The exercise I really like (and this surprised me) is side planks. There are a ton of things I can do because of some pain issues, but I can do this and I love seeing how long I can make it and how I progress over the weeks. It makes me feel strong and I love that!

Hello BLC Team!

My favorite exercise is also walking. I love to add some running and biking in there but I seldom get to do that. If I really thin about it I love to bike but outdoors not on a stationary bike. I love to be in nature feeling the sun and the wind on my face!

My vegetable is sugar snap peas. My mom introduced them to me a couple of weeks ago and I love to snack on them when I am hungry or need a crunchy low cal snack. They are crunchy, slightly sweet, and can satisfy thirst also! I get them in small bags from Wal-Mart in the produce section. They are full of fiber and filling

Last week I tried a new veggie-Naples.Cactus Pads. Here is some information about them. Health benefits of nopales
Nopales are one of the very low-calorie vegetables. 100 g of fresh leaves carry just 16 calories. Nonetheless, its modified leaves (paddles) have many vital phytochemicals, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that can immensely benefit health.

The succulent paddles are rich sources of dietary fiber, especially non-carbohydrate polysaccharides, such as pectin, mucilage, and hemicellulose. Together, these substances help bring a reduction in body weight, LDL-cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. This fiber and mucilaginous content in cactus aid in smooth passage of digested food through the gut and help relieve constipation problems.

Also, the juice extracted from the nopal has been suggested to have an immune booster and anti-inflammatory properties.

Cactus pads feature moderate amounts of vitamin A with 100 g fresh pads carrying about 457 IU of vitamin-A and 250 µg of ß-carotene. ß-carotene converted into vitamin-A inside the human body. Studies found that vitamin-A and flavonoid compounds in vegetables help protect from skin, lung, and oral cavity cancers.

Further, nopal pads contain small levels of the B-complex group of vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), and pantothenic acid. These vitamins are essential for optimum cellular enzymatic and metabolic functions inside the human body.

Fresh pads contain average levels of vitamin-C. 100 g provides 9.3 mg or 15% of this vitamin. Vitamin-C is a water-soluble, natural antioxidant, which helps the body protect from scurvy and offer resistance against infectious agents (boost immunity) and help scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals from the body.

They contain small amounts of minerals, especially calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron.

I was shopping on Amazon and found these...Biena Vegan Non-GMO Baked Chickpea

I gave them a try, and they're actually pretty good. But!, way too expensive in my book for what you get. Turns out they are simple to make and there's tons of recipes out there. Best part, I will get to control the sodium/fat content!

For those who know me, you'll know right away what my all-time fave exercise to do is..lol I love riding my bike/spin class. It's a great cardio workout, and fun at the same time...sure doens't get any better than that. :)

Healthy food for Nutrition Bingo: I tried a new nut butter--really like the cashew and honey almond, finally tried sunflower seed and YUMMY!! I usually eat these butters with an apple. I also stuff celery with different laughing cow cheeses.

I had something new today with my lunch. Del Monte has these cups of fruit with chia seeds. I had the Pear with blackberry flavored chia seed, but it comes in several different flavors. Chia seeds may seem a little gross when you first go to eat / drink them, but they provide Omega-3 and are a great source for fiber.

Even the pinkest flamingo starts off grey.

I had a nice healthy breakfast this morning and thought I'd share for BINGO.

I had one slice of whole wheat toast spread with 1/2 of an avocado (not butter) and topped with an egg I dry fried in a non stick pan. I added 1/2 of a pink grapefruit.

Now to avoid the chocolate I keep finding around the house.

My favorite strength training is using the big ball. Crunches using the big ball is more comfortable than on the floor. emoticon

My favorite Strength exercise routines are done in the water. I use hand barbells for arm work out. I use a Silver Splash fitness board for both arms & core workout. I use long barbells for my core workout. I do wall push ups and step ups as well as a barre routine for working my legs & lower abs. It's a great routine & I do it 3 days per week.

I went and visited a friend this morning for coffee and she asked me if I wanted to go with her to the Vancouver Public Library this evening as they have a new Aboriginal story teller. It is a free event from 7 - 8:30 so I said I would go. The only bad thing is that it is raining out and we have to leave at 5:45 as it takes about an hour by public transit to get there.

Other than that I am not getting all the stuff I wanted to get done but I do have tomorrow morning before the kids show up

I did 25 minutes of yoga this morning. I hoping to do some core strength work this afternoon. I wanted to go for a walk but it is pouring rain here and has been since 7 am. I guess I need to get a rain coat so I can walk and not get sick.

I walked 3.5 miles with my dog this morning. I hate the weather we are having here in my area. It is rainy, cloudy and cold. It makes it hard to want to do anything.

I am going with the group-squats are one of my favorites. I haven't done planks in a while but I love doing them. This week I did squats, pushups, and stand up on my toes and hold the position. That isn't easy in a squat but I am practicing doing that. I saw it on a video.

I don't have a place where I can jump rope or hula hoop or I would be having fun doing that. I am going to buy a hula hoop to play with my grandkids in the yard this summer.
