I just finished a pair, and now I'm trying something new, making thigh-high socks using sock yarn so that I can wear them with my short knit skirt. I'm really excited to be trying something so different!

I'm definitely like that if they're a complicated pattern. Because once I wear them, I have to wash them, and then they start to look not-new.

I just recently decided to give SP another try and I am finding that I am more successful this time than last. Yeah!!

I am like a lot of people, bored with just one project so I have several. I am almost finished with my second pair of Kimono socks out of Knitscene magazine, (cute, fast and fun). Just started "Let Down You Hair Socks" from Cherry Tree Hill (love the yarn)and I am trying to finish my Kimono Jacket out of "Two Sticks and a String" that I started 10 years ago and just dug out of the closet. I am going to take a class next week on adding beads to my knitting projects which will be fun. I have several other projects going but they have been put on the back burner.

As to giving gifts to people its really hard. Most don't understand the time, effort or money that you put into them. If I make a project for them (which is few and far between) I involve them in the decision process. If its a gift for a friend, I buy a gift card for the store they like and leave it at that.

Lady51: That's why I chose the dishcloth. It's a really simple pattern:
45 stiches.
**K one row (this is the wrong side).
*K1, Knit 1 into the stitch below. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
K next row.
K2, *Knit 1 into the stitch below, K1. Repeat from * to last two stitches. K2.
K next row.**

Repeat the pattern between ** and ** until the cloth is roughly square. It is really simple, but really pretty--this knitting into the stitch below creates a pattern called "Brioche" if I'm not mistaken. I'm using 100% cotton yarn, so that it will wash well.

And, on the topic of people turning up noses: I hear ya. Then again, she also huffed when he husband gave her this glorious blender for her birthday--some might not be impressed, but I was like, "Blender! That's so COOL!" Oh, and it didn't help that she picked out both the pattern and the yarn.

Hi Everyone let's see I have the white antler cable that was to be my test pattern for the black antler hat to match hubbys antler scarf. I just finished the black one last night, and D#1 wants me to finish the white one for her. (I think it is a bit masculine, and she is little) Two different scarfs, and a hat and scarf set, a pink baby blanket, and a chemo hat started and a Ed's hat ( pattern from lion brand website)

You use sock yarn for socks. It is about the weight of sport yarn.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to this team I have gotten back into knitting and crochet. It is great to hear about the projects you are making.

Right now I am crocheting a prayer shawl as a surprise gift for a very elderly lady in my church. She gets very cold. It is almost completed. I just completed a knitted Beret which is being worn in Ireland. My friend left last week. Plan to do another Beret for my GD ~ she loves them. I want to learn how to make socks. What type of yarn do you use for socks?

I haven't been knitting for a while and on Monday night our patchwork teacher was saying she needs knitted items to send to Africa. Yesterday I knitted a hat for a toddler and started a tanktop/vest for a toddler. I've got heaps of yarn in my stash, I'll be able to make dozens of hats.

ELLEGEAUX, I can’t believe she turned her nose up at a handmade gift! I’m so sorry. That would really hack me off.

BLUEJEANLADY, I completely agree with you on the socks! I always have a sock on needles in my purse—it’s small enough to fit in it and I can take it everywhere without needing to have a knitting bag.

Thanks for your response CamyTang. I actually meant to ask about crocheting, not knitting. That was a typo. LOL! I am already knitting, and I want to learn how to crochet in addition. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can go to learn how to crochet?

Hi I have not posted in a while. I'm renewing my conviction to lose weight but I've been knitting all along. I have one pair of soldier socks OTN, One pair of socks for me, and an angora cabled hat that I have designed and am re-working the pattern on. I also am spinning some fabulous angora/merino/silk to make a lace shawl with. One bump of 4 spun and ready to knit.

I am in the middle of two projects (not good for a beginner like me!) I get bored with one easily so I switch back and forth. One is a big blanket for myself. Lion brand pattern with speed stix. The other is a basketweave cell phone holder. I am working hard!

Ellegeaux - That is terrible that your friend didn't like the baby blanket. Don't give up just pick the recipient more carefully.

I currently have two shawls on different needles...
a purple one for my sister and a pink one probably for my daughter.

I currently have a dishcloth (100% cotton) on my needles and recently completed ...hm, maybe it wasn't so recently, as I can't recall what it was!

I made a gorgeous ruffled baby blanket for a friend (last time I'll do that... she turned her nose up at it).

I need to knit some house socks for the BF.

I also knit myself a hooded sweatshirt, which is more like my security blanket--I wear it around the house all winter long!

I have two projects in flight. One is a scarf for my hubby - simple reversible patter with a single cable and ribbing. The other is a moss stitch tunic sweater. I have not worked on that for several months, and hope to get back to it when the scarf is done. Finally, I have done one trial Moebius strip using Cat Bordhi's pattern and want to do another one with some cashmere yarn.

A pair of socks on size 2 dp needles with self striping yarn. I learned to make socks right after Thanksgiving with the help of knittinghelp.com and do not know why I didn't learn earlier. Everyone including teenage boys got socks for Christmas. I think every knitter should have a pair of socks going at all times and have their project hidden in their purse or pocket for those times where you are caught with nothing to do.

Gweebe, I had to learn intarsia kicking and screaming! Originally I was going to do a knit/purl family crest design for the afghan, but it looked awful and so I had to learn intarsia or the pattern wouldn't show up. It looks rather ugly on the reverse side but I'm almost done so I'm past caring!

I haven't knit in a while, because I have had deadline upon deadline for the past two months. I have three projects that I started and I haven't finished. A green and gold shawl for my mother, a little cropped jacket for my mother-in-law, and a lace scarf for a friend. Does someone have a suggestion for a quick gift I can knit in 2 or 3 hours?
