What's your favorite way to eat your Omega-3s?

Flaxseed
Salmon
Enriched eggs
Walnuts
Soybeans and/or tofu
Sardines
Canola oil
Olive oil
Pecans
None of the above

For me itís eggs, using olive oil, nuts and cold water fish.

Question about exercise: YES! Exercise is a must! I do something nearly every day, be it run, walk, strength train.

And how I spent Christmas - well, we did most of our family stuff on Christmas Eve and also had a visitor from out of town...on Christmas Eve I also went running with friends. Christmas day I got up early and ran with the same group of friends, had coffee with them, and then came home and cooked our turkey and meal. It was very low key for us as we had done most of the festivities the day before. I love the quietness of the day, just my DH and me - sometimes a friend, sometimes our kid, but this year it was just the two of us. After we ate early in the afternoon we cleaned up the whole kitchen and then as we traditionally do, we opened the gifts late in the afternoon. We love to open our stuff later in the day because then we have something to look forward to.

We try not to go to very many parties anymore, but it is more of a time issue than anything. As far as the food goes, if we do go to a gathering, I plan ahead and try to eat well before and after - that way I can indulge a bit at the party. It is once a year so I do like to treat myself a bit but with the idea that another year will arrive and I can have it again another time - so I try not to go overboard. It is hard though - yesterday I had too many cookies at work!

What is your holiday party strategy?

Avoid them at all costs!

Portion control

Fill up with healthy foods before the party

Bring my own diet-friendly dish

Host the party so I'm in control

Indulge, but make up for it at the gym

For me itís everything in moderation. After all Christmas only comes once a year!

Cold weather doesn't make me hungrier but the amount of food that is available this time of year definitely causes me to be a bit more self indulgent than I would like!

Fortunately I haven't had to in a while since I've maintained for a few years now. But when I did lose, I would always buy things when the clothes got too be too baggy. I don't like baggy clothes. And I would also buy a couple of fresh items each season for motivation and fun and to keep things fresh. I think having new clothes is a nice reward for weight loss if one can afford it.

I either ask for plain oil and vinegar in the side or more often than not I take my own dressing. I try to go to places where I know what I am getting but of course that isn't always possible - so if all else fails, a Caesar salad with no dressing is pretty harmless and most places have that.

How do you usually lighten up your restaurant orders?

Ask for no butter/oil
Ask for dressing/sauce on the side
Split the meal with a friend/take other half to-go
Replace meat with beans
Order smaller portion/half order
I don't eat out
Something else not listed here

I always have the salad dressing on the side and take part home for another meal.

Not really. I've accepted that my bod likes a different weight than I do. I'm older, my metabolism has slowed and I have pain issues. I've regained 10-15 pounds of the 40 I lost and have maintained that for almost 10 years. I'm satisfied with that.

My weight doesn't factor in to my happiness so much...good health does factor in however. I may not be "happy" with my weight on a particular day, but I also don't let that rule my life - it is just a number and I work hard to be healthy - that is more important to me.

I used to be a social worker right out of college. That was a long time ago but I do recall one woman who I guess I would say was homeless. Hers was a very sad story. Nashville seems to have a terrible homeless situation, and I am afraid it is going to get worse...many of our older neighborhoods are becoming gentrified and people are being forced out of their homes. It's crazy. I have a fear of being homeless because I have heard terrible things happen to women out on the street. I am so grateful for my house.

I have moved many times so had many homes.
Itís true Home is where the heart is, I made a house into a home right away.
Today I had a charity appeal by the Salvation Army for the homeless. So this question gave me a push. I will put a donation in the envelope .

Today is National ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD Day. Here's a quote from the announcement:
National Roof Over Your Head Day is about remembering to appreciate what you have. This day follows closely after Thanksgiving, a day to be thankful. So just like Thanksgiving, be thankful for what you do have and always remember, that it is a better feeling than worrying about what you do not have.

Do you have any direct experience with homelessness or know of others who have been (or are) in this dilemma?

Iím so greatful that my needs have always been met. I am the president of a board that houses women with mental illness - some have been homeless. Also at our Church, I am in charge of all missions and one of our projects is our Personal Care Cupboard. We supply clients with things they canít buy with food stamps.

I don't really have a diet or an eating plan. I just eat. I try to eat mostly whole foods, lots of fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, eggs and a few grains. I try not to eat too much sugar but I treat myself with a little something each day - maybe some 85% dark chocolate or a spoonful of Ben & Jerry's. I also allow myself to have a chai latte several days a week - so I do not feel deprived at all but 80% of the time or more I am eating healthy foods. But I really don't have a plan - I just try to make good choices. I don't track anymore either - I did for about 4.5 years but quit doing that several months ago.

I don't like to use the word "diet". It implies a beginning and an end. I prefer to think of what I'm doing as a lifestyle change, a plan for healthy eating and regular activity.

Do you "Diet" or do you have an "Eating Plan" ?

I have tried diets and have always failed! It much better for me to work on lifestyle changes in both my eating and exercise!

I love crafting, many things that I like to do, such as card making, counted cross stitch and other things. A couple of years ago I made wreaths with my friends. Unfortunately I have such a demanding work schedule and a bad commute so I hardly ever have time for my crafting activities.

I do enjoy crafts. My favorite is Swedish weaving. I've made a number of afghans, a couple of wall hangings and tablecloths. I'm between projects right now.

We put icicle lights on the front of the house. My husband only recently started doing that because he thought I would like it...plus our neighbors on both sides had a lot of lights so he wanted to do a little something.

We have a tree and a wreath and we have a garland on the mantle and a few small decorative items, including a small and very simple wooden nativity that I bought for $5 when I was a college student. I don’t like a lot of clutter so everything is very simple.

A wreath on the door, a small tree that I made inside and some other holiday decorations inside, especially snowmen. But this year just the tree and the wreath.

Do you decorate you home inside and or outside for Christmas?

Since Iím alone, no outside decorations. I only put a wreath on my door and a very small tree.
