After several warm days, it is getting cold again. No rain, just cold temps.

There seems to be so much to get done this week. Being away for almost 2 weeks sure messes up my schedule. I got the laundry done and cleaned about 1/2 of the house and will finish the rest tomorrow. I have been working on the thank you notes for DH's step dad's funeral (flowers). I have most of them done. Talked to his mom today and she seems to be doing well. We will be going back there for a long weekend in about 3 weeks.

Hope you all are having a good week so far.

I'm soooo tired. I went to PT at 8am; dropped some books off at the library; did 50 minutes on the elliptical (468 calories burned). went to the grocery, put the groceries away, made a pumpkin pie for dessert (having a guest tonight), and gave Vic lunch.

I just want to take a nap or sit and rest. But I can't until the pie is done.

Rebecca: What do you mean by dormant and burned out? It would seem that as long as people post it's active, and some folks post something every day, right? It is true that some share more than others, but in general, some people are more introvert and do not easily share. The more you give the more you get, the way I see it. Others may not be so trusting because of past experiences or because of the way they were brought up. Everyone must find his/her comfort zone, no?

Good morning ladies! This thread has been kind of dormant, is anyone feeling burned out? Nomi, I know you're having computer troubles.

I'm feeling good today and think I'm going to go to the Y for some "extra credit" fitness minutes. I'm really itching to swim some laps, which I'm hoping will warm up my muscles and prevent my arms and shoulders from getting so sore. I need to remember to stretch well after my workout, I'm not too good about that.

I also need to clean the apartment this week. A good friend is coming over for a sleepover on Friday and I want the apartment to look nice. I think it will improve my mood and bring my stress level down to have it neat and tidy.

My other mini-goal for the day is to get in 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. I did pretty well yesterday, I got in 4, so I'm proud of myself. I just need one extra serving today.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Good morning everyone! I had a really nice weekend, but I went way overboard on unhealthy food, and the scale showed it this morning. I'm going to have to work really hard to undo some of the damage, but I feel that I'm up to the challenge.

Gail, you asked if anyone had studied another language. I'm pretty good at picking up foreign languages and have studied many. In college I majored in French and minored in Russian, and have also studied Spanish, German, and Italian. I absolutely love listening to people speak other languages, whether I understand them or not.

I need to get ready to go to the Y in about 15 minutes. I hope everyone has a great, healthy week!

My oldest granddaughter, Hannah, is coming for lunch today with her boyfriend. She is going to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee next fall and is quite excited about that, though she still has no clue as to what her major will be. She knows that she wants to minor in French. When she gets to Milwaukee she's also interested in studying Polish. Anyone out there speak another language?

Going to exercise and get a few things at the grocery today.

Have a good day, everyone.

Gail

Harplute, indeed, you are a great friend. If I lived near by you, I'd cook up dinner and bring it over to you & Vic. Sorry that your friend is going thru some hard time, hope they recuperate fast. Next, let's not rush the weekend, my friend. I'm enjoying my 2 days off!

Well I really don't know what the people at work think we are but then again, men! This will be the 3rd time they're changing the hours. I've been working 7-3p, which I like, then 3p-11p, rotating every 28 days. Well, NOW, they're planning to change it to 6a-2p; 2p-10p. Who do they think I am? A robot?! I don't mind the hours, but come on, I do have a life and I don't need to have my hours changed every 6 wks. I like these hrs, because it will give me time to do my walks, whenever, spring gets here!

I have a friend who had knee surgery last month. His wife has MS and other serious health problems and he has been caring for her for years while holding down a full-time job as a master chef. He has been cooking, cleaning, taking her to medical appointments, etc. She fell and broke her foot last fall. During rehab she was in a nursing home for a few months. He visited her every single day and called a couple of times during the day. He will be off work recuperating until the end of March. His sister stayed with them for a month but had to go back home to Israel, so now they are alone. I've been calling asking if they need me to do something, but he says they're all right. I thought I'd bring dinner over today. No, I don't cook as well as he does, but hey, at least it will be good enough and he can be off his feet.

It just occurred to me that today is Saturday. (For some reason it felt like yesterday was Saturday.) I think I'll go to the library and pick up the books they're holding.

Have a happy day everyone.

Sending you all lots of hugs,

Gail

Nancy sorry for the ordeal. Ive been hearing a lot of sad stuff waiting to hear the good. You know we will be here for you.

Well that was short-lived the food. But I did get to the gym again today.

I'm going to my daughter tomorrow and won't be home till Wed. Longer if the weather is not good.

I'll try to keep in touch while there. My SIL will be away on business so I'm helping out. She can't do it herself on the 2 days she works as she has to leave before school starts and is home after daycare closes.

Have a good evening.

Gail,
My thinking is "Pray for Peace" serves us all
within our families, homes, schools, workplace, cities, world etc.

Probably naive, but we have to begin somewhere..
and this is a fine caring group. Thanks much
for asking..Nan

Hi:

I just finished cleaning and sanitizing with the help of a friend. I also made home-made apple sauce and a sour dough rye bread. I started at about 7am and did about 2 hours of heavy cleaning, three of light cleaning.

I will read for the rest of the day and take it easy. I'll pass on the gym. I'm reading METRO GIRL, by Janet Evanovich.
------

Nancy: I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

Rebecca: You are a lady on the run. You seem to go away every weekend. Good for you! Enjoy yourself.

Nana: Hope everything is going well for you today. I cannot help noticing the line at the end of all your postings, "Pray for Peace". Do you live in the town in OH that lost many, many soldiers over in the middle east? Not that that in itself is a reason to pray for peace. If there were peace all over and everyone would stop trying to convert everyone else to their way of thinking life would be good.

Nomi: Glad to hear you got out and were doing better with your food yesterday.

Take care, be well and do good things.

Hugs,

Gail

Hi!! We got back last night. It has been a long and sad 10 days. When we got to KY, DH's step dad was failing badly, so we took him off everything and had hospice some in. He passed away peacefully on the 13th. The hardest part was explaining to DH's mom that he had died...she has alzheimer's. I think it became a reality to her at the funeral when she was presented with the flag. He had pre-arranged his funeral several years ago and that made it easy for us and her. It was a simple, but moving ceremony. There had been so much snow there and it was snowing that morning. We decided that it was just too bad for her to be out in all that, so I took her back to her apartment and DH, our son and 2 grandsons went to the cemetery. He was a good man and the only grandfather my son knew. In fact our oldest grandson was named for him. It was so hard on them, because they have been through so much since the first of the year. They have lost a great grandmother, a great grandfather, and my son's divorce was finalized. The boys are 9 and 7 1/2. DH is retiring on Apr 2 and we will be moving back to KY by the end of May. Hopefully we can be there for them. We will also be able to take care of his mom. She lives in a wonderful assisted living facility and they take very good care of her. It's been hard being 450 miles away and having to deal with the decisions long distance, plus making sudden trips when his step dad or his mom were ill.

I am trying to get caught up and hopefully I will be back posting regularly soon. I am definitely going to need your support to get back on track again.

Gail, Rebecca, Nomi Thanks for always being there.

Good morning everyone! Hi Karen and Shelly, it's nice to see some new faces on this thread.

Karen, I can definitely relate to how you're feeling. Stress can pack on the pounds for me, or at least make my progress stop, stress usually put my on a plateau where I can't lose no matter what I do. Don't worry about venting, this is just the place to do it, where people understand where you're coming from.

Gail and Nomi, I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. Because of my depression I have a lot of periods where I don't want to do anything, I simply can't. I'm slowly coming out of one of those periods right now, and it's overwhelming to think of all of the cleaning I have to do because I've let the apartment go for so long.

I had a good workout at the Y yesterday, and I'm glad I have a day off today. I'm looking forward to going tomorrow and then having the weekend off. I'm going up to Chicago with an old high school friend to the Chicago auto show, I'm really looking forward to that.

I hope that you all feel better and have a great day!

Karen - yes - I can totally relate!! Family drama sucks!!! And certaily vent away - you gotta get it out somewhere! I used to have a very strong and fun family life - we were a blended family - I have one natural brother and 6 step brothers and sisters. Our family fell apart after the death of my dad (step), my sister (step), my uncle and grandmother all in less than 3 years. Although I tried to hang on to memories and the belief that we could all overcome this grief and be happy again - I finally had to come to terms with the fact that my family is toxic. Toxic to each other and toxic to me. I still have my natural brother and my mom and we are close. And it hurt like hell to walk away - but for me - it was the second most empowering thing that I have done for myself.

I don't know your story - but I totally get the stress and the toll it takes on us. I am so sorry that you are having to deal with family issues - its aweful. My suggestion would be only to stay true to yourself. If you are true - and your intentions are pure - things will work out for YOU.

~Shelly~

Nomi: I'm reading Robert Parker books. Yesterday I read School Days and today I'll start Hundred Dollar Baby. The books I am reading are all part of his Spenser series.

I know just how you feel. All I want to do is s read and eat. But for today I did some stuff: sanitized the kitchen and washed the floor; folded laundry and put it away, went to a PT appointment, worked out for 50 minutes on the elliptical and burned 486 calories, prepared Vic's lunch and made a big pot of Italian meatballs.

Now all I want to do is NOTHING.

Lots of hugs to you all,

Gail

Hi fellow EE's, I'm feeling like crap already this Ash Wednesday. For Lent I was going to give up either chocolate/smoking and both have been blown already.
With family problems going on since way back in Aug. of last summer I guess I've bee neglecting myself, not particpating on Spark and losing a lot of sleep stressing over things I have no control over. I've never cried this much in my life. And to top if off I got on the scale and f****** saw that I have gained about 25 lbs!!! Now I'm pissed and still want to eat.
Does anybody out there relate or going through or gone through stressfull fighting with family?

Sorry for being so negative and the venting, but I'm just not feeling good about my family relationships and I'm eating way too much and in a way it's so hard to get back on trck, but I've been tryig the past 2 days, then binging on chocolate. emoticon

Morning All: I needed to sanitize the kitchen this morning. I made a mess the past couple of days cooking. I've just the floor left to do.

I read and read yesterday. I've been knocking off at least 1-2 books a day! The more I read the more addicted I become. That's an addictive personality for you.

Nomi: Please post and let us know if you are ok. Stay in touch, I have the feeling you might be down in the dumps.

Going to PT this morning so I've got to get going.

Hi everyone! Andasi, you can access the book bonus site by going to SparkPeople.com/TheSpark. I think that's all you need to do, but if you have any more questions send me a private message and I'll help any way I can!

CoolGrandma, congratulations on the 6 day streak, that's great!

I gave into emotional eating last night, but I'm determined not to beat myself up about it. I at least sort of faced my feelings. I was watching Lost on TV, and got the craving for some microwave popcorn. I recognized that I wasn't hungry, but was bored and a little anxious. I gave in and had the popcorn, and as soon as I finished the bag I knew for sure it was EE because I was craving more food. Luckily it stopped there and I only went over my calories by about 30. Hopefully next time I'll be stronger, but I'm so glad I avoided a binge!

Does anyone know where Gail is this morning? Hopefully she'll check in later.

I'm going to the Y to work out after I finish on the computer, I'm looking forward to it. Have a great day!

Good morning everyone! Gail, thanks for the jokes, it's nice to start my morning off with a laugh! I really liked your latest blog, sorry my response was so long.

Penny, I would love information on the journaling class that you're taking, thank you! I absolutely love to journal and, for the first time, have begun to go back and read past entries. I use two asterisks at the beginning of an entry that I want to remember and be able to refer back to. I'm actually doing three journals right now: my morning pages, an anytime journal, and SP's journal, which I use to reflect on the daily quote from the Healthy Reflections e-mail.

I've been reading The Spark, I finished chapter two yesterday. It really helped me to set concrete goals and timelines for achieving them, and gave me a sense of inspiration and direction. I really like it so far, and have also been reading all of the articles recommended as bonus reading in the book bonus site.

I had a good workout yesterday, I'm glad I'm taking a day off today and look forward to going tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

***Keep Your Eyes Open***

Tom and Darryl were out hunting deer.

Tom asked, "Did you see that?"..."No," Darryl replies.

"Well, a bald eagle just flew overhead."..."Oh," responded Darryl.

A couple of minutes later, Tom said, "Did you see that?"

"See what?"

"Are you blind?

There was a big, black bear walking on that hill,
over there."

"Oh."

A few minutes later Tom again said, "Did you see that?"

By now, Darryl is getting aggravated, so he says..."Yes, I did!" emoticon

And Tom says..........."Then why did you step in it?"

Rebecca, I am glad that you are feeling better. By the way, I am taking a journaling class right now. It is fantastic. Let me know if you want the info. on it.

Gail, your Valentine's Day sounds as if it were perfect. That is wonderful.

Nothing much is new here. We did have Nathan for his overnight last weekend. Grammy and Nathan had fun at Chuck E. Cheese's, 2 1/2 hours worth. Big kids and small kids alike love the games. I perfected my basketball shooting.

I hope that you all have a great day. I woke up to another winterland this morning. Enough with the snow!! Come on, spring!!!

Hugs,
Penny emoticon

An Englishman, a Frenchman and an American were arguing about the nationality of Adam and Eve.

"They must have been English,' declares the Englishman. 'Only a gentleman would share his last apple with a woman.'

'They were undoubtedly French,' says the Frenchman. 'Who else could seduce a woman so easily?'

'I think they were Russian,' says the American.

'After all, who else could walk around stark naked, feed on one apple between the two of them and think they were in paradise?'

Good morning everyone! Gail, I don't know what's going on with the boards, I haven't been having any problems.

CoolGrandma, it's so great to have you back. Congratulations on your streak, I think that one day at a time is the only way to go to build success.

I got another good night's sleep last night and am finally feeling back to normal. I felt pretty lonely as the day went on, I didn't hear from any of my friends and just couldn't reach out as I felt I would've been bothering them. I feel like I'm not getting a lot of support from my friends, and it really hurts me. I need to journal more about it and get my feelings sorted out.

I'm going to eat some breakfast here in a minute and am planning on going to the Y after I finish on the computer. I haven't been to the Y since February 1st, but I haven't felt good at all either. So, I'm going to try to start a new streak as well.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning Team:

Yesterday was very, very nice and quite romantic. I made a special dinner and gave Vic a Valentine. When he returned from the hospital he brought me flowers and a card. Then, in the evening he played romantic serenades for me on the piano. Mmm, nice.

He just went for his 8th treatment in the go-round. We'll go to the gym when he comes home and run an errand or two. Some time today I'll make a sour dough bread...got to use the starter I fed a few days ago. I think I'll do a rye.

I don't know what got into me yesterday but I was a real klutz when I was cooking. I'll give the kitchen a "quick and dirty" sanitizing and cleaning. I saw or felt a whole bunch of stuff fall during my preps and couldn't find the messy spots.

Hugs to you all and have a happy day.

PS Something strange is going on. When I look at my "Recent posts" I see Teejay was the last to post here. Yet, when I come on the last post I see is coolgrandma's. This has happened many times before. Anyone know what's going on?

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

Gail, thank you for the jokes. My husband enjoyed reading them since he's Norwegian.Yes, Wisconsin is a German state, but didn't know about Norwegians. There's a nice German restaurant in Milwaukee we usually go to meet my aunt for dinner. We went out for Greek dinner tonight. I only ate not even a 1/2 of it and brought it home. While on the treadmill for 30 mins, busy watching the Olympics.

I'm really getting tired of this cold weather. I miss doing my walks on the trails. I was enjoying my 3-day weekend, I can't believe I have to go work tomorrow.

Hope you had a nice Valentine's Day and didn't eat too much chocolates!
