Dianne, have a safe trip. DH plans to set up his classroom next week, inservice is the following week and students arrive on September 3. It was supposed to be DH's last day at the park but now he's talking about working on the 30th if he's able, sigh.

Everyone, sorry I haven't been posting much, it's been a crazy time for me. I will be very happy once the new routine has been underway for about a month and everyone is ensconced in the daycare/school routine. Five more days of Landon and his big brother. I will try to respond to posts better tomorrow but our house is suffering and I have to tend to that so I may not get here until Sunday. We are also going to a pizza and gelato place for dinner about 30 miles from here so that will take care of our evening. 14 year old Aiden has been a Godsend and DD1 also helped out a lot this week. Aiden will also come next week. If DD1 can come on Tuesday, I will go to DH's local appointment but if he's still doing fairly well, he can drive himself. I won't leave my tribe with just one person, they are too difficult.

Cathy, I hope Howard is healing well.

Anne, thanks for the prayers for DH, please keep them coming.

Lindie, have fun with Dianne, I'm jealous!

Terri, I am glad you received accolades at the fair for the work ethic of your club, well deserved comments often go unsaid.

PS tap a credit card means you can tap the payment rather then put a code in - its convenient and has limits but not on the number of taps - just on the amount of tap. Check with your financial institution for more information!

Good evening Friends, wow what a busy day I had today ! But it is done and it is relax down time and I can come here and see how you all are doing !

Dianne, will be watching - I will be wearing my green ball cap from Nike - its old and fraying on the sun shader part, no idea what that is really called, but its been with me a long time and I am not ready to let go ... lol Have a good flight to my neck of the woods and try to get a good nights sleep tomorrow night too ... that train from Seattle is a nice trip - my daughter had done the train to Seattle and back a couple of times.

Terri, how did the younguns make out this year, did they do ok? They had a lot to do with the move and everything. That's a lot of work for the 4H !! But it teaches good things. It's too bad that Steve is not enjoying putting up the stairs, perhaps his heart is not in it knowing the house will be sold ? Maybe he's already moved onto the ranch and less maintenance in his heart ? Just let him know we are all very impressed and proud of his work on those stairs, and we are cheering him on !!!

Cathy, maybe you need a scooter too at Disney land, LOL I would love one to motor around on but would still need my 10,000 steps, which I still need tonight ! Gene invested in your shares again LOL 250.00 worth and he bought some clothes too ! He got 2 jean jackets at 40.00 each one for over his work vest and one for over his work jacket, so he got a medium and large - he was not going to get the large, but I reminded him a medium would be too tight and constrict movement wearing a back pack. He even did a load of his own laundry today ! without prompting !!!

Anne, are you ready for the weekend? Or are you working this weekend ? Credit cards, please please please deactivate the tap - all credit cards come with tap capability and that means someone can go on a tapping spree with your credit and back cards. My credit card has tap but my bank card does not - I use my bank card more then credit card and to use the credit card online they would have to be able to use the 3 digit code on the back of the card to be accepted, I am thinking, someone read your son's credit card and was able to duplicate it and use it ... those card readers can not read through aluminum so maybe a card holder with aluminum. Gene just uses regular aluminum as he has been hit 2 x now ... so many dishonest desperate people in the world today ...

Betsy, hope all is well with you and your day went good, its the weekend, so perhaps things can slow down a bit. Hope DH is doing ok too ...

So what do you all have planned for the weekend? I know what I am doing !!! emoticon

Anne, sometimes an animal will be disqualified by the judge when being shown for its place in the market field (ie: Grand Champion, Reserve Champion and down from there). That happened to my eldest gs last year with one of his pigs. It was his first year in 4-H and his leader was retiring and didn't offer a lot of help. His pig got too fat and was judged thus and he had to remove it from the fairgrounds before nightfall! We live 2 hours from the fairgrounds, so that would've been a huge inconvenience had not the Ag teacher for the local high school offered a pen there for him. They were able to just move the pig to the high school pens until after the auction and then we were introduced to someone who was interested in buying it from him. It ended up okay in the end, but was not a fun time. They have SO much money into these animals that they really count on getting a good price for them at the auction in order to make enough profit to cover their expenses, purchase next year's animals and feed, and maybe have enough left over to put into their college funds.

I did make a town run yesterday and just barely made it to the restaurant supply store before they closed. I got everything I needed for lots more pickling and also hit on a sale on meat, so it was worth the trip.

Steve found that he needs one more log post, so has gone out to the ranch to cut one. He has found this project to be quite challenging which surprises me after having built this entire house. But I guess his mind has simply moved on to other things and his creative juices are flowing down a different stream. LOL

Cathy, we are eating a lot of cucumbers too. I like them with a little salt, but have lately had some tossed with a chili-lime seasoning called Tajin. I can just eat that like a bowl of popcorn. You're right about the kids getting used to sending animals off to slaughter when they grow up raising their own meat. It's never really easy, but I guess it shouldn't be. It's just a fact of life unless one wants to be a vegetarian/vegan. They enjoy watching the deer that are abundant on the ranch, but will also enjoy being able to hunt with their dad and bringing home the venison when the time comes. They do bond with their 4-H animals and have more of a relationship with them than other livestock because they have to be able to make them behave in the show ring.

Poor DD2 is going to be ready to enjoy your vacation, Dianne! I sure hope her bosses have a plan to care for those animals while she's gone. Will the laundry machines be free for your use on the ship or are they coin-operated? One would think they'd be complimentary. I'm a little jealous of your meet-up with Lindie and hope you both have a sweet time. I'm glad you won't have to carry your own distilled water for his CPAP. That would be an awkward piece of luggage. I learned when traveling on the train that my CPAP was classified as a medical device and didn't count as a piece of luggage, and when I fly I don't have to check it into baggage because we all know that sometimes baggage doesn't end up on the same flight as the passenger.

Anne, your news about Tom's card being hacked made me go to my account and check it out. I don't do it very often, but I have mine set up to send me an email alert every time the card it used online or remotely (without physically having the card). Still, how did they use Tom's card at PetSmart? Maybe it was an online order? If so, there would be a shipping address and could easily be tracked. Hmmm....

Morning! DD3 got her tires--bought 2 for right now and I think about $110 each. DD2 is doing so much right now cause the new people don't start till 8/26 and she is the only worker bee. Her boss has helped a lot--the other "office person" hasn't done anything so both DD2 and boss are a little miffed at her. Those 2 will be doing the critters while DD2 is gone--hopefully they will keep them alive! Then she jumps right back into lots of work--while trying to teach 2 newbies the programs, the animal care and how to find the various schools, etc. And DD1 didn't regard CPAP as something for a disability but Disney looked at it that way so it needed to be "registered". Anyway--all is done.

I am packed--taking less than I really want so hopefully I don't have too much. Hubby will put some stuff in my suitcase and DD2 might as well--she drives down here today to leave tomorrow. DD1 and her hubby are flying to Seattle tonight to take the train to Vancouver on Sat AM. (He likes trains.) DD3 flies direct to Vancouver--gets in about 5 so she and DD1 will get the hotel rooms and settle. We arrive about 11:30 and then need to get into downtown so it will be a LATE night for us. Looking forward to seeing Lindie on Sunday--Anne, you are the last one I need to connect with!

Cathy--glad DH is doing better. Hope he continues to improve. Enjoy your last days of summer!

Anne--interesting that the hawk just turned around and flew out! I wonder if it was a red-tailed hawk. That is what DD2 cares for. We had a nesting pair in the area and the 2 "babies" played in our yard one day!

Terri--how is the canning going? My brother's SO is doing lots of canning--my mom is teaching her some things and providing many of the jars. They have a huge garden. Mom and Dad don't have a very big one this year--they are slowing down.

Betsy--so today is the last day at the park? I hope things settle for DH's eyes. And he will do what he will do--and you'll support whatever, I know. I forgot when school will start there.

Lindie--we'll be there! You'll be able to watch for a large group--4 women and 2 guys--lots of blondes!

I won't be updating really till we get home. Not paying $5 a day to use my phone in Canada and not paying more than that to have internet on the ship. I might be able to say "hi" from ports in Alaska but don't expect it. My 2909 day streak for logging in will be broken. I have thought about different ways to keep it going and decided that it isn't a big deal! So when we get back, I will sort of "start over"--I may need to based on all the food DD1 says we will be exposed to! LOL

Dianne, How exciting that the trip is almost upon you. Glad your dd1 thought to check on the C-pap machine cord and the water for it. Sorry Dd2 had such a rough day---did they hire someone to take that guy's place? Bummer about the timing of the flat tire---never happens at a good time.
Lindie, glad you are getting to meet another Sparkler. I have had to take care of the dishes lately since Dh is not able to get around too well---I will be glad when he can get back to doing his chores---LOL But I will say I do better than him in getting things cleaned up and put in the dishwasher or hand washed.
Terri, did he get many steps put in yesterday? Hope you got lots of canning done.
Anne, sounds like a busy day ahead. Good for Victoria in going without her friend and setting new levels in her exercising.
The wound center doctor was happy with the progress of his ankle. We are now to use an antibiotic cream on it when we change the bandages. I got lucky last night when I went to get his prescription at CVS---a $5 coupon plus 20% purchase so that cream only cost me less than $2. After I went there, I went to Big Lots to get my Fig preserves---bought the last 3 jars---hope they get more in---and then to Walmart to get bread, milk and some other stuff. Boy, was I tired after my busy day. today is the cyst removal and as of right now, no doctor visits until next Thursday when we go back to the Wound Center.
We have already made plans to rent a scooter at Disney as I already knew that he would not be able to walk that much there and would really slow the rest of us down. Now I will probably have trouble keeping up---LOL

Good morning!
Terri, thank you for the information about some of the rules of 4H animal requirements. Guess I would be monitoring my animals weight so I wouldn't have to get my animal off the fairgrounds, especially if I had other animals there! How'd you do with all that canning? Did you find supplies at a decent price? Did you have helpers? How's the stairs project going?

Lindie, I agree...having a rock as a pillow is definitely not my thing! Glad you enjoyed your Bible study time! We do our dishes most of the time here at home and I often will do some of the dishes while at the rectory. We have a zoodle maker, but have yet to use it. Guess I should read the directions and figure out how, lol!

Dianne, are you making sure you are taking in enough fluids to flush your system in this humidity? You and your family must be getting excited...everyone getting together and having a great trip planned! Sadly, tires are expensive...hopefully DD3 was able to get a good deal. Bummer about DD2 not having her own washer at least. DD1 was smart to think to check with the cruise-line about the CPAP. I don't know if I would have thought about where the plug location is in proximity to the head of the bed. I know Fr. B used bottled spring water when on a trip because the distilled water was either not available or the gallon jug was way too much for the amount of time he was away...his machine was fine.

t was good to talk with the my family, so I believe it was a touch of Divine Intervention that prevented me from getting to the class. Fr. L was very pleased with the group that came. I was glad to go to bed earlier than I expected, lol!

Theresa called me to "brag" yesterday. She wanted to let me know that she and her gf had a "date" at the gym and the gf had to cancel. T didn't cancel and went without her. She was very pleased that she did that, but even more pleased that she beat her goal for spin miles and how long she was able to ride. She is trying to shape up and it sounds like she is doing well with it!

J told me that Tom's credit card was hacked. Fortunately it was only used for $199 at PetSmart, then an attempt was made at 2 other places, but declined. The credit card company called him right afterwards and asked about the attempted purchases. He will have to file a claim on the $199 purchase. I wonder what they "bought" at PetSmart, lol! Unfortunately I did not stop last night and check our credit cards and though it didn't cause me to have difficulty falling asleep, I did wake around 3 and had a lot of trouble falling back to sleep wondering if my accounts are okay! I probably should have gotten up and gotten on the computer and checked, but I was afraid that I wasn't going to fall back to sleep that way...duh! I did check this morning and all is well...phew!

Victoria texted us last night. She had a hawk fly into the police department doors. She got up to check it and saw the bird get up, shake off, and as she went to open the door fly off. We have had sparrows and small birds fly into our sliding door, but nothing as big as a hawk. I wish she could have taken a picture of it.

I have to go to the grocery store, plus do a slew of other things at the rectory today...so I need to get moving.

Have a great day!

Anne

Anne, the animals are only sold at the auction. There are rules about their weight (have to be market-ready,but not overweight) and all kinds of things. That's why they have weigh-ins on Wed. before the events begin and any animals that don't qualify have to be removed from the fairgrounds! Major inconvenience, so that's why our club has their own set of scales and watch weights closely as the time for fair approaches. Sorry you missed the study, but glad you got to visit with your family.

Hope all goes well with Howard's healing, Cathy. You know he could rent a wheelchair and still enjoy Disney with you. Or maybe he'd prefer to stay home? I'm glad you have the home nurse to help with the wound care and getting the appointments you need.

I have to run to town for more canning supplies, so will have to cut this short. More later if I have time tonight.

Good afternoon friends, I hope your day is going well and all appointments were successful !

Cathy, how is DH doing ? And did you get to the pool today ? You might not have as it seemed you had a lot of errends to run.

Dianne, not long now, are you all packed? Good that the cruise will supply a cord for the Cpap - I never use mine - its sat in the closet since we moved in here and I looked at it the other day, the plastic on the mask is not good so if I did decide to use it I would need a new mask. In no hurry to go there ! Unfortunate that your DD2 had to do all that physical work by herself, is that because they need to hire more staff ? What will they do when she is gone ? I hope the new tires for DD3 does not cost too too much ! My sister finally got all new tires on her car ( I bugged her almost to death on her car not being maintained ) It was fairly expensive. I'll look forward to seeing you by the statue - just look for a short plump ole woman LOL

Terri, how's the food prep going ? Did you try that recipe to dehydrate the zoodles ? Mine are still in the fridge - the core of the squash was mush and seedy and I had to wash them off to remove as much as I could of the mush - with my zoodler, I put it on whole and just go .. lol I wanted to change blades but I could not get the other one off .. I could make chicken zoodle soup, I suppose ... how's the steps coming along? How is the ranch coming along ?

Anne, yes I learnt that I would never use a stone for a pillow like Jacob did! I am spoiled ! I thought about how I would be in a disaster situation and about how I think I need this and that when I should be thankful to be alive, so lots of food for thought just on that rock !!! How did your day go ? Did you get the spread sheets done?

Betsy, hope all is well in your neck of the woods - how is DH doing ?

I got out for a walk and now I have to go do the dishes, I am the dishwasher LOL

Morning! I am going to get out for my walk--then today is packing! Found out the cruise will supply the gallon of distilled water for hubby's CPAP--and will provide an extension cord (with a $50 deposit!) to make sure it will reach an outlet. DD1 called them yesterday to say he was bringing this "medical device". And DD2 had an AWFUL day a work--lots of very physical work outside and pretty much by herself so she was exhausted. THEN DD3 had a flat tire--while we were talking on the phone. So she is getting new tires this AM.....

Cathy--I am retaining some water--rings are tight but can't blame that for all of it. I hope things go very well for DH at the wound center and tomorrow with the cyst. While you might have lots of fun with Joy, I know he'd like to go! Worst case you rent a mobile chair for him.

Terri--too bad about the cucumbers--they have no value once they get yellow....I know it is HOT there--DD1 is complaining about running in the heat. I hope Steve does take it easy and not overdo. When will the 4H kids get more animals? I know it is hard--even if they are not pets, you get attached to them.

Anne--glad you got to talk to your daughter and your sister--maybe that was more important the other night. You are certainly the energizer bunny! We WILL find a time to get together!

Lindie--that is a big zucchini--I had a big one that did ok for noodles--the seeds in the center were a bit much so I sort of just scraped them out before zoodling. Served it with pesto that I had made and frozen--it was really good. I have a couple that we won't get used so I will give to my friend. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday at 1 at the statue!

Betsy--I hope no news is good news. I expect you are reopened so who is running with DH to the doctors? Does he start school before Labor Day?

I am out to get my exercise and then get packing. DD2 will come home tomorrow--don't know if she will have stuff to wash or not. I have done some stuff for her--she doesn't have a washer/dryer this time so needs to go to the laundromat. We will be doing laundry on the ship--sigh....I should say I will be doing laundry on the ship. Oh, well--once Mom, always Mom!

Dianne, just wondering if the humidity is causing you to retain water weight even though you are sweating quite a bit while exercising outside? Just enjoy the cruise and the food and worry about that when you get home. I am sure your dds will have you in the exercise room at the hotel and you can do a lot of walking on those ships from what I have heard. Always hard to eat correctly while on vacation---I know it was for me with us eating out all the time. I actually got tired of that but now I am tired of cooking here at home---LOL
Lindie, interesting zuchini ---hope it zoodles okay for you. Did you get your housework done. I should be doing that again---LOL----at least I need to vacuum. And the shower needs some attention.
Terri, hopefully cutting the boards will make the afternoon progress quicker. Too bad he doesn't have someone to help---one to cut while the other is putting them on the risers. How do the kids feel about their animals going to slaughter? I would think that would be hard on them but it is part of farm life. Couldn't you have used some of the larger cucumbers for some fresh cucumber salad or put in vinegar to just eat? That is how Dh eats them---I actually need to go buy some now that our plants have died off. It does help with his blood sugars. Sounds like you will be trying to dehydrate the zuchini.
Anne, I go back to work on Wed. Aug 28 and the 29th---then we have off for the Labor Day weekend and the kids start on Tuesday after Labor Day. I am glad to be going back but sure hope my dh is a lot better by then. Right now he can't drive but he is finding it easier to put weight on it.
The doctor said it looked better. I showed him the picture I took on my phone of his ankle at the ER room so he had something to compare it to. I told him I was tired of doing Dh's chores---LOL and doing all the driving. He agreed that Dh needs some PT so need to call the visiting nurse group to let them know we have that order. We go to the wound center today and the doctor said it was okay to do the cyst removal and it was actually a good time to do it since he was already on antibiotics.
We got home too late for me to go to the pool----but I was expecting that. I do need to go to CVS today to get new prescriptions for Dh---will do that after we get home today---need to go to the bank and get money, also need something from Big Lots and from Walmart so I will try to do all those things today.

Terri, were the animals purchased at the fair or were any pre-purchased prior? That's too bad about the cukes. Didn't Jen's mother realize how important to keep on top of vegetables that are close to harvesting? I hope the zoodling goes well! How long will it take Jen to get her 4-H supplies taken care of? It sounds like a big job! Loved the pictures of the breakdown of the barn. Those kids are great workers! Oh yeah, sorry you lost that post...I feel your frustration!

Lindie, too funny, a zucchini that looks like a soda pop bottle! Don't you wonder how it got to be that shape! I hope you got everything accomplished that you planned, and then some! Do you have your Mom's Bible? I have my grandmother's...my uncle had it and after he passed (his wife passed before him) they gave it to me. It is neat having it! Did you read anything about Jacob's ladder that you forgot or didn't know already?

Dianne, that's great news that your favorite massage therapist is back! Enjoy your trip and then enjoy your massage! I think you are doing quite well with all your walking/running! I'm sure there will be other things to do on the cruise, so don't worry too much about the food! I sort of figured those were the kind of songs you would sing with the seniors. They were some of the ones that I sang when I volunteered at the senior center weekly. Glad Bob had a decent time at his son's.

Cathy, I am so glad that the visiting nurse came and set up more visits! How did Howard make out yesterday at the doctor's? I sure hope the meds he's on will take care of it for him quicker than they predict! I also hope he is a good patient and follows directions, especially after you go back to work! Is he able to put more weight on it yet? Fingers crossed he will be well enough for Disney, but at least you have a back up plan, lol! I will make some time to read your blogs and enjoy your pictures! Kudos to Michael taking the time to show you how to do it! When do you go back to school? When do the kids start? I think you already told us, but I've forgotten!

Betsy, how scary for your DH and, of course, you! He is such a dedicated teacher, but he really needs to think about himself so that he can continue teach! Are they recommending limited reading or limited computer time or both? I will continue to pray to St. Lucy to intercede on his behalf, as well as pray to Our Lord directly! Hang in there!

I did not make it to the Bible study. The gas station work was part of the reason, but I also received a call from Victoria and the grandkids, had to clean a messy stove after dinner, and just as I was finishing that up a call from my sister. By the time I finished the call it was too late to show up late, lol! Fr. L said that you don't have to be there for everyone, so I will go next Tuesday. I am going to check with a couple of my 9:00'er friends to see if they were there and ask about it. Time to get moving along...need to shower and pack up my computer to bring with me to work...hoping to 1.) read Cathy's blogs and 2.) get the gas spreadsheets started for August and 3.) double check my checking activity to make sure I've listed all the on the fly bill payments.

Have a great Thursday!

We didn't bring home any animals except for the puppy, Dianne. All the livestock was sold at auction and pre-booked with the buyers' meat packer of choice. The trucks arrive at about 6 a.m. on the day after the auction to transport the animals. The kids get to the pens early to "say goodbye" to their animals and send them off.

I went out to the garden yesterday and you would not believe the cucumbers!! Jennifer's mother was to pick them every 2-3 days while she was gone, but she only picked twice and they are HUGE! I've already tossed about 3 gallons into my compost because they're just so big. I could make relish with them but already have several jars on my shelf, so didn't want to make that much more. Jennifer says they'll eat sweet bread & butter pickles (my family doesn't care for them much) so I'll make several batches of that with the next largest ones. The ones I tossed were actually turning yellow already and the seeds woody. They'll probably all sprout in my compost next spring, but that's okay. All in all, I came home with 2 large laundry baskets full of cucumbers to deal with. Jennifer is recovering from her week at the fair. As the sheep leader, she has a stock trailer full of supplies to sort, inventory and store away for next year--on top of laundry for her family and house cleaning. I told her not to worry about the garden just yet. I'll harvest it as I can to keep it producing, which is what we wanted her mother to do. I also came home with about 40 lbs of zucchini and most of those are quite large, too. I found a recipe for dehydrating zoodles and may try that. I can shred it and freeze it in portions for baking later, but I'm intrigued by the idea of dehydrating some too.

Betsy, there will never be an ideal time for dh to take time off work for that surgery. If he waits until next summer, he'd be missing work at the park. I'm sure he's concerned about disrupting his students during the school year and that there are often staffing problems, but his eyesight is too important. I know you'll think carefully about the best way to proceed and hope it all works out the best way possible.

Lindie, I'm excited that you and Dianne will meet up! I know you've visited with Cathy and your friend, Joy. Cathy hosted me and Steve in her home on our cross-country train trip and we were able to meet up with Dianne for an afternoon--then later, Dianne and I met up in Sacramento and then she and her DD2 stayed the night with me in the canyon. It's so much fun to personally connect with the friends that we visit with every day!

Steve cut the "stringers" for the front steps this morning before it got hot. Then he had a chiropractor appt. this afternoon. He's resting now, but will work outside more this evening when it cools down a bit. This project is very slow going, but progress is being made. I guess this is the reason he's never gotten around to tackling it before, but I'm happy it's happening now.

Good morning Friends, its domestic engineering day today - yes cleaning / washing floors and what ever else I get into LOL

Dianne, I am excited for Sunday - don't sweat the food on the cruise, you might not even like most of it and try the food plate speed bump to slow you down, so have two plates, have what you want on one then transfer half of that onto the other plate, then eat one of them, wait and if you are still hungry eat the other - if they don't let you have the 2nd plate, simply half what is on your own plate and do the same. I still do this when I am out to an event that has tons of food - course I avoid seafood of all kinds due to allergies.

I hope you don't have too much jet lag either ! Drink lots of water !

Cathy, good that the nurse came, not good if this interfers with your trip ! But I have to tell you I shook my head on your comment of leaving DH at home and taking Joy LOL that was funny cause, yea I can see you doing that ! I am still smiling at that LOL -I hope all the doctor appointments go well for you this week. Loved the blogs and the flowers, thinking that might have been your highlight of your vacation. Very beautiful gardens !

Betsy, I really hope DH medically behaves himself and sticks to his limitation. I have to agree with Cathy about the surgery not being delayed but I am not an eye specialist so not sure what additonal damage can happen. They do amazing things with eye surgery these days, but it still scares me LOL How are you doing otherwise ?

Anne, hope the work day is going good. Love the hair, did you colour your toes at the pedi? I did last time and its already time for another one but it has to wait and I will trim them best I can for now. The toe nails grow so fast !

Terri, great pictures, and good work ethic is so hard to come by today, bravo for teaching good work ethic now in those younguns Are you happy to be home in your own bed ? I am sure you no doubt missed it ! All that laundry !! Good of you to help ! My sister brought over a huge zucchini - its the size and shape of a pop bottle, its getting zoodled in time LoL I hope it zoodles good too !

Break time over back to work !!!

Morning! Got my 7K steps by 9 AM today--did a run/walk for much of 3 miles, then walked the rest of the way home. It is raining now--was just SO HUMID before!

We are getting into vacation mode--sharing packing list info and info to take the train into the city from the airport. I am just looking forward to seeing my girls.

Betsy--DH DOES have to take care of his eyes FIRST. The first days of school are NOT more important. PERIOD! My DH will have his cataract done on Oct 10.

Anne--I hope things went okay.

Cathy--glad you have the appointments--can DH still have the cyst surgery? I would expect the wound wouldn't impact that really. He will just be more uncomfortable.

Terri--you guys did have a lot of work to clean up your shed! But yes, if everyone pitches in, it isn't so hard. We usually stay to clean up after a church dinner but couldn't always when the kids were little. Looks like you brought home lots of the animals--correct?

Lindie--getting ready!!

I just got a phone call--the massage person that I REALLY liked has returned to our massage place and they called to tell me! So I have a massage for Wed after the cruise. I am SO HAPPY!! LOL

My weight is up, my get-up-and-go is gone--and I am going on a cruise where DD1 said they feed you ALL the time. Oh, well--guess I will try to be reasonable but will start again in the fall challenge....

Dianne, glad he didn't complain too much and had a decent weekend out of the home.
Betsy, oh, my, but wouldn't it just be better to have the surgery and not have any crisis happen during the school year as that has been happening too much. Will the kids be there the time he has the surgery? I know the teacher likes to set the tone and get the kids used to a routine asap but his eyesight is definitely more important. Our kids don't start until after Labor Day so around here, all he would miss is those boring meetings they all have to go to. And he would only miss a couple of days for the cataract surgery and he might be able to arrange that when he has a professional day and have a good excuse not to go to that,
Terri, interesting pictures. Good for your group in pitching in and doing what is necessary. It used to be that way all the time but doesn't seem that way anymore. I know I try to pitch in to help clean up at church when we have an event unless Dh is with me---he doesn't want to hang around so I have to leave when he is ready.
Anne, hope you didn't have to be too long at the station and got to the bible study.
It was nice to have the nurse check out his ankle---she agreed with me that it needs to be left in the air whenever possible. She made sure we had all our appointments set up and the next visit will be on Friday since we have appointments at doctors the next 2 days that will change the bandage there. I do need to call and let them know that we have the doctor appointment at 1 on Friday to remove that cyst. At least we don't have our gd today which would have added to our busyness.

On my phone, so thanks for all the updates & pictures. Waiting at the rectory to pull dinner out of the oven. Wicked late for the gas station. I need to figure out what to make or get for our dinner. Wanted to get to tonight's Bible study, but that will depend upon the gas station!
Back tomorrow to actually read and respond.
Have a good night.

%#*&!^@% -- I just lost a LONG post that I've been working on ALL day!

Now you're just going to have to wonder about my night in the back of my SUV because I'm not going to take the time to type all that out again!

I have to run out to the ranch and take Sarah's clean laundry to her and then go to Jennifer's to collect a mountain of garden produce that she doesn't have time to deal with. Meanwhile, here are a few pictures of our last morning at the fairgrounds. It was cleanup day and all the animals were loaded onto the stock trucks at the crack of dawn. The entire covered area was full of pens for the goats, sheep and pigs when we started as you will see if you look in the background. It was a hive of activity with adults and older kids taking the pens apart and moving the panels, while kids of all ages were wielding snow shovels, brooms and wheelbarrows to clean up all the shavings that had been bedding for the animals.

Allie Grace (one of my "adopted" grands) and Rylan, hanging out with his pigs before saying goodbye

Cousins Ben and Christian standing by. See all the pens behind them?

"Adopted" gd, Savannah with her lambs. The red building in the back is the steer barn.

Blaine waiting the word to send his pigs to the truck. DS1 is a blur behind him.

The next two show the barn AFTER the pens were broken down and the floor swept clean. They only left a pathway of shavings for the steers to walk on to keep them (and everyone else) from slipping. Cattle tend to leave a slippery trail behind them when they walk.

Ben and Blaine waiting to lead their steers to the truck--and some others walking the path of shavings through the barn to the loading chute.

Grands Ali and Pablo were a little camera shy--or I guess they were busy breaking down pens with the adults and other high school kids when I had the camera out. Everyone pitched in (even me) and helped and it was amazing how quickly that barn was cleared and swept clean. We were complimented by the barn manager for our club's effort. He said, "Your group is amazing the way you all just jump in and get to work--from the kids to the parents. I never see that kind of participation from any of the other clubs." That really blessed me because that's the kind of work ethic we're nurturing.

Popping in quickly to say DH has an outpatient but lengthy surgery set up for Mon, August 26, horrible timing for a teacher! He has a pre-surgery physical on Monday, a follow up retina visit in town o Tuesday and then we'll see how he's doing. IF he is better, we can cancel the surgery. IF he has the surgery, cataract surgery will follow within six months. The surgery has to be in Neenah and he has to report at 6 AM so we would spend the night on Sunday. I pray he continues improving and we can put this off until next spring or summer but we will do what we have to do.

Dh is going to finish at the park but he isn't allowed to do anything that might jeopardize his safety, like use a saw, because his depth perception is off. Thank goodness it is only three days! His reading restrictions have been lifted but I am still kicking him off too much screen time.

Back to work...

Morning! Housework is in progress and I did get to see Bob yesterday. His visit was ok--thank goodness. We had a very nice dinner last night with friends--I made zoodles and added pesto that I had frozen last year--it was really good. I slept in some today--just needed the sleep. So now--getting stuff done.

Cathy--I am glad you can get some help. I hope things will heal faster than they think!

Back to work....

Dianne, did you get the housework done and a visit to Bob?
Betsy, did you get your Dh to behave?
I called the wound center--they can't see him until Thursday---so I called the hurse's station at the hosptial---they told me to do that if we couldn't get in quickly---they listened to my issues and got the ball rolling for a nurse to come to the house to change the bandages---now sure how often they will come but at least someone who knows what they are doing can take over. But the nurse did tell me it could take several months for this ulceration to heal---that just thrilled me---NOT---with our plans for Disney in just over 2 months. I swear I will leave him home and Joy will come with me----LOL So prayers that it doesn't take that long. So right now we have a doctor appointment on Wednesday with his regular doctor, the wound center on Thursday, and cyst removal on Friday if his regular doctor thinks it is okay to do that. I did go to the pool last night----felt so good---not sure if I will make it Wednesday night since his appointment is late and it is in OC.
Michael came by yesterday and showed me how to get my photos to my computer where I could make blogs from---so I did 3 flower blogs if anyone interested.

Morning! Anne--my new haircut is lots like yours! We sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame and Oh, Susannah and Always and that type of song. Pretty much all before the 60s. And DD2 does now live alone--in a very small place but it will be fine for her. She is living between White Plains and Poughkipsee.

Cathy--I hope you get in to the doctor today for DH.

Betsy--I hope your DH will cooperate--remind him how important it is!!

Terri--welcome home--you will be busy. I have to clean today to be ready for company tonight.

Lindie--we are counting the days--and I am both excited and nervous about the trip!

Well--off to get some work done here! I do want to get to the home to see Bob and find out how the weekend went.

Anne, that is quite the change---I wouldn't have recognized you . That should be easy to take care of. Glad you found time for you. You will find things to do at the rectory if they don't make more work for you---LOL
Dianne, glad you were able to help DD2 and saw her new place. It might be a lot smaller but at least it is all hers and she is not having to share anymore. Nice that the patients recognize a friendly face---it's because you bring memories back to them with the old songs.
No news from Betsy---not sure if that is good or bad.
Terri, glad you are home---that is a lot of laundry. Looking forward to hearing more of that adventure. Good that you all had help in unloading all that stuff. Bet you are glad to be back to your own bed.
Michael came by yesterday and did some things for me---mostly cat related. I did go to church and dh was okay on his own. Will be making phone call about 8 to see if we go today or tomorrow. Hoping today.

I was able to read the posts through yesterday, but haven't been able to catch up with today's. I don't have time to respond now, but wanted to let you know that we made it home safely and without mishap. The kids did very well in the arena, showing their animals and did well on auction day, too. This morning, they broke down all the stalls and cleaned the barn as the animals were loaded onto trucks to go to the meat processors. I've had the laundry machines running since we got home and just put in the 5th load.

I brought home Sarah's laundry for the week and wanted to get as much of it done as possible tonight so that I can take at least some of it to her tomorrow. I'm sure that I have most of the kids' clothes here! Jennifer has 2 laundry baskets full of garden produce in her kitchen that her mother picked while we were gone, so something is going to have to be done with that. I'll go out and see how I can help there. Some of the cucumbers may go to the chickens if they're too big. I have a few ripe tomatoes here in my tub planters, and I see that I also have some bell peppers and poblano chilis too.

Timothy was here with his dad soon after we arrived home and he stayed with us so he could help Pop unload all our gear and put it away. That was a huge help!

More later. I'm off to bed.

Good afternoon friends, its a quiet day here today, Gene has gone to work and I am relaxing after lunch doing some spiritual reading - I pick charactors from the bible, like say Jonah and then I read the book/chapter etc about that person.

Anne, yea to you pampering you !!! WELL DONE ! Yes love the hair ! Course I am a fan of short hair these days as I do not have the strength in my hands to hold the blowdryer for a long time. I know I could get a lighter one, but I like the one I use - in summer I use the cool setting and its warm enough to dry my hair without me getting all hot LOL ! Did you paint your nails too ? I think its good you are not pampering these new priests you work with, and thank you for explaingng your preferences with Fr B - but I think we all knew that LOL

Have a good day tomorrow when you head back to work !

Dianne, good idea on the hanging clothes dryer - I have one from the dollar store, its round and I can hang a few items from it as long as the items are not too too heavy. My sister has a small place too but it works for her, so hopefully this place works for your daughter, and if she is at work most of the time, small might be better to maintain then larger and no more room mates ! What song list do you use, are they classical or other ? Look forward to seeing you next weekend eh !

Cathy, how is the day going ? I hope you get that appointment ok and be sure to let the other place know right away if you are having issues. Glad the boys are helping you and their dad too. When do you go back to work ? I hope this all resolves itself as best it can before you go back to work.

Terri, has your weather cleared up? I am sure you will tell us lots of particulars that you can once you get home on your regular computer I know how hard it is to use a phone.

My mother had a family bible that she must have been given when she and my dad got married, I would think, I used to love looking at the coloured pictures in that bible - one was of Jacob and the ladder - so off I go to explore Jacob !! Have a good one eh !

Hi all!

Dianne, sounds like you got a lot accomplished for DD2 yesterday. Where in NY is she living? Does she have a roommate or is she in a place by herself? Glad the Alzheimer's smile when you come in! Do you play a piano or guitar or do you sing a cappella? Would the home appreciate you more if you had hospice training?

I just got back from having a "pamper me" morning! I had my hair cut and colored at the hair salon and then went for a mani-pedi at the nail salon. It was delightful!

I did do a lot for Fr. B. Originally I just cleaned, but I think he was aware of how much more I could do other than housekeeping that he opted to utilize me. Also, we had a very special friendship and he knew that I would keep anything I saw, heard, or discussed with him confidential, if necessary. Besides, he is about 20 years older than our current priests, so he grew up in the priesthood where there were housekeepers that took care of cooking, cleaning, and laundry and therefore he was used to having these things done for him and I just did them, lol! Fr. J & Fr. L lived on their own prior to becoming priests, so the are quicker to "fend" for themselves. Not that Fr. B couldn't fend for himself, believe me he can, lol! I do have to admit, though, Fr. B had a lot more laundry! I'm sure once I get into a routine I will wonder what why I didn't think I had enough work any more, lol!
Going to make some lunch and try to figure out dinner.
Have a great rest of the day.

Anne

ARg! I went to visit DD2 yesterday and never got on here! So sorry!! We had LOVELY weather--traffic going theother way from us was awful but we were good. Got to see DD2's apartment--it is much tinier than I had envisioned but it will work for her. We took a hanging clothes rack, a book case and some other storage stuff so now she can unpack. Worked around her place for a chunk of the day--then took her out for a nice lunch. In all, it was so good to see where she is.

Betsy--oh, no to DH eye issues. I pray that things settle down and are okay. So sorry you missed the Taste of the Town but yes, he does take priority. Keep us informed, okay?

Anne--glad you had a "boring" day at both jobs! Hope that keeps up. Funny that most of your time seemed to be caring for one priest! We WILL figure out a get-together since you are going to be the only team member I haven't gotten to meet! Hope you enjoyed some quiet time today.

Cathy--glad you have H home but it is hard that he can't get around easily. Hope you can get appointments in a timely manner! I am glad you have someone doing the lawn--hope the boys step up and assist without you haven't to ask too much. Sounds like you are going to be busy this week. I agree--you need to do what YOU need as well.

Lindie, I am not a fan of lamb but guess I may have had it in gyros. I need a wide shoe but thankfully don't have too many issues finding the right shoe. We are getting excited about the trip--there are supposed to be 24 hour washers/dryers on board so we will end up doing laundry. See you next week!!

Terri--guess I am glad it rained but sorry you were getting wet and had to move. I am no longer comfortable in a back seat WITH someone! LOL I do hope all is going well!

So nice visit with DD2. Shared packing list with the girls--haven't had them add to it yet. Church was nice this AM--I will miss part of the week with our guests and I have passed the responsibility for this go-round--I delivered the plastic containers and the juice, etc that I had purchases and told them where stuff was--I will do clean up over Labor Day since many will be away. We have company coming for dinner tomorrow--so I need to plan my menu and get things cleaned up.

Bob is at his son's house for a bit party yesterday and today--I hope he doesn't get into a fight with his son. They have in the past. The singing went well--we do at least 25 songs in the hour--sometimes more. I have a list and one book with lots of them in it so I use the list and the book--I do need the words for many of them. They really do smile when I come in--I wish I could spend more time there but....doesn't work out. I may go for training as a hospice volunteer--we'll see.

Anyway--hi to all!

Anne, I love lamb but like Lindie said, want it cooked Mediterranean style. Interesting that you aren't as busy at the rectory now that you changed Fathers. You went above board for FatherB. Hope you and J got those things done. It was nice here with low humidity. I almost sat out on the porch last night but wanted to stretch out on the couch so didn't do that.
Betsy, oh, my---that is scary---and so close to school starting--maybe he needs to stop at the park earlier for health reasons because he doesn't want to mess with his full time job. Glad the girls brought you home samples. Yum to the brownies.
Dianne, why do you keep forgetting us? LOL
Terri, and the answer? LOL Hope the kids animals sold for high prices.
It was Matthew who helped on the first night---the oldest one. I can tell you I am very thankful that Michael bought his dad the lift recliner so many years ago---it has been a real help with Dh getting up and going to the bathroom on his own with crutches---we have the walker for when we go somewhere but the bathroom is not wide enough for that so the crutches for that.
I do plan on going to church today--he can call if he needs me. I left him for a bit to go pay a bill and he was okay.

Betsy, did DH have any signs prior to losing his vision that there was another retinal problem beginning? I hope he was able to sleep sitting almost upright. I hope you were able to sleep, too! Did DD1 & DD2 have a good time at the festival? Sorry that you couldn't go, but more sorry that DH has this issue going on! Hope it is better this morning so that you do not have to go back to Neenah. emoticon emoticon
Did you go back to the farmer's market before DH's issue? Insurance companies can be such a nuisance when you file a claim. I am glad you do not have to deal with them due to storm issues! Thanks for the info. I will put the title, as well as the Outlander Series that Dianne is reading on my "check the library" list.

Terri, what kind of a night's sleep did you and Steve have!?! Was there no room for you in the village? Or was the rain so bad that your area got soaked? Betsy's comment cracked me up! Hope the families did well at the auction! Looking forward to some pictures!

Lindie, I thought of you while making the lamb because you often would mention getting lamb. Good idea about the coffee beans. I used the nasal spray I have for allergies. It has a menthol scent and it helped a bit. I did go to both jobs yesterday and at both places I was able to just get things done without any issues. The rectory did still smell like lamb so I lit a candle in the kitchen while I was there and then before I left I sprayed the kitchen with "clean linen" air freshener. I'm going to have to look up Mediterranean lamb recipes and see if I can find out what they do. Glad you were happy about the rain coming in! Is it because it is so dry there, in hopes that the humidity or heat will break, or that you like rain at night? LOL!

Hi Dianne and Cathy!

I did work both jobs...regular Saturday stuff, but no extra work at the station and the ironing I didn't get to on Friday. I was at the station 1.5 hours and the rectory about .5 hours. We went to the 4:00 Mass and then had burgers on the grill. A very exciting Saturday...NOT! Today J is going fishing with his brother, yay! They won't be gone too long, or so they say. I do hope they are gone til after noon time. I want to go get my hair done and a mani-pedi...both my hand and feet nails are too long and they do a much better job than I do, lol! No other plans for the rest of the day...yet!

Have a blessed Sunday!

Lindie, I had pork Pad Thai and it was a bit too spicy for me but the crab rangoon was delicious.
emoticon for eating a red velvet muffin for us, I can almost taste it! The recliner was hurting DH's back so he is now set up with his head elevated very high on our sectional sofa. DD2 did bring me some brownie bites and they were amazing, won the prize for best dessert too.

Good Evening Friends, oh my Betsy, I hope DH does follow orders and sleeps in the recliner ! It's unfortunate to miss your favourite event, but you are right, DH is more important and DD2 can fill you in on the action- how was the chinese food ? I had a red velvet muffin from Walmart for you and me tonight - now I feel better that I ate it for more then just me LOL

Anne, yes I used the oven and I did do LAMB chops LOL I love lamb but wish I could make it Mediterainian I really love how they cook lamb, you hardly know it is lamb ! I wonder if you keep a satchet of strong coffee beans handy and inhale when you have that smell of lamb in your sinuses - I know that Saje uses that when folks smell one to many defuser oils to help them. and I remember once going to a Lush and all that scent was in my sinuses and we walked into a Starbucks and there it was the Lush scent was gone ! Coffee BEANS lol Did you have a good day today ? did you work both jobs as well ? I hope you found some small amount of time for yourself.

Cathy how is DH"s wound doing? I think you can go to the pool at least once this week, or do you think its best you stay home and watch DH - or maybe ask one of the boys to babysit him so you can go, I agree with Betsy, as the caretaker, you also need to take care of you.

Dianne didyou run today ?

Terri, oh my to the back seat, was it cozy or what LOL how are the kids and their animals fairing ? Any prizes ?

Its' raining and I hope it rains all night long ! I put some bunion pads on my toes that were digging into each other on both feet and it worked like a charm - once the shoes stretch a bit they will be ok. I have long nails - I get a pedicure at the end of the month, and I have two toes that the toe bed is slanted. Yes Anne I wish they fixed those shoe forms instead of catering to the mellenials - however, I have been told that European cobblers still use the "old forms" and I have had shoes from Brazil what were wide too !

Terri, were you reliving your teenage days in the backseat of the car? emoticon

Sadly, DD1 and I had to go pick up DH and drive him to Neenah to see the retina doctor as he lost vision in his left eye. We told DD2 to use the Taste of the Town tickets so I am missing my favorite summer event BUT obviously DH is more important. There was a ticket left for DD1 so she went and I am here "babysitting" DH. He is not allowed to do any close eye work such as reading, texting or computer use. Watching TV is allowed and encouraged, the one time in life that is true. There was too much blood in the eye to see much but the doctor said he is hopeful it will dissipate if he follows orders and sleeps in a recliner tonight. If he is better in the morning, we don't have to go back to Neenah and we can wait and see him on Tuesday. If not, we have to make the 90 minute drive back tomorrow and have his eye drained to see what's going on.

I have just ordered some food from a Chinese restaurant and we are about to watch Netflix. DD2 said she's bring me a plate so hopefully I will at least get a cupcake. emoticon

The auction is about to start. We had a heavy rain last night and Steve and I had to sleep in the back of the car! LOL

I haven't been able to catch up yet, but will as soon as I can.

emoticon We have already been downtown for breakfast at the diner and got to the farmers market briefly. We had to come back because DH had to be at the park by 10.I want to get back down there and check out the pickling cucumbers and a few other things. My aquaponic lettuce is already in the fridge and I would have had more but we kept on bumping into people we know. One of them went to college with DD1 and now works at DH's school. She had purchased a new car with her husband the Tuesday before the big storm hit in July and a giant tree fell on their garage and destroyed it on Saturday! The tree was so big, it cost $12,000 to remove it! I questioned that number and had it confirmed, twelve thousand dollars! They are now fighting with the insurance company for replacement of their car, again, we are SO lucky nothing fell on us because we have trees that easily could have done major damage to our home.

Anne, you are so right on women's shoes, they aren't made correctly! Yes, I finished the book and it is incredible. It is called Every Falling Star and it is by Sungju Lee and it really reminds us of how lucky we are to live in the society we do. That's too funny about Fr. B's keys! Our Outback is relatively new so we aren't planning to replace it any time soon. It is good to hear there's someone else out there who doesn't care for the smell of lamb. DH grills it every Holy Thursday so there's no odor in the house. Cooking your meat at the rectory is a great idea.

Dianne, I love books on tape but rarely have the quiet house I need to listen to them. I think I should fly to the coast and you can pick me up and drive me to Anne's house so we can all meet. Wouldn't that be cool? I bet you can't wait until next July because that is when I could do it. It looks like Landon will likely be going to a center where he will be in a classroom of 14 similar aged children. That scares me but it isn't my problem. I have him for ten more days and then I get my babies. I am still conflicted but know I did the right thing.

Cathy, why was a hospital so cold? In my experience, they are usually too warm. Will one of your boys spend the night to help Howard with any movement assistance or is he ok with the walker and crutches on his own? Prayers that he gets in to see that wound specialist on Monday and that the cyst surgery goes smoothly. Remember you are no good as a caregiver if you don't take care of yourself, make the pool a priority at least once and hopefully twice this week. I miss swimming a lot.

Terri, did the rides ever get fixed? How did all the kids do with their animals?

Lindie, it's good you found a shoe that works for you. Once I have a full house in day care again, I need to get a new pair as well.

Traffic was terrible on the highway last night but 18 people from the family gathered for organic pizza on a farm and they even had a band. The weather was perfect and we got to meet our newest great niece, Savannah! She is 16 days old and she's absolutely beautiful. There were chickens strutting all over and some people even carried them around! There were also a lot of cats and one was sitting on the hoop as happy as can be as one of the patrons was trying to drive out. Somebody had to walk over and lift the cat down or I think it would have gone for a joyride!

Tonight is Taste of the Town and the weather seems it will be perfect again, hurray! i will report on my favorite samples tomorrow.

Have a superior Saturday!

Hi all!
Lindie, did you get to use the oven the other day or did it get too hot? Would it have been advantageous to put bandaids or cushions in the areas that you "expected" to be problematic with your new shoes? I wish women's shoes weren't so barbaric! Our feet do not point, square off, or are rounded! I believe we all have feet that are longer at the big toe side and shorter on the little toe side so shoes/sneakers should angle, lol! Hope they won't be an issue once you've made the adjustment.

Betsy, thanks for the heads up on your daycare ages and numbers. Did you finish the book? J really enjoyed the chicken wings. They didn't taste as garlicky as they smelled while cooking. Fr. B lost a set of keys and after about 2 years he gave up on finding them. (They weren't found while packing up either.) He did go out and get a new set and shortly thereafter he got a new vehicle. Lol!

Dianne, I am not able to listen to books on tape...I usually end up zoning off or paying more attention to what I'm working on. I did get Audible for my kids when they were in school...guess they were better auditory learners than I. The storms have been pretty intense. Was the tornado that hit in NJ near you? How'd the singing work out? How many songs do you sing? Glad you're enjoying your haircut & color! We will have to make a plan after you get back and that way you will have connected with everyone here!

Cathy, poor Howard! Poor you! Glad he is home now and that Michael was able to help out. I sure hope you can get to see the wound specialist A.S.A.P.! Is he still having balance issues? Yay to having someone else do the lawn! We have the boy next door doing ours every other week; it has been wonderful, especially since I don't have to listen to J complain about how the tractor annoys his back! Hope you can get your kitchen clean quickly and that you can relax some today!

Terri, hope everyone is winning and having fun! Any other issues at the fairgrounds?

Time keeps flying by and I can't seem to catch up. The only thing that is good about it is that my day at the rectory goes quickly. This is good because I don't feel like I have as much to do there now. I guess Fr. B took the bulk of my time there. Yesterday I made lamb chops for the Fathers and J. I made pork chops for myself. I think that is what I should do from now on. I will buy or bring my meat and cook it along with the Fathers. J was thrilled to have lamb...we never have it. I do not like the smell of it at all! After I had dinner I immediately took a shower and threw my clothes in the hamper. Now I have to wash them...I need my bra, lol! I could still smell the lamb in the living room...we were like the "Wormwoods" in "Matilda" and ate dinner watching TV, lol!

I sent Rich a text saying I couldn't make it to b-fast today because I overslept and couldn't get there on time, lol! He hasn't responded yet. J and I are having b-fast at home today. No plans other than work...but if the temps are cool enough I think I am going to suggest taking down the frame of the gazebo area and the old bird feeder.

Have a good Saturday!

Anne

First the news, he is back home----finally got answer why it hurt for his to stand on it from the PT person---it's because the area it is at has no real excess skin and the swelling and nasty area is in the place that makes it painful to put pressure on it. He is to use a walker or his crutches for now. I have to change his bandage---yuck! but it did look a lot better when they changed it---I got there early so that I could talk to the doctor and ask questions---and of course the doctor did not come until lunch time---LOL I had Matthew meet us at the house to make sure Howard could get in okay and he went down and got the walker from the basement and stayed with him while I went to get a prescription filled. We have to call the wound specialists to set up appointment as they were closed by the time we were being sent home. Hope no problems getting in there but the nurse said if we did, then call them at their station and they would call and set it up because he has to be seen ASAP next week. They only gave me enough stuff to change his wound for 3 days and they are supposed to give us more.
Dianne, how exciting to know it is that close. How did the sing go? Does listening to the book keep you from doing certain activities? Good comments to Betsy's decision.
Lindie, do you have a wide foot to start with?
Anne, hope things slow down for the weekend.
After I got home my work pal that I give a ride to came by to chat--that was so nice to see him and hear about how things are going. Like having another son as a friend.
Have to figure out meals for the weekend. Mr. Jackie is coming by to mow the yard for us today. I need to do some serious cleaning in the kitchen and move more today. So glad to not have to go to the hospital and freeze. I have been wearing long pants and a sweater and was still cold there. It's a wonder I didn't get sick. We do know that Dh has a doctor appointment on Wednesday with his primary and supposed to have surgery on the cyst on his back on Friday plus adding in at least one visit to the wound center. Plus we have Reagann on Wednesday so I guess I will have to go get her. Just hope I have time to go to the pool next week.

Good afternoon Friends, a cooler but warm day today, went for a walk in the new shoes to break them in and now have sores where I expected. I can deal with that and I have to adjust the laces so that the back heel does not slip so much.

Betsy, they are NB - mens and the black leather ones as they have the 4E size that I need for the orthotics and look best with a skirt or dress for a runner - the ladies just do not cut it or provide the ankle support that is required. I did try some sketchers but the construction was too weak for the inserts - wish I never started with them sometimes, I have gone barefoot all day and paid for it the next day in the inside knee area.

Dianne, are you now getting excited for your trip ? I hope you enjoy Vancouver, and the run in the park - I am sure you can wash sweaty run wear at the hotel, but if not put them in a separate bag in a bag and wash them on the cruise ship, I think they provide laundry, but since I have never been on a cruise am guessing at guest services. I look forward to meeting you as well ! How is Bob doing ? Myu daughter likes that series of books too! How were the songs ? I love to sing, I just do not have a voice anymore ! So I mind sing haha there I sing perfect !! LOL

Cathy, I am soo sorry to hear about DH and the issues he is having. I wonder was he given any strong antibiotics that maybe causing some dizziness or loss of balance ? Was he better today when you went back? I know you dread his coming home and just sitting in his chair, you might have to get creative on ideas to get him OUT of his chair ! That must be some wound if he can't put pressure on his foot ... did they x ray to see if anything else is going on ? Hopefully all this is resolved before you head back to work ! Maybe do the pool tonight to help you relax yourself !

Anne, Terri, hi and hope all is going well for you both ! I know its Friday but that spells WEEKEND !!

Morning! Cathy--so sorry that he is having such issues. I hope the infection isn't causing balance issues. Hopefully he will be able to stay until they figure out why he can't put weight on it.

I listen to my book whenever I am doing something semi-mindless--sewing or any housework. I have a speaker on my phone so I can hear it easily--I don't like to use the headphones very much. I am trying NOT to start the next book right now--I have stuff I should be getting done! LOL

It is nicer today--a bit cooler but still humid. Didn't go for a run this AM--hubby invited me to breakfast instead. Stopped and got my passport from the bank box--lots to do to get ready for the trip. We leave one week from tomorrow! Lindie and I are planning to connect--Anne, you are the last one left for me to meet! We'll have to figure out something!!

Betsy--I know you are still feeling conflicted but Landon injured you more than once and you can't let him hurt one of the other children. He does have some issues--hopefully a one-on-one person will be able to help him deal with them so he can go back into a group situation.

I go to the home today to sing with my Alzheimer folks. I need to work out some songs--I like to have a list in the order I want to do them.

Hope everyone has a good day!

I will answer the question first---he didn't do anything to create this wound---it just started--he says last Tuesday/Wednesday when I was coming home---not sure if I believe it but he is prone to leg infections due to the bout with cellulitis way back. Being diabetic, he really needs to keep on top of this stuff. They put some debriding cream on it yesterday and bandaged it up so I didn't get to see it but they said it was improving---but he still can't put any weight on it which bothers me as much as the wound does---they say it has not gone to his bones but how come he can't put weight on it. He is having a lot of balance issues when he does get up---he moved to the recliner in the room from the bed with the nurse's help and he couldn't even get up on his own so I am worried about how he will do at home. No idea when he will be released but I imagine either today or tomorrow the way insurance is. I did come home earlier last night before it got dark and fixed myself some dinner and got some laundry done.
Betsy, don't feel bad about it---he really was unsafe for everyone----good luck to his family in finding someone to keep an eye on him. glad it is cooler there.
Anne, good idea to take some time off. HOpe it all works out.
Lindie, glad it is cooler---hope you sent cooler down to Terri.
Dianne, I wondered where you were. What do you do when listening to a book? I know you do it in the car and when exercising, but that sounds like you did it other times, too.
Back to the hospital today---need to go check my laundry to see if it is dry. The towels will have to wait to be folded but my clothes need to be dealt with. Going to be much nicer this weekend.

Well--I somehow didn't get on here yesterday and almost missed it today! I have been listening to my audio book--The Firey Cross from the Outlander series by Galbaron. The book is 55 hours so I was so close--I had to finish it. Too much reading--but I love to read.

Anne—DD2 had sent stuff home with us and she had all her kitchen stuff here so we are taking a bunch to her on Saturday. Bob isn’t too happy about getting a roommate—that isn’t going to be easy. So far he hasn’t moved his passport!

Cathy—what are the doctors saying about H leg? Good grief—he should have told you more!! Glad you took him to the ER. I will be taking laundry soap to deal with sweaty clothes on the cruise—I am a wonderful mom!!

Terri—sounds like quite the set-up at the fair! Hope the weather cooperates for you. Oh, my Terri to the fair losing its rides. I think I saw another county fair in WI that may have had a similar problem—although theirs may have been a scheduling snafu. Glad no one was seriously hurt.

Betsy—I am doing awful on the 5% Challenge—and the cruise is very soon! Not sure what I am going to do! And DD2 is the ONLY person who does animal care right now—good thing the cruise has been on the calendar for this long or she would not be getting it off. She has worked every day since Aug 1—and will till Aug 17 until Aug 27. HOPEFULLY she won’t have to feed the critters on the 27th. Congrats on winning the tickets and thank you for giving Landon the chance to go somewhere else—he is dangerous to you and others.

Lindie—everyone has liked the shorter haircut—and I like the not gray!! Glad you had cooler—we did, too. But I still sweat like crazy on my run!

We had LOTS of rain yesterday--over 2 inches and lots of thunder/lightening. Not sure if we'll have rain tonight but the weekend should be okay. Hope I get on her tomorrow!!

Anne, it was painful and difficult but I had to let him go. I did suggest one on one or a staff greater than two in a place with same age peers ( even though he is way behind them.) His mother did post a notice on Facebook that she's possibly looking for a nanny, I hope she finds one. Four or five is my usual number of enrolled children but it's best to stay lower with babies. Some are part time so I won't have more than four even though more are enrolled.

Terri, my keys went missing MONTHS ago and we still haven't found them, sigh, glad you found yours! You know when we finally decide to fork over the money to replace them, they will appear!

Anne, I completely understand being tired of the crap rather than fatigued. It's too bad you don't have passports, that is a place we have always wanted to visit. We almost did when we were in Maine but DD1 gets motion sickness so badly we just couldn't do it. I have faith you will come up with a great vacation spot to get out of Dodge, emoticon . Your chicken wings sound delicious but they would probably be too spicy for me. Let us know how they are and maybe I will try them for the rest of the family. My favorite wing recipe is in the crockpot with brown sugar and soy sauce. emoticon It's highly caloric so it is rarely made.

Lindie, we are enjoying cooler weather here too, the seventies with a nice breeze. I have worn New Balance for years but switched to Brooks the last time I purchased. I really like the look of Brooks but they have fallen apart faster. Do you have much of a choice for color or are you like me and stuck with one option in the New Balance? Nice pun on how Terri is "fairing!"

Cathy, I didn't say so but of course I have prayers going up for you and for Howard. emoticon I am also curious as to to the origin of the wound.

DD1 gave me a Young Adult book to read called Every Falling Star and it is a page turner, I have the children napping so I am going to get back to reading now. The book is a true story about a young boy in North Korea and what he had to do to survive.

Dianne, you must be busy today!

Good morning Friends, its a cooler day here today and I will be heading down town to Robson St to get my new runners from New Balance. It might warm up but I am ok if it does NOTlol

OH Cathy, I hope your day at the hospital is not too too trying for you. I am sorry to hear DH has a bad infection and glad it was not worse as well. Will pray for both of you, you to have strength to endure this and pray for good healing for DH ! I bet you wanted to box his ears when you saw that ankle !

Ah Betsy, it sounds like you made the right decision for Landon, he may very well need a one on one and I hope his parents can find a good fit for him. Will 4 be your normal number of children ? Did DH's brother have his surgery yet?

WOW Terri, that is incredible, I hope all electrical issues can be resolved for the showing of the animals. Is it cool your way too ? How is everyone fairing ( LOL )

Anne, you need a vacation, go ahead and take one - or maybe remove a few things off your plate ! You need a plate speed bump !

Dianne how is the color and cut ?

Do try and have a good day everyone ! I am thinking if it remains cool I can have the oven on later and might do some laundry when I get back from down town. Gonna have breakfast, clean up and head out.

Hi all!
Betsy, I'm sure it was a painful, but not necessarily a difficult decision to relinquish care of Landon. It sounds like Landon needs one on one care. I hope the parents will be able to get him the help he needs and that they will be able to afford it. You have had so many children that I'm not sure where 4 fits in...is it about the same number, less, or more? Prayers that all is well so the new parents will be able to share info on the 23rd!

Cathy, that is so scary! Do you think Howard would have gone to the hospital on his own if you hadn't insisted? Thank the Lord it didn't go into his bones! Prayers that the antibiotics take effect A.S.A.P. and that the wound treatment will work just as quickly! Do you know how the wound occurred? Hang in there!

Terri, thank the Lord that no one was injured. I hope they can fix things so that the kids will have some fun! Glad you found your keys! I have had the same kind of thing happen...look in the spot, nope not there. Go back and "voila!" there they are! Conspiracy theories kick in, lol! Stay safe!

Cathy is right, I am tired, but more tired of the crap than fatigued! I need to take a few days off from both jobs right now...just need to figure out the timing. I'd like to take a day or two by myself. It would also be nice for J and me to get out of Dodge for a couple of days. He is very busy getting ducks in a row for occupancy permitting on the 2nd building of the apartment complex that he is working on. Not really sure where we would go either. He would like to visit Rich and his wife who are on Prince Edward Island for the month, however, we do not have passports. We'll see what I come up with instead.

I just put in the oven some baked chicken wings. I used a recipe from AllRecipes.com that combined 3 tbls oil, 2 teas of chili powder, 1 teas of garlic powder, 3 pressed garlic cloves, and salt & pepper, to taste. Bake at 375* for about an hour til crispy. It smells very, very garlicky! I hope they are good.

Have a great day!

Anne

Cathy, thank goodness you insisted on taking Howard to the ER. Does he have a fear of doctors or is he just stubborn? I really wanted to keep Landon until he was 3 but as you said it was time to let him go, I just can't keep him or anyone else safe any longer..well, I will until the 23rd but that's it. I will have four in the fall plus Dela on Fridays. Michael doesn't come on Fridays so four will be my highest total. The new one wouldn't start until next summer and by then my youngest would be over one so it works out perfectly.

Terri, how scary for the worker who jumped off the ride and how awful to have possibly ruined the fair. What is it with power lines ruining fairs this year? Ours was the storm and power but still! Nellie's mom and dad haven't told anyone their news yet so I agreed to keep my lips sealed until after her appointment on the 23rd. If all goes well there, an announcement will be made.

Anne, it was a super long day yesterday---will post more on that in a bit. Yikes to making that mistake---you must have been tired to have done that.
Betsy, I am glad you finally had that last straw so that you made the right decision about Landon. You cannot be everywhere with potty training and he definitely is unsafe to have around the others. I imagine they have been expecting this to happen as they have to know from your reports to them about his behaviors in the past. And sounds like you will be having a new little one after the first of the year to replace him. How many kids in the Fall?
Terri, yikes to the electrical crisis--hope they can fix some of the stuff. Glad that worker jumped clear in time to avoid something major. Hope no more excitement there at the fair.
Yesterday we started out at the urologist where a new prescription for Dh was given. Then we went to lunch because we thought he had a scan at AGH scheduled about 1---to find out that it was in Salisbury---but it was discovered way too late to go there---but he had been basically in a wheelchair for both things as he couldn't put any weight on his foot because of the pain---so I told him we weren't going to play around any more with this and we went right to the emergency area since we were already there. He had not shown me his ankle but after they took off his sock and I saw it, I was very glad I insisted on this route---absolutely gross looking---so he was admitted and put on IV antibiotics right away. I am pretty sure they will debri the area today---at least I hope so as it has had oozing---but did he tell me that? NO! More tests today and visits from the wound care doctor there instead of in the office on Friday----I am pretty sure he would have been put in on Friday anyhow. And it might have been worse by then. Thankfully they are saying it had not gone to his bone---that is a real blessing. So I will be spending the day back at the hospital. Eating breakfast, just threw in a load of towels so at least they are washed and can be dried when I get home, making sure the cats have food and water and think I will pack some food for me to have on hand.

Betsy, I knew you'd know when it was time to let him go. I sincerely hope they find the right care for him, but know it will be hard to find a better place than yours. Why can't J know about the baby news?

Today has been a little cooler and things have all gone MOSTLY well. I say "mostly" because there was a power outage that shut down the entire fairgrounds. Then we found out it was the whole town that was out. THEN we heard that it was caused when someone was setting up a carnival ride and struck a power line, causing it to ground and surge thought every single piece of equipment connected to the carnival network. It left some grass burned and caused one man to leap OFF the ride he was working on when he felt an electrical tingle. It probably saved his life. People said he seemed to be fine, but was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Every ride that had been plugged in to that hub had its motor burned out and I'm not sure now if there will be much of a carnival for the kids on Friday. We'll see.
