BE-RADIANT - Oh you poor thing and your poor puppy! I hope the dog didn't get it in the eyes. I've been through that and it is NO FUN! I took the dog to a groomer the following morning and they used some shampoo that has an enzyme to kill the stink, but it was $15.00 for one bottle of shampoo! I had to stop putting out dry cat food for a neighborhood stray because it turns out that cat food is a major attractant of skunks. I was effectively inviting the skunk into my back yard! Continue to take care and let's hope the skunk moves on to another area.

Di- I exercise when I can. And I am realistic and honest about it. If I can't exercise due to chaos then I will do it later that day when it settles down. And vice versa. I aim to be as consistent as possible and I don't beat myself up for missed days.

Onicam-If you are having trouble managing your own diet, turn on the sparkmeal plans and let spark manage your meals for you. I can't always afford to buy the foods they suggest but I like that it gives me the option of switching out foods I don't like or switching out whole different meals. I use their meal plans as a guide when I feel out of control. I may not due it perfectly but anything is better than letting my hunger dictate how I live my life. I have discovered that if you are really craving sweets, you might actually be craving fruit! Natural sugars in fruits are good for you. They give you power and energy. Excessive fruit intake might make you sick and probably isn't good if you are diabetic but it sure beats eating a piece of chocolate cake or candy that has absolutely NO nutritional value at all. You can do this hun! Stop telling yourself that you can't. I have faith in you.

BE_RADIANT-I am proud of you! Whether your proud of yourself or not! What a great dog owner you are taking care of your dog before you take care of yourself! :)

~~~~~~~~~
I have been diving inward working through alot of my hurdles and pitfalls. I realized years ago that so much of the resistance to my healthy lifestyle is mental blockage. So I have been reading eye opening books and really getting to know myself on a deep level. I think I dislodged something big the other day and I have come to the conclusion that I need to stop fighting who I am and accept myself as me. Not this stubborn donkey me. But the me I keep hidden really well for fear of getting hurt. Realizing this has really helped me to realize what my purpose is, what my goals authentically are, how I can actually conceivably get there and alot more. I feel open to the process right now which is a good thing.
I have been eating within balance all day long but the closer I get to bed time the more restless I begin to get because I didn't get done everything I had wanted to get done during the day. So then I try to squeeze it all in, and hop from one thing to the next, and eat out of the anxiety that I am creating. I have been fighting this running out of time feeling for a few weeks now. I don't get it. I know tomorrow is another day so why the need to squeeze it all in.
I have been getting in my workouts pretty regularly and I am still thoroughly enjoying zumba. I have lost 1.5 inches but my weight is still maintaining but that is good. That means I gained muscle so if I could just get this night eating under control I might actually see a loss soon.
I hope you are all doing well. Take care! And please keep checking in with us!
A skunk?!? Oh no... I have 4 dogs and thankfully none of them have been within 10ft of a skunk.
So I am wondering something. Do you get your workouts done in the early morning (before work) or catch them later in the day? I really WANT to do it in the morning, but that snooze button and the thought of another hour of my snuggly down comforter compells me to put it off. Then on nights like tonight, where I won't be home until late, I end up skipping. Anybody have any tips on how to make myself a morning workout gal?
Aaaaalmost made it to the end of a 'proud of me' day, until my Dog got sprayed by a skunk 10 min before my scheduled workout (11 pm), so... spent the rest of the remaining day and the beginning of today fixing skunk damage.
High hopes for today, though!! Cheers to all and wishing a radiant middle of the week! emoticon
Thanks for the encouragement CHICKY. I've been doing just that for the past 18 years and I've bitten my tongue so many times I'm surprised I haven't taken half of it off at times. But so far this weekend all is going well and we even shared a bottle of wine on the deck last night. I did, however, have to tell her 2ce that she needed to let go and stop talking about/bashing her ex - after all it has been 6 yrs since the divorce and 8 since they split.
She is a teacher and has that "teacher attitude" where she treats everyone like the 5th graders she teaches. I've spoken with her about it on many occasions but she continues.
So, a positive attribute - well, she did bring her youngest daughter to visit her grandpa and she is participating in the aftermeal cleanups.
Hosting my step daughter and her youngest daughter for the weekend. They came to surprise hubby but did ask me first. So far, so good, but this is the SD that I find very tiring and trying emotionally. But we are family and I must make the best of it for hubby.
Trying to eat light today so I can enjoy my mom's birthday dinner and not feel stressed. I know I'll go over on my calories anyway, likely, but I also don't want to deprive myself, then end up bingeing off other peoples plates, or worse, desserts! I know I can do this.
Determined CHicky - have you tried Petfinder.com? That's where we found the rescue group that we ended up getting our big guy from! You could also try Googling basset hound rescue groups Your State and see what comes up. Oncve upon a time I had a roommate whose boyfriend had a bassett. He stayed with us all the time. He was super sweet, but oh, the drool! Drool and hardwood floors and barefeet at 6 am do not mix! LOL!
edited to add: I did a quick Google search,a nd this was the first site that popped up. It may be worth looking at. www.dailydrool.com/rescue.html
Gosh - sometimes I wish life would be a little less trying for all of us! This has been a time of trials for me, too. We had a hail storm about two weeks ago that tore up my vegetable garden and my roof and gutters. Thank goodness for homeowners insurance! Accidentally left my purse on public transit coming to work Monday and some little creep stole all the money and then had the nerve to leave a note with her name and phone number! She tried to tell me some teenagers took the cash and she found the purse AFTER the money was taken, but there was a video camera and the recording tells a different story! I am out $50.00 I really didn't have to lose and overtired and its going to be a HOT weekend and I'm just feeling kind of lazy right now. Hope everyone has a super weekend and I wish you all the best. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
Today I am desperately searching online to find a wonderful basset hound dog or puppy to come join us in our home. Our house is so empty without puppy breath and paws. We are even willing to take a bonded pair of puppy/dogs if possible. We just have so much love to give here. MIL's favorite dog is basset hound. She had one that she loved dearly that passed away and she misses her terribly. And now that MIL is sick and we don't know how many healthy years she has left, we just want her to be surrounded with her favorite things. And Grammy asks for her puppy everyday because she can't remember that she passed away so it would just be so nice to have the companionship here for the both of them. And of course my kids would go crazy to have a dog or dogs again. We had to give our beloved black lab Frodo away to a good home when we lost our home. So all of our hearts are bleeding for some puppy love. I have responded to about 6 ads at shelters and breeders so far. Sadly we do not have any in our area so I may need to leave the state to go bring our new family member home.
I have eaten well so far today. I just have no motivation to get off this chair and do my workout. Trying to force myself to get moving.
I stepped up my game today and walked 5 miles and 25 butterfly kicks, 30 jumping jacks, 52 push up's, and 35 minutes on my Wii. I took time to blog last night and it was positive to uplift my own spirits and it did just that. When I focus on my positives within my life to realize that I am still accomplishing positive things. I need to thank this team for everything it has seriously made the difference in my life!
I have been pulling away from my responsibilities again. Not really wanting to be accountable. Not really off track just not exactly on it either. I have been watching my mail though and haven't seen any new members popping in.
How is everyone here?? What do you all do to stay accountable?
My favorite vegetable is onion. I LOVE onion! Oh an tomatoes! lol
Oh, Chicky, sorry to hear that, but if I may be so bold and say that while it was a terrible thing to happen, and we know it was not a deliberate act, that there are so many other things that could happen that are far worse in life. Objects can be refinished/replaced but loved ones? They are priceless.
My kids got nail polish remover on MIL's brand new kitchen table. To say that things are uncomfortably silent right now would be putting things mildly. I don't have money to replace it. Neither does MIL. Just plain discouraging....you work and work and work to save money for something nice and then in one quick instant, it can be destroyed. emoticon
I ate within calories today. Ate all 5 freggies and 4 waters so far. No workouts on Sundays.
Just a quick note to say that John is home after a whirlwind week.
He had his heart attack Monday evening, was given the clot busting (TNK) drug in a timely fashion which seemed to do the trick. After 24 hour observation in ICU he was transferred to a cardiac centre 2 hours away on Wednesday morning. Within the hour of his arrival he was take to the OR and had a stent placed in his circumflex artery. The cardiologist evaluated John's condition that evening and released him to go home the next day!
He has been very good about following orders, taking meds and reading to learn as much as he can about his condition. The next few weeks will tell the tale, but so far everything looks really, really positive.
Once again, I cannot thank my SparkFamily enough for all your support, prayers, inspiration and positive energies sent our way. I know it made a huge difference.
Hi everyone. sorry I haven't been around much. I have hit this rough spot where I am so unbelievably irritable and grouchy. I just want to be alone. the sound of the kids makes me bonkers...I am sleeping way more than normal. No clue what is up but trust me I am making everyone here crazy cause I am us an *itch. The only real thing I can think of is the reduction of caffeine which I kinda did all on my own without trying...I am down to 1-2 cups a day as opposed to the 4-6 I was drinking. Plus I cut down sugar and I am not getting enough fiber. Ya I can see how all those things can make someone downright miserable. But bah how do I get it to stop already.
So far the hypnosis is working, but I do need to figure out what I need to do when I am on my cruise from Saturday-Wednesday. The main reason I think this way is that our dinner time will be at 8:30 pm for all of those days if I eat at the dining hall which may be happening, but I am not sure.
Jen - I love your post about commitment. What I already know seems to jump fore-front when reading your dilemma. I think that you and all of the team leaders do a wonderful job!!
I am really trying hard to commit myself to staying on track so that I can start losing weight. I have struggled way too long with this and it is now time to take charge and do something different - something that works!! I have been watching my intake and exercising as much as possible. Honestly, I either consume too much or make unhealthy choices once or twice a week. Maybe it's more frequent than that but I really don't think so.
I have a friend who was very successful with Weight Watchers and she ate very healthy during the week and then binged on weekends - I mean she really binged!! I know that we are all different and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for the other but it doesn't make it any easier to watch. My new plan is to stay on track everyday for an entire month - let's see if that works!!!
APRIL
Work as if it was your first day.
Forgive as soon as possible.
Love without boundaries.
Laugh without control
and never stop smiling.
Just wanted to share:
At the beginning of July, when Tx. Patricia invited me to be a co-leader, I was ecstatic to be recognized and looked forward to the challenge. My responsibilities were laid out and two of them being that I welcome all the new members and keep things lively here on chat.
Well, I have to confess that when one is SPARKED and motivated it is VERY easy to spread that spark and share. I found it so EASY to commit to these responsibilities when I felt compelled to do so. However, once I faced my first slump I found I didn't want to welcome members, I didn't even know what to type here in the chat thread let alone encourage others.
This dilemma/challenge has shared with me a wonderful lesson. Once you commit to something, it becomes your responsibility. You can avoid it. But it will pile up while you are away and if avoided long enough it could even be assigned to someone else which would be a very sad circumstance because with the loss of responsibility there will be lessons and joys lost as well. Whether I feel like sparking or NOT being accountable to my responsibilities here on this team is a necessity. By not welcoming a new member, they might never be recognized, then see this team as unwelcoming and leave and they would miss out on a glorious opportunity to be part of a very supportive encouraging team.
With this said, I am viewing many of my other responsibilities as well. I committed to them and therefore they have to be done! Shirking them will bring no joy or accomplishment to my life and I need those things in order to stay focused and positive.
emoticon QOTD: What responsibilities have you made to yourself? or others? Are you owning up to them and doing all you can to follow through with them? If not, what impact has that had on your life? What impact does following through with them have? emoticon
I don't typically exercise on weekends, it depends on my mood, but I do keep to my nutrition plan. I may end up a little higher than during the week, but still in range.
Anyone else finding compliments on weight loss to be a double edged sword? I ran into someone I hadn't seen in awile yesterday, and he asked me how skinny I was going to get. "It's really amazing! You look terriffic" he said. I think there was an "It's unbelievable" in there, too. Thanks, but while I obviouslyknow I had some weight to lose, I never thought I looked that bad. It really just hits home how even 25 extra pounds can be perceived! (I do like the, "You look great!" compliments! I got one of those from someone else, too. The suit jacket I wore yesterday really pulls me in at the waist.) But, people are really, really starting to notice my loss. I'm also starting to feel some pressure to keep it up. But, oeverall, I'm excited that I'm on track for my goal.
ONICAM - I hope it sticks, but I believe part of that is you doing little self-hypnosis items to keep it more current. I know this is a difficult time - my mother is in hospice now, too - but your grandmother would want you to take care of yourself.
Grandmashouse - loved the obscure info on Sundays. Thanks for sharing that.
Determindchicky - Hi and thanks for all you contribute here.
Weekends I'm generally better at eating properly and not too much, as well as being busier doing things that are active and exercise.
Lately, I've been doing pretty good on weekends. I've been spending at least 2 - 4 hours each day walking or hiking. And then making healthy food choices on top of that! I ate a little more than I had planned on Sunday, but all of my choices were still healthy ones, so I can't complain. I even made the healthy choice when we went out to a restaurant last night.
Thanks Jen.
As for my weekends, it's a bit of both as well. Most meals are well-planned out and healthy, but we might sneak some ice cream or chocolate in there from time to time. Afternoons are very laid back with hardly any exercise (LOL!).
Grandmashouse: That is a very interesting tidbit for sure! Thank you for sharing.
QOTD: Do you continue your healthy living on the weekends? Or is the weekend an excuse to let loose and party?
Mine are a little bit of both. Depends where my commitment level is. Usually my weekends are for fun and I spark all week.
Some fun Sunday facts:
"the name of Sunday has nothing to do with Christianity, but everything to do with even more ancient religions. The ancient Greeks knew that the sun was the source of life on the planet and they gave it prime importance in their thinking. When the Romans later adopted the seven day week they emphasize their respect for the sun by naming the first day of the week for it..."dies solis"..."day of the sun".
Sunday
The actual word "Sunday" is derived from the German word "Sonntag" (and they likely got it from the Scandanavians). These folk too placed a great deal of importance on the sun. Some tribes of these Germanic peoples invaded England in the 500's or so. They were known as the Angles and the Saxons. The old English work was "sunnandaeg" and it changed over time to become our current, "Sunday".
I am needing some accountability help when it comes to my binging. I am sure that some of it is due to the fact that my grandmother is on hospice.
I'm at work and watching the clock - because Wade should be here in 2-3 hours. He leaves on Sunday morning as he has to be back on base Monday. Am I excited? Oh you betcha!
Less than 24 hours before my Armed Forces nephew arrives and I'm just quivering with anticipation. I'm going to make this a weekend to remember.
a little over a year ago, I tried doing the onehundredpushups.com program. But, like usual, I went to extremes. I also tried doing the 200 situps and and 200 squats program at the same time. It of course ended up being too time consuming and I quit.
Lately, I've been toying with the idea of starting again, but only working on one program at a time. It's a great idea and I would like to incorporate it as one of my mini-goals into my current program. I think that I will choose one of them and start at the beginning of August (going on vacation at the end of the month and it will be hard enough trying to maintain my current program during that time.)
Congrats all for your accomplishments! I logged 75 minutes of fitness yesterday YAA!! Also, my daughter brought me a chocolate chip cookie and I did not eat it. I carried it in the house and my other daughter saw it and devoured it. I am so proud as this is a major accomplishment for me. I have such a sweet tooth and am very weak when it comes to chocolate chip cookies.
Ok, I went down .8 from yesterday, so I can see that I'm likely busting through my plateau and starting to lose again, so I'm sure the following rant will feel a bit like a, "my diamond shoes are too tight" sort of thing, but here it goes. So, as I've posted before, I love Coach Nicole's kickboxing video. I do it once or twice, it's about 10 minutes. Typically, I burn 102 or so calories, according to the SP calculator. Today? 99! It sucks that you burn fewer calories doing the same stuff just because you're getting smaller! I feel like I have to work way harder to get results now! Obviously it makes sense since I'm "using" less weight, and I know it's only a 3 calorie difference, but it just get my panties in a twist when I saw it this morning. /rant
Hope you had a great workout TX.PATRICIA today!
Thanks Jen! Although Im completely worn out after a ten hour day at work. I did work on the challenges for this team though a week bit. Slowly but surely I will get back at it full swing.
You will find your groove in life Jen, you will all of a sudden come to know just what path you really want to take. For now enjoy the ride!
Nanner and Onicam, just keep pluggin away, you will find the backwards steps get fewer. Hang in there.
I read an empowering thing today. It said whatever you say you would LOVE to do, is what you are MEANT to do. Because we are meant to be happy. When I read that, I found it spoke to me. I am a person who has no clue what I am meant to do or how to figure it out. But there have been a few times that I have said boy would I love to do that. I am going to use this concept as a guide and see if I can start cultivating joy in dark corners. I am meant to be happy and deserve to be.
Had a good eating day today. Really pushed fruits, vegetables and my vitamins to try to push off the ill feelings I had this morning. Feeling a little better, and got a tiny spark going too. Woohoo.
Heather-I find your commitment to yourself to be inspiring. Way to go on trying to get back into things as quickly as possible.
Patricia-Congrats on committing to the Personal Trainer and finding a plan that works for you. Great job on all your Equestrian success!!!!!
Good Morning Everyone!
Im thinking today is the day I get back to the gym... its been two weeks and I've been down with a nasty respiratory infection... I NEED to get back in the Fitness game, the longer I stay down the hard it is going to be. I usually do a boot camp on Wednesdays but I think today I will just work on the challenges I signed up for in this team. Haven't really decided yet on that though so we will see how I feel after work today.
I have a copy of the 30 day shred and only did the first two days and never went back to it. I find it hard to do fitness videos at home.
Have a super Wednesday everyone!
Happy Hump Day!!!
Ok, I have decided & worked it out with my personal trainer that I will be going once a week for an hour, that means that I will need to work out two or three days by myself either at home, or at the gym. We are changing my appointment time so that I can go straight to my session & not have to go home & then drive back to time (gotta save that diesel $$)
I am seriously considering dusting off the 30-Day Shred Video (I posted in the Exercise Forum), how many of ya'll have done it, & if you have did you see results?
Thanks for all the congratulations on my horse activities, it feels so good!!!
We have a team member celebrating a birthday today!
Yall cruise over to their page & wish them a happy birthday!!
EE
Born today, July 13, you don't necessarily enjoy doing things entirely on your own, but you are equipped with the brainpower, physical stamina and resourcefulness required of anyone who finds himself or herself in situations that require solo effort -- and you can succeed on your own when circumstances require it of you. Still, you prefer to work with others -- and the more closely and intimately you can, the better. Indeed, you often feel as though your teammates are more family than partners, and this is often the key to your success.
You have tremendous staying power, and your loyalty is one of your greatest strengths; once you have pledged yourself to a project or a cause, you will work tirelessly to bring about success or victory. In the rare case of a losing effort, however, you can be relied upon to be fair-minded in all things.
Be sure to let us know when your birthday is so we can celebrate it with you! Just click on this link?
I wish I was like that, but I tend to go from 2 steps forward and 30 steps back. I wish it was the other way around, but that is not happening very well.
