked for them when their equipment was on a fire in that area, so the men had plenty to talk about! They are going to be a great resource for us as we acclimate to living off the grid again and establish ourselves at the ranch.

We didn't get home until 10:30 and I went straight to bed. We're going back out today and we'll help them set up the round pen for the horses and remove a hoop frame for an old greenhouse in an old garden area. I'm taking my weed eater and will do some work with that around the cabin and where I want to plant my new trees and garden. Steve and I are working on how to fence the garden because of the huge herd of deer that roam freely. It will be expensive, but should last for as long as we need it.

Working with the Master Gardeners gives you a lot of good ideas for plants, Cathy. I forgot that you'd been to Anne's house, so you have a visual of what she might be able to use at her house. My BIL planted some of those native grasses in his back yard and they look lovely. I'm sure they'd just look like weeds at my house because I don't do that kind of artistic planting. I have no eye for it, I'm afraid. I just plant things and hope they live and bloom. I'm sorry you're getting such heat this week. I'm afraid that California is going to go from winter to summer in a hurry this year. It's almost too cool to even plant things in the garden yet, but here it is, nearly JUNE! Oh well...

Anne mentioned a parade...do you all have Memorial Day parades and celebrations in your towns? We don't, but there will be a lot of activity at the local cemeteries. We have some local families whose tradition it is to clean and decorate the graves of family members on this weekend. One family packs garden and hand tools in several vehicles and a huge picnic lunch for everyone and they go from one cemetery to the next to clean and decorate their family graves. They've got 4 generations participating in this and great-grandmother sits in the shade and offers "suggestions" while she tells stories about the various residents of the graves. I love that. My family never did anything like that.

Time to change my laundry over and fold the dry. It looks like it's going to be a nice day for working outside.

Dianne, I am glad you got to go somewhere different and enjoyed yourselves. Your girls sound like they had things to do this weekend which is always nice to hear.
Anne, glad you chose not to stay home and went to visit family. Was it nice up there or still chilly? You can send cooler air my way---LOL Glad you don't have to work today and that you can figure out what to do with the front yard. How does the tall grass grow in your area---like pampas grass---you can put that at each corner. Your dh could build a nice sturdy trellis out front and you could plant a pretty climbing plant out there and make it a nice bed by putting some brick around it and a few annuals around the base of the whole thing. Just simple things like that can change the look of the front. You could also do the trellis thing beside a blank area of a house wall and do basically the same thing---the trellis would break up the blank wall nicely, especially if you painted or stained it differently from the house. You get a lot of sun up front, right? If you don't, you could plant hostas along your house and they would look nice and are cheaper than shrubs.
Terri, sounds like you will be busy. Sorry to hear of that man's son's death---such a horrible disease so probably a blessing for the family to not see him suffering anymore. Hope you don't overdo. Are they supposed to have their stuff out by June 1st?
Lindie, that was so nice of those men to bring it up to the apartment for you. Hope Gene uses it and that his ankle gets better. Did he hear if that contract got canceled? Sure hope he can continue the work he is doing since he likes it a lot better. I have 14 more days to work until summer break. No, I liked the cooler air at the beginning of last week much more than yesterday's heat. I only went outside to go to church and back in. It will be a hot one this week at school as our ac is not working properly. Hope your sister is able to finish up her points and gets the booklet she is aiming at. There is a new show on Animal Planet that is about the Aquarium in Georgia(I think that state). They have the African penquin there, too and they are adorable and so funny. That was on the first show of the season.
No plans for today---like usual---I wish we had something planned to do but where we would go would be too nuts on a holiday weekend.
We are getting a nice supply of fresh strawberries from our own plants now---yummy---almost too much for us to eat but not enough to really share with others, either. But I might take some to school for us to snack on tomorrow.
Remembering those who gave their lives so that we might have the freedoms we have. We take them for granted but without them we would not have them. emoticon

emoticon Oh its been a long short week, if that makes sense and I eventually stopped tracking, there was so much to do. Where do I begin, oh with the easier stuff LOL

Gene's bike came on Friday. He had to change the delivery time to 4PM as he had to go into work for a meeting - he was not happy but he's heard rumours of his company loosing this contract with the city and he maybe going back to what he was doing, I sure hope NOT ! The bike came around 2 pm and they were only suppose to deliver to the steps, not into the apartment, as their insurance does not cover for this. The two delivery personal must have taken pity on an old lady and a pencil thin man having to move this heavy box up the stairs and they did it for us, right into the apartment ! I thanked them, over and over and over - and they said the frame was together, we just had to add the other parts. Gene got to working on that and I had printed up the manual but one came with it - and he watched videos on Utube - when ever something did not think right or go right, he stopped, sat and looked at the videos again or re read the instructions. Its not a low rider like my old recombend was so I don't like it haha .. but I will use it. It comes with its own built in programs but they do try to get you to get a membership with iFit - personal coach non sense - always a free trial then have to buy, so we elected not to do that. I've been on it 2 x today and will slowly build up my speed and resistant bands on it.

My sister is still working on her contest, and today she and her son, his girl friend, and my daughter went to Capilano Bridge - it swings over the valley and I said NO to that right away lol besides yesterday we went to Stanley Park and it poured all morning but by the time we got going, the rain stopped, however it was still damp. We did the horse and carriage ride which was really nice, then the kiddies train - not so nice - she only has to the end of May to get some more stamps, and will hit up some of the hotels that are offering - but that's it for me. WE did get to see some cool things for next to free and I hope she gets the booklet from the contest so we can go to some of them again.

Wed was aquarium day with friends and we had a great time, spent all day out there. Amazing Amazon butterfly display there, they checked you to make sure none of the butterflies landed on you before leaving the area. The sloughs were sleeping and 1 parrot was out and the monkeys were very playful too - the bats were flying around in their enclosure and of course the sealions were quite vocal and the otters were playful as well but the hi light for me was HOPE the African Penquin - she was awesome and so cute ! interacting with her trainers, but at one point she would not go into the carrier cage and another trainer came and led her to the elevator and out of the area - everyone laughed at that.

I need to look at my food journal on here and see where I can adjust my food and calories. I already interchanged coffee cream - 120 calories for 3 coffees for a coconut/almond coffee creamer that is only 5 calories per table spoon - and I like it so that is a win/win and now to find some more.

So you all have been busy busy busy !

Terri I hope the continued move to the ranch continues to go smooth and that the leak has been fixed, pace yourself, don't try to keep up with those two DIL's ! Glad the graduation went well.

Anne, glad to hear from you, it takes time to adjust to new people, I imagine the new priest will be just as flustered in adjusting to new surroundings and new people, but your the queen of hospitality and hopefully he fits in just nicely. Did you enjoy your time up north ?

Betsy, I so dislike windows 10 that I never put it on my back up lap top is still windows 7 which I liked best. I forget what we used at work. The young ones tend to like windows 10 - Charise does and I always ask her when mine is doing strange things. Also it does upgrades ALL the time and they are LONG and unfortunately necessary ! I tend to do my upgrades at night so I am not waiting in the morning to use the computer... just an FYI on that one ...Glad your graduate did well too !

Cathy, glad you got the pollen cleared off and now your too hot, weren't you too cold earlier in the week ? LOL - We had rain all weekend which is typical for the Victoria Day weekend. How many more days ?

Off to look at my tracking, have a good one all !!

Welcome back Betsy! You've been missed! I saw the photo of you and J with your graduate. Very nice picture!

Anne, I hope you have a pleasant and peaceful day. May the company of friends cheer you.

We don't go out often either, Dianne, and never just for drinks. Of course, in our tiny hamlet, the local bar is more of a pool hall-beer joint. We used to go out to a dance once in a while when a local organization was having a fundraiser. That was fun, but we didn't drink while there and usually left to come home about the time those who WERE drinking got up enough courage to get on the dance floor. What are your kids doing in Placerville this weekend? I'll bet it's still pretty up there with the recent rain. It was on the edge of turning brown when I left, but I know they've gotten more rain since then.

I was SO glad Steve got the roof put back together yesterday. DS1 & son (Pablo) had borrowed our truck to make a dump run and stayed to help Steve when they got back, so it went back together quickly. Then it started to rain! It could've been a big hassle if he'd have had to try to tarp it. We're going to pull a loaded trailer out to the ranch this afternoon with the kids. They'll have 3 or 4 trailers loaded and this should about be the last of the outside stuff. The owners are still not out yet, so we can't start cleaning anything or moving much out of the house. I'm going to ask the other owner (occupant of the cabin) if I can come out tomorrow and start cleaning in there. It's not nearly as bad, but hasn't had a woman's touch in a long time. I'd start with the kitchen and bathroom. I don't know how many of his things are still there, but I don't think he's had much time to think about moving, as his son passed away about 2 weeks ago after a long battle with ALS. I wouldn't expect him to be very worried about anything else. I suspect the cabin is pretty much as it was the last time I was in there.

Time to change the laundry over. We've been invited to join the work party for dinner at a friend's house tonight, so we'll likely go. She's making spaghetti, which isn't on my eating plan, so I'm really hoping she has a salad to go with it. I'll eat before I go at any rate.

Terri, so glad the fixes are easy ones. That light sounds interesting. Your DIL's seem to be very super efficient...that will help their causes over the next couple of months!

Betsy, glad your computer is up and running. I am not a fan of the change Windows did after Windows 98, I think, or whatever year they made it work like you were on a tablet. That was part of why I chose to go with the MacBook. When J asks me to find things on his computer (Windows) I have a difficult time.

Cathy, too bad that the porch gets so hot, especially now that it is clean of pollen! Is is cooler and usable in the evening. Glad the new student is doing well. Hope he gets the IEP that he needs!

Dianne, glad you and DH had an enjoyable evening. We don't go out for drinks, mostly because I do not drink and do not enjoy the drinking atmosphere. Enjoy your relaxing day!

Lindie, hope things are going well!

We are going to NH to visit my cousin once the dryer gets our jeans dried. I was originally going to skip it and just be lazy here, but decided it would be better to be with others. We did a lot of yard work yesterday, but still need to figure out how to make the front of the house less
barren for not a lot of money! That will be tough, lol!

I do not have to work at the gas station tomorrow either! Yay! However, I do have Mass duty in the morning, so I will be heading up to the church around 8, but home by 10. Not sure if I will attend the Memorial Day parade...our senior Deacon passed away last Thursday and he would always do roll call. Plus, Fr. B used to take part in it, too. I don't think I want to deal with more sad than I am dealing with. Thus, why I am going North for the day...get away from sad!

Dryer just buzzed...so off we will be going in a few! Have a great Sunday!

Anne

Morning! We had a nice day--quiet but that was fine. We did go out to a new local brewery--tried one flight of their 11 beers--do had 4 small glasses and then got an extra just because the bartender wanted us to try it. It was nice--not too loud, reasonable $$ and I got out to be among people doing something fun! Hubby doesn't do that much anymore--we go out for dinner but not out for a drink.

Terri--glad to hear the leaks weren't too bad! You are busy--even if just trying to keep track of what is going on with the DILs and kids. Glad Ben liked his graduation cap! That was a cute idea. I have put the girls' tassels in big clear ornaments and marked what school, year and degree on the outside with a gold pen--then they know where they have their graduation tassels.

Cathy--I didn't sit outside yesterday but we did cut up a tree that had fallen over in our back area. They have already picked up the brush--of course--so we have to haul it to the area ourselves. That will be today's project. Not sure when we will get it dumped but... Your flowers sound pretty! We have an alarm on the freezer and I am going to be watching for a new/cheap one.

Anne--hope all is fine with you and you aren't doing too much!

Betsy--saw the photo on FB--you look good! I hope I have started to drop some of this weight but time will tell! Today's number was better than yesterday's! My baby brother turned 50 yesterday--guess they took over a bar for a party.

Lindie--hope all is well for you, too.

DD1 is in Placerville this weekend (near Terri's canyon house), DD2 is relaxing and DD3 is driving to visit friends and a Ren Faire today--tomorrow is her computer project. And we will just relax....

Anne, the new kid is fitting in well. I think he is glad the work is so easy---LOL And he has learned to joke along with me. Sure hope the Father has moved all his stuff this weekend so you can really clean the other rooms for the new priest. So glad you are getting another one and hope that you like him. I hope you are not expected to arrange what mess the Father makes with moving his stuff. Guessing you will have to run in on Monday to the station but hope you have some relaxation time this weekend.
Dianne, are you having warm weather today? Hope your freezer does not give up the ghost when you don't realize it. I know we are very happy with our smaller size front opening freezer. With just the 2 of us, we still need that extra freezer space.
Terri, good idea to wait to plant them until you can decide the best place to plant them. So glad the fix on the roof was an easy fix. We have that same light you are talking about in our kitchen---Michael found it for us and put it in for us---it makes the kitchen very bright and looks so much better than what we had before. How are you coming on downsizing your place? Will you go help your DIL clean or go supervise the kids when she is at the old place? I hope you are making headway.
Betsy, glad you got the new computer up and running. Getting online and posting is not that hard---let the others figure out the other stuff on their own time---LOL
I got the front porch cleaned up and hosed down---I even spent some time out there yesterday after the pollen was gone. We went to Lowe's and I found the hanging plant I wanted for a planter and the hanging basket that I wanted ---actually got 2 of them---one in orange and the other in a flower that is yellow with wine stripes on them. They are purselane---in the same family as portulaca but with wider leaves. It was a lovely day and we hosed off the furniture and wiped off the pollen out there on all those things.
Going to turn hot today so when I leave for church I will shut the house up and turn the ac on---this week looks like it will stay hot---about normal for after a Memorial Day weekend.
Have a good day!

emoticon We are back in business BUT we ae going through a trial and error period as we adjust to Windows 10 among other things. Today we had a graduation party for one of my former very special charges and tomorrow is DS's belated birthday celebration. Monday is the Memorial Day service and some time with DD1 before she goes home. It is SO nice to see her more often. DH is waiting to try out our new toy and DD2 needs my help choosing a baby shower gift so I must go but within a week or so , I should be back to regular posting.

Cathy, thanks for the encouragement re: the fruit trees. I'm keeping them watered and out of the afternoon sun until I see leaf growth. I figure that we may have to prune the tips if they're dried out, but will wait to see. I plan on planting all of these things out at the ranch once the kids get settled and we are more "at home" out there. We'll have to see where things will go best, I think. We've already change our minds about the location of my garden, so it's clear that we'll have to get to know the place a little bit before establishing a permanent orchard and garden. I'll put my greenhouse together out there, but not this season.

Steve has the leaky shower plumbing fixed and the hole in the pantry ceiling will be covered by a new kind of light that DS1 has recently discovered. It's LED and comes in sheets like the ceiling tiles in industrial or office buildings. The sheets look just like the ceiling tiles that go into a framework, but these are lights so they look like skylights. Steve can put that over his access hole to cover it and it will be removable if anyone ever needs to get back up into that spot. The leak on the roof has also been explored and found to have minimal water damage--PTL!! I actually got emotional when he told me he was ready to put things back together and didn't have to do any structural repairs from dry rot. There was some, but it was superficial and just needed some new sheeting. He sees what failed and says it's an easy fix now that he sees what was happening. I had visions of a repeat of the roof repairs on the other house and am just so grateful that it won't be.

Both of my DILs are real dynamos and can work circles around almost anyone I know. DIL1 has her own house cleaning business and is super fast and thorough. DIL2 is super organized and is always planning about 10 steps ahead and is able to envision how things should be set up. I always let her arrange the tables/furniture for gatherings at my house. She's great about giving the kids jobs to do and they are pretty good helpers. Some more than others, but they are still kids. They have lots of animals to care for and clean up after, a huge yard and orchard to care for (and Ben also takes care of several neighbors' yards) and they help split and stack firewood and all manner of country-living routines. Their plan for today is to disassemble a hoop-frame greenhouse at the ranch and set up the round pen for the horses in that spot. They may also set up the panels for the steer stalls and shelters, so they are ready when the animals are moved. These stock panels are quite handy when you have to move pens!

Ben has already gotten his truck re-wired and replaced enough parts to get it running--but just running. It won't be ready for the road for some time, but he's really serious about doing his own work and has replaced an alternator and some other things on his own. He's very proud of his project and we praise him all the time for his work ethic and ingenuity. For his graduation, we bought him the ball cap with the Chevy logo on it and just before we left the house to meet them for dinner, I dug my graduation cap out of my cedar chest and put my tassel on his cap. You should have seen the look on his face!! It was priceless and such a hit! He gave the tassel back to me at the end of the evening, but said he loved it--and the hat. So funny!

Anne, it's nice to see you coming up for air. Did you have to repaint the rooms before the Fr J moved over? I thought you'd mentioned before that it would need painting, but haven't read any more about that. Did you finally get all of Fr B's things to him or to storage? How did all of that play out with the fabric and Christmas decoration things? Did the secretary come and get them or were they tossed? I hope you click quickly with the new priest and that he appreciates all your love and care for them. I'm glad the fundraiser was such a success.

Dianne, you might be able to find a decent used freezer if you look on Craig's List or some such site. We found a free refrigerator for Steve's aunt and uncle when they moved back to Placerville. Their tenant had SOLD the one they'd bought for the rental! Can you imagine? Anyway, the free one worked nicely for them until they could get back on their feet and buy a new one.

Morning! Off to the gym but---my professor taught my industrial engineering and operations research classes--he is still teaching both undergrads and graduate students, doing outside research and being an expert for conferences, etc. Such a sweet man! We had 1 school with about 50 kids on Thursday--but paperwork says 100 so they have enough "stations" to handles 100 kids--then we get 25 in the AM and 25 in the PM and sit around bored. Management doesn't know what they are doing. No other visitors stopped in--I guess Wed they had some family units in the midst of the school groups. DD2 had a good birthday and had a pot-luck party for her chorale end of year last night so her celebrating continued!

Terri--wow--your DIL has LOTS of work going on. I hope the kids step up and help some! How your weather holds--DD1 says it has been great where she is--cool. She is heading to Placerville today for the weekend.

Cathy--do your kids have to take the standardized tests? In NJ, EVERYONE has to take them so teachers are freaking about all the kids covering the materials. I am guessing your state does it differently .... They will learn something with you teaching.

Anne--glad to hear you are doing okay. Not sure if you EVER get any down time. I hope you have some time off on this long weekend.

Lindie--hi!

Betsy--I hope someone has taken pity and helped you! I do think hubby could make a difference by helping people decide what they need, ordering it, setting it up and getting folks going on a new computer--but it is our over-50 age group that needs it! And we will be disappearing! Hugs? Yes, when does DD2 come home? Our weather has been "varied" but not quite like WI!

Off to the gym. Freezer is acting up--we may need a new one and I do need one! Or we'll borrow from the pastor--they empty theirs each year in June so maybe they would have space. I will get a smaller one if we have to buy a new one.

Hi all!
Terri, sorry about the leaks. I think I would like the extra lighting in the pantry! Hope the roof leak is a quick and easy fix! Best wishes to the movers! I am sure everyone will be very happy once they are settled in their new home!

Dianne, bummer that the weather was so lousy when you had to drive to the park. Did you still have visitors come? Happy b-day to your DD2!

Betsy, sorry about your computer woes! Hope you are able to get it up and running soon! Is DD2 still in NY? Hope DH is on the mend, or finally back to much more healthy state!

Cathy, is the new student being accepted by the others? Did the IEP meeting go well? I am sure everyone is counting down the days, maybe even the hours with school ending so soon!

Lindie, you sure had some wonderful trips with your sister! I hope she wins the challenge! When will she know? Did Gene get the bike set up?

I can't believe I how busy I have been this week! I really thought rectory life would slow down...but noooooo! It is getting there, though. If Fr. J was staying in his rooms it would be almost back to the new normal. The new priest won't be moving in until after the 1st...thank goodness! Fr. J still has a lot of things to move to his new rooms. Hopefully he will get some of that done this weekend!

Part of this week's busy was the fundraising team correspondence and trying to finalize some of the numbers from the fundraiser. I think we are in good shape...just need to send thank you's to the donors, but we want a final figure so it can be included in the notes. I just emailed all the people (including the 4 or 5 that didn't make it) a thank you with a feedback request. I hope I get some responses since their responses won't be anonymous to me.

I am grateful to all those who gave for my freedom and this holiday weekend to honor them! No plans yet!

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Anne

Dianne, yuck to a miserable day at that place. But it does sound like you had a nice visit with your professor. What subject does he teach? My pool friend Nancy's dh was a professor at SU and just retired from the business teaching staff last year. They do tend to stay a long time as professors. Sorry that dd2 can't come home this weekend but then the traffic might be horrid if she did.
Terri, good idea for Steve to leave it as a door for access Hope the roof isn't too bad a fix. I feel bad for your DIL---all that cleaning, packing, organizing, etc. She must be exhausted. Like you I hope her health holds up but I think she deserves some kind of 2 or 3 day away from it all after she is finished just to rest and relax but sounds like she is not the kind to do that. Guessing we won't hear a lot from you as we all know you will pitch in and help as much as you can. Those trees should be okay---it's okay that they are behind the others. They will catch up more next year and grow at the same time the others do. Are you going to plant them at the new place? sounds like a pleasant time with your aunt and the family that moved to the coast. Glad she is doing well where she is at and has friends to do things with. Congrats to Ben and hope he gets that truck up and running by the time he can get his license.
I took the easy route yesterday with the kids. Had them create an ocean picture with things they had colored the day before---some still had things to color too. So it took the whole morning for them to complete before we went to specials. After lunch we just had free time. Another teacher invited us outside to a cookout and my kids enjoyed that for a bit. The only thing they had to do when they got back in was to make Thank You cards for that teacher before they could get back on the tablets. It was an easy day and I think the kids enjoyed everything. Looks like I will be teaching most of next week, too. Doing sharks next week.
Hope to clean off the front porch today. Turned the ac on yesterday afternoon---just too warm in the house to be comfortable.
Have a good Saturday!

Yes Cathy, there is flashing around everything that should have it. I haven't been up on the roof, so don't have a visual of the situation but Steve will figure out what went wrong when he gets up there and starts working on it. I just feel bad that it's one more thing on top of everything else.

Dianne, that computer business sounds like a good idea for dh's retirement. People will always need a little help with setting things up. Sorry your work day wasn't more enjoyable.

My last bareroot plants arrived yesterday--3 pear trees and 4 grape vines--and we've got them all potted and watered in. It's late in the season, so I got them at half price, but all the other trees are fully leafed out and these are just budded. I hope they do okay.

One more week before the kids move out to the ranch. My poor DIL has been packing up their house for weeks and moving things to storage so she can get ahead of it, all while keeping up with their 4 kids, finishing school for the year, dealing with Blaine's broken arm and all the dr appointments and PT afterwards, acquiring their 4H animals and dealing with sick pigs and now the one that needed surgery--AND it was time for Blaine to get the first set of braces on his teeth.

They'll be living in their camper for a week or two at the ranch while they make the transition. She'll have to clean their rental and do the walk-through with the landlord to get their deposit back. Then she'll have to clean the barn house before moving in because there's no way the departing owners are going to do it, as they aren't physically able. DIL2 will scrub and clean and paint before she moves in. I hope her health holds in the meantime. She's seriously sensitive to pesticides and it seems like people are spraying all around her neighborhood. It makes her sick and gives her horrible headaches and insomnia. She'll probably be a lot better once they're out of the rental and out at the ranch full time.

We went to the coast last evening to watch Jasmine's school play with Aunt D. We went to dinner before, so had a good visit with her. She's doing well at her little apartment and has a very busy schedule with her group of friends. They go out a couple of times a week to play Bingo and do things at local senior centers, plus getting together to play cards at the apartment. It's nice to see her doing so well on her own after the ordeal with that so-called "caregiver" who stole from her.

Steve is fixing the leaky shower drain today. He had to cut a large access hole in the pantry ceiling so he could get to it, but will replace it with a "door" for future access--just in case. Now he has to figure out how to light it because the old light won't work anymore. We're thinking about 2 lights on either side of the door rather than one, since the pantry is shallow and wide.

I need to figure out what to make for lunch. We're going to dinner tonight with DS2's family, his inlaws and our adopted grands to celebrate Ben's completion of 8th grade. It will be small and just immediate family, but he'll appreciate the recognition. He's worked hard and gotten all A's on top of his side jobs and farm chores. He has an old Chevrolet truck that he bought with his lawn mowing money that he's been working on to restore, so we bought him a ball cap with the Chevy logo embroidered on it. His dad said he'd love anything "Chevy".

Happy Friday everyone. I hope your weekends are restful.

Morning! The drive up to work and back was awful. The rain kept traffic tied up. The kids were late--as usual and I had maybe 6-7 groups for 12-15 minutes each--but worked 4.5 hours. So I was bored. I did go see my graduate school professor--he is still teaching, still wonderful. We chatted for 2 hours! He had one of the books I worked on for AT&T on his shelf! Made me feel good!

No company this weekend and no plans either. Should be nice. My iris are blooming--they look great.

Terri--sorry about the leaks but now you know and can deal with them before selling. Glad the grands did some useful work! Rosie better?

Cathy--hope you have a nice weekend--yes, stay away from Ocean City! Just like we stay away from the shore.

Betsy--hard drives just go. Hubby wants to do a business of setting up computers for people who just need a little help--like my mom. Too bad we are too far away.

Anne and Lindie--hi!

Off to the gym and then the nursing home. Likely having dinner with the parents of the groom from last weekend.

Terri, isn't there flashing around the chimney? That is needed to prevent that from happening. I learned that from my oldest son. Sorry that Steve now has more roofing work to get done this summer. Hope the leak is an easy fix and that he can do it without more issues showing up. Nice that the grands can haul the branches down the hillside for you. Good thing you have all your stocked up goodies to feed them with.
Dianne, hope it wasn't too bad and hope they actually showed up yesterday.. My youngest is that old now. Will she be coming home this weekend?
Betsy, you need your own computer so the rest of them don't mess it up---LOL I don't understand how the hard drive can crash unless you all do or save too much but then I don't understand the computer all that well anyhow. I know Michael bought himself something to plug in to his so that he wouldn't overload his computers because he does do a lot of business stuff on his.
Anne, you have any plans for the weekend?
Lindie, do you have plans with your sister or are the trips done with and did she earn all her points?
No plans here for the weekend. One thing we won't do is go anywhere near Ocean City---LOL We did get a nice rainstorm last night but thinking we will water on Saturday so they can get thru the hot weather on Sunday. I know Dh will gril out at least one day if not all weekend.
It's Friday---yippee!

We had all 6 grandsons here yesterday and they were able to be outside most of the day. Steve ran the vacuum cleaner, brushed Rosie and gave her a bath and I caught up all the laundry and kept the food coming all day. I was able to use up a few things in my fridge and pantry and kept everyone fed. Steve had pruned a bunch of lower limbs off the cedars in front of the house so that we can see under them and make the hillside more fire safe, but he hadn't removed them so I had the boys drag them down and pile them up in a place where he can get to them with his tractor. He'll move them to a burn pile later, but having them down off the steep hillside is a huge help.

We went to change a light bulb in the pantry and found water in the glass cover coming from a leak under the upstairs shower!! The plumbing runs between the floors, so it could be a big mess to fix it--OR it might be a matter of tightening the nut where it connects to the shower drain. He had to cut a hole in the pantry ceiling to see everything, but is hoping for the easier fix, obviously. And he also found where the water was coming from at the skylights. It's been coming from the chimney where there isn't an eave and the water was getting under the shingles. That's going to be a big deal to repair, but at least he now knows where the leak is coming from. Another summer, another roof job...

Morning! Rain here--my plants are glad but I am not as I have to drive up to the park and traffic is AWFUL already. I got most of what needed doing done--good enough! Today is my 2nd born's birthday--she is actually 29!

Betsy--sorry about the computer. They are lots cheaper but still not cheap! And I hope DH will REST!

Cathy--hope your day goes okay. The HS my girls went to had a gas leak on campus last Friday and had to close, then a power outage on Monday for 1/2 day but they stayed open cause couldn't afford another day to make up! So--at least you have school and don't have to make it up! LOL

I will need to get going sooner today than I like. Sigh.... Catch everyone later!

Dianne, my mom didn't go to the rehearsal but we planned for who would walk her down the aisle along with Taylar's grands. Guess they didn't have anyone helping them organize things that had been to weddings before. Did you get your housework done? I need to plan a day for that as dh is not doing his job without a lot of prompting and I am getting tired of doing that.
Anne, sorry you lost your post---miss you but figured you must have been very busy.
Guessing Betsy is super busy or maybe she caught what her dh has.
I am back to teaching again----the new student requires an IEP meeting so she has been preparing for that--at least the meeting is today and tomorrow is Friday so we won't do much tomorrow anyhow. Pool workout last night. Nothing planned for tonight!

Morning! Cool here--wore a light sweater all day yesterday. Today is housework day--yech.

The couple had been living together for at least a year--and neither of them had ever been to a wedding. Not sure why they spent the $$ the way they did--the caricaturist REALLY wasn't a necessity but the brides' side was certainly standing in line to get one. The seating got sorted out but it wasn't well planned--they did rehearse but guests didn't go to that so...I loved looking at some of the clothes--the brides' friends wore some over-the-top things! And shoes with 5 inch heels....

I have driven the bridge-tunnel. That bridge is low to the water--doesn't bother me. I think if the 2 bridges had been side-by-side, I would have been okay but seeing the other direction....that bothered me. Talked to someone else who has driven that and she doesn't like it either! That was a new route for me.

Terri--never a dull moment with pigs, dogs or kids! Hope the pig and Rosie are okay. Your kids will miss you being able to take all the kids at a moment's notice. Enjoy your overalls!

Cathy--wish there had been a bit more of the spring-like weather on Sunday! We did enjoy the visit with DD3--and she really did spend time with us. I'll see her now in August. We do have stuff to take to her but likely wont' happen this year. So I will have to ship her a winter coat--she has been wearing her ski jacket for everything. I think I can get it into a flat rate box--or both into a bigger box--they are mostly air! LOL

Today--laundry and housework. Hope everyone is doing okay!!

Dianne, why wasn't the grandmother escorted down front and those spaces saved for them? Doesn't sound like they rehearsed or prepared well. Also sounds like most of the money was spent on the alcohol and not the food and reception. Not surprised it was over early as venues there often have one in the afternoon and then another in the evening---you only get so many hours for what you pay---and not cheap around DC either. But at least you got to spend time with your dd3. Too funny about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Some people are afraid of driving over it and have to pay someone to ferry them across. That used to be done by the state workers for the bridge but they stopped doing that and now you pay if you need that service. I don't mind driving across but hate when they make the new span 2 way instead of one way, then I drive on the outside and not the middle lane. I am guessing you have never been that way before. Have you even been on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel? Now they don't have the stopping place on the bridge---I always enjoyed stopping and was a good time for a break on our travels. Sounds like you have a busy week ahead now that dd3 has returned home.
Terri, enjoy the new bib overalls. Did you get all your errands run? What will you work on now? I could have used a light jacket yesterday---it was much nicer yesterday and Spring like weather. It must have been really cool there. Hope the pig doesn't cost too much--guessing it is too late for her to get another animal. How is Rosie now? Hope no trip to the vet is needed. Are you making another appointment for the cat to be fixed? LOL
NOrmal day at school, although one kid was a very angry child yesterday and not following directions---not a norm for him. I did do one lap around the track with the kids---the other assistant started them there but the teacher needed his imput on what happened with the mad kid--so I took over---glad I only did one lap but it did help limber me up some.
I came home and planted the new plants I had bought on Monday, put the windmill where I wanted, and planted the 2 geraniums. Dh planted the new rose bush. I do need one more plant for one pot---need a trip to Lowe's to find that one---where I got it last year. Also hoping to find a hanging basket of a certain flower for the deck.
Dh had cut up all the strawberries that we bought the other day and he also found half a basket or our own strawberries ripe enough to eat---looks like we will be eating a lot fo strawberries for the next few weeks. YUM!
Have a good Wednesday.

Dianne, was it a low-budget wedding? If so, I guess the features you mentioned make sense, but it kind of sounds like a pretty non-traditional ceremony. Had the couple been living together already? Not that it always makes a difference, but it might make everyone feel more casual about the whole affair. At least you had a good time with DD3 anyway.

We had a productive day in town and got a lot done. Adam and Sarah are taking the full trailer to the coast tomorrow and will unload it for the owners at their storage facility. I hope it isn't pouring rain like it was today. They also have to take a pig to the vet for some minor surgery. Rylan's 4H pig had a cold and coughed so much that its rectum prolapsed! I didn't know that could happen! I guess it's not uncommon and can sometimes be corrected by using Preparation H after pushing it back in -- SERIOUSLY??? Sarah tried, but it didn't work; so, it's off to the vet now to save this expensive pig. I hope it ends up being a good one. All that is to explain why I'm keeping their 4 kids tonight so they don't have to take them all to town tomorrow. We have Tim too, because he's been working at their old house, splitting firewood for his dad to get the back yard cleaned up. They have had a few people look at their house, but no takers yet. Now Jenny's thinking about renting it as an Air B&B instead of taking long-term tenants because it will still be up for sale and easier to show if it's not rented. I hope it works out for them.

Cathy, I wore a sweater and a warm vest to town today and had the vest on and off all day. I was very glad to have the warm sweater, though. The weather ranged from partly cloudy to torrential rain all day.

Rosie is limping again and Steve thinks she reinjured her leg because she had been back to normal while I was gone. I hope it's not another trip to the vet. It's not keeping her down like before, so we'll just keep an eye on it for now.

I've been wanting some new bib overalls for some time, so we went to the "working man's" store today and I bought some. They are so comfortable to work in--I can't wait. No more having my t-shirts pull up when I bend over to pull weeds or plant something! I think I might even get me another pair so I have a spare. When the first grands were babies, I'd loosen the straps on the bib and put the babe down the front and carry them that way for hours. The first time I did it was when Jenny and I were trying to do some sewing (probably Christmas dresses for her little sisters) and 2-month old Shelby just wanted to be held. I told Jenny, "Let me try something..." and it worked so well that I did it with all of them until I outgrew the bibbies (thanks a lot menopause...@%#$&) Now Shelby is 21 years old!

Morning! The weekend went fine. Drove down on Sunday--arrived at our hotel about noon and we were able to check in and get dressed so that was great. The wedding was to be held outside and it was about 80-85. I went to grab seats--we sat in the shade! They switched bride/groom side--so family could see the face of their person--and that gave us the shady side! BUT her family thought they could have BOTH sides--an uncle spoke to them to get seats for the mother/father of the groom and grandmother. Bride arrived late--2:00 wedding started at 2:35. My DD3 ended up decorating the gazebo with the tulle--2 groomsmen came out to try but she ran the show. She regards the groom as her little brother. The wedding was nice--but no mention of God or any prayers at all--makes me sad cause he was raised at least some in the church....

After the wedding, into the building for the reception--bar had alcoholic slushie drinks, wine, beer and iced tea. Two appetizers came around and there were veggies and cheese. We went in to the dining room--had salad, chicken on skewers, some tortellini and rolls--turns out THAT was dinner. Then they cut the cake, did some dancing, had a photo booth. Her side seemed to disappear quickly. And many of the Jersey folks drove home Sunday night--we would have had we known reception would be done by 6. We went back to hotel, swam a bit and went to bed by 9 cause DD3 wanted to be back to NJ by 11. We made it--Cathy, we drove past Annapolis and took a BIG bridge--I I decided I did NOT like that one--felt nervous on it cause we were WAY up in the air over the water. Hubby opted in all cases to pay the extra EZ Pass toll to bypass the normal lanes--good thing cause they were way backed up due to crashes.

We got home, got pizza for DD3 and took her to the train instead of driving another 2 hours. She was fine with that and she was home by 8:30 last night. I picked up the practice grands at 3 and will again today. Turns out our friends are NOT going to MI this weekend to square dance--they are the parents of the groom and I thought they had bit off a bit too much to drive 8 hours each way just to square dance for 2 days....so I have to go get the bookcase for DD3 and figure out how we'll get the stuff she did decide she wanted out to her. Glad they took stuff last month--she got one bookcase and a chair.

Lindie--thanks for the map. DD1 did say something about a sea wall. We will need to start thinking more about that trip now! Good luck to Gene--he likely should have done whatever but he is a big boy to make his own decisions.

Terri--you have been busy--Steve, too! I know my DD1 has said the weather is actually being weather! She should live in the Midwest cause she likes storms... Glad you can help them get moved out.

Cathy--happy anniversary. DH loves SAS shoes--we would buy some when we went to San Antonio and yes, they are not cheap but are good shoes and worth the money. I have one lovely iris--a lavender with orange beards. Had to pick it since it was too heavy and laid right over on the ground. I have 3-4 more that will be blooming. I do have lots of the plain purple ones--they are pretty but I paid big $$ for these colors! (I am not very pleased with Breck's as a source of iris.)

Betsy--oh, no! I hope DD2 has a good trip--it will be upper 70s this week. And no DS? We have missed many birthdays so I do understand missing that first one... Your DH is also a big boy but he is making some poor decisions...The HS had a gas leak on the campus last Friday so had to close and then lost power for 1/2 day yesterday but they didn't stop school yesterday--they don't know yet if they have to make up the gas leak day--what a mess. Elementary school is done here June 18.

Anne--WOW for the fundraiser! You really worked hard! I hope you are feeling more relaxed now. Are musical bedrooms all done? I hope you are getting "spring" now. It was hot yesterday but cooled off nicely and we did not turn on the AC. I had to find blankets in the night--they had made it to the floor and I needed them about 3 AM! (Phone rang--just once. Anthony Plumbing--phone scammers--ARG!)

So today--eye doctor, Bob (didn't get the stain out so will make it short sleeved), girls at 3, dinner with the HS moms--didn't go last month so need to go. Tomorrow--rest day. Thursday--work at the place I don't love and then visiting my graduate school professor--should be fun to see him after 37 years! Have a good!

Anne, that was an amazing amount of money raised by that fund raiser. What were you raising the money for? Hope you have some time to breathe now and that things have slowed down at both jobs. Are you warming up for the Memorial Day weekend? We are going to be super hot this weekend---of course Ocean City is very happy about that.
Terri, wish I had to wear layers---the less the better yesterday---LOL---and that was even near the beach. Cooler today to Spring like weather for a couple of days. How much stuff did you move yesterday? Are you taking stuff for the present owners today?
LIndie, sounds like Gene needs to go back to therapy for advice. I agree with him about the needles. Do they use a tens unit on him---electrical stimulation? They use that a lot around here and it really does help. We now have a unit here at home to use now and then. The cruise sounds lovely and a good way to get a different view of your city. Sorry about the rain at the Japanese gardens. I bet they were pretty.
We had a lovely day yesterday. We ran a few errands before heading up to Delaware to a greenhouse business to see what they had. I did find a yellow climbing rose bush so got that. Boy, do they have a lot of plants---think there was like 15 greenhouses---only saw one empty one. But I will say that ours at the school are much better than at that location. We also bought some fresh strawberries there. Then we headed to Rehobeth and went to the SAS store. Dh's shoes are on order and will be shipped to our house and I bought a really nice pair of sandals from there. Then we headed to Cracker Barrel and had a lovely lunch there. The we went to the "And That" store. Found a metal windmill for my circle garden bed and some other goodies there. I bought some interesting things for the kids to try at snack time.
Then we headed home. Got home in time to unload the truck and then get ready for the pool. So we had a busy day. I did buy a few plants that I will need to get into the ground soon but they won't take too long----some blue plants to go with the red and white in that circle bed.
Back to work---I can do this! Still a bit sore but not as bad as the weekend.

Oh Cathy, sometime last year Gene broke his ankle and was off work - he went to physio but they wanted to do a treatment that he said no to - it involved needles and he thought they used them anyway, but I told them if they had to use their fingers like a needle he would feel it and he would bruise - anyway he never went back so he has a gimpy leg now and looses strength in it so he is hoping to use the recombend cycling to strengthen his leg ... and of course I can use it too lol

I went on a cruise today !!! Just around the harbour and learnt a little history about Vancouver, it was a paddle ship and had 3 decks and we started out on the middle deck but moved to the lower deck where it was not so crowded and the view was fabulous. It was an hour cruise and normally would have cost 41.00 each but was free ! We also did the Sun-Yat gardens in Chinatown, which was also free, but it rained all day and we got soaked even with our rain ponchos because of the wind. It took all day to get these things done and my sister hit up a couple of hotels as well. At one point, I said, done going home, as my everthing was aching, another 18,465 steps so far !

Dianne if your ship docks at Canada Place, you can do a complete seawall walk west from there to Stanley Park - see the map I am posting, its not all of downtown but enough to give you an idea.

I am sure your cruise director will also have some ideas. I met a lady today at the Sun-Yat Gardens who was on a cruise and gave me some coupons she could not use - she was from Washing and heading to Alaska !

Gene and I are re arranging the livingroom - change is hard for him, and I printed up the manual for him to put the bike together. He will need patience indeed.

Cathy enjoy your anniversary, Congratulations, and yes lazy speak and what not seems to be the norm now. I take it you are talking about a circle flower bed LOL ! Hope you find something !

Anne so glad you came up for air ! How is your physio going ?

Terri, do you have the rain we have ? It was so sunny yesterday I burnt and today was total opposite, I had to wear a jacket and it was still cold, but damp cold ... Did you get all your sewing done ?

Betsy, hope everything is going well for you - and your internet gets fixed soon !

Better go track what I did eat today, not looking good at all but its still something to work with.

Lindie, I guess I didn't realize that you were talking about a stationary bike! I thought maybe he was going to ride a bicycle to work! Now it makes sense.

Anne, it has taken me two days to get rested from my last work trip. I generally live on 6 hrs of sleep per night, but had two nights of 8-9 hrs. I think I'm rested now, as I've been up since 5:00 this morning. You're right that it takes longer to recover than it used to.

Betsy, I'm glad the bad was mixed with some good. Bummer about the hard drive. You're starting your week off with a midnight sendoff? I hope you can make up some sleep sometime.

Perennials would probably be a good plan for your beds, Cathy. My DIL1 has some lovely beds that come back every year, with a big variety of flowers. Right now, she has Columbine, foxglove, Peruvian lilies, and some pink jasmine blooming with lots more plants coming up. She'll have flowers all summer and into fall.

Adam has been crazy busy moving stuff out to the ranch. I guess he got the pig slabs out and unloaded, but not set into their permanent place yet. Fortunately, there's a big piece of equipment there that he can use to move them later, when he has the permanent site ready. I'm sure there will be lots of rearranging once they are fully moved. This morning, we're going to go to his house with our truck and follow them out with another load. I don't know whether or not we'll pull a trailer, but we'll offer to bring a load of stuff out for the owners who are moving out. I don't know how much help they've had so far, but it's getting down to the wire and there is a lot to move! They live on the coast and we'll be going that way to shop and do errands, so it's not out of the way for us. Adam is working on the coast on Wednesday, so he'll pull a loaded trailer out for them and park it at the other house. They can get some local help to unload it.

It's cold again so I'll wear layers today. But at least it's not raining.

Hi all!
Finally slowing down for a moment!
Cathy, happy anniversary! Enjoy Cracker Barrel! You have a circle bed!?! Are you in the Poconos, lol! Yay to only 18 days left of school! I hope they will be smooth sailing!

Betsy, DH is not being very smart! He needs rest! It takes so much longer to recuperate as we get older! How much more school time does he have left? Hope all goes well in New York for DD2! May you cherubs be little angels!

Lindie, sounds like there were some great places to visit in that challenge! Good luck to your sister! The wheel section of those bikes are wicked heavy! Hope Gene can manage getting it together. Good idea to have the space ready!

Terri, smart thinking to bring the sewing material home since you are so busy doing other things while in the Placerville place. What a great idea having the lift for the firewood and for utilizing it for other things!Lindie

Dianne, I hope you had a good weekend! Were you able to get the stain out of the shirt for Bob? Bummer about the traffic and the waste of your time!

The wine tasting and auction evening was a great success! Over $13k was raised! Guess it was well worth the effort! But I am exhausted! I know a lot of my exhaustion is the rush to pack Fr. B up, hurry to clean his rooms, and do my other jobs! Once Fr. J is moved in the rooms that Fr. B had I think life will be in the new slower normal.

Back later when I have my computer. Have a good Monday!

Anne

Terri, those kind of stops are good to get the muscles loosened up.. Did you get some tops made for yourself yesterday? HOpe so.
Betsy, congrats on winning the cake. Your Dh better write some lesson plans for a couple of days and take off or he won't be able to work this summer if he keeps this up. Sorry for the downers but glad there were some highlights. Hope you aren't too tired from having to get up in the middle of the night to take dd2 to the leaving place. Hope today goes smoothly and no cranky kids.
Lindie, quite the number of steps---good for you---and glad they refrained from smoking for you. Lazy speech with vulgarities seem to be the norm now---they have no imagination. Hope you are not too sore today. Why did Gene buy a recumbant bike for himself? Did he like using yours before?
I took off today as it is our anniversary. We are going to drive up to Rehobeth and go to Cracker Barrel for a late lunch. I plan on stopping by the SAS shoe store to get DH a new pair of good shoes----they really are expensive but they are really good shoes for his feet.
I hope to find some place that has interesting outdoor stuff as I want something new for my circle bed.
On the count down I have 18 days more to work since I took off today. And these last days seem to drag big time.

Hi Everyone, today's excursion is done and they were kind to not smoke in the car, however I did have to put up with launguage - the F bomb, like come on get some good adjectives LOL

I may have gotten sunburnt as well as the walk was in the sun and then waiting an hour at Padjo's for fish and chips was also in the sun, at some point, I had to go look for shade. One more outting tomorrow and this is done for now, I hope my sister gets what she wants out of this ! I got in over 16,000 steps too !

Terri, the recombend bike is a stationary one so he will take it up stairs and put it together, but he did download the instructions book and has said he read it - we will see - its his investment but he is anxious for it to be Friday already LOL It will go in the livingroom - I may change the couch around to separate the living/dining area - and move his red chair and dinner table to where the couch is, we have room to do that .. maybe I will do that next week before it comes. Did you get a lot done today?

Betsy, wow rains and poors eh ? Good news/Badnews - cute way of posting and I agree about posting from a phone. Some phone have a micraphone and you can dictate the post. Mine does not seem to do that.

Cathy, did you rest up today?

Dianne, hope your weekend is going well.

I am tired ! I could go to bed now but I better not - oh we also did some outlet malls too - that was not too too bad - and the one out by the airport, I could see the planes going over head as the walk way is outside .. its not an indoor mall .. interesting concept and lots of people there too but it is a long weekend in Canada - Victoria Day tomorrow ...

Ok have a good one all !

I don't usually make many stops when driving, but it was good for my knees to break it up like that. In and out of the stores made for very quick stops, but the walking from the parking lots was just enough to loosen things up. It wasn't exactly a leisurely trip, but was a productive one.

Steve only worked half a day yesterday and he says they're done with that job. They have removed all the equipment and the traffic control stations. The sun has come out this morning but everything is still wet outside, so I don't know what kind of project he'll get into today. I'm going to go upstairs and sew some more. I can use some more tshirts and/or tank tops for summer. Most of my old ones are now work shirts and unfit to wear in public.

Dianne, I know you're enjoying DD3 so don't worry about us. See you when you're back to regular life. How did Bob's shirt turn out?

Linda, I'll bet that box is heavy! Is Gene good at assembling things like that? Does he follow the instructions or just look at the pictures like a lot of men do? That does sound like a good deal for an expensive bike. I'm sure he'll keep it in the apartment, but won't that be a huge inconvenience to have to pack it up and down stairs to use it? Too bad you don't have a locking garage. I hope the smokers are considerate and don't smoke in the car. Good for you to give yourself the option of taking the bus home if they do. No sense in being miserable.

Cathy, I hope the meds kicked in and gave you some quick relief and no lasting muscle pain from your gardening. I'm happy for you to have all the flowers planted, though.

Betsy, sorry your internet was down. We have problems with that when the weather is bad because we have a satellite connection. That's the only way we can get service out here. I'm glad Kate was feeling okay about the interview--one way or the other. I know you and Anne are probably super busy this weekend, but I hope you're able to get some rest.

Cathy is on the end-of-school countdown now. It sure seems to go by quickly, doesn't it?

Terri, quite the adventure on your way home. But I would rather stop more often when on a long ride than driving straight thru. Glad Steve got a chance for a bit more money but also got a lot done inside. Yikes the scaffolding to do those other projects. Hope you get some time to relax yesterday.
LIndie, good idea to take your bus pass with you. They are so inconsiderate if they smoke while you are in the car. Hope you enjoy the places you go as much as the last ones.
Dianne, glad you are enjoying your time with dd3. Hope the wedding is inside and that you are not too hot.
Betsy, bummer about your internet going out. HOpe you get credit on your bill.
I was so sore after we finished up planting and mulching 70 vinca yesterday---my friend did a lot of the planting once I showed him how but I worked right along side of him. The beds look so nice now. I decided to do the round bed in vinca too---red and white in that bed, the rest are a mix of pinks, purples, apricot, and white. I ended up taking a lot of meds yesterday---also think I was around too much pollen on the back deck as my nose was running like a sieve all evening. Even needed my knee brace on one knee to ease the ache---it did work.
No plans for today except for dh to grill out---LOL

Morning! DD3 arrived safely yesterday and we have been enjoying time with her ever since! She even dragged me out for a run (run 60 seconds, walk 60 and repeat for 20 minutes). Now we are packed and heading for DC. Guess we'll watch for old cars! Thanks, Cathy!

Terri--glad you are home.

Betsy--wondered what happened.

Lindie--oh, my to the delivery. Oh,well--take it out of the box and carried pieces up?

Hi, Anne!

Likely won't get back here to Monday night!

Betsy, I sure hope there is not too much wrong with your internet connections and its straightened out ok, post when you can, and have a good day tomorrow ( Sunday )

Terri, glad you made it home safe and sound, sounds like the pit stops made the trip longer but maybe more relaxing ?

Cathy, what did you plant today?

Well, my night last night ended strange - Gene decided to go to Canadian Tire to buy a recomend style bike and it was on for half price, 799.00 - NordicTrack Commercial VR21 which was normaly listed at 1600.00 so he made a good sale. It was too big to put in his car so he paid for delivery, 50.00 plus an extra 20.00 for a second person in the truck AND they ONLY deliver to your apartment door, NOT upstairs, so he is going to have to figure out how to get it into the apartment and then put it together... they don't do that either ... I thought for that price, 1,000 by the time he was done, I would have at least expected it to be delivered INSIDE the apartment, but nope, their insurance only covers to the door, not even up the apartment steps - so basically he's paying for them to load it off the truck and load it on the lawn ......well he agreed to it ... so I told him to download the instructions for putting it together. Then he was trying to decide where to put it .. I will leave that to him ... I made some suggestions. Then we went to Walmart to look for some shoes for me and pick up a few things, then back home for pizza for dinner - frozen, and I tracked it ...

I am not sure where we go tomorrow , but if my daughter is going you can bet there will be changes as she tends to do this ( she's controlling that way ) and I am just gonna sit in the back seat, and hope they do not smoke in the car ... I will take my bus pass with me and if the smoking gets to much I will just go home ...

Dianne, Anne, hope your weekend is going well.

Time to get dishes done, later all !

My kids always got runny noses when they were cutting teeth. Even a low-grade fever sometimes.

We finally got home at about 8:00 last evening. I took Tim home first, but his dad wasn't home yet and he was locked out, so we then took Pablo home and spent a few minutes with his family to say hello. Then to my house, where Tim decided to bail out and go visit Mary Beth at the apartment until his dad got home from work. That left me to unload my things from the car and get it all upstairs. (I'm so thankful for the elevator Steve built to bring up firewood and such) I had just gotten the ice chest unpacked and into the fridge when Steve got home. He brought the rest of my things in off the elevator and took two bins of fabric upstairs for me. They'd been left in the canyon, but I won't be having any time to sew down there in the near future, so decided to bring them home.

On the way home, we went through the car wash, dropped the books and DVDs at the library, stopped at the local RESTORE for a quick look for fixtures that the kids might need as they move out to the ranch, a stop by the courthouse to drop Steve's jury summons with the change of address back to this county (we changed our voter registration earlier, but it hadn't gone through yet, I guess), then I stopped in Folsom at a Michael's shop to look for a specific type/color of yarn I need to finish a baby blanket I'm knitting, they didn't have it, so we went on to Joann's but they didn't have it either. By then, it was time to feed the boys, so we had brunch at IHoPs before getting back on the freeway. In Redding, we stopped at the same Walmart I'd purchased the yarn and they had they type I need, but not the color. Then we stopped at the car dealership where I bought my SUV to pick up a part he'd ordered for me (no charge) and then went on to Redding to see Mom for a minute. She was working at the Hospice Thrift store where she volunteers and was almost off, so we invited her to dinner at her favorite fish place across the street. That gave us more time to visit with her and she with the boys, so that was nice. Then it was to a gas station for fuel and back on the road for the last 2-hr stretch. A 6-hour trip had taken us almost 11 hrs by the time we got home, but we sure got a lot done on the way! No wonder I slept for 9 hours!

Steve is working again today, but this might be his last. They are pushing to finish up that job quickly now and just needed a little more help to haul in gravel to build up the shoulders and polish things up before Memorial Day weekend. He kept all my plants alive and finished all the inside trim. I noticed that he bought some lumber and thought it was for the wall in the basement, but he said it's to build a scaffold, so I guess he's getting ready to work outside on the eaves. He has to do some plugging, where the bats are getting in and making themselves at home and will probably freshen up the fascia boards while up there. I'm not sure if he plans to install rain gutters too, but he might since he's already up there.

Anne and Betsy, I hope you have some rest time in your weekend plans. Mine will be much slower than the past 2 weeks have been, but I have a new pile on my desk that wasn't there before, so I guess I'd better investigate and see if there are things I need to deal with before I get started on anything new. Cathy, have fun planting your flowers! Mine are going to have to wait for a while longer.

Anne, hope you get some time for yourself this weekend.
Betsy, sure hop no one passes on what they have but wonder if some of them it is ore cutting teeth that is making them miserable and having runny noses. Hope you can enjoy your weekend plans.
Dianne, yuck to the traffic and then only having an hour to teach and then waste the rest of your day. No wonder you would rather be at the home. Enjoy your iris. Mine are done now. But my rose bushes are blooming. Have seen one huge bumble bee but not many others but that one must have pollinated my squash as I have little squash growing now. Hope your dd3 can feel good enough to enjoy the wedding. Hope traffic is not too bad. It is Cruising Weekend in OC so you might see a lot of old cars returning home.
Terri, hope your trip home was uneventful---sounds like a lot of stops to be made on the way. Did Steve get a jury summons at the canyon address? too funny! Did you get to see your neighbors any on this trip? You haven't mentioned them.
Lindie, hope you enjoy the day on Sunday. What places will you go then? I am heading to Joy's this summer---right now the plan is in June but she just let me know of a bus trip to Maine in July and is checking into it for us as we have both wanted to go there so I might wait until July to go.
My plans for today is gardening. My co-worker that I take to work is coming over to help me plant my vinca today---first we have to cut back the dried up parts of the tulips, pull up the winter pansies, and then plant. Also want to get my orange geraniums into pots today. I know I will be sore later on but will take meds before I start.
Have a lovely Saturday!

Good afternoon everyone, I see you all have a busy day and lots to do this weekend, and on Sunday my sister and I continue with the stamp visits - in Steveston south of me, and that is ok cause I can get really good fish and chips out there, plus my daughter maybe joining us. We will see how it goes, I tallied up all the places we went to and to go on our own without this challenge would have cost hundreds of dollars so the freebees really do make a difference.

Tracking has been ok and I am noting changes I need to make, and will start working on that closer to the end of the month and payday, when I can actually shop for what i need.

Terri, safe trip home !

Dianne, have a fun weekend with your daugher !

Anne, when are you not busy ? LOL

Betsy have a good weekend as well, sounds like you also have lots to do !

Cathy, oh boy, only 4 more weeks to go, are you counting down the days now ? Will you be visiting Joy when school is out ?

Gotta go log my breakfast - my carbs are very heavy, no wonder my weight is up !
Thanks to Terri, I can make a plan of action and action the plan !! emoticon for now !

We're going home today. I've been up since 6:30 and have showered, packed myself and the fridge and made a list of things to remember. My sheets are in the washer and I'll dry them while the boys get themselves together and if I have time, will redress my bed; otherwise, they can stay in the dryer until I get back. Either way, I'll have clean sheets when I get back. I have a list of things to do on the way home...drop off library books, car wash, drop off change of address for Steve's jury summons and so on.

Okay, the boys are moving...time to go.

Morning! Yesterday's traffic going in was awful--took an hour for a 40 minute trip. AND they got there about 10 AM anyway....AND they only had enough adults for 4 groups total so I may taught for a max of an hour--really got shorted time with the last 2 groups so may have been more like 50 minutes. I did a lot of reading yesterday....I am going to go see my graduate school professor next Thursday--excited to see him--it has been about 37 years.

DD3 arrives tomorrow--but woke in MI with a sinus infection so she is going to see Urgent Care to get antibiotics so she will be more able to fly. Guess I will get to baby her some! We drive to DC on Sun, will quick change in the hotel bathroom and then drive back home Monday AM. Not looking forward to the traffic.

Betsy--at least Kate got a good practice interview and has the right attitude. If she isn't a fit, she doesn't want it! Hope your day goes okay. FRIDAY!

Cathy--I have 5 stalks of my "fancy" iris with buds--and the one ready to open is purple like all the others! LOL They really are pretty! I am trying lots of things on this shirt--it is a really nice quality one and I have gotten the small spots lighter but the big spot is still noticeable. One more try before it becomes short sleeved. At 84, he doesn't really want short sleeves but could wear it with a sweater....

Anne--hope it is good busy!

Lindie--hope you are out and about!

Heading to the grocery store and then I will be going to the home this afternoon to sing. I sure miss being able to be there more.

Terri, it is great that you are connecting the boys with older generations of the family, so many of us never got that chance.

Cathy, the more flowers the better! Do you have problems with bees around your roses? We only have one bush and we certainly do. The girls weren't too cranky and it was nice out so it was a great day. I was hoping for a repeat today but so far there is no word that Landon isn't coming. We have a huge weekend coming up so he better not spread any illness into my family. that is the biggest downside of in home day care.

Anne, "busy busy busy" will keep you out of trouble...I hope!

Kate got home safely last night and is pretending the interview didn't happen. She feels like she did well but doesn't feel like an important person on the panel warmed up to her. Kate told me yesterday that she would take the job if she got it but honestly felt like it may not be the right position for her so if she didn't get it, that would be OK too.

Oh boy, Landon just arrived, heigh ho...

Dianne, I use oxyclean stain removal on Dh's ring around the collar---it removed some very old stains that had been washed and dried. I like it for the really tough stains. Your learning day sounds interesting and also a nice workout with the walks. Too bad you don't live closer. I hope the drive to the other place was not too bad but your traffic is a lot worse than mine. When do you pick up or meet up with dd3?
Betsy, hope you don't pick up what the kids have. Did you have an easier day with only the 2 or are they both so cranky that it felt like all of them were there?
Terri, you all definitely earned that time off. Did you get to visit everyone you wanted to? If you stay a bit longer, what will the boys tackle next?
After today, 4 more weeks of school left. Yippee! LOL
We went to Petsmart, Chick-fil-a, and the Dollar Tree last night. I found a bunch of cute spinners for the garden and some nice red, white and blue stars for the garden. Dh made the first of new trellis for my roses---much sturdier than what we can buy---but boy, is it tall---would be great for a climbing rose----maybe I need another rose---LOL for the other side of it. It really is holding up the rose bush on the side that was pushing over the metal one I had there. He is going to build another one for the other longer side but I suggested it not be so tall. My roses are really blooming on those bushes now. Also one day lily had 2 bright yellow blooms on it.
Have a good Friday! The weekend is almost here.

Good morning. Tim and I are up. He's working on school on his laptop and I just started a fire in the stove. It's chilly in here this morning! It looks good outside with the tall grass down for quite a distance from the house. It's raining, but the birds are out at the feeders and looking for worms. I'm not sure what we'll do today, but I think we'll go for a drive. Maybe visit some family. I haven't seen Steve's aunt and uncle in a while. I could take the boys there and they could see the house where their great, grandfather grew up. My aunt lives farther up the mountain, so we could visit there, too if the boys aren't too tired of old people LOL! I just know we're not doing anything strenuous. The boys aren't in a hurry to get home, but their parents might be, so I should check with them. I think I'll take Dad's tools back to him today while we're out anyway, because we've done enough for now.

Dianne, you said it had already been run through the dryer so my suggestion is elbow patches! I am sure DD2 will do plenty of things in NY. I'll let you know as she reports to us.

Cathy, where are you going in June? The children aren't feeling well here either. I may only have my two baby girls today.

Terri, how wonderful you were able to get so much accomplished before the rain came.

Kate said the interview/presentation went well but she left with an uneasy feeling because the head honcho didn't give off a warm vibe. That could just be her personality but all we can do now is wait.

I was going to say have a marvelous Monday but then caught myself, have a thoroughly wonderful Thursday!

Morning! The conference yesterday was great. Held at the Howell Living History Farm. If that was closer, that is where I'd be! The speaker talked about yeoman class--farmers who were middle class--and the name was a PA distinction but we were a stone's throw from PA very near Washington's Crossing. So it was interesting! We walked between workshops--I hit my step count--and they had golf carts if that was too far. Well run!

Cathy--the volunteers did have a few bad ones BUT the management changed and decided they wanted more "control". My friend loves the critters so she still puts up with the new rules, etc. And the calla lilies have just started to come up--they will pop with our 70s this weekend but they won't bloom for awhile. I know it will be hot at the wedding--but it will be inside, I am sure.

Terri--you certainly did do lots!! Those grands have earned some down time! Glad you got so much done. I didn't get to talk to DD1 but she was looking forward to real rain. And Yosemite supposedly had snow? Saw that on the weather channel. When are you going home?

I teach today--so need to be there at 9 AM now--and that will make a BAD impact on the traffic and time to get there. For 9:30, I can leave at 8:45. For 9, I may have to leave before 8. ARG.

Oh--I have tried hydrogen peroxide and soap on some old (washed and dried) blood stains. Any other suggestions? It is a navy blue checked shirt. I have lightened them some but still there--doing this for my friend at the home. Stain is at elbow area.
