The stores here are much less crazy busy, except for Trader Joeís. They have a long line outside the door; they have limited the number of people inside who can shop so it does not exceed the personal distancing recommendations. We are still out of many items, but luckily fresh fruits and vegetables ( and coffee) are easily available. I am eating healthier, because I am not meeting my friends for meals out. We didnít go out often, but I turned it to overeat each time we did meet up.

I do wish I knew how long the social isolation would last. I miss being able to hike on the trails.

We did go to a senior morning at our local store. It wasn't busy and they had everything we needed. Very thankful to the store employees working so hard to keep everyone safe and fed. emoticon

Our DSIL is going to the store for us. Really thankful. We are trying to change our habits, keeping our wants and needs low. Have to confess, I am stocking up on coffee. Noone wants that day to arrive, not even the dogs! emoticon

I am glad that you were able to continue to shelter in place. I think it is wisest. I am glad that people are taking this more seriously, but it is sad that it took the governors orders for some of my friends to start flocking to the parks. Have you tried shopping at the senior hours yet,? Iíve gone couple of times.

Had a nice drive yesterday, not long though. After that marathon return from Arizona, not ready for another road trip yet! With the corona virus exploding sure feel blessed to have a listened to omens and hurried home. Feel like we beat the weather and the bug. The weather here the last days running has been mid 60s perfect out. Did get out in the yard a bit today. Felt nice.

Update: Our nephew offered to help with our friends job. Allows Dave and I to continue sheltering in place. I pushed for it, as Dave has a very compromised immune system. So thankful for kind friends and family.

A plan was needed. I see where some stores are setting special hours for seniors only to shop. Cant hurt, might help.
Our friends want a shower built, so a deal was struck. We are isolating day hours in their empty master suite next week. Just us and the tile.

Why is it during tough times, we always seem to eat healthier? True for me anyhow.

I was glad to see that Costco has implemented limits on the number of people that can shop in the store at one time. And Trader Joeís has limited purchases to know more than two of each item, and only one fully loaded cart per customer. I think that will help a lot.

My DD sent pictures from local store last night. Out of meat, bread, milk and juice. Hand sanitizers have been out for days. We stocked up on a few canned goods, TP 6 rolls and a few other items. Heck we've been playing survivor for years for fun, seems real now. emoticon
DH (and I) have been advised to stay home as A) Dave has no spleen - hence compromised immune system B) We were both sick as dogs for a few days last week. Food poisoning most probable, but not advised to visit Dr.
Dave's Mom is lockdowned in her room at assisted living in Vancouver as 2 residents tested positive.
Stay safe and well. Put your health above all else. Especially now. emoticon

So are people going nuts with panic buying of groceries and toilet paper in your area? They certainly are here. And certain items, like hand sanitizer, are nowhere to be found. I think it is reasonable to add a few extra items ( like frozen veggies) to have on hand in case you have to stay home. But I am shocked by the level of stuff that people are loading into their carts.

No to the flu shot. We are all better now. emoticon Dave and I got to help our Son at his jobsite over the weekend. We all worked both Sat and Sun. It was nice to spend time with him as he is always so busy.

Today we are back on normal pace. The floors have been tiled and Dave is building a new shower. emoticon

We've been paying attention to omens and when we should push ourselves to get home. The family here seems to think we can stay awhile longer - always. Dave and I are happily independent and know there will be a sign soon. Keeps us on task emoticon
May be our dogs telling us we are nearing time to go, they seem to have take ownership of the backyard here digging, leaping over the block walls with a garbage can assist, and barking at almost everything that moves in the hood. The next door neighbor stopped and visited with me last evening. I mentioned it to her, she says she likes us here too - the dogs don't bother her any! Brother!
The spa, the kids home, and weather ARE so nice. Yet we are nothing without a deadline - we are shooting for first part of March. emoticon

Love the snow shoes. We hiked and camped at usuary park NE of town last night. The dogs were getting cabin fever! It was a good time, we are all happy to be back here with the kids today. The floor is really looking wonderful. Next week the master shower.

Glad the tile is selected and you will be starting the project. And that you are having warm weather and good hiking trails. It is unusually warm here also, but in the 50s, not the 70s.

So nice that you have some time alone with the grandkids, and that your son and DIL get some time off.

I'm going on my annual ski trip to the Methow Valley in Washington next week. I don't think the snow conditions will be great, but it is a fun trip. And I am taking my snow shoes, so if the skiing is too icy or slushy, I will still have fun.

Hope you are all doing great!

Dave and I have convinced our kids to get out on their own two weekends in a row. It continues to be such a blessing to spend so much quality time with the grandchildren.
We all finally picked out tile for the downstairs, Dave and I will start installing the wood tile planks today. DDIL picked out a soft driftwood looking ash color. Matches all the paint and cabinets very well. Installing in a herringbone pattern. Will have to take some pix when we are complete. Should keep us out of trouble and on our knees. emoticon Other than that we continue to enjoy the 70 degree Winter, biking, walking and jogging with the dogs. Awesome trails EVERYWHERE!

Have a Sparktacular week Oregon! We'll be home soon.

Get well soon, Janey. I am glad you made it safely to Arizona. You probably need rest and recovery more than anything else.

I went outside to shovel my driveway, and a neighbor came over and did the whole thing with his bobcat snow plow. What nice neighbors I have.

Wow! We made it through the gorge in spite of 30 mile gusts all day. Image a big empty box pushing into the wind at 60 mph! Day two we opted for the coastal route to avoid the snow. We sure enjoyed the scenery all along the way to Harris beach in Brookings today.

Bright spot in Brookings. Pancho's Mexican restaurant. We met a super nice couple there who run a B&B here. We are stopping in a bit there for a cup of joe before picking up with the travels again. HaHa - they are needing some advice about tile work!

It's a warm rain here at the coast today. Our dogs got a bath just on our morning hike. Now to keep the camper clean and dry emoticon

Happy New Year! Hope you all had a great Christmas and a nice New Year celebration. I hope the Ducks can maintain their lead in the Rose Bowl

I went to visit family in California for the holiday. There was far less snow in the mountains than usual for this time of year. I hope the current storm is coating the mountains in white -- we need it!

Sorry you have freezing fog. We are having rain and wind. But I think Mt Bachelor is getting much needed snow. (our cross country ski areas are getting rain/snow mix)

Happy Holidays!

We are really heating up around here as the temp outside drops. We were gifted a pellet stove and we are now warming up our pool room, which were able to enjoy only in the Summer and when we built a fire in our wood stove. Now with the pellet stove we will enjoy playing pool and having fun with the grandkids year 'round. emoticon
The wood stove now moves to our new space and will be plenty to heat the smaller sq footage and work in conjunction with our heater installed. emoticon

Freezing fog is our latest weather, two days in.

It's warm here too, light rain. The lower ski slopes where I usually cross country ski don't have enough snow yet for skiing. Mt Bachelor should get more snow with the storm, they really need it.

Janey, thanks for the information about fishing and crabbing. I am glad that your space got insulated, and that you beat the snow storm home.

No it is not normal for Mt Bachelor to have so little snow. They should get a foot or so in the current snow storm, but they need 18 - 30 inches to operate. They do plan to open on the day after Thanksgiving, with games and scavenger hunts instead of skiing.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy your family and friends, and don't stress out too much

Dave finished insulation and got our heater working in our new space. A big milestone accomplished - emoticon Just in time for Winter weather. We looked at the forecast and decided to have our Thanksgiving fishing and camping trip a few days early. We are enjoying a warm breeze at the river for a few days then home for Thanksgiving in our apartment. Frosty is on his way, calling for weather in the teens by next weekend. This is usually followed by more cold weather in my experience. Very grateful for a warm place to be.

Another beautiful day here in Central Oregon. I went to the symphony, which was great. I don't think the ski area will be able to open for Thanksgiving; they need at least 18 inches at the base. It's too warm at Mt. Bachelor for them to even use their snow machines.

Janey, Iím with you! Itís too darn cold. Sunny and beautiful, but arctic! I know it would do me good to get out and walk, or to go into the yard and finish raking some of the many piles of leaves. But it is very hard to get motivated.

I always feel sorry for the little kids trick-or-treating when it is this cold. They have to bundle up and hide their very cute costumes. Of course, I am in a more rural neighborhood, so we donít get many kids. No sidewalks, no street lights, so it is not very enticing. I will be lucky to get one or two kids. Oh well, I am not tempted to go overboard on Halloween candy.

Oh boy! I am really having to pull out some new motivation to get out and walk! It turned so cold, so fast barely able to get my long johns out yet. Searching for my snow suit so I can stand the 15 degrees outside. Note to self - harden off! emoticon emoticon

The tent 10 x 10 attaches with straps onto the car over the top to the hood and around the wheel wells in the rear. A zipper area is next to the car so you can zip it up, detach and drive away leaving the tent behind. Real nifty!
His car was under $40K- which surprised me. His computer doesn't have all the fully self drive capabilities and free charges that some come with. - computer upgrades are available - Those models can be upwards to $100K.
Next year Musk's plan is to come out with a 4x4 pickup model. Cool huh?

emoticon Rain has subsided. It is a calm morning here at the river. Winds are forecast to pick up about noon. Probably break camp today. Dave and his brother both have fish in the cooler so, Bonus!

Here is a picture of Dick's Tesla wearing it's tent. You open the trunk, the seats fold down flat, the heater and computer aka TV can stay on all night, and the actual big tent even has an awning. Dick said it is very comfortable. If ever I am to get another car, this is one I'd choose!

Shannon - you can still drive it. We followed to dinner the other night and the car drives better than Dick! LOL

Hi everyone!

To early for snow! Something we don't see a whole lot of in Brownsville. We have been getting into the 30's and 40's overnight and the 50's and 60's during the day with rain on and off. Today was beautiful though.

Not really interested in the whole self driving cars, too scary to me. But the cost for such a long trip is awesome.

Hope you all have a fantastic week.

Janey it is amazing that your brother-in-law was able to make such a long journey for only $12. I have never been inside of a self driving car. I think it would be a very interesting experience.
Jan, I agree that they are the wave of the future.

I know it is October already. But I am not quite ready for such an abrupt end to summer! It has been very cold here in the evenings, and not too warm during the daytime. But I do like hiking better when it is cooler during the daytime hours.

My DBIL drove up from SF in his Tesla. He stopped at the charging stations along the way, drove all the way to Longview WA from SF for $12. He let the car self drive except going through the Sierras and around Mt. Shasta. The trucks whizzing by "were pretty exciting", by his words. We rode in it out to dinner - very nice ride that can really get up and scoot - no lack of power for sure! He even bought a tent attachment for it, he plans on coming fishing this week, I'll try for a picture with the tent up. emoticon

So good to hear from you Shannon. Your niece is so adorable. Hope you get to hold her soon. She needs your hugs. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Alison, we are very fortunate to be able to bike all over town without crossing any major roads. I appealed to the city for a bike trail to connect us to larger, Hermiston, they aren't quite ready for that. If I had to get there by bike or walking, I'd have to walk and it would take all day. Got planted in just the right spot I suppose. The local grocer doesn't carry many "health foods", so we make most from scratch. Thank goodness they have Greek Yogurt, whole wheat flour, dry beans, and WASA crackers! emoticon

Our income was so reduced when DH got hurt and then went through a heart attack, we had to really put on our best attitudes to keep our lives happy. Thank God for SPARK! The moon and stars really lined up as we started eating healthy and loving to exercise.

Shannon, love the photos of the new addition! What a cutie.

It would be hard for me without a car also. I live on the outskirts of town (Bend), and grocery shopping on foot would be difficult (bike would be impossible for me; I would have to cross one or more busy highways). So I've often thought that if I get to where I can't drive, I will move into a retirement community. Of course, it is easier now that we have Uber and Lyft as options!

Janey, good for you for rising to the challenge!

Hi Janey, Jan and Allison.

There would really not be a way that we could do without a car as we live in Brownsville and it is a 20-30 minute drive to anywhere. We do not have any real grocery store here in town, only a small Dari Mart and now a Dollar General, both of which don't have much in the way of healthy, just some staples. Biking to anywhere would be an all day sort of thing and I don't think my rear end would like me then, lol! When we lived in Eugene I used to ride my bike to get groceries or go to Walmart all of the time, it was a great time. Just put my backpack on and rode, so freeing!!!

I like that Janey "hunter of healthy foods" It sounds like a way to go.

I have been battling some feet issues this year so I have not really been able to get in much exercise. I am also battling the menopause thing so that is not helping either, I feel like my body hates me, lol! I try to eat healthy and most days I actually succeed but there are those days!!! Currently my weight is way to high, even for me. My doctor took some blood (I am the human pin cushion) yesterday to run some tests, but I think that it is just not being able to exercise and menopause slowing me down and making me gain. But, I don't want to dwell on the cannot's, I want to think about all of the good and happy that is and can be. I have a great life and a great husband.

Thanks for listening
Hugs to all

Groceries on a bike IS an art emoticon LOL

When DH and I started to become aware of healthy eating and changing our habits, we would limit our trips to the store. It taught us to make more food from scratch, we eliminated most processed foods and it was good plan for us. When that became habit, I started going to the store everyday as part of my exercise routine, walking or riding my bike. Most times we only need some fresh fruit or veggies and an item or two. It's now a healthy habit. Guess I've changed from a "shopper" of what sounds good to a "hunter"of healthy foods. Yay!!!

If we did not travel to the beach or own a business we had to keep supplies stocked, maybe a month at tops before I would hate to grocery shop without a car. I work about 2 miles from home so a bike would work for to and from work but groceries on a bike ?? not for me.

Have a great fishing trip

Yay! DH did it! He rebuilt our engine (it was almost new)it had a few issues and is now running well. Our camp/fish truck is ready for travel just in time for our annual Fall fishing expedition! emoticon emoticon

Most people would think it was weird not to have a car. I agree. We actually walked or biked most everywhere for about a year and one half. Then we redesigned our work truck into a camper of sorts, great for what we need.

This year, Dave's bro is camping with us for a few days. Get this, he just bought a Tesla and a tent. The tent is designed to cover the back of his car, so our camp will be very unique and stylish this year! emoticon

We've not had wheels for a few weeks. DH working on rebuilding our engine. Finally got a day out Friday, hopping back to healthy and home cooked today too! We ate leftovers yesterday. A break in the routine is necessary at times. Turkey burgers with avocado, steamed veggies and salsa today.

Yesterday I went to the Polish Festival in Portland. It is not a place to take an eating healthy lifestyle with all the food! I love pierogies (I do not know the correct spelling even google had 2 different spellings) and usually only eat them at this one time of year. The desserts were awesome so today my body will receive healthy foods!

We are staying at the mouth of the Deschutes at the State Park. The winds have been pretty strong here. Did manage to keep the dice on the table for a few rounds of Yahtzee!

Our Son is going to Rufus, the location of Biggs Jasper, today. The museum is a house mentioned in a book of good rock locations from years back. Matt has been in contact with the family and they've invited him in. Dave's still fishing and it's a hike with the dogs for me.

We canceled our first camping trip of the season (to the Ochocos) because of thunderstorms and rain. That was a week ago, and now the weather is beautiful again.
