Surgery & Recovery Update

Up-date: I saw the surgeon on the 5th of November and now have been referred back to the Hospital to see the Head and Neck Surgeon I saw originally...

On December 11th I am back to Cancer Clinic for follow-up with Oncologist...

My next surgery won't happen until sometime in New Year. With the increased cases its too risky for me at this time...Please keep it all in prayer for God's Will to be done.

Thank you all for your kindness and your ongoing prayers, my surgeon has booked surgery for February 8th at 12 noon...I was told to follow up with oncologist before surgery can proceed ahead. Will keep you in the loop...

That nerve pain in your mouth caused by the surgeries has got to be so painful! I know you're more than ready to get the next surgery done, even though you'll have even more time to spend in the recovery stage. I pray that your problems from the past surgery can be corrected and the nerve damage alleviated.
I will be thinking of you next Thursday as you go to your appointments, and saying prayers for your doctors to find the right treatments as you battle those cancer cells, and to find the best surgeon to reconstruct your lip and mouth.
You've been on that liquid diet for so long, and I know you are looking forward to the day that you can eat soft foods and then solids again.

My updates on my current condition are below.

I need prayer for my appointments on September 24th regarding my ongoing treatment, surgeries and current problem areas that are being watched since last surgery.

I see a Medical Oncologist who is reviewing the current treatment plan and what the next step will be. Later same day I see my Melanoma Oncologist. He will be doing tests and reviewing the next surgery that needs to be done to correct the areas that were damaged during my last cancer surgery!

I have active cancer cells growing thru body that need to be stopped so my healing can take place.

Prayers for wisdom for my Oncologists that correct treatment will be found. And for he best Surgeon found who can do the reconstruction of my lip and mouth. I have nerve and muscle damage in mouth and left upper lip which involves left side of my nose.

The reconstruction will put my lip and side of nose back into right place, right now they are leaning towards left side. Once reconstruction takes place my alignment will be completely normal. My mouth is very painful since surgery, its from nerve damage from cancer surgery.

As result it has impeded my ability to eat solid foods which has put me on a liquid diet, high calorie soups, juices, almond milk, smoothies, thinner milkshakes and Boost nutritional drink.

Updates: Prayer Needed:

Regarding my Cancer Journey: I have 2 appointments this month, one with Medical Oncologist regarding my treatment and possible more tests, and one with my Melanoma Oncologist, have new spots forming that were not there before my last surgery that have to be watched and biopsied,

Waiting to hear from Surgeon regarding another surgery that is for Reconstruction to repair the areas that were damaged from the Cancer surgery 3 months ago. Was told it would take 3 months to recover and areas to heal from the extensive surgery that was done, unfortunately what they expected to heal and recover has not so they have to go back in to surgically repair the area.

This past week has been most challenging still dealing with swelling and mega pain sutures in lip/mouth still dissolving! My BP remains high, this morning 160/96/77 and tonight 160/91/83 and weight is down to 108 pounds:

I admit, it’s hard to remain positive when you are feeling so drained! However, I know God is watching over me and will continue to bring strength and healing! Please pray for my appointment with Cancer Clinic on Friday to meet with my Oncologist.

Thank you for the update. I am so sorry you are going through this but you have a wonderful attitiude.

Thank you, I had my telepone call with Family doctor, she has ordered in a Mobile Lab to do kidney function test, check my electrolytes and blood levels. She is concerned about my high blood pressure and increased my meds, I check back with her in 2 weeks.

I see my Surgeon on Saturday May 16th at 3:10pm. For the most part have had telephone calls with my specialists but this time he needs to see me in the clinic to check the surgery suture/surgery site and check inside my mouth besides the left side of face nose and lip.

All sutures are dissolvable, I still have issues with pain, swelling and High BP but know this will improve and I will get past this.

My other appointments at Cancer Clinic with both oncologists are scheduled for end of May. Will keep you in the loop and appreciate your prayers!

Continuing to think of you. How was your telephone conference? I am so glad we have this technology so you don't have to go into the doctor's office.

The following appointments are coming up regarding my cancer journey!

May 15th, see Oncologist and will receive Pathology report and discuss treatment options and plans;

May 25th follow-up with Surgeon to see how surgery site is healing and my ongoing recovery;

May 7th I have a Telephone conference call from my Family Doctor to check up on swelling and High BP issues

You all are such good friend's I value your support more than you will ever know…

What a nightmare. I too am glad you are home where you can better recover. Do you have any help? I am keeping you close in my thoughts.

You have really been through it! I am so thankful that you are back home. Yes, it is definitely safer there. Is anyone there helping you?

The cost of all those medications can be so high. That's good that the nurse gave you some of the medications.

What a scare with all the nausea and vomiting, pain, breathing problems and high blood pressure! That can really take away what little energy you have left after a surgery.

I'm glad you have felt like writing today. Hope you can get plenty of rest at home and be on your way back to feeling good again real soon.

Surgery & Recovery Update

Wednesday and Thursday were intense, my surgery on Wednesday took over an hour and then I spent the remainder in Acute Care Recovery until 5:30pm.

There were issues with oxygen, bleeding, nausea, vomiting and blood pressure being too high!

Wednesday and Thursday I was on oxygen with severe pain, nausea, vomiting, BP very high, however, just before Midnight Thursday my 02 levels returned to normal.

With monitoring me for remainder of Thursday/Friday my surgeon released me to go home this weekend and said I would be better at home away from the environment of potentially getting sick. With current pandemic and conditions this was a wise move especially with my weakened immune system with cancer!

Surgeon ordered mega prescription meds for me and the only med that was covered was my antibiotics, other meds which look after the pain, nausea, vomiting, high BP and wound care, came to a grand total of $85.00.

However and with many thanks the nurse gave me the remainder of the 2 meds that I was using for psoriasis and the polysporin for wound care along with the swab applicators which helped keep my med bill down.

My anti nausea meds used for cancer patients came to a total of $56.92. The other pain meds that were not covered cost me $17.99

So getting the freebies from the nurse really helped! Thankfully I have a Blood Pressure monitor. Because my BP is quite high I am instructed to take my BP twice a day!

I see my surgeon and medical oncologist in 2 weeks. Pathology report will come in at same time they hope!
