Anne, I like Big Lots but not so much Ollie's but would find that place interesting. Glad you got time to relax a bit and catch up on some of the DVR stuff. We stopped watching NCIS this year---it's just not the same without Abby but have heard that Zeva returned from the dead---really, that is crazy! Did you find that paper?
Dianne, good idea for you to stay in when it storms---hope it is not so bad that your dd3 can't get a few runs in that day.. Glad the meeting had some good info for you but don't you use yours every year with the skiing? Or are you thinking about the future? Hope no more issues with sleeping. Was it your hip or just being too tired?
Betsy, glad you enjoyed the salt spa. But I guess I am like the rest--what is actually involved in that---are you in a room with a bunch of the salt lights? What a bargain you got for the spa day! Since you all liked it, it would be a great idea to buy more next year. Did you ever find that check? The teacher has been working on her taxes and said that she had spent $8000 on day care and that is not a full year of it. Of course, it cost her more as he is a baby---just turned one the other week. Glad your dh's eye sight has improved but how long will this last? The doctor will probably want to go ahead and take care of the problem. Too funny that he is happy that he won't have to clean up after that baby shower.
Lindie, can you post a picture of the actual pendant? Not something I would want to try---afraid of fire in that manner---I only like it in a fireplace or chiminea---LOL Would you rather it be a desk weight or as a pendant? You are right, no need of arguing with your sister---it will just make her decide to do it to be contrary as that is her normal behavior. If she buys one, get her a compost potty to put in there---LOL Glad you found some jeans. Yes, I think I know how to take a picture but not sure how to send one to Anne yet---LOL I might try a couple of pictures as practice once I figure that out. Right now I would like to figure out how to make the time appear in the center large enough for me to read when I turn it on---something else I miss from my old phone.
Terri, glad Steve is back home and that the tree has been taken care of and gave you a nice pile of wood for burning when there. Those fruit trees that you grafted and trimmed will give a nice smell if there were any you could burn. Are they heating that barn with a wood stove? Hope Steve can finish up those jobs and that you can get organized for a big yard sale. That is a big job to downsize what you have in that big house to the size of where you will move to. Plus don't you need to do work on that place so that you can move in there?
I pretty much took a chill day. Pride and Prejudice was on TV so I watched that all afternoon here in the dining room. Dh's church sold subs yesterday as a fund raiser for kids to go on a mission trip---so that was our main meal yesterday and I have half for my lunch today. Back to work today.

Sorry I've been AWOL lately. Steve got home yesterday and we've just been busy.

Anne, Yikes to the cold house, but Hallelujah for the quick fix on the furnace. When we went to the canyon for my aunt's funeral, it took 2 days to get the house warm and, as Cathy said, the furniture took longer to warm up. It seems as though your paperwork at the station has gone smoothly since you returned, and that's good. We don't watch football, so won't get caught up in that today. You and I seem to have similar tastes in TV shows. I could binge watch both of those series with you--I'll bring the popcorn! Hope you can find the registration. I still need to get my Real ID, but no pressure yet.

Dianne, I'm still reading the posts I've missed and responding as I go, but I hope your hip isn't giving you any problems while you're on vacation. Glad DD3 made it ok.

Betsy, that would be wonderful if DH didn't need to have the surgery; however, if he does still need it, I hope nothing interferes with it this time. I'm wondering what kind of salt treatment affected DD1's breathing and DD2's stomach knot? I love getting a good massage, but have never had a spa treatment. It sounds scrumptious!

The slide that closed the road was a small one and was cleaned up quickly. I think they had the highway open to one-way traffic before nightfall and probably kept flaggers out there overnight. It was thoroughly cleaned up the next day (Thursday) and the highway is open again. There is still another giant slide that is being "babysat" all winter. I suspect that it will be worked on all summer (not by Steve's crew) and hopefully finished! It's been a mess for more than a year already.

Steve said that the tree job went very well and the neighbor came over and helped him haul the brush to a burn pile and Steve burned it that day. They made firewood out of the rest and got it moved over to the wood pile in a heap where it can dry this summer. He went to visit his aunt on Friday, had dinner with the neighbors Friday night and came home on Saturday. I had sent down a box of my canned goods for the neighbors and he said they really enjoyed them. She likes my pickles and pickled peppers. He also took a jar of salsa for her to try. She's Mexican-American and likes that cuisine.

No call for Steve to drive truck yet. We heard from another employee that the state has shut them down for the time being. They want to wait for the inspector to check out the big cracks at the top before they allow anyone under it because when it comes down, it will be huge they say. They've even closed the road entirely for the time being. People who live on the other side are having to drive out the other direction to get to civilization and it's a very LONG way. Tomorrow, he has to replace the water pump in his truck because it failed just as he was getting home yesterday--PTL! I'm not sure what else we might get into tomorrow. It depends on the weather and how long it takes him to fix his truck. We have plenty to keep us busy here at home and I'd like to see him finishing the steps, if possible. He has a few more stones to set and mortar to complete the second bottom step. It had been raining before he went to the canyon, so he stopped and covered it with a tarp. I need to start working on the taxes and have bills to pay, checkbooks to reconcile and the ledger to update. Plenty to keep us busy here.

After we pruned our little orchard here at the log house, I asked DS1 about grafting some of the prunings onto some of the old trees out at the ranch. He said that now is the time and he'd be happy to help this weekend if we wanted to. So we all went out to the ranch today and cleaned up 3 seriously neglected trees--a plum and 2 apples. The plum and one apple are "volunteer" trees that were allowed to grow willy-nilly and they were all intertwined , with several branches that had been broken from being heavy with fruit. They were both so tall that we couldn't reach the highest fruit even with our tallest fruit ladder, so we topped them all and pruned all the dead wood out and lots of poorly-developed branches. Then we grafted pluots and burgundy plums on the plum tree (about a dozen small grafts) and then some Arkansas Black apples onto the volunteer apple tree. The other apple tree is very old and had an original, main limb that was rotten to the core, but still had growth on it. We took that one out as it was useless and too tall. Steve used his power pole saw to top a lot of that tree too, but we were ready to quit for the day, so we'll go back and manicure it later. For now, it's at a reasonable height and still has lots of healthy, fruiting branches on it.

Spring will be here before we know it and the call to be out there, working in the yard and garden is going to be strong. But we are going to push to get the house on the market this spring, so need to focus hard on working here first. I'm thinking about having a yard sale at some point, but then the thought of actually doing is is rather overwhelming...

Lindie, if your sis is the rugged type who likes adventure and outdoor living, she'd probably be okay for a while in her van. But I think that, in time, she'd tire of it and want more space--even if it's just a small space. Like a studio apartment that's just big enough for one person. Maybe living that way for a while will allow her to save up some money toward something like that--IF she's a saver, which I think she probably isn't based on some of the things you've said in the past about having to help her financially. I don't need a ton of room, but I do like to have a solid roof over my head--and I like to own it rather than rent it. I like being able to plant things and watch them grow and know that the next generations will enjoy them after I'm gone.

Okay, I fear I've written another book while trying to catch up. Sorry if it's too long and puts anyone to sleep while reading. Until later~ Goodnight.

Back from the pendant making class - I enjoyed watching but not doing, it was too long for progress and I just did not like that aspect of the class, fortunately one of the teachers came and finished my pendant - now to look for a leather strip to use as a necklas - or it can be used as a paperweight LOL

That is me in my plaid cotton shirt/shirt - yes cotton was required because synthetics will melt onto you and hurt more if that happened, you are working with torches and contantly turning turning turning the tube - the girl across from me was really good at doing her's and my daughter tried to finish her's but could not figure out if she should do it left handed or right handed, eventually left handed kicked in and she almost finished.

Did you know its universal palindrome day ? 02022020 reads the same frontward and backwards and only happens once in like 900 years or so !

If you are a Mary Higgons Clark book fan, she passed away last week, I liked some of her work but did prefer Mauve Binchy instead...

Had dinner with my daughter and sister, and my sister was quiet as a church mouse and said nothing, said she wasn't feeling well ... kept the conversation light and off the topic of living in vans ... yup she will do what she wants ... after torrential down pours yesterday now they say snow ... its cold enough !!!!

Hi all!
Had a quiet late afternoon and evening yesterday after I got out of work. Today we went to Mass, the Dollar Store, Ocean State Job Lot (like Big Lots or Ollie's), Stop & Shop, and then home. After putting the groceries away I spent my afternoon trying to figure out the meal plan for our next Discovering Christ program which starts 2/12. 7 Weeks of meals that I tried to include non-chicken dinners when Fr. L could be there. I really wish he ate chicken! I got it onto a spreadsheet and now I just have to confirm my plans with my main helper and Fr. J. Next I need to get hostesses to set up, serve, and clean up. I intended to speak with my helper last Friday, but I took too long at the gas station and home, so I didn't get to church prior to Mass getting out. I will talk with her tomorrow...hopefully she will have time after Mass! I am currently making a list up of supplies that I will need to have and what I think I'll need weekly. I want to be able to only be there for a limited number of the sessions and am hoping my helper and others can take my place.

Dianne, sorry that you are not sleeping well and that you are sore! Enjoy the hot tub...I'm sure it will be more relaxing than the game! Bummer about the upcoming storm, but hopefully it will drop some nice snow for skiing after it's done. Sounds like DD3 is spending her money wisely, but hope that she won't put her safety in jeopardy if the storm is bad!

Betsy, what is a salt spa? Did you know what to expect and had other things on your mind that you didn't relax as well as you should have? Or were you uptight about what was involved and therefore you didn't unwind in time to get the full relaxation experience? I sure hope your DH is right and that he is healing on his own and not requiring surgery!

Cathy, I have toys from my kids down the basement that I still need to dispose of properly. We have purged many over the years, but have a couple of buckets of My Little Ponies and tons of those McDonald toys, lol! I didn't get rid of them yet because when the grands have been up they play with them...then I toss them back in the buckets and say I need to get rid of these things...the kids make such a mess, lol! I am so old, lol!

Lindie, is Gene checking out his medical issues with a doctor or nutritionist now? Or is he still relying on internet information? It sounds like your sister has made up her mind and needs to go try it out and you and others need to let her go...not an easy task, though! I am not a risk-taker so I would definitely be concerned about her choice. I hope you have good weather this week!

Terri, has Steve been called back to work? Is he still in the canyon? How did the tree removal work out?

Time to figure out our dinner...have a good evening. Enjoy the Super Bowl if you're watching! May they play fair and I hope the half time show and commercials are family friendly!

It is warmer today—Sunday. At noon, we already had 10 runs. We didn’t ski Saturday but did our owner update, found out more about how we can rent out our unit and WE get the $$, went to a great Italian place and had calzones, brought half home for supper, went in hot tub, got our skis again—with DD3 and FINALLY got to go to bed about 11. I never got a chance to touch the computer.

Cathy, Reagann is going to be 11??!! How is that possible! Glad you can help the kids learn to use the calculator—I hate that I can’t do stuff in my head the way I used to—and I really hate that kids NEVER learn to do it in their head.

Anne—I would look in the glove box again—but SLOWLY! I do understand not being able to find something when you KNOW it is supposed to be there.

Betsy, I am glad you had fun with the salt spa—I have thought about trying that. And let’s hope your DH’s eye continues to improve!

Lindie-your sister likely isn’t going to be any happier in the north—sometimes happiness is a choice—and doesn’t sound like she is leaning toward that choice. Sorry about the gun shot. We wake to “booms” as they try to make any snow avalanches happen before anyone gets up there to ski.

Terri—I hope Steve can still get home. I guess he doesn’t dare say no to the work when it is offered? I know you can use the extra $$ to rebuild the cushion. Can the kids get back and forth to school again?

We will likely have the Super Bowl on but I don't think I will watch. I'd rather go soak in the hot tub! I am sore/cold. Didn't sleep well last night. We will ski tomorrow but Tuesday will be a big storm with highs of 17 at best--and wind so I won't go out. And also powder--I am afraid of falling in that. I'll get out on Wednesday. DD3 will go out--spending too much $$ to not ski every day.

Hope everyone is doing okay!

emoticon Its been a roller coaster week, and not just the weather !! I did get to pennington's and bought two pairs of jeans but one pair is lined and soft and the other a bit on the scratchy side, will have to get used to this material ! Happens when you live in yoga/exercise pants for years LOL - I treated my sister to White Spot fish and chips, and bought her a sandwich for her night shift - found also a long sleeve cotton shirt that was recommended for the glass pendant making - reason they suggest cotton is cause the place is messy - its a glass blowing place, so it would be ! Talked to my sister about her living in a van - she was looking at vans and won't be deterred by this, so if that is what she wants to do, she will do it. I think its menopause and she should go see her doctor about hormone imbalances and maybe a bit of escapism going on with her - it all stems from unhappiness and she thinks leaving vancouver will make her happy, maybe it will and maybe it won't ... the van would be used to take most of her belongings up north as she has been job hunting for that area - Fort St John - she's lived there before ... My daughter also told her she was reacting this way due to menopause and she took my daughter home and said she was not going to listen to people who wont' be supportive ... then my daughter called me to talk about it and we will talk more later - we will all have lunch after the glass pendant making class - looking forward to this too !

Gene is moving along about his medical issues - actually we were both awakened at 4:00 this morning from a gun shot - he said it was a riffle and close to the area - I made coffee and did some bible reading .. which I do every morning ...

Cathy, not a bad idea to clean up the toys Reaghan no longer plays with but keep one or two that you might have enjoyed playing with her with - I kept Charise's bunny for ages, but of course its now been long turffed as when she left Winnipeg she left in a hurry, didn't take half her stuff and the person living there with her mom, cleaned out her room and through things out - figured if she wanted them she would ahve packed it up and sent it there ... I have all the art Charise made when she lived with me for a spell in West Vancouver - and the bracelets she's made me over the years ... what are you going to get done today ?

Dianne sounds like you are having a good time skiing ! How's the hip ?

Terri, did Steve make it to the other place ok, did he get called in, there's mud slides happening here too because of all the rain we got - now they say it will snow ... it is cold enough ... What are you up to today ?

Anne, are you finding a way to relax this weekend, now that you have almost caught up on things ?

Betsy sounds like you had a good day with the girls and glad that knott is out of dd2's stomach - stress from the room mate no doubt - live and learn - will she move back home ?

No superbowl plans here either, I 'll be busy with other things lol

Cathy have you figured out your smart phone, you can google and get information that sometimes is easier to understand then phone guides they put with the phone ... or Michael can help too no doubt - it also might help to write down on a sheet of paper the steps to doing certain things. Have you figured out how to take a p icture ?

Ok time to go have a good one all !

I only have a few minutes right now but saw that Cathy was lonely so wanted to cheer her with at least a LITTLE bit. I treated my girls to a salt spa session yesterday and both of them LOVED it and thanked me profusely. DD1 felt she could breathe better and DD2 said it took the knot out of her stomach and thanked me for healing her. I would say that was time and money well spent. It is $45 a session per person but I purchased sessions for $20 each on cyber Monday. The plan is to start a fund so I can buy a large group of them on the next cyber Monday. I liked it and it is a way of forced relaxation for me but that's about it. After the session, DD2 said she would treat us to lunch and that was wonderful, no supper was needed. A friend of ours had shoulder replacement recently so we made a batch of beef barley vegetable soup and some rolls to help them out. Upon delivering that, we learned that Trav's mom ( Trav is grandson to these folks) has been clearing out toys and we left with three boxes for day care! After a rousing game of Scrabble, DD1 went home and we just relaxed with Netflix. This morning we attended 8 AM Mass and had our throats blessed before coming home. We discussed grocery shopping for later because right now I am off to the baby shower of my friend Cheri's daughter. it is a brunch to be held at the lodge at Jordan Park. DH's comment was priceless, " At least I don't have to clean it!" if it were summer, he most definitely would. Speaking of DH, this morning he told me that he feels like his eye is improving because his peripheral vision is back. Tuesday is supposed to be his surgery day but maybe he'll get lucky and won't need it? That would be amazing and a tribute to the phrase, "time heals al wounds." I have to go. Have an amazing Sunday!

Anne, you sound busy but wanting to just relax. Hope you got time to do that later. Hope you find that paper, too---how annoying.!
Quite pleased with what I got done yesterday in the spare room. Now I need to clean the floor in there and vacuum. Still need to go thru one item in there---where I keep Reagann's toys---I think I can get rid of all of that stuff--she will be 11 this year and hasn't touched that stuff in several years. They grow up too quickly!
Guess everyone was busy yesterday---hope everyone enjoyed their day!

Hi all!
Dianne, sorry your hip is bugging you! Glad it isn't impeding your skiing! Is going to be any warmer over the weekend?

Cathy, when are the kids going to be tested? Glad they are cooperating with the calculators. What kind do they use? Yay to a nice dinner and meeting after!

Betsy, saw you had a nice time with the girls last night. I'm sure it was needed after the past few weeks of yuck!

Lindie, Terri, & Mare, hope all is well!

I managed to get my end of month and 1st of month bills paid yesterday. I have a cold and am feeling quite wiped out, so I do not think I will be tackling much more today other than going into work. I left my Camry at the gas station to get an oil change, check for slow leak in a tire, and my inspection sticker. However, I could not find the registration that I need for the sticker. I always keep it in the glove box and it was not there! It will cost $25 to replace it...grrrr! I have checked my file box from last year...saw that I purchased it via online 1/28 and that I got my inspection sticker on 2/15...so I did have the updated registration. Registration lasts 2 years here, so I do not need to register the car again til next February. When I get home I will recheck the Camry for it and if I do not find it, I will get one on Monday when I also go to the registry or AAA for my REAL ID to replace my license...yup, it's that time. I need to make sure my hair looks decent...something that is not happening today, lol! Bedhead just won't quit and I am in no mood to wash and style it!

We need to get some k-cups and a couple of other things at the store, so a trip there will take place after I get home from work. We will go to the 9:00 Mass tomorrow, this way we won't have to hurry our errand(s).

No Superbowl plans here. Glad it is at 6:30 and not 8:30 this weekend...I figure J will be watching. Maybe I will get through all my DVR'd NCIS and Criminal Minds shows, which will clear up some DVR space. Men in Black and Star Trek (the one with Zachary Quinto as Spock) are the movies on there that I want and I will keep them on there, lol!

Heading to work early...lots of data entry to deal with. Have a good Saturday!

Anne, I am very surprised it was fixable but very happy that it could be and that it is in good shape---that is when they used to make things that lasted---LOL Hope you turned it up a bit more when you were home---it needs to warm up the furniture, too.
Dianne, not surprised hip hurts at night---that is often when mine hurts---you might have inflamation in the sac around the hip--a shot would help.
Pretty easy day yesterday---kids did math all day---with calculators---even Dalton did his math using the calculator. We are getting them used to using them as testing will start soon and they must use the calculator for the math portion so we are getting them used to it. I will say that we didn't have to fuss at anyone with them using that tool.
Had a nice dinner at church and a good meeting afterwards.
Nothing planned for today except to work in the spare room and to do laundry.

Just a quick hi--we are heading back out for the afternoon. My wrist is better, my hip hurts in bed but not out skiing. It was 6 this AM--we didn't go out till 10 and it had warmed up. DD3 is at the airport now--10 pm arrival is the best we can hope for.

I read the posts--glad the furnace is fixed, glad the seeds were located--that would make me crazy, too, glad the evaluation day is over, hope new jeans are located! and I hope Betsy feels better! Out we go!

Hi all!
The went as low as 52*F before the furnace was fixed. It took the repairman about 45 minutes to fix it. When I stopped by the house at about noontime, it was 62*F. When I got home from work last night it was up to 70*. That was what I had set it at. However, the house was still cold to me. The repairman did say the furnace was in great condition, especially for its age!
Terri, hope Steve finishes up at the canyon before the call back. It would be nice if he could finish up a couple of the projects, too! Glad you found the seeds.

Cathy, glad everyone was on good behavior yesterday and that it is done and over now! I still do not utilize all the things my smartphone can do. I bet Reagann or Dom will be helpful with figuring things out, lol!
Dianne, hope the temps warmed up for you! Hope DD3 gets there early so you can have time together before bedtime!
Lindie, I hope your sister can figure out what to do instead of living in her car! Rent costs are crazy! I do not know how people afford it!
Betsy, hope everyone is all better!

Anne, oh, no! Were they able to get it fixed or will you need a new one? I am betting they say a new one with it being that old. Hope you got to enjoy a night at a warm home or did you have to go to a hotel? Not an expense you need but things like that never occur when you have the money.
Dianne, boy, that is cold---I wouldn't go out at all! LOL Hope you didn't get too cold. Sure hope you can keep that meeting down to 90 minutes. Sometimes you have to get nasty with them to get away. What I do is get really loud so that others can hear that I am not happy with them---they never have separate rooms so others can hear plainly so that works really well----LOL
Lindie, nothing you are Gene says will have an affect except to say no to helping her pay for the new vehicle---and remind her if it breaks down, she won't have a place to stay when it is in the shop and the chances of her stuff being stolen is greatly enhanced. Hope you found some comfy jeans but I wouldn't want to wear new jeans to that event---they want you in them as they might get ruined---so I would think a good thick old pair of pants would work just as well. They just assume everyone has jeans---like they assume everyone has a smart phone. I am still struggling with the basics on the phone let alone trying anything else. And Howard somehow managed to take off his text icon--he went to CVS yesterday and mentioned it to the clerk----she said she had done that before and showed him how to fix it---so now it is back----but will he remember how? He said he would but I doubt it---I have to show him again how to delete messages.
Terri, bummer that you didn't think to get one last year after you met the deductible. I know we were lucky to be able to get Howard's shoulder surgery done in the same year that we had met the deductible. Sounds like you have been busy. Glad you found the seeds---you sound like me and those curtains. I hope Steve doesn't get called back in before he finishes the railing. Bummer on that slide. Will he even be able to get home like the kids? What do the kids do for a change of clothes? What if they can't get home today?
The lesson went well. The kids were good. And we did absolutely nothing in the afternoon but watch a movie---LOL---but I think we were both burnt out worrying about the visit. And knock on wood, the teacher has been here every day this week!
We have dinner at church tonight with our meetings afterwards. So that is the only plan for the weekend. We will NOT be watching anything to do with the Super Bowl.

I have been up and down from this desk all day and opened the box for this post hours ago, so I could read your posts in another window and type my responses in this one. Now it's time to go to bed and I still haven't done it.

Steve is in the canyon and I forgot to call him this evening, so I don't know how things went today. I didn't even try to call him early as I knew he'd be outside. I'll call him in the morning and chat while I have my coffee.

Steve and I both looked all over this house for my garden seeds that I had saved from last year and could NOT find them anywhere. I knew they had been sitting on the kitchen counter for ages and when I cleaned up the kitchen before Thanksgiving, I moved them. I had a small basket full of assorted seeds and am ready to start some. He looked all through the house and the basement, where some of my gardening tools are; then, I went behind him and looked in every room, closet, the pantry, the laundry room, upstairs in all the rooms and closets--I knew I'd had them and had put them away for later. It was making me crazy! I finally gave up and sat down with my seed catalogs to see which one was going to give me the best deal and variety and started making my list. Late this afternoon, I took some kitchen scraps down to put into the worm bin and decided to poke around the basement again and I found them! It's not so much that they would be so expensive to replace; rather, it was just the idea that I KNEW I had them somewhere and that I'd probably find them as soon as I ordered new ones. Fortunately, I didn't have to. I will still have to buy some tomatoes, chilis and sweet pepper seeds because I planted all I had last year. I'll go down to the hardware store tomorrow and pick them up so I can get them started.

I didn't get any cleaning done, either. I cut out a flannel shirt, but didn't put it together yet. I did a load of laundry and got it put away and emptied the dishwasher and not much else. I checked with our insurance and they will cover 80% of my medical supplies once my $500 deductible has been met. Now I'm kicking myself for not doing this last fall when I first started thinking about it. I had my gallbladder out last February, so had already satisfied my deductible for the year. Now I'm starting over! That was poor planning on my part.

Lindie, you might be able to sell your machine for a reasonable price and help someone else out while you make a little money for yourself. The only thing is that I think they have to be calibrated somehow, according to what the person's sleep study showed. You and your DD are both right. Apnea can be weight-related, but not always. My mother's family all snore and many of them are thin. My throat closes when I go to sleep and the muscles relax. That's why I never got into a deep REM sleep cycle and was always so sleepy during the day. When the power goes out, I have to sleep in the recliner if we don't have the generator hooked up, so that I can be reclined and not laying flat.

I left a message at the sleep clinic to try to find out if they still have my records, but no one called back today. I'll call them again tomorrow and see if I can connect with someone. I need to have the report from my sleep study to give to the company that will sell me a new CPAP and then keep me in supplies. At least I made first contact with all of it, so now it will be easier to follow through.

I don't know if I'll get to that shelf while Steve's gone at this point, but he would definitely notice, Dianne! His side of the basement is beginning to look as bad as it did before we cleaning and reorganized it 2 years ago. He does have all the lumber out of there now, which is nice. He had to keep it out of the rain, but it was impossible to walk in there. It was an obstacle course just to get anything off the shelf or out of the freezer! It won't be much longer now, and he can get the table saw out of there, too. He has the plywood up on the front to close it in, so now we have to use the side door. He'll have to use the table saw to cut the pieces for the railing on the new steps and can't put it out on the carport where it may get wet. We are in the middle of too many projects and need to get some of them buttoned up!

Meanwhile, the highway closed yesterday, about 2 hours after he left. Another slide came down and covered both lanes. The school bus from the high school had to turn around and take the kids back to school and find housing for them because there was no way to get them home. There are some Forest Service roads that go around that area, but they are not maintained and are still deep with snow. I can tell you all about that! Remember when Shelby and I got stuck and had to walk out? So, Ali and Pablo stayed at a friend's house last night.

Now I'm concerned that Steve is going to get called back to work before he gets finished here with everything we've got half-done. Oh well.

Glad you're having a good time, Dianne, and not held back by any hip issues. How's the wrist today? I would enjoy the hot tub, but you can keep the cold plunge! I've done a cool shower after a sauna--well, it was tepid but felt cold after the sauna--and that felt good after being so hot; however, I could never join the eskimo club!

I've rambled enough and am getting sleepy. It's way past my bedtime, so will try to check in earlier tomorrow.

Good morning everyone ! Anne, wow 55F? that's low but at least it is not 0F - guess you have to bundle and put on sweaters and such, but hope your furnace is fixed and you do not need to get a new one at this time. In answer to your question, NO to a 3 bedroom - that would be almost 5000 a month and that is not happening and we do not want to live with her - and yes to the second question, but thinking a job change is in the wind - there are changing occouring at work and she is not adjusting to them well. How did your day go ?

Dianne, you made me chuckle about "live in a van".. .well yes, she could, because unlike me, she can live without certain amenaties and can be resourceful and is rustic in nature - she can go camping, I would need a hotel room LOL Tomorrow she is going to look at a caravan that is about 3000 - no Gene will NOT finance this, and he just wants her to stay in a good apartment and stop this stuff about moving up north, however, she is determined to leave Vancouver as she is "fed up" ... She's lived up north before and she thinks she might get hired for the pipe line security in March - they fly them in and out and its a set shift and she feels she can do that. The company doing the hiring for the company doing the pipline does have work camps so she could stay in a work camp during the shift - another reason to live in a van - since she would be on a set rotation. I am too old for all that and happy to be retired ! Glad you enjoyed a hot breakfast ! When do you head home ?

Cathy, I am sure the teacher will be on her best teaching behaviour and no doubt work by the book as best you can with these kids, but these people need to see what goes on the in classroom, if everyone behaves, they get no clue to the issues or how to address them. I am doubting that they look at attendance as well. I hope the day was not too too stressful for you ... and I agree with you, sister needs to move away for a while to sort things out - maybe up north is the answer ...

Terri, has your prince left ? Did you get information about the Cpap ? Will they reimburse, will you buy anyway ? My daughter still insists if I lost weight I would not have trouble breathing at night, I disagree, because I feel its a lack of strong muscle in the neck and throat area that is causing this, as we get older our muscles get older too but that is just my thoughts on it. What are you up to today ? Did you get the shots needed for the animals and the collars ?

Betsy, good to see you posting briefly, we know you need your rest, it's been a hectic end of one year and start to another for you. How is everyone doing ?

Well Gene is not adjusting to realising he is not healthy with high cholesterol and low iron and is having trouble needing to take pills, mostly because with the iron pill he needs to drink a full 8 ounce glass of water, this prevents constipation... he really needs to go see his doctor and stop doctoring himself. I keep telling him I cna't help him, I am not medically educated to tackle these things, but I can show him what foods to eat and how to count his cholesterol intake, he is good at tracking his food when he does track it.

This afternoon will be raining again, I dont' mind, I dont' have to shovel it! Later I will go out to dinner with my sister then to Penningtons as I need some jeans, my daughter and I are doing a glass pendant making shop together on Sunday, lunch with her then class and they require we wear jeans and a cotton shirt with long sleeves, I have neither - but need jeans anyway .. so want to get 2 pairs if I can. Sister will drive me there, although I could have taken a bus but this is better. I will buy her dinner... I best get moving and get some things done, will be 5 pm before I know it ! Have a good day everyone !

Morning! Yes, i am having fun and do wish it was about 10 degrees warmer. 1 degree tis AM--notice I'm not outside yet? DH made eggs for breakfast--nice to have something hot. Our review is Saturday--one place says 120 min, the other says 90--I will push for the 90! At least they have juice, coffee, soda, granola bars and fresh baked cookies--we'll munch! And we'll get a tour of the new building that is open--I haven't gone looking since we will have to go then anyway.

Cathy--I hope the teacher does get "caught" so she is reprimanded to come and teach EVERY DAY. Sorry your kids are so troubled. It is good that you bought. I hope my younger 2 can eventually do that as well.

Lindie--live in her van? Really? And just how long would she last on the pipeline? Oh, well.

Betsy-glad to know you are on the mend!

Terri--do you think Steve will notice if you clean his shelf? Wonder what you will find?

Anne--so sorry about the cold house! My folks had that happen last year but could use the wood burning furnace--just had to get more wood. 55 is cold in the house!! Took me awhile to get warm in the hot tub yesterday afternoon. I expect I will be frozen again today--supposed to be warm over the weekend but we don't ski on Sat.

Well--better get moving. DH has started the dishwasher. I did laundry last night--we'll do Fri night to pack up clean stuff and then we move down the hall on Sat. Not really a big deal at all.

Hi all!
I've caught up on some things, but not others. I've had something going on every night this week so far. Co-workers farewell dinner on Monday, ChristLife meeting on Tuesday, and Parish fundraiser meeting last night. I am looking forward to no meeting tonight, lol! I do need to go back through my bills to make sure I haven't missed any. I think I just need to pay the cell phone and the real estate tax, then everything else is due this weekend or later.

Dianne, sorry that it is so cold, but glad you are enjoying your time. Hope the new guy isn't a bugger about trying to get you to upgrade!

Cathy, good luck with the extra person there today! I hope all goes well for everyone!

Lindie, do you think your sister is hoping you and Gene may assist her by looking for a 3 bedroom apartment so she can live with you? Is she the sister that worked at the aquarium? Is she still there?

Betsy, glad you are on the mend. Take it slow!

Terri, good luck with decluttering while Steve is away. What a sweetie to make sure you have wood for your fires while he's gone!

Our furnace broke down yesterday...what a stinking cold night it was at my house, lol! A repairman is here working on it now. I think I jinxed the furnace because I mentioned to someone the other day that it is 42 years old and still doing fine, lol! I sure hope the repairman can fix it...otherwise it is a hotel, preferably one with a hot tub, for us tonight!

Going to get some paperwork done while sitting almost on top of the electric heater, lol! 55* in the house right now.

Have a good Thursday! Weekend is almost here!

Anne

Dianne, you are sounding like you are enjoying everything but the cold. I hate going to those meetings so unless they offer something amazing, I won't go anymore. They even tried to bug us for the couple of days we were staying down in Florida. All I wanted when I got there after a long day at Disney was the room key and was very abrupt with them. Don't they realize that often people are tired when they arrive and just want to get settled in? That is some expensive hot chocolate.
Terri, did you hear if they will cover a new machine? Hope Steve can warm up the house quickly when he arrives. Glad you were able to find someone to cut down the tree and that Steve realized that he couldn't do it himself. Will you keep the wood there for the stove? Nice that you have some stored food there he can eat. Hope you had enough taxes taken out so as not to owe. I do hate when that happens. I think we are fine this year as we didn't take that much out of Dh's IRA account for the house so we should get more back than last year.
Lindie, there seems to be nothing like that at our next door rental---she is constantly taking people in over there and has completely destroyed the inside of that house. The landlord told Dh that---he will need to gut the entire thing when he can get them out---but he isn't pushing it as it is guaranteed money by the government. Around here there are lots of open rentals as they are building lots of new rental apartments and people are moving into them and leaving the old places and the houses empty. But I don't know how they pay the rent they are paying for them. So glad we bought---our mortgage is at least half as much as a rental of a not so nice place. How long do you thing your sister would last up at the pipeline? Do they provide housing up there for their employees? It might be good for you if she did go.
Betsy, glad to know you are feeling a bit better---hope you also take it easy this weekend and don't set yourself back.
I caught Jeremiah stealing from a student's desk yesterday---little gummy bears---so he is in big trouble again. He had a major meltdown from it. The teacher called him mom to let her know everything that went on yesterday so he couldn't go home and lie about it. Oh, the joys of dealing with troubled kids. Today the teacher is being observed by the supervisor of Special Ed. She does have a good lesson planned. I hate having someone in the classroom with us and hope the kids behave---they really don't like strangers. I will be glad when that is over.

Good afternoon! We skied for 4 hours today--no real break. I was cold--it was about 15 degrees outside and I was making my own winHope Steve gets lots accomplished while d at the speeds I was going--clocked 43 mph! So we quite by 2. The hot tub was great--I did do the cold plunge and then got a cool shower. Doing the laundry and boiling the bratwusrt so they won't take as long to cook. Still not sure what we are doing for dinner tonight but we are staying in. We did buy some hot chocolate on the mountain--$5 for one decent sized cup. Helped get me warm so it was worth it but we come back to the condo to eat!

Terri--hubby's CPAP was also old. He has the old one as back up at home now. And insurance covers new tubes, etc 4 times a year so that is good. We are at 10K feel--it isn't supposed to be happy that high--but the CPAPs have both been fine--thank goodness! Hope Steve gets lots done while he is there and nice of you to make sure he has food! Good luck with your projects.

Lindie--do you need the rain? I don't like winter rains much--they seem too cold. Good luck to your sister--sounds like she just likes to complain! (Oh, wait--we knew that! LOL)

DD3 doesn't get here till Friday night late--hopefully by 10 PM but we'll see. We have lots of stuff to do on Saturday--we'll do our "owner update/hard sell" on Sat. We have what we need and are not interested in buying more. But we get a new guy this time cause we haven't bought recently--oh, well--I can put up with him for 90 minutes and drink their coffee/eat their fresh baked cookies! Then we'll go get pizza with DD3 and wander around town. We will also get our skis again--and she'll get hers. We don't ski on Saturday so we return them to not pay for the day.

My dad has had another non-invasive test--needs to talk to another specialist. Found out an aunt by love (she was married to a great aunt's brother) just passed away at 93. Haven't seen her for years but our family was close to them for many years when i was a kid. No service but someday I'll need to find out the cemetery and get flowers there.

Hope the quiet ones are busy with good things!!

Good afternoon all, it poured all morning, and naturally I was out in it. Gene wanted some whole food blood building pills and he thought that would come from Whole Foods Grocery store, well they do have them but not paying 75.00 for a few pills. Went to the drug store and got him something similar to that for like 33.00 and it is food based - however he has to take a pill 3 x a day - got him a small bottle to see how that is ... his cholesteral is also high and instead of going to the doctors who would read his tests better, he is self doctoring, and I hate it when he does this - this morning he made a bean soup - with kidney beans, he knows nothing about foods and their properties ... sigh ... ok let him live it ... then I can fix it later MAYBE - I just told him go to the doctor for a diet plan - but nope - maybe when one of his sisters hits him upside the head with a verbal gibb smack lol rains it pours.

Terri, I have a Cpap machine sitting in my closet, like brand new doing nothing, I never could find a mask that fit my face and kept the air out of my eyes when trying to sleep. I think I only slept good with it a couple of times but because I am a mouth breather I needed a full mask - and I tried several - maybe I should put mine on craig's list and sell it, I paid 2500.00 for it, some of that was reimbursed by benefits ... but without a well fitting mask it was useless - I tried ... are you going to get a heating tubing? Mine was suppose to be one but that air always felt cold to me.

Yup there are odd people out there, my sister is not retired, but she is tired of paying high rent for things that never work, the owner is in China half the time and although they send a repair man, she can't use the stove ring and the oven at the same time due to "wiring" so she's tired of living there. I did ask her about amenities she would need, she said she would just shower at work - .... There are no valid trailer/camper parks but people are parking illegally on the street - the city does try to do something about it, but with no house, where are people going to go, and its not older ones, its young ones, one girl works in a bar another one is a university law student of all things. Others are not so caring and leave a mess and then get ticketed ... I have told her how I feel about it and there is nothing more I can do. She also wants to move up north to work the pipe lines as security - well that might happen in March ...

Dianne, have a nice time with family skiing - I am sure your wrist is just sore from using it differently, after all you don't use ski poles every day - although walking poles could strengthen that if you walk with them when not skiing then it might not be so much of a strain when you actually do ski ...

Cathy, she can't use my facilities that would cause us to be evicted, and that is not going to happen, it was hard enough to get permission for her to stay here for the time she did and I am not inclind to do that again. She has a perfectly good place that needs work, she just needs to get on them and stop being so cheap and pay the rent ... it took forever to find that place, now its not good enough ... how's your knee doing, is it better ? Did you check out that swimming place yet ?

Anne hope your day is going well and you are getting a lot done, as I know you will - have you adjusted now to being home on your own time etc ?

Betsy, I hope the day care is going well, how are things with DD2 ?

Terri, I know what you mean bout being hit with tax, I had to contact them to take more tax off this year because last year they did not take enough and then some pay came through that did not help ... so hopefully this year I paid enough or the amount to pay will be lower ... will only know when I do my taxes later ... how long will Steve be gone ?

Time to get some things done besides chasing after iron pills ... have a good one !!

My CPAP is working fine, but it is several years old and past the recommended replacement date. I'm not sure why they need to be replaced and I'm sure I'll still use this one, but want to get another one if the insurance will cover it. I need a new face mask and the other gear (tubing, filters, head strap) anyway and they won't even sell me a face mask without a Rx so had to get one. I'd like to get a machine that has a battery backup so I don't lose it when the power goes off. It would also be helpful for traveling or camping. Dianne, I never noticed mine behaving any different at a higher elevation and we camped at 7,000 ft.

Steve is leaving this morning for the canyon so he can be there to help the tree man by dragging the brush away as he drops it. I'll send a bag of groceries with him and have already told him that there's chili in the pantry down there that he can warm up. I'm sure the neighbor will have him over for dinner while he's there and he can always make himself a sandwich if he wants. He won't starve. He's filling up my firewood before he goes so I won't have to fetch firewood for a couple of days.

Lindie, we all know that your sis would never last in her car. I know a woman who bought a camper van and traveled all over the country after she retired. She also had a small travel trailer parked in a park near here that she used as a "home base" when she wanted to stay in one place for a while. Her van was a disaster! I don't know how she even slept in there with all the things it was stuffed with. She was driving that thing LONG after she should've surrendered her driver's license and we were all relieved when her daughter forced her to give it up. Do you have things like trailer parks there? If so, how reasonable is the space rent? That might be something she could look into to save money.

Cathy, I didn't know about the machine you mentioned. Does it do a body scan? That would be interesting. I was wondering how the annual checkup would work. I think women are more apt to get hearing aids because we have to know what's going on around us--especially when there are kids involved--while men are often content to be oblivious. Of course, that's a huge generalization based on personal experience, so must be taken with a grain of salt. Maybe it's only true for me because I have a strong Control Gene. Jenny is more like her dad, so maybe it is just me.

I hope your wrist kinks have worked themselves out, Dianne. That's strange that it just acted up that way. Are you sure you didn't strain it somehow while skiing? DD3 should be there by now, right? Enjoy the one-on-one time with her. I know it's fun to have everyone all together, but having them one at a time is pretty special, too.

We liked the new Mary Poppins for its own sake, but tried not to compare it to the original movie. You just can't beat Dick VanDyke and Julie Andrews, so it's not fair to compare them. We're looking for a new series to watch on Netflix. Preferably something that's been around a while so we don't run out of episodes too soon. Any suggestions? We've watched (and enjoyed) Call the Midwife, Murdoch Mysteries, Longmire, Sherlock, NCIS, Blue Bloods, Poldark, Downton Abbey, Dr. Blake, Doc Martin, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and a few others I can't recall right now.

Time to get up and move on to something productive. My list is long and everything I want to do is complicated, but maybe having Steve gone will help because one of the tasks I want to accomplish is to clean off that cluttered shelf where he likes to stuff things and then can never find them again. Also still need to work on the filing cabinet and get things ready to file our tax return. I suspect that we'll have to pay this year because he worked so much, but I'm hoping that we've had enough withheld.

Morning! Hubby does the harder runs once I quit--or sometimes he'll do a hard run right next to my run. So we do enjoy skiing together most of the time. My right wrist is bothering--must have laid on it funny but what a pain! Can't lift much....

Dh's CPAP is working at this altitude--even though it isn't supposed to! Good luck, Terri in getting one.

Heading out--and I'm behind! LOL

Anne, you did get a lot accomplished. Hope you didn't miss any bills. Maybe She should be seen by the doctor as this pain level sounds like something is not right----she shouldn't put off that call as it is possible to have an infection starting. That long receipt at CVS can be a pain, unless it has a free amount on there---LOL---that's the only one I like. How short did you get your hair cut? Glad you really like the cut. Was J glad for you to be home? Was the person who left a full time person? Could you take her place?
Dianne, I could already text on my old phone. But this one is a bit different--more like my tablet---I just want to figure out how to delete the messages now---as that bugs dh too. I did enlarge his print so he should be able to read it without his glasses if need be. Nice of your dh to ski with you. Does he do harder slopes when you stop skiing? Smart to stop when you are tired so to not have any bad spills. I love the New Mary Poppins movie but agree that the songs don't stick with you like the original ones do---esp. the crazy song Topsy Turvy does.
Lindie, I bet is she does that she will expect you to allow her to use your shower all the time. And has she considered the potty issue? No way I could live without a toilet! This probably comes from the story of the blogger who had to move into her van, started a blog that earned her money---now enough to rent another place---but choosing to stay in her van. But people who do this also have to remodel their insides and if you don't have the skills, that can be costly, too. But honestly, there is nothing you can do with her anyhow---like you said, it is her choice--bad or not. Hope Gene tells her no to it.
Terri, glad the doctor recommended that you see a dermatologist. They have a machine that can scan you for cancer spots or potential ones. My mom and grandmom had to have several removed from their faces. HOpe your area dermatologists are not as hard to get into as our area. Hope your insurance will cover the new CPAP machine. Are you having issues with your old one? Good luck giving that cat any shot. Why are we women more apt to realize we need help with hearing and men fight it so much? I have trouble with some of our kids but not from my hearing---they do not speak up or put their hands in front of their mouth when talking---the 2 we have the most issue with go to the speech therapist. But the girl can speak up very clearly is she sees another kid doing something wrong so we know she can speak clearly.
Dalton was back yesterday---needed to go home about lunch time but Mom didn't come get him until 1:30---our lunch time is 11. He turned really pale. Not that much energy in the morning either---I think he should still be home. But bet he is back today.
Had a nice dinner out with friends last night.
No plans for today except work.

Wow Anne! You really hit the deck a-runnin' -- but then, we all knew you would. Good job catching up with the important things and getting the rest organized for later. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Betsy, are you back full-force yet? How's it going?

How was the weather today, Dianne? Better? I know you and Cathy enjoy your timeshares, but I'm glad we didn't buy in when we were courted. The one we went to see was in Lake Tahoe and was okay--nothing fancy--but we knew we couldn't afford it and would never use it enough to justify it. We have friends who bought one in Mexico, I think. They really enjoy theirs and trade around to get to other places. I'm not sure how that works, but they have a lot of fun with it and have gone to some fun places.

I got the new collars and vaccines ordered for the pets (got a series for the dogs, too) and they should be here next week. The cat got her first shots when she was spayed and that was before we brought her home. DS1 took the entire litter and their mama to the clinic and had them all done at once. The kittens only got their first round of shots, but they should have had 3 rounds, about 12 weeks apart--so ours is not really well-protected. I will just start over and give her the first one and then 2 boosters, spaced apart like they should be. Then she'll be okay for a year. She isn't going to be easy because she hates being held. She does like Steve and spends considerable time in his lap as long as he doesn't try to hold her. She owns him--not the other way around. She only communicates with me when she wants out, or in, or food.

I'm trying to figure out how to order a new CPAP system online. I need to talk to my insurance representative first and make sure I can be reimbursed because they are expensive! I started working on it today, but got sidetracked AGAIN.

The doctor is going to refer me to a dermatologist and recommends that I have annual checkups as a precaution. My mother had a melanoma on her leg when she was in her 40s and has had two other types of cancer (completely unrelated to each other), so with that family history, I will not procrastinate with anything that looks suspicious. But first, I need to have the results of the biopsy because, if this thing is something bad, I'll go straight to the plastic surgeon for removal since it's on my face. I should probably have my hearing checked too, Dianne. I can hear, but there are times that I think Steve is mumbling and I ask him to face me when he's talking. Maybe 2020 is the year for our 20K mile checkups! LOL And maybe I can lose 20 lbs?

It has been a long day--fun but I am tired! DH does ski with me unless I decide I am done for the day earlier than he is. In the snow storm yesterday, I went in and he stayed out for awhile. Today we skied together. I can do easy expert runs--I just have to go slow! We had the "movie theater" tonight and watched Mary Poppins Returns in high definition--I really enjoyed the movie and would have liked one of two of the old songs to be reprised but they didn't. Oh, well. DD3 arrives late on Friday--she will ski more with her dad so I won't have to try so hard!

Terri--I have a spot on my back (and one on my side) that are "funny"--I need to find a dermatologist to check them out. I also will go see an audiologist cause I can't hear. I hate this "old" business. Glad you were able to find the right paint.

Anne--welcome home. I hope things go easy for you. When DD2 had the hand surgery, they told her not to let the pain get ahead of her--so she took different pain meds every 2 hours, then every 3 and eventually every 4 hours--and she dropped the opioid by the 3rd day. Sounds like your DIL should have stuck with that for a couple of days more. Hope she is doing better.

Cathy--WOW! Now we can text you! LOL I hated going to the smart phone but now would have a hard time giving it up. You will, too. Glad the knee was doing better--hope it continues. Sounds like a nice birthday for Dom.

Lindi--you do the right thin when you just listen to your sister and let her vent. She can do whatever she wants but shouldn't come to you or Gene for $$. I know rent is expensive but living in your car/van is homeless. Not the right thing to do, in my opinion but....not my business.

Betsy--you hanging in there? Hope so.

Mare--hi!

I have been having weird dreams but getting enough sleep. Tomorrow I think we'll head out earlier than we managed today. I'm sure you have all seen about Kobe Bryant--I guess I am not a basketball person but "the world is in mourning" was one headline--I can think of LOTS of other reasons for mourning but maybe I am way out of touch. I knew I was worried when we did the helicopter tour--with reason, I guess.

Hugs to all!

Good morning friends, I see some are having fun on the ski slopes, others shopping, and getting a smarter then them phone and such !

Anne, welcome home, and hope getting back into routine is not to much of a pain for you - are you happy to be back in your own bed, I think you said you were! Why did the pharmacy prefill your order, we can't do that hear, unless it is called in by the doctor AND the doctor can only call it in IF he/she has seen you ! I am sure you spread sheets will be fine - no one wants to loose any wage !

Dainne, how's the weather today, how's the hip? Mine only bothers me at night also, but its the side I fell on about a week or such ago - I wake up with a burning pain and it affect the leg as well, figure its bruised and I slept on it too long. I found some clam exercises on the spot helped so I could get back to sleep. How are the ski slopes today ? I have never skiied, balance would always be an isue !

Cathy, so you now have a smarter then you phone, which one did you get ? I am glad you are exploring it, and I bet Dom could show you a thing or two, my grand daughter did when I first started with a smart phone. It's still smarter then me but I shut off Siri and Search ... it can be annoying when it tries to second guess you ! I am sorry to hear your knee did not like the knee bend, was it a deep knee bend? I can't do those either but I can do kick backs to help loosen them up from time to tme, but the exercise where you pull your leg up behind you and full bend of the knee, I have to use a towel to do that and it hurts some what but actually feels better afterward !

Terri, I hope that medical issue is nothing and good for you for keeping an eye on those things. I wish I could examine my back for that stuff - but nope, no prince here to help lol Is your weather better today, is the painting inside ? I had to laugh about you and the cat and the cat hating you - Amigo does not like my sister at all - when she comes over, he either goes in his tree or my room ! He has actually hissed at her ! Remember if you wind up with a flea infestation, that Diatomaceous Earth Food grade is great for getting rid of fleas - you spread it, use a mask of course, then leave it - the animals can walk in it, it won't hurt them, and if they like it off their paws it wont' hurt them either, this stuff worked on those bugs I had - any bug that crunches when you step on them are toast - simply vaccuum and there you go. Also it recommends it can refreshen the vaccuum too - I have to do that next but re read the instructions.

Betsy, how is the daycare and life going ? Did you close due to sick kiddies ? It would not hurt to give you a few more days of rest, other then hurting the pocket book. Did you ever find that lost cheque(s)? I found after this cold, it took a while to get my energy back and its still not back 100 % but I figure I have been eating too many of the wrong carbs and will fix that this month, I need to loose weight and get pressure off those knees !

Mare I hope all is well with you !

Well nothing much going on here, some stress from my sister, she now wants to sell her car, but a van and live in it, she's tired of paying out money for rent and believe it or not, a lot of people are doing this, they are tired of the high rents here too ( one reason Charise won't move here ) I don't agree with that, but its her life and her escapism - I think its meno pause kicking in as well, but she mentioned 2000 for this and I am thinking she was hinting at Gene, she seems to think she can get 1000.00 for her car - excuse me ? Maybe 500.00 ... sigh ... so I am not letting it be my monkey and I told her to do what she must... she also wants to go up north to do security for the oil pipe lines going in but there is a lot of "protests" from various groups .... The other day Gene brought home Tim Horton's donuts, and had some glazed ones for me, I do NOT like glaze at all -ever but I eventually ate them.

The cat is doing fine, he's learnt to get on my bed, but does sometimes fall as the grip is not as good lol I should not laugh but its funny when he falls and then leaves my room lol

Well its time to shower and I want to do my bible study for tonight's meeting so I will get off of here and get that taken care off .. adios !!

Hi all!
I have been very busy since I got up yesterday morning, lol! I didn't feel like taking care of the mail and paperwork at home, so I jumped onto the computer and paid the bills I knew I had to take care of before today (28th due date, lol) and then made a piles...to shred, to pay, to file, and to update checking. After that I went had my hair cut and colored. I like it a lot. Then I went to CVS to tell them that I did not want the Rx they auto-filled (which was not on auto-fill) and asked the customer service rep to please stop my Rx's from being auto-filled again! So very annoying! Then I shopped for some hair products, a gift card, and a congrats for new job/sorry to see you go card. I had a $3 extra bucks on the receipt at home, but I thought it was on my card. When it didn't come up on the cash register I told her to keep the hair products and I just purchased the gift card and card. I would have sworn that I was asked at times if I wanted to use my extra bucks and/or other things that come out on their ticker-tape parade of a receipt! I will go back and make my other purchases later this week. By the time I got home I had to go to the gas station. From there I went to the dinner (at the Horse and Carriage restaurant) for my co-worker at the rectory who is now working for CVS Corporate. Now I am home after getting all the paperwork at the garage filed and only need to get the daily worksheets onto the spreadsheets...I guess I may have to use the old style spreadsheet for now so that I can get it done and have it ready for my boss at the beginning of February. Now I am making sure that I didn't miss a payment for something while away and/or due before the weekend. I think I'm okay, but...! I definitely do not want to pay any late fees...they can range from 1.5 - 3 hours of pay!
Ashley is still in a lot of pain. She is trying to hold out before calling the doctor back to have the meds changed again. I think she is so terrified of becoming an opioid addict that she has "shot herself in the foot" by having the doctor changing the type of pain meds and now they don't touch the pain...plus she waits too long between doses. Hopefully the healing will increase and the pain will decrease. It is going to be a long month ahead if it doesn't!

Dianne, sounds like you are having a good time despite the cold and the annoying hip!

Cathy, I bet Dom was thrilled with his day with you and Howard! He's a lucky kid! Did the teacher actually go in for the professional day? Sorry that kitty clean up aggravated your knee.

Terri, I hope that Steve can get all the touch up done quickly! Are the stairs completed now? Too funny that the cat "hates" you! Does he/she love Steve?

Betsy, how are you and all the kids doing? Everyone back to healthy mode?

Lindie, is the weather any better? Are you able to get your steps in? Has Amigo figured out how to get up onto the bed without those long claws?

Mare, hope you are well!

Back to taking care of business! Have a good Tuesday!

Anne

Dianne, do you like skiing in fresh powder? Hope you don't have snow every day. I wonder if you are having a hard time with the cold because we have been pretty mild so far this winter for most times. I had off for professional day yesterday---the teacher had to work ---LOL Do they bug you to go to another sales meeting this time? That is the one drawback that bugs me when I go to stay.
Terri, hope it was nothing but good that you had it checked out. What needs to be touched up with paint? Good idea on the collars---LOL to the cat issues.
I had a pretty busy day yesterday. First I got my laundry in the machine. Then we went to Walmart as I needed some personal care items and we needed milk. We came home and put the few cold items away, then headed to get Dom for his outing. He chose Chick-fil-a for lunch---his mom thought he would chose McDonald's so we were much happier with this choice---LOL---then he told us he wanted to go to Game Stop as that is what he really wanted for his birthday. I texted his mom to verify what systems he had so we knew what to look for. She told us not to spend too much---of course we didn't listen---but we did limit him to one game as the one he got was over $50. We then took him home so that he could play the new game. Then a big surprise for you all---we went and got new smart phones---boy, have I resisted that. Right now I am just concentrating on getting comfortable with calling and texting on it. I did change it so the messages were in bigger print----LOL---and changed my ring tone and tone for messages. My knee held up really good on all those issues and I actually walked quite fast at Walmart compared to how I have been walking. But I came home and had to bend over to clean up cat mess, and boy, did it protest to that action for that long so I had to rest it for a bit. I did get my clothes dried after I got home and put away but I didn't get anything done in the spare room.
Back to work today.

Still raining here, so no outside work today. I had a doctor appt. this morning to have her look at a spot on my face that has decided to make some changes recently. Not taking any chances with skin issues that change color, shape or texture. She took a sample to send to the lab for biopsy and I should have the results by Friday if it's bad news. If not, I'll find out on Monday when I go back to have the stitch removed.

I ordered new collars and ID tags for both dogs so we can get a phone call if they happen to get lost at any time. I'm going to order some vaccines for the cat, too. She already doesn't like me, so I may as well seal the deal! LOL

I'm glad you're getting some good skiing in, Dianne. Make the best of it and have fun. Do you usually stay with DH or does he go off on more challenging runs? What about the girls?

Steve went to the hardware store while I was at the doctor's office and was able to match our paint. There are some places that will need to be touched up, so now we're getting to that point. I haven't made much headway upstairs, but that's my next focus.

Anne, I hope you're not getting slammed with work now that you're home but I expect that you are. It will take you some time to get back in the groove and I hope it goes smoothly.

Time to find something productive to occupy myself with~ See you later.

It is really snowing out there so I did 5 runs this AM and only 3 this afternoon--I didn't want to keep getting all the snow in my face! Enjoyed the hot tub and going for a drink with the condo owners soon.

After lunch--we were out by 9 and in by 11:15 for lunch. It is cold out there today but fewer crowds Yesterday was sunny but windy. Today is colder temp and the sun is hiding--there is snow in the air. I will get out again but....not looking forward to it!

I am managing quite well--surprised! My hip is bothering when I try to go to sleep--last night was better. Hubby needed to change his ski boots so I did the grocery run. About $100 to feed us for the full week--not too bad! The condo is noisier than last year--more kids than we have had around before. Not an issue at night so no big deal.

Cathy--why the holiday today? Glad you can get Dom something with him picking it out. I did see about Kobe--helicopters are not really safe. The poor wife...losing 2.

So--we need to get ready to go out again. Tonight is the owners reception--one free drink at the bar. Tomorrow we have the movie theater--plan to see Mary Poppins Returns. DD3 will arrive Fri and pick the movie for next week.

Hope everyone is healthy and having a good week!!

Anne, hope you slept well in your own bed and that your travel was uneventful.
Dianne, that was a lot of skiing for your first day. Were the slopes not busy for a weekend? Glad only the one mountain gave you fits, it must have been a tough one. You were doing good if you had the energy to go back to the grocery store. Hope the weather is wonderful for all your visit up there. When does dd3 arrive?
Michael and Ashlie met us at Outback for dinner yesterday---we had a nice time. Her and I both brought home half our entree. I didn't eat any bread as I knew I wouldn't be able to eat any of my meal. I was glad to give to the Australian relief effort. While there we saw the news about Kobe Bryant and his dd---how sad.
Yesterday was Dom's birthday, but he was with his dad---Ashlie has to work today so we are going to go kidnap him and take him for lunch and then to pick out his birthday present. I have no idea what to get him anyhow and this gets him out of her hair for part of the day ---she works from home.
I do hope to work a bit more on the spare room today---I did work on clearing the stuff that had fallen down around the closet yesterday so that area looks better and I put away the Christmas and Fall kitchen linens in the closet.
Nice to have a 3 day weekend!

Hi. I slept lousy last night--thought I was awake all night but the fitbit shows I actually slept a lot but did keep waking up. We were out by 9 on the slopes--did 4 runs and came in to grab lunch and warm up. It was windy but the sun is shining. After lunch, we did 11 runs and hit 5 of the 6 mountains. The hip didn't give me any grief and I did lots of stretching while in the big hot tub--I also did the cold plunge pool--my legs were all tingly. I did feel my quads while skiing--they are strong but I was doing a hard slope!

Anne--welcome home.

Betsy--oh, my. You need lots of rest and I hope you got at least some! My folks had 2 parties yesterday--a friend and then the Christmas party held in Jan for Dad's former work. Since it was Dad's birthday, it was really nice to have stuff to do!

Cathy, so glad you found the curtains. And good for getting that cabinet sorted. I hope your coming week goes well.

Lindie--I hope your weather has gotten better!!

Terri--oh well for the lost post. Glad the dogs are getting along and just ignore the cat!

I need to go make supper and then I will hit the grocery store and get the things we forgot before. (Actually, we couldn't have carried anything else!!)

Dianne, glad you are there safely. Hope the skiing conditions are wonderful and that you have no bad falls while there.
Terri, what a bummer to lose a long post. Too funny about the cat! Miss Kitty was like that, too. Hope you enjoyed what ever you 2 watched.
Betsy, glad you are taking it easy---you really have been sick if that is all you are doing this weekend. They might want to keep Dela away for a couple of weeks. Have you been able to air out the basement to help with germs?
Lindie, I took lots of breaks but did get things done yesterday---enough that I was satisfied. We even went to Big Lots and the Dollar Tree. I got some craft things for the kids to use next month and found some llama stuff for Reagann.

emoticon Betsy I hope the grocery trips do not zap your energy and that you do get to relax this weekend. Do you take the children when they are that ill ?

Terri sory bout your lost post, I will always wonder what I missed by not getting to read it.... but understand your not wanting to spend more time on the computer when you can be with your prince!! Have a wonderful night !!

Dianne glad you made it safe and sound - here is hoping your hip flexors don’t act up, maybe do those clam exercises before and especially after to relax them and stretch the knots out !! Have a wonderful time there !

Cathy, I hope you too have had a knee relaxing day and glad you found your curtains - bet you said “there they are “ !! Have you checked out the new pool yet ?

Almost bedtime and still need 500 steps so off I go to emoticon And I already did the bike - the recommend style helps the hip flexors too emoticon

As of yesterday, two of my babes have ear infections, one is still cranky/clingy after her high fever last week and one has a cold with a constantly runny nose. Dela only comes on Fridays and her mother chose to keep her at her grandma’s to keep her healthy. It was a long day but I managed. Part of what made the day long was Cooper refusing a bottle and being very fussy. He was the first one diagnosed with influenza A and was diagnosed with an ear infection last night. The poor babe is only 8 months old. I spent my Saturday on the couch resting and was thrilled to get out of the house for the first time in a week, even if it was just a trip to the grocery store. Tomorrow will be Mass and possibly a trip to Wal Mart plus a lot more resting. One day things will get back to normal...

Ugh--Well, I just lost my post and am not going to rewrite it so I guess my previous novel will just have to tide you over for another day.

All is well. Kora is adjusting nicely and Rosie is accepting her. The cat, not so much but she doesn't like anybody so she doesn't count.

Off to watch some Netflix with my Prince. See you later~

I am in our condo in CO! The trip was fine--we stayed in Denver last night. The drive up was a little slow but we just relaxed so no big deal. Our condo was ready at 2 so we got right in! My SIL still has one here but her ex is using it this year--she lives in DC now. She used to be out here and we'd stay with her a day or two before and after--and use her car!

Tired--we haven't switched time zones. Should make it easy to get out early but we'll see.

Hugs to all--I will stop in to at least say hi!

Dianne, hope you got off before all this rain started. I think they had a lot of natural snow up in the mountains in Colorado, it's just not traveling down to the city as much this year so far. Glad that there are shuttles to take you there---much better than finding rides would be.
Betsy, hope it was a good one day open before the weekend and hope you do not have a ton planned for the weekend---I am sure you still need to rest.
Terri, I hope you are not shocked by how much taking down a tree costs---here I think the cost would be over one thousand.
Lindie, we are having that kind of rain here this morning---but supposed to be done around noon. I hope so as it will be a warm day and it would be nice to be able to be outside for a bit today. Glad you got Amigo's claws clipped---that tale of the tights was funny. I don't have any "fun" plans for the weekend but do plan on doing some work in the spare room.
Michael dropped by yesterday and put up 2 lights on the new deck that are auto on at dusk and off at dawn----he wants us to be safe when we go in and out. He brought the coffee table out of the spare room, too. So now I can work in there. So last night, I was a bit bored and went in there to start working on the cabinet now that I could move things from in front of it---I pulled out the pictures and put them back out in the living room---and then I found my curtains for the dining room. Yippee! So today those will be washed and dried and put back up! And now I can put things back in that cabinet that belong in there---mostly the Christmas and Fall tablecloths and runners.
Are any of you planning to go to the Outback tomorrow? All sales will go to the Australian Fire relief fund so we are planning on using our gift card to give back to that.

Good morning friends, rainy day here again - lots of rain, torrential downpour at times, however, I have not gone out much so no worries there. Did my walking inside - timed it to get the steps in.

Dianne, are you excited for your trip? You can only do so much for Bob, and you are such a loving, caring person, I know you wish you could do more, however, if you did that for all the Bob's you ran into, you would have to go back to work !! I hope the daughter can find out what resources are available and tap into them. Not familiar with US laws on these things. I have no funds what so ever for a home if one was needed, except my pension monies and most places around here are 10 x that of what I bring in !

Terri, good to hear from you, and I am sure your new furbabe will do fine, just more hair to vaccuum up, something I have to do this morning when I am done posting - I need to tackle my room, then the rest of this place, and other cleaning - so today is a cleaning day. Good you net worked with your financial advisor to help keep you on track of what you need to do, and YIKES on that tree - but the worker who will remove it will do so little by little is a good way to remove it - We had trees near our hall on a neighbours' property and they let the trees be trimmed that way, it can get messy but once cleaned up, will be ok. Are you making any plans for your place at the ranch ? I bet you have not even had time to go in there to see what needs doing. One step at a time ....

Anne, no doubt it will be bitter sweet for you to come home, bitter because you have to leave and can't help and sweet because you get away from those annoying things that can bug you - we all have our set ways - I prefer quiet these days I dont' listen to loud music like I used to, but loud enough for Gene to hear it in his bedroom LOL if an Ipad can be loud !

Cathy, how is the kneed today, do you think you may need a replacement procedure ? Will you plan for that inevitable situation, or do you think you can last a bit longer ? They dont' do them here anymore unless there is no other option, so they do physio and other things. I hope you have a good resting weekend ... there are times I watch movies on my Ipad in my room - I dont' always want to watch what Gene is watching - mostly cartoons like IceAge - I like them but not always in the mood for them. Sometimes I will put a movie in just before he gets home for variety ... lol ...

Ahh Betsy, your open today for daycare, did any of your little ones show up or are they all sick too ? I hope you can have a relaxing weekend, if that is possible. By the way, one of my facebook friends just did a trip to Ireland, but North / East of Belfast, saw some amazing pictures of fishing boats, harbours, Belfast city Hall, etc, made me think of you and your trip way back when.... I doubt I will ever get there for now but I am enjoying seeing pictures from others who have gone - oh and this person is a professional photographer ...

It has been a realtave quiet week however, Gene did get to the doctors to discuss an issue his sister/nurse harped on while at that dinner - he has resolved most issues and will do his fasting blood work next monday - Same sister ( my dd1 ) was at her sister's ( my dd2) and had a lot of personal items, pictures, clothes for Charise, other things and she just decided to have it all thrown out ! My DD2 was so upset over some of the items being turfed, like her sister did not want anything. My sister came over complaining about how these kids do not want anything and all that - I just told her they have to live their life and DD1 has distanced herself from this part of the family a long time ago, all you can do is let them go and wish them well. I told her my life does not revolve around the kids, they are adults now, and that I am not going to sit around waiting for a contact from them. I did get a facebook message from DD1 saying it was too bad there was not enough time to do more things. I simply replied with, don't worry about it, be happy, I am happy and I just want you to be just as happy and content as I am .... Now on to Amigo, no more bloody hair balls at this time, we did take him to the vet to get his claws trimmed - funny thing while I was sitting in the living room, he went to paw me to get my attention, his claw got caught on my tights I was wearing, could not pull it out and started to use the other paw toward my leg, and then stopped, I got up, took my shoes off, and pulled my tights off carefully as he was already upset and I did not want to be scratched then once the tights were on the floor he was able to release - I picked up my tights and put them back on LOL -it was NOT funny then but funny to think about - told Gene about it so he took him to the vet and clipped him. This morning he tried to get on my bed, like he did before and fell back, no claws to pull him UP ... lol I am sure he will need clipping again in the future but at least he's not getting them caught in things. Well cat hair and furballs await me I best get going. Have a great weekend everyone !!!!

Morning! I did a workout--worked up a weat in 20 minutes! Now getting Spark done. Terri--good to hear from you! We are planning a shuttle but I will look for Uber drivers and try to spot him! That would be funny!

Trying to picture the oak tree at the canyon--can't quite. That will be good to get done. And while you really don't need another dog, sounds like Rosie is okay with it. And if it gives you free house/dog sitting, that is worth it! LOL

Cathy--glad to know you like the series. The book is also excellent but only covers the first season. My hubby does enjoy it, too--at least, he sits and watches it with me.

Well, need my shower and then all the "last minute" things! Do need a pair of gloves for my coat pocket. I know they have good skiing but don't know how much snow is made vs falling all over town. Guess we'll find out!

Dianne, sounds like a nice dinner out with the girls. Bob's dd needs to check into getting him switched to her state. I think that is not that difficult---often happens with older people---and they might be able to change his burial plans to one down there or he can be sent up there for extra money. I do feel sorry for her in having to deal with it on her own as it doesn't sound like the brother is willing to take any responsibility. Hope you have good weather for traveling---heard from one of my gardening team friends that they have lots of snow up in the mountains there but not much where she lives, which is kind of unusual.
Terri, quite the book---LOL---so good to hear how things are going. Glad the new dog is working out and hopefully he can keep Rosie calm during storms and that Rosie doesn't pass on her fright of them. I agree that it usually is easier to lose when warmer, but when summer gets here, I hate being outside so it works the opposite for me. I will try to do it differently this summer. No, Howard won't watch it with me---I am stuck at my desk to watch it. I just started season 5 last night when I got home..
Decent day yesterday but I didn't do too much moving around. HOpe to do a bit more today as we do go to the library first thing today. We did hear that Dalton will be back next week---we think a bit soon---we were thinking first of February---but he can't do gym at all and we figure we will have to be careful not to be in the hallways where there are a bunch of kids to keep him from being bumped. I think Mom wants to get rid of him---LOL
TGIF!

It's late in the day, but I have some time so thought I'd try to catch up. I've been reading, but usually on my phone while in the car or doing other things and not able to type much.

So sorry that Betsy is sick. I know it's the season for it, but I think she's had more than her share of health issues in her family. It made me sad that K doesn't feel able to live in her own apartment after paying rent and signing a lease! That is just NOT right. I think I'd have to say something--but would probably get into trouble for butting in. She really does need to stand up for herself, though I know it's difficult.

Bob's situation makes me glad that my mother bought long-term care insurance for herself. She has said that she does NOT want to live with any of us and that will make it difficult for visiting her in a facility that is hours away. My brother wants her to move to WA but she hates the cold up there. It would be perfect if she could be close to family and have a small place of her own. Instead, she has a large place of her own and lives 2 hrs from me and I'm the closest. I don't know if Dad has made any such arrangements for himself.

Steve and I will see a lawyer and get things set up for ourselves eventually, but probably not until we sell one or both of the houses. We had a phone conference with our financial planner yesterday and discussed our options for investing what doesn't go into the purchase of the ranch. It feels good to have a plan--never mind that someone always seems to throw a monkey wrench into my plans and set them awry...

Cathy, I'm concerned about that knee. I know the extra weight can wreak havoc with our joints and once there is inflammation, it can be a never ending cycle. My weight has been creeping back up after I was doing so well after my surgery last year. I was down 30 lbs and have gained 20+ back. I know it happened when winter came and I was doing more comfort cooking and baking for the holidays. Carbs just cling to me and pack on weight. I need to get it turned back around! It will help as the spring comes and it's time to work outside, but I really had hoped to be further down on the scale instead of taking the same weight off AGAIN! What does the doctor say about possible treatments besides drawing off the fluid? I can't help but think that there's something going on in there that's causing the inflammation and swelling. You need to get it sorted out or you'll be out of commission for the Greenhouse and your other spring activities. Maybe an MRI is in order if this continues? We loved the Call the Midwife series! We are always looking for a good series to get into and have watched some good ones. Does Howard watch it with you or is that not to his taste? Steve did watch it with me and enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't have chosen it on his own.

I'm looking at the seed catalogs and getting ready to start some seeds in my kitchen windows. I learned last year that there are some seeds that can take more than a month to even sprout, let alone grow to any size. I want to start some peppers for sure. They are slow pokes. Tomatoes will be next. Once Steve gets these projects done here at the house, we'll go out to the ranch and start putting up the deer fence for my garden area. After last year, I know that I can plant my garden there and if I can't be out there often enough, Ben and/or Sarah will look after things for me. They won't want to have all the responsibility, but will pick and water when I need them to if I can't get out there. I won't plant as many cucumbers, for sure. I still have plenty of pickles on the shelf and might not even need to make any more this year unless there is some serious consumption soon. With Jenny's family on the coast, I don't have as many grands hanging out at my house these days, but I try to keep her supplied when I go to town. The ranch grands go through them too. I think my focus will be on tomatoes and peppers for Italiian sauce and salsa, salad fixings, squash & pumpkins, melons, and green beans. Maybe corn too, although I don't usually have much luck with that.
I'll have plenty of space and water though, so may as well give it another try.

Safe travels, Dianne. I hope your hips hold up without giving you any trouble while skiing. I don't remember you mentioning your SIL this time. Is she going to be part of this trip? Haven't you shared a timeshare with her in the past or am I confused? My DS4 is living in Denver and driving for Uber. His name is Daniel, just in case he's your driver. Tell him his mom says hello! That would freak him out. I have always told my kids that I have lots of ways to keep track of them, so that would really mess with his head if you were to bump into him and make that connection! LOL Now I'm hoping that you get him (but I know it's not likely).

Lindie, that was a thoughtful gift to give your DD. She probably hasn't thought about those shoes in a long time. Do your think she'll have them bronzed? My mother had some of mine done and attached to a base that holds a framed picture of me wearing the shoes. Now that I think of it, I haven't seen it in years, so she must have it put away somewhere. How is Amigo doing since that nasty hairball? Any other symptoms?

Anne, you're going to really appreciate your own quiet busy-ness when you get home after living with your grandchildren for a while. It would be difficult to be in their home, correcting their bad habits while their mother is right there. I don't hesitate when they're in MY home, but it isn't my place to try to train them in their own home where their parents have set the standard. At our house, it seems that it's always table manners that get worked on. I don't think many of my own children share a table with their kids because they sure don't understand basic table etiquette! I kept all 4 ranch kids, plus Jennifer's 3 yesterday. They were all really good but it's always interesting to sit down for a meal with them. They are never allowed to use knives at home, so don't know how to cut up their meat into bites. They pick up food with their fingers and reach across each other for things. So every meal around my table is an exercise in etiquette and training in using TOOLS and WORDS. The kids don't seem to mind and I'm careful not to come across as critical of them (or their parents), but we ask for things to be passed instead of reaching across another's plate; remind the other kids to pay attention and respond by passing the asked-for item; say plenty of "yes, please" and "no, thank you" instead of "Sure" or "No, I'm good". I know you are a huge blessing to Ashley and the rest of the family right now. It can't be easy for her to watch another woman running her household while she's so miserable. That was a nasty break!

Mare, how are things with DH now? Has he recovered from his fall? Have you? Has DS found a place to settle or is he still couch surfing? I am really amazed at how many young adults are doing that! My DD2 lived in a 4 bedroom house with her then-husband and they had at least 5 other roommates! The three bedrooms were rented out, there was a futon in the living room, and someone made a space for themselves in the garage where there was NO heat! This was on the coast and it's a college town (Humboldt State University) but I couldn't help but think it would be a miserable way to live. Eventually, DD2 thought so too and pushed her dh to get them into an apartment of their own; however, she informed me that it was very much a way of life for many people and especially students.

I have my new calendar all filled in and have been checking it daily to remind myself about upcoming events and plans. Losing a day really got to both of us, so we're paying closer attention lately. Of course, the kids now have something to tease us about--but that's okay.

When we were down in the canyon last week, Steve became concerned about an oak tree that would hit our house if it fell over, so he asked the neighbor to line up some tree work for us. The neighbor has a nephew who does it for a living and was going to be out to do some work at their house, so he said he'd have him walk over and look at the tree to give us an estimate. Steve plans to go down there and haul brush out of the way while the work is being done. The man will climb the tree and take it down in pieces so it doesn't do any damage to anything on the ground. We expect it to cost about $500, but it will be worth it to protect the house. That's another reason he's working so hard to get these projects buttoned up here so he won't have to stop in the middle to go back down there.

Our DD2 called last night to ask if we might be able to take care of her dog while she goes out of town for the weekend. She and her BF had gotten the pup when they were planning to move in together and all went well until it didn't. (She wanted to get married and start a family and he ended it) He had kept the dog because he has a house with a yard, while DD2 was moving out into an apartment that didn't allow pets. Well, he has decided to move to L.A. and called DD2 to let her know that the dog was with a dog-sitter but couldn't stay there. Would she be able to take care of it? Well, this was their "child" and DD said, of course she'd take care of her--but that has proved to be difficult. She still can't have her at the apartment and doesn't want to move (but has been looking for another place), and the friends who have been keeping the dog have two of their own who are territorial and are ganging up on the new one. Poor DD was beside herself and didn't know what to do. So we agreed to give it a try while she's out of town to see how it goes here with the understanding that we'll keep Kora if we can. Rosie doesn't like sharing Steve, but has accepted Kora's presence without aggression and has just established herself as "the boss dog". She's medium sized, very smart and well-mannered--so it looks like we'll be adopting her. We weren't planning on getting another dog any time soon, but at least now we know we can always ask DD2 to house/dog sit for us if we need to go out of town! LOL

That's about it for me. Plenty to keep me busy around here, but I'm not exactly a ball o' fire lately. That needs to change.

Morning! I had a nice dinner yesterday with the group--one gal had missed in Dec because her 95 year old mom passed away. Well--she had little soaps from Windsor Castle for each of us--she had gone to England in early December--and she also had a calendar that her husband did of sunrises at the shore--very pretty.

Bob is now on Medicaid -- in NJ--so can't really move to SC to be nearer his daughter. I do wish he had gone earlier but he has all his burial plans in NJ as well--prepaid. So--just not sure what is going to happen. I just feel so bad for his daughter because she has tried to do everything "right" and the place didn't work with her at all.

We leave at noon tomorrow so I have things pretty much all done. Water plants once more, set curtains, etc and we will go!

Cathy--I am sorry it hurts to walk. My massage did loosen things up but they get tight again too quickly. She did some massage of the IT band and I didn't scream! Sounds like your sub was pretty worthless--likely need to say something to the office about having a sub for YOU since you end up teaching. Otherwise--hand her the stuff and you relax!

Have to finish with the cleaning I plan to do before I head to the home for a last visit before vacation.

Dianne, so sweet for you to worry about Bob but it really is up to his family and it is his own fault that he would not move closer to his dd. If he is going to have to move out, then she should find one that will take him closer to her no matter what he says---at this point, he really doesn't have much say in the whole matter---sad for him but unfortunately there really is little choice now. It might be different if there were people ---old friends and family---that came to visit him where he is but since there is no one and he doesn't seem to have any friends---it really won't be any worse if he has to move closer to her since he will have to move. I know you would miss him but then you know his dd could go visit him more if closer to her and maybe get him away from the anger he feels when his son comes to visit which seems to be rarely.. Hope the massage got your hips a bit looser and didn't make them sorer for the trip. Do you leave this weekend? I know you must be getting excited. After reading about airplanes lately, do you think you should wear a mask on the plane? Nice to be taken out to breakfast.
The day went well but I had a sub in with me and she didn't really want to go to specials with the kids---she was "in" for the teacher but had nothing to do since I do everything with the kids----grrrrrr---that ticked me off. Probably good thing the teacher stayed home---she texted me that she had had bathroom issues all day. So I really didn't get a break all day long again!
Got home and Dh wanted to go to Sam's club---so after watching an episode of Calling the Midwife, off we went and had pizza there for our dinner and got the items we needed. When I got home I took a shower and then iced my knee. I tried to walk too fast and that hurts---so right now my pace is very slow but when I do that, I don't have the pain so I will slowly build back up---rather no pain than have pain!
Just 2 more days to go of this week!
Betsy, hope you can open today but if you are still sick, don't !

Morning! Anne--glad things are going at least okay for you. I hated it when the kids would get stuff out and not put it away. If I had to put it away, it went away for a bit! They learned!! Haven't never had a broken bone or surgery, I can't speak to the pain but yes, Moms have to be able to put it behind them and get up and going. Sorry--comes with the territory!

Cathy--really?? Out again?? This one is a "winner" for sure. Glad you didn't have too many kids. I support education for all but sometimes wonder at the resources put into those who likely will never "do" for themselves. Oh, well. I do hope the knee starts to feel better.

Betsy--so sorry to see you are closed again cause you are sick. That is no fun at all. Stay inside and keep warm. It is cold for NJ--it was 18 this AM. Hubby took me out for breakfast--that was nice. His car is getting its regular maintenance today so he has a loaner--gold instead of silver in color!

Terri and Lindie and Mare--hope you are all doing fine.

I have my massage today--she is going to try and get the front hips loose--we'll see! And tonight is dinner with the moms. I will see Bob tomorrow--doubt that anyone will visit while I am gone--I guess the son came last weekend to tell him he had bought a new truck for $40K--must not have all the bells and whistles. That amount would pay off the bill for Bob so he wouldn't have to move. And I believe the son owes him that much $$ cause Bob loaned him $$ for buying the first house--but he will never see that. I don't know how to help/what to do--isn't my responsibility but I do wish I could help. The daughter is feeling such stress right now....

Well--stay warm all!

Anne, glad to hear that you are surviving. Hope she feels better after the stitches are out---she best put on her big girl panties on for after you leave. Try making it a game to pick up things after they are done---or not let them have something else out until the other is picked up---sounds like you are needed to train them a bit before you leave. I can imagine it hurts when she puts any weight on that leg---she really did bust it up good---yuck---rather have my knee drained than go thru that---LOL---and it is not fun for me either! You come home next week?
Dianne, how sad! nursing homes are so expensive. We would have had to put my mom's house on the market if she had lived and had to be in one---they would have drained it dry and then raised a stink for more afterwards but I don't think she would have had to move from where she was as I have a friend who is in there and I know she has no money other than her SS and medicare.
Terri, glad everything is okay and that you made it to appointments and lunch out.
Lindie, can't take today off---the teacher is off AGAIN. I tell you she cannot make it thru a whole week and this one was a short one. Oh, well, not my job to control her. Yes, it is cold here---I wore my cuddle duds under my pants to keep my knee warm yesterday---today will warm up a bit more but starting out cold. My knee was painful at times but not so bad that I couldn't walk.
We had dinner out with my pool friend Nancy and her husband and caught up with news---we might join in at the other pool---she got us info on it---but I am not rushing as this knee has got to feel better before I do any exercises---it seems to be improving but does look a bit swollen at the end of the day.
We only had 2 kids yesterday---haven't heard from Dalton's mom so we have no idea how he did. Our girl was out---probably missed the bus and Mom has no transport that we know of. So yesterday was an easy day. I worked with Jeremiah on his more advanced math than Richie---and today I am going to have Richie do a number page and then redo the math paper he messed up on yesterday.
Have a good Wednesday!

Lindie--no, he isn't a vet. He did get into the service but was discharged fairly quickly. This place is just a profit-focused place. I don't know what is going to happen. I can help a little but not financially that way. I do buy him the cheese, etc that he likes.

Terri--glad you remembered the appointments! Hope you had a nice lunch!

I am freezing--took my niacin (seems to be helping reduce the cholesterol) and it messes with my temperature--I turn bright red and am hot on the outside but freezing in my core! Need a cup of tea!
