Hi Court, I saw some examples of how to make your own masks from kitchen towel. I don't know what you call it but the absorbent paper used in the kitchen for wiping up spills or to absorb grease when you are cooking. Don't know if it would be very effective but it might be an idea for the kids to do themselves.

There are a few available, just put free Scottish newspapers into your search bar and several will pop up. They are written in standard English though, no accents or dialects there, lol.

I don't think there is anywhere that is truly safe from the virus. It pops up in the most obscure places. All we can do is make sure we are as careful as we can be with our own safety and keep washing our hands whenever we venture out. As for cleaning, I gave up on that a while ago but like you I am needing to get into it again. I have spent a lot of time out in my garden though so I don't feel too guilty about the build up of dust indoors.

Have a great week and look after yourself.

We found some small masks for kids but ended up too small. The adult sizes are too big. I do have some we got at Target and they fit okay. I think I'll move to a state where the confirmed cases are low. lol. Florida cases just keep going up.

I want to find a free online Scottish newspaper. I have an Irish one. It is interesting to see what goes on in other countries.

I remember when I took a Spanish class I would buy a Spanish newspaper at a newspaper store, I didn't stay with that class long unfortunately. We have a lot of Hispanics here in Florida.

Well supper calls. Take care and have a good day.

I need to get back into the cleaning and reorganizing mood again. I know there is a lot more I can do around here, but the mood kind of passed. haha.

It can be difficult trying to understand people although trying to speak on a phone but unable to talk English does seem a bit stupid. An automatic translator would be handy. If you add on accents from different areas then life can become impossible, lol.

I don't know about wearing a mask as I have literally been nowhere that it might be required. My sons have been bringing my shopping and helping out with the different chores at home so apart from family, delivery couriers and the local shop, where one person is allowed in at a time, hand sanitiser available for using the card machine for the Post Office, it can't be accessed with a swipe, I haven't met anyone. Goodness knows how I will find the new 'normal' in shops. Our other shops aren't opening until July 10th or something. Don't know the exact date, lol. Our lockdown has only been very slightly eased. I hope the numbers in Florida start to even out again so things can get back to normal for you.

it certainly isn't hot here today, 59 the last time I checked but it was 87 on Thursday and very humid. Humidity was about 70%which is very high. Every move made me sweat. No problem with that today.

I'm going to my son's for dinner this evening so I'm off to get changed before going out. My first overnight stay in three months, lol. Look after yourself and watch out for those ignorant people without their masks.

I met my friend at a park and we sat catty corner at a table. It was a nice visit, we talked about what all we've been doing and just a shoulder to complain or support one another. We didn't wear a mask and we didn't sit right across from each other it was at a distance.

There are walking paths and some people were out, most without masks. I don't know if I would walk without one or not, you can come up to other people to pass and I'd feel better with a mask.

I can't believe how the people are complaining about having to wear a mask. Don't they understand that it is to protect each other. They see it as the government 'making' them wear one. Childish!! I just want to shout, "People wake up, this is a pandemic!! Our number of cases are going up!!"'

I like youtube that I can hear languages, dialects etc. So cool.

When I worked I did have problems trying to understand other people who called, they move here but haven't learned our language.

Today is very hot. I checked the online weather and 11:00 said 89, but feels like 102. It sure did feel it. We went to the grocery store and coming out, wow! The heat. Stayed inside the rest of the day.

Take care.

I do hate it when that happens. You are typing away when suddenly it all disappears. Where does it go, lol.

Lol, half three is half past three so 3.30. You were heading off to bed at around half twelve.

I would suggest you listen carefully to those interviews but once you have heard them a few times it shouldn't be so bad. My granddaughter works in the local Cottage Hospital and they had a new patient who couldn't speak English. She said to my granddaughter to speak more slowly. The patient was Eastern European and she had a better grasp of English than my granddaughter had of Polish or whatever language it was. Foreign languages and dialects do sound pretty much like a gabble.

It is about five to five here, 4.55, so I am going to finish my posts then make my dinner.

If you manage to meet up with your friend have a lovely time.

Ugh! i had a post here and hit some key and lost it. As I was saying...

That is so neat that I can know how my ancestors sound. Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to listen to James McAvoy interviews.

In a video the guy was saying half 3. I wasn't sure if it was half till 3 or half after 3, He said half 3 so I would take it to be 2:30. Interesting to learn these things. I just might try all this I'm learning on my husband. emoticon

I'm heading fro bed as it is 12:24. I'm meeting a friend at the park. We planned on it last week, but bad weather had other ideas. We haven't seen each other since beginning of last month. I haven't seen any of my friends in fact.
Take care.

What a coincidence you listened to James McAvoy as his accent would be very similar to that Scottish ancestor of yours. Probably even more difficult to understand, lol.

My accent is a bit like that but much less so as I was brought up in the Scottish Borders and they have a different accent again. I have noticed that speaking to my brother every day recently, because he lives on his own in Hawick and has mental health problems, my own accent has been reverting to the Border accent, lol. I find I am repeating myself too so you are not alone on that one either.

Look after yourself and keep laughing. It keeps us young. In our minds anyway.

Interesting. I can google youtube for the dialects sound. It is fascinating to learn about how others live, talk etc. Think I did say that before.

That is how I will start looking at myself from now on. lol.

I sometimes take my glasses off then have to hunt them down. I had such good eye sight when I was younger, but working on the computer for years did that in.

I went on Facebook and put Scottish accent and a Saturday Night Live comedy sketch came up with James McAvoy came up. He has a thick accent.....but he is a fav actor of mine.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it.

Good evening,

It's almost dinnertime here and pouring with rain again. That's why Scotland and Ireland are so green, the rain doesn't know how to stop.

Aye is used everyday by more or less everyone here too. You often here people say ye too which sounds decidedly old fashioned written down but not when 'ye hear it' like that. It's s bit like y'all in the US. Accents and language are very difficult to navigate when people are speaking. The written word hasnae ( has not) so many nuances, lol. The dialect in New Monklands would be very similar to the broad Glasgow accent that can be found on some YouTube articles. No idea where as I don't use it much.

The best way for old women to look at themselves is in a dimly lit room without glasses, so I read, with my glasses, recently, lol.

Enjoy your day.

Good morning, We're just getting ready to sit down to listen to our preacher on Facebook, he streams the Sunday sermons and Thursday night Bible study.

I was on a youtube the other day and some Irish were talking and use the 'aye' for yes. I just thought that was old fashion, but I guess it is used, is it in Scotland? I like that.

I was looking at the back of my desk and boy is it dusty. Really need to dust more often. These little places I miss seeing until I'm in the right light. lol

Have a good day.

I'm not really surprised you found it hard to get further on the Scottish grandfather. Scottish registers where all details were listed didn't start until the 1850s. Prior to that the only records are Parish Records. These can be accessed through Scotland's People but it can be difficult to navigate at first. They only list a sort of directory with very basic information and most of Scotland seems to have used the same names for all the children. If grandfather was called James and he had four sons you can more or less guarantee that all the sons called one of their sons James too and James was a very popular name. I have goodness knows how many on my tree on both sides of the family, lol. I used to be the Registrar for Crawford Parish and had free access to all the records for years but it is very time consuming so I never finished doing mine either. I use Ancestry but that can become expensive too.

Your arrangement with your cousin sounds as though it worked out fine for you both. Just as well you don't need anything altered at present though. i do agree with you about the present situation, it does feel extremely strange. I hope it ends or at least eases up soon. It gets very lonely here since Iain passed and although my sons have been brilliant I can't expect them to be here all the time either. They have things to do themselves.

I have to admit I'm glad our police do not use guns as a rule. They can use them if there is a need but generally people don't carry or even have weapons of any sort at home. Hunters are required to have licences and gun cabinets to lock them all away. Some of the morons going around are evil enough as it is without having easy access to guns. It is more of a problem in the cities but as our little village only has about 350 people it is very quiet. Ironically there are quite a few with shotguns because there is game shooting on the hills here in summer.

The members of the royal family all seem to be long lived. Must have long lived genes but yes, people are living longer too. I read in the paper today about a woman who is celebrating her 100th birthday with her elder sister who is 108, lol. Now those are long living genes. She didn't look like 100 either although her sister did look more like her age.

Look after yourself too.

That great grandfather is one of my brick walls. Now that I have my Scottish I need my Irish and wonder if his ancestors may have come from Ireland. Most of mine people I have found I think go beyond the famine time, except my brick walls. I wish I was better at this. some was in a Bible and some from a family tree my grandmother gave me. One person on it she wronte was from Ireland but everything I find says Virginia. I wonder if they lied. Didn't the Irish have a bad time when they came to America? I'm re-organizing my info into notebooks, 4 different colors for the paternal and maternal side. Blue for paternal dad's side and green for maternal dad's side and rd and yellow for the mom's side.

I was adopted to an aunt so luckily I know about my bio family. Luckier than some people adopted.

I can't sew. we always take our clothes to Moe at the mall, but I don't know if he is open. We haven't been going out much so no hurry to get anything hemmed.

When I lived up north in Ohio, my cousin did my hemming and I baby sat for her. Fair trade. lol

That has to be nice to be in the same time zone. My girlfriend, in California, is 3 hours behind me so sometimes she calls me late.

You know what is hard to find? Underwear. At least my size, 8. I guess they are making masks instead of underwear. lol. I did find a package today though, so that was lucky. It is getting easier now to buy toilet paper.

I still find it hard that we are all going thru this. It's like our world won't be the same, at least here with everything. I try not to watch the news, too depressing.

At our Wal-Mart some man tried to hijack a car with people in it, he even shot in side the car but they are going to be okay. He did get killed by the police. A while back two guys went around Wal-Mart coughing on people then spraying them with Fabreze. They got arrest and for steeling because they stole the Fabreze spray. Scary to go out any more.

I see where Prince Phillip had a birthday, 99 years old. Wow! People are living longer now a days.

Well, will go get some things done. Take care.

It is interesting to find out about other parts of the world and what differences and similarities there are. All is relatively well here at present. The lockdown is slowly easing but still pretty tight at the moment. We can visit with one other family outside.

There are some demonstrations in Edinburgh and Glasgow about the Floyd incident too although our First Minister is asking them not too at present because the Covid-19 is still at a severe level here and large gatherings will exacerbate that situation. The ones so far have been peaceful although there was a bit of trouble in London.

The UK is in one time zone with the entire country at the same time. The British Isles are really very small. You are about 5 hours behind us as the UK is on the 0 degrees line of longitude.

How interesting you have relatives who came from New Monklands. New Monklands is about 45 miles from here. Just outside Glasgow. I live in the hills of South Lanarkshire in a small village called Crawford. As matter of interest I have relatives who lived in New Monklands too. My great grandfather was married there as far as I remember. I would need to search through my family tree notes to be sure. He was a coal miner in the deep mine at New Monklands I think. He was one of a family of nine or ten siblings so it might have been one of his brothers, lol.

Your assembly abilities are excellent. Good for you still doing these jobs. It's a while since I did anything like that but I used to do quite a bit of upholstery. Today I have been repairing my son's SO's shorts which had a split seam. Appeared a simple little job until I looked closely. It was a flat seam and one little seam became three quite long ones and the seam across the legs needed stitched too. They are done now though and a T shirt where the overlocking (serging I think you call it) hadn't caught the fabric. All done. Tomorrow a pair of jogging trousers needing shortened an a T shirt where the hem has totally unravelled.

We can always find something to keep us busy. I'm going to finish my other posts now before dinner. Look after yourselves too.

Hi, Thanks for all the info. I find it fascinating to learn about how other people in countries live.Culture, food, etc.

Hope all is well on your side of the world. I guess it is just across the ocean. 'just', as if it was across the street. lol.

We had a lot of running around today, more than any since all this pandemic started. I put together a bar stool for the kitchen counter, where my laptop is stationed. Felt good to achieve something. I used to put together desks, book shelves etc. Fun. The stool is still standing so I guess I did something right.

I read that Glasgow is planning a peaceful protest for Sunday. I was surprised that all these countries have done this, and hopefully it stays peaceful.

What part of Scotland do you live? I forgot, I think you did tell me. If I figured out my 2x great granddad was born in New Monkland. I think that was the name

Do you have the same time zone throughout Scotland? My girlfriend lives in California and we're 3 hours ahead of her. It was nice when she visited her mom in Ohio, same time zone.

Well, going to get some more things done here. Take care.

A great deal of Scotland is fields. There are frequently sheep in the field next to me and the perishers persist on trying to climb throught the fence, lol. They belong to the farmer across the river from here and there are several other farmers sround, all with sheep. I believe there are wild ones in the Orkeney islands but generally the sheep are all owned by farmers. The next village is 5 miles away and it has a shop where one can buy most things. I try to do shopping once a week at some of the larger supermarkets but the wee shop is handy for yhings that have been forgotten.

Like you I used to leave all the driving to Iain but snce he died I have had to make an effort to get back into driving myself. I have had a licence for over 40 years so it's a case of getting my nerve back again, lol.

I agree with you about the 50s and 60s. It did seem to be a more peaceful and relaxed time but as you said, we can't turn the clock back.

Our dentists aren't allowed to practice at the moment unless it is an emergency. I hope it eases up soon but cheers on a good report for you both. It's always a worry if they are going to find something wrong, lol.

Look after yourselves and keep those masks handy.

Sounds so picturesque where you live and I love that you go to the village. That is the way I see Scotland with fields, gardens, villages, pubs. Do they have sheep running around on the fields, I never knew if they belonged to farmers or if you had wild ones. Videos touring countries would show them running around.

I'd love to visit the UK, but I'll have to settle for reading about it or watching videos, youtubes.

Although, I don't think I could live 40 miles away from the stores. There's always something we need, but we only go out maybe twice a week and the stores are just down the road. Jim does most of the driving, but I"ve really got to get back into the knack of driving again, it's just sometimes scary when you aren't used to driving.

I like the 50s too. We have music channels of various genres (I like the 50s & 60s too). I wouldn't mind going back to the 50s. It wasn't like this, I don't mean the pandemic, but just all that is going now a days. As kids, we could go Halloweening without parents and not worry about our candy. You didn't have to lock you doors. Oh well, can't go backward.

We had our dental appt today. We called on the cell once we got there and the girl came out to take our temperature and asked questions that we had to sign, bring our own pen. Had a good dental report. She was very pleased that we've been keeping taking good care of our teeth.

Well, guess I'll get back to some exercise. I tried to clean some grout by the front door, looks okay.

We had to wear masks when we went in and take off once we're in the chair. I thought I'd have to wait in the car while Jim had his appt but they let me wait in waiting room No magazines and only one end table with nothing on it. They had Plexiglas all around the front desk.

Is this going to be the new norm, I wonder?

I do have quite a big selection of channels to watch Court but there's no cable tv where I live in a village in the hills. We are too remote from main urban areas. Suits me fine as I like the peace and quiet out here. My house is very secluded. I have one next door neighbour and several others roundabout but all over 200 yards away so I'm not isolated either and I'm more or less surrounded by fields and trees. The nearest big shop similar to Target will be about 40 miles away. There's a shop in the next village and supermarkets about 15 to 20 miles away. I listen to the radio a lot and Iain and I particularly like an Internet channel called Radio Caroline Flashback. It plays only music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and bit of early 80s. All stuff we knew and can remember the words too, lol.

I've not been to a large store since the lockdown began. My two sons have been getting my shopping and making sure I have plenty of logs in for the log burner stove in the evenings. I go to the wee shop occasionally but apart from that I spend most of my time in the garden. It's huge so keeps me busy without even trying. Also do video chats with friends which is brilliant. I am glad you had such a good meet up with your friend. I have had a couple with friends but it's gone very cold again so not good for sitting outside. Some of my friends who have to go out are wearing masks so it's becoming more common all over.

I too have been doing home cooking but luckily my sons are only too happy to take some of it off my hands, lol. Keep doing the workouts. They are very good for us. You will be getting near to lunchtime, lol. Have a great weekend.

Do you have options for what tv programming? We have comcast but there are other cable options, Universe, can't think of others. We have a lot of channel and music channel as well.

We went back to Target. I was afraid we'd be the only ones wearing masks as they seem to be loosing things up (too soon I think.), but about all the older people wore them and some clerks.
We looked for peroxide for my SIL but none or alcohol.

Going to grocery store tomorrow, then not going out again until next week. I'm getting way too use to staying home. I spend more time working out to burn calories for the meals I eat. Fitbit is motivating me, but to meet the calorie goal takes forever. Usually into the evening. I get over my 10,000 steps in easy enough I worked out to two tapes and two were walking tapes.

I had a nice visit with my friend, we sat in back of the church, grassy area with trees. Just talked about everything. Kept our distance. We may do it again. I just wish my other 3 or 4 friends could join us. Who knows, maybe.

I just pulled up my world clock and see it is 4:18 am Thursday there. It's 11:18 pm Wed here in Florida..Your 5 hours ahead of us. Hope you have a good night.

Wow! Nice at 88, it's been nice here too, at 69, which is unseasonably warm, lol. We are to get cold again tomorrow though. Arctic winds blowing down. Unpack the thermals again.

We don't have Target as such but there are similar sorts of stores. How are finding the Fitbit? Setting these things up can be a total pest. Lucky you have someone to help you. My grandson is great for that. He was helping me with my TV last week. Increased the number of programmes and channels I can watch now. Cheers for TP and paper towels too. Not had a problem but I know some people are still finding it hard to get them.

I hope you had a great visit with your friend. It is good to actually talk to another human being instead of making do with phone calls.

Take care and have a great weekend.

We went to Target, not sure if you have that store there in Scotland, like a department store with food. I got a new Fitbit Inspire. I've been wanting a fitness tracker for a long time. DH's nephew will come tomorrow to help set it up, I did charge it. I can do that at least.
They had some TP there and paper towels. Yay!!

Most of my friends text, which I don't do. I'm still in the cave days of e-mail. I do message on Facebook sometimes though.

Masks are voluntary here too. Some places you see them all over and other stores barely anyone has them on, including clerks.

It was nice today. 88. I'm meeting a friend behind her church tomorrow. Keeping our distance and sitting in our own chairs, just to talk and visit. I haven't see any of my friends (which are mostly church friends) in a long time.

We had our Taco dinner tonight instead of yesterday's Cinco de Mayo.

Take care.

Hi there,

I know what you mean about the restrictions. I'm 70 in November so it will affect me too eventually. At present wearing masks is voluntary and they are actually scared to tell people to wear them in case they start buying up the ones which are suitable for medical use. Granddaughter works on the NHS here and she says the masks they use have a waterproof membrane but the cheaper ones don't. Health workers need them more than me so I try to stay at home as much as possible. Like you I'm quite happy in my own company although since Iain passed away it is very quiet in the evenings. I chat to friends on the phone regularly and my brother and sons phone every day too. It's a wonder I ever get anything done, so busy chatting away, lol. I did go to the post office in the next village this morning and as it is a small shop only one person is allowed in at a time. There was only one person waiting when I went so it wasn't long. They have sanitiser and wipes available at the door and I had gloves with me. It was only because I wanted to send a card and a gift voucher to my grandson or I wouldn't have been there at all. My sons get me shopping and stock up my store of logs for the stove. Our weather has been lovely the past few weeks but it is back to normal now. Raining and a cold wind now. The temperature only reached 49 this afternoon so heating and fire will both be on this evening.

There are two vaccines being tested here at the moment but even if they work they wont be available until next year probably. Looks like we will have to adapt our ways of living. Our local supermarket has TP stocks back to normal and most other things are available too. At least something is working, lol.

I stay out in the country so there are no home deliveries available for fast food. If I want pizza I have to cook it myself, lol. I do miss not getting out for the odd meal though. My sons use the take away places near them though. Everything is ordered and paid for by phone and they just collect the meal already wrapped up or boxed. I suppose if whatever you are having is really hot it shouldn't be a problem. Might be a bit wary of eating ice cream outside though.

All we can do is carry on being careful and know it will pass eventually. Stay safe.

Hi all.

Sally, oh my gosh! 18 months. That would be me, I'm 70, be 71 in Sept. We go to the grocery store maybe once a week. Didn't have TP today but we still have some. We did get some paper towels and napkins. Later I called a pharmacy and found they have X-large gloves, which DH needs and XS gloves for me. Small gloves are too big believe it or not. They had masks!! So we got some.

When I wear gloves it does remind me not to touch my face. I know a lot are saying you don't have to wear gloves, but I see a lot wearing them. If we don't take them off when we get in the care, I clean the car with wipes, but we are learning how to take them off.

It takes time to wipe down the groceries, canned goods etc. Whenever we find wipes we get them.

18 months....this must be going to last a looonnnngggg time. Well they did say it will be back along with the regular seasonal flu. Hope they come up with a vaccine before that. I wouldn't know if I had the reg. flu or Corona, but guess they do have different symptoms.

Some restaurants have to go or/and delivery. We thought about getting a pizza to go, but not sure if we want to chance it. They all say how they are being careful etc.

Nice that you have a garden. You can have fresh salads.

I'm glad I'm an introvert as staying inside doesn't bother me. I don't have to be on the go and doing something all the time.

Take care everyone!!

Hi there, doing fine here.

Nothing is being opened officially as yet. Some busuinesses have begun to work again but with strict social distancing in place. I can understand how you are suspicious of peoples' ability to respect the social distancing though. I live next to the main West Coast railway line and this afternoon there were workmen on the line and they were not staying the required distance apart. It may feel fine to them but what about their families and anyone else they happen to meet up with. On the other hand they are unlikely to come up with a genuine, fully tested vaccine any time soon. Even if the ones they are testing just now are viable they still won't be available for at least months away and it's unlikely that people generally will put up with being shut in that long. They're talking here about telling over 70s they must stay inside for the next 18 months which is ridiculous in my opinion. It wouldn't cause me a huge problem as I'm not 70, at least not yet, and I have a big garden where I can go at anytime but many others are not so fortunate. I suspect we may eventually have to take our chances and make sure we stay as far away from people generally. All you can do is stay away from people as much as possible. Look after yourselves out there.

Hope all is well for you too.

They are opening our beaches on the 28th. Can't believe it. I know people need to get out, but I don't trust that they will keep the distance and one state is opening gyms, salons and bowling. I know people need to make a living but this just doesn't seem like the right time yet. Not until the virus is more under control and hopefully a cure or something. Maybe it is just me being paranoid.

Hope you are doing well.

I think you're right from things I read in the paper. The world will be different. I read that the pandemic is threatening international peace and security. I don't know much about that, but seems this is when we all need to pull together.

My son told me he saw people at the supermarket today with homemade masks too although our government say it's a waste of time. People just want to feel they are doing something whether it is deep cleaning or wearing a mask. I would love to think that when this is all over we will find the world a better place but I'm afraid I don't think that will happen. We can always hope though.

I think the deep cleaning was just to have something to do. I may try it. lol. Heaven knows when this is all over it will never get done.

People here are making masks our of clothe, like those bandanas or whatever fabric. Can't find masks. We still had some from 2-years ago when we had bronchitis, thought it was last year but no. Time flies. Wish it would fly back now and get this over with.

We wipe down the groceries when we bring them in and wipe down our bags. Wonder what kind of normal will be have after this?

Facebook has some uplifting posts and funny ones to lighten the mood.

Take care.

We're in more or less total lockdown too. It makes more sense to stay way from others as much as possible. It doesn't care who or what you are and no-one is totally safe. Even the ones who have had it as it sometimes seems to come back for a second go.

Haven't done the deep clean here either. Can't really see the point in that. If I've brought it home one way or another cleaning the house isn't going to get rid of it as I would already be infected. Just keep washing our hands is as good as anything I reckon.

Stay safe anyway and hopefully some warmer weather might see it off at least for a while.

Our Governor in Florida has ordered a Stay-at-Home. But they still allow groups of not more that 10 and okay for church services, I guess they still have to stay at a distance. I'm not going to church, mine is a big group so I'm sure they won't open. It's held at a school so schools are closed anyhow.

I read that the Democrats and officials had to more or less pressure him to act. I think he is a wimp but I could be wrong. He should have shut down the beaches long ago and started the safe distance a long time ago. So frustrating when people don't do what they are suppose to do, like the young kids on Spring break, just didn't listen. Now they see how serious it is.

Sorry for ranting.

My sister-in-law said her retired husband has been doing some deep house cleaning. My motivation hasn't gone that far. lol

Hi Court,

It's good to hear you are doing okay where you are. Practically everything is closed down here. Some police were even using drones to tell people to go home when they were out walking their dog in the hills. While I appreciate the sense of keeping common beauty spots and places where people congregate closed I did think that was a bit OTT.

I still haven't been anywhere but I do have a large garden so I've been out in it for a while today. My eldest son is brilliant and getting my shopping for me. He got a load of stuff for me today and for my other son too. His SO's aunt has the virus and there has been a knock on of SO's parents visiting and her visiting them so they are in quarantine too for another week but at least they are well so far. I haven't heard of anyone in the village with it but i don't do social media so unless someone phones to tell me i have no idea what is happening out there. Could be the best option just now, stay away from everyone. I've been doing jigsaws and reading books. Also been looking at various plants for my garden. That is so tempting but if I bought everything I like I'd have no money left, lol.

Stay safe and away from people. Sally

We're doing good here, Last time out was last Wednesday to get groceries. I think we're going out Tuesday for some supplies. The elderly can get into most groceries stores an hour early while the store is still clean. If you get there late there will be a very long line.
I've been doing a lot of organizing closets and drawers. So, some progress being done.

Some states only have essential businesses open, doctors, groceries, etc. Here in Florida I can go to the Dollar Tree and get whatever. I guess it is good for those who don't have a lot of money. Our numbers keep going up so something isn't working. My friend said she is very disappointed in our Governor and I agree. He needs to be more aggressive. He left beaches open and of course kids are going to party. Finally when done, think of all the interaction taking place and germs taken back to family members. I read 4 college students tested positive.

Same here, when we first went out we couldn't get toilet paper, hamburger or eggs. I think we are pretty stocked up for now since they opened up to elderly, that is if they get a truck in early enough for us.

Take care.

Hi Court,

Looks like you and I are the only folks still contributing anything to the conversation here, lol. The virus is causing big problems here now. Everyone over 65 is advised to stay in self-isolation and over 70s even more so. I've barely been anywhere this last week. I took the car out to give it a run to keep the battery up and I went to the next village, about 5 miles away, yesterday to try to get some bread. There was none left but my son came down today and brought a loaf with him as well as some fresh fruit. The shelves are still emptying quicker than the stores can fill them so some folks must have a heck of a lot of stuff in their cupboards. Anyway, Keep safe and stay away from others as much as possible. This is a very infectious bug and it doesn't care who it infects. Look after yourselves.

How's everyone doing? Going stir crazy at home? I'm still reorganizing the closets. DH's nephew hooked up our new laptop, but we forgot to download the virus protection. At least the old PC is still working.

Some of our stores are allowing the elderly to shop before, when the store is still clean and before the other people start in,. Publix, Wal-Mart, Target. Different days though.

Take care.

Yes Court, the U.K. consists of Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. There was a referendum about three years ago and the majority of voters wanted to leave. Lots of arguments since as to the how and why etc but the last General Election the incumbent government were reelected with a massive majority so now they are left to negotiate some new trade terms. It has been very contentious with lots of people bothered about losing the links with Europe but there has also been lots of complaints about the amount of money the UK contributed to the finance. Second largest contributor and one of the few countries paying in more than they were taking out. Time will tell who got it right.

Can not believe it is 2020. I remember 2000 when everyone was worried about the Y2K. Seems like last year, but it has been 20 years ago!!

Hope everyone had a good holiday with family and friends.

Chilly out today, get to wear some of my jackets and scarves, not too much on the scarf side as I'd like. I have so many but not much occasion to wear them. Should just wear them as an accessory.

On my way to a doctor appt so have a good day.

Hi Court,

We definitely get snow in Scotland, lol. Sometimes a lot more than we want. Edinburgh is about 60 miles from here and at sea level. We are up in the hills and have had several frosty nights recently. Down to 22 F just last week, lol.

How nice your friend wants you to do some cartoons. Pay lots of attention to YouTube and get drawing.

I heard that state of Indian had snow. Don't miss that. Scotland gets snow, right? I was googling some sites and looks like you have some cold weather, in the 40s. that is in Edinburgh.

My girlfriend wants me to keep up my art in cartooning. She wants to start writing little things that her great granddaughter does thru the year and wants little pic of it, like a caricature of her and whatever. I know they are going to a zoo Monday. I guess I'd better seriously start drawing. A lot of youtube watching. lol

I'll be glad when your hurricane season is over too. They frequently end up blowing through here although at a much reduced strength.

Perspective is very difficult to do. I manage fine for a while then it all goes haywire, lol.

Boy, I've been off SP for a while now. How time flies.
I can't get into politics either. I just wish everyone could get along and work together for the well fair of our country.

I'm trying to learn perspective, so hard!! I do better following a youtube then trying to make up my own design, which is what I want to do.

I never think that you in Scotland get our weather as in hurricanes etc. I was surprised that when we get one that the storm goes up thru the states to my own hometown in Ohio. But by then it is a storm not hurricane. I'll be glad when hurricane season is over. DH keeps track of weather, I don't bother until it is something to worry about.

Lots of excitements around our politics, rather like the US. Wish they'd all go away, lol. Our weather is becoming increasingly chilly and damp. We've had a couple of frosts but not severe as yet. Humberto blew through at the end of the week although fortunately it had lost a lot of strength by the time it reached here. Next week is to have cold northerly winds just in time for October. I picked a couple of apples today so I shall use them tomorrow.

I like drawing and painting too but I don't do them very often. Sometimes I take a notion and bring out my pad and do some, lol. No Picasso for sure, lol but it's fun, enjoy yours.

Just opposite of me. I hate hurricanes but the cold up there in winter....Brrr! I have a few cousins and few friends still up there, but anyone close enough to move back to them.

Anything new going on in Scotland?

I started a new hobby, drawing or trying to draw. I get frustrated too easy. I posted a blog with my amateurish drawings. I'll probably give up before I get better.

I'm originally from Ohio. I don't know why I thought she was from Florida. Maybe I knew we had some location connection but had the wrong state in mind. lol

I hope that goes a little east for everyone's sake. Saw the reports on the Bahamas and it is dreadful. Always seems to be the ones who have very little who get hit the hardest too. I think Michele moved to Ohio but I may be wrong.

DH had a little trouble with a couple shutters, that we will now keep up for rest of hurricane season. Had little rain and some wind, but all that will change. I just wish it would head north and hopefully nudge some to the east, further away from Fl. but not to hit the little countries that have already been hit.

The Bahamas and others were hit really bad, with a cat 5, the worse. Such devastation. I feel so bad for them.

Michelle, don't you live in Florida?

Sorry to hear you are in the path of that hurricane Court. I hope it passes you by and you are all safe. It must be easier to put those shutters up before any wind starts though although I have no idea what that entails. good luck with all that too.

Christine, sorry for the bad weather ruining the Gala Day. People work so hard preparing then that happens.

Sally, yeah, we mostly have weeds and where no weeds, just dirt. We laid sod a few years ago then some kind of bug visited and now...an ugly yard.

We've been having a lot of rain but lately just humid and hot. Now looks like a possible hurricane, but it is way off. DH wants to put up the hurricane shutters just in case. I think we are always the first to put them up and then it doesn't come near. Hate hurricane season. He says don't want to put them up in rain in case it comes our way. Also he says if don't put shutters up insurance co. wouldn't pay for damage if it did come.

Sally - we're the same here near Kilmarnock. Except that our grass IS the weeds!!!! The main part of the garden is slabbed.
The heavy rain we had a couple of hours ago was a shame, becos today was our Gala Day - so the floats and parade, the crowning of the Gala Queen, the music, dancing and stalls . . .

Weather is changeable here in Scotland today. We've had sun, clouds and some rain too. One thing guaranteed to grow are weeds and the grass which has often been too wet to cut.

Hi Milton's Mama,

I'm sorry you seem to have had a nasty response to your post. Everyone has a right to their beliefs and lots of people do believe in seeing people and pets once they have passed.

I know from personal experience too that there are more things happening in heaven and earth than we all know or understand and if this gives you comfort then who are we to say you are 'mad'. I'm happy for you to have comfort from seeing your pet.

Sally

I know you don't believe me, because you've expressed as much, but you might find this interesting reading nonetheless:

Anyway, it is a Scottish thing. It runs in families. Usually, you are born with it. Sometimes, however, people start experiencing stuff like that after a personal tragedy like almost dying. One such example is the American medium George Anderson:
georgeanderson.com/about/

I'm not mad, because, this is nothing to be mad about, really. But I just feel very confident in my ability. So I'm being assertive about what happened. You're actually the first person that has said anything when I talk about this sort of thing. I'm usually either totally ignored, or they won't talk about it, but something else entirely. For that reason, I'm only writing about that sort of thing now on another blog, that is a personal place. I did want people to believe me, and my feelings were sort of hurt that no one would. But with my journal space, I can freely write things and no one makes me feel like they don't believe me. So it makes me feel better to write about all of my experiences there. Anyway, so yeah, I'm not going to bring it up again. I guess I just wanted to share the links, but it's up to you if you read them or not.

There are worse things than not having your beliefs shared. I mean, with this, you kind of have to have your own experiences, I guess, to believe other people's. And if you haven't, then how can you believe? Unless you really want to believe, I guess, but that's harder. I know Thomas, in the Bible, had to put his hand in one of Jesus's wounds to believe that he had risen from the dead. He thought it was a look alike or something!

Well, I hope you are having a lovely week! Our leader wrote a nice blog recently, about a visit from her son. You might want to check that out on her page, if you haven't seen it yet.

No, you don't understand. I have a gift. I can hear the dead. My cat is still popping in to visit me. He literally woke me up the other morning with his meowing. And a couple weeks ago, he brushed past my leg in the dining room. And I saw him outside a week or two before that, and he's like made of this golden light now. If someone really loves you, they'll come and visit you after they've crossed over. But not everyone notices. You have to have the gift.

My grandpa, was in a wheelchair for thirty years, the entire time I knew him. And after he died, I received a visitation, and he was walking around. This is nothing I could have imagined, because it had NEVER happened before! If you don't see a spirit after their passing, you might be able to have a dream about them. Perhaps you can remember a dream like that. Spirits resort to visit us in our dreams, since most people can't discern their presence. Gaelic people have a long history with having the gift. It's been well documented.

Hi, how is everyone doing? We're doing fine. DH is doing well with his radiation and my mammo and ultrasound are good. We've had some hot days like in the 90s but feel like the 100s. Feels a little cooler, like in the 90s. Still hot though.
I've been trying to work on my family tree, my Ancestry subscription runs out end of this month. I'll still be able to work on it but not get into all the documents etc that I can as a member.
I forget to get on and update the National Day of on my page, but I did put July on today.

Not a great deal happening in Crawford Court but our weather is still not very seasonal. It's been dry, more or less for the last couple of days and yesterday was quite warm, around 70 but today it is decidedly chilly with temperature barely into the 50s with a cold north wind. Still, I get my laundry dried outside so not all bad and yesterday I got some sweetpeas planted for summer colour, well I hope so anyway.

Hope everything is going well or at least better for you and your family.

Auna, when I took care of my mom, she had a bell she would ring during the night and after she passed, I could still hear that bell for quite some time. So I know what you mean hearing his meowing. We lost our dog in 2004 and I still miss her but it does get better. You remember the good times. Everything takes time and everyone goes at their own pace at healing. Take care.

Thank you, Court. I'm still feeling pretty dejected about it. I actually heard him meowing the other morning, so I guess he's going to be popping in and out to say hello. That might help me. I just don't think I'll feel happy, truly happy, for a long while. I've just resigned myself to that. It's easier to not try to cheer myself up. In the past, I've noticed that can just make you feel empty and sadder. I'm trying to be thankful, though, for our time with him. We had over a decade, and that's not so bad, is it? He was about fifteen.

Well, I guess that you'll have to go visit the other site if you want to know what it is you are supposed to be doing. It sounds intriguing! What is the other site?

Auna, so sorry for the loss of your cat. I had a dog, so I know how they are part of our family. I agree with Sally, it is very upsetting.

There was something I started here on another site Scottish forum, but forget what it is I'm suppose to be doing.
