Good morning
I just wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone. It's hard sometimes to post since I'm in school and have a lot of homework to do. I'm still smoke free, but I still get the urge every now and then. I am doing well with my weight loss so hopefully i can continue exercising and get healthy. Michelle

Hello Ladies,
It has just turned midnight tonite and I have decided today was the day I stop smoking. I will need alot support on here ladies. I know I can do it. Since the passing of my only sister last year, I was smoking more than ever and eating whatever. I know my sister would want me at my healthiest. She passed away from diabetes at the early age of 44. I miss her so much. Pray for me for I am still greiving for my beloved sister.

Mary I would just like to say that is a great quote! Mickey quitting smoking is difficult but possible. Both of my best friends used to smoke and they have both managed to quit. One of them has started roller derby at the age of forty. I believe that anything is possible if you want it bad enough. Keep up the good work! I'm rooting for you.

Hi Mickey-
Hope that the quitting smoking is going well. Is there some other behavior that is health (so, not snacking which only leads down a bad path!) but like taking a quick walk or going outside, that you can substitute for your smoking?

I find it helpful when I'm trying to talk myself into or out of something, to look for a good quote, for a day or a week... Here is one that I found for you:

Hi Ladies,

I too am fighting weight gain and high blood pressure. I need all the motivation that I can get. Tomorrow is my birthday and I hate how I look. I used to do weight watchers, but I reached a plato and cant shift the weight.

I started off at 202lbs and I now weigh 183lbs. My first goal is 160 lbs and then 140lbs. This will take a long time but by Gods grace and the teams support I will make it.

MickeyD4, quitting smoking is a hard task, what you need to do is find something else to do when you get the urge. Maybe go for a wallk, or give a friend a call. I wish you all the luck and Gods blessings.

My sister had a stroke at 52 because she did not take care of herself and go and get her blood pressure checked, Her weight was very high, no excercise and she paid the price. Now she is faithful with all of it and only plays with 5 or 6 lbs tops. You are what you eat and even good things you can eat too much and gain. That is what I struggle with all the time. I saw first hand what can happen and I do try to watch what I eat. I do need to excercise more.

I'm back.... been gone for awhile now. weight is outrageous. 250pds. need to loose 100pds. i'm now on hbp meds. i'm determined to loose weight. been walking with leslie d.v.d. i'm starting to feel much better. also found out i have R.A. i'm just blessed to be able to move.... i just need to keep my body in motion. alot of the times i dont want to get out of bed, but i push myself to do my walking exercise. i have alot of water weight, i sometimes feel myself swelling up. I missed you guys..... smiles and be blessed!

I have to do something to get back on track, because I am back up over 200 lbs again. That is not good. My blood pressure is also rising. It was fairly good when my weight was down,but now that it is back up so is the blood pressure.

Today is day 1 of my no meat at all. All i will do is fruits and vegetables for three months.last year it was a struggle when i first started. but this year i have my things already prepared for the first two weeks.

I will most definitely keeping working on it, because I have all these aches and pains I didn't have when I had the weight off. I know that I am getting older and I should have some of these aches and pains, but not all the ones I am having now. Glad to be back, so I can get some encouragement from people who are going through the same thing I am.

I have also put 35 lbs of the 70 I lost. I have to get back on track and lose this weight. My blood pressure was through the roof when I went to the cardiologist in August. I go again in December. Hopefully I will have lost some of this weight.

Once again I ready to try and get these last thirty pounds off. I seen my doctor yesterday and he says you gain twelve pounds back,Don't you think we are going in the wrong direction, your blood pressure was down when you had lost the weight now you gain some weight and it's back up again. when you come back in december I want 20 pounds gone or don't come back because you aren't following any of my advice. And then he says yes twenty pounds is durable, that's 2 pounds a week.

Thanks again..wow 6 adults..We have 2 adults and three kids here and the kids really is not the problem..I do cook from scratch more than 90% of the time..We can't afford the prepared meals and we really don't like them anyway..I have made some changes and the husband hasn't noticed much..Like when I cook the veggie's instead of salt I season them with mrs dash..I try to bake my meat if he wants his fried and sometimes the kids choice to have theirs baked also..We use to have to eat alot of beans as kids and that kinda went off the menu as adults,so maybe I need to add them back for a couple of meals..We do eat stuff like frozen fresh field peas and butter beans but not too often..I love okra but only fried and that is not to healthy..I just gotta find better ways to cook things and learn to like them that way..Thank you for the great ideas and tips..I will definitely look it all up and see what I can find..I was doing really good but then it just kinda got old fast because I tried rearranging it all at once..I will take your advice and try again but small steps this time..

Spacecas, there are some great articles on Spark People about eating healthy on a budget! Also, search the internet. You can eat healthy and still keep your food budget reasonable. I still have all my kids at home and my SIL while he looks for a job after law school. It is rough out there so we are feeding 6 adults!! I work hard at making healthy meals and sometimes have to compromise. I use only healthy oils, like canola. I buy fresh fruits and veggies in season and look for inexpensive, lean cuts of meat. Chicken is very healthy and relatively inexpensive and I can make a chicken stretch very far! Beans are a great source of protein and when combined with corn or rice make a great meal! My kids have always loved Red beans and rice!!! Beans are very inexpensive. Work things in slowly to add healthier fare! Don't try to change their eating all at once. It does take longer to cook from scratch but you can lower your sodium a lot by doing that and it is cheaper in the long run!

Thank you Franniedid..But my kids are 13,8,and 3 and add my husband who refuses anything healthy..My 13 year old signed up for spark teen last night and so now I have at least one on board with me..I will remember to lay low on the processed food and another friend said to rinse the canned foods if possible..Not for sure if that would actually work or not..I try to buy more healthy stuff but we are already struggling to pay bills and provide for the kids it really makes it difficult sometimes..The grocery prices now days are really high and the healthier you try to go the more expensive it gets..Thanks for the advice,I will try my best..

Spacecas, I don't cook different meals but my kids are older and can fend for themselves if they don't like what I prepare. I stay away from processed food as much as I can and use fresh or frozen whenever possible. Processed foods are full of sodium!

Hi every one..i am new to the group..I am 33 and if I don't wanna be on meds I gotta cut out the salt..I know some things which are no salt,no pork and stuff like that..any tips or ideas would be great..I did great to start with but have a family of five who don't wanna eat what I have to and it is hard to cook two different meals at the time..Any help would be great..Thanks every one..

Iced tea is great. No calories and if you drink green tea its also good for you...... Plus no carbonations.... I am recommitting to staying on track. One day at a time!! Have had threee good days. I have one diet Mt Dew a day in the morning. It's my coffee, I don't really like coffee unless its got all the high calorie sweet stuff in it. I drink water and decaf iced tea the rest of the day.....

We have been making Yoplait Smoothies, I could probably make them without buying a prepackaged product but I had coupons and they were on sale! They have about 110 calories per serving. I drink water mostly, I love to add a slice of lemon, it makes it taste better. Some people like crystal light or some of the other mixes you can add to water. You might try that. Also, there are some waters that are lightly flavored and have no calories. It takes some time to get used to water and no pop but you can. I now drink a diet drink about once a week or less. I drink water all day.

I am recommiting also, I have gained back 30 of the 64 lbs I lost. Don't want to go any higher, because I don't have any big clothes anymore. I just want to buy smaller clothes no more big sizes. The Wii fit sounds like lots of fun. Sounds like something I need to invest in.

My husband likes to play it, the golf of course. But Spark People has all of the sports programs in to track as cardio so even bowling and golf on wii count.

My daughter and I would both like to get one, we think it could be fun! So I guess I may break down and get it. I am always looking for a fun way to work out and am trying to get my husband to move more (or at least at all!) He claims he walks but it is only half a block down the street, he really needs more exercise.
