Happy Birthday Jeannie.

Oh my I have been reading about giving up. Don't let that happen. We all feel like giving up at times. You just have to put one foot in front of the other and move on. Oh each and every step can be hard. But think of the reward. We can all do this if we put our minds to it.

I bought a Wii fit for the Wii today. Looks like it might be fun. Hope so. I know it will help me with strengthing my knees and help with my balance. My balance is so bad emoticon

I had a good day with exercise
30 min pool exercise
30 min of walking
60 min total emoticon

I hope you all have a wonderful night.

I'm beginning to feel that frustration that I have been without progress for a year or more. It's happened before and the result was very ugly--I gained back everything I had lost plus a lot more. I am going to make very sure that I don't do that again, it's been three years of having lost the bulk of the weight.

So I am just going to work on continuing to eat well and exercise, exercise, exercise!

Thank you everyone for the support. I'm going to keep at it. I have to say my strength in my legs and arms is getting better. Onward and upward. (but not the scale)

Happy Birthday, Jeanine!!!

I agree with Kat. DON'T ever give up. I've been stuck at my current weight for over a year and I've gained/lost 5 lbs constantly. I know that I'm excerising, eating healthy and that is what matters. Keep doing what you are doing and it will go away!! After all, what we are looking for here is a healthy life.

JUDITH:

Don't, don't, don't give up! That is one area on this journey that I have finally got down deep. I absolutely can not afford to give up. No matter what the scale shows, no matter how many times I lose the same 5-lbs, giving up is no longer an option for me. You give up, and where will you end up? Think about that one. Where I will end up, if I give up, is my driving force now.

Just got back from grocery shopping and was soooo hungry. Ate a light lunch and now I'm back to putting everything away. Then, after lunch settles, my last of 4 sessions of cardio for this "spark week".

Have a great Saturday!

Vent away!!! I know the feeling. Been off program and not on the sites as I have been so busy with life in general. Next month my son gets married and I am at square one. Anyway, this month I am gonna dig in deep and start to get more active.
Anyone up for the challenge?? Cool here in Wisconsin this morning. Might as well put away my summer clothes and bring out the sweatshirts....
Hope to keep in touch with everyone on a more regular basis. LOretta

Hi Everyone, I'm about ready to stop dieting. I've been on this diet for about a month now. I lost 4 pounds and have gained back three. I've stayed in my calorie range and am working out. I'm getting very discouraged. I want to loose 20 pounds to see if I can get off my blood pressure medicine. Sorry,Just needed to vent. emoticon

Wow, DELINNH, that's amazing!! So glad that you're able to do so much...you're my inspiration! I look forward to cardio, but dread strength training. I know that I have to do it and I'm working on the right mind set for it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thank goodness, we have had a break in the 100 degree heat this week. It is very pleasant.

I am just not feeling it today--the day has flown by, even though I have gotten relatively little done, but I just feel a bit out of it, so I am sitting back and relaxing.

Thank You all for the welcome. I am so excited to be here with a positive attitude. Having these knees replaced is the best thing I have done in a long time. I actually worked out in the yard for an hour and a half this morning. Before I had all I could do to water the darn flowers. So I have some exercise in already today.

Yesterday I had physical therapy. It was a workout for an hour. Stairs--tread mill--bike...

I'll be back

Just a quick fly by to say hello. Woke up to a thunderboomer this morning. Lots of nice rain. It has since cleared up. Still, very humid out!

I've got to finish my grocery shopping list (shopping Sat morning, early) and some other "to-do's". I need to get some stuff done around here before they come lay the tile starting Monday.

I think I dropped off the list for this and a couple other chats. Gotta fix it.

On tracking, I have gotten so accustomed to doing it that it doesn't take too long and I do feel that it keeps me honest. I very rarely eat out--more because of finances since I'm laid off but because of the calories, too. On those rare occasions when I do go out, I am prepared that I will be going over my range, but I agree that once in a while is not the end of the world.

Nancy & Delphina!

Christa,
Glad you had a wonderful meal. And yep, a special occasion (or not so much special once in a while!) is to be enjoyed, not stressing over every bite. I'm glad you and your hubby did just that, enjoyed.

Just dropped by after logging my calories so far today. The rest of the day is out. I'm heading for a nap, and then work tonight.

I'm proud of myself this week *bowing* for having met almost all my "Other Goals" in the exercise category. All I have left to complete is one more day of cardio! Feels so good.

Welcome, Delphina & Nancy!! Glad to have aboard. We are a "crazy" bunch of ladies.

Christa, I wouldn't worry about one meal. On Thursdays, I go to our Historical Society's museum and we always go to this little place to eat lunch. I know that what I eat is off the chart but it is only one meal and I intend to enjoy it. Today I had a breaded tenderloin sandwich. It wasn't all that much and I wasn't stuffed afterward. Besides I walked all over that museum after I ate!!! See, I can rationalize anything!!!!

Hello again!

Christa, thank you for your welcome and I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself last night. It's all about balance. You can never beat yourself up over what you've eaten because it's counter productive...just enjoy it for the moment and know that's what it was...a moment. Then just get back on track.

Delphina, welcome! Happy to hear that you're taking positive steps toward your goals.

Kay, thank you for the suggestion. I'm familiar with WW and it's a wonderful program...I'll keep it in mind. For now he seems to be a little more aware of his activity and food intake...outside constantly walking or riding his bike and asking how much of things he should be eating. He has a great attitude about himself and life in general which I admire. He wants to trim down for himself.

Thanks again!

Make each day count!

Good afternoon everyone.
Delphina & Nancy Welcome to our group. So nice to meet new people.

Busywife&mom, Maybe it would be better for your son to join weight watchers online for awhile. It's $30 to sign up and $16 a month but their points system is real easy to use. Once you are a member you can print the points menu out. It gives you all the foods and portions then you get a certain amount of points for each food you eat. You put in your height and weight, sex and some other information and it tells you how many points you can have each day. It's much easier to keep track of than calories.

Welcome Nancy. Always nice to seen new people on.

Kat, I think I will leave the chicken nuggets alone. Wow!! That's amazing. I'd have never thought the carbs and fat would be so high.

Thank you all for your good wishes yesterday. We had a very nice time. Of course, I'm not counting the calories for yesterday. That would be scary. emoticon We went to Henry's Louisiana Grill. I'm not much for seafood, so I had steak. Oh, it was soooooooo good. I had Cesar salad, that was to die for. Their corn bread melted in my mouth. It was wonderful, but way above what I should have eaten calorie wise. But it was just one day, and I don't think I'll beat myself up over what I ate. Everything in moderation, right?

Hope you all have a wonderful afternoon. Take care.

Good morning! My first "real" message on here since I just joined SP and the group this week. It will take me a while to get the hang of things in the group forum. So much on this site that I find I'm spending all day looking around it! Not much good for exercising which is my Achilles heel!

As for calorie counting, Kat, I must say that I love this site for that, but understand your frustration with it. For me, I kind of have a "go to" breakfast or lunch each day, one that I enjoy and am comfortable with so that I have what I need on hand and there isn't much thinking involved. Eating out is definitely a challenge, but I try to stay away from the fatty, deep fried stuff. Wow...what an eye opener your Wendy's meal was! YIKES!! emoticon

My son is struggling with his weight, which is how I found this site. However, being 13 he's not really into tracking anything, so I told him to just be aware of his portions and his activity. He's a good kid and is really trying, especially since he has to have a physical on Aug 25 for school. So I really think that portion size is key. Do whatever works for you because if it feels too much like additional work in our already busy lives then we'll just lose the SPARK and give up. One day at a time!

Have a great day, everyone!

Nancy

Good morning from HUMID Crestview FL. It's "wear the weather day!"

Just a quick hello this morning. It's Thursday so I try not to spend to much time on the computer.

On the subject of calorie counting. I've decided ("Oh boy, here she goes! *laughing*) to just do the best I can with it. I'm kind of taking Pat's approach. At least get my breakfast, lunch and snacks logged. That way I have an idea where I stand by the end of the day. If there is time, I'll do it all. On the days I can't, I can't. I'm keeping it simple and stress free. I also will look up foods I'm not sure of. I'll share something on that in a bit. And I will not be part of any more challenges that involve reporting my daily intake. I simply get frustrated and feel guilty on the days I either go over, or don't have the time to do it. So, there, keep it simple and I'll be just fine! *smile*

On looking up something I'm not sure of. On the way back from cleaning Tuesday mom and I stopped in Wendys. I decided to try their new sweet and spicy asian chicken. When I F-I-N-A-L-L-Y found it on the web I almost fainted right on my desk top! Check it out:

Calories (small order): 530 (about 6 nuggets)
Carbs: *Take a deep breath!* 67!!!!
Fat: *Take deep breath #2!* 36!!!
Protein: *The only redeeming factor!* 31

The carbs alone caused me to get dizzy and then the fat grams!!!! So, the nutrition counters here and on other sites are good. I just have to keep it all in perspective.

Must run.....

CATCHCHRIST - Happy Anniversary!!!

Kat & Lilygal - I ditto the counting calories drudgery. It's a lot easier when you eat at home to count but eating out gets harder. Someone at SP told me to buy "The Complete Book of Food Counts". I got a copy and it helps to track a lot of foods prepared at home and eaten out.

Even though I hate tracking my meals, its the #1 tool that helped me to loose the weight I needed to and get my cholesterol numbers back to where they should be. I've only been doing this for 3 months so I hope I can stay motivated to continue doing it.

Hope

Kat, you hit the nail on the head!!! I got to the point that I hated going out to eat. It was such a pain!! Now I just watch portions and I do track (try) one meal a day. I do weigh my portions here at home. I've gotten away from sugar. I'm not munching on peppermints and adding too much sugar to my oatmeal in the morning. I'm also careful about natural sugar in fruits. Most of that is hard on my system due to the Crohn's.

Good morning all. Today is a good day. My son started his new job. I am happy that the time he goes in is always the same. However, I wasn't happy that I had to get out of bed at 5:30 to take him. lol Small price to pay I guess. Also, it is our wedding anniversary. Hubby is being so sweet. He gave me roses and we are going out to eat also. However it will be early because he has to fly this evening. That okay too. Went to phy. therapy this morning. I think they are going to let me go again. Not because I'm better, but because they don't know what more they can do to help. I am starting to feel more sorry for them, then myself. lol I saw where you were talking about counting calories. I do count mine. But do it first thing in the morning. That way I know from the start and can adjust, and not worry about it the rest of the day. Isn't it funny how each person finds just what is right for them and it works. I've gotten so many ideas from reading your post and so much support. I love this group. Have a good day.

Just thought I'd comment on something today.

If muscle weighs more than fat and if we all loose muscle after 40 and have put on extra fat after hitting menopause why don't we all weigh less?

Good morning from Crestview.

I didn't sleep good last night. Finally got up around 1-ish and got on the puter for a few minutes. I had read in Prevention when you have a restless night to get up for a few minutes, walk around and try again. In my case, I just went on the computer. It's suppose to break the thinking cycle. It worked.

How many of you count your calories here at SP? Or anywhere else for that matter? I find this my BIGGEST battle. I simply hate doing it. I hate the time it takes. That was one of the things I typed on the computer when I got up. "I hate counting calories!" *laugh* And, boy, I was not alone. This is one of the things I found on my search.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Zhn4OZZywE

My feelings exactly! Except, I don't consider myself having an eating disorder. I've decided to drop doing it (AGAIN! *laugh*). Just change my name to "LUCY" (Charle Browns). I'll only use the feature if I'm unsure of something. Like the Wendys new sweet & spicy chicken I ate yesterday. OM!!! Counting calories consumes so much of my time, and then next thing I've noticed happening, it starts consuming my thoughts. To the point I can't even enjoy going out with family or friends because of "where" we might eat. I'm over it. I'm going back to watching my portions and staying away from those items I KNOW are high cal/fat. Exercise will be my main focus. Heck, if I wasn't on the computer so much logging calories, I'd be doing more exercise.
And PAT, before I started back to doing the calorie counting, I was not doing the scale either!

I've got such a to-do list today, and sitting here on my computer is not getting it done!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

TTFN!

HMOONLIGHT, thank you for the weather from HI! It makes it a little easier to tolerate SoCal heat knowing that it's even hotter in Hawaii!

Kat, sorry about the weight but a couple of pounds could just be a normal fluctuation, so don't sweat it.

And--I wish I had your get up and go; every night I make all kinds of plans for the next day's activities, and then when I get up I generally feel too overwhelmed to even start! I try to keep my plans to small increments or else nothing would get done!

Kat, I feel for you with the weigh-in. I just do not get on the scales any more. I'm up and down so much it's ridiculous!!! So if my clothes fit, I'm OK!
It is a beautiful day here but I've been in the house cleaning and baking again. I think that after I get these cookies baked, I'll take a book and go out to the patio!!!

Good morning from Crestview FL.

A short fly by this morning. I'm going to do my Pilates and then head out to Bluewater Bay (45 min drive) to clean a townhouse I use to do. The people that owned it called me (they now live in Alabama) and asked if I would spruce it up. They recently put it on the market. If it wasn't them, I would have said no. But, they are dear people that I use to clean for weekly. Best people I ever worked for. I dread the stair though. Its one of those LARGE townhomes where every section is a different level. 4 flights of stairs. *ugh* Speaking of hips Pat, this place always does a number on mine.

JEANINE:
I'm on high speed internet and most times SP hangs up on me. Like you, it takes the enjoyment out of it.

PAT:
Looking forward to your garden pictures. We have been having so much humidity that it is doing a number on my roses.
emoticon

BARBARA:
Absolutely understand about one exercise cancelling out another. I haven't had the chance, but would like to see if the "Aussies" have a DVD you can purchase.

Ok, not really a fly by, more like a blimp by. Speaking of....I stepped on the scale this morning only to see that it went up 3-lbs. *sigh* Some days its just so discouraging.

Hello, everyone!! Yes, I'm still around!! Went to physical therapy for my hip this morning. Turns out that my right pelvic bone is "higher" than my left which makes me compensate for it and causes my left hip to hurt. She "worked" me over and gave me excerises to do here but I still have to go back for 4 wks. She told me that I could still do all that I was doing except for certain excerises.
We had a very productive weekend working in the garden. It rained here on Sat. so I didn't go for a walk but worked 4 hrs (off & on) in the yard. I'm going to take some pics and try to get them posted.

Thanks for the links, Kat--love the Aussie accent. I do the downward dog--at least a version of it--for my stetch. I need to do more of the second one. I have this aversion to getting down on the floor--I think it comes from the days before I lost weight and it was so painful to get down and then up again.

Part of my problem is that I have a long standing injury to my left leg which complicates everything. I keep searching to ways to help and have found a few stretches, but I think the stretch for one problem cancels out the improvement for the other problem, if that makes sense! I will jsut keeping plowing along.....

I just couldn't make myself go out yesterday morning but I got to the gym today and worked very hard.

Good morning from Crestview FL. Sunny and presently 71. Boy did we have a boomer of a storm yesterday. It didn't last long, about 30 minutes, but it came in like a lion. The gardens and yard needed it. And it cooled things down a bit.

I got an early start this morning. I have so much to accomplish today. And getting my exercise is number 1! Two days without any. Yikes! It was just one of those kind of weekends. I'm going to have to do something a little different on the weekends I "KNOW" are going to be busy. Like, get on the treadmill first thing instead of trying to stick with "planned" exercise. Even if getting on the treadmill while I'm still sleeping! *laugh*

I'm going to leave these thoughts with you today. I get daily inspirations in my e-mail and some are really, well....inspiring!

Have a great week everyone!

Hi all from soggy LI! We had a beatiful day yesterday and spent it out on the water fishing. Caught some nice fluke (like flounder), but none were keepers so no fresh fish for dinner. Today has been very foggy, yucky humid and just not good in general. Wanted to go for a walk this morning but it was storming. Anyway, hopeful things will perk up as the week goes on. Heck, I could just as easily be sitting at home for all I've accomplished here!!

Getting late, so will sign off for tonite. Will check back in tomorrow.

Hello everyone. I thought it was time I jumped back in here. I have finally gotten over my ear infection and the rash I had on my hands. I saw this morning that they were trying really hard to break out again. Hoping not. I have some personal problems that also kept me away. Those will not go away anytime soon, I'm sorry to say. But I am trying to see the blessings instead of the darker side of it. This will take time. The stress just go the better of me, and kicked my feet out from underneath me. But, I am going to try and post as much as I can. I need to keep myself strong, so I can deal. Hope you are are doing well. I've missed being on, and all of you.

Good morning from warm and humid Crestview FL.

I woke this morning feeling so sluggish. My wedding ring is so tight I took it off. I must have eaten something at lunch yesterday that my body is rebelling against. I had grilled Mahi-mahi and grilled vegetables (oriental) so it must have been in the seasoning. I'm really pumping the H20 today. Exercise today is going to be a real "EFFORT"!

TAMARA:
Prayers being sent on your behalf. I hope that the diagnosis is wrong.

BARBARA:
I forgot to mention about an article I read on pre-run/walk stretching. The day that my hamstrings were so tight and hurt so bad I did some checking on the net. Turns out quite a few people have the same problem. It is recommended that you do stretching before and after. I don't know if you are familar with the yoga pose, "Downward Facing Dog", but it is one of the best for stretching your hamstrings. And one, recommended BEFORE running/walking workout.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKx-LPTtvBQ&
fe
ature=related

I love doing the downward dog. Feels so good!

And this one also, "Lying Hamstring Stretch".
I like doing both of these for hamstring stretching. And, if you are really tight, the "Lying Hamstring Stretch" can be done with a towel or stretchie band.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdbfauEL0O0

There you go, I've saved you a trip to the library. *smile*

JEANINE:
I would love to lose beyond the same 3-5 lbs I've been losing the last 6 months! I'm trying harder with the nutrition end of it right now.

At lunch yesterday I saw some friends I have not seen in some time. They all remarked on the fact that I had lost weight. Of course, I'm wondering "where"????? One lady asked me she could tell that I lift weights because my arms were so toned. I happily took the compliments. At least something is working. I may not see, but others do. I have to press on.

Have a great Sunday!

Hello everyone! I got lost for a few days - sometimes I wonder what the heck I've been doing that I get so busy! Oh, well, at least exercise is one of the things I remember!!

I'll check the tracker and see what it gives me. I thought that range seemed low for maintenance.

Kat, I will see if I can get that DVD at the library--maybe that will get me to go there. I have not had success with DVDs in general and I am not spending any money right now. IT seems as though every time I try to do stretches, I end up hurting worse! In fact, I skipped the gym this morning because my leg was giving me fits last night. It may just be because I am trying to work harder on the treadmill, and it might be "growing pains" getting used to it.

Well, here it is 2p.m. and I'm just getting to this tread. The weather here is just beautiful!!!
We took the gds shopping last night to get school uniforms!! It was a hoot!! Totally enjoyed it.
I am getting ready to go to my friend's quilt shop to work. She is having a PJ Party! If you come in in your pjs, you get an extra discount. We'll have food, games, prizes, etc. Should be lots of fun. Runs from 5-10 tonight. I should sleep good tonight!! See ya' all tomorrow.

Good morning from Crestview FL! It's 85 and sunny. I'm afraid our "normal" summer temps and humidity is back. Oh well, the record lows were nice while they lasted.

BARBARA:
I have the same problem with my hamstrings. Especially if I run on the treadmill. I have a wonderful stretch routine by Denise Austin. I've set it up as one of my "Other Goals" here at SP to do it 3 days a week. It has really been making a difference.

For anyone that is interested, it is a total body stretch from Denise Austins Personal Trainer DVD.
www.collagevideo.com/workout-video/d
en
ise-austins-personal-training-systemR>-7394

It's only 10 minutes and it feels wonderful when you get done.

Time to scoot. I've got a plant to transplant, and some other outdoor stuff to do before it gets hotter. Then exercise.

Have a great Friday, and also a great weekend!

The monsoons have been hanging around Arizona all week. Grey skies with a flash flood warning. Already 90 degrees at 8am. Here's hoping the sun will come out long enough to burn the clouds away.

Hope

Hi everyone - another sunny day in usually-rainy Vancouver BC! Quick - it's summer!!
I seem to be at a bit of a standstill - not gaining (good!), but not losing either . . . and really, I don't want to stay at this weight for the rest of my years! ...sigh... I was away for about 2 weeks on several short trips, and I'm out of my routine, too. Another day, another day, another day.
Cheers - Celia

Good Morning Team, A little chilly this Morning so unlike any July I can remember..But anyway...I finally managed to stay with in my calorie range yesterday...and if I can maintain that for at least a week I am sure I will see the scale move again...I am going to push harder..I really do not want to resort to diet pills to help with my eating....Blaa,Blaa Blaa..anyway..Have a wonderful and safe trip enjoy the island...hugs,Jeanine

Barbara, that sounds like a good range, but it's really all dependent upon your level of activity. If you go to the Fitness Tracker and plug in what you plan to burn, ie; cardio, calories, then you'll enter weight, height and some other info, it will then give you your calorie range. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the "happy trails" everyone. Looks like we may get just a small percentage chance of rain for the week we're gone, but it won't matter, we'll still have a good time. Hoping there will be WiFi there so I can check in, especially to keep track of my eating and fitness, they're so important to maintaining my goals.

I was weighed at my gyno office today, w/clothing, and it was 147.8. So, when I got home, I checked my new scale and it is 3 lbs. heavy. So then, took off all my clothing and got my real weight, hooray 145.4. I just knew I had to be making some progress and I have, woohoo!

I'll chat with you all as I can.

Kathy in NY and FL

OK, so I am hoping that I am doing something wrong here. Iwas trying to figure out what my calorie range for maintaining would be so I can really try to stay under it, and using the little BMR/Harris Benedict equation info I had cut out of the paper a while ago, my range is so low that if I try to carry a calorie deficit, I will definitely force my body into starvation mode. The maintenance range came out to be 1300-1500 calories which really sounds low to me.

I know there was a place on the SP site that had info on that, but of course, I can't find it now. Any thoughts?

Good morning! We had a beautiful cool morning and I got some yard work done early! I also got up at the crack of dawn which isn't like me at all! I'm a night owl! I didn't even get to bed until 12:30 last night - don't know what was going on but I was up and raring to go! Hope it doesn't happen too often!

A quick hello to everyone this morning. And a "happy trails" to Kathy. Enjoy yourself!

I'm happy to say I'm back down to 145 (145.4). Which is where I was last month. It happens every time I use the nutrition tracker. You think I would "GET IT". I'm doing something a little different this time as well, keeping my daily calorie deficit 500 under my total daily expenditure.

I must run. Its Thursday and before you know it I'll be going to work tonight. *sigh* Light cardio and light weights this morning. I've finally figured out that I can't do heavy workouts on Thursdays anymore. Gee, I'm still learning things!

Good morning, everyone!! It rained ALL day yesterday! We had about 2". So Kathy, it's probably headed your way!! Sorry! It's not nice here today either. Cool, gloomy, etc. I'm dragging again today. I really think it is this weather. I'm going to the museum today and then taking the granddaughters to buy uniforms for school. Neither one has any that fit. Growing can be a pain!! Even at our age!! Hope it is sun shining where you are.

Guess I missed yesterday, but caught up with all of you anyway.

Lovely day here but more rain heading our way. Just hope it gives us a break while we are out in the Hamptons. Being out on an island (even tho it's Long Island)means more chance of rain, but we could get really lucky and it'll go to Conn. instead!

Welcome to Antninny, be sure and set up your Spark Page too so we can visit and find out more about you. Please ask questions if you need, that's what we're all here for and we've all, "been there and done that" when it comes to getting started.

Tomorrow promises to be a busy day, packing, running last minute errands, etc. We leave Fri. morning and should be out there sometime near noon, that's providing we don't run into any major traffic near NYC. Anyway, I'll check in tomorrow and hopefully from there too.

Have a pleasant evening everyone.

We're finally getting a break from the excessive heat wave we had last week (around 118-120) It was around 105 at 11 when I went to water aerobics.
