Checking in from my phone, in the car on our way home from the coast. We had dental checkups this morning, took Aunt D to lunch, stopped for a few groceries and are now heading home. All is well. More later.

Good morning friends, almost lunch time here, its back to normal rainy damp BC weather - I can deal with it, I just use an umbrella - no shovelling !

Dianne, did you find the cold did not bother you at the gym once you got moving ? I found when I walked in the cold here, my coat kept me so toasty, I was actually sweating and too warm ! Course if I was just sitting I would have been ok - lol - It's unfortunate about Bob's situation, that happens, he's a vet, isn't he ? Can't he get into somewhere with other vets, that might be more to his liking ? Yes it is unfair for him to pay full price for 6.5 years then boom out you go - no loyalty, glad it was not 10 or 12 years - I doubt his son will help him, maybe his daughter, he may just have to move in with her after all ...

Cathy, how are you doing, are you feeling better, you got winter again ? lol after all that nice weather ? You can always call in sick tomorrow - or not, knowing you, its a not ...

Betsy, sorry for all the illness, but it is that time of year and winter is when folks get sick the most - lack of fresh air circulation for one thing. And only kiddies are still contagious after they get what they get for about 2 weeks into it - adults are contagious before the symptoms show up, so this has been brewing - hope a day off and maybe tomorrow too might be in order ... feel better ..

Anne hope all is going good for you where you are, how's your patient doing ?

Terri, are you getting lots done, and knitting/sewing again ?

Mare hope all is well with you ...

Hi! It is chilly here today--I went to the gym and the room was FREEZING--turns out the AC was on! How stupid!

Cathy--are you watching Call the Midwife or is there something else out there? I love that show and have read the book that they based it on. I hope you don't have to go out on a trip today/tomorrow--it is not worth it. We will take a shuttle from the airport to the ski hill and then we can use the condo shuttle to get around town. Even when we borrowed my SIL car, we didn't take it except to the grocery store. And when we go out for dinner on Thursday, we won't order too much--I can finish the meal at Roadhouse--we usually share a roll and just bring home the rest for the freezer.

Betsy--so sorry you are sick. I hope you feel better with some rest. I am feeling better--I hope I kicked the cold. Singing yesterday wasn't great but we all did fine--my voice was just "off". They enjoyed the time and I did too.

I did find out that Bob is going to have to move unless the "little guy" can beat the corporation--too much to explain but they won't keep him on Medicaid payments after he has paid full price for 6.5 years. I can't let him know anything....this could be hard. I'll see him today and Thursday and then we are off on vacation. Prayers for his situation would be good!

Hope everyone is busy and just hasn't gotten on!

Hi all!
Cathy, glad the draining of the knee helped some. I hope it doesn't fill up with your upcoming school activities and your recent shopping excursion at Walmart! It would be nice if the teacher cancelled or postponed the field trip. Would you be able to work, but not have to go? How is Jeremiah? How did Dalton do with the surgery...did his Mom contact your or the teacher? Yay to dh's new workbench! Hope he finds lots of things to keep him busy, but are not costly!

Betsy, I sure hope you don't get the flu! Are any of the parents of the sick kids ill, too? If you feel yucky or lacking energy, you probably should take another day to rest...it will hurt in the paycheck area though!

Terri, sounds like Steve should be done with the stair project real soon! I bet he will be happy with that! Sorry your gs got eliminated because it stinks to lose, but glad because you got some errands done! Sorry the tree didn't make it and glad your Dad was able to take care of it for you! Calendars are great no matter if they are on a computer or phone or calendar styles...as long as we put our appointments in them, lol! I had to reach out to one of my co-workers about an upcoming meeting date...yup, didn't put it in my phone! LOL!

Lindie, I like sweet potato fries and usually order them in place of french fries these days. How awful for poor Amigo. I hope he is feeling better. Nice that he will let you brush him! They have 2 cats here and 2 dogs...fur can get pretty intense, lol! Glad your sister enjoyed the items that you saved all this time! Do you still have snow?

Dianne, I hope Bob doesn't give you a hard time when you visit. Hopefully someone will visit him while you are gone! Sorry DD3 can't get to Colorado for the ice sculptures...take some good pictures for her! We try to use up things in the fridge before travelling. At Christmas we did not and came home to some yucky veggies in the vegetable bins. LOL! In case I don't write on the chat...safe travels!

Mare, I hope eveyone is doing fine!

J has a REAL ID and I will get mine next month when I have to renew my license. I saw no point in changing it out beforehand since I knew that my renewal date was prior to the "can't fly without it" timeframe. I should have no issues getting it since I now have my passport. J had no issues without the passport...we just made sure he had all the info that was requires (and then some).

Ashley is still having quite a bit of pain. I think she has a very low tolerance for pain, too. When they took the bandaging off Ashley got a bit faint. I think seeing the incisions kinda freaked her out. It was sort of sad and funny at the same time...but I wasn't the patient. She has 2 incisions...one on each side of the leg. The put in 10 screws and 2 plates. There were 3 breaks...actual breaks and not fractures. The x-rays were pretty neat and the separated bones were kinda gross, too. They rewrapped the foot, ankle and calf again, then put her in one of those very stiff boots. She is not a fan and has complained about it a lot! She goes back on Friday to have the stitches and staples removed. I do hope that once the stitches and staples are out that the boot will feel more comfortable; I think she's going to be in it for the rest of her "healing period."

The grandkids are crazy! I sure wish we could bottle up their energy and then sell it to those (like me) who need more energy! Makayla is a bit pouty at times and Bryce is all boy (and the one with the tons of energy). The amount of toys with a ton of pieces that are here is nuts! And of course, they love pulling them out and not putting back where they belong. Lol! So, guess who is going rather nutty! I do love things to be in their place, lol! Rotten Grandmother, lol!

My computer is very low on battery...time to sign off before I lose it! Have a good day!

Anne

Dianne, good planning so as to use up all leftovers before you leave. Just don't go anywhere Thursday and bring home more unless you want it for breakfast before you leave----LOL Too bad about Bob being upset but he will just have to except it---afterall, you are not even family but just a kind person who gives him attention. Hope that head cold goes away, but maybe a face mask on the plane? They say plane air is very unhealthy. Too bad your dd3 will miss the ice sculptures---hope you enjoy it and that the traffic is not too bad. Do you rent a car when you get there or use uber to get to the timeshare?
Betsy, I am glad you shut down for a day and if you still feel miserable in the morning, make it for Wednesday too so that maybe no one will come sick and spread the flu. Sure hope you didn't pick that up but possibly you could have it. Do you by chance have an air purifier to put down there to help clean the air down there?
HOpe I do okay today, but I wish we would cancel tomorrow's trip----I might talk to her about it and find out where we are going. The trip to Walmart yesterday really was a challenge---I managed it but I was sure glad to get to the truck and sit down again. I did help get the stuff in---Dh put the bags up on the new deck and I reached out and brought it in---put it away and then sat for the rest of the day! It sure was cold outside with that wind and today is a repeat---brrrrrr!
I watched more of the Midwife---about half way thru all the seasons---I didn't realize that there were 75 episodes!
Have a good day!

Illnesses are running rampant in my day care and we have now added influenza A and an ear infection. The doctors have decided an ear infection is just a virus so no antibiotics unless there is oozing or a fever that will not quit. My resistance must be down after strep because I am sick enough that I closed tomorrow and may close on Wednesday as well. I am on the couch on my phone but I am now heading to bed. Yes, Dianne, WI is in mourning but many of us expected it so we will survive.

Morning! How did I mess getting on here yesterday? Oh, well. I do rent ski boots but they are awful for walking anywhere--no flex/give to them at all. So I would like new snow boots but will wear my old hiking boots this trip. I did a workout on Saturday that has me sore today--I keep finding new muscles! My hips are feeling better--and I am going to work on squatting--our culture has stopped doing that and it may be part of why we are achy. I think it will help my hips--if I can ever work up to really doing it without falling back on my backside! Trying to do a little bit each day (think how the toddlers squat down--that is what I want to be able to do).

So we have sunshine, a breeze and cold temps for NJ--in the 20s. Betsy--I expect WI is in a state of mourning. I sure wish the team had showed up for the FIRST half instead of just the 2nd. Oh, well--now I can plan to ski and not worry about watching the Super Bowl. Hope you are feeling better--I have a head cold trying to move in but I will conquer it! Glad you enjoyed the dinner out and didn't overdo too much. I try to take a "take home bowl" with me when we go out so I don't overdo.

Terri--Steve has done very well on those steps. Tell him "good job". Glad you got to the canyon house--so you lost one tree--not bad considering you aren't there all the time anymore. DD1 didn't say too much about it being cold in San Jose--but she was still out and about with her runs, etc.

Cathy--glad the knee isn't worse. You are done with the weekly field trips the end of this month? I tried some CBD lotion today on my thumb--my right thumb gets really achy--I think arthritis--and the hairdresser had some for testing. See how it feels--I don't like to take too many over-the-counter pain meds--my mom has permanent kidney damage from taking them before she had her knee replaced. If this helps, I may get some. Hairdresser said his sister takes some orally all the time and her aches are gone. Not sure about that yet but who knows!

Lindie--glad the gift was a hit and your dinner out was nice. Hubby has promised we'll go out on Thursday--I have sort of cleaned the fridge and we won't have leftovers to eat by then! We leave Fri AM--looking forward to it! No plans for anything after skiing so we'll need to find something we want to do--I like having it to look forward to! Hope Amigo is okay.

Anne--I am sure you are busy. Hope the pain is lessening. It is so hard when the mom is laid up! At least it should be warmer where you are!

Today I sing at the home--and will pop in for a quick visit with Bob. Trying to spend some time with him before I leave on Friday. He is mad that I am going--and I told him sorry but I AM going. DD3 is also getting excited--she will miss the ice sculptures--they start making them today, finish on Fri and knock them down on Wed the 29th. They used to leave them up for 2 week ends but guess they want the parking more than the extra people coming in to see them. Traffic on the weekend when we arrive will be AWFUL. Lindie, he says it is the weight causing so much issues but I also think it was climbing up and down onto the bus last month. It was easier on Wednesday when I took my folding step stool so that will continue but honestly, I am tired of going every week and that ends at the end of this month. The tylenol arthritis does help ---dh and I both use it---I do find it helps at night if it has been achy all day---I will take it before I go to work and then about 12 hours later for sleep on those bad days. We buy the generic version and find it works just as well---my problem is that the darn pills are too big! Glad your dd was tickled to get those items.
Terri, sounds like some excitement with the wrestling. Glad you were able to support him plus get some errands run. We don't have that special ID yet but I have thought about it---honestly, i don't like paying before we have to and it is more expensive now---and I don't plan on flying anywhere! I do want to get a passport because Joy and I have thought about crossing over into Canada at some time or the other. Does that mean that except for the railing, the steps are finished? Now Steve can finish the basement wall---LOL Howard has built himself a little workbench in his new shed so he can play in there---heehee I am hoping he can find his hand sander and work on the new deck hand rail so it is smoother---we both have almost gotten splinters already.
Betsy, sorry you have a full blown cold now. Sounds like you enjoyed your dinner out and took containers for the leftovers. Your dd2 might as well move back in when her lease expires---this doesn't seem to be working for her.
I did go to church---didn't stand to sing---I did come home and rest afterwards--even had dh fix me lunch which he didn't seem all that pleased to do---LOL---but he better remember all the waiting on him I have done over the past 6 years. I have been watching The Midwife on Netflick---on season 3 now and almost finished that. At least I found something to keep my interest. No, I have not even looked again for those curtains but I might try again today. So glad I had a long weekend to recover with my knee. I sure hope I don't need another draining this week but if it acts up, I will go back as I don't want that pain to build up again like it did.
Have a good Monday!

Terri, glad you got a calendar so you will always know what day it is now. Yes, I have a Real ID, it was very easy to obtain because I have a valid passport. If you don't, there are other documents you need but as long as you arrive at the DMV prepared, it is a piece of cake! I wish I could have a piece of cake right now... Oh well, I am in two challenges so I won't blow it on that. I don't like going to strangers for massages either but sometimes it is the only choice.

Cathy, I am glad we are not the only people who can't find things in their house! Hopefully, your curtains will appear when you least expect it. I brought Pyrex dishes for Dh and myself but I didn't load them until after we ate. I was careful not to overindulge and even refrained from the delicious rolls in the breadbasket. I had chicken cordon bleu and it was amazing as always.

Lindie, you asked if I enjoyed my evening out and I did! Oddly enough, my little Dela's family Christmas for the adults was happening at the table right beside ours as DD2 was babysitting for Dela and four other children at Dela's house. How scary to see Amigo cough up a bloody hairball! That was a good idea to throw out the food if you think that was the culprit. DD2 is sleeping here again tonight because apparently there is a stray kitten in the parking lot of her apartment and she was afraid she would run it over if she went there.

I have only read as far as my last post and believe it or not, my sore and scratchy throat is now expanding into a full blown cold. Mia is returning tomorrow and Mom reported she is still quite clingy so it's going to be a long day. Hi to Anne and Dianne.

Here's something I learned a few years ago and thought I'd add it here for the yam/sweet potato conversation. It's all marketing and they're all sweet potatoes (unless you're shopping in Asia or Africa) I don't care what they call them. I like them in all their colors.

www.bonappetit.com/story/dif
ference-be
tween-sweet-potato-and-yam

I haven't gotten much of anything done today. Some laundry, some dishes, some cooking and that's about it.

Yesterday, we went to the coast and watched gs1 wrestle. I yelled my head off and had a great time. He lost his first, won his second, and lost his third matches. Since it was a double-elimination tournament, that ended his day and gave us a chance to cut out and run some errands before coming home. Lily had snow here while we were in the canyon, but just one day of it and then it began to rain. It's all but gone now although still pretty cold for California.

Steve laid out the stones for the second (and final) step and mortared them into place today. They will cure for a few days now before we walk on them, just to be sure they're set. Soon, he'll be making the handrails and finishing up.

I got a note from my dad, letting me know that he went out to the canyon and sprayed our fruit trees for us. That will prevent the borers and other pests, I hope. We found that we had lost an apple tree when we were there. I knew there was some damage from bark borers, but thought the tree might pull out of it. It didn't. I don't know if we'll replace it or let the root stock sprout and then graft onto it since the roots are well-established and have been in the ground for 3 years now. I'm leaning toward the grafting option but am aware that we may not own the house by the time it's ready.

I have my new calendars filled in with all the special days and upcoming appointments, so am hoping not to "lose" any more days! Steve was able to reschedule his eye checkup on a cancellation and didn't have to wait for months as I'd feared. The doctor said everything looks good and that his pressure is excellent, so his drops are working well. He has some cataracts developing but on a scale of 1-10, they are a 1 so nothing will be done for a while.

Cathy, I am concerned with whatever is going on with your knee. That does not sound good at all. What does the doctor say about all that fluid? Any idea of the cause?

Dianne, I love a good massage when things get tight, but it does hurt afterwards sometimes. My friend Penny was so good about getting the kinks out and working the problem areas. I don't have anyone up here and hate going to anyone I don't know.

Has anyone gotten the new Real ID yet? I don't have to renew my driver's license for a couple of years, so will probably wait a while but it's on my mind and I don't want to wait too long. We have so much going on that we'll have to schedule a day just for that, I think. The TSA agent at the airport let me know that I wouldn't be able to fly after October 2020 with just my driver's license as an ID, so I'll probably try to get it taken care of before then even though I don't intend to fly anywhere. You never know, though--I wasn't planning on flying to Florida until my cousin was killed.

Time to get off the computer and spend some time with my guy since he's come in for the day. Be well, my friends!

The difference between a yam and a sweet potato is their colour - one is more yellow and the other orange - the orange one is healthier ... the yam fries ( as the restaurant calls them ) was most likely coated with flour as they were crispy and good - the chipoltie sauce however was too hot for me but my daughter used it as she likes it. LOL The nurse in the family suggested I get Tylenol Arthritise and take 2 - 650 tablets every 8 hours, of course that is when the arthritise is acting up. I have taken them 2 times at 7 pm and it helped with sleep but now I will take them just before bed so they last longer - they are a timed release item. The box I gave her, lit up her face as she peaked inside and saw Charise's first pair of purple slippers and a pair of her first work boot style boots - I explained that at one point they were to be bronzed but that never got done and now she can do that herself if she likes. I also met her current significant other - they came for the BCR ( Army Cadets ) reunion and rented an AirBnB that they said was really nice - and local - I doubt I will see her again, not sure I will go tot he airport with them, no doubt they will ask my sister to drive them to the airport. Not sure what they are doing today but hope they have a nice time even though its raining but they can enjoy the nicer temps rather then Winnipeg's -37C which is close to Betsy's temps ! The left side of my hip is sore from where I fell, I dont' see any outward bruising but I am sure it will be ok, I am able to walk and go up and down stairs.

We had a scare the other day with Amigo, he puked up a hairball covered in blood - it was quite shocking and I have never had a cat do this. Earlier to that he had thrown up all his seafood dinner I had given him - within seconds of throwing up. The blood puke was aabout 3 hours later - He has been getting small meals since then and seems to be ok. I did research it and always it says rush to vet - well that can't happen at this time, but I am watching him. I am thinking he had a bad can of food - I threw what was left out .... I need to get a brush and brush him more often to help with furballs - he does not like the one we have -its a spiked and honestly I would not like it either !

Dianne, how is the hip today, she must have done a deep massage and that helps to rid the body of toxins - are you using any cream or what not for the pain ? Is it painful all the time, or only at certain times ? How is the family doing ?

Cathy, how is the knee doing, I bet you did not mind the needle they used to drain the knee so you could have relief of pain - The family nurse says to loose weight ( to me of course ) and the knees won't complain. Thinking I will have to tweak my diet again .... did you find the curtains?

Terri are you safely home now, how are things in your neck of the woods, did you get any of the wintery mix that was up here ?

Anne, how is the visit going, are you able to do any work for the gas station from there ?

Betsy, how are you doing, did you enjoy dinner out and was it relaxing ?

Mare I hope all is well with you and you are doing lots of horse riding !

Ok off to get things done, the dust bunnies are ganging up on me again !!!! emoticon

Dianne, wondering if the massage didn't aggrevate the hips worse. When you get in the pool in the deeper end, do hip circles--kind of like pretend you are an egg beater. Also doing diamonds helps the hips, too. Hope you didn't get too much there. Do you rent ski boots when on vacation? Do they work for just walking in snow? I do have a nice pair of Easy Spirit boots that I have to lace up and have found them pretty comfortable but thankfully haven't had to wear them very often here.
Lindie, glad you enjoyed your dinner---yam fries are probably the same thing we call sweet potato fries here.
Betsy, hooe you got what you wanted at dinner---and put half in a box for another meal--that is one way to enjoy what you want without going over your calorie count. Glad you are feeling up to going out.
My knee did feel a lot better yesterday but I took it really easy on it all day. I did get up and got my laundry in the washer and then dried and put away. I wanted to wash the dining room curtains and get them back up---and I can't find them---I have looked everywhere. Talk about aggrevating! It was hard enough to find something that would go with the paint color in there so it's not a place I can just go pick up something new. I have no idea what I did with them. I know I did not send them down to the basement---I don't put anything with cloth down there just because of the damp. Thankfully I still have the lace curtains up there.
The knee feels even better this morning so I might try to go to church---need to see how it feels when I drive.
Have a pleasant Sunday!

Lindie, I never had yam fries but I do love the sweet potato version. It is good that you had a nice family dinner with no drama. Ours was canceled last night and changed to tonight due to the bad weather. We are about to leave for 5 PM Mass and then we are heading to Michelle's supper club for dinner. Chicken cordon bleu is sounding really good to me right now but I will see if they have a lighter fare menu before ordering, darn this double challenge!

Morning! I am up--ready to go to yoga with a friend--and she just cancelled....this is the friend that always cancels....I should learn. So I guess I'll do a video--I think the step class aggravates my hip. I did check with the friend who does Reiki--and she suggested her PT people--who are out of network for insurance. I don't think that is going to work in 6 days... so I will stretch and do things that don't aggravate it. I did do the Zumba class yesterday--interesting teacher and group of ladies but I will go back.

We are supposed to get some snow and then rain. My folks had nothing yesterday at 3 (no more info from my dad on his health) but we expecting 1-3 or 3-5 inches. DD3 hasn't said so I don't know. DD2, even with the end of her flu, agreed to take care of the critters today cause the person who is supposed to is also sick and DD2 is the closest. She was feeling pretty good so planned to go do that this AM before the storm gets up here with snow--she expects 3-5 inches.

Lindie--I am sorry you fell! Glad there were folks around to assist--I'm sure you could have gotten up alone but help is nice. I have looked for a new pair of boots but haven't found any yet--we need them here so seldom. Enjoy your family get-together!

Terri--I'm not surprised the canyon house was cold! Glad you were able to check on things--it has been awhile since you lived there, hasn't it? Will you need to do that again to sell it?

Cathy--that knee procedure sounds painful. I am guess he is draining water? Did you do anything that aggravated it? Happy birthing day to Matthew! My birthday is the 23rd. Told my little practice grand that I will be 9--the digits in my age will add to 9--just like her. She has decided I will be 54. Gotta love her!

Anne--hope all is going well.

Betsy--I hope you haven't gotten too much snow--you were lots colder than my folks yesterday. I have a cold starting--figures since we leave next Friday. I do hope you can get some rest!!

So--off to find a video and then put away the yoga mat and Christmas gift I had for my friend. Keep warm, everybody!

Dianne, are you getting anything from the storm? We might get some rain but no snow here---thankfully. Did your parents get nailed by a lot of snow? How about DD2? I expect DD3 also got some of it. I bet Anne is glad not to be home now as it looks like her area will be hit, too. Kind of funny that Bob is so vain. Did you do Zumba? Hope your hips hold up to skiing but that might work out the kinks, too.
Lindie, is it a memento of her childhood or the kids? Hope you have a nice dinner out and that there is no issues brought up to make it disagreeable. Did Gene go, too? Yikes to falling---hope you are not too sore today. I know I was pretty sore for that whole weekend when I fell.
Terri, glad Steve was along to drive. I bet the canyon house was very damp and cold---glad you didn't go by yourself. Did you get a sock knitted on the way home?
I did get into the doctor yesterday---and he had to drain my knee. It felt pretty good at first but was an issue for the rest of the day. He did say he thought I might have to come back next week for more to be drained---yuck! But it does feel a bit better this morning. Using the cane instead of the walker though so that is an improvement.
Michael came by just before we needed to leave and took all the bins downstairs, undid the shelving units and bases, and took all that stuff back down, too. So I hope to feel up to putting some things back where they belong today but don't plan on doing too much with my knee if it hurts.
Matthew turns 40 tomorrow--so going to call him to see whether he wants me to cook him dinner or take him out. Also need to find out if he wants brownies or cookies---LOL Always be my first baby!

On our way home after having breakfast with Dad. The sun is shining, Steve is driving and I will be knitting after I post.

The service was well-attended and all the family that were there shared lots of stories.

The canyon house was a refrigerator!!! I got a fire started in the wood stove Wednesday night and it was better by morning, but still chilly. We kept it going all day while we were gone by putting a big log on and by last evening, the house was comfortable -- just in time for us to leave.

We pruned the fruit trees while we were there and saw that the garden area needs some attention and TLC, but that will have to wait.

Good morning Friends, its a good day today, the weather will be crappy later but for now its not bad and I am inside. I did get out for a walk to safeway with a neighbour and I slipped on a mat that was hidden under the snow and fell, but my neighbour and a kind gentleman walking by helped me back up - I am sore and maybe bruised but can walk ok. Sleeping is not good for the hip but this will pass also...

Dianne, it sounds like Bob has a bit of the "everyone is out to get me" feeling - I deal with that with my sister when things do not go right - its good you got him out of his room, but he does need to learn that its not all about him ... its too bad he does not want to make friends there, perhaps he figures waste of time ? I hope your daughter with the flu is doing much better, have you heard more about your dad ?

Cathy I am sorry your knee is not taking any weight bearing without pain and hope you can get in to see the doctor, perhaps you need to go to emerge so they can xray the knee to see what is going on.

Anne, hope your having a wonderful time, or as wonderful as you can, with family. How is Ashley doing ?

Terri, good you got to the gathering for family, I hope you have a good safe travel back home - not sure you are getting the same wintery mix as I am, tonight another storm moves in that will change to rain mid day Saturday...

Betsy, how are the kiddies doing and how is your throat, are you feeling better ? I agree with Cathy, you need some down time and a very slow weekend to recover - I hope you can do that ...

My daughter is in town tonight and we are all meeting at Whitespot for dinner, but not the one near me but the one we used to always go to ... will be an interesting night but I am glad she is coming as I have something special to give to her, which is actually her's to begin with. Have a good weekend everyone.

Temps sure dropped here! I am going to try a Zumba class today--I like Zumba but not too late in the day so hopefully this will be a good class. Tomorrow is yoga at the same place.

Bob is sure that all the residents talk about him so he'd rather stay in his room. He was very good looking and is still vain. NO one really cares but he is sure they do. Sigh I will get there this afternoon.

My hips are less sore after the massage--they have been so tight that she is helping. I am tempted to try Reiki--a friend does it. I don't know what skiing is going to do with them so tight and we leave next week.

Cathy--get better!!

Betsy--don't freeze! My brother flew out of Madison yesterday and they missed their flight since TSA took so long! Lots of people were really mad--lots of missed flights. He is glad to be in FL today.

Terri--safe travels!

Dianne, staying in his room is not good for him---hopefully you can convince him to go out for something else. Staying in the room just adds to his depression. Glad the pool helped the soreness from the massage. But I thought the point of a massage is to feel better---I would not like one that made me hurt more---I understand the need to work out the muscles but not to the point of them hurting. Any plans for the weekend?
Terri, sorry you couldn't stay longer down there to visit with others. But glad you were able to get here for the service. Are things okay at the canyon house?
Yesterday was our last day with Dalton for probably 2 weeks at least from his surgery scheduled for today. Hope it goes well and maybe it will help with his ability to learn---who knows, we can only hope.
I am taking the day off---my knee is as bad if not worse than it was---I had problems all night when I got up to go to the bathroom and could hardly bear any weight on it this morning. I am hoping there is an opening today with the doctor or at least on Monday---we have a long weekend anyhow. This is not fun at all!

Attended aunt's graveside service today and then fellowship time after with family. We drove through a torrent to get there, but now we're on our way back to the canyon and there is some blue sky. We had hoped to stay through the weekend but have to go home tomorrow. Gd Lily is staying at the house with Rosie and she has to work on Saturday. We plan to have dinner and play cards with the neighbors tonight, so that will be something. May not be able to get together with Steve's family, though.

I'm glad Anne has a safe trip.

Nice snow pics, Lindie!

I am sore from my massage yesterday--she targeted the sore spots and they are still complaining. But--the pool this AM helped as I did lots of stretching and easy movements. Ran into Kohls cause I have a 30% and didn't find anything that I wanted at a price I wanted to pay! So saved some major $$ today! LOL

Cathy--glad yesterday went well and you managed to take care of an errand while out. The teacher needs to sign in/out, right? So they know her hours?? Good heavens.

I was very glad to get Bob out of the program. I did it once before. Some of them are NOT worth going down but I think I will push him anyway--he will likely enjoy it even if they are a bit lame. (One husband/wife duo should not be rehired but they don't ask my opinion.) These two guys were great--the tenor was very good!

Day started sunny but now it is clouding over, very windy and it is going to get cold. Oh, well.

Betsy, yikes to those sick kids---hopefully that means that you will have a lighter load today. Glad you caught that before it hit the carpet. Sure hope you don't get worse with all the sick kids. Sounds like too busy a weekend ahead for you with not feeling well---you might need to stay home to not spread germs to others--I am sure they would rather not be sick. Lots of some virus going round the school here.
Anne, glad you arrived safely. Hope things go smoothly. How is her pain level now?
Lindie, that's a lot of snow for your area. Glad you figured out how to make the new boots more comfortable. I have such a high instep that most boots bother me a lot. Luckily I don't get snow that often but I do have a pair of lace up ones that fit me best if I need to go out to shovel.
Dianne, I wondered what happened to you. I bet those DuWop singers were good. Glad you got him out of his room for that---maybe it won't be so difficult the next time you try. No wonder he is depressed---cabin fever for me if I stayed put in one place!
I think Terri is either preparing to go to the Canyon for a very long weekend or is already there. She won't have internet in the Canyon right now if she is there.
Jeremiah did not come to school so that solved our whole problem. The kids enjoyed looking at all the animals. The bunny kept them fascinated for quite a while. They didn't like the snake or the tarantula---but neither did I---LOL We walked over to Michael's and I finally got a nice frame for the caricature I had done at Disney---half price plus an additional 15% off--so less than $15. The picture looks good in the frame. Then we went to Chick-fil-a for lunch and then walked over to Hobby Lobby before heading back to school. The 3 kids were well behaved and no issues whatsoever.
Knee is bothering me---not from the bus as I took the stool and that helped a lot---just very achy but not collapsing---so back to meds to see if that helps. I did ice it last night and that helped. but it is not swollen as I wore my skinny jegging jeans which I could not wear at all in December.
Dh bought the lattice yesterday and got one side closed in on the new deck to keep leaves from blowing underneath it. It looks nice what he got done.
Teacher is leaving early today-----see, she can't make a whole week without doing something like this----LOL

Not sure how I missed yesterday--but I did! DD2 is doing okay with her flu--eating soup and resting. She won't be back at work till Tuesday since no school on Monday. I had a 2 hour massage today--it was wonderful. She is trying to work on my hips which are SO tight! Bob is doing fine--I got him to go listen to the DooWop group that sang today--they were excellent and he really enjoyed it but it was pulling teeth to get him to go downstairs. I didn't get much exercise today--slept in (still tired), got massage and then sat to hear the group. And out to dinner at Roadhouse.

Anne--glad you arrived okay. Your help will be so appreciated, I'm sure. Did you get to check for free?

Betsy--sorry you have sick kids--hope YOU don't get sick.

Cathy--glad Red Hats was fun--where did you pick? Hope the surgery goes well. What did you do with Jeremiah?

Terri--I saw snow predicted for SF--does that mean you could get it , too? Sounds like you were busy but good busy.

Lindie--enjoy your snow. We may get some this Saturday into Sunday. DD3 said they will have snow on Saturday. So we'll get it overnight. I just want snow in CO.

Tomorrow--pool class and then housework. Yech.

We sure are having some crazy weather patterns - lots of snow over night and gale force winds expected over night tonight - well I plan on sleeping then. I did get some new boots but they were too tight no matter what I did, so I took the sole inserts out and put in sole inserts from my old NB shoes and then my orthotics and it worked like a charm - boots are no longer tight - just a little sore on the big toe where the boot box tends to bend, as its a soft, not hard cover. Water proof and kept my feet very warm when I went out - still slipped a little bit but these are much lighter and easier to wear then my other ones.

Here's Gene's car - he had cleared it off completely before the new snow fall :

Anne, glad you arrived safe and sound and I am sure you will pick up the routine without a problem ! Try and enjoy your visit as much as you can.

Betsy, how many kddies showed up and how is your throat, is it better ?

Cathy, no cages - but I hope the kids enjoyed seeing the animals and petting them if they could - did you sanitize their hands afterward ?

Dianne, are you lost in cyber space ? LOL How is your DD2 doing, I believe you said she had the flue - how was Bob when you visited ?

Terri, have you gotten snow up where you are ? its' crazy here !

Mare hope all is well in your neck of the woods and you are enjoying some horse riding too !

off to get some lunch, have to go to safeway this aft - not all walk ways are cleared off, as they need to be ....

All went well...flight was almost on time, but the pilot must have stepped on the gas because we landed early. Going to learn the routine here today and will assist tomorrow and then be on my own on Friday.
Back when I have my computer unpacked.

Cathy, I wound up using my computer time to view an hour long presentation from the Community Weight Race that I am in. It was only going to be up for 24 hours and the time was nearly up so I needed to do that. It was very interesting, the topic was goals. I found it ironic that the lead story on the home page here today was also about goals, is the universe trying to tell me something? It's a good idea to take a step stool with you on the field trip, protect that knee! I am envious of your Red Hatters group, I just don't see any around here. A prayer emoticon just went up for peace on the field trip today.

It was so busy here all morning yesterday that DH texted to see if I was OK mid afternoon. My gang isn't bad, they are just at difficult and exhausting life stages. See? I can't even keep up with my morning check in messages to my husband, sigh.

14 year old Aiden attends a Charter School and they are presenting a Celebration of learning that is open to the public from 6- 7:30 tonight. If it isn't too snowy, DD1 is driving in and I will meet her there, should be interesting . Of course that takes me away from the computer again so I probably won't get back here. I am thinking I need to carve out a few hours this weekend but we'll have to see what that brings. DH's sister is throwing a surprise birthday party at a restaurant on Friday night for his other sister so impromptu family events may pop up.

Dianne, emoticon for your father and your family.

Terri, emoticon Congratulations on the upcoming bundle of joy. We want marriages but life's patterns sure are changing, all we can do is love no matter what the circumstances.

Anne, I hope things settle down for your dear DIL soon and her pain lessens. It is wonderful that you are able to go back down there to help.

Lindie, I am going from memory but did you mention Gene wore a size 29/30 waist for his pants? Our DS also fits in that category, not much to him!

Mia left at the end of the day with a 102.8 fever yesterday so today will be a little bit easier unless somebody else gets sick, it is that time of the year. My hands are raw from constantly washing them.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

It is now 10:30 and I have sent another ill child home. Mom came just in time because he vomited on her as she prepared him to leave. I heard the tell tale sound and got a bucket to them quickly so nothing got on the Day Care carpet, phew!

Anne, it is Dalton having the surgery, not jeremiah---he is just upset that he cannot get on the tablet anymore. Wow, you did a lot the other day and hope yesterday did not run you off your feet. Hope your trip is full so you can check your bag for free---I don't understand that at all but then I don't plan on flying anywhere --LOL Safe travels today.
Betsy, guess it was a busy day for you.
Dalton's mom sent us more info yesterday----some bone in his spine is pressing and blocking spinal fluid----sounds pretty serious in the surgery department----betting there will be some restrictions when he comes back so hoping he is out for a while to completely heal. We can't always control what happens in the hallways---we do try to go when they are close to empty but with the kids nowadays, they don't go to class when they should.
Field trip today---teacher got a grant for a class pet from Petsmart--so we are going tere to pick up the tank and look at the different animals. We are getting a fish---probably a beta--as they are easiest to care for.. I am taking a folding stepstool with me so as not to injure my knee again---the handicap bus has a very high first step! The kids will enjoy seeing the different animals---we talked about different animals we might see in there yesterday. We are conflicted about taking Jeremiah---afraid if we leave him back they will let him get on a tablet to keep his occupied. Teacher wanted to take a packed lunch from the cafeteria for him when we eat lunch but I told her no way as he would have a major meltdown on us in public and no way I want to deal with that with no backup. So we might stop and get lunch for everyone else and take it back to the school and have him get the school lunch there. Or we might relent--have to see how he behaves in the stores today----he has been very aggressive and saying nasty things in the room because he is not allowed on the tablets---so he is definitely struggling to control himself. I told him that is really bad when he has me mad at him as well as the teacher.
Nice night out with the Red Hats---we had a lovely dinner and 2 new members joined. Very nice ladies and I think a good addition.
Have a good day---and keep us in your prayers in dealing with Jeremiah today.

Cathy, maybe the upcoming surgery is what has been getting Jeremiah so distressed. It would be very good if he could break that habit of yuck! I'm sure he will be a pain the rest of the week! Have fun with your Red Hats!

Terri, congrats on the new grand and congrats to Shelby for finishing the course. If everyone likes the young man and they are in a good place, hopefully a wedding will happen. Hope Steve is able to get the things he needs to work on those projects. Solar lights will be nice to have.

Lindie, I hope the weather is clearing. Is the snow expected to freeze or will the temps warm up soon? Gene must have been really, really cold if the bath didn't warm him up. Sure hope he doesn't get sick!

Dianne, when does your Dad go for more testing and more information? I do not know if I'd enjoy a 2 hour massage. I have had 90 minute ones and have felt like it was too long. However, I did enjoy my day spa time where I had an hour facial, an hour massage, lunch and a mani-pedi, lol! Have fun with the girls!

Betsy, hope you are feeling better!

Mare, hope you are still feeling less stressed!

I worked my butt off at the rectory yesterday...actually it was my legs and my back! I set up for a collation after a funeral, straightened out the church for the funeral (weekend Mass attendees just do not know how to put the hymnals back), changed vestments and linens from Christmas to Ordinary Time, and rearranged the leftover poinsettias. My legs and back were throbbing by the time I got home. Hopefully today will be a more normal day, though I will assist, if necessary, the putting away of the 2 creches...one in the church and one outside of the church. We have to leave for the airport around 5:30 tomorrow morning. I wanted to be able to get my stuff into a roll bag so it will fit under the seat, but I think I will have to deal with an overhead bin. I am hoping that the flight will be full and that I can check it at the gate for free! Back to work!

Have a great Tuesday!

Anne

Dianne, at least she went soon enough to get the new meds for the flu---hope it helps and good that she got the doctor note for it. Hope she has enough food stockpiled that she doesn't have to go out again before she feels really well. Did you see Bob?
Terri, when I saw what day it was I thought it was so appropriate for you. Hope you got a lot of that clutter taken care of.
Lindie, glad he decided he needed different footwear---bet his other shoes were still wet. Nothing more miserable than cold/wet feet. Good idea for him to thaw out in front of the open oven. I love when it is cold to open the oven up after cooking something and have the nice warm heat bathe over me. Hope he doesn't get sick from being so cold. At least you did not have to go out in it.
The new dryer arrived---undamaged---and they made sure it was working before they left. Dh did pretty good on figuring out how to use it and even figured out how to clean out the new lint filter on it. It opens up so holds more lint. We put it to a good test yesterday. Dh did 3 loads of laundry before I got home---last one was in the dryer when I walked in. I did one load of mine, split into 2 cycles---heavier pants and then lighter stuff---and then I put the towels we hung to dry in there on air fluff to soften them up a bit. So we both were pretty busy putting away laundry. He had brought up the last bin from the basement so I packed up the last of the Christmas stuff that needs to go to the basement.
Jeremiah was a real pain yesterday---still upset about not using the tablet---and definitely off---and Dalton told us he is having surgery on Friday---removing some bone from his back/neck?. I talked with Mom when she picked him up----he could be in the hospital for 2 to 5 days and not sure how long he will be out afterwards per doctor orders---she looked pretty worried and I did not ask particulars as I felt that was none of my business. She said she would let us know more after the surgery about when he will return---bet there will be things he won't be allowed to do for a while but we will see.
Tonight is Red Hats and I am the hostess. Only 10 said they were coming but that is okay.
Have a good day!

Just got off the phone with DD2--she has the flu. She is getting the Tamaflu medicine and has to stay home until Monday (which is a school holiday so she will not have to go to work that day either. Poor kid--she described herself as a walking burrito--all wrapped up in her blankets. The flu test didn't even take the whole time to come back positive.

Yes it is snowing - has snowed all night or most of and continues lightly now - it does not seem too bad, people are driving slowly for the most part, some speedsters though who just have to go fast !

Here's Gene's car - its in front of the living room window so I did not have to go out to get the shot hahahaha

Terri, what surprising and wonderful news, a new grand baby on the way - I hope you are not too disappointed if they do not get married, grown kids make their own way in life, no matter how much guidance they have been given - congrats to the graduates as well. Don't forget to put your calendars up where you need them ! I am on my second coffee and almost ready for the last - I only do 3 a day ...

Dianne, enjoy your visit with Bob and also with the girls this afternoon -its crazy weather here, with several ferry cancellations due to high wind, there is no wind now, but it is snowing some what and its colder then normal - Gene will be driving in that all day, he was a bit concerned - but he will manage, mostly he needs to keep those dumbo ears covered, I told him if he does not he gonna look funny without ears .. lol he came home with soaking wet feet as there was rain most of the day and he was cold so took a hot bath, then I had the oven on and opened it and he wanted to stand right there and let the heat warm him up, he was still cold. Today he is wearing heavier foot wear !

Cathy, that's a shame about Jerimiah, I hope eventually he realises that's not a good thing to play with and I hope those hands are scrubbed especially the nails !! I hope everything is ok with your new dryer and that Howard can figure it out, if not you get to show him when you get home. That would be nice if you could have a day with Reaghan, I know I like days with Charise, but now that she is an adult, its different, but still doable ...

Anne, hope your dil is doing ok, and is adjusting to the pain, unfortuanetly pain is sometimes part of the healing process - When Laurel broke her wrist, she said it was still painful even after they set it and at one point had a melt down over it, she felt the cast was too tight so when she went to the hospital they cut it open a bit for some relief as her hand was swelling. I hope dil is following directions, and keeping note of the pain and level of pain too. I am sure she will be happy to have you there, so I hope it all works out ok !

Betsy, I sure hope that your sore throat was just a dry air issue and not a cold coming - I find sometimes when I wake up with a dry sore throat a cup of hot drink - usually coffee - helps and its no longer sore. My cold is almost gone, still some coughing especially at night but not so much during the day.

Well I did laundry, the cat is off my bed and I need to go make my bed - Amigo wants food, he has to wait lol its too early ....

Good morning~

I've got my coffee half gone and am ready to get moving.

I never pay attention to National anything Days, but this one might actually see some progress from me. I sure hope so~

Have a wonderful day, friends.

Morning! I have been to the Y for the pool class--good workout! And I have my coffee and should get over to the home to see Bob this AM cause this PM won't work but....taking a few minutes for me.

Terri--glad you got to visit some friends. We had the funeral and did go back to the house to see the widow and visit a bit with the kids. I need to get over to see her more.... We have some solar lights that used to be out front just stick into the back deck posts--gives us a little light out there. And I bought some for my sister for Christmas--solar lights are not expensive any more. DD1 was just visiting Mendocino and running for her regular training/exercise.

Cathy--hubby has been at the computer desk--my stiff is all in a basket on the side! So he has it "clean". I guess your kids really DO need their own classroom. I have worked with some developmentally challenged kids but not sure I would appreciate Jeremiah.

Betsy--good game last night! Nail biter!! If they get to the Super Bowl, then we will have to watch it--and I'll take my Packer gear along! We were skiing when the Broncos lost so bad--I felt sorry for the folks in CO but I had rooted for the Broncos. It is just a game but does get people to agree/disagree about something besides politics.

Anne--you will be a blessing to your son and his wife. You are a blessing to all of us!!

Lindie--hope all is well. I want to make more meditation time.....we'll see!

Off to get stuff done so I can visit Bob.

Anne, she now has additional pain from where they attached screws/pins/plates and the incision so no wonder she is in more pain. But I think it will subside soon---if not, they should be calling the doctor and making sure there is no infection involved causing more pain. Hope your being there for even that amount of time will help her get past this pain part and she won't have to try to do stuff because she will know it is being done. Hope you get lots done before you leave but don't wear yourself out. Wind must have been strong to take down some fencing.
Dianne, enjoy the girls. I texted to see if we would have Reagann on the 2 Mondays we have off this month but Andy is off both of them----but I might contact him to see if we can have her for a few hours one of them. Hope you get to the home, too.
Terri, sounds like a very nice weekend of visiting. You are right, we often put off taking time to visit with our older friends and family until it is too late. I sure hope you and Steve will take the time this week to go visit as well as go to the funeral. Life sure does come up on you. Too bad you missed that dinner with Shelby---congrats to her in finishing the course---hope things go the way they should with the baby, too.
We saw the movie Overcomer at church last night---it was so good---and I cried a lot! ---good thing I sat where I knew we had a tissue box in the sanctuary. Nice variety of stuff for dinner, too. We all had dessert after the movie.
HOpefully the dryer delivery this morning will be with no issues but not sure if Dh will be able to figure out how to use it right away----LOL---so I hope I will be doing some laundry when I get home.
On Jeremiah, he digs out his poop to play with it---just one of his quirks---does it when he is upset or bored---so sure he scratched it badly as I don't think Mom keeps a check on his nails, either. You just never know with these kids. I hope he is better but also want him all healed up before he returns, too.
The weather was just lovely this weekend but a bit cooler this week---only in the 50's---which I know for Betsy would be really nice. I did get the 2 bins finished yesterday and Dh found a bin that at least I can use for the Christmas Santa villages and then I will be done with all the putting away.---yippee!
Oh, and Terri, it is National Clean off your Desk day! LOL

We missed a dinner with our gd, Shelby on Friday evening to celebrate her graduation from a program to earn her CNA. She, her bf and his cousin all took the course and will now work for the care facility who sponsored the course. All because we didn't realize that it was Friday and also because we didn't have anyone to look after Rosie. We also missed the announcement that she's pregnant--so we'll be great grandparents again sometime this year. I didn't ask her about the due date, so am not sure when. I don't think this was part of their plan, but also don't think they are unhappy about it. I expect (and hope) that we'll be planning a wedding before we plan a baby shower, but no one asked me, so I'll keep that to myself.

Our weekend went too fast but we had a marvelous time. The ranch family and friends went to the same concert so we had a fun dinner with all of them prior to the event; then spent the night at Mom's and stayed up too late visiting; then more visiting in the morning until we had to rush to pack and throw things into the car and head out to church where our former pastor serves; heard a great message and had a too-short visit with them and ALL three of their married kids & spouses and got to see their new grandchildren (twins born in November); then off to meet other long-time friends for lunch at their house before coming home. We packed a lot into 2 days and I wish we had more time with all of them or that we made it happen more often. It made me think of some of Betsy's weekends, to tell you the truth!

So now we're home and back to our projects. Steve will go to the coast tomorrow to pick up supplies for a project at the ranch that needs attention soon and to get the wood screws he needs to finish securing the steps on the porch. Our friend in Redding showed him some solar lights that can be affixed to the top of a post and now we'll look into those for the front steps. We have those log posts that will need to have the tops covered to protect them from water damage and it would be great to have lights on them. Solar lights might be just the thing. I will stay home tomorrow and get the laundry done and try to finish this desk project. It will be a huge relief to bring some order to this chaos.

Dianne, was DD1 running this weekend? The temps in Redding were warmer than at home and we were surprised about that. We might actually get some snow this week if the forecast is correct.

My aunt (Dad's sister) passed away on New Year's Eve and her service will be on Thursday. We're trying to decide whether to make a quick trip for the funeral and fellowship with the family or extend our trip and stay in the canyon for a few days. It wouldn't hurt to spend some time down there--not to work, but just to check on things and visit some friends and family. Steve's aunt is nearly 80 and my dad is 85 in March so I'm thinking that we should take the time for some visiting while we are away from our projects if we can. As I said at the beginning of this post, we always say we need to do it more often but don't take the time. So I'm thinking that we should.

I know I haven't addressed all the posts, but it's late so I'm going to go ahead and post this. I'll try to check back tomorrow but only AFTER I get some work done!

Hi, all. Thanks for any and all prayers for my dad--I am hoping they will do whatever to give me the ability to talk to the doctors but...we'll see. He is feeling fine--yelling about the poor calls being made in the Houston/Kansas City game--I won't talk to him during the Packer game!

Anne--that will be a whirlwind trip. God speed and may the pain go away quickly.

The wake and funeral were good--saw some people I haven't seen in 20+ years. And he passed in December so the raw grief is gone--although things will "hit" her now since the kids will all be heading home. I was surprised--no grand kids or great grands were at the wake, funeral or house afterward. Are parents not exposing their kids to death at all? I lost my baby sister at 7 and then 2 grandparents at 9 and a third at 10 but I had also gone to the wakes for older people in our church, etc--I knew how to behave and what to expect even as a child. Oh, well.

Cathy--we had at least 68 today--sure odd to go out in January with no coat or even sweater! Sorry your dryer was dented--hope this next one is okay. Would you consider a big discount instead? Just a thought.

Betsy--I hope your throat just needed some rest. Be quiet watching the Packer game. My DD2 isn't feeling well--sore throat, cough and some fever yesterday. I did suggest she stay home tomorrow but she is my "work ethic" child. (DD1 would stay home!)

Terri--I hope the concert was great fun. And your weekend "away" was a good one! DD1 was in Mendocino for the weekend--she sent some photos from her runs.

Lindie--I hope your weather settles. We had lots of winds and many folks were without power here today--at least it was warm!

I get the girls tomorrow and Tuesday--and will likely go to the home in the AM on both days due to time with the girls. I have a massage on Wednesday--DH had a 2 hour massage on Friday--mine will just be 90 minutes.

Hi again!
I broke my chats into 2 so that I didn't lose my quick responses to everyone, lol!
I am leaving on Wednesday, 1/15, and returning on Sunday, 1/26. It will be a bit of a whirlwind! What else is new! Tom said his wife is in a lot of pain and is upset that it is so painful. He thinks she thought some of the pain would subside faster with the surgery.
I have tried to get a lot of stuff done at both jobs. I will being copies of my paperwork with me with the intention of trying to get a new workbook of spreadsheets created or if it is too crazy there to just do what I've been doing by using the current workbook.
J is working on some fencing that has come down...need to go assist.

Have a good night!

Hi all!
Got through all the chats, but probably will miss things in my responses.

Terri, sorry that you got your days messed up. Hope you were able to reschedule the appointment without too much time lag and that it didn't cost you anything because of missing it. I hope Steve finishes up those stairs soon! Do you think he will be called back to work again soon? It would be nice if you can get the house on the market soon! How was the concert?

Lindie, glad you are on the mend! I have no idea what size my kids and grandkids are at this point, so I would be useless in picking up things for them right now. I do need to get that info. Glad the gf has access to some money. Does your nephew's Mom have a reason for not liking the gf? Good to stay out of it!

Dianne, I'm sorry about your Dad having issues. He is definitely in my prayers! (Mom and you, too!) I sure hope you can get some good information from them or your brother, if he knows yet! Is it possible for them to let the doctor's office know it is okay to talk with you? Sorry you didn't have the "grands" that day, but it sounds like you got a lot done instead!

Betsy, I hope your throat feels better and that you were talking too much, lol! How are DH's eyes doing? Is K doing okay with her roommate? Is there any way she can get out of the lease? Glad Tim's life celebration was a good memorial!

Cathy, yuck! Why does Jeremiah have the tear...constipation, is there a possible predatory issue going on, or is he touching where he shouldn't except to clean? I sure hope it is not the 2nd one! I wonder if he didn't really understand the doctor's comment and reworded it completely wrong! Sounds like you are almost done packing your Christmas stuff. It is so nice that Michael comes by to bring things up and down for you! Hope the neighbors weren't too noisy too long or that closing up the house blocked out their noise!

Mare, I think you made the right choice. Hopefully your son will make some good connections and get on the track to a better life! How is your DH doing?

Anne

Dianne, sorry to hear about your Dad's issue and you not being close enough to go with them to visits. I find when something serious is going on with Dh, I have to take off and go because he either doesn't remember things, doesn't ask things, or doesn't tell them things he should. Does your mom go in with him? wonder if it was the deep vein test---they did that on Dh when his ankle was such a mess in August. I will be praying for him. How did the wake go? Are you going to the funeral too? They have spent some big bucks with a funeral on a weekend. It was really warm here---had the front door open until 7 and could have left it open a bit more but the lousy next door neighbors were outside making too much noise to leave it open.
Terri, hope you all had a great time and enjoy your little weekend getaway. Hope you pick up a calendar while out----LOL but even with working I am not sure of the date anymore since we don't do a daily written thing unless she is out---then I have them do that to start out.
Lindie, sorry about the wind storm. I am not surprised about those royals---I knew she would be trouble---much more than Dianne ever was when married to Charles. Glad your cough is not as bad.
I did get most of the vilages put away. Just not the Santa villages---think we might still have a bin downstairs for them. I had 6 of them done when Michael stopped by. He took them down and brought up the rest of them---except maybe that one. I got the line dry items washed in the morning, cleaned the bathroom, cleaned one kitchen counter all the way, packed up bins the rest of the day. Even had the back door screen open for the day and kept going outside when I could because it was so nice. They called and delayed the dryer so Dh went ahead and cooked burgers on the grill---they were so good. Once the dryer got here, they discovered it was badly dented so I had to decline it---called the store right away---boy, was that a pain as no one wanted to answer the darn phone. Thankfully they have another one and it will be delivered on Monday now. They did take the old dryer so at least I could really get in there and clean that area up good. Dh had used the shop vac on it while they were going to get the new one but I took a broom and got some cobwebs and some more dust loosened up later on and vacuumed up. I sure hope this one is not damaged. They don't want to deal with me if it is----LOL
I think it will be almost as warm today but rain in the forecast. We are having dinner and a movie night at church tonight so I don't have to cook today either.

BRRRRR its getting cold out !! The wind storm has caused cancellations of ferries and power outages, but not here !! The chest cold is getting better, still some coughing but not rib aching now !!

Terri, sorry you missed that appointment, have you thought of using reminder on your phone or computer, course they would have to be on in order to do that. I have not hung a calandar in a couple of years now, I just use my phone for my appointments - but my phone(s) are on most of the time anyway ! Hope you enjoyed dinner with family, were you going to the concert as well ?

Dianne prayers for your dad for a good diagnosis, recover, and communication to you so you can be in the loop and not out, I am pretty sure you feel a tad helpless at being so far away, would you fly there if necessary ? Take your time with your bible study, and meditation will come, it took me some time to learn that, but one thing I try to do, is picture myself as a spectator to see all these wonderful accounts come to life - for example, we just did Gen 1-3 at our meetings, I imagined being there watching creation - I look forward to Noah and imaging myself there, watching the construction of the ark as well as other events. I am a visual person - so visualizing helps me a lot ! I hope the funeral was not too difficult for you to attend - it can be so hard at times.

Cathy did you get your village stuff done, and put away ? Are you enjoying those warmer temps ? I am pretty sure Charise is enjoying them. Wonder how she will handle Montreal if she goes there, Montreal can be brutally hot and cold in summer/winter ! Not mild at all like here. Did the new dryer come, is it going to work out ok, did you get extra warrenty on it ?

Anne, Betsy, Mare, I sure hope all of you are having a good weekend, or as good as you can have. Yes I will be staying in and staying warm, try not to venture out too much have most of what we need and can walk inside ...

Need to figure out dinner, have a good one all !!

That's the problem, Dianne-- I don't have my 2020 calendar yet!

We're out the door to Redding. Dinner with kids, concert, spending the night at Mom's, church tomorrow at our former pastor's church, then home.

See ya later! emoticon

Morning. I have been to the gym for my step class--still need to go shower. Then we have wake for adopted grandpa--he died before Christmas but they had so much going on with family and doctors that things were postponed to now. Funeral is tomorrow afternoon at our old church.

Terri--I do make it a point every day to notice what day it is--cause we have missed things, too. Hope all works out okay and the concert is a good one. Sounds like you are both making slow but steady progress.

Cathy--you are a bit warmer down there--we are in the low 60s. I have had windows open--the fresher air is nice! Wow to bathing the kids at school--and doing laundry.

Lindie--yes, I saw that the stepped-back-from-active royals are at Vancouver Island. It can't be an easy life--all that attention. OH, well. My reading is going okay but the meditating on it is not--I hope to slow down enough to really read and think about it but not happening yet.

Anne, Betsy, Mare--hi!

I did get word that my dad is doctoring--he may have cancer but the doctor said that it likely wouldn't kill him. He is more concerned about an ankle that is very swollen and they can't tell why. So prayers for my dad--Don, will be 86 later this month--would be appreciated. Trying to get info from my folks is NOT easy--they don't pay attention to what was the name of the test, etc so figuring that out took some LOUD talking -- I was trying to get a word in edgewise between the 2 of them. Not sure they mentioned anything to my brother who was visiting--he has medical training but his own issues so they likely didn't share anything with him. Sigh--I am too far away.....

Well--need to get ready to go to funeral home soon.

Anne, glad to hear that the surgery went well for her. Guessing Tom is taking care of things until you get there.
Betsy, what gets me is that you are not that rural, but guessing you are trying to avoid the cable TV/internet charges. We could go with another option but I have not heard anything good about the other options so I will stick with the cable service. They do have you over a barrel in most locations. My mom had a lot of internet issues which is why my sister did not want to remain at the house---which I understood because the condition of the house wasn't that good either. My sister is very addicted to computer stuff. Hope you either find those checks or that they write you a new one and then you can just return or shred the old one when you do find it. Hope the services are not too sad. I am glad that we had one for my mom even though she said she didn't want one---my sister and I needed it.
Dianne, bummer that you didn't have time with the little ones but at least you got more done. Guessing you will be leaving in a couple of weeks for skiing. Know you are looking forward to that. What will happen to the choir if the choir director gives it up? What exercise did you do yesterday?
Lindie, glad you are feeling better. Hope the lack of desire for chips stays away if that is what you want. Our weather is going to be much warmer than normal for at least a week, then they say it will really feel like winter next weekend.
Terri, yikes---that is the issue when you are retired---I often wonder what day it is when I have my long summer break, esp. when normal things don't occur---like being sick on a Sunday then wondering what day it is after I didn't go. Bad to miss an appointment. Hope you all called and apologized----some places charge now for a missed appointment but don't see how they can do that if they didn't provide a service or a reminder call. All our doctors call us to remind us of appointments which has been very useful with the number of ones Dh has. Sounds like you have gotten a lot accomplished. Maybe you should set up a calendar downstairs and every morning mark off the day before to help you remember the day. Good thing you did not miss that concert!
No, Dalton is the one not potty trained---Jeremiah is the one with multi-personality disorder---and his mom kept him home yesterday so we only had 2 kids. And we made Kalaysia take a bath----the bathtub was so dirty after she got out---so sad that her mom does not take care of her better as she is a sweet kid. Honestly, you learn a lot of how parents don't do their jobs by working with our challenged kids. We even washed her clothes after she took them off---we had other clothes for her to put on. But I think I will be looking for some underwear to keep on hand for the next time. I did tell her to get her mom to redo her hair---all these pieces coming out of her braids. We didn't make her wash her hair----that is something mom will have to do.
It was a very easy and laid back day with just the 2----I didn't have to fuss or yell at anyone with no Dalton. Made a lot of copies for the kids to do. Finished a book I had started on my lunch breaks. Ran a few errands in the building to get in some steps. Helped Dh a bit when I got home as it was so warm outside you didn't need a jacket. Now all the outside stuff is in the new shed and he can figure out how to use what he bought the other day and build his little workbench he wants in there.
Today might hit 70 ---but I do want to do more village stuff ---got to be here to get Dh to bring up bins for me---asked him to do that first thing yesterday but he seems to forget that kind of stuff. New dryer is supposed to be here sometime between 12 and 4 and they will call half an hour before they arrive---hope it arrives sooner than later for okay just to get it delivered and set up today. I think I am going to sort my clothes--have quite a few things that have to be hung to dry--some pants and a couple of sweaters---I think they will be washed this morning and put out to dry. Once the new dryer is up working, we will start doing other clothes.
Hope everyone has a nice Saturday!

I don't even want to tell you how our day has gone--it's embarrassing!

This whole week has been a blur and neither of us realized that today was Friday. I didn't get on here this morning to see Cathy's TGIF so we went all day thinking it was Thursday! He missed his eye appointment on the coast (worked on the steps until the rain drove him inside) and I puttered around in the house.

I literally emptied my computer desk and took a damp cloth to everything to get the dust off. It's shameful how much dust was covering everything and I know my PC needs to be vacuumed out or something. I still haven't put anything back and won't until I got through it all and make up some file folders for what I want to keep. Then I'll dispose of the rest, I guess.

Steve got all the boards cut for the stairs and would have finished, had he not run out of screws. He went down to the hardware store in town, but they were out of those big ones. He said, "We'll have to go to the doctor early tomorrow so I can pick up more of those big wood screws" (still thinking today was Thursday). At about 4:00, I got a msg from Sarah, asking if we were having dinner with my mom tomorrow night before the concert. (Mary Beth got Steve tickets to see Willie Nelson in concert in Redding on Saturday) I thought to myself, "tomorrow isn't the concert..." and then I looked at my phone to check the date. He checked his phone and started to panic because he thought we were missing the concert. It took us both a while to get over the shock of losing an entire day, missing his appointment, and not going to Redding today as we had planned.

It's nice to be retired, but it doesn't do me any good to make appointments if I don't know what day TODAY is! We knew he had an appointment on Friday, the 10th.... Gee Whiz~

Steve is going to do a little more rock work to finish out the edges of the bottom 2 steps, which are stone, but will do that a little later. All the wood stairs are there and look great to me. The last part will be figuring out the hand rails and mounting them. I'll get more pictures after the weekend.

It's been quite cold for our area, but not freezing so I won't whine about it. Our neighbor's dd has been coming over to clean out her house and go through her mother's things. She's an only child, so no siblings to divide things with or to help. Fortunately, her mother lived simply and wasn't a pack rat at all. We've offered our help and she says she'll ask if she needs anything, but hasn't yet.

I've been doing some actual cleaning this week and not just uncluttering. I did all three bathrooms yesterday and washed all the rugs. I hand-washed a small lace table cover that I had under the Nativity set and have it drying on my wooden drying rack, purged a cupboard in the upstairs bathroom of lots of old hair products from the grandteen girls (still have more to do up there), and put the gift bags and tissue away for later. Do any of you reuse things like that? I actually ironed the tissue paper and rolled it up. It looks like new. I also cut up some of the Christmas cards to use for gift tags next year. We did that last year when I cleaned out the rolltop desk and got rid of that huge pile of old cards and I felt pretty good about finding one more use for them. I still have all the contents of this (computer) desk stacked on a dresser and will try to sort, organize, purge and file all of that stuff tomorrow before we leave for Redding.

I also cleaned some in my laundry room and made Steve take a plastic bowl full of things I've taken out of his pockets over the years (yes, YEARS) and do something with them. He said to throw them away but I told HIM to throw them away if they were junk. They weren't junk--he just didn't want to find places for them. There were screws, nails, drill bits, wire nuts, wing nuts, washers, drip irrigation parts & pieces--all kinds of "guy stuff" that I've found in his pockets--and he just needs to put them away in his "man space" and not in mine. So, I also got that messy, catch-all window cleaned off and it already feels better in there. I still have tons more to do, but made some progress and it's cleaner. Not really clean, but cleaner.

I was going to start a burn pile and get rid of the broken-down boxes from Christmas and the tree, but never got outside. It will wait. We're supposed to get some significant rain next week, so there won't be any restrictions on burning for a while. Steve is still pushing himself (without my reminding him) to get this project finished before he gets called back to work. Once the stairs are finished and he has the basement closed in, we can call the realtor back and see if we're ready to put the house on the market. Meanwhile, I hope to continue my cleaning/purging binge in anticipation of selling the house. I can't show a dirty house and I sure don't want to have to do all of this sorting and organizing in a hurry. I would certainly lose things!

Lindie, it was good of you to buy those pants for Gene when you found his size. I will do that, too. Especially if I come across a sale. The ranch boys are shaped like that. Long, skinny legs and torso and a butt that wouldn't fill a teacup. Well, that's Ben and Blaine. Rylan is a little meatier than his brothers, but it's hard to find jeans to fit those boys. I made Ben a pair of jeans two years ago, when they stayed with us in the canyon and he loved them. Actually, I made two pairs because the first one was too small for him, so I made a 2nd pair and gave the first ones to Ry. They were a little big on him, but he's been wearing them for a year. He may have outgrown them by now and be getting the 2nd pair from Ben. Now he wants me to make him some bibbies--in my spare time!

Cathy, that's just gross! I hope there aren't any more incidents like that one with Jeremiah again. Is he the one that isn't bathroom trained? I'm glad the shots helped and that you're feeling so much better. What is in the shot and how long do they last? Can you go on getting them indefinitely or is there a time limit? If so, then what will you do? I think you asked if I was surprised that Jenny & SIL slipped away for their anniversary and the answer is, Yes. I was pleasantly surprised because it's hard for them to get away. Lily is 17 and Tim is 16 but neither of the have a driver's license so Mary and Joseph stayed with them for the weekend. That's why they were all together when we went over for church.

It's late and I know there were more questions I wanted to answer, but I have to stop for now and get to bed. It's past midnight and is now officially SATURDAY. We missed Friday altogether!

It's a rainy, snowy, windy, cold day today and it is to get colder next week - well cold for southern BC anyway - The cold in my chest is almost gone, and no sign of an upset stomach today but I had yogurt for breakfast and not eggs. I need to get egg whites, I am out - looks like I am going out later to get that and maybe some mushrooms or green peppers to go with the stewing beef I am cooking up later, not really wanting to do a stew ...

Dianne, how is the bible reading going, do you take time to meditate on what you have read ? I often will read a scripture and want to know more about it after the reading so will write it down then study that scripture a bit more, but I have a study bible that provides references so I can do that. Do you have a concordance to help you ? Wonder if BC is being promoted more now that Meghan and Prince Harry are returning to Vancouver Island ... well you have seen Vancouver, but there is a whole lot you may not have had time to see.... what did you get done today ?

Mare hope all is well with you and you are getting goals met - be that selling the property, riding the horse or just spending time with the animals, have you thought about what your next move out of the property will be ?

Betsy, the weather is getting colder - cold enough now that my place is no longer like a sweat shop but the temps are now nice in here and can close a couple of windows. Because I leave the windows open , and there are dump trucks of dirt going past every day almost, the dust gathers and gathers ... I am sure you will find those cheques when you least expect it. Also they could just write a replacement cheque, but who else paid by cheque that week ?

Anne good to hear the surgery went well and I hope you have a good time while you are there, although it won't be vacation like - but you know you want to help. Can you do the gas station stuff long distance, like from your computer if the boss sends you the information ?

Cathy, oh my, what kind of doctor says that to a child ? Glad you are walking better - my doctor told me shots in my knees would not help, they are just warn out and I am not wanting to have knee replacement surgery at this time ... Did you get a new dryer, will you get extended warrenty for it ? Almost seems like the thing to do these days, they are not built to last anymore !

Terri, catch up when you can, no doubt you have lots to do, is Steve working on the steps some more, or has he been called away to work?

Not sure what I want for lunch - maybe just some toast - not really in the mood for anything, even have lost my taste for chips, thought that would never leave !!

Morning! I ended up not babysitting yesterday--Dad got out of his meeting early and picked them up after letting me know. I got some cleaning done--I am trying to keep up with it more. Also did some laundry. I went to a Step class at 7 PM--usually have choir then so can't but no choir till the 23rd and we won't make it that night since we leave for skiing on the 24th. Tomorrow is wake and Sunday is funeral for local adopted grandfather--he died before Christmas.

Mare--you are doing the right things--your stress going away tells you that. You did the best you could do and now HE has to step up in his own life.

Betsy--my brother drove back to WY yesterday from WI--said I 90-94 was terrible around Sparta but once they left WI, roads were okay. Hope things keep moving forward for you. The lack of options for internet in rural areas SHOULD be a bigger deal but with so many focused on getting more $$, no one is looking to spend any money just to help.

Cathy--well, at least she came in to work, even if she can't talk! Gotta love it! I hope the mother gets the young man some help. Some people get kids and can't deal--others want kids and can't have. I sometimes use a magazine when doing the laptop on the couch--that is enough for the remote mouse.

Lindie--nice of you to get pants for Gene. I had cousins like that--not sure any of them are still 29/30! They have gotten more of a paunch! I saw an article listing Vancouver as a good place to vacation if you like "green"--good buses, good places to walk/run, zero waste restaurants, etc.

Anne--glad the surgery went well. I am still waiting to hear about a friend's heart surgery. Your grands will certainly benefit from more time with you--even if it means it is a long time between the next visits.

Terri--I am sure you are busy--you ALWAYS are! LOL

Later!! Need to do some exercise!

Anne, glad to hear the surgery for your DIL went well.

Mare, emoticon , it is so difficult to use tough love with our children but your stress melting away means you made the right decision.

Cathy, we have a permanent internet problem and some days it is worse than others. We are waiting one year to see if AT&T brings fiber optics out here and if they don't, we are switching carriers. It will be a pain switching all of our addresses but in the end it will be worth it. There is only one other option for us and they know it and abuse it with inflating prices so we are crossing our fingers for keeping what we have. A rectal tear can require surgery, how awful that this mother appears to have no control over her son. Also, how awful is the insurance system we have? We haven't started putting our Christmas decorations away but plan to do it on Sunday. Tonight there is a wake for a Pearl Harbor veteran that DH knows and tomorrow is Tim's celebration of life. Both daughters will attend with us tomorrow. What a great restaurant coupon at $10 off. It's funny that DH brought home your fries.

Dianne, as I was getting ready this morning I was wondering if/when you were going skiing and then laughed when I read you were getting ready for just that. we did so much shuffling of stuff around here for bathroom renovations and decorating that it may take a while for the checks to appear but they will. Since i was sick and others were in charge, that also complicates things.

Lindie, are you feeling better? have you been having unseasonably warm weather as well. It is 25 right now so that is closer to normal for January but still not quite right. We had freezing rain yesterday and that should have been snow.

Terri, you are doing much better than I am at staying caught up ( as is everyone else.) Is your sewing area all put back together after the frenzy of Christmas? What is your timeline like for moving to the ranch?

I need to get the heat on downstairs before anybody arrives. Have a fabulous Friday!

Betsy
