I've wandered back too! Actually it was more of a run back. I am just not having any success counting calories. I know I've had huge success with Atkins in the past. So, with my doctor's blessings, and inspite of my husband who tries to force feed me sugar, I'm back on Atkins. I'm going to stay on the Induction Phase for one month (until the 4th of July) and assess my results. It will be nice to have spark friends who support the low carb lifestyle. Let's do this!

Old home week. I wander off and wander back.

Got suck into some yogurt - just had to have it. Need to settle back down and get serious - but I really don't like tracking here - prefer Fat Secret - more helpful with net carbs.

Is it hot everywhere or just in central PA??

I JUST got back from the gym. I am worn out! I've been dragging lately --too much to do, too little time, too much stress... I slacked off a bit on my PT for 2 weeks in order to ease the stress... a 'vacation' if you will..... and boy can I feel the difference!

Don't know what it is... DD is over-stressed also.

Yes, ALLIE, EASE of the process is actually one of my goals for cycling, for exactly the reason you state. It was difficult for me to achieve all my goals and learn calorie counts and juggle amounts while keeping my carbs really low.... until I hit upon the method of planning my "menu" ONE day in advance. It is much easier too, than sitting in front of the computer all day, juggling foods and seeing if they will fit the goals I have for the day -- based upon what I have randomly eaten and am now forced to re-consider what food I should eat next.... Sure I have to practice some discipline and stick with the day's menu (or spend more time juggling on the food tracker...), but I'm not really asking too much of myself.

And typically, I do not have much of a spontaneous social life. So I can PLAN around my social plans!

I bought some new clothes at the thrift store. I found dressy linen pants and a shirt and heels that look like they were MADE for each other! And everything but the shoes was a size smaller!
emoticon
So you KNOW what I wore to church today! I felt quite stylish!

Yesterday, I put up the hammock for the season. Now I really have to get the PLANTS taken care of: put outside, put in the ground, put in pots...
And I have to pull out the camera and take pictures of the back of our property. It is beautiful. With all the rain we got last month, I've never seen it greener, nor have I seen so many wildflowers! There are giant drifts of purple and yellow... just how it happens that they are complementary colors is a mystery and a gift of nature!

Oh wow! That's such great news about the cycling/weight loss! Congrats!!! emoticon
And it's so great that you're giving away clothes--such a great feeling to lose that much weight!
I've actually had great success with cycling, too! Thanks for the reminder! I think I'll do that (rather than induction which I'm not very psyched up about to do LOL). We have to find what feels best for us; if it feels too hard we won't stick with it long term. And for me, during the warm weather lower calorie really suits me, generally. So a day or two per week of higher calorie will work.
Sorry about your leg! I hope it heals faster than expected!

THERE YOU ARE!
I know you were under a lot of stress. I was afraid you had chosen to withdraw....

I've been trying something new: cycling. I vary my calories while still doing Atkins. I've done it for 2 weeks now, and I've lost 7 lbs. This after 2 years of no net weight loss. I am thrilled to be doing something that works again! I've lost a pants size and am getting rid of too-large clothes. Woo Hoo!

My leg is a little bit better; but I will not be able to return to aerobics for another 3 months probably.

and after a LCal day, I lost only 0.2 lb. Go figure. Bu I am glad for ANY loss!

GOOD MORNING, WEEKEND! Good weekend, All of Y'all!

I am cleaning up the patio today, hanging the hammock, and planting some pots. Then I meet a friend for lunch and some serious hanging out. My meals for the day are already planned so it will be an easy day to do nutritionally (if that makes any sense!).

Surprise for me -- I lost 0.2 lbs on my HCal day! That's only 3.5 oz, but it was a LOSS instead of a gain like last time. I've no idea what the difference is. My nutritional parameters were the same for this day as they were the last time I did HCal.

Yesterday was a return to a LCal day. I lost a whole pound! I had pre-planned the entire day in advance, and that had its advantages and disadvantages. It was rigid -- I couldn't eat what/when I wanted and then "make up for it" later..... It was easy and took WAY less time on the computer since I was not constantly adjusting and re-calculating what I could eat next.

Part of my difficulty lies in the tough-to-achieve parameters I set for myself these first two weeks. I am looking forward to Monday, because then I will relax my parameters of CYCLING as I seek the easy but effective path toward weight loss.

well, I achieved all but one of my daily goals for the High-Cal cycle -- eating 1515 calories and only 14 net carbs. I DON"T feel over-stuffed today. I'll report my weight in the morning.

Hey MIBLLO! Your flax bread recipe is exactly 2 T flaxmeal and 1/2 T oil short of a LC Muffin in a Minute! I LOVE 'EM! I really notice an impact on my appetite if I eat one or a half of one, in the morning. If I eat only half, I eat the other half for lunch. The LC MIM is sturdy enough to be cut in half and toasted... For variety, I like to add a touch of salt and a sprinkle of herbs for a savory muffin, or 2 T 0-calorie syrup (DaVinci or Torani Brand flavors) to sweeten my MIM. I've started eating them quite regularly since they are so delicious and bread-like and low-carb and high-fiber. AND easy to make! I'm a cheerleader for LC MIMs!

Yesterday I did lose another half pound as a result of my 4th Low-Cal day part of cycling. Today I am on the High-Cal part of the cycle -- just 1 day. Cross your fingers!

This is an experiment for me. Mondays are the day I assess, and so I assessed, even though it seemed a bit premature. Also, a 10-day basis for a 7-day cycle is biased (towards weight loss, in this case). If I were to measure exactly these last 7 days (Tuesday to Tuesday), I have to say that I lost a half pound this last week.
While this IS an experiment, I do revise my goals daily (while working within the overall concept of cycling) to TRY to apply my brain-power towards ensuring success.

Tomorrow, I want to do 1 day of high-cal, very low-carb, but I am also dreading it. Last week, I gained 1.5 pounds during 2 days of HIGH-cal, very low-carb; and I STILL haven't lost all of that weight after 3 days of very LOW-cal. I'm afraid I will gain again! Yet I don't really know what to do. I don't want to go into starvation mode -- so I MUST eat more calories (at least 1500 calories according to one Atkins book), and barely more than that is what I ate -- yet gained 1.5 lb. in 2 days last week. And haven't lost it all after 3 days of LOW-cal.

I certainly HOPE that tomorrow morning the scale will show some net loss resulting from TODAY'S efforts; but I don't think it will be a big enough loss to cover the gain I think will happen after eating HIGH-cal. Right now I am very confused as to what I should do and how I should adjust my eating.

I posted my blog about my 10-day (so far) experimentation with low-carb but varying-calorie cycling.
Since I lost 5 pounds in 10 days, you might want to read it!

BTW, I've been unable to break through (and keep off any weight loss leading me to less than) 180 pounds for 2 years! I've been weighing less than 180 for a full week now!

Just made my latest fav recipe. Flax bread.
Flax seed is so good for you but it can only be stored for about 2 days once it's ground so no point in commercial use. Also, it only costs about $1.50 a pound at most health food stores so no money to be made there.
I grind mine in a small coffee grinder.

2 tbs of flaxseed ground finely
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 egg
1/2 tbs butter
Melt the butter in a bowl
mix the dry and add the egg and butter
beat it up well
pour into the bowl you melted the butter in and zap for 1 1/2 min.

You can cut it in half and make a burger bun. It toasts later (won't get really crisp, too much oil) for something to go with eggs.
I love it.

The sparks site has wrong numbers for the nutrition on flaxseed.
I notified them but they haven't changed it.

1 tbs whole flaxseed has
cals 55
fat 4 g
carbs 3 g
fiber 3 g
protein 1.9 g
Omega-3 2338 mg
Omega-6 606 mg
nutritiondata.self.com/facts/nut-and-see
d-products/3163/2

Talk about bang for the buck.

Hope you all have a nice holiday. It's cold and drippy here so we're gonna cocoon and watch movies.

Marian

I don't know what I'd eat if I didn't have leftovers! It really does make a difference to be able to open the fridge and have something I can eat right there ready and waiting for me...

HUGGABLE had some excellent ideas for you, GIANTS! Even in times of stress, if you have time to make yourself something, you probably can double up and make extra for later. It makes a huge difference.

Can you find time to do like a bulk cooking? Sometimes I take the time to put together food and either keep it in the refrigerator or freeze it so that I can grab it and then cook / warm it up in a microwave...or eat it cold when it is time for lunch or dinner...

Quiche and Frittatas are great grab and go breakfasts
Make salads at night and pack them to go for lunch with some protein (baked chicken, fish, or steak)
Dinner - if you have time to make one dinner make extra and feed your refrigerator.

ALSO - I love going to Pizza Hut. Their naked traditional bone in chicken wings have no carbs. They are a little expensive but that is why you go out...so you don't have to clean up. If you must have dressing ask for their nutritional information and go with the lowest carb choice you can.

Love ya lots and lots and lots Whole bunches WHOOO!!! HUGZ

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Summer arrived yesterday.... nobody told me she was coming! I was walking around in a sweater all day, for heaven's sake!

And today we are making plans to join up with the extended family and go camping around Independence Day. .... seems appropriate!

grins knowingly.... I find it helpful to WRITE IT DOWN. Somehow, that makes it more real and easier to remember. Plus it is there whenever I review my notes. HUGGABLE, you and every other female in the world! Even top-heavy me would rather have the tummy weight in my chest than any other part of my body!

I've never had a bike rack for my car. Never knew anyone that did. Never thought of that! Such a simple solution! I'll check it out!

Well, congratulations! You are the first and only person I know who is smaller than her wedding day! That is quite an accomplishment. I hope you are proud of that! Hang onto that positive feeling and use it as motivation to continue pursuing your goals!

GIANTS, I am sorry to hear of the stress and sorrows you are facing. It is a heavy load to carry under any circumstance and especially so when you are trying to change dietary habits.
I lost a childhood friend to cancer last year. It rocks your world. I will pray for him and you two.

My best direct advice to you is to stock up on protein bars, nuts, and hard-boiled eggs, and other things like bagged salad greens and pre-made celery and carrot sticks and cheese slices. Anything that works for your taste-buds and your diet, AND is the closest you can get to grab-and-go eating. I know you need nurturing and you don't have the energy to put any effort into cooking decent meals. But you have to protect yourself and your past efforts and not undo the hard work you've put in.... so get something that is EASY and that you can just reach in the fridge or pantry and eat without thinking about it -- but still is LC.

I am amazed that under the circumstances you are able to notice the difference that removing grains from your diet makes you feel. Remember that when fatigue and stress and temptation hit. You need to stay strong right now without "grains" pulling you down.

Is there anyway to get a bike rack and drive to a safe place to ride your bike? I recently cleaned out a storage shed and found my old bike rack. I am going to put it on my car and take my bike to the repair shop - have not been able to ride in years. There is a nice lake by my house down the road and across a 6 lane expressway and there are bike paths a couple miles away that I can ride WHEN I get my bike over there.

Speaking of getting smaller - I got out my wedding dress yesterday just for giggles and tried it on...I remember working so hard not to gain weight before the wedding so my dress would fit. I am now over 30 pounds less than I was 11 years ago when I was fitted for my dress...My husband was shocked by how heavy it was and that I wore it all day.

To be honest I would like to move my weight from my tummy up to my chest...I would like a bigger top and smaller waist.

Love ya lots and lots and lots Whole bunches WHOOO!!! HUGZ

MIA - very sorry. I have not abandon you all, just got lost.

Having a tough time - mostly life. My partner's brother has stage 4 cancer and it has precedence over family schedule now so no one is where they planned to be most of the time and we do what we can when we can. I was trying to get started in Yoga, but there were always emergencies that puller her away so I needed to head home for the animals.

Her brother is the greatest person, God will be getting a worthy angel.

I seem to be stuck weight loss wise, so I am going to need to settle down, reassess and get more serious. I do feel better without the grain carbs in my life. Still work to be done.

LOL!
My bike-cycling is done in front of the TV, my carb/calorie cycling is done in front of the computer and the refrigerator.
I have wanted a bike... but where I live, the community is a simple 2 mile circle. The only way out is onto a highway. And I'd have to go a mile before I'd reach another, also very busy, fast road. There are many fatalities, I think. And the cyclist always loses. I don't really want a bike while I live here.

I don't know if you are making a joke or not! When I was young, I met my mother's best friend's mother. Her chest was definitely smaller than her waist.... but she was happy. I remember that she joked she didn't WANT to lose weight because this way her face - that everyone saw all the time -- looked nice; and she could always sit behind a table and hide her lower body. Funny the things you remember...

Congratulations on becoming smaller all the time! What a big change! emoticon

Another good day! I've started trying cycling. I decided on different goals each day -- so it is much harder as I cannot simply repeat a day, but I am learning a lot and I am getting results, so far! Today is the last of the 5 days of the VLC, VLCalorie cycle, followed tomorrow by 2 days of regular LC but High Calorie Days.

I am amazed so far at the results I am getting!

I food-tracked everything BEFORE I ate it yesterday to be able to evaluate if it fit my goals for the day.

I had fat-fasted Sunday (resulted in a small weight loss which told me I was back in ketosis). For Monday, I wanted to keep my calories and carbs very low, but increase my percentage of protein consumed. I achieved my goals perfectly (resulted in another small weight loss and I am unsure what to conclude from that at this point. It is too soon.)

Today, I plan on eating similar ratios of fat/protein/carb (75/20/5) but adding in more calories (about 1100 total). If I err, I plan to err by increasing fat and decreasing protein by 5%. Of course, I hope that this action will keep off the few pounds I've lost recently, but allow me to eat more.

I am trying to be very exact in my analysis so that I can modify my diet and make some major progress. Of course, I'll keep you posted with info I think anyone else can use!

And I managed to do the whole day fat-fasting. And it did result in a minor whoosh that tells me my goal is achieved -- to use up my body's glycogen stores and get back into ketosis ASAP before my misbegotten weight latches on! I confess, the whoosh DOES make me want to continue, but I know that it would be wasted effort pursuing an illusion. So I ate a MIM first thing this morning!

For the next two days, I am going to be trying to eat low calorie/low carb. Not fat-fasting per se -- I shall eat some protein!

I like the new picture of you, LORI!

emoticon the devil made me do it! They WERE good! Ooops! I mean evil, evil carb bombs!

Yesterday, I wanted to fat-fast. I forgot that I promised to meet a friend for lunch emoticon Fortunately I remembered in the nick of time! emoticon

I didn't manage to pull off a fat-fast for the day, but I did have an EXCELLENT Induction Day.
So I am doing my fat-fasting today (Sunday). It's only been a half-day so far and already I am irritated and have an appetite. (I can't honestly say I am hungry.) This will indeed be a one-day thing!

I met a friend or Happy Hour. Haven't done that for DECADES! Drank 2 margaritas -- not a good choice carb-wise but so delicious! Doing so totally screwed up ALL my dietary goals for the day. SO I've decided to "pay" for it today. I will fat-fast for the day to try to use up as many carbs as I can as fast as I can. I hope that the extreme swing in nutrition will "confuse" my body and maybe jolt it into weight loss!
Now hold me to it! ONE day only of fat-fasting!

Oh, I had been complaining to my PT and she'd been ignoring me.... I saw my doctor yesterday and expressed my frustrations. He wrote me another PT prescription to address my concerns. Yay. I also went to the gym.

I spent yesterday evening out with a friend -- an adults-only event at the museum, learning about Venus. They served drinks and nibbles.... Now, I am no longer much of a drinker -- but I did feel "obliged" to have a drink -- which I nursed for 2 hours.... and while I did resist temptation in NOT ordering a fruity cocktail, I forgot to request DIET tonic in my gin and tonic.

Of more concern to me was the fact that I did not resist over-eating. The nibbles were an assortment of cheeses and LC fruits -- and I didn't even THINK about control since they were all acceptable foods on Atkins at stage 2. And I ate too much.

I KNOW you can over-eat even acceptable foods; why didn't I engage my BRAIN as well as my mouth? I don't think it was the drink. I think it was the stimulating social situation. I was "distracted". And the nibbles being "free" (with the price of admission) didn't help either. I need to come up with some way to remind myself to not over-eat in these types of situations because it really was a fun evening!

it always takes less time to lose the strength as opposed to gaining it - just the opposite of weight. LOL Some of it may be age (you are HARDLY a senior) and some has to do with genetics and some may have to do with the program you are using to get strong. Just stay the course and it till come.

Well, I haven't been "perfect" at achieving my dietary goals these past few days, but apparently, I've been good enough to lose the weight I had regained thanks to my Mother's Day treat -- right as I predicted -- in 4 days. I'm puzzled right now -- 'cuz I'd really like to know what I did "right"!

I did go to the gym yesterday and work for 2 hours. I am getting weak SO fast! Is this because I am now a "senior"?

wow... and you also have iron discipline!

I ate lunch and dinner out yesterday. I made great choices -- but ended up eating too much protein. I was so busy I didn't get to go to the gym; but I'm dressed and ready to leave right now!

WOW - I had made a post - don't know what happened to it.

My big CHEAT for Mother's day was ONE chocolate covered strawberry. Never had one before. Enjoyed it and no regrets.

Not much else to tell on my Mother's day.

DID YOU MAKE IT THROUGH MOTHER'S DAY? emoticon

It is a challenge isn't it? I bought myself flowers cuz I knew nobody would think of THAT. And DD, the more supportive member of my family, bought me a food (sugar) treat, and made sure I had too much food to eat for breakfast; and talked DH into us eating out at a fancy restaurant (where I'd be SURE to face more temptation than I could handle!). Sweet girl also spent her afternoon making me an LC cheesecake. That part she got right!

At least I knew it was coming. Celebrating with food is such a deeply ingrained act in the human psyche! I ate way less for 3 days. I ignored the bread on the restaurant table (my family ate 4 baskets of it!). I did order dessert. And I am still "paying" for the indulgence today. But it was a deliberate choice I made, not a spur of the moment one. I'm in control!

Upshot: a "gain" of 2 pounds which will take about 4 days to lose and then I am back where I started. DH just left on a 10 day trip; so I will be able to be very selfish and just make myself something VERY LC and healthy and simple and boring -- a crockpot meal I can eat for at least 4 days. That's my plan -- to BORE myself into weight loss!

MONDAY!! Hate it!

MARIAN - been through the TRK route myself. Are you sure your issue isn't the treadmill? Not a great alternative if you are going faster than your should as it creates a "feet slapping" effect as opposed to normal outside walking. And if that TKR is fresh - the stair climer may be a little much for it - better to use the elliptical. I only ever used the tread for walking backwards type therapy. And make sure if you are swelling that you ice that knee after every exercise session. I have some permanent type swelling (that is a foreign body in there ya know) but have very little reactive swelling.

I started Friday with the exercise. I have had two days of ST and 2 days of cardio. I am normally 6 days a week, but got sick about 6 weeks ago and just too sick to do anything so I fell off the wagon and had a hard time getting back on. I think my butt is firmly back on the wagon now.

I do a little Tae Bo, a little Les Mills, going to start Rachael Cosgrove on June 1st. So I test out some of her routines in between.

OK - off to the barn to do some work.

Yeah... I read somewhere "Don't let STARTING be what's STOPPING you!" Ain't it the truth? It is that first step that is the hardest to take!
LORI, you are doing AMAZING! How absolutely delightful to be getting compliments on having a fit toned body! Marian is right -- go take your measurements! You can't get frustrated until AFTER you take your measurements! I would think that the compliments alone would be working for you.... but I do understand the need for the scale to move regardless of anything else. Personally, I think of my knees. They are affected by the total weight I have regardless of how the weight LOOKS!

Lori;
Lets not forget that one pound of fat takes up 6 times the volume of one pound of muscle.
So measure instead of weigh if your working that much.

I never thought of the stair climber. When I first started working at the gym I was too heavy to use it. It sunk to the bottom and couldn't be moved. Maybe I'll check it out again. I was thinking of trying the eliptical too. No strain at all on the knee.

Happy Mothers Day to all.

Marian

I'm dragging my fat a-- to the gym 6 days a week. Once I get there I love it-but getting there is the challenge. I do 30 minutes of strength training 3 times a week and 30 minutes of cardio 6 times a week. Everyone is commenting on how toned my body is but the scale has been stuck this whole month of May!! I also still have wonderful tires around my tummy which are being targeted through exercise on the weight machines and stability ball. However, I am getting impatient!!! I do very little time on the bike because of my knees. I have found the amt (stair climber) has really helped my knees. emoticon

We need to team up for a 3-legged race, Marian! Between us, surely we could hang onto each other and make up for each other's limp! Finally, we'd balance!

I did water aerobics ONCE. WHAT a workout! I just don't like the whole wet hair, wet body, wet clothing, wet gym bag, wet ladies' room that the whole scene entails. Of course, that WAS in humid Texas. Maybe it would be different in much drier Colorado.

Hope you see this in time: don't just give yourself permission, spend today giving yourself LEEWAY for "going off" your diet tomorrow.

I have mixed thoughts about knee swelling. Clearly, it is bad. But to ensure that your knee doesn't swell, you MUST protect it by NOT pushing yourself. Clearly, this is bad too. Follow that path, and you become less and less and less capable of functioning.... I thought maybe I could push myself if I wear a knee brace to protect my knee. I've been told that reliance on a knee brace will allow the major muscles (the ones that are EASY to work!) to get stronger but don't allow the smaller stabilizing muscles to get worked. So wearing a knee brace actually causes the knee to de-stabilize over time. And it is precisely the lack of stability in a knee that causes those minor injurous wobbles that lead to swelling -- and falling.... It really is a trick to figure out exactly how much to push yourself, so that you RISK injury without actually injuring yourself! I've come to accept minor swelling and ice packs as an appropriate level of risk and care during recovery.

My physical therapist is sending me mixed messages right now. She seems to think I should get "normally strong" without physical therapy. I know that a person naturally compensates for what they can't do by using other muscles. We aren't able to see ourselves from the outside nor do we happen to instinctively know what muscles need to be strengthened for normal movement. That IS why PTs get a specialized education! I am unhappy with my PT right now! On the other hand, it certainly is the green light I've been waiting for to push myself much harder than I have! I've been frustrated with the pace of my recovery. Every time in the past I've asked for more (more weight or more reps or faster movements) they say I am not ready. Now I'm ready? I've been pushing myself harder (than their low standards) all along, but I don't feel stable. Or ready. Or strong. 10 years ago, when I did the same thing to my other knee, my PT didn't release me until 2 months after I felt I was ready!

Thanks Willie, I have been backing off the speed I started with. Unfortunately, swelling after knee replacement is fairly common. It's natures way of saying "don't be stupid".
emoticon

It's hard to lose the fear of falling or hurting yourself. I'm finally getting to where I can just DO some things without thinking too much or planning it. The first time I stood up out of a chair without using my hands I was so surprised I stopped dead in my tracks and then sat down and stood up again just to prove to myself I did it. emoticon

I can take the stairs one foot per step again but only if I hold on to the rail. Going up holding the left rail is ok but if I use the right rail I need to use my right knee more and that ain't happening yet. I can do it but it isn't smooth and I lurch like crazy.

Got roses yesterday for Mothers day. My son said he was afraid they'd run out of my fav color. I like the yellow ones with the red edging to each pedal. Beautiful!
I have given myself permission to go off a bit tomorrow.

MB, any chance you're pushing too much on the bike?
I've had a few pretty good injuries myself. I understand the fear, and that you can't let it stop you. But swelling after every workout sounds to me like you could think about backing off just a little. Maybe reduce the incline?
I don't mean to butt in, and I'm certainly no expert, but would you think about asking your PT about it?
Just a thought. You're doing great, you know! You really are!

The exercise part of my plan is the only place I've met my goals.
I do water aerobics Mon, Wed, and Friday. 40 min then my PT in the water. That takes another 10 min.
Tues and Thurs I do treadmill and stationary bike 10 min each and 5 weight machines. 2 sets of 20 reps. I upped my weights last week Monday and then worked back up to full sets this week. So far so good. I'm unsure if I should try upping the weight again this week or just do the regular sets and try to add some time on the treadmill and bike.
The bike is the only part I'm having trouble with. I set it for an incline and try to keep a steady pace. If I go too fast the new knee swells.
I do feel the new muscles.
When you are a messed up as I was you get very timid. Afraid of falling or hurting yourself.

Okay... off my soapbox...

Tell me your PLANS for adding exercise, GIANTS. I know you mean to do it, you really do, but you just haven't yet. So take the next step. Tell ME your start date. Tell ME your choice of exercise. Tell ME the time you will commit to it, and how you will make time for exercise.

I hope you won't hold yourself back by choosing to make exercise some sort of ordeal you have to endure. That would hold ME back, too! Instead, I urge you to start with something easy. Pack a baggie of nuts and cheese for lunch and walk instead of eating at your desk. That's at least 20 minutes right there! Just keep your speed up! And you know what? 20 minutes is a GREAT start! Just do that if nothing else!
Later, when walking is so old hat that you are actually feeling EAGER to do some more, another easy addition is 10 minutes (yup, a whole 10 minutes) to do some strength exercises as soon as you get out of bed. (Until my accident, MY feet literally hit my exercise mat on my way to my closet. I couldn't get dressed without the reminder to exercise FIRST!)

Lots of people also use bathroom breaks as a way to sneak in some exercising. I think that is clever. The trick to starting is to do what you can do when you can do it. Tie exercising into your day, with "clues" attached to normal daily functions.

Don't let "starting" be what stops you! Figure out what is easy for you and TAKE THOSE BABY STEPS! Let "exercising" happen easily until you are ready to make a bigger commitment.

Oh, and it always starts so innocuously! A few carbs here, a few carbs there --never sugar -- always something healthy like too many veggies for my system to handle. Or one too many bites of beans or pulses. Starches break down into sugar inside the body; and sugar is sugar is sugar (thank you , Shakespeare!). And the next thing I know, my syrup is pure maple heavily poured on store-bought waffles -- and then I find myself nipping sips from the jug any old time... And then I am DRIVEN to eat sugar, Sugar, SUGAR!
And it doesn't make me sweet; it makes me fat! It doesn't make me energetic; it makes me sluggish. It doesn't make me happy; it makes me ashamed.

Thanks for caring; but no thanks; I am going to stick with Atkins. For my sanity. For my health. For my self-respect!
