I am used to adding potato to make a creamy soup. Cauliflower sounds like a good alternative.

Your broth reads like wonderful stock!!

I've also been making a hearth vegetable soup every night. They have been delicious, too. I've been adding roast chicken to my portion at the end. The person I'm cooking for likes meat on the side.

So spinach, kale, canned tomatoes, cannellini beans, onion, broccoli, peppers, figured heavily in the first soup.

And last night I made a light creamy cauliflower soup with only cauliflower, onion, stock, and seasonings. I was following an American test kitchen recipe or procedure. They cooked half the cauliflower with leek and onion in stock for 15 minutes. Then they added the rest of the chopped cauliflower and cooked for another 15 minutes with seasonings (I just used salt and pepper). That was blended to a creamy puree. It was fantastic and simple. You could really taste the cauliflower.

I'll make sure I've added cauliflower when I want a creamed soup or sauce in the future! It should help me cut back on the starchy thickeners.

I'm enjoying bone soup with each evening meal
Often just the stock - sometimes made into potato, squash or tomato soup More adventures await us!

Chicken or turkey leg bones in crockpot with two quarts water [or vegetable water from cooking that I now save in the freezer now] 2 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar, celery, clove of garlic, red onion, carrots or sweet potatoe and rosemary and thyme nd black pepper. simmer for 24 hours, strain and put into half pint canning jars ...keeping some in refridg and some in the freezer for future use.

I made a yummy soup with kale, orzo, beans, mushrooms, onion and garlic. Not overflowing with AA foods, but simple, tasty, and comforting. I also made watercress soup. So yummy!

Oooops - forgot to share the bone broth I am working on in the crockpot - promises to be the base of many new comfort food soups for the winter. We have written recipe for our tomato soup with home canned tomatoes now..will fine tune it a bit but is Nummy.

Well, I went downhill before it really got better
Kidney pain and bladder infection hit me Saturday Antibiotics are finally beginning to work and the fever is easing off. Now to keep the probiotics on top of candida that always hits me after antibiotics... Crazy world of medicine! But I know my immune system is much stronger for having worked so hard on GOOD nutrition this year.

My goto "finally getting better" food was always canned peaches in syrup, toast, and tea with milk and sugar. I still like that, but now I think I need more nutrition.

Now, I make my own juice first, as soon as I can. Then I add cooked fruit, usually using Fuhrman's blueberry banana crumble recipe: frozen blueberries, frozen banana, 1/4 c. oats, 2 T juice (pomegranate or cherry), and microwave 3 minutes, stirring when done. I don't add flax seed just yet. that will be a little later. I will use mixed berries the next day with lots of strawberries for vitamin C to help my body fight off the infection.

Next is a grain like rice or multigrain bread toast. If that goes well, I'll add almond butter to the toast and dip it in yogurt. I always figure I need to get the flora going strong again.

Then I'll start adding cooked veggies to the rice.

By this time, I can pretty much tolerate eating anything.

Have had terrible tummy bug for several days.... If it doesn't get better I may end up with Dr.

Clear liquids for a day then
For today I have had jello [one packet flavored and one packet plain gelatin mixed in one quart water] , yogurt and applesauce and one lightly scrambled egg ... nothing else.
Tummy is still cramping and painful. OUCH ... so what do you start with when you are recouperating from flu bugs???

I made a pretty good pumpkin/apple/raisin casserole with pumpkin spice, walnuts, almond milk (and 2 non AA eggs). I used 1 small can cooked pumpkin, 2 apples, 1/4 c. golden raisins and walnut pieces, a sprinkle of pumpkin spice and about 1 c almond milk.

I didn't need to add any sweetener, and I felt like I was having a dessert I shouldn't have. With all those AA ingredients, I think this could become my Thanksgiving pumpkin pie.

Wow!! Chai tea would be amazing today. I wonder if I can tolerate it? If so, I'll have for breakfast or bedtime soothing time. Thanks for the reminder!!

My comfort food this week turned out to be scrambled egg crumbled into cream of broccoli soup. So hot soup is still figuring into my goto comfort foods as I recover from the stint at the hospital.

I was still on a bland diet since getting out of the hospital. The family went to Golden Corral. It's amazing how much a bland, low residue diet resembles the SAD. Well, I was determined to get at least 1 AA ingredient. They still had scrambled eggs from breakfast. And the Broccoli soup for lunch. I put them both together and that was the best thing I had eaten since all of this started. I considered apple or blueberry pie for another AA boost, but opted out because of all the fat and sugar.

And my body is craving apple and carrot juice (home juiced) so that will figure into today's menu. USUALLY, my comfort food cravings don't revert to the old SAD menu items anymore.

Interesting that the things I really want right now are probably the things my body needs: broccoli, apple, carrot.

I'm actually wanting some rice, too, but NOT white rice. I think I'll wait a few days until I can have the brown whole grain or wild rice, and I can add a bunch of stir fried veggies to the rice bowl. BEFORE spark people, I would have gone for the Minute Rice with butter when ill or wanting comfort food.

Hot comfort food

Black chai tea ... Oh this was sooooo good tonight after delicious chef salad
I stirred in a bit of local honey which is another AA food nd just breathed in the steam, enjoyed the taste and SMILED....
The grocery store I went to with best girlfriend today has the best selection of teas in the county I think... budget limited me but I will have 20 days of enjoyment from my splurge!

Hot comfort food - but must be only prior to noon and alternate days...
"My homemade mocca"
8 ounce coffee 1 Tbsp dark cocoa powder 2 tbsp. dry milk 1pkg stevia 1tsp vanilla 8 ounces hot water... I put this in pint glass tea jar for travel on Sunday Mornings to church, in a large mug when at home ... I vary this often with other flavors - love a bit of peppermint! also use other forms of milk and in the summer I ice it. But the dark chocolate nd coffee stay constant.

Have been away for a while but returning to fine tune this aspect of my eating...
Still needing to loose weight and emphasis has been heart healthy this summer after getting two heart stents May 23rd - doing well with that recovery and this eating plan works well with the DASH diet for hypertension so going to work them together. Good to be back!

For lunch, my comfort food in the fall is hot homemade soup. I have 2 recipes. The first takes a lot of effort to prepare, but it makes a LOT, and freezes well in ziploc food storage bags after they cool off. The 2nd is ready from prep to finish in under an hour because of the use of a pressure cooker. It's delicious with a little vinegar added at the table. I prefer balsamic, but others like apple cider vinegar.

Warm comfort food favorite for a very cold morning (for me, this is a comfort breakfast for any morning)

Mix 1/2 c. whole oats with
1 T concentrated pomegranate juice to make 1/4 c
1/2 c frozen blueberries
1 serving dried berries (mine has cherries, strawberries, blueberries) reconstituted in the pomegranate juice OR chopped or grated fresh apple
1/2 fresh or frozen banana (this isn't anti-angiogenic, but adds a natural sweetener to this cobbler)
1 T flax or hemp seeds

Microwave 2 minutes. Stir. Microwave 1 more minute.

Top with your favorite anti-angiogenic nuts. I like walnuts with this.

If you substitute chopped or grated apple for the dried fruit, add a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Go ahead. Try it. You just might have this for a fantastic healthy dessert, too.
