I had been using an iHealth meter I got from Amazon since I was diagnosed in June. I altered my diet significantly, haven't cheated, took diabetes classes at the hospital, started exercising, and have lost 30 pounds or so, so far... but my numbers were still disappointing (on my meter). So, last week, I asked my doctor for a prescription for the FreeStyle Libre CGM, knowing my insurance probably wouldn't cover it. I picked it up, and the insurance covered half... which was a great surprise. My thought was that I could fine tune my diet by seeing what the immediate effect of food choices and exercise were. Also, I could see if the dawn effect was actually happening to me, or if it was something else.

What did I find? I found that my meter was whacked out! The CGM was giving me readings of 20-30 points lower than my meter. I got worried I had installed in wrong, or that it wasn't accurate, so I got a second meter from the drug store in case I had to return it. Well, the new meter agreed with the CGM! I am so pleased! It was the iHealth meter that was wrong! All the changes I've made have positively effected my numbers... I'm surprised I hadn't given up without the positive correlation with effort and results, but I'm glad I didn't.

My numbers are mostly between 70 and 100 now... I'm excited to get the new A1C testing in October rather than dreading it.
