I did sleep better last night. But while I was getting dressed, I twisted a little bit the wrong way and my lower left back/hip muscle got pulled. It doesn't hurt a lot, but it's definitely noticeable. I took it easy today. Rested and then worked on my Bible study for Monday.

It was another nice day, but windy. And we're going to have pretty strong winds now for the next several days and it's going to get hot.

Leslie - Not sure if I was "bright-eyed and bushy tailed", but I was awake! LOL
There are certain times when you just can't use a self check-out. I don't mind if I only have a few items and I'm going to pay cash, but most of the time I have enough things that I'm writing a check. Interesting how you write cheque and we write check.
The movie we watched kind of stunk. It ended up being about this guy who was running from some people who were trying to kill him because he had been doing some illegal business for them and then took off with some papers that would implicate the really bad guy and in the process grabbed a young woman who was being kidnapped by the bad people. Then picked up her very young daughter from her step-dad (he had gotten her pregnant) and were basically just on the run - in Galveston. The guy eventually was caught and put in prison for 20 years, the gal was killed and then the young daughter came back after 20 years, found the guy and wanted to know what happened 20 years ago. After he told her, it looked like he was going out to the ocean during a hurricane and going to kill himself. I know he felt like it was his fault the little girl's mom was killed.
It was rather tragic, really. I felt sorry for all of them - he wasn't a bad guy really. Ben Foster played the part and all through the movie, he reminded me of my DS - just in looks, so maybe that's why I kind of felt badly for him.
I'm still watching Justified on Hulu. Since so many of my shows on TV are back, I don't get to watch it much. I think I will watch a few episodes tonight.
I don't like shows that leave you hanging! My DH will tell me about a show or series he's watched that he thinks I will like. I always ask him if it ends "good".
Hope you got some rest and reading done!

Kate - That song's lyrics are amazing. However, I tried to click on the link and it said that page wasn't available. Can you tell me the title of the song? Then I can just look it up on you tube. What a great song!
How was the bridal shower? What kind of food was there and did you play games? Did the "bride to be" get a lot of nice things?
Sorry you DD was not in the best mood. That's tough when you have a function to go to. Did your DH watch DGS while you both were at the shower?
The stocking looks great to me! But I know if I'm not completely satisfied with something I've made, I either want to do it over or fix it. I'm sure she loved it! And did she like the dog kennel/end table? That was really a clever idea and gift!

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

Kate - that song is amazing! How sweet of your DS to choose that for your dance. I hope it won't make you too weepy on the wedding day!
How lovely that you'll be hitting 60 degrees on Tuesday! I think we'll be in the 30s. We are supposed to get rain Monday, so I hope that will wash away some of the snow. There were some roads with 12-foot drifts yesterday, and 3 of the 4 main highways were closed - if we wanted to get out of town, east was the only way to go!
I detest the self checkouts! I feel as if the store should be paying me to do that work.
I'm so sorry about your DD's foul mood. I'm sorry that she and DGS have both been sick, and she is behind with her work. I hope her mood will be better today for the bridal shower. I hope you're both able to have a very good time!
I think you did a great job on the stocking! What is her name? I'm sure she'll be thrilled to be included in that way.

Mema - I'm sorry you were not feeling rested yesterday. I hope you slept well last night and woke up 'bright-eyed and bushy-tailed'!
I'm sorry you had a long wait at Walmart. I think they are really trying to make people use the self checkout lanes. When I was there with my friend recently, I know she would have been happy to do the self checkout for me, but I needed cash back after using my debit card. I hardly ever write cheques any more. I do my bill-paying online, or by withdrawals from my account. My housekeeper would prefer me to pay by cheque, but I'm not sure where the rest of my cheques are - I know I have more, and I'm hoping they're in the bottom of the basket on my desk. I'm afraid to look, in case they aren't there!
You had a good group at Zumba yesterday! I hope the new woman will come back.
How was the movie you watched? I finished with Designated Survivor - the third season only had about 10 episodes, and it ended very abruptly, with several story lines up in the air, so I wasn't happy about that. I'll be looking for a movie for tonight.
I don't think there is a dermatologist here in town, and I haven't heard of a podiatrist either. I am thinking it could be peripheral neuropathy and/or gout. For now, I'm happy my leg isn't leaking any more.
Yes, it's very bad here before things are cancelled due to snow! It was just snowing a bit again, but it looks like it's stopped now. I'm going to be reading on the couch soon again.

I hope your days are going very well! Enjoy the shower, Kate!

My DS chose a Mother/Groom dance song. It made me cry when I listened to it.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdTn
uc3ktzo

You taught me everything
Everything you've given me
I'll always keep it inside
You're the driving force in my life, yeah
There isn't anything
Or anyone that I could be
And it just wouldn't feel right
If I didn't have you by my side
You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were gray
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me
And no one else can be
What you have been to me you will always be
You will always be the girl
In my life for all times
Mama, Mama you know I love you
(You know I love you)
Mama, Mama you're the queen of my heart
Your love is like tears from the stars, yes it is
Mama I just want you to know lovin' you is like food to my soul
Yes it is, yes it is, oh, yes it is, yes it is, yes it is oh
You're always there for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong
Yes you did
And you took up for me
When everyone was downin' me
You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on
There were so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
And then you'd come to me and say to me
I can face anything
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
You'll always be, you will always be
The girl in my life, ooh oh
Mama, Mama you know I love you
(You know I love you, you know I love you)
Mama, Mama you're the queen of my heart, (You are)
Your love is like tears from the stars
(Your love is like tears from the stars)
Mama I just want you to know (Mama I just want you to know)
Lovin' you is like food to my soul
Never gonna go a day without you
Fills me up just thinkin' about you
I'll never go a day without my mama
Mama, Mama you know I love you
Mama, Mama you're the queen of my heart
Your love is like tears from the stars
(Your love is like tears from the stars)
Mama I just want you to know lovin' you is like food to my soul
Lovin' you is like food to my soul, oh yeah
You are the food to my soul, yes you are.

Mema – sorry you’re not sleeping well and feeling tired. Sounds like Zumba went well. I’m glad you’re getting a good number of women coming – and new ones, too.

We’re having more warmth on Tuesday, too, but for us that’s hitting 60. Which is really warm for this time of year. I wouldn’t want 90.

I like going through cashier lines, so I’ll do that if I have time and the line isn’t too, too, long. Otherwise, I’ll do the self-check.

Leslie – that must have been one big snow storm. Cuddling under a blanket w/ a good book sounds perfect for a snowy day.

Today is the bridal shower. My DD was over here yesterday for a while b/c her car was being serviced. She is still not feeling totally well and is behind at work b/c of her sick days and DGS’s sick days. She was in a foul mood and I’m not looking forward to having her come with me. Sigh. I have enough anxiety on my own w/o having hers, too.

Here’s a photo of the stocking. I’m not at all pleased w/ how the Santa face came out. I really should have un-raveled it and redone it but I was worried that I wouldn’t finish in time. Ah, well. Perhaps I’ll knit a second one when I have more time.

I did sleep better last night, but when I woke up this morning I still felt tired - so maybe I didn't sleep as well as I thought. I did lay down for a nap this afternoon but that was because I had a bit of a headache.

I got the things I needed at Walmart today, although with all the self-check out lanes, I had to wait in line because they only had 2 of the other lines open. We always write checks at Walmart, so I can't go to the self check out lane. Oh, well, I wasn't in a big hurry.

I was the only leader at Zumba today and I had 5 other women there!! Yay! That was nice and a new gal, too. She's originally from Thailand and a neighbor of one of the regular gals who comes. She said she's never done Zumba before. She says she'll be back. Hope so!

Tonight, DH and I are going to watch a Netflix DVD. It's called Galveston - I'll let you know if it was any good.

Leslie - I do hope your doctor can either figure out what is going on with your foot/leg or send you to someone who can. I wonder if a dermatologist could help or with your foot, a podiatrist maybe???
Wow, you must have had a lot of snow for everything to be cancelled. I imagine it takes a lot for things to be cancelled up where you are. That's how it was when I lived in MN during the winters. It had to be pretty bad!
We finished off the left overs for our supper tonight!

Kate - Thanks for the tip on Volumetrics. I did a quick Google search - sounds like something DS could use. I'm going to email him the information. When I spoke with him yesterday, I did tell him that eating protein helps because it digests slower and eating fiber fills you up. He's not a big veggie eater, but even if he just eats the veggies he likes will help.
I'm sure you're glad you didn't get that snow! That would have been a lot! We had another perfect day. Sunny, no wind, mid 70's. One more day of perfect weather and then it will get warmer. We're supposed to hit 90 by Tuesday, and it's going to be very windy! We really need rain down here, but nothing is in the forecast, unfortunately. Our reservoir's can really use it!
Thanks for posting that about Lent. I really liked, too. Really put it into perspective on what it's all about, ultimately!

Enjoy your Saturday!

Mema - I'm sorry you had another hard time sleeping. I hope last night was better.
It sounds like you're well prepared for Zumba today!
I'm glad you had a good chat with your DS. I'm glad he's found a place to work out before he goes to work.
Wow, congrats to your hockey playing cousin - he sounds very talented! I'm glad he already knows where he'll go to college.
The severe pain in my foot does go away after I'm up, but my leg still feels tender, as if I have a bad sunburn, and my foot is very red too. I guess I'll just see what my doctor has to say when I see her March 13th. I don't have a lot of faith in her, but if she doesn't know what it is, I hope she'll refer me to someone else.
We are getting a LOT of snow - it's been snowing since yesterday and isn't supposed to stop until around noon tomorrow. Everything was cancelled today, even the city buses. Your mid-70s sounds perfect!

Kate - that Volumetrics sounds interesting.
You're right - that meal was like beef Stroganoff without the beef! I could have had it on noodles, rather than toast. When I told my housekeeper about it, she said she would have it on rice.
I like what your friend wrote about Lent. Thanks for sharing it.

I think I'll get under a blanket on the couch to read this afternoon. I will probably have clam chowder and toast for dinner - that will be warming.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – sorry you’re not sleeping well.

Hope you have a good turnout for your Zumba today.

Congrats to your “cousin” on his hockey win.

I’ve read that the volume of food we eat is a trigger, too. Here’s something that your DS might find helpful. It’s a “diet” movement is called “Volumetrics”. It has a lot of tricks and techniques for getting more food in a meal w/ less calories. This is the newest of a series of book on it. I think there’s a cookbook, too.

“The Ultimate Volumetrics Diet: Smart, Simple, Science-Based Strategies for Losing Weight and Keeping It Off” by Barbara Rolls.

We got the rain and lots of wind but fortunately no snow. It would have been a foot deep if the temperature had been colder.

Leslie – so sorry that the pain in your feet is waking you up but it’s good that it goes away once you’re up. And it’s good that you can continue to have the oxygen paid for.

Beef Stroganoff w/o the beef! LOL. I do love sautéed mushrooms.

Here’s what a friend of mine wrote about Lent. I thought she was right on w/ her reflections
“Lent
I have been reflecting on what to do for Lent this year. I wanted something that in the end will bring me into a closer and more spiritual relationship. Giving up foods, sweets, alcohol will not do that for me. All that does is cause me stress since I only succeed a limited amount of time and does nothing for bringing me to a closer relationship. Adding exercise or saying I will walk does not work either, another failure and does not foster the relationship. So as I was reflecting these things and doing some readings it has come to me that the commitment to the Bible Study I am attending is what I need to focus on. After each study there is daily readings and study. There is also an online resource that has a lot more materials and daily devotions. The Bible study will end, but the thirst to continue on with other things will hopefully be the outcome. This will be my Lenten focus.”

I had a hard time sleeping again last night. I don't know what that was all about. I was tired, but just couldn't seem to get comfortable.

I did some cleaning today and worked up another quick Zumba routine - a cool down. The other lady I lead the class with may not be there tomorrow. She has a funeral to go to so I may have the whole class. She normally does the cool down song, so I worked up something simple. I was also trying to do another "regular' song, but it wasn't going as well as I thought it would. So I may try and work on it tomorrow before class or else I'll just forget it. I have enough for a good 35 minutes - that's pretty good.

My DS called me this afternoon. He was on his way home from work. He was getting done early today because he will be by himself on Saturday. We had a nice chat. I did ask how he was doing with the diabetes and eating and exercising. He said the hardest part is cutting back on his portions. He was used to eating a lot, I guess. He did find a work out place close to his work and joined for $25/month. He had been working out when he first got sober and always went in the morning. He said he can go in before work, shower there and still get to work on time. I told him if that's what works for him, then he should do that. I told him how I love my Zumba and so that exercise works for me. The key is finding something or a good time that you'll actually DO the exercise.

We also talked about a relative of mine - I guess he is my second cousin, once removed. He's my first cousin's grandson. Anyway, he plays hockey and was in the Youth Olympics this past January over in Switzerland! He played for the US Team and they took the Silver medal. He had 2 hat tricks (means he scored 3 goals in one game) and an assist! DH looked him up and said he's a VERY good player and at age 16, he's already been signed to play at the University of Minnesota, Duluth when he goes to college! And UMD won the NCAA Division 1 Championship the last 2 years. I just found all of this out when I went to visit my aunt last week. He's her great-grandson! So, kind of exciting! Will be keeping an eye on him!

Tomorrow I should go to Walmart in the morning to pick up a few things. And then I'll have my Zumba in the afternoon.

Leslie - I'm sorry the pain in your feet wakes you up, but I'm glad that once you are up, the pain goes away.
We're going to have one more cold night - supposed to get down to 37 tonight! But then be sunny and warm tomorrow - mid 70's.
I'm glad you'll get to keep your oxygen and have it paid for.
I heard it was snowing quite a bit in the NE part of New York, that's kind of up your way, isn't it?
The dinner at Burger King yesterday was good! We haven't had that in a long time.
Your "new" dinner of the mushrooms does sound like it would be good.

Kate - I also had a mom who helped me out quite a bit when I was divorced from my first husband. My DS was only 2 at the time. My parents lived in a duplex, so they were just upstairs from me which made it very convenient if I needed help. I was single for 10 years before I met my current DH. So, I can relate, too. It's nice to have parents who are able to help out when needed.
I've also stayed up way too late playing games on my phone! And then paid the price for that the next day. I hope you were able to get to sleep at your regular time tonight.
Will you be getting any of the snow that's heading out East? I know they said New York, but wondered if it was also going to be close to you.

Happy Friday!

Mema - I'm glad you were able to sleep in yesterday. I have such awful pain in my feet that wakes me up, I have to get up immediately. Once I'm up, the pain rapidly diminishes.
You are so dedicated to the Zumba - good for you!
I'm glad the other woman took care of setting up for the evening service yesterday.
It sounds like you had an unusually cold night!
The oxygen guy said he's sure I'll continue to get funding for the oxygen. Thank goodness. I have no idea what it would cost if I had to pay, but I'm glad I don't!
It's still snowing here - we are having a mini-blizzard. It's supposed to continue into tomorrow.
Good for you for cutting back on smoking. I have been so frustrated with all the health issues, that I had a brief craving to smoke the other day, but I have nothing here to smoke, so the urge passed, thank goodness!
I envy you, having Burger King. We used to have one here, but it's long gone.

Kate - Yes, I certainly do understand your DD, but at least she has you. I had 2 kids in several activities, with a full-time job and a part-time job, and no family to help at all. I was totally strung out. I still have a calendar from 1978, and can't imagine how I coped with everything.
I understand staying up too late playing computer solitaire. For me, it's one more episode of whatever show I'm watching on Netflix.
I'm glad you have a charity coming to take the clothes you are parting with. The Diabetes Society comes to our building every month or two to pick up bags of things we are giving away. I have a bag ready to give away next time they come.

I have discovered a quick and tasty dinner which I've had a couple of times now. I quarter the mushrooms in a package of whole mushrooms, saute them in butter, reduce heat and stir in sour cream; serve over buttered toast. It's quite filling.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie – nice that you were able to get to exercise class. How did things go w/ the oxygen guy? Can you keep the machine?

Wow! Snow! We just have a lot of rain coming through instead of snow.

And, yes, you understand exactly how my DD feels. Things lost when there is no money to replace them and not enough time to deal w/ work, home and kid in a calmer way.

Mema- nice to have another woman helping out w/ the communion set up and take down.

Sounds like you’re getting a nice number of people for your Zumba.

The restaurant does both stir fries and curries. You can chose. I particularly like beef and broccoli stir fry or chicken w/ cashew nuts. But if I’m in the mood for a bit more spice, I’ll get one of the curries.

I think churches like the Baptists were trying to get away from the “do this and you’ll be in God’s good graces” mentality when they broke away from the established churches. It’s from the early days when the denominations were formed as a way to get away from the more formulaic denominations and focus on just having a relationship w/ God. I think the whole mess w/ all the different denominations was mostly people reacting against things that were only partly true. I’m glad that we’re doing better at recognizing that all of us are worshiping God in our own ways and not persecuting each other like they did a few centuries ago.

I stayed up way too late last night playing computer solitaire. I just couldn’t seem to settled down into sleep. I’ll “pay” for that today. I have housecleaners coming this afternoon. I need to sort and trash some more of the stuff we pulled out of the closets in the rooms that are being redone. Lots of my DD’s stuff. She glanced at it and said to trash it all except for a few things. I’ve packed them up in a box. I have a charity coming on Monday to take 5 bags of donated clothes. One bag of DD’s and DS’s cast offs and four of baby and toddler clothes left over from DGS.

I slept great last night! And even slept in, too!

Most of the morning and early afternoon I was working on stuff on my computer. I had Zumba in the afternoon. There were 5 of us altogether. The other leader told me she may not be there on Friday, so I'm going to come up with a couple of new routine's for Friday to take up more time. I'll make them pretty easy so the gals can follow along even though it will be a new routine. I usually do 7 songs and it takes about 30 minutes, the the other woman does 3-4 songs. She says she doesn't mind that I have a longer time than her. We usually work out for 40-45 minutes.

I didn't have to go back over to church today to re-set communion. I got a call from the lady who counts money and she went to the early service and got everything set up for this evening's service. So that was nice. I took everything down then after tonight's service.

It's supposed to get down to about 39 degrees here tonight. It was cool and breezy today, but solid sun!

Leslie - Welcome back! Wow - you have had a lot to deal with! I bet you are tired of it all. I would be, too.
I'm glad you made it to exercise, though - that's good for you.
Did the oxygen guy come? What did he say?
How much snow did you end up with?
I'm going to try and give up chocolate for Lent - I hope I can do it.It's not something our church condones or advocates even. I just thought I might try it. I have also cut waaaay back on smoking! I might have 1 or 2 and not everyday. Today I didn't smoke at all!

Kate - I guess I've never thought of Lent as earning salvation through good works. I'm just curious, what kind of good works or what do they mean by that? We don't believe either that we can "earn" our salvation.
I don't normally order shoes online either, but I know what size I wear in Clarks and they offer free returns, so I took a chance. And the 2 pairs I ordered were sandals, so I think that's an easier fit than a closed shoe. Also, in order to get the free shipping on my order I had to order over $50. But with this pair, that strap is just too tight.
I love stir fries, too. Can you get them w/out curry? That would be my choice! LOL And that's a pretty reasonable price, too.

We had a coupon for Burger King and so we went there before the church service! That made it easy for me! emoticon And tomorrow night, DH wants chili, so I just have to take that out of the freezer! emoticon

Have a wonderful day!

Well, I'll try to catch up a bit today! I've had 4 trips to the ER and 2 emergency dental appointments within a month, and I'll be having the next dental appointment soon to get the latest crown glued back on. And now I think I may have an ingrown toenail, so that's bothering me. I am just tired of one thing after another!
Today I finally got back to the exercise class, and this afternoon the guy in charge of the oxygen is supposed to be here to determine if I still need the O2. I hope I'll be able to keep it!
We are getting a lot of snow now, after a few really nice days of sun and temps above freezing.

Mema - it sounded like you had a wonderful time with your aunt. The Market Days sounded great. The hat and earrings you got for Dakota sound perfect. And the things you got for yourself sound lovely. That restaurant with the fried shrimp sounded very good too.
Thank you for your prayers and your concern - I appreciate it.
Your church will be busy today with two services for Ash Wednesday. I used to give up candy for Lent.
Nice of your DH to make the lasagne. I'm glad you won't have to worry about the Lenten suppers this year.

Kate - that meat that you describe as Gyro is called Donair here, which is actually the Turkish name for it; apparently it's called Shawarma in Lebanon and Middle East.
I'm sorry your DGS was so stressed about the homework he hadn't done, but how great that your DH was able to help him out. I can understand your DD being stressed out too and getting impatient with him. I remember when I was a single mom and very stressed with life and finances, and my son would lose one shoe - when the shoes were brand new! I often felt at the end of my rope. Your DD and DGS are lucky to have you and your DH to help out.
Did you used to belong to another church with more of the traditions?
That Thai restaurant sounds heavenly, with all the stir fries and curries! I would love to find a restaurant like that.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie – hope you had a good day w/ your housekeeper and that you’re feeling better today.

Mema – “low” and “high” are just other words for liturgical or not. The Baptists don’t have a regular church cycle that they follow through the year. Although Easter and Christmas are celebrated, of course. In the church we attend here, they do set up an advent wreath but that’s mostly b/c we have a lot of Catholics in the congregation and it’s an easy tradition to follow. I guess they don’t pick up on Lent b/c it can feel like “earning” your salvation by good works. A lot of my Catholic friends do still give up things for Lent. Alcohol or sweets usually. IDK. I like the traditions and miss them. I’ll probably do something on my own.

My mom used to order shoes from Clarks. I have very sensitive feet so I won’t buy shoes w/o trying them on first. I’d be sending them back too often.

The food at the Thai restaurant is always good. They have 8-10 different stir fries and 5-6 different flavors of curry. You can get any of them w/ beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, scallops or duck. And they’re all around 7 -8 dollars so it’s inexpensive, too, for this area.

Another kind of busy day - Bible study this morning at church. Although, I spent half of it getting the communion set up and then working with another lady changing the alter colors (now we have purple) and hanging banners. Then we also set up the large wooden cross we use for Lent.

Afterwards, I stopped at Dollar Tree and then my meeting. Once I got home, I did my ironing and practiced my Zumba - more for exercise. Tomorrow I just have to go back to church in between services and make sure the communion is set up for the evening service. DH and I may go extra early, but if we don't, I'll go in the early afternoon. Before Zumba!

One good thing is that I spoke with another gal at church this morning and we are NOT going to be doing our Lenten suppers after the Wed. services! There were only going to be a few of us able to do it and we decided it was too much work for just a few workers. That was a good decision.

I ordered 2 pair of shoes from Clarks - they had a good sale plus free shipping. But one pair I need to return and they offer free returns, so that is nice. The pair I'm returning were sandals and they had an elastic strap across the top (actually 2 straps), but they were just too tight. But I like my other pair.

Leslie - Saying a prayer for you that you are feeling better and getting the rest and care you need.

Kate - I guess if nothing else, doing this Zumba has given me much more energy! Even though I had a terrible night's sleep last night, I managed to get a lot done today. I've been trying to lose a few pounds, but at night I just give in and snack too much!
I've never heard the term "low church" before. I guess I was under the assumption most every religion "celebrated" Lent - didn't realize that some don't - like Baptists. When I was growing up, my mom would "give up" something for Lent and tried to get my sister and I to also, but that is not even something I hear anyone talk much about anymore.
I hope you had a good Bible study and lunch with your friend. Was your food good?
I guess that's what grandparents can do sometimes - ease the tension from the parent and help the grand child! Nice that your DH was able to buy the Kindle book!

Have a great day!

Leslie – hope you were able to rest and get a good amount of sleep so you feel better today.

Mema – you always seem to get so much done in a day.

Since Baptists are a “low church", we don’t have any special emphasis on Ash Wednesday or Lent. I do miss that. I rather like having more emphasis on the liturgical calendar.

I have my Bible study w/ my friend today and we’ll go to the Thai place for lunch. Looking forward to that.

My DD is always so stressed that she doesn’t have any patience for DGS when he forgets or loses things. When they got to DD’s apartment, DGS couldn’t find the book he was supposed to use. I’m so glad my DH was able to get him to open up about what was bothering him. DH bought a Kindle copy so they could do the work. DD would just have told him it was his own fault for losing the book and forgetting to bring the assignment w/ him on vacation.

Whew! I had a busy, but very productive day! Went to Bible study this morning and even started a load of laundry before I left. Came home and worked on that. This afternoon I had Zumba, then once back home, I finished my laundry. Cleaned DH's bathroom and steamed the tile floors! Now I can relax for the rest of the evening - it's 8:30 pm here right now.

Tomorrow is Bible study at church. I will also set up for communion for Ash Wednesday. We have 2 services - morning and evening so I may have to go back in between services and re-set the communion. Unless the other lady volunteers again. She may be there counting money again. Then I will have my meeting and home.

DH made dinner tonight. Lasagna - 3 small pans of it - 8x8. We'll freeze 2 pans. It was very good, too! Sometimes he puts spinach in it and I'm not crazy about that, but this time he didn't.

Leslie - I can imagine you were exhausted! You have had a LOT going on. I hope you got the rest you needed.

Kate - It is worth the effort to save time down the road with the hymns.
Sorry to hear your DGS was all worked up about his homework. Very nice of your DH to help him out. Glad they got it finished for him. He probably won't forget something like that again - especially since it had a huge affect on him - worrying about it.

Have a fun Tuesday!

Mema – it’s worth the effort to set up a system that will save time in the future w/ the hymns. I like to do things like that when I have tasks that have to be done regularly – but not frequently enough for them to be rote.

Have fun at Bible Study and Zumba today.

Leslie – sorry you’re so down and defeated. I can fully understand why you feel that way w/ everything that seems to be going on w/ your body and mouth. It’s like you can’t catch a break. Hope the crown is an easy fix.

DGS was kind of melting down in church yesterday – sitting w/ his head in his hands. He said he was feeling sick so DH took him out in the middle of the service. Turns out, he had left his vacation homework at home even though his mom reminded him to pack it. So he was realizing that he was out of time and stressing out. DH drove him home after lunch and helped him do the project he was supposed to be working on all week long. He felt much better when he saw they could accomplish it in just one afternoon. Poor kiddo. I realized he was unhappy but thought it was just from being away from home for so long.

After church I worked on my new Bible study that we will start NEXT Monday - not tomorrow. Tomorrow we are finishing up the study of Women of the Bible.

Then I did some work on hymns - even though we are finished for the season, I just did some re-writing and made a master list of all the hymn #'s in our hymnal. Then I can just add the date to the hymn # and keep track so we don't duplicate too often. It's an easier way than what I was doing. It just took longer to put this together.

We then went to DH's cousins for dinner. She had lasagna, garlic toast and mini cheesecakes for dessert. I actually was able to put all of that into my nutrition tracker. The lasagna was from Costco (one of the warehouse club stores). But it was very good!

Tomorrow is Bible study and Zumba. Plus I will probably clean and steam the floors while DH is at his meeting.

Leslie - I don't blame you for feeling so defeated. You have been having a very tough time - I'm so sorry. I wish there was something I could do for you, I'd do it in a heartbeat! emoticon Hope things turn around for you soon!

Kate - I'm sure it was nice to be back in your own bed. There's nothing better! Even though I have a very comfortable bed at my aunt's, my own bed is just better!
I'm sorry your DD was sick, maybe she'll be able to take DGS to the Sonic movie next weekend. Did your DGS enjoy the time away and flying on the plane?
I'm glad the estate wasn't complicated. My DH hopefully will be finishing his dad's estate once we get back to WI. He has to file taxes for the months of Jan/Feb of 2019. Then everything should be done and his sister will be able to close out the last account by the end of the summer.
I always thought Gyro was a type of sandwich in pita bread, too! LOL Thanks for the explanation.

Have a good day!

I'm sorry I can't write much today. I'm having a time of feeling defeated, with all the health issues that just go on and on, and this morning another crown popped off another tooth, so I'll have to go back to the dentist, for my third emergency visit in a short time. Tomorrow I will make that appointment, and arrange for the bus, and I'm also going to cancel my routine cleaning which is coming up soon. I just can't afford all these dental appointments.

I hope you are both having good days.

It was nice to sleep in my own bed last night. We’ll be heading to church this morning and then take DGS home. I really need to get to the grocery store b/c the fridge is pretty empty. I made dinner from the freezer last night. Fortunately none of us were very hungry after the late lunch.

Mema – glad you had a nice visit w/ your aunt. The gifts for Dakota sound lovely and a bit different from the usual kind.

DD was planning to take DGS to see Sonic today but I think they’ll have to postpone it b/c she was sick on Friday and yesterday.

Leslie – sorry you’re still in pain from the leg.

I’m glad you like the Bengal Spice tea.

Gyro is that kind of Greek meatloaf – very finely ground meat and spices that is formed into a cylinder and cooked on a rotisserie. It’s usually served in a wrap or pita but I got strips of the meat on top of my salad.

My MIL’s estate was not complicated, it just took time to get all the pieces dealt with and closed out. The part that went to the grandkids was settled last summer.

Even though it was cool weather, I still had a great time with my aunt. On Thursday we went to the mall - neither one of us needed anything specific, but we just looked. I did find a new nightgown on a super sale and a new work out top (the kind that wicks away moisture) on sale, too. While I was waiting in line, I chatted a bit with the woman who was behind me. Just nice - she was another winter Texan. It was kind of misting out and icky, so my aunt and I ordered a pizza to be delivered for dinner that night.

Friday, I took her to her hair appointment in the morning and then we headed over to the Island for Market Days. It was cold and windy - about 48 degrees, but we were going to be inside anyway. We parked in the very last row next to the road because it was packed there! We had just walked inside and I saw the woman from the mall that I chatted with while in line! That was sure a coincidence! With all the people that were there and to see her again! She was on the phone, but I just waved and mouthed to her - I just saw you yesterday! She nodded. There were a lot booths with jewelry, clothing, those dry mixes you can buy and then stir in sour cream or mayo to make a dip or mixes for soups. And then other trinkets. I did find a girls baseball hat that says "Daddy's Fishing Girl" for Dakota for her birthday! It's so cute and she just loves to fish with her daddy. I also found a pair of earrings for her that are pink crystals in the shape of a Mickey Mouse head.

I also found another pair of pajama's - cheap. And I also purchased 2 Pashmina's (one pink and one a green turquoise). I have a couple of other one's at home here and I really do like them. Then we ate at Pelican Station in Port Isabel - that is just over the causeway from the Island. And the restaurant overlooks the Gulf and the causeway - nice view! We both had fried shrimp! Their shrimp are huge, so they actually split them so they don't overcook them. They were very good. It ended up being a late lunch, so we skipped dinner. We had an apple with a bit of caramel sauce drizzled on top in the evening.

Today was a bit nicer, close to 70 degrees. We hung around the house in the morning. Her cleaning gal came at 10:00 and then at Noon we all went for lunch and then I came home. So it was a very nice visit!

Tomorrow is church and I also have to work on my next lesson for Bible study. Then we are invited to DH's cousin for dinner tomorrow night!

Leslie - I'm glad your eye seems to be better, but I'm so sorry about your leg. Since you were a nurse, can you look online to see if you can figure out what might be the cause of the swelling and leaking?
I'm sorry you were disappointed in Popeye's again. That's a bummer when you're looking forward to it since you don't go there often.
I hope you were able to get all of your things put away and rest for the day.
Have you tried your other tea's that you bought? I've never heard of Bengal Spice or Red Dragon - interesting!

Kate - How WONDERFUL about your DD with her biopsy results!! I'm so happy for both of you!! What a blessing.
We will be able to sing some of the new hymns - we actually try to avoid new hymns during the summer because of the low attendance. It's hard enough to sing when you only have about 25 people there, so throwing in a new hymn makes it even harder.
It certainly does sound like your DGS is going thru a growth spurt! He did eat a lot.
My DS and DIL took the kids to see the Sonic movie! My DGS is crazy about Sonic! They also saw Frozen II and loved it!
Sounds like you got most everything wrapped up with regards to your MIL's house and estate. Nice that it seems to have gone smoothly.
Hope you had a good flight home!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Kate - I hope you have a smooth and safe journey home today!

It's another day of waking up to pain in my leg and foot, and my leg is still leaking too. I still have things to put away, from our shopping expedition on Wednesday, and the grocery and pharmacy orders from yesterday. I hurt too much to get it all done at once. I do hope I can finish it all today.

Not much else on my agenda, other than reading of course!

Mema - thinking of you too!

Kate - I like the Bengal Spice tea very much. It reminds me of the Chai tea I also have, but this is tastier! I also got a box of Spice Dragon Red Chai which contains rooibos tea - not sure if that's spelled correctly, but I've wanted to try that. And I got more of the Licorice Spice tea too - it's very good. Thanks for the tip about the Bengal Spice!

It sounds like everything went well at the lawyer's meeting, and everything will be wrapped up very soon. I'm glad there's no fighting going on among the siblings. I always cringe when I hear the horror stories that can go on in the wake of a death in the family.

Your lunch at the Greek restaurant sounded good. I love Greek salads! I thought a Gyro was a wrap, or pita, filled with meat and veggies, so I don't understand 'Gyro on a Greek salad'. There is a wonderful Greek restaurant here. I get souvlaki to eat there, and a salad to bring home. I hope my friend and I can go there again soon - I love the food, and it's reasonably priced.

I'm sorry about the bad weather when you left the theatre yesterday. I hope it's correct that all the snow will be melted later today, and you will have good weather for travelling tomorrow. I wish you a good flight.

Leslie – Nice to hear that your eye is feeling so much better. And the other pains as well.

It sounds like you had a good trip w/ your friend, even if your lunch was disappointing. Did you like the Bengal Spice tea?

Mema – hope the weather is dry for your trip to the Market Days. That’s quite a swing from 90 degrees to 50.

We had our lawyer meeting. We signed all the papers to sell DH’s third of the house to his sisters. My SIL also dispersed most of the funds from MIL’s estate so we each got a check for 1/3 of that. Once the two sisters deposit and clear their checks, they will send us payments for DH’s part of the house. Then, SIL will pay any taxes and other fees and divide up whatever is left of the money and the estate will be closed.

We all went out to lunch at a Greek place. DGS was able to get his veggie burger and I had Gyro on a Greek salad. Very nice.

In the afternoon we took DGS to see Frozen II. When we left the theater it was starting to sleet and soon after we got back to the house, it turned to snow. There is about an inch on the ground this morning. They say it should be all melted and gone by the end of the day so we should have good weather for our trip back on Saturday morning.

Kate - what wonderful news about your DD!! I am thrilled for you both!
Your DGS's appetite seems huge, but you're probably right about the growth spurt.
I'm sorry your flight was bumpy, but nice that you got there early. Too bad you had to wait so long for your suitcase! Are there clothes for all 3 of you in that case?
Great that your DH and DGS were able to enjoy a swim while you and your SIL went shopping.
Thank you - my eye is feeling a lot better! The other pains are not too bad today.
Your fried chicken with a very light coating sounded wonderful. I was out with my friend Diane yesterday. We went to Popeye's for lunch and once again I was disappointed. The coating on the chicken tenders I ordered was really too thick, but the chicken was nicely spicy. The fries didn't seem as good yesterday as they were the other time we went there. If we go again, I'll order the dark meat chicken that Diane has - it looks good.
I'm sorry your DGS had so few choices for his dinner! I thought everyone was more aware of vegetarians and vegans these days, but I guess not.
I hope the shoe shopping or movie goes well this afternoon!

Sorry for not posting yesterday. Diane picked me up at 10, and we went to the Bulk Barn for tea and nuts. I got the Bengal Spice so I'm looking forward to trying that this afternoon!
Then we went to Walmart, and I got the 10 things on my list, including a heating pad, which I will use to relieve the pain in my side as necessary. I stocked up on other things, especially coffee. I only have one cup a day usually, but I use a really heaping spoonful of instant coffee - I like it strong!

Mema - I'm glad your Bible study went well, and you had interesting discussions too!
You have really been having some dramatic temperature changes. I'm sorry you'll have such poor weather while you're with your aunt.
I can't take ibuprofen - it causes huge bruises, as aspirin does too. I do have the pain pills my doctor orders for me, Percocet. Once I've had a few of them in a day, they do help whatever pains I have.
I only know one person who is a Leap Year baby. I think it would be very hard to miss 3 out of 4 birthdays!
You and your group have certainly made great progress with the hymns!
I hope you have a wonderful time with your aunt.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie - hope you're starting to feel a bit better.

Mema – how nice that you’re trying out new hymns. Will you get to sing them before you head north? Or will they be used while you’re away?

Have a lovely time w/ your aunt.

We had dinner at my brother in law’s country club. It was a buffet. I had fried chicken w/ a very light coating. It was excellent. There was absolutely nothing for DGS to eat except salad and a grilled cheese from the children’s menu. So disappointing. I guess NC doesn’t have many vegetarians.

Yesterday, I packed my breakfast to eat on the plane b/c I wasn't sure I could get the food I needed at the airport. DGS had egg and cheese on a croissant, hash browns, a donut, some of my carrot and celery strips, 3/4 of a pear, two bags of snack crackers and a bag of fruit gummies. And then he was "starving" while we waited for our bags so we bought him a snack to hold him until lunch time. I think he's having another growth spurt.

Today we have a lawyer appointment in the late morning. We'll go out to lunch. We're planning to either go shoe shopping for DGS in the afternoon or we'll take him to a movie. We have to look up what's playing. He wants to see the new Sonic movie but DD want to take him to that on Sunday when we get back.

My hymn meeting took 3 1/2 hours today!! I'm not sure why it was so long, but I guess we were listening to a number of "new" hymns to see if they were going to be "singable". They were all in our hymnal so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I think that's what took up more time. We're done now thru the end of the church year which is November. We'll meet again probably in October when we're all back down here.

I ran to Walmart to pick up a few things so DH would be set for the days I'm gone. I got home about 1:30 and had an hour until Zumba. There were only 4 of us today, but we got a good workout anyway. I'm a little sad that I'll miss on Friday, but going to see my aunt will be worth it. We'll have a lot of fun even though it's going to be a bit on the chilly side.

I have to stop by the other Bible study leader's house before I head to my aunts in the morning. We're working on a 4 week study once we finish this book we're on. We're kind of making it up as we go. We have a Bible as such - it's called Serendipity New Testament for Groups. It's the NT, but offers small group studies verse by verse or whole passages. And it gives examples of questions to use. So I had come up with one, but needed some input from her. She also has a newer edition which has the entire Bible and there are some OT and Psalm references I need from her.

Kate - Sorry you had a bumpy flight, but nice that you got in a little early. That's too bad about your luggage and of course you knew it was going to be as far away as possible! LOL
I'm sure DGS loved the swimming and it kept him occupied while you shopped.
You'll have to let us know where you go for dinners - I'm always curious about other restaurants. Have fun and I hope you get a good night's sleep!

Leslie - I hope you are doing OK - with all of your ailments I'm sure you are wore out. I hope the antibiotic is working for your eye.

I won't be back now until Sat or Sun. Enjoy your mini vacation, Kate and take care, Leslie!

We arrived a bit early even though the flight was bumpy. The baggage handlers “forgot” to unload the last bin of the baggage train so there were 4-5 families waiting around for our luggage. The airline said it had been unloaded but it took a while for them to finally locate it. And then the train was on the other side of the airport so it took about an hour for us to finally get our one suitcase.

DH and DGS went swimming at the local aquatics center while my SIL and I went to the grocery store to stock up on foods for the few days we’ll be here. Enough for 3 breakfasts and a lunch. We’re going out to dinner w/ the other SIL and her DH tonight and perhaps another night, too. She does have food here for one dinner.

Bible study this morning went well and actually went longer than usual - almost 2 hours! We were talking about end of life issues with regard to Living Wills, Durable Power of Attorney, etc. It was good.

I didn't end up going home, went to the bank and then got to my meeting a little early, but there were people there already, so it worked out fine.

It was hot today, too! Close to 90 degrees! So DH and I had a large salad for dinner tonight. It was too windy to grill and too hot to cook! Tomorrow we're supposed to get some rain and it's only going to be in the 60's. And on Thursday when I go to my aunt's it's going to be raining and cold. Friday when we're supposed to go to the Island, it will be in the 50's! Thank goodness the Market Days is in the Convention Center on the Island, but what crummy weather for when I go to see her. Oh, well - not the end of the world!

Tomorrow I have my hymn meeting in the morning and then Zumba in the afternoon. I'll post tomorrow night, but then probably not again until Saturday or Sunday.

Leslie - I can imagine you are feeling overwhelmed! You have had a lot of medical things that need your concern. I do hope the antibiotics for your eye help. I'm sorry that you might have to live with that pain in your side. Can you take ibuprofen for it? My DH has joint pain every day and his stiffness is worse on some days, but he takes 800 mg ibuprofen just about every day for his pain and it helps. But maybe your pain pills are more effective - when you take them for your leg, does it help your side?
At Bible study today I was talking with a woman and we'll be doing Lenten suppers once again this year, but after Ash Wednesday and we both were thinking Ash Wed. is still a long way off, but it's next WEEK! Can't believe how fast this month has gone.
I have watched and liked a lot of Adam Sandler's movies, but I have never heard of Uncut Gems - sounds like something I wouldn't enjoy either.
A gal at my meeting is a Leap year baby - she said this year I get to have a "real" birthday since it is Leap year! She's the only person I know who was born on Leap year!

Kate - The time does seem to have gone by fast this winter down here, but we've been here 4 months now and I think with Easter being fairly early, that has a lot of affect on when people leave. So many of them want to be "home" for Easter.
That is cute about your DGS asking about other things he can bring for his trip! I'm sure he's excited!
Will your DD call or text you her results if she gets them while you are in NC?
It does sound like you really went to town in the bedroom. I did have a water bed when I was first married. I loved it! Especially in the winter - it was nice and warm to get into! I don't think I would want one now - too old! emoticon
I hope you have safe travels and all goes well! How long will the flight be? I imagine it wouldn't take long to get there.

Have a great day!

I have been feeling a little overwhelmed with all my ailments! I have no idea how I got the infection around my eyeball. I just hope the antibiotics will work. The doctor did a thorough eye exam. I was glad it wasn't a problem with pressure in the eye, which is what I had been scared of.
They did a chest X-ray and EKG but couldn't find anything causing the pain in my side other than that my torso is so twisted that my ribs are far from where they should be, and this disability continues to get worse as I age. So, I guess that is a pain I'll just have to learn to live with.
My leg continues to be very sore, and sometimes feels as if the whole leg has gone to sleep. It feels full of 'pins and needles' which is very unpleasant.
It took 3 pain pills this morning before I felt any lessening of all the pain. I hope that won't be an every day thing now.

Mema - that cabin in the country does sound very appealing as a getaway for your DS and DIL to celebrate their anniversary together!
I'm glad you were able to have a visit with your neighbour. She sounds very accepting of her situation, so that's good.
Amazing that March is coming up so soon, and people there are already making plans to return north in the spring. My DIL's birthday is on Easter this year!
That registration for your DH sounds all-encompassing! No wonder he was tired when he got done with that.
It sounds like you'll have a busy day today, with the Bible study and meeting.
I'm still watching Designated Survivor and enjoying it. I tried to watch the movie Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler, which I'd read good things about, but I found it just too loud and too frantic, so I gave up on that.

Kate - I'm glad you enjoy the online OA meeting. I'm sorry your other meetings are getting smaller.
I imagine your DGS will be excited about going to NC with you. Has he flown before? I'm glad he was being so grown-up about what he could bring with him.
I hope your DD won't have to wait too long for her biopsy results. Waiting is hard.
You got a lot done in DD's old room! Is the waterbed going back in, or are you getting another bed? I remember when waterbeds were all the rage. I only slept on one for one night at a friend's house, and really didn't like it. I was glad not to be a 'tossing and turning' sort of sleeper - I imagine I might have been seasick!
You really sorted out a lot of stuff, and I'm glad your DH went through his things and filled donation and trash bags! And, you have a lot of baby stuff to donate too!
I hope your travels all go well tomorrow.

I hope your days are going well today too!

Leslie – so sorry about yet another medical concern. We’re they able to check out your leg and side pain while they were looking at your eye?

Mema – It seems like you’ve just got settled in Texas and people are already planning to head back north. It’s a funny kind of nomadic life you lead.

Glad that your DH was able to get everything all settled w/ the registration. I can certainly understand all the doctors wanting to have access to the records and test results.

It’s good that you were able to visit w/ your neighbor and that she was in good spirits. I don’t think they ever really know how long someone w/ cancer can live. I know they told my mom she had 6 months but she didn’t make it to 6 weeks. She was also peaceful and ready to go.

I will probably post later in the day tomorrow b/c we need to get out of here early for our flight. Today DGS will be with us. DD will drop him off on her way to work. Since we’re leaving tomorrow morning for NC, he’ll spend the night. He was cute yesterday – he called me about the packing list I had given him to ask some questions about what extra things he could bring – being very grown up and responsible.

DD wasn’t sure exactly when she’d get results of the histology. That’s the problem getting a biopsy on Friday afternoon before a long weekend.

Yesterday we tackled DD’s old room. Drained the waterbed and moved all the furniture out. We emptied both closets and sorted out the stuff in them. DH had a lot of stuff in there that he went through and filled two large donate bags and two large trash bags. We made two piles for DD and DS to look through. DS took half the stuff and told us to donate the rest. DD will look at her piles today when she’s here w/ DGS. I went through the piles of baby clothes that she had been “saving” to give to someone. I trashed anything worn or stained and still have enough to fill at least three large bags with stuff to donate.

Had Bible study this morning - my turn to lead. It went good. We've decided to go thru to the 4th week of March. The other leader is planning on going back to Ohio (where they live in the summer) the beginning of April. We're thinking of leaving to go back to WI shortly after Easter. And the other gals - some are around the same time, others are later. So we thought that would be a good time to close the study.

I didn't have Zumba today, because of the other activity going on. DH went for his registration appointment. That went surprisingly well! Got all the paperwork filled out. They should be calling him back in the next 4-5 business days to set up his appointment. The reason it takes 4-5 days is because they (TX Oncology) has to set up "portals" with the dermatologist down here and the surgeon in San Antonio. It's more than just a "release form". The other doctors want to be able to have access to all the tests, scans, etc. that may be done by TX Oncology. But they also need all the records from the dermatologist and surgeon.

By the time DH did get home he was pretty tired out, so he skipped his meeting tonight. He ran a couple of errands before and after his appointment today, too.

Tomorrow I have Bible study at church, then my meeting. I don't think I really have to run anyplace before my meeting, so I may stop back at home before going. We'll see.

Leslie - So sorry about having an eye infection. Do you know what it is? Or how you got it? You certainly are having your share of concerns.
I did go over to see my neighbor today. She actually called me to let me know it would be OK. She's in her hospital bed which is in the middle of her living room. She used to be able to get around in her wheel chair - she wasn't totally disabled, but had had a stroke many years ago and one side was not good and she used to use a cane, but always had a lot of pain, so she started using the wheel chair instead and that really worked out well for her. But now she said after being in the hospital, her legs are so weak.

I don't really know how much time she has left and I didn't want to ask. Today, it almost sounded like it could be a lot less than the 2 months I originally heard. She was saying that when the tumor on her bowel grows enough that it closes completely that's it. Almost sounds like she'll have trouble eating or rather digesting food. But she was in pretty good spirits and we talked for about an hour. Then she was going to have lunch and probably take a nap. She told me to come over anytime, but I told her if I came at a bad time for her to promise to tell me and I would come back later. She said she would. She is ready to go, and that's good. She said she's had a good long life and has done pretty much all she wanted to do.

Kate - When my neighbor (Ethel) got home from the hospital last Thursday, she was put on Hospice care right away. So I'm sure it was arranged before she left the hospital. After the ambulance dropped her off, there were 2 nurses that came shortly after and had a bunch of stuff they were bringing in. That's the way it went for my mom, too. The hospice nurses met me over at John Knox once my mom got back there from the hospital. So Ethel has someone with her 24 hrs/day. She has 2 extra bedrooms in her home as well, but when the nurse comes for the overnight, they are supposed to stay awake!
No one from Zumba was going to be up at the Meet and Greet mainly because it's not like an official "club". That's mainly who is up there. We are going to have our class listed in the monthly newsletter where they list all the regular "daily" activities - like yoga, step fitness, etc. I think that should help get the word out, too. And who knows, maybe next year, we might decide to be up there.
My DIL must be OK with surprises. My DS had a surprise b-day party for her when she turned 30 five years ago. It was just at their house, but she didn't know anything about it and seemed fine with it.
I think he's going to go with the cabin in the country. He really liked that.

I don't know if you can click on this link, but otherwise maybe copy and paste it into a new tab. That's the place I found for him.
Hope you had a good meeting. All of the meetings I've ever been to have all been just 1 hour. We've never had any meetings longer than that. Interesting.

Have a wonderful day!

Sorry, I'll be brief. I did spend the morning waiting for cabs, in the ER, waiting for the pharmacy to open. I have more antibiotics for an infection around my eye, which is quite uncomfortable.
I'll write more tomorrow.

I hope you both have good days!

I have an on line OA meeting today. It's a Big Book study and it's really good. I've been doing that since my Monday face to face meeting closed. Both my Wednesday meeting and my Saturday meetings have just switched from 90 minutes to one hour and they're getting smaller. I do like face to face meetings so the trend is troubling.

Mema – sounds like your neighbor is getting a lot of support from other people. Will she have a hospice nurse caring for her? Or is it too soon for that? Hope you get to go see her today.

You’re doing some good research for your DS finding interesting places to spend their anniversary. Is she the type of woman that likes surprises? My DH usually likes to include me in the planning – although he has surprised me a few times.

Will there be some information about the Zumba classes at the newcomers Meet and Greet?

Little boys do seem to love words that mean ‘rear end’. He was using it all morning yesterday. I’m glad he’s not in school this week or he’d be teaching it to all the other little boys.

Leslie – I didn’t pick up on the ironing/pressing either. LOL

Sorry the pain and swelling don’t seem to be resolving in your leg. I can understand why you will wait until tomorrow for a return visit to the ER if you can’t get a ride today.

When I was little we used to do long drives w/ my parents and I remember how hard it was to be stuck in a car for that long. When I have long drives now, I plan to never go more than 8 - 10 hours and have lots of breaks.

I spent most of the day researching out places for my DS to take his DW for their anniversary. I sent him some info on a couple of places I found to get him started to see what he thinks. I found a log cabin that they could rent for $145/night! It's a 2 story with a loft for the 2nd story. And it's out in the country and looks cozy!

The 2nd place I found is in the old jailhouse of one of the small towns. My DIL works for The Department of Corrections! They have a room there that has actual jail cell bars in the room! It's all fancy now! That room was $198 for 2 nights or the Bridal Suite for $360 for 2 nights. I'll see what he thinks.

We took a short golf cart ride and on our way home, we stopped at our neighbors house across the street and visited with them for a couple of hours. We hadn't really visited much this year, so it was nice to catch up.

Tomorrow I have Bible study in the morning. This is my week to lead, so I've got to go over my lesson once more before going to bed. DH has his "registration" appointment tomorrow. I don't have to go with him for that. There is no Zumba tomorrow because the Activities Committee is hosting a Meet and Greet up at the clubhouse at that time. It's mainly for all the new people who have moved in this winter season to see all the clubs and activities that are here. Usually someone from a club - like the Drama Club, Dance Club, Computer Club, RV Club, etc. has a small table set up with information and then available for any questions.

Leslie - I was going to go over and see my neighbor today, but there were 3 different cars parked in front of her house, so I didn't want to interrupt if there was something going on. Her daughter's car was there, too. I'll see maybe tomorrow.
I didn't even realize the unintended "pun" - ironing, pressing! Funny!
The season 3 premiere of Good Girls was tonight. I didn't watch it tonight, but will be able to tomorrow on Hulu. I did watch American Idol tonight. That started back up now for the season. I've watched that show since the beginning of it.
I hope your leg/ankle don't wake you up tomorrow.

Kate - That would be a long drive for a short visit! I didn't realize it was that far away.
How nice that your DD could sleep in and have a nice rest after having the biopsy, then going to a big social function - a lot of emotional stress for her.
Wow, your DGS does get up early! Nice that he was quiet for you. Cute about the word bohonkus! I've never heard that word myself.
Could you post a picture of your finished stocking? I would love to see how it turned out!

Have a wonderful day!

Mema - Keep us posted about your neighbour - do you know when you'll see her?
I'm glad you and the other woman were sharing duties at church!
How great that your DH made chili!
I got a kick out of you saying 'bit of ironing to do, but otherwise nothing pressing', emoticon
I hope you and he and his DW will come up with a good place for them to celebrate their anniversary.
The pains in my legs and waist seem to come and go, but it's hard to get comfortable when I sit on this chair. My lower leg is still quite red, and the pain in my ankle woke me up today.

Kate - That would be a long drive for a short visit! It's about what I used to do, driving to and from Vermont.
I don't know if the ER will be busier tomorrow, but I wouldn't be able to get the bus on a holiday, and after having one day of taking cabs around, I don't want to do that again if it can be avoided.
I'm glad your DD had the chance to sleep in today, but you didn't! In a few years, no doubt he will be sleeping in too!
It sounds like you've done a great job on the stocking. Good for you. I'm sure DF will be thrilled with it.

I need to get back to the couch with the pillow behind my back.
I hope your days are going well.

Mema – Nice to have someone help w/ setting up communion. Glad you have an easy day today.

We’ll be flying down. The drive would be 13 hours each way and that’s just too much for a 2 day visit. We’ll fly down on Wednesday morning and back on Saturday morning. DH had something he didn’t want to miss on Tuesday and we both wanted to be back before Sunday.

Leslie – I didn’t know you had a holiday, too. Does the ER get more busy on holidays or less?

DH’s youngest sister and her DH own a house on the other side of the town. They moved down there about 40 years ago. DH’s parents bought a house in the same town when his dad retired around 1990. So for now, my SILs will be living across town from each other. They’re talking about eventually selling MIL’s house and sharing a house but not now.

Thanks for the prayers. DD probably won’t hear any results until sometime next week while we’re away. She went out to a fancy black tie event last night. She said she was feeling sore and a bit tired but she wanted to go and I said I thought it would be OK if she took it easy. DGS was here overnight so she’ll be able to sleep in this morning.

We went to bed early last night b/c DGS was here. Unfortunately that means we were up early, too. He was awake at 4:30. Although he stayed quiet, I couldn’t get back to sleep after he woke me.

Last night, he and DH were reading a new book that he got. It used the word bohonkus and he had to look it up. He was whispering it beside me just now. He really likes it.

I’ve almost finished the stocking. The knitting is done and I’m sewing up the seam that runs up the back. I need to block the heel and toe sections. I blocked the top part that has the pattern earlier when I could lay it flat before I started the heel. The foot and toe are knitted ‘in the round’. Turns out my knitting on the foot is a bit tighter than the top section that was in stockinette – knit the front then purl the back. I need to stretch it out a bit before I block it.

Thank you both for your sympathy about my neighbor. How they found out about the cancer is her daughter brought her in because she said she wasn't feeling good. They thought she might have a blood clot in her leg (I don't know what those symptoms would be, if any). They kept her overnight and she was due for her colonoscopy so they went ahead and did that. She said that was fine. They must have done some sort of imaging test and found a spot on the outside of her bowel. They biopsied that and found that it was cancer. My other neighbor said that since the cancer was on the outside, that meant it had already spread to other parts of the body. If it had been found inside, they could have possible removed it surgically. That's as much as I know right now and not even sure how accurate all of that is.
I'm sure I'll get a better understanding when I go and see her.

I got the communion set up for Sat. service and then the woman who counts the money on Sat. said she would set it up for Sun. Awfully nice of her to offer to do that. I told her I would have the extra trays of wine filled.

And I did my laundry. DH made chili in the crock pot for supper! That was nice. And then we went to the concert. It was very good. The bass singer had a bad cold and DH said he sounded a bit flat, but I couldn't tell. They harmonize beautifully together.

Tomorrow is church and I may have a little bit of ironing to do, but otherwise nothing pressing. My DS called me this afternoon and wanted to know if I had any ideas about where he could take his bride for their 10 yr. wedding anniversary, which is in Oct. I told him I would look up some places and email them to him. He doesn't want to spend a fortune, but have a couple of nights in a B&B or cabin or something like that. Years ago, my mom and I went to Lanesboro, MN - it's an Amish community in Southern MN. We stayed at a lovely B&B and shopped in the little town. It was a fun trip. We visited an Amish community and my mom bought my DH a wooden coat hangar that had horse shoes nailed to it as the coat hangars for Christmas that year. It was very nice! So I'm going to research that. He suggested the North Shore (Duluth area) which is nice, also, but may be peaked out as far as fall colors and the Southern area won't be.

Leslie - I hope your weather warms up for you.
Waiting until Tuesday for the hospital might be a better time since people will be back at work. Is your pain in your ribs/waist any better?

Kate - I will certainly keep your DD in my prayers, as well. That is scary. I hope she gets the results back quickly - waiting on something like that is awful.
You will have a busy week next week with your DGS and then going to NC to get things settled there. It will be nice to have that all taken care of, I suppose. Do you fly down or drive? I can't remember what you did when you had to go the last time.

Blessings on your day!

Mema - I'm very sorry to hear that news about your neighbour. I'm sorry the diagnosis was so sudden and so devastating. I'm glad she and your mom were close. I'm sure it's all very emotional for you. It's nice that she will be cared for at home, and you will see her soon. I hope she isn't suffering too badly physically. I'm sure it's all very difficult emotionally for everyone. How did she find out about the cancer? Was she having symptoms of some kind?
I'm surprised you were able to make it to Zumba. I'm sorry the women from Canada weren't there.
We have some sun today, but it's still cold - in the teens Fahrenheit. It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow.

Kate - Of course I am praying for your DD! That does sound like a big worry. I pray the tumour that was biopsied is not cancerous, and the other tumours will not be either! When do you and your DD expect to get the result? I hope you won't have to wait very long! Will you be with her when she hears the result?
Monday actually is a holiday here too. It's called different things in different provinces - in Ontario it's called Family Day. It seems to me that it is just a provincial holiday rather than federal, so I think we'll get mail that day. I may wait and go to the hospital on Tuesday.
You will be busy with your DGS today and next week. Nice that he'll be able to go with you to NC to see more family. Are the two sisters going to be sharing the house now?

I hope today is a better day for you Mema, and I hope your DGS will help to distract you from worrying about your DD, Kate.

Leslie – sorry you’re having so much pain in your leg and your side. I hope you get some answers at the ER on Monday. That’s a holiday for us in the states but not for you.

Mema – so sad about your neighbor. I can see why the diagnosis stirred up your grief over losing your mom.

It sounds like your DH is on top of his medical care. And that’s so necessary these days.

I’m gearing up for grandson mode. He’ll be with us today and overnight. Then he’ll be with us all of next week b/c it’s school vacation. We’ll take him with us to NC for our short trip – Wed thru Sat. DH has to do some business things to finish out his mom’s estate. She left her house to all 3 kids. His sister has been living there since she moved in a few years ago to help her mom. The two sisters have decided it’s easiest for them to just buy out DH’s share of the house. So we’ll be doing a ‘closing’ while we’re there.

I appreciate some prayers for my DD. She had a breast biopsy yesterday and the doctor said it’s definitely some kind of tumor. They did a more extensive ultra sound and found 3 more tumors that will have to be biopsied about a week and a half from now. I know that only about 20% of breast tumors are cancerous but still. It’s worrisome.

I got some very sad news today. My neighbor who has been here as long as we have (16 years) was just diagnosed with cancer throughout her body. It's looking like she has about 2 months left. She and my mom got to be pretty good friends even though they hadn't seen each other in several years. They were 1 year apart in age. My neighbor will be 89 in October. One Thanksgiving, I picked up my mom from Brownsville and she spent the night over at my neighbor's house. They had a ball talking and laughing together! It's almost like going thru my mom's passing again. It's been a very hard day for me. She's only going to get palliative care at home. She has her 1 daughter down here (she owns a house in our club). Then she has another daughter and son up in the Illinois area. Those 2 were just down here for a visit about a month ago. I told my neighbor I would come over and see her in a few days. She's getting everything set up with hospice care. They brought in a different bed for her yesterday. So, I'm kind of wiped out from that. An emotional day.

I did go up for Zumba today, but about 20 minutes before that I couldn't stop crying and thought I might have to call the other leader. There were 4 of us today. The 2 gals from Canada were not there.

I did get my groceries at Walmart this morning.

Leslie - Glad to hear you are arranging your ride to the ER for Monday. That pain in your ribs moving down sounds strange - I hope they have an answer for that, too.
You did get a blast of cold air, but it is going to get warmer over the weekend. We will have nice weather, too. Then it's going to get cold again just in time for my visit down to see my aunt! Sigh!

Kate - What a nice evening out for you and DH! And having it paid for, too!
Yes, DH does look at the reviews of the doctor to see why the patients are unhappy - it's a mixture of treatments and talking with patients. The "bed side" manner, I think he could overlook, but doesn't want to make a "boat payment" for the doctor with unnecessary tests - as my DH would say! LOL
I love the wallpaper choices! I think that will look very nice together! They complement each other well.

Have a good day!

Mema - I'm so sorry you lost your post! I type in Notepad, then copy and paste it into the reply box here. It's very frustrating to lose everything you've typed!
I'm glad you had the chance to get that cleaning done while your DH was out. You sound really dedicated to the Zumba!
I'm sorry your DH isn't thrilled with the doctor who was recommended by the dermatologist. Maybe he'll be pleasantly surprised when he meets him. I'm glad he's good at asking questions, so will only have the necessary tests.
How interesting that your reading yesterday came from Guelph!
I am very sorry I missed the day out with my friend! I had been so looking forward to it. I'm hoping she'll be able to do it on another day. I'm pretty free this month. I'm just waiting to hear from her.
I will be at the ER on Monday again. I need to arrange for the bus to take me. The pain in my foot/ankle woke me up again today, and the pain in my ribs has moved lower, down to about waist level. I don't know what's going on there either.

Kate - How nice that you went out last night to celebrate! The food sounded wonderful, and I'm glad you had some left for lunch today! emoticon
We're also getting cold air today. It was -25 C earlier, which I looked up - it's -13 F. It should warm up over the weekend.
Thanks for the photos of the papers. I can see why that paper might have been just too much to have on all the walls.
I hope I'll get some answers at the ER on Monday. I am just feeling very tired today.

I wish you both Happy Valentine's Days!

We went out last night for an early Valentine's day celebration. I ordered a bigger steak and brought half of it home for lunch today. I had grilled asparagus and broccoli as my sides. A really lovely dinner. And I paid for it w/ the gift cards we got for Christmas from the kids.

Happy Valentine's Day

Mema – sorry about the lost post. I hate it when that happens. I now write my posts in a word document and copy and paste it into the reply box.

Sorry the doctor your DH is seeing isn’t highly rated. Can you see why the rating is low? Is it his medical treatment results or simply his ‘bed side manner’?

Sounds like you had a busy and productive day w/ the cleaning and Zumba routine.

Yes we’re getting a blast of cold air today – high in the 20’s but it will be back in the 40’s by Monday. We’re headed to NC the middle of next week and the high temp is forecast for mid 40’s there. Not much different than we’re having here.

Leslie – sorry you’re having such frustration about getting medical care for your leg. And I’m sorry you had to cancel your trip out w/ your friend. I hope you can reschedule it next week.

Here’s the photo of the paper from the wall paper book. And the other is a closeup of the companion paper. In real life, the colors are a match although it doesn't look like it from the photos.

I just lost my post!! I was almost finished, too. I closed out all my tabs on my computer by mistake! Grrrrrrr.....now I have to start all over.

DH didn't go to Bible study this morning. I guess he was feeling tired. He had another meeting this afternoon that he had to go to - his Investment Club meeting. So when he was at that meeting, I cleaned his bathroom and ceiling fan. I also cleaned my bathroom. I practiced my Zumba and am thinking about figuring out a new routine for a new song. I just have to decide what song I would like. I have several on my player that I use, so I'll pick one of those. And I probably wouldn't introduce it to the group just yet. They are still learning the new songs I started with. And then I did some strength training.

DH looked up the doctor that the dermatologist recommended and he's not too thrilled with him. He's got a 1.5 star rating out of 5 stars (best). But I told him since the appointment for registration is Monday, go ahead and get the appointment with the doctor and see how he is. DH is pretty good about asking questions if it seems like this doctor is testing way more than necessary. He's always been concerned about tests, procedures, etc. that costs either Medicare or our private insurance money. He will get what he needs, just doesn't like to waste money.

Tomorrow I have to go to Walmart to pick up some groceries before the weekend. I've got Zumba in the afternoon. And I have to set up for communion at church. But the communion set up, I will probably do on Saturday. The woman who counts the money from Saturday's service told me that she would set up the communion for the Sunday service so I wouldn't have to come back a 2nd time! I told her I would have the extra trays ready for her. How nice of her to offer that. She lives just a few blocks away.

Leslie - I get a daily reading from Grapevine every morning. This one was interesting because of where it was coming from!

"February 13, 2020

“I am easier led by example than ordered to obey. I am grateful to those who have shown me how [Tradition Two] works. Being a trusted servant is humbling. Being an equal part of a spiritual whole is enriching.”

Guelph, Ontario, October 1999, “Easier Led By Example…”, AA Grapevine "

It made me think of you when I read it, since that is where you are going in April to see your DS!
I'm glad you are going to the ER again, also. I would keep going until they figure out something to be done for you. With the antibiotics not working, something's wrong.
If the 2 gals from Canada are at Zumba tomorrow I will certainly tell them Hello from my friend in Owen Sound!
I'm sorry you were unable to go out with your friend. It sounded like it was going to be a fun day, with lunch and all! Hopefully, you'll be able to next week.

Kate - You really did have a productive day!
Sounds like getting a subtle difference in wallpaper for your DD's bedroom will look nice. Offset the busyness from the one wall.
Will you get any of the brutal cold they are getting up in the Midwest? I know they had a lot of school closings in MN today. Wind chills in the minus 20's and 30's! Brrrrrrrr
I'm glad your heel came out correctly on your stocking!

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm glad your DH's appointment with the dermatologist went well. That Texas Oncology sounds like a very good idea, for keeping ahead of any future instances of the cancer!
The clothes you got were certainly a very good price! I'm glad you got the pants.
That was a big group at Zumba! How great that one of the women is from Ottawa - please tell her and her friend, if the friend comes again, hello from Owen Sound, Ontario!
I'm sorry about your DH's ceiling fan getting so dusty - that is quite a mystery.
There's no point in contacting my doctor - she doesn't talk on the phone, and I wouldn't be able to see her for weeks. I have an appointment with her on March 13th. Up until then, the ER is really my only option. I expect to be there again on Monday after the antibiotics are done. They have not been doing any good so far, and my ribs still hurt a lot too.
I was so looking forward to going out with my friend today, but felt feverish yesterday afternoon, so called her to cancel. We talked quite a while, and hope to go out one day next week instead. I wanted to go to the Bulk Barn especially for nuts and tea, and then to Walmart for several things. And we were going to go to Popeyes for lunch. I hope we can do all of this next week instead!

Kate - I'm glad you have someone to hang the wallpaper this time. Why is the one you chose for DD old room too 'busy' - is it little flowers? It sounds good to just do one wall with that paper.
Congratulations on doing the heel on that stocking! I don't think I'd have had the patience for that.
I am keeping my leg elevated as much as possible. I had a nap this morning so it was up then, and soon I'll be going to read so it will be up again.

I hope you're having good days!

Mema – sounds like a good idea for your DH to get into the Texas Oncology registry. I hadn’t heard of that kind of thing before but it makes sense.

How nice that you got so many people at Zumba. And you got a great bargain on new exercise clothes, too.

Leslie – I actually like hanging wallpaper but all the prep and woodwork painting is just too much for me. When we did the living room and kitchen ourselves, we did the prep together then my DH did all the trim painting and I just hung the paper.

So sorry about the loss of your charm bracelet. Those kind of things can’t be replaced.

I hope you’re able to get out today with your friend and do your errands. Does getting up and walking around help or hurt the swollen leg? Are you still keeping it elevated most of the time?

We’ve got some snow over night but it’s supposed to switch to rain during the day.

I had a productive day yesterday. Walked to a morning meeting and then came back to meet w/ my wallpaper hanger. She looked at the rooms and gave me an estimate on the cost for the renovations and the measurements for how much paper I need to buy. I did have one paper that caught my eye for my DD old room but I was thinking it might be too busy for all the walls. She agreed w/ me and we decided to do just one wall in the pattern and the other walls in a matching paper that has very subtle vertical lines.

Then I worked the heel on the Christmas stocking. It’s a strange set of instructions and I had to follow them line by line but it came out looking like the other stockings we have so I did it right.

DH and I went to his dermatology appointment. She did a total body skin check and then said they would set up a registration appointment for him with Texas Oncology. She said she refers patients there to let the oncologist determine what type of scans and blood work should be done. So, the registration appointment is for Monday, the 17th. DH can go to that appointment by himself. Not sure why they do it that way, but that's OK. Otherwise she thought his incision was looking very good! She does want him to be seen by her or a dermatologist up North every 3 months for right now. If he gets so many clean checks, then he'll go to 6 months and same thing, clean checks, 9 months and eventually yearly again.

We got home in plenty of time for me to go to Zumba, as a matter of fact, we stopped at a store down here that sells new clothes but deeply discounted. I'm not sure how they get them, but there are brands from Penney's, Sear's, Macy's and then brands I'm not familiar with. Anyway, I found 2 pair of yoga or Zumba pants. Actually capri's. I pair was $5.99, the other $8.99. Walmart had some for $12.96 - that was their cheapest. So I was pleased with that.

We had 8 at Zumba today!!! emoticon Two new gals - one is renting a home down here - she's from Ottawa, Canada and then she had a friend visiting, also from Ottawa.

Tomorrow DH has Bible study in the morning. I need to clean his ceiling fan - I just did all the fans a couple of months ago, but for some reason, his fan and his room in general has a lot of dust in it. And we use very good filters, he can't figure out why either. And I probably use my ceiling fan more than he does, but mine is still clean.

Leslie - I'm sorry the ER doc didn't seem interested - that's too bad. I do hope the antibiotics kick in, otherwise I think I would go back to the ER or call your doctor. That just doesn't seem right.
Sorry you pulled a muscle. I hope it feels better soon. I've done something similar, but it's in my back shoulder muscle. All I have to do is turn wrong or reach wrong and I pull it. I take ibuprofen right away and mine is usually gone in a day. I hope yours is, too.
Big difference in the dates of your yogurt! I would have exchanged, as well.
Do you have a lot of errands to run tomorrow? Hope you have fun! Will you go out for lunch? If so, where?

Kate - What a great keepsake - the gold coin made into a pin. What a unique gift.
That makes sense about putting the wallpaper in your home, since it is an old home. Like you said, it's in keeping with the style. I hope you find something you like for your DD's bedroom from your sample books.
Isn't You Tube wonderful? DH and I use it a lot for things. He really uses it because he's always fixing things. And he's had some hard diagnostics to figure out on his old Lincoln before he sold it. He absolutely loves the internet. When he was younger, he had library cards to 5 different libraries. He's always been curious about a lot of things! I hope the videos of the heel help you out!

Have a great day!

I've spent part of this morning at the ER again. My leg seems to be worse today - more swollen, brighter red, and more painful; in fact, it was the pain that woke me up today. The doctor at the ER was not impressed. He appeared to be bored out of his mind. Sent me once again to rule out a clot, and then just sent me home. I do have more antibiotics to take, but I had hoped for some improvement by now, certainly not a worsening of symptoms.
I've also pulled a muscle or something in my left rib cage. It hurts to take a deep breath, cough, or sneeze, and certain movements set it off too. I hope that will heal itself soon. I'm sure I should have mentioned it at the hospital but didn't.

Mema - I'm very sorry to hear the news about your uncle. I have nobody left from the previous generation. The only person older than I am is one cousin who is two years older.
I'm sure you'll enjoy the visit with your aunt next week. The Market Days sound like fun! I hope you'll have good weather this time.
The problem with the yogurt was the expiry date of February 11th! The ones I got as replacements are good until March 25th - quite a difference. And my library volunteer did come - she was only able to find one of the six books I had requested. The others will either be held for me when they're returned, or will come through the inter library loan system.
I had a good time with my housekeeper yesterday but was exhausted when she left.
I may not be able to post tomorrow. I'll be out with my friend Diane, and we'll be out from about 10 - 2, so I'm sure I'll be too tired when I get home.
I hope you get all the hymns sorted out!
I hope your DH will get through his appointments today in time for you to be back for Zumba.

Kate - I'm sorry you have to wait until March to see your doctor about the dizziness, but I'm glad you'll see her.
We are also having a couple of warm days, but tomorrow and Friday will be much colder, with blowing snow tomorrow. I hope my friend and I will still be able to go out to do the errands.
How nice that your godmother brought the 100 year old gold coin made into a pin. My grandmother gave me a lovely charm bracelet when I graduated from nursing school and one of the charms was an 1895 five dollar gold piece! Unfortunately, my abusive partner ended up stealing that bracelet, and a couple of other special pieces, so he could pawn it for drinking money. It broke my heart.
I love wallpaper, but would never have had the patience to hang it! I'm glad you've found paper you like for the small guest room, and I'm sure you'll find something good for your DD's old room too.
It sounds like the stocking is coming along well! I'm sure you'll have it done in time.

I hope your days are going well!

Leslie - Hi. Hope you had a good day w/ your housecleaner and had a chance to read the new books from you library volunteer.

Mema – we’re having that kind of unsettled weather, too. Warmer and wet followed by a sharp drop in temperature.

Nice that the other hymn committee member was checking and noticed some things that needed to be adjusted.

Hope your DH’s appointments go quickly so you can get to Zumba. I’m assuming the other woman is leading it today.

Your comment on Godparents brought up another sweet memory. My mom had a BFF when she was a young working woman. They were maids of honor for each other when they got married and they were Godmothers to each other’s first daughters. Even though they both grew up in Edmonton Alberta, her family had originally come from Boston. When she came to my wedding in Boston, she brought a 100 year old US gold coin that had been made into a keepsake pin by some ancestor of hers. She gave it to me to wear on my wedding as my ‘something old’.

Wallpaper is not that common anymore although I do occasionally see articles saying it’s making a comeback. There are only about 1/3 to ½ the number of sample books there used to be. But my house was built around 1910 and was wallpapered from the very start. It just looks right for the style. I found one paper I loved for the small guest room. I’m still not sure what to pick for my DD’s old room. I did bring home several sample books that looked promising.

I’ve finished the pattern part pf the Christmas stocking for DF and blocked it. Today I start on doing the heel. I’ve never ‘turned’ a heel before so I hope I’m able to follow the directions well enough. I did look up a You Tube videos that demonstrated how to do it. The shower is the 29th so I should have plenty of time to finish it.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

I did run a couple of errands before my meeting. It was real humid this morning, but by the time I got to my meeting, a cold front was coming in. We started out in the 70's, but when I left my meeting it was 62 and now it's down to 52.

I practiced my Zumba this afternoon and then had to make some corrections on my hymns. I got an email from one of the other members and she noticed some duplications too close together. We meet next week, but I found some other hymns to substitute that I will run by the rest of the group next week.

Tomorrow, DH has an appointment with the dermatologist here in the valley. She's going to give him the orders for blood work and chest x-ray. Plus she will look at the scar and see how it's healing. It's actually looking good, I think.

Hopefully, we'll be back in time so I can go up for Zumba. Our appointment is at 10:30, but if he wants to go and get the blood work and x-ray afterwards, it could be close. We will have a wait at the doctor's office and then maybe another one for the other things. She may be able to take the blood, but I doubt she would do the x-ray there.

Leslie - I hope your leg is doing better. I believe your housekeeper was there today, so I'm sure you were tired out from that.

Kate - When you mentioned childhood memories, this uncle who passed was my Godfather. It had been so long since I had seen him, it slipped my mind. My aunt who is in Brownsville that I'm going to see is my Godmother (or sponsors). I grew up with the Godfather and mother names, but I think people now say sponsors.
I love to look at fairs, too. Usually if I buy something, it's a gift for someone. I've done that a lot for my sister when I've been at the MN State Fair. It is fun to wander around.
Glad you have an appointment with your doctor about your vertigo. It's good that she wants to see you before doing anything.
I don't see wallpaper much down here anymore. My in-laws had it in their kitchen and baths when they first built their home here, but that was kind of a long time ago. Did you find anything you liked? Or did you get any samples?
Hope you had a nice lunch with your friend and Bible study.

Have a great day!

Mema – Sorry about your loss. It’s hard to see the older generation passing. I only have one uncle living. Although I haven’t seen him in a long time, I still have lots of memories from my childhood.

Hope your DH feels better soon. Sounds like it was a long meeting so it’s probably best that he stayed home.

Nice that you had at least one person come to the Zumba class. I’m sure there will be fluctuations in attendance.

The Market Days sounds like a fun trip. I like to wander around and look at things at fairs like that. Although I don’t usually buy much of anything.

Leslie – hope the antibiotics start working quickly and your leg feels better.

Too bad that you missed your class although I can see why you were exhausted. Did your doctor say anything about exercising while your leg is swollen?

Nice that you were there to get your drain all cleared. Sounds like you had a busy day w/ all the different people coming.

I’m almost back to normal again w/ my dizzy head. I did contact my doctor and she want to see me – although the first available appointment is in March. She wants to evaluate what’s going on before she decides which specialist I should see.

I am heading out today to stop at the wall paper store and look for paper for the two rooms we’re having redone before the wedding. And then I’ll have lunch w/ my friend and we’ll do some Bible Study. We’re working our way through the books of 1st and 2nd Samuel which are mostly stories so it’s fun.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

Well, DH did stay home from the meeting today, but went to his Al-anon meeting tonight. So I steamed my floors tonight. I finished up my hymns for our next meeting - next week. We only had one gal for Zumba today. I guess the annual meeting went pretty long for some reason, so we figured the other gals were probably tired of being up at the clubhouse all morning and into the early afternoon. But that was fine, we still had fun! And the gal that was there, was very excited to be there!

Tomorrow there is no Bible study at church, so I don't have to do that. I'll have to check my lists and see if there are any places I need to go to tomorrow before my meeting.

I also found out this morning that one of my uncles passed away last night. I hadn't seen him in a very long time, but there are only 3 left of 9 siblings now. I guess there is not going to be any formal church service, but they are up in the Twin Cities anyway, so I wouldn't be going.

I am going to go to Brownsville next Thursday to see my aunt. I'll stay with her until Saturday. On Friday, we're planning on going to South Padre Island. The convention center out there on the island has Market Days. It's like a large expo of people selling all sorts of things. From jewelry to pots and pans to trips, clothing and food! I used to go with my mom and my aunt years ago, but haven't been now in a long time. So that will be fun. I'm sure we'll have lunch out there, too. I just hope the weather is nicer than the last time I was down there - it was very chilly that time.

Leslie - Because of our annual meeting today, there was no Bible study - but otherwise yes, I usually do have it on Monday mornings.
I hope your antibiotics kick in soon. For something like you have, it might take a day or two before noticeable results are seen.
So glad your sink got fixed today!
What was the mix up on your yogurt? Nice that you are able to exchange it.
Did your library volunteer finally come, too?

Kate - I loved the shade of pink in the flowers, too. I thought they were (are) just lovely!
I do think that the reason we have so many of the stand alone ER's is for convenience. We also have a co-pay for the ER, but I think ours is $50 and if we are admitted to the hospital, that charge is waived. That's too bad that your DD gets caught up in that dilemma, too of choosing the ER or doctor's office.
I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. And how nice that you had several people helping you out at church.
I had no idea that antihistamines worked on dizziness either. Good to know. Although I don't have that happen to me, but will keep it in mind.

Time to relax and watch a show. I'm watching Justified on Hulu. I had seen 3 seasons of it, then it was moved to a station we couldn't get, so I had to stop watching it. Since it was so long ago, I'm starting from the beginning. I just started season 2 - there are 6 seasons, I think.

Have a great day!

Mema - That's really too bad about the confusion at church re: the donations! How frustrating for the guy wanting to do the presentation for the Gideons.
I love the photos. You look wonderful, and the flowers are really lovely! I like all those earrings you've made too.
I'm very sorry your DH feels as if he's getting the cold again. I hope he's not! I think you did a great job on the selfies - I have tried to take one, and couldn't seem to aim the phone and press the button at the same time. I'm not a very coordinated person!
I hope the Zumba goes well today, and you had the Bible study this morning too, didn't you?
I'm glad your reading at church went well yesterday.

Kate - The best person to ask about meds to take for your vertigo would be your pharmacist. They are the most knowledgeable about medications.
I looked up Uber and Lyft, and one place said there aren't any here, and another said Uber is here! I've never heard of anyone calling them here. There are a few taxi companies, and people all seem to have their favourite. I did have to wait a long time on Saturday, but yesterday when I needed to call for 3 rides, I hardly waited at all. I don't use cabs very often because I can arrange for the bus for anything I know about ahead of time.
I'm very sorry your DD also gets caught in the doctor/ER dilemma. It's really too bad she has to pay at the ER. At least I am not paying anything here. I really didn't have to wait long at all at the ER yesterday.
I'm glad you're almost back to normal now, but be careful on those changes of position. How nice that people were so good at helping you out at church yesterday.

I haven't noticed any difference yet in my leg/foot, but I hope the antibiotics will start helping soon. I didn't make it to the class this morning because I was just feeling exhausted from the weekend. And, I kind of wanted to be here in case the guy came to clear my kitchen drain - he did, and it's fine now. Now I'm waiting for the guy from the grocery store to exchange the yogurt I got Friday, and my library volunteer also said she'd be here today, but I don't know when. She has busy days!

I hope you're having good days.

Mema – lovely flowers. What a great shade of pink in the roses.

I think selfies are very hard to do. At least I very rarely like how mine come out.

Hope your DH feels better soon and doesn’t have a relapse from his cold.

The earrings are quite nice. I do like dangles like that rather than hoops.

Too bad about the mix up w/ the extra requests for donations. We had that happen one time, too, when our missions team leader asked for special donations w/o checking it out w/ the other leaders or w/ the collectors. Too many people involved.

Leslie – I’m glad you got to the ER and got your antibiotic. Do you have LYFT or UBER there. That usually is faster than a cab.

My DD is always getting stuck in that doctor/ER dilemma. It costs her $100 to go to the ER but sometimes she just can’t wait for an appointment. My doctor’s office has an urgent care at another site so I can go there although it’s not very conveniently located, it’s better than waiting in an ER.

I didn’t know that antihistamines help w/ dizziness and nausea. I usually do have something like that on hand. I’ll try it next time.

I'm almost back to normal now. Still just a bit wobbly if I try to turn too fast. Laying down and sitting up are the worst offenders. Yesterday at church, a number of people noticed how unsteady I was and helped out by doing most of the stuff I needed to do. We had Scouting Sunday so the boy scouts were involved in greeting people and taking the offering. Those are the two things I'm in charge of organizing. I was glad to have other people take over those two chores.

We had a guest preacher at church today - he was with an organization that feeds the very poor in the Caribbean and Latin American countries and in his sermon he also asked for donations. Usually that's fine. Unfortunately, this was also our scheduled Gideon Sunday. One of our members is a Gideon and he gives a short presentation every year and also asks for donations. In case you're not familiar, all those Bibles you see in hotels - those are put there by the Gideon's. They also give out Bibles to schools, hospitals, police stations, fire stations, where ever they can. He was supposed to speak at the end of the service and he got up and told the congregation that because there was already a donation being asked of the congregation, he would re-schedule his presentation. This was really our pastor's mistake! Our member who is the Gideon had NO idea that this guest preacher was asking for money or he would have cancelled his presentation ahead of time. But, he was never told - so it was a bit embarrassing for him. His wife is the one with whom I am switching leading Bible study this year. Our Pastor seems to be very forgetful.

Anyway, I came home and worked on my hymns. I did get picture's of my flowers, and took a "selfie" (which is not the best! LOL). My DH was busy today and he wasn't feeling all that good. He said he felt like his cold was making a return visit! So I took the pictures myself.

And then I grabbed a few of the earrings that I make, just to show you. I made almost all of these a long time ago, but this is basically the type I did.

DH also said he may not go to the HOA meeting tomorrow depending on how he feels. He said there wasn't any major issues this year, so he wasn't too concerned with how the votes went. So, not sure how much cleaning I'll get done tomorrow if he's around. But he has a meeting at church on Tuesday, so I can always do it then. It's just so much easier to do a big cleaning when he's not home! But I will have Zumba tomorrow.

Leslie - I hope the antibiotics work for you. And glad you went early in the morning and things went smoothly for you. And glad you did go to the ER instead of waiting until the end of the month for your doctor appointment.
DH did tell me I did good on my reading today, too.
The one thing about that annual meeting is the votes are tallied right after they are taken, so there's some "down" time and we can visit with those we are sitting by and get up and stretch our legs if we want.

Kate - I love the Christmas ornaments made out of beads! Very neat!
Our hospitals down here usually have pharmacy's, but we have stand alone ER facilities and they don't have pharmacy's at all. We don't have stand alone ER places up North. This is the only place I've seen that. And if you go there and then need to be admitted to a hospital, they have to transport you by ambulance to a hospital. You can't stay overnight at these ER facilities. But our hospitals also have ER's, so I'm not quite sure what the purpose is to having all these separate facilities - other than it's probably a lot more convenient for people.
I hope you DGS enjoys the group swim. That's too bad there's not private lessons for him.
I'm glad you are starting to feel better, too. I hope you can get something to keep on hand for when this happens. Leslie mentioned OTC medicines for motion sickness, would something like that work for you?

Happy Monday!

I had decided I would go to the ER yesterday afternoon which prompted a flurry of activity - arranging with a neighbour to take the delivery, but when I called the store to give them her info, they said they could make the exchange on Monday instead! I had to check my bank balance to make sure I had enough to use my debit card in the cabs. I called the cab, and they said it would be 40 minutes. By the time it got to be more than that, I was having a big anxiety attack and cancelled the cab. I decided to go this morning.
I went early, and didn't have to wait for hours - early morning is definitely the time to go! Anyway, they sent me for another ultrasound to rule out a clot again. The doctor didn't call it cellulitis but said I may have an infection, and she ordered antibiotics for a week. When I left the ER, I got the cab to take me to the pharmacy, and I was there a little before it opened. Fortunately, it's part of a large supermarket, so I was able to be inside and sitting in a chair. When I finally got the meds, I came home. I hope they will do the trick!
I wish we had an Urgent Care option, but we don't. It's either our doctor or the ER. Each of them tries to send me to the other. I am caught in the middle. I wouldn't have been able to see my doctor until at least February 25th.

Mema - I bet all your beads are beautiful. We used to have a store here which had a lot of them and other things too, but it isn't here any more. How great to be able to make yourself earrings, or any jewelry, to match an outfit!
I hope the reading went well at church today. I hope you have the flowers at home and got DH to take a picture of you with them.
I like Al Pacino, but it didn't sound as if you enjoyed the movie. I watched Hampstead with Diane Keating, and really enjoyed it. She befriends a sort of squatter who has put together a cabin for himself. People are trying to have him removed, etc. etc. It was mostly a pretty happy sort of movie which is what I was in the mood for since I'm still watching Designated Survivor.
I'm very glad you won't need to go to that meeting on Monday! 3 hours sounds much too long for a meeting. I would never have the patience for it. I'm glad your DH is willing to go and then tell you about it!

Kate - You are also lucky that your DH attends the long church meetings once a month!
When you asked about an anti-vertigo med, Antivert came to mind, but it is also an anti-nausea medication. Most of the meds people take for motion sickness would also work. Apparently any anti-histamine could work, but I think it would be a very good idea to see what your doctor recommends.
There is a hospital pharmacy but I don't think it's open to members of the public. My pharmacy is only open from 9-5 on Sunday, so I'm glad I was there while they were opening.
I'm sorry you weren't able to get a private swim instructor for your DGS. I hope he'll like the one he has now! I'm glad he's been feeling better.
And, I'm very glad you are also better! I hope that will continue throughout the day today, and keep on going.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – jewelry making sounds like a lot of fun. I remember getting a kit for my DD when she was an early teen and we made some nice things but never went into it any further. I sometimes look at all the jewelry supplies in the craft shops and think how interesting they are.

I had a lot of beads for making Christmas ornaments but I gave a lot of them to my DD when she was doing a craft project for the kids in her program.

My DH is on the leadership team at our church and has those long meetings once a month. He tells me all about what’s going on and saves me having to sit through them. LOL. Nice that your DH keeps you up to date on the HOA.

I’ll talk to my doctor when I see her next and see if she can prescribe some anti-nausea meds for me to have on hand. I’m not sure if there is an anti-vertigo medicine.

Leslie – hope you get your leg looked at quickly. Does your ER have a pharmacy attached? We can usually buy any needed prescriptions right in the same building as the treatments.

After 6 weeks of waiting and not getting any response from the Y, they said they didn’t have any instructors for private swim lessons on Saturdays. So we enrolled him in the last 3 weeks of this group session w/ a different instructor. I told him we would see how he felt about them at the end of the month. I don’t know if he will change his mind about group lessons.

He seemed to be feeling much better yesterday after swim class although still coughing a bit.

I’m starting to feel a bit better and was able to get up and make dinner last night. Hope the improvement continues. At least I’m not nauseous this morning which it great. I haven’t even been able to even think about food until noon the last two mornings. The nausea is more disabling than the dizziness b/c I hate the idea of vomiting. If it’s just dizziness, I can walk close to walls and sit or kneel down on the floor to do things like loading the dishwasher or washing machine. (front loader)

Went to Walmart this morning to pick up a few things and then I did my ironing. This afternoon I went through a whole bunch of beads that I have. I used to make jewelry (I still will make myself earrings if I need something specific) and so I had a bunch of beads that my mom had (she and my aunt were the one's who got me started on it years ago). Sorted out the colors and also put into containers earring pieces that I need to take back to WI with me. I have every color under the sun in beads! I used to make necklaces and bracelets and for awhile made watch bands that clipped onto watch heads that we could buy separately. It's quite easy to do and fun. I liked being able to match any outfit that I needed to.

Tomorrow I read at church. I bought flowers at Walmart, too for the altar at church. I had to bring those up to church this afternoon for the Saturday service. I do this every year in memory of my parents. It used to be just for my dad (he passed on Feb 6, 2005), but now it's for both of them. I will bring them home with me tomorrow. If I remember I'll have DH take a picture of me with them and post it.

The movie we watched last night was OK. It was called Hangman and kind of a serial killer cop movie. Al Pacino was in it! It was made in 2017. I wouldn't recommend it, but it was OK.

Monday is our annual Homeowners Association Meeting. I won't go, but DH goes. There are several items that are being voted on and we're voting in 3 new members to the BOD. I will clean the house while he's up there. It will be about 3 hours long! Used to be 4-5 hours! But they have managed to shorten it up by having some "Town Hall-type Meetings" before hand for the people running for the Board and other issues that we're voting on. I used to go with DH, but he does a very good job of telling me all about it afterwards, so I don't need to.

Leslie - I'm sure you're right about DS finding out soon enough about his tux. I think he's just used to being informed way ahead of time.
Sorry your maintenance man didn't show up for you. That's frustrating to have a slow sink.
Do you have like an Urgent Care place in Canada? We have those as well as ER's, but Urgent Care places are open longer hours than doctor's offices and it's for things that need to be seen but aren't a real emergency. For us down here in the states (and for DH and myself specifically) the co-pays are much higher at the ER than an Urgent Care. Anyway, I hope you can find out if it is cellulitis.
What movie did you end up watching?

Kate - Yes, DS is in the wedding, so I'm sure that is why he was getting a little anxious. He can always call the brother-in-law, too! LOL
I, too am sorry to hear your vertigo was back again. Is there any kind of medication that you can take for something like that?
How was DGS after his swim lessons? Did he seem better?
Very nice of your DH to do your errands and make lunch and dinner - even if it was just heating them up. The salad sounds good!

Have a great day!

Mema - Wow, wanting 150 people for a bridal shower!! That really is incredible. I'm glad her aunt told her that was too many. I'm sure your DS will be able to find out what he'll need to wear for the wedding. There's still a good amount of time to make the arrangement if he needs to rent something.
I hope you enjoyed the movie you watched. I'll be looking for one for tonight.
No, nobody's been here about the sink yet. I'll put another message in the box for the maintenance guy on Monday, stressing that it needs to be done that day, because my housekeeper will be here Tuesday and needs to be able to do her work.
My doctor didn't mention cellulitis and I didn't either, but now that I have the redness, I think you're right. I can't get an appointment with my doctor before the 25th of the month, so they told me to go to the ER. If it is cellulitis, I'll just need antibiotics, I hope. The swelling isn't bad now. I can't go to the ER today (I'm waiting for a delivery), but will go either tomorrow or Monday. Even if I got the Rx tomorrow, it wouldn't be delivered until Monday.
I'm glad your DH is feeling better.

Kate - I'm really sorry that vertigo is so disabling! It's great that your DH was able to do the errands yesterday, and it's great that he's been taking care of the meal prep, including making the salad.
Is your DGS in the private swim lessons now? I'm glad you'll see him today, but I hope you're up to that. I'm glad he's been OK.

I'm not doing much today. I need another day to recover. I hope my delivery will be here soon so I can relax more. I'm still feeling tired.

I hope you both have good days, and I hope that vertigo gets much better, quickly!

Mema – glad your DH seems to be feeling better. Must be a load off his mind w/ the good result from the surgery.

Is your DS going to be in the wedding? If so, they’ll probably tell him what he needs.
Wow – that’s a big bridal shower. That’s more than most weddings.

Leslie – DGS has been back in school all week so I guess he’s OK. He’ll be here today after swim lessons so I’ll see for myself.

Glad you had a day to be home and rest. That leg does sound very uncomfortable.

Did your sink get fixed? Hope so.

I’m still grounded by that bout of vertigo. I’ve never had two bouts so close together. I should probably talk w/ my doctor when I see her this spring. Anyway, I didn’t get much done yesterday and I’m not planning much for today that involves moving around.

DH took some time off work yesterday afternoon to do all my errands for me. And he made lunch and dinner, too. I had taken left over main dishes out of the freezer in the morning so he just had to heat them up. But he did make a nice big salad to go w/ the dinner casserole.

I did laundry today and had Zumba. There were 6 of us for Zumba. That was good. I also talked with my DS tonight. Just a brief conversation. He wanted to tell me something. My DIL's brother is getting married in April. DS said he has no idea of what kind of tux he's got to get or where to get it. I think he's getting nervous about it. Then this gal (the one getting married) is going to have a bridal shower and wanted to invite 150 people to it!!! Even my DS (who's no expert at wedding etiquette) said that was way too many people! She actually gave a list (of 150 names) to her aunt who was supposed to give the shower. The aunt said that was too many! I had never heard that one before! LOL

DH and I are going to watch a DVD movie tonight. I can't remember what it is - I'll let you know how it was tomorrow.

Leslie - Did you maintenance man come about your sink? I hope so.
I'm wondering if the loss of muscle isn't just because of age - we all tend to lose muscle when we get older. Especially if you're not doing any kind of strength exercises. Sure seems like you are getting enough protein. What do you do at your exercise class when you go? I started doing some arm exercises with weights while I'm watching TV.
Did you say your doctor ruled out cellulitis regarding your leg? It does seem strange that they can't find out what is causing the swelling and the pain.
My DH does seem to feel better. He was outside trimming branches off our bougainvillea bush. That thing grows like crazy and sends out branches in every direction. But it also has some very sharp thorns on the branches. One of them even ripped my DH's glove!

Kate - Oh, so sorry to hear you have vertigo. That is one feeling I have a very hard time dealing with. I hope it got better for you. It does seem like that has happened more often - at least you have mentioned it more.
I hope you get finished with the stocking. Like Leslie said, I'm sure you will. It is hard when there are a lot of things that need your attention.

Have a wonderful day!

My apologies for not posting yesterday; I was out for quite a long time, getting my pedicure. I really needed to get my toenails clipped! Today I finally have a day at home, but I needed to order groceries, so they'll be here this afternoon. I also have a maintenance request to fix the drain in my kitchen sink. It's very slow! I don't know when someone will be here for that. I am hoping it will be done before the weekend.

Mema - I have also had posts go poof! and disappear. It's very irritating.
7 was a very good group for you at Zumba on Wednesday! I hope today will be as good. I'm glad it's helping you to feel more energetic. I would love that!
I'm glad you had a good dinner at Golden Corral. I sometimes get very tired too early also.
Is your DH feeling better?

My lab results weren't too bad, except for one value which was low, indicating a loss of muscle mass and/or a need for more protein in my diet. I think I do have sufficient protein. I eat yogurt and cheese pretty much every day, and eggs very often, and at dinner I always have protein - either meat, or fish, or eggs, or cheese, or legumes. I also eat nuts quite often. I need to see when I can get in to see my doctor again.

Kate - How is your DGS now? I hope he's had better nights of sleep this week.
'Yesterday' sounds like a good movie. I like the Beatles too.
My leg is less swollen, although there's still a puffy band around the calf. From just above my ankle and down my foot, it's very red, and feels like it's on fire, especially early in the morning. The skin feels like it's pulling.
I'm sorry you're feeling pressured about the stocking, when you have other things going on! I know the feeling. I'm sure you'll get it done in time.
I'm very sorry about the vertigo too. I hope it won't be bothering you all day!

I hope you're both able to have good days.

Leslie – hope your leg is feeling less pain. It must be hard having to be up and around for appointments w/ all the swelling and pain. Glad you can have a day to rest.

Mema – I’ve had posts disappear into the ether. It’s frustrating. Glad you had a good turn out for Zumba.

I’m feeling a bit pressured about getting the stocking done by the time of the bridal shower. I’m only halfway done. I need to just focus and get it finished. Too much other stuff coming up and distracting me.

I woke up w/ vertigo again today. I’ve never had it so frequently. I have places I need to be today so I’m going to have to be really careful moving around. Sigh!

Wow! I posted yesterday, but don't know what happened to it! I remember telling you that there were 7 of us at Zumba and a new gal who seemed to love it. She actually came up to me afterwards and thanked me specifically!

That is really strange. So, sorry it looks like I didn't post, but I know I did. I remember typing it! How weird.

Well, today I did have a pretty good day today. While DH was at Bible study, I cleaned his bathroom, vacuumed my bedroom and vacuumed the tile floor. I didn't get that steamed, but that's ok. In the afternoon I worked on my hymns, which I also did on Wednesday because DH was taking a nap and I didn't want to make any noise for him (I remember typing that, too yesterday) Then we went for an early dinner today. It was good, but then I got super tired right after. We went to Golden Corral - we both like that. It was kind of an early Valentine's dinner! I came home and laid down for a bit. I didn't fall asleep, but I felt like I could have gone right to bed for the night and it was only 5:30 pm! So, not sure what that was all about. I do feel a little better. I didn't stuff myself at the restaurant.

Tomorrow I have Zumba and maybe I'll do some laundry??? We'll see how I feel.

Leslie - Hope everything went well for you at the lab.

Kate - DH and I saw the movie Yesterday! I thought it was great! I like the Beatles music, too. I'm glad you enjoyed it. How far are you on DF's stocking?
Nice to have a quiet afternoon.

Have a good day!

Leslie - hope being up and around for the bus trip to the lab didn't make your legs worse. It does sound awful.

I had a meeting yesterday and then a quiet afternoon. I watched a movie while knitting on the stocking. "Yesterday" It was cute and easy to watch w/o having to pay a lot of attention. And I do love all the bits of Beatle's music.

Mema - hope you had a good day.

Sorry, I need to be brief today - I'm just back from the exercise class, and the bus will be here in about half an hour to take me to the lab. I have no idea how long I'll be there, but when I get back I'll need to get my feet up.
When my leg is leaking, it's when it's full of fluid, and it just starts trickling out from one spot and runs down my leg. I soaked 2 tissues, a paper towel, a sock, and my slipper. It's not leaking today, yet. The swelling is also down except for one band about 4 inches wide in my lower calf. I still have the 'pitting edema' in it - if I poke a finger into it, the indentation remains after I remove my finger.
I had hoped that with less swelling I would have less pain but that isn't the case. It feels like it's burning. Sorry to be so full of complaints.

I hope you're both having good days, and I hope Mema's DH and Kate's DGS are feeling better!

Mema – nice when everything works out well on a busy day. Hope you get a nice crowd for your new Zumba routine today.

Glad it wasn’t as hot and humid as they predicted. Those up and down swings can be hard to bear.

Leslie – we had a bit of blue sky yesterday late in the afternoon. It was nice to see when only grey had been predicted for 3 days.

Do stay propped up today w/ your leg elevated except for your lab trip. Too bad you can’t have your computer where you can see it from the couch and keep your feet up.

Poor dear DGS didn’t get much sleep. He didn’t nap on Monday when he was here all day although I did make him lie down for an hour after lunch. Last night DD didn’t get here to pick him up until after 9PM. Her co-worker’s car wouldn’t start so she waited w/ her until they knew help was on the way. She did call earlier in the evening and ask me to have him bathed and teeth brushed. When I saw how late it was getting I had him get into PJ’s, too, so all he had to do last night was fall into bed when they got home.

It was a busy day today, but everything went well. Bible study, errands, meeting and hair cut. I'm pleased with that! And last night I finished my new routine for Zumba so I can show the women tomorrow. And I practiced the entire routine tonight! I may not be losing pounds, but it seems like I do feel much more energetic.

So tomorrow I just have Zumba. I didn't get my floors steamed or bathrooms cleaned since DH was home last night. I may do it tomorrow, if I feel in the mood! LOL

Leslie - Actually it wasn't quite as warm as they were predicting - it was in the 80's, but it was forecasted to be humid and it wasn't at all. Tomorrow we'll be more seasonal temps - 70's.
Did elevating your leg today help with the "leaking"? Exactly what do you mean by that? I hope you'll be able to get to the lab tomorrow and get your pedicure.
On the news up in MN they were all joking about seeing this "yellow ball" in the sky and not knowing what it was! They hadn't had sunshine in quite awhile, I guess.

Kate - I don't think my DH got his cold from me. My "cold" had been long gone and we were really being careful not to even kiss one another (we were "fist bumping" emoticon ) because of his upcoming surgery, so he may have picked it up at church from someone.
That high temp is unusual for this time of year, but like I said, I don't think it got to 90, but in the upper 80's for sure.
The dress your DD got is beautiful! And I bet she does look stunning in it - especially in the black. I'm sure it is hard for your DD going from a 2 to a 6. I have been in an 8 and once in awhile a 6, but I'm sure for her that's a huge change. I'm a 10 now and if I was wearing 14's that would a big difference. But, I know sometimes it's hard to think that someone that thin complaining about being a bit bigger, "small" size.
I hope your DGS is feeling better and getting some rest even if he can't get to bed early. Sometimes that helps.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Mema - I'm glad you had a good Bible study, and 5 also for Zumba.
I'm sorry your DH has a bad cold! I hope you won't get it, after all the time you had that cough.
I'm sorry it will be so hot today, and I'm sorry you had some rain drops to mess up your clean windows!
You do have a lot going on today. I hope it all goes smoothly. I got my haircut yesterday and she did a good job as always.
I'm sorry you didn't care for the half-time show during Sunday's game. I don't think I've ever seen Shakira, until a couple of photos this week.
I agree that whatever work Jane Fonda has had was very well done! Someone else mentioned how awful Kenny Rogers looks since he had surgery. I'll have to look him up. I remember Joan Rivers who looked as if she'd had at least one too many face lifts! There was a joke, a little rude, but it was, if Joan Rivers has one more face lift, she'll have a beard. It was sad that she died so suddenly. I have also seen Jane Fonda in Book Club and really liked that movie.
I'll be going to the lab tomorrow, and to get my pedicure Thursday, so I've arranged for buses for the round trips.

Kate - I think that dress looks very pretty! I'm sorry your DD doesn't think it's stunning, but I'm sure she looks beautiful in it. I know, it is hard to sympathize with a person who's unhappy as a size 6!
I'm glad your DGS is able to be back in school. Did he get any extra sleep while he was at your house yesterday? I'm sorry he hasn't been getting enough rest.

My leg is 'leaking' a lot again today. I didn't have it propped up enough yesterday. I need to get to the couch now so I can get it up today.

All of a sudden, I can see some blue sky again! It was very cloudy all morning.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – sometimes it’s nice to have a smaller group for discussion and study. Sorry your DH is sick. Did he catch the cold from you?

Wow! 90 degrees! So early in the year!

Leslie – glad you got to exercise class.

It is interesting that we’re all getting haircuts this week.

I had a quiet morning w/ DGS. Read to him for quite a while as he rested. DD called to say she might get off a bit early from work and wanted me to come dress shopping with her. She has a “black tie” event on the 15th and nothing to wear. So we left DGS w/ my DH and went to the mall. We walked from one end of the mall to the other and then back trying on dresses. Every dress either wasn’t what she wanted or she didn’t like the way she looked in it. She spent most of her life as a size 2 but has moved up to a size 6. She kept moaning about “what has happened to my body” – other than giving birth, having a stressful job, multiple health problems and being in her 30’s?? Having never been less than a size 8 at my very lightest, I can only shrug. She finally got this dress – although in black not grey. It fits well and looks lovely but it’s not ‘stunning’ which is what she wanted.

DGS’s back in school today but my DD is working late so I’ll be driving down to Boston to pick him up after school. He was up late on Sunday b/c they were at a super bowl party, then last night b/c of the mall trip, and he’ll be up late tonight, too. Poor kid – being sick and not getting enough sleep on top of that.

There were only 5 of us for Bible study this morning, but we still had a good study. Normally there are 9 of us. When I got home, DH told me he had a bad cold and would not be going to his meeting tonight. He doesn't sound good, either. I'm doing better, so I'm staying FAR away from DH for the next few days! LOL

There were 5 of us for Zumba today - that was still good. I enjoy it, so it doesn't really matter how many show up.

Tomorrow will be a busy day and it's going to be hot here - 90 degrees they are forecasting! It was in the 70's here today, but windy. And wouldn't you know, we weren't suppose to get any rain (#1 reason I washed windows) for the next 10 days or so and tonight we had just enough drops to mess up some of them! Grrrrrrr.......I'll have to wipe them down tomorrow. The rain down here tends to have a lot of dust in it, so it can really make a mess when it dries.

I have Bible study at church tomorrow, run a couple of errands, then my meeting. Come home for a bit and then go get my hair cut. That is funny we all are having cuts this week.

Leslie - I didn't really watch the game much. Although I would have preferred SF to win only because my mom always liked SF when Joe Montana was on their team. And it looked like they were going to for awhile. But I'm glad for KC since it's been so long for them. I was not impressed with the half-time show, though. I thought it was a bit too much, especially for kids watching. Pretty suggestive. I expected better from J-Lo, but maybe she was trying to compete with Shakira who is 7 years younger than her. I would have liked more singing and not so much gyrating! LOL I agree that Jane Fonda does look fabulous! And I'm sure she's had to have work done, but her "look" hasn't changed drastically as with some - like even Kenny Rogers! Yikes! He was always so good looking, but now he doesn't even look like himself anymore. Too many of them end up that way. I saw Jane Fonda in Book Club and she was beautiful. And it was a great movie!
Glad you made it to exercise.
I hope your trip to the Lab for your blood work goes well.
Did you get a call back for your pedicure appointment?

Kate - How was your DGS today while you were watching him? Hope he rested and feels better.
I did like the Walmart commercial, too.
My mom always loved Wendy's - she especially loved their chocolate Frosty's. Every so often when I would go and see her, I'd stop at the Wendy's on my way and bring her one! Those are pretty tasty!
I love the dog crate - what a great idea! Functional in more than one way!
The Harvest salad does sound like it would be good and tasty. Most of the other food sounds good, too except for the vegetarian options. I'm not a big fan of that.
Wow, having a sensitivity to garlic and onions - I, too use both of those a ton!

Have a great day!

Mema - did you enjoy the game? I was glad Kansas City won since it had been so long since they'd won it. I didn't watch any of the game.
You wish you'd looked like J-Lo at 50, and I wish I could look like Jane Fonda who is 80-something! I don't think she looks more than 50. I love watching her and Lily Tomlin in Grace & Frankie!
Your meal at McDonald's sounds good. The other fries I really love are from Popeye's - I don't know what they season them with but I think they are delicious!
That performance about the story of Ruth sounds amazing! I also love that story.
I have given up on the compression stockings for now. I can't be calling my neighbour to help me every day, and it is very frustrating trying to get them on and off! I'll discuss it with my doctor when I see her in March.
I love the idea of using the armadillo instead of a groundhog - hahaha!

Kate - I'm sorry your DGS is sick. I hope he'll actually rest today!
We're all getting haircuts this week - mine is this afternoon. She'll be here in about half an hour.
Thank you for mentioning the compression socks with zippers. I have seen them. My feet and ankles are also swollen though, so I don't think they would work, and I can picture having to struggle with the zipper too... They do sound good for some people though!
I love that dog crate - it's really lovely, and what a great idea! How often do they need to put one of the dogs in a crate?
The food you tried all sounded good at the venue! That harvest salad does sound wonderful!
I'm sorry DF can't eat garlic or onions! I would hate that. I love onions, and put garlic into almost everything! My housekeeper has IBS so also avoids those things and she really misses them.

I've been to the exercise class this morning, and arranged for a bus to the lab on Wednesday, and have left a message at the spa in hopes of getting a pedicure appointment later this week. Now I'm waiting to get my hair cut, then I'll need to get my feet up.

I hope you're both having good days, and DGS is feeling better!

DGS just called me to ask if I could take care of him today. He's got a bad cold and feels awful. So DD will be dropping him off on her way to work.

Mema – I only watch the first quarter of the game, but I did like the Walmart commercial that referenced all the old sci fi movies.

My haircut is scheduled for this week, too, but on Thursday.

I love the story of Ruth. That performance sounds so lovely.

I think the MacDonald’s fries are the best, too, but I like the other food better at Wendy’s so we usually go there when I’m craving a burger. Or we go to Fuddruckers and I get my burger served on lettuce.

Leslie – I know they make compression socks w/ zippers up the side of the calf. If you find that elevation alone isn’t enough and you need them, it may be worth the investment to buy a pair.

The gift I bought from DS and DF’s registry is a dog crate that looks like an end table. My DS had a big metal crate but it was really out of place w/ all the nice decoration that DF is doing to their house so they got rid of it. So – it’s kind of a funny gift for DF when the dogs technically belong to DS, but I’m sure it was her idea.

The trip to the wedding venue was fun. I thought the food was quite nice although, like most places, the amount of veggies was too small. They served us 6 appetizers but I only got 4 on my plate b/c of the sesame allergy. The MIL said she was vegetarian b/c she wanted to see what options they had so she got only 2. I split mine w/ her so she could taste them.

Then there were 3 tiny salads served side by side on a rectangular plate – Caesar, plain green salad, and a “harvest” salad w/ dried cranberries, nuts and goat cheese. That one was the pick for everyone.

They gave us smallish portions of 4 different entrees: roast tenderloin, a chicken breast, bacon wrapped cod, and squash ravioli, each w/ small portions of their accompanying starch and veg. Again I shared a bit of each w/ the MIL. She only got 3 options – the ravioli, a quinoa stuffed portabella and a veggie stack w/ portabella on the top and bottom that looked like you could almost pick it up as a burger.

Poor DF has a sensitivity to garlic and onions so she got all of her choices w/ no dressings or sauces.

I'm getting on the computer early today because I'm going to watch the Super Bowl when it comes on. Actually, I just like the commercials and I do want to see the half-time show. I like both Jennifer Lopez and Shakira (at least some of their songs). For 50 years old, I wish I had looked like J-Lo does! But I'm sure she works at it!

I did do some things around here - I got my ironing done and then I did notice this morning before we left for church there were 2 "smears" on one of my windows, so I took care of that. Our kitchen and living room windows face East, so I can see right away any spots that need to be taken care of. And then just some other paperwork stuff that needed to be done. I also made an appointment to get my hair cut for Tuesday afternoon.

Tomorrow is Bible study and Zumba. DH has his meeting in the evening, so I may clean his bathroom and steam the tile floors again.

Leslie - I have been getting the double cheeseburger/small fries combo for $3 at McDonald's. I have had the chicken sandwich, too. And yes, their fries are good.
The performance last night was great! It's a solo musical drama - so she kind of played 3 parts - Naomi the mother, Ruth the daughter-in-law and then Boaz (that was a small part). She wrote all the music - lyrics and melodies. She mainly tells the story thru song. A very talented woman. And a good friend, too. Her husband and my DH go to the same men's Bible study on Thursday mornings up at the clubhouse.
I'm sorry you are having such a time with the hose. That does have to be frustrating and hard. And I'm sure it's a bit harder with the way your back is. If you can keep your legs elevated, I'm sure that will help. And I would let your doctor know what a hard time you have with those the next time you see him/her. Maybe they can suggest something else for you.
The bread in the stores here also runs about $2-$3 a loaf, so that's why I like to get it at the outlet if I can.
Well, I guess Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow either, so it's supposed to be an early spring here, too! In TX, we have Bee Cave Bob the Armadillo! I just found that out. Bee Cave is a town in TX - since we have no groundhogs here in TX, they use an Armadillo! LOL He didn't see his shadow, either!

Kate - WOW! 47 windows!! I would hire that out, too! I feel kind of foolish for complaining about my 11 windows now! LOL emoticon And we don't have storm windows or anything like that. We have screens, but only on the bottom half of the windows.
So, what did you have at your tasting venue? We didn't go to anything like that when my DS got married and I was in TX when my DIL was trying on bridal gowns. But I did get to see her for one of her final fittings. That is very nice you are included in so many things for this wedding.

Time to get supper going and watch the game...er, I mean commercials! emoticon

Happy Monday!

Mema - that does sound like a busy day for you yesterday! I'm glad you've got almost all the windows done, inside and out. That sounds like a big job.
I'm glad you had a break by having dinner at McDonald's. What do you usually have there? I usually get the chicken sandwich. I do love their fries too!
How was the performance you went to?
I'm sorry you're having some computer issues. It's good that your DH knows how to fix it. I hope it won't take too long.
I got the support hose on today, with much squirming and feelings of exasperation, and a couple of hours later, I had 'pins and needles' all up and down my right leg - my leg had gone to sleep. I was able to get the stockings down to my ankles, but could not get them off over my feet. I had to call a very nice neighbour, who is also a retired nurse, and she was able to pull them off, with great effort. I think I'll just give up on those, and stick with elevating my legs as much as possible. My phone is getting a workout as I keep setting the timer for legs up or down.
That rye bread for 50 cents sounds wonderful, and even the whole wheat bread sounds excellent. I seem to be paying between $2-3 here for a loaf of bread. I do like some others, like sourdough, or real French bread. I'm still trying to find a good rye bread here. I got one at Walmart once, so next time I'm there, I'll get more of it.

Kate - I do have a rubber thing that's supposed to help get the stockings on and off, but it sure wasn't helping me today! I don't want to wrestle them on and have to call my neighbour to help me get them off!
I'm sure DF will really appreciate the stocking! What did you buy from their registry? I'm sure your DD will be happy to go in on that with you.
I'm glad you're going to the reception venue for the tasting event - that sounds like great fun! It is very nice that they are including their parents in this event.

Our groundhog, Wiarton Willie, did not see his shadow so it's supposed to be an early spring.
Now I need to get my feet up again!

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – sounds like your appointments are having good results – no lung disease, tooth fixed, and just support hose and leg elevation for the swelling.

I guess you’ll have to learn how to get the hose on so there is some slack around the heel. I’ve heard they’re hard to get on and off so there must be a knack for doing it.

The MOB decided to go together w/ her MIL to buy a big set of pots and pans for the new couple. I’m going to give DF the stocking for the shower and I have bought another item from their registry. I’ll offer my DD a chance to go together on that. I know she won’t have a chance to shop.

Mema – that does sound like a very busy day. Glad you can rest today. That’s what the Sabbath is for, right?

Sorry your computer is having issues. Hope the fix is quicker than you fear it will be.

I hire a father and son company to do our windows. We have 47 of them on 3 stories. And none of them can be reached from outside except for the 4 that overlook the front porch. Plus there are triple track storm windows so each window has the two storm windows that have to be removed and cleaned as well as the regular windows. I do love all the light from all the windows but it’s quite a chore to clean them.

We’re leaving church early today to head out to the wedding reception venue. I’ve seen photos of it but this will be our first visit. Today is a big group menu tasting event. Every bridal couple can bring their parents along to sample the different offerings for the reception dinner. Of course, as parents of the groom, we don’t have any say in the choices. But it’s nice to be included.

It was a very busy day today. Went to church this morning and got the communion set up for this afternoon's service. Then to Walmart to pick up my Rx and just a couple other items. Once I got home I started in on the windows. Got them all done inside and out with the exception of one in our dining room and one in the den. Those 2 windows face West and so we have an extra screen on both of those for sun protection and DH has to take those off for me and he wasn't up for that job today. That was fine with me because the 11other windows I did were enough for today. The bedroom windows are 32x58 and the kitchen and living room are longer than that. I had a little bit of time before I had to go back to church so I washed my comforter and pillow shams.
We had McDonald's for dinner tonight because then we headed to the clubhouse for a performance of the book of Ruth. That woman who I have mentioned before was giving that performance tonight only.
Whew!! Long day.

Glad I don't have anything planned for tomorrow! I do need to do my Bible study lesson, but I'm not leading so there's no extra work for me.

My computer is having some issues so I'm doing this on my phone. Which is kind of a pain. I can type so much faster than doing this on my phone. It's an issue that happens once in awhile and DH knows what he has to do to fix it, but it's going to be a long fix.

Leslie - sorry your support hose were hurting you. I hope you can figure out what the problem was. That certainly would not be good to have that keep happening.
The bread outlet doesn't carry anything fancy, it's just that I can get my bread and DH's bread there really cheap. It's over runs from other stores. DH loves rye bread and they carry it there for .50 a loaf. And it's Walmarts brand - Great Value. I prefer whole wheat and mine is .99 a loaf. Plus they carry hamburger and hot dog buns and then a bunch of snack items. But I just usually buy bread and buns. So it's not that I can't get what I need, I just have to pay more for it. We do have a place here that sells all sorts of specialty breads and a lot of people that live in our club go there. I will occasionally if I need something for a special occasion. It's a regular retail store so no discounted items.
Once I get my mind set that I'm going to be washing windows, then it's not a big deal. It's more the thinking about it before hand. LOL

Kate - I was wondering if that was the reason for the chest x-ray because of the possibility of that type of cancer spreading there. DH will be calling for the appointment this next week. He even said he was going to ask her (the dermatologist) if he needs to be seen twice a year instead of once a year. At least for a while.
I'm not sure why our church started the Sat services. I think because Jan and Feb are the 2 months with the most winter Texans here and instead of having 2 Sunday services they opted for the Sat service. That service only gets about 25-30 people at the most. Doesn't really seem like it would be worth it to me, but I'm not in charge. emoticon
Nice that you don't have to do anything for the shower. Will you have to attend any other showers?

Have a relaxing Sunday!
