Good Morning from Carol J. Have plenty of food in cupboards and fridge and am about to clean very large amount of strawberries that friend picked yesterday.
Listened to sermon on TV this morning. Haven't been in car for nearly two weeks. Plenty to do indoors, but life does get a little boring. Glad I can use computer to get in touch with all you Sparkies.
Hope all are staying well and surviving this unbelievable ordeal.

Didn't go to PT today, but exercise knee at home. Plan to do some Chair Exercises and Tai Chi which I haven't done in years. We can substitute.
Hope all are braving the storm.
Sure are saving gas money as our excursion every day is to ride in golf cart to take trash to dumpster and then ride around our park.

Good Morning!
I look at all the food we have and how to make it stretch. That helped me out a lot yesterday and kept me from snacking and nibbling all day. Our daughter works in the grocery business, the shelves are so bare but is doable. May not be what you were planning to eat for dinner, but it will work.

CarrolJ35 ..... I completely agree with what you are saying. It is hard NOT to give up sometimes but then you will have thrown away what you have worked so hard for. We will all get through this.. emoticon

HUBBARD9644, Thank you for the encouragement, and I agree with you completely!

Carol you are right, let's "lean on each other" when you need an encouraging word or idea. Don't throw in the towel, you've come a long way to not see it through. We will get creative in our workouts. Go for short walks, outside or in your home; use your resources in your home to help with weights, ie: can goods, yard work. You get the idea, let's stand strong and united in this time of uncertainty. Hugs and prayers, God bless.

The situation we are in today plus the extra pressure I have at home sometimes makes me feel like "throwing in the towel". But why give up on the 12 years of progress I have under my belt. My knee is still troublesome and I'm going to PT 2 days a week. Water aerobics has always been my favorite form of exercise and tonight they closed the pool until April 30.
Many things against us these days.
We must encourage each other!!!

We are less likely to hit the local fast food places for food emoticon emoticon and find ourselves cooking here at home. emoticon

Some days I also think this weight thing is not worth the effort, but when Lent starts, I always stop eating sweets and desserts. That is one big help for me. I am down about 4 lbs. and know it is because I avoid sweets. It's really hard for me to pass up my son's birthday cake, but I saw it all day and ate none. Some days I eat all vegetables and fruits., Try it, one day!

CAROLJ35 ..... Your so positive today and that feels so good to me! emoticon
Thank you so much for getting me and I'm sure others, up and moving again emoticon

I have been in a ruff patch for so long. Don't get me wrong, I get up every morning determined that today is THE DAY!

Here's the thing..... It's ok to be feeling low, I have so many times, but please NEVER give up on yourself! WE ARE WORTH IT!

I go from feeling high on life, to feeling lower than low, but I get up and go through the motions each day. I went through this before when I dropped 60 pounds, I got up one morning and something just clicked and every morning I made the decision that that day was worth the effort. Evenings are my battle grounds..... it's when the little voices in my head start to whisper to my common sense and warp the way I see and know things to be. There are times that I will look down and realize that I have finished off a piece of cake and I am diabetic with my sugar levels way out of control.....

I'm a work in progress and forgiving myself every day is part of the battle. emoticon

Looks like I just made another blog emoticon

Started the day measuring all my food. Then got side-tracked. One of these days I will get all meals measured. But I did eat healthy foods all day. Salmon and Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes hit the spot for dinner.
Friend picked strawberries this morning and supplied us with a big bag full. Yum!

When I first started, I planned and tracked in advance. It really helped me figure out what worked and what left me wanting. Indygirl taught me that combining protein and fiber foods were the most satisfying meals or snacks.

My favorites
1 Tbsp warmed PB and an apple
Veggies and 2 Tbsp hummus
Mozzarella stick and veggies
Fruit and a hard boiled egg.

Amazing how full you feel and how long that feeling lasts

OMG! Double lung transplant. Where was this done? As he gets better I'll bet you will be able to concentrate a little more on yourself and your program and won't be so worried about him.
With my husband's problems, I know I sometimes have no interest in taking care of myself. Very difficult to put oneself first.

POSITIVEHOPE..... I never realized that cheese and brownies had the same calorie count.... that's interesting and good to know. Thank you for sharing!

CAROLJ35 ..... Good step choosing the yogurt in place of the ice cream. Try freezing yogurt to use as ice cream.

DH and I have fairly relaxing day's now due to his recovery from the double lung transplant. Friday was the first day for him to get back into a store to walk and shop for Valentine goodies for the GC. Of course that was with a face mask and side stepping away from anyone that got to close. He also kept his hands in his pockets so he wasn't tempted to touch anything but all in all, he had a good time away from the house.

Thanks for info. I have calorie count for regular black olives, but ones on my salad were several different kinds of Greek olives. Some were seedless, some weren't, and some were a purplish color and there were a lot.
But the last two evenings I took a little container of yogurt when DH had ice cream. That's one step in right direction. Little by little!

When I eat out, I always ask for salad dressing on the side. Dip your fork in the dressing and then spear the salad.A reasonable portion is 2 Tbsp. If you need more, ask for lemon wedges.

Black olives are about 10 cal a piece, If feta was your only protein, the slab might just work. When eyeballing cheese for a portion, I think of a small piece of fudge as a one ounce size. Strangely, cheese and fudge have the same calorie values per same size portion. Helps me remember to keep the portion small.

Still need to weigh and measure and track food. Doing a little better, though. Went with friends for lunch yesterday and ordered Greek Salad which was so big I couldn't eat it all, but have no idea of how many calories in many black olives, dressing, and large slice of Feta cheese, but oh, so good.

And I'm still eating sweets. WHY? I can quit "cold turkey" if I try..I also keep DH's goodies in house but don't necessarily eat his. I eat other things I shouldn't.
I also need to track but slow internet has limited my time on SP. Going to use son's hot spot so maybe I can get tracking foods. At least I got an hour of water aerobics in today!

Two days of poor choices and not sure why. I am focusing on today and getting myself in check. I want to lose 20 pounds by mid June. I am sabotaging myself by buying snacks for my husband to enjoy and I have helped myself to them also. I am an emotional eater, if I am bored I will eat, etc. I have to give myself a pep talk and reel it in. I have made good progress and I don't want to go backwards any further. I read everyone's success' and am happy and inspired, why do I let myself go down that road of poor choices, I know where it leads. Having a bit of anger at myself this morning. I will get back on track today.

Glad you are feeling better, Debbie. About 1 year ago, Dr. decided I needed to start Metformin taking 1 pill per day, then was upped to 2 per day. In mid-December I started an herbal pill called Cura Lin and the first day it really lowered my readings. Soon I was off the Metformin. Today I got results of A1C test and doctor was very pleased. Just hope this continues to work for me.
Our daughter is a diabetes specialist in Columbus, OH schools and she has coached me on this.
Hope your program goes well, too.

78* here yesterday and we are getting a possible freeze tonight. I re-covered the outside water facets, re-filled the bird and squirrel feeders, made sure that the bird baths had water, brought the potted trees in and deep watered the tropical plants and trees in the garage, and started the laundry.

I feel good today!

I am still adjusting to the insulin shots and have had to make some changes in doses but so far it seems to be working. Never wanted to get on insulin but I do have to say that it is helping me with several diabetic issue that I was having to deal with. My skin isn't all flaky and dry like it was, I am not getting up every 2 hours to potty, I haven't had that all consuming hunger that followed me through each and every day/ ALL DAY, I'm not as thirsty all the time, I am much more alert, happier, less grumpy, and more energetic. I still get that nap time scenario around 2pm but I think that may just be habit for me and for Ronan, my furr-grandpuppy.....

Today was not a good day as we had big dinner after Celebration of Life for 13 residents who lived in our resort and passed away this past year. Tomorrow I will track food. Tuesday we will be on boat trip where dinner is served. I have ordered prime rib but don't know what sides are. Then back on track on Wednesday.
I am ready to get started on this journey to weight loss.

CarolJ35 . I was you the past couple of weeks. I haven't been here for years and so much has changed.

I felt that I spent the whole week reading and trying to do things they suggest on here. I was overwhelmed too. I am making a concerted effort to track all my food and check the ingredients after a week. I am not getting enough protein, so I'm trying to start there.

I still read articles but this week I'll add something else like exercise or water. I used to be so good at getting my water in, but back then I was still working and had a routine. I find that's what I need to eventually work things into for myself, that way I won't get distracted which I can do quite easily.

One foot in front of the other ... lets do it together.

Oh ... I have a Shorkie who we adopted at 6 months after 2 other owners. He's a sweet boy but can be a little Imp if he is lacking too much attention LOL

Have a good day everyo emoticon ne

Re-establishment of my goals is where I start. Then I go to tracking and I don’t Track hard at first... I wade in.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now.

Thanks for suggestions. I shall start tracking food to begin. One step at a time when I had been feeling overwhelmed with everything. Thanks for encouragement.

Itís hard to get back on the wagon sometimes. I found I was striving for perfect which is a lousy choice.

I suggest you start with just tracking honestly to see where you are. It will let you see your macros and what you are choosing frequently. Be sure to check your fiber because itís key to feeling full.

After a week of honest tracking, you will be in a good place to chose your next step. Eat more veggies, drink more water, eat more healthy foods. Like Indygirl says, choose what you want to ADD to your plan not what will make you feel restricted and deprived.

We have no pets, but enjoy 4 dogs when at our son's house.
I'd like to chat about "getting back on the wagon".
I've maintained a 50 lb. weight loss for about 10 years - within 5 lbs. of that. Now 15 lbs. sneaked back on and I just can't get back to the losing mode where I weigh and measure, log everything, skip the butter and sweets.
Any suggestions???

An adorable German Shepherd rescue and an Amazon parrot who can be incredibly noisy and only talks when he wants to. I still miss our little Yorkie. The Shepherd is a little big to be a lap dog but loves to snuggle. She's a jumper. Wish I had half of her energy and athletic ability!

I have one smart, sassy, nosy cat named Rowdy. He wants to be wherever we are.

We had 3 dogs and a cat when my 2 kids were still at home. Now it's just Jim and I and we like to travel so we don't have any pets. My 2 now grown up kids both have cats for their own kiddos. emoticon

We live in the country and we were gifted with a "dump" dog about 4 years age. He looks a lot like a Yorkshire Terrier. He made himself at home on our deck, so I fed him and he's made himself at home since then. He's a sweet dog and it's nice that he liked us enough to adopt us.

Yes, I have a dog and my husband has a cat.

From lovely San Juan, Puerto Rico and loving the beach!!!

There's nothing wrong with using the word "diet". It comes from the Greek word "diaita", meaning way of life. So to lose weight and keep it off we need to change our way of life.
