I can see why people would use face time for phone calls, just to see another human being. I can only imagine that FreeCycle sharing would be way down at this point, even though most people just leave things outside and have no contact with the recipient. I was working in the yard once when someone came to retrieve her freebie, and waved and said "hello." She scuttled out of there like I was a pariah. And that was years before any pandemic. Some people are such fraidy cats.

What is a llama basket? My cousin in GA used to raise llamas. She said they were so gentle, they were her mental health stress relievers. Never worried about the grandchildren being in the pen with them.

I said to my friend that we didn't have to worry about picking out an Easter outfit now. I looked in my closet and thought about how many things I'm not wearing on a regular basis now that we don't have church. No need to dress up. I'm in sweats most of the time.

The neighbor across the ravine indeed had a party last night, but no one ventured onto the patio although he turned on his party lights about 10. His forsythia is blooming and is such a lovely thing to see, as I am seating at a back window when I'm on the computer.

Pat, they are supposed to change their masks but now they are not because of the shortage of masks---so those will be so useful to them. We are really putting our heath care workers to the test and so unfairly---also our first responders. My firefighter son says they are given one mask for the 24 hour shift and that is the only one they have---so they have to wear the one for all runs. Doesn't sound too safe, does it?
Is your Dh crazy? Where in the world is he going? Now, if he is just driving around and not getting out, that would be okay. But I do understand how he feels about being stuck at home. But I agree that I would want to strangle him or something by endangering you that way. We are going to the church parking lot today to pick up a sign for my dh's shed. I asked a fellow church member's dh to make it for us and it is finally finished, and since we don't know where they live, this is the best way to get it. But we can keep our distance while doing it but also get to see some people in person and chat---that will feel so good while doing that.
Did you see where some states are going to try and stop people from buying other things at Walmart and places like that? Now how crazy is that? No way are they going to stop me in this manner. I do plan on buying flowers and veggie plants if our school greenhouses can't be opened. Plus sometimes you just need to buy something else. Like my gd's birthday is coming up plus so is Easter so I plan on tetting her a llama basket and some craft stuff for her birthday. Some parents might need to buy some school supplies and kids do outgrow clothes and shoes with the change of season coming up.

How nice you were able to give your friend things for the kids to keep them occupied. I just took a half hour walk. Others are good to keep their distance, but smile and wave.

DH is aggravating me something fierce. He finds an excuse to go out every single day and wears neither gloves nor a mask. emoticon This is not an emoticon of someone tearing his hair out, but it's the only choice I have. I really don't mind staying at home. There's plenty to do, but I don't like being put in harm's way.

I gave quite a bit of cotton fabric to a friend who is sewing masks for nurses. She lines cotton fabric with Pellon bonded interfacing and inserts a hepa filter, which filters even more than an N95 mask. Good that fabric is getting used. I guess I should go into the rest of my tubs and see if there isn't something more emoticon in there I could be making that would be suitable for hospital use. Nurses who work with contagious patients have to change masks after every case. Even if they are washable, that is still a lot of masks for a 12-hour shift.

Pat, glad you had weather worth going out for a walk in---we should have that next week. It has been super windy and cool here this week. I have been doing that kind of deep cleaning in all the rooms---well, almost all---working my way thru this---this week it has been the dining room---today is my desk---sigh---I hate doing this---I keep piling it up, but I might move a few things to another area that I cleared space in so maybe it won't be so bad for a bit. Next week---well, probably for 2 weeks---I will be doing the deep cleaning on the kitchen---if it is nice I need to be outside weeding and getting that vitamin D from the sun--plus I need to get out of the house more.
Yesterday was a good day---we ran a few errands---bank, post office, Food Lion. As we were headed home I got a phone call from a fellow church member which was nice to hear her voice. Then when we got home, I had a visitor---a friend from work on his way home from picking up his gf's car---it was so good to see him and he is going to come help me with my gardening once I am able to buy some plants. He's the one that pulled up the million trees that sprang up last year everywhere---already have some growing in a raised bed that I need to pull up next week--usually it is end of April before they start being a problem. If all the trees that spring up were allowed to grow, I would be living in a forest---LOL The visit really made my day and my week! And I sent him home with a bunch of stuff that my gd has outgrown to give his gf's kids something to do.

Almost 60° emoticon here and we've already taken a walk emoticon around lunchtime. Others out, too -- even golfers emoticon . DH is fasting today, so I am eating when I feel like it. Just warmed up the tuna casserole from 2 nights ago. Usually I use 2 cans of tuna emoticon , but limited it to one this time and finished up the end of a bag of tri-color rotini. I also have quite a bit of rotisserie chicken left and can add that to the chicken/cauliflower soup I made Monday night.
I've been deep cleaning this and that in the kitchen and bath, you know, the kind of cleaning that entails saturating things like edges of shower doors, then going after the gunk with a grout brush or a toothpick. My Kitchen Aid mixer is gleaming.

I think the correct term is birder. That's crazy--a lot of hospital staffs are going to be wearing masks and gowns made from baseball team material soon----the company that makes the uniforms has switched over to making them from the material they have on hand. Honestly, they just need to get over that nonsense. I guess if it comes to you need to have your mouth covered when you go out I will just drape a scarf across mine or a bandana.
Hope you get that bush trimmed before the nesting occurs---yikes!
Next week looks to be nice so that I can get outside and do some yard stuff and walk down to the local market that just reopened on April 1 to get fresh veggies and to get some exercise. Plus I need to get out of the house---this week has been too windy and very chilly so not condusive to being outside with all that pollen blowing around.

Awoke to invigorating sunshine today. Never made that coconut cake, nor a pumpkin pie for that matter. Did you know it is a good thing to set your pillows in the sunshine? Did that this morning while the sheets were in the washer. Raked the leaves that seem to love to gather behind the patio furniture and in corners. Then it was time to bake the chocolate chip cookies, make chicken salad for lunch and assemble the ingredients for macaroni salad, which only DH and DIL like. I won't taste it, since it doesn't appeal at all to me, but DH gobbled up his sample.
Walking a few cookies down to the friends/neighbors on the corner, then I'll prune the dead branches/leaves from the rhody before a robin builds a nest there and I will be attacked if I get too close. Another couple branches have fallen from the ash tree, so DH will saw those up and pitch them into the ravine. I also want to check the gutters in the front. It seems last rain there was a clog at the corner. Then it will be time to BBQ at son's, at the same time meeting someone there who wants a lot of the fabric I inherited to make toy elephants. She was making the nurses at one hospital their own masks to match their scrubs, but the hospital administration nixed that. Excuse me?! If you can wash the masks when you wash your uniform, what is the difference? I found a bird print and will make my friend a couple masks for her personal use. She is the definitive birdie (or is it birder?).

Pat, I will be right there for a piece of that coconut cake---LOL At least they acknowledged that achievement. I think I will make some pumpkin muffins today---want something sweet and they are low calorie. It is cooler here today and I should go ahead and make my gd's fudge---her birthday is in 2 weeks but we might take it early. She has been bugging me about it--LOL Plus she likes my pumpkin muffins so I could also take her some of them, too.
Was kind of lazy yesterday so need to do a bit more today.

Jigsaw puzzles -- great idea. My friend said she and her DH are on their fourth one.

No electricity at all? At our last house that wouldn't have worked, since we needed a pump to get the water out of the well. My son #1 wouldn't have a problem with that, considering camping is a favorite thing to do. He even has one of those tents that is on a pulley that you suspend from a tree branch. "Rock a bye, Baby, in the tree tops..." emoticon

One of the cleaning ladies and her daughter are here a day late, which is good, because they won't lose the income. emoticon emoticon

DH is celebrating (well, got a shout out during a conference call) twenty years with his company today. Guess I should make a coconut cake.

Pat, we are lucky here. Heard that Russia is going to lock down--those poor people already have to wait in long lines to get anything so no way do they have stockpiles. We really are so blessed here and don't realize it. So far we have been able to get what we needed and wanted here.
Susan, that is rough--how nice that they offered to help out. Hard not to use electricity too much at this weird time of year---some days cold and some days warm---plus the kids need to do online learning sometimes. Hope we will still continue to hear from you now and then.
I am glad my job will continue to pay me but we would have been alright as long as they kept us on our health insurance if we were laid off. But I do hate not having anything to do while being paid.
I got my hallway cleaned yesterday--starting on the dining room today. Once I finish in here, I am going to get out a box of jigsaw puzzles for us to work on. I need more variety.

We're doing okay. Hubby is not working and I am not babysitting. He tried to apply for unemployment but he can't get through.
We are used to having emergencies, so we are pretty accustomed to how to cut corners.
Hubby almost took my last dollars to pay utilities, but I said, "I don't think they're going to shut our utilities off if it's an emergency for EVERYONE!" So he asked someone, and they will not shut off gas or electric. So that's cool.
Meanwhile, we don't want to be handed a mega bill at the end of all this, so we are turning our heat off tomorrow and we are being easy on the electricity. We have two refrigerators, so will cut that down to one.
Meanwhile, one of our military sons, in Hawaii, is offering to make money available to us, and our daughter in Texas is, too.
What a blessing!

I am grateful that we do not have a mortgage or a car payment.
We've never really had 'EXTRAS', so no loss there! :)

Thank God we don't live in certain cities or countries where no driving or public transport is allowed. India shut down and migrants are walking hundreds of miles to get home. No work = no money = no food. Starvation could kill as many as the virus. DH is sending funds to our friends in Rwanda. They have to get permission from local elders to go anywhere to get what is needed. It's no wonder people are stockpiling. We don't know what will come next.
I met son and DIL yesterday at the warehouse club. The amounts on shelves in the food section are dwindling. I needed to buy supplies for my 94-year-old mother in the nursing home. You'd think at an extra $50 a day, they could supply a couple incontinence items. I talked to her through her closed window. She waved and went back to sleep.
Cookout at Son #2's house Thursday. Will get my stress relief from visiting the grandpuppies.
Our cleaning woman texted that she was exposed to a sick person, so won't be coming. I keep the house pretty neat, so that's not a problem. Losing 2 weeks of income is definitely a problem for her. emoticon

Hi.
Does anyone know what the story is with Sparkguy Chris. I'm really behind on the news, I guess, because I went to read his blog, and just general spark stuff is there. I saw someone say that they were praying for his health challenges. The date was a loonnnnnng time ago. lol
What am I missing?

Boy, they really screwed up---bet that other customer was pissed off about their order being missing . Great that you could share with others. I think you might be tired of their food by the time you finish it all off---LOL Like you, I would have no room in my freezer if that happened. We are pretty well stocked in ours---had to figure out how to fit in all the spaghetti sauce I made this week so that filled up to the brim.
We did go thru the drive thru at Chick-fil-a this week---bought lunch for us and our middle son's family and went to visit our gd and take her some things to keep her occupied for a bit.
I sure don't like waiting in drive thru lanes---don't understand people wasting all that gas normally, Their drive thru is always busy but other places around there had very short lines while theirs are long---says something about their food. It was so good as I am tired of my own cooking. Dh has cooked out on the grill twice this week. So all I had to figure out is what we would have with it.
Somehow I am supposed to work from home starting on Monday---no idea what or how to do that---and somehow swipe in and out online, too. I finally figure out how to get to school email and now I am more confused than I was before---LOL
Finished in my bedroom this week---so next week is the hallway and dining room unless I have too much to do for work---Like that is going to happen---LOL

Sounds like you're making good progress. I should go through my clothes, but there are other more pressing needs.

Our Olive Garden order was a real mess up. They now bring the order to the car, having asked during the ordering process what kind of vehicle you are driving. I tried to order online, but not all menu items were available. I guess you were supposed to figure it out, but why put it online if you can't order it? Frustrated, I just called in our order and gave them a card number so DH wouldn't have to go to the trouble of handing them a card they would have to go back inside to run. Don't want any virus goonies on my credit card, which my husband would have handled, then passed to me. The virus can live on plastic surfaces for three days. He picked up the order and handed me the bag, which I thought was awfully heavy for only two entrees, soup and salad. I kept pulling out entrees like a magician pulling rabbits out of a hat. Then I found the slip. They had given us the wrong order. The name was similar, but this family had ordered three buy-one-take-one-for-later items. We had six entrees! Calling them back, they told us to return to the restaurant for our order, which they would "refresh." Health laws (especially now) prohibited them from taking back the other order, so we were told to freeze them for up to three months (I have no room for that) or share them with neighbors. By the time we were finished, we had 8 entrees for less than $5 apiece. We had seen our friends out walking, so I called her and told her to stop at the front door and we would put a few things she said she would like into her bag for dinner. Then I called my son who lives ~10 minutes away and gave him the options of what was left. The entrees are so generous, we ate four meals and still have one more to prepare.

My computer has been offline for days. I was just logging in on my tablet to keep the streak going.

Weather has been getting warmer, but we had thunderstorms with large (at least the diameter of quarters) hail this afternoon. It sounded like bombs hitting the skylights in the office. It's still raining now. I'm looking forward to our church's live stream tomorrow morning and evening.

I use Bookbud too. I have way too many that I need to read--which I should set aside some time each day to do that, too. I have been making a list the past 2 days---haven't quite done everything on it everyday but pretty close---and putting in exercise on it at least 2 times a day. I do a lot of housewalking as it has been too wet or too chilly and wet outside to do any walking out there.
Dh and I have decided we need to alternate vehicles when we do need to go out---next time it is my car---just to keep the tires rotated and the engine started---don't have far to go but at least it will be something. We are definitely saving on gas usage at the moment. I am getting really tired of my own cooking ---LOL---so I do foresee ordering something soon----to help out those stores and to not have to cook.
Made good progress in my bedroom yesterday with the closet---filled up 2 bags of clothes to donate to GoodWill and a bag to be put in those bins that they shred the clothes---they don't mind well used or stained clothes in there. I have quite the pile in my spare room right now.

I have not been out for over a week. Really, it seems more like two. So I don't know the gas prices.

For years now I've been getting new books through my online Kindle account using the Bookbub app. Decide which genres you want to see and they will send a daily email with offers of books no more than $2.99, and sometimes there are a couple for free. Once the day is done, the offer is gone. Of course, you can always order anything else through the Amazon site.

Our friend in Florida is grousing that his wife's bank (she is the branch manager) has done away with drive up windows in all the locations and replaced them with ATM's. Our Chase branch has inside ATM's which give you more currency options like hundreds, fives and ones. Drive up ones only give twenties.

At this point I'm glad to have the option to tap my credit card, which I use for almost everything because it gives me points.

DH wants Olive Garden for an early dinner and I have to go online to see if it can be paid for at the time of ordering. Last night I went to bed at 11, woke at 2, couldn't get back to sleep, so read until 6:30, slept again and awoke at 10. This will be a very strange day.

Our governor said he is not putting us on lock-down but he closed all stores except for essential ones---so how it that not a lockdown? We had to go to Barnes and Noble yesterday to get the book I ordered for my gd before it shut down.
Those banners sound nice. Is your church doing online services now? We are not allowed to gather more than 10 people together here.
I always go into my bank but wonder if soon they will make it all just thru the drive thru---I hate drive thrus of any kind---LOL---such a waste of gas. But our gas prices just dropped below $2 here. What are they there?

There are three banners for each side of the church platform (big enough to be a stage for plays, which have been done in the past), each banner having a cross. The three crosses symbolize the three crosses on Calvary. Each is different. Jesus's cross is gold, the thief who reviled him (actually they both did at first) is a dark blue, and the thief who asked Jesus to remember him when He came into his kingdom is dark blue with a gold border. DIL has decided with all the shut downs to wait until before Palm Sunday to put them up.
The widower cancelled the visit because he had to run a whole bunch of errands since we're on lockdown as of midnight tonight. No one is to be on the roads unless it's for groceries, medicine or another essential. What we hoped to accomplish has no need to be done right now, so we'll wait for a bit.
Had a nice chat with our friend in Florida whose wife is the branch manager of a Bank of America down there. They don't have a drive up window option and only the tellers get gloves and masks. Seriously? I'd be providing my own.

They don't want us to go anywhere at any time except to get food or groceries around here. And we don't live where the outbreak is bad---it is bad around Baltimore and DC---so I doubt I will be going back to work on the 30th. They just announced that only locals that live in Ocean City are to go out on the beaches to walk around and that they are to keep social distancing and only families could be in a group. It does make sense that locals only can go on the beach. About the only thing that does. I am glad we are okay financially with Dh's social security as long as they keep up my health insurance at work, I could go without pay for a bit. But there are a lot of people in my area that pretty much live paycheck to paycheck.
What is the banner for? Hope you can get out to help that person today.
Today I think I will make plans for the week---I need some structure.

I haven't looked at the options, but I'm wondering what people are doing to stay positive. Our governor wants no one to go out after midnight tomorrow. Good thing I arranged to help a widower with making a sewing kit for his daughter tomorrow afternoon. Neither of us is sick, but I'll check again if he wants me to come.
DIL finally nailed down a time for the banner hanging, but I wonder if I'll be pulled over since it is Tuesday morning. Maybe I'll just take them over tomorrow morning and leave them for her and Son #2 to do by themselves if police will be patrolling. DH will go to the office to get stuff to work from home.

Glad you had company and something to do. Of course men don't think about telling us in advance. I hope your Dh gets to give that sermon in some manner for the teens.
Started the deep clean in my bedroom yesterday---only did one corner but totally emptied things and cleaned inside and out. Found stuff to donate and some things to throw out. Will move on to the next corner on Monday.
I have decided that occasionally I need to dress up a bit and wear a necklace. It makes me feel better to not just be in casual stuff all the time. I need to do this to keep my emotions up.

Just when I think we'll have a sunny day, the clouds roll in, however, we started with snow this morning. More like fine hail, but it was gone almost as soon as it fell. Thank God for it having warmed up yesterday. DH and I walked for half an hour, then came home and raked up the side yard. Pretty much the rest of the day was given over to Son #1, who drove down from Cleveland to shop with his dad for a new laptop. He brought his two dogs, a boxer and a Plott hound. Enjoyed giving them some love. It's true, animals bring down your stress level. We had pizza on homemade crust (not cauliflower). Nothing about it was exceptionally healthy except the whole wheat flour and crimini mushrooms. Son put together the new coffee table his dad bought. Can't say I'm a fan, but I can get used to whatever comes my way.
This afternoon DH got Son #2's truck to transport the bed we were giving the guy he helped move mid-week. Had I known he was doing this, I could have assembled the bedding, etc. I zipped around, putting an ensemble together, but insisted on washing the sheets, as I wanted them fresh for his first night on them. They'd been in the linen closet a while, as we didn't use that bed often.
In between all this, DH keeps handing me edits for his sermon, which he is scheduled to give Easter weekend, Saturday at the youth service. Type and retype and reprint. So it goes every time he speaks. Thankfully, it's not more than about once a year.

We seem to need to rake all year long around here---just when you think you got the majority of them they blow in from somewhere else---LOL It was too warm and humid here to do much outside but I did get out and cleaned off the grill area tops with window cleaner and then tackled the window ledges of the windows I can reach from the ground. I think I will start tackling my bedroom today.
I ran into a couple of people I work with while at Walmart yesterday---it was nice to see them and to chat. We all think we will be out for longer than the 2 weeks. I wish it wouldn't be so but they are shutting everything down around the state---now the malls and all the playgrounds have been closed.
I sure hope it is not rainy all next week---the gloom will not help me deal with this stay at home challenge.

It has stopped raining and warmed up quite a bit. The light bulb in the lamppost had burnt out, so I replaced it and cleaned it out while I was at it. Still had a damp rag from having cleaned our and the neighbors' mailboxes. Amazing how crudy they can get. With cleaner in hand I sprayed the backdoor and scrubbed it. You never think of the dirt you're getting on it when you hold it open with your foot while bringing things out for the BBQ or patio meals.
The golf course workers rake leaves under the bushes to protect them over the winter. Now they are blowing over here and it looks a sight. DH said he wants to walk in an hour, but I think we need to rake. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yes, that is not mentioned in the news that churches will also be suffering as a lot of people won't be giving anything at this time and they still have bills to pay, too.
Sounds like you have made a good start at things too. I worked outside yesterday on a garden bed that needs back wall replaced and fresh dirt. We went and got supplies yesterday for that and started the work. It felt good to be outside and to go somewhere. Next week will be a cooler and the next 2 days are going to be warm---so I plan on being outside as much as possible before I am cooped up inside again.

Apparently, the college crowd thinks they're immortal and impervious to harm. They think they're free for a three-week spring break in Florida. How glad I am we went and were back before they descended.
Glad you're plugging away at the spring cleaning. I noticed when I blew the leaves off the office addition roof, they fell down to the lower deck, so I swept that off and then went out to sweep the edge of the drive. So much road grit kicks up there. Did a little clean up in the baking area of the pantry and organized the large cabinet in the bathroom.
One-mile walk with Leslie Sansone and I'm back to the emails. Son #2 asked me to get all the photos off my phone so we can transfer anything else onto a new one. This Samsung has served long and hard. I really don't need a new phone, but these folks around here seem to think I need to update. Pfft.
The nursing home called, asking for my email. Their trial of calls to family is over. They'd call about one thing and two hours later a change would be implemented and they'd have to call again. We will be getting emails in future.
Within 12 hours I got a text and an email from church, letting us know that a forced closure is in place, but they will stream three times during the weekend. If this self quarantine goes any longer, my husband won't be speaking at the youth service. One point that the church made was that the work continues and we should not forget to send in our tithes and offerings. Never occurred to me that we could pay online.

That is what Ocean City is---wholly geared towards the summer beach crowd---what a mess that will be.
Got the bathroom done----now to decide which room to tackle next---the living room or the bedroom---both will take several days and I will need Dh to pitch in on some things---oh he will not be happy about that----LOL But we do hope to get some garden supplies and hoping the rain will hold off some the next 2 days so we can get the front bed repaired while the weather is nice again.

My youngest son's gf's son---so I call him my practice one since he is not blood related or even marriage related yet--- I hope that changes soon. I don't understand these young people anymore. He's the one we took to Disney World.
My son works for a Sound company---his work is the only thing keeping his company going---he sells and does sound and lighting installation at all sorts of places---but sure this will eventually not get any more jobs as places won't be open or have the money to do these things. It is scary and a whole lot of people just went on unemployment with all the bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and workout centers being closed down here in Maryland. I think they are going way overboard. Now they are talking to the end of the summer and that will totally devastate our area. I have no idea if we will go back to school in 2 weeks and how they will manage our pay but I sure hope we can keep our health insurance coverage.

Very few couples could stand to be around each other 24 hours a day. At this point, I just can't imagine retirement for DH. Lots of people will be getting on each other's nerves the next while. I picked up a reserved book at the library and found out they will close from tomorrow till April 6. My friend from Canada said the border is closed, except they will let citizens back in, just as they will let Americans fly in from Europe. Just got an email from a local restaurant saying they are closing (no carry out either) for the time being. DH went to a grocery and said there is not a loaf of bread to be had. I have yeast, I have flour, I can make bread. I went to Aldi and they have no eggs. A sign at the register said they are not giving out any additional money if you use a debit card. Target has no toilet tissue. So glad we have plenty. Son #2 said he got the last cases of water from a local store. And here's the kicker--Son #1 works at an A-V events company which now has canceled everything and he's lost his job. I can't imagine how hard this must be for others.

Right now we are closed for 2 weeks---so I figure I will do some Spring cleaning as I don't know if we will have to make them up in June when I normally do that. It gives me something to do, too. We are going to watch our practice grandson 2 days this week---his mom works at home but he often bothers her---her mom is watching 2 other days. She works for an events group that books hotels for them---they have had a lot of cancellations that she is having to deal with. My son said that his company has had 20 events cancelled and his area is the only thing keeping the company going---he does installations of sound and lighting at churches, restaurants, hotels, etc----and they are getting lots of calls for help setting up live streaming of sermons.
Now if only my dh doesn't drive me crazy---he just had to tell me that the cat was out of the way ---like I couldn't see that the cat is laying on the couch when I went in there to get a tissue? Or he tells me the same thing he has already told me a thousand times. I definitely will need to find something to do when I retire to get away from him----LOL

Our schools are closed for three weeks, but spring break week would be included. Tonight at 9, no one can eat or drink inside a restaurant or bar. Carry out is allowed. Businesses are emailing everyone on their lists to let them know how much cleaner they are keeping things. You couldn't have done that before? I mentioned to a cashier at First Watch about a year ago, that I didn't think it was a good idea to have their silverware, which was wrapped in a napkin, eating end out, to be sitting in a basket by the register. How many people breathed, coughed or sneezed on those? Health department, do your job! The basket is no longer there.
I agree that alarmists are creating such a panic. Someone did some research and said 16,000 had died of the flu. 37 had died of Corona virus as of Friday.

Pat, that was quite the workout. Good for you!
Our governor has closed the schools for 2 weeks so I hope to be as productive as you with my time off starting at the end of the day today. I am sure I will get a workout today because I have to clear off all flat surfaces so they can be deep cleaned while we are off. But I am trying to figure out what they are cleaning since as far as I know, no one in our area has the darn virus. This is just crazy panic! And no idea if we have to make up these days in June yet. I sure hope not.

Temps were higher today and the sun was out. The break from cloudy skies led me outside. I got out the leaf blower and cleaned off the office roof, patio, walkway beside the garage and the entry. Blew leaves out of the narrow garden area between the garage and the walkway where the sweet woodruff grows plus the coral bells area. Raked off the small grassed area behind the English garden and turned over half the soil in that garden. In the grass I saw something I had never seen before. A squirrel had been captured and eaten and the evidence was only a pile of fur and the very end of the tail. I wonder what animal had that feast. My back said emoticon so I did. Someone (need I name names?) left the grass clippings in the mower, so I dumped that out and did a thorough scraping on the under side. Emptied the puddled water from the plastic covering the patio furniture. It took over an hour, so I'm counting that as my exercise. Boy, did it feel good to shower!

I was surprised at the temp (62°) when I went to my car last night at 10 o'clock to come home. Lovely. Today it was raining emoticon first thing. It has stopped for the time being, but is very overcast. I have a haircut appointment at 1:30 and I may check the ads for groceries emoticon on sale. I need a few things. DH hasn't let me know yet if he will be home from his sales meeting in Michigan in time for dinner. I was saying to him that it's too bad he doesn't have a current pilot's license. He could hop in a Cessna and be there in much less time, flying across the lake.

Pat, that is a good question that I don't know the answer to. Now I need to find it out---LOL---I think these are daffodils but I have some light yellow with orange centers at my house that might be considered jouquils---I just call them all daffodils. Trees are blooming all over the place here---the maple tree in our next door neighbor's yard is already sending buds down on to my car. The trees at my church already have their flowers--way too early---just hoping the local orchards are not in bloom as I am afraid a hard frost might still hit here---it is too early to not get one.
It sure feels like Spring here today. I got home from work yesterday and used the extra daylight to pull some weeds.

Lecates, I like the new flowers. Are they daffodils or jonquils? Aren't all daffs jonquils, but not all jonquils are daffodils? Are they from your yard? Right now I can see across the ravine to a patch of green and I know pretty soon they will be sprouting daffodils...or maybe they are the jonquils.

lol, Ann, this is what keeps me motivated to keep my house reasonably tidy:
worrying about what the fire-fighters and police would say if they ever had to come to my door!

My mom's friend would clean her house, when she knew company was coming, then leave the sweeper in an obvious spot and say, "Oh! I was JUST going to clean the house!"

hahahahahahaha WHAT a SMOOTH move! Talk about the science of psychology!

Pat, I know it doesn't sound fair but if you have been given quotes on those treatments and the different rates, hard to argue about it. Now, on the yearly thing, if those things that you got charged the double fees are included, then paying ahead seems to make sense because then they can't double bill you. Ask about that to help you make the decision. But if you asked for the additional treatment, then you will have to pay the extra, no matter how unfair it is. The people that put those chemicals down have to go thru a training and the company has to have passed a very hard test in order to put down the chemicals on your property. I know because I have taken the pesticide application test but only the one for doing it on my own property--the one for commercial use is even harder.
Ann, you didn't make the mess in a day so it will take you a while to clear it out unless you want to just hire a trash company to take it all away---and we both know that won't happen if you can help it. Set your timer and work til it goes off---you know your own limits---then take a break and go back when you are ready. Maybe you should set aside a certain time of day or a day of the week where that is your task to work on that----like making a doctor's appointment---if you don't do it that day, then do it the next---or wait until the next week. Also, pick a corner, a cabinet, a shelf, a side of the room---whatever is manageable to you and tackle that--then when it is done you can look at your results and see some progress---if you look at the big picture you will get too overwhelmed and stop----remember, step by step, shelf by shelf, inch by inch, etc will eventually lead you to accomplishing and making progress.
Nothing planed for the weekend here---I have some shredding staring at me so hope to get that done.

Jumping in here...

Several weeks ago the motor on my washer burned out. It was 25 years old, so time to bite the bullet. The basement is hoarder hell, so I took my time shopping for a new machine that would do what I needed, meanwhile getting the laundry area cleared out. This included moving the appliances and cupboards and repairing and painting the wall and floor which were quite hideous.

While it's been the kick in the pants that I needed to get serious about getting rid of stuff, all the upheaval has put clutter into other areas. I'm working at it bit by bit, but I'm worried something else will come along to suck up my time, or that I'll lose my momentum. This isn't something that gets fixed in a weekend or even a week. And I don't want to just stuff it out of sight again - I want to deal with it.

The new machine was delivered Wednesday, and I could hear one of the delivery guys gasp as they entered the basement. I wanted to shout at him - "you don't know my life for the past two years - it wasn't always this bad".

Anyway, I've been getting caught up with laundry and working on getting things in order. The new machine was the right choice for me and has worked well. Every time I put something in the donation bag or trash bag I feel a little better. A quick fix for the clutter would be nice, but we don't learn as much that way, do we?

Have a good weekend everyone!

Okay, guys, I have a question for you since you were talking about weeding. We use a lawn service, not for mowing, but for treatments. I called one time about a double charge when they had put two treatments on at one visit. All they did was to add extra chemical to the applicator, zip around the lawn in 10 minutes with their speedy vehicle and charge twice as much. No extra labor was expended, no more fuel to run the applicator. I was given no explanation, just a firm this is the charge. It was maddening. Sometimes they come once a month, sometimes twice. They even sent an offer to save about $25 if we'd pay the whole year in advance. Seriously?
I just don't think they're dealing fairly. What do you think? emoticon

Pat, they say interest rates are going down so maybe waiting is a good idea.
We are looking at having siding put on our house---one company gave us a quote right away and the other companies want us to wait a couple of weeks for theirs---I don't understand why---and we have had the other company install our windows and they did an excellent job so we will probably go with them. He gave us very good explanations about some issues and they offer reasonable financing options, too.
Got an interesting weeding tool at the flower show---want to get outside and try it out but of course this weekend is going to be cold but nice during the week.

Susan, that darn thing sounds way too complicated for me. Glad you will have a special visitor on your birthday and that all of those that can will be home for the baptism. Now, with one son in Hawaii, are you planning a visit? LOL Congrats to the one with his own home. Maybe you need to vary up the exercise --maybe add in a little weight lifting or using the bands to give you a bit more muscle. I need to do that, too.

Howdy! oh my it's been busy.
Well, I had a nice visit from Thing One and Thing Two....my marine sons....technically, Things 4 and 5, I guess. (a little Cat in the Hat humor), but now they are in North Carolina and Hawaii, respectively.
The REAL Thing One's Georgia Girlfriend will be up to Ohio visiting this weekend; looking forward to being with her on Monday (which happens to be my 52nd b-day!)
Then the real Thing 2, my oldest daughter, is coming this weekend from Texas, to witness Thing 8's baptism. (which is super sweet that she'd pay all that flight money to support her 15 yr old sister. :) Love it.

We had a flurry of action as Hubby had to make plans to call off work on Sunday so he could baptize our daughter, and I had to find someone to cover my Sunday School class, then Daughter 1 had to plan a flight, etc. And of course, we had to call Grandma so she could come.

Meanwhile, Thing 2, our son, got the keys to his new house last weekend! It's so exciting to see him creating a new household in our family. He's the first one to move out because he's going to be married. The others left to serve in the marines or at a mission in Texas.
My son and my daughter-in-love looked so grown-up as they showed us around the new house. Big grin.

I've been working out on the rebounder faithfully, 50 minutes 6 nights a week. The scale struggles so I'm going to add some minutes in the morning to get my metabolism up.
I have a real problem with lack of energy, so I've been searching for foods that help me. I've done pretty well this week. Found a cracker called Fuel Snacks...they are okay.
In the mornings, I get up at 6 to welcome the kids I babysit, then we lie back down until their bus comes a couple of hours later. After the bus, I'm usually dying to lie back down again. So I'm trying to fix that problem.
Now, when it's time for bus, I grab some energy crackers. Do the bus thing, and come home and get on the rebounder for a few minutes. Then make my breakfast of boiled eggs, slice of multi-grain toast, my pineapple/cayenne pepper drink, and a fruit (banana). After eating that, if the baby is still asleep, I'll rest for a few minutes. Soon the energy kicks in! I'm not USED to energy. It seems pretty level, too.
Well, anyway, that was THIS week. We'll see how I do next week. :)

So, meanwhile, I bought a scale like my husband's (we keep them in different parts of the house). It measures your weight, your BMI, body fat, water, muscle and estimated calorie range.
I got mine all set up, and get on. The water and muscle doesn't register.
So I waited a couple of days and decided to problem solve....
The directions say that the screen that came up means that "Estimated values are lower than the minimum values the scale can estimate!"
lol....so...it's saying I don't have enough MUSCLE to be noticed??????
Actually, I have quite a bit, but in comparison to my extra 80 pounds, I guess it doesn't count. hahaha. Oh boy.
I don't know WHAT to say about the WATER being too low. I drink a lot, but I also pee it out every hour or so.

OH the things I go through.
Hubby's face was hysterical when I told him this. He was like, "DANNNNG!"
And didn't dare say another word. lol
But the weight is moving downward, and the other sections seem to be moving right along with it, so maybe it's accurate.
Imagine my reaction when I get a registered number on my water and muscle finally!
emoticon emoticon
Talk to you later!

Even if we did find a place, once we'd mulled it over, it would be gone. I'd just as soon save the money right now and come up with a big down payment. Besides, we'd have to go back down and shop some more. More sunshine time!

I'm finding myself recording programs to watch later (so I can zip through the commercials) and wasting far too much time watching said programs. Sometimes I get a prick of sentimentality and record a movie I liked years ago. Never seem to get to them. The only good thing is getting some walking in place done while I watch. I was disappointed to find that the Hallmark channel was taken off my list. One day it's there, the next it's gone. Oh, these cable companies, how they hook customers, then snatch away what they've come to expect. I'm not paying $10 extra a month to get one channel.

Pat, it sounds like you had a nice time. Did you find a place to flip or to rent out?
I enjoyed the Flower Show in Philadelphia. Bought a couple of new garden tools. Looking forward to trying the new weed puller but of course the nice weather is during the week and the weekend looks cold again.
Getting quotes for siding this week. One company already has strikes against it---showing up early when no one was home and taking over a week to get a quote to us. The company that came yesterday gave us quotes and options with the visit. One more company coming today.

Grey is one of the "in" colors. Should look nice with the maroon.

Vacation was a nice getaway. It got a little breezy one day, so that was not a beach day. DH had five employee reviews he had to get done, so that cut into his time. Saw the Selby Botanical Gardens and ate at some wonderful restaurants -- Columbia's at St. Armand's Circle had a great shrimp with crab dish. Found a great breakfast place, Max's Table, where we were so pleased with the food, we ate there four times! Spent one afternoon with a realtor, looking at potential places to fix up and put on Airbnb.

Pat, hope you have a good time on your vacation. Almost all the ones we checked out are ones we know about and have a good reputation so we will probably go with one of them---but I think we are going to get 5 quotes before deciding---I know at least one of them has a grey siding ---actually I think I saw 3 shades---that is what I would have had the house painted to go with the maroon trim already on the house---easier to not have to repaint the porch trim as we would have to remove the screening and I know my son would not be happy to have to redo that for us---LOL---and I think the gray would look good with it. I don't want white, for sure!

Seems like in our area, those things seem to only show companies that aren't even local---like they think we are close to Baltimore or DC---and we are not close---over 2 to 3 hours away. And even though they say they don't pay those places pay to have their names on those sites---so not sure how I would find a reliable sight for here. And some of them delete negative posts of a company. Plus it doesn't help that I don't know my way around the internet that well---I might ask my sons if they know of anyone---esp. my firefighter son---he knows a lot of people and what they do. But thanks for the idea ---I might get my tech savvy son to also check online for me.

Of course you can go on Yelp once you have a painter's name. I joined something called Nextdoor Offshoots. Each group is only available to people within a limited geographical area, but they are all over the country. I'm not sure if it is the same or similar to something I saw being touted on Hallmark Channel's "Home & Family" show, but it helps especially new neighbors find trusted businesses, doctors, services, etc. There is a running summary of recommendations. Surely there must be something of that nature available to you so you don't have to rely on contacting everyone you know to learn of what job they had done and how they liked the work.

Pat, I wouldn't even begin to know how to do that on my phone---plus there are none up here---but sounds like a good deal if you live near one. I love watching Flea Market Flip as it is interesting what they do with odd items---but I do get tired of them only thinking of bar carts for a lot of the items. Why in the world do so many people in New York City drink---oh, I get it---if I lived there I might have to drink to cope, too----LOL But I have seen a lot of interesting uses and repurposing of items on there. Plus I like to see different items repurposed to be used in my gardens.
There is a Home show this weekend in my area---I think we will go to see if anyone who paints houses is there ---ours needs that done but we don't know any who do that kind of thing.

Susan, glad you found a practical use for those drawers. Some people are spatially impaired and cannot turn an item in their minds to see how it could be used otherwise. Once I bought a cereal keeper and the price came up wrong. I showed the clerk the ad, but the top was reversed in the picture. She didn't think it was the same product. emoticon

Lecates, First Watch is a breakfast/lunch only restaurant with healthy offerings. The chain is more popular in Florida, which is where it began, I believe. Should you travel where there is one, sign up for their Sunshine emoticon Club. Your first entree is free, as is your breakfast meal. Every few weeks they send you a $2 off coupon, which you can send to your phone, then show it at check out for scanning.

Off to help DIL at 9:30. No one would care for live plants emoticon , so artificial ones will go there. In another building there is a now unused lobby on a lower level with a plethora of choices. I hope she uses a number of those.

Pat, hope you have nice weather for your vacation. We don't have that restaurant and I have never heard of it before. Are there quite a few in your area of the country? Are you all going to replace the fake foilage with live or use it for something else. Are you going to do anything special while down in Florida?
Susan, glad you found a use for those drawers. You are always coming up with something new to do. Hope your dh has success at this new venture. How is the new job?

Delightful surprise last night. lol
When my mom was a girl, she received a dresser with mirrors. The table part was really just a board connected to two end-table looking things, with a mirror above. Well, over the years she had kept the two end table parts and had used them in many areas of her home.
I have those now, of course. lol.
But the drawers are not wide enough for say....notebooks and such, but they are kinda deep.
Well, last night I was going through some of my files and paper stuff from my greeting card crafts. I had kept the patterns for cards that I had made for different people for special projects, in files. Turns out that if I turn those files sideways standing up and facing left, they can fit write in that drawer. This is the first time I've found a good use for those drawers in three years!
And it looks so CUTE!
It has a shallow drawer above and the deeper drawer beneath and has decorative legs. Mom had them painted nicely and it happens to go with some major pieces of my own furniture.
yea me!

I'm getting ready to focus my brain for a bit on my card craft organization, now that I have my desk corner all set up. There are a lot of paper items that I certainly am not going to put to use. That will be fun to toss!

We had great news. Hubby's state business license got approved, so now he can begin setting up his own business. We do have to amend the name because they made a spelling mistake, but that won't take long.
My husband is going to have so much fun with this. :)

I wasn't cleaning instead of them, I was cleaning up things like messes in the garage (where they never go). Before they come, I gather the scatter rugs and move them all to one area to be vacuumed, clear off counters--things like that. It makes the cleaning go faster when there isn't a great deal that has to be moved out of the way.

Off to sunny Florida. This means a lot of getting out the out-of-season clothes and sorting through them. I just made a batch of gorp (ever heard that word?) to snack on. I used almonds, cashews, walnuts, mixed dried berries, sunflower seeds, mini chocolate chips and coconut chips (more like slices).

Today I'm off to meet a long-time friend at a tea room north of here. Tomorrow I'm helping DIL tear out the artificial foliage from a very long planter in the church offices and measure and design Easter banners for the front of the church. Don't know if we will buy the fabric then, but they sure won't be sewn until after we get back. We'll be eating at First Watch. Do you have that restaurant in your area?

How long is your bus trip to get to the flower show? Are you traveling with friends?

Did a bunch of clean up yesterday, as it was sunny and energized me. All is ready for the cleaning ladies. The kitchen is void of anything on the counters so they and the cupboards can be cleaned. They had to cancel two weeks ago, so the house is definitely in need. Kept up with cleaning the bathroom fixtures, and DH vacuumed before company, but the wood floors need attention.

Washing and ironing are all done. After they leave, I will start packing for vacation. My list is lolling about in my head.

Mom is 94. I will call later today to see if she is more alert and rested.

Unbelievably, I slept from 11 till 8. And I had not taken anything that would make me sleepy. I think the stress of getting ready for a party for Mom, plus two church services did me in.

Got up and started laundry right away. Just heard the little song my Samsung front loader plays when it's done, so it's off for another laundry load.

Guessing you must live near Garfield's home? Sounds interesting. I have visited 5 president's homes---all in Virginia---Washington's, Jefferson's, Madison's, Tyler's, and Harrison's---the last 2 are close to Williamsburg.

For all the planning and purchasing, the family ended up having lobster Newburg in puff pastry shells, fresh asparagus with lemon and steamed corn without the birthday "girl". Son #2 and wife went to pick up Grandma and she was asleep in the bed. Waking her, he found her confused and wanting to go right back to sleep. Aides couldn't get her up either and said she refused food. She has a bad cough, but was fine yesterday. How disappointing.

If I can get my neighbor to join me, I think I'll go to Mentor to the James A. Garfield Presidents' Day festivities tomorrow.

I sure hope they figure out the odor so we can go back to normal.
It is hard to give up certain things----but remember if the kids don't know or want it, it will end up being given or tossed. Tough thoughts on that but maybe it will help you decide. There are certain things I have told my youngest about----he's the one to keep those things----the others would just toss them.

Won't it be interesting to find the source of the odor. A three-day weekend is always welcomed.

I have a load of stuff that is my mom's and I'd like to get it out of here, just haven't quite determined that I can let it go for a song.

Our payment only went up a few dollars. We lived in our former house for 25 years; this one 6.

It's a lovely day, and I'm invited to a double birthday party, but I'd have to get gifts, and I really need to clean my house and get the ironing done so it's ready for Mom's birthday party tomorrow.

Pat, congrats on the shorter mortgage term---did you recently purchase your house to be able to redure the years? We have now been in our house 10 years but got an offer like that ----but it was for 20 years---which is what we have left now--so it wouldn't have made sense---plus i know I have been knocking a few months off at the end by sending in extra money each month--plus I don't want to go over what we pay now. Mine just dropped due to not having to have the 2nd insurance on it for borrowing the full amount---so now I am sending a bit more extra towards the principal each month.
Susan, you have a good system set up for you. Glad your sister is willing and interested enough to help you with those projects. I couldn't even get my sister to help clean out the house when my mom died---and now she is in Oregon so no way for her to come by and help with that stuff. I am glad I kept the things I did because I am sure she would have just thrown them out.
Our school is being inspected and trying to figure out a horrible odor that was making many sick---staff and students---kids had off yesterday but staff had to report to a church for the day. They still have no idea what is causing it but we won't go back in until it is gone---they are not sure what is going to happen at this moment---Federal inspectors and the health department are now involved.
I have a 3 day weekend so maybe I will work some more on the stuff in the spare room and clean kitchen counters. I did get rid of the Valentine llama stuff I had for my gd---took it over to her last night---and she showed me how to use some things on my phone---LOL

Lecates, yep, the lack of clutter is calming me. But since it's not ALL gone yet, I'm mostly happy because I have found places for the things that I can use, OR, have found myself being able to RELEASE other items to a donate pile, now that the emotional hold is lessening since Mom and Dad died.
Having binders is my favorite thing. When my sister is here to help me work on The Collection, it is WONDERFUL to know that as soon as she asks for something, I know EXACTLY where it's at. The different sides of the family are in different 2 1/2 inch binders and since they are labeled accordingly, we can just slide them out and get to work!
Right now my desk top has the last half of photos from one 1960's book that I still need to scan.
I'm kind of on PAUSE while my son is home on Leave, then Sis and I will have more time to get back into it.

Pat, my technique has been to put one item at a time in it's proper place. If it doesn't have a proper place, I create one. I try to do all the same-size binders so they look nice in their place.
I have a zippered binder for ALL my sparkpeople stuff...even a measuring tape and index cards and pens to write motivational quotes on. Now I know where my little jots and tittles go...either on the bulletin board above a desk, or in my binder.

I keep finding photos from Mom's collection...like neighborhood block party photos or reunions or just friends. Instead of throwing them on an EXASPERATION pile to be dealt with later, I just prepare a binder with those plastic sheet protectors and slip the photos right inside. One for Work friends, one for neighbors, etc.
When I find a slip of paper that has an address or phone number written on it, I take it straight to the ADDRESS binder. Even if I slip it into the front pocket for now, at least I know where to look.

One thing I obtained a lot of from Mom's house is un-used desk items. Folders, manila envelopes, blank name tags, empty notebooks, photo paper of different sizes. I put anything like that into the top drawer of my file cabinet.
(My genealogy desk is a door, painted black, lying across two two-drawer file cabinets.)
In the bottom drawer is where I store ALLLLLLLL of Mom's blank genealogy charts and how-to-research information that she obtained from library classes or genealogy club.

So little strategic moves like those, turns the clutter piles into I-know-exactly-where-it-is-when-I-want-it moments of joy.

Annnnnd… I'm also discovering time to do things like you want to do...study.

Susan, as I read your post, then look around my own computer emoticon space, I heave a sigh. Wishful thinking that I will ever get to reading all these books or go back through my notebooks of sermon notes.
Glad you put your shoulder to the wheel and got your space into its happy place. emoticon

Happy Valentine's Day emoticon to all. It's a snow-covered day here, but the sun is out and caused such sparkling on the branches a while ago. I was surprised to see three chipmunks yesterday, running for cover in the backyard.

It's the lack of clutter that is calming you. So glad you are so pleased with all you accomplished. Are you finding yourself finally getting to those things you wanted to do but were feeling so overwhelmed by the clutter? I guess you had to grow up sometime----LOL emoticon

I just gotta say, my craft room, since making an office corner for Hubby, brings me JOY AND DELIGHT!
My writing desk corner is so cozy. I've used the desk a couple of times, but not regularly yet as there is still some tweeking to do among all the drawers, but the all the furniture is where it should be. Every time I walk through the room now, a feeling of delight comes over me. I have a brown ceramic rabbit that my mom had painted back in the 70's sitting next to my colored pencils...makes me think of Beatrix Potter. Gives me a thrill!

I'm so glad I am decluttering and organizing.

I read something the other day; I'm not sure where I saw it:
"Which Decision Moves Me Closer to My Goal?"

I immediately wrote it on an index card and placed it on the pretty bulletin board above my OTHER desk in the Genealogy Room.
Now, when I get overwhelmed by my mother's collection, I get a glimpse of that question...and I gain a sense of calm.
A lot of the projects now are INSIDE projects. Inside drawers, inside binders. It's a peaceful feeling knowing that, when I pull open a drawer, I will see that there is a place for everything and everything can smoothly movie into it's proper place!
Yes, I'm really quite there!
It's like...I've grown up ….or something.
(Yes, I know...I'll be 52 next month....still...….)

Also, when I walk in and see my hubby sitting at his own desk working on a project...my heart skips a beat! It's one of those 'All is right with my world' moments.
It's very unifying to share a 'dream space' together.

Glad your son could help. I am the same way, too.
We had to evacuate our school yesterday---ac unit went wonkers---kids and staff feeling sick---what a mess! I rushed around and aggrevated my knee again.
I did find a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show yesterday----I will go by myself so I can move at my own pace and can rest when I feel the need without worrying I am keeping someone else from enjoying it.

I've been very lazy these last two days. Finished my novel today and did nothing else other than clean up the kitchen and make dinner. Now it's time to clean it again.
DH needed help from #2 Son with a spreadsheet. He's working on the projected budget for this year and is woefully inept (as am I, which is why I can't help) at working with these documents. I went along, because I haven't seen my grandpuppies for almost 3 months (and the kids live 10 minutes away).
DIL has brought up the idea of making banners for the background of the areas where the organ and piano, and the orchestra are. We are live streaming the Easter Sing that evening. We are doing a mock up first, but week after next we go on vacation, and two weeks later they are going.

Pat, glad it went well and that you both could have leftovers to use. Glad you found time to chat with your friends---that is so important---I don't do it often enough myself and then feel bad about it.

That is why it is called a cat and mouse game. I watched my cat bat a mouse around near a pile of leaves and the stupid mouse didn't have enough wherewithal to escape under the leaves.

Dinner went well. Within a couple hours of them leaving, the dishwasher was loaded, run and emptied and the table linens washed. There was enough pork left on the roast for each couple to go home with a carryout container to feed them for the next night and then some. We're having pork fried rice tonight.

Got nothing done today except to read and talk to a friend who called and just needed to chat.

Pat, annoying creatures for sure. My dumb cat catches one, then lets it go---we get so mad at him when he does that! Hope everything turns out well for your meal---it all sounds delish! And glad your dh pitched in with the cleaning.
I did my taxes yesterday and worked on the spare room floor---it does look better in there now. While taking a break and sitting on the bed, I noticed some things I can get rid of on the shelves in there when I get to where I am done with the lower stuff.

DH indeed vacuumed the family room and the stairs. He was cleaning in his office and came up with a swiffer sheet with mouse droppings on it. He said they were on his file cabinet. Eww! His office is an addition and I'll bet that little bugger came in through the gas heater, which is not working. Time to get out the traps.

I watched a number of videos of people preparing a fresh pork shoulder for the crock pot. I got a workout just removing the skin. Truly, I was breathing hard, wrestling with that thing. Mixed most of the fruit for the ambrosia, but will wait till tomorrow to add the pears and mayo. Potatoes au gratin are precooking now. I'll warm them up for a good half hour before dinner. DH picked up some dinner rolls he thought looked good when he was at the store. I planned on making a loaf of that bread that only needs to bake another 10-12 minutes. Oh well, I threw it back into the freezer for another night.

Oh, he can push the dust mop around up there as well as vacuum---LOL
My Dh couldn't go out and putter about yesterday so he actually cleaned something I was going to have him do this weekend with my help. That was a nice surprise. He did go down in the basement and puttered around down there and found some moldy clothes from his dad---his dad has been dead over 40 years---he put on a mask and gloves to take them out and put them in a double trash bag and got them out of the house. Why in the world he even kept them is beyond me? His dad was so skinny and not way my dh could have ever fit in those coveralls. I am glad I didn't know anything about them.

I was telling DH that I wondered how I would make it to Florida, having to sit that long with my current hip pain. He countered that he felt like a cold had settled in his lower back, blaming it on the weather. Ah yes, the old bones can predict those changes. He took some cold medicine and awoke this morning, saying it had done the trick and all his pain was good. Great! You can vacuum! That is the one thing he always offers to do when we are having company, although we have had wood installed in almost all the upstairs rooms. Hmmm.

Do your cleaning in small sessions so as not to aggrevate your back---I do that not to overstress my knee--Just make a list of things to do and cross them off---they will get done this way and you will know what you have done already---and maybe your dh can pitch in on a couple of them.

I just finished spending a lot of time, contacting SP about an ad they have on their site, as well as writing a blog about it. I'll let you read the blog at your leisure.

Because I took a pain pill Monday that made me oversleep Tuesday, then made me drowsy all day (leading to a long nap), I was unable to sleep last night. Finally, I got up at 4, had a bowl of cereal, read for a while, then went back to bed for a couple hours. I need my circadian rhythm back!

We're having some people for Sunday dinner, so I have a lot of cleaning to do the rest of the week. Back issues keep me from tackling it all in one day. If I did, I'd be taking another pain pill and going through this crazy mess all over again. emoticon

When I have some time, I want to look up the Philly Flower Show pix. Wish the smell came with the viewing! emoticon

Pat, the Flower Show is just that---companies have designed flower beds, etc to go with the theme or they do the arrangements to match the theme. There are venders but they are off to the side---and they have lots of interesting items that you can buy. I agree, local ones are not even remotely having anything to do with gardening anymore, but if you need a service done, it is a good place to go talk with people about it and set up appointments. Google the Philadelphia Flower show to see some of the pictures from past years---it is amazing and brings on a desire to get out and plant. And the smell of a lot of hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips as well as a multitude of other flowering items is really wonderful. And there are local gardeners and across the state that put in entries of their plants or create miniature arrangements or designs. I love when they have hats made out of flowers or gowns. The only one I didn't like very much was the Hawaiian theme one---there is only so much one can do with them and as much as I like Bird of Paradise, it just seemed to be the same thing in every exhibit.

If we took the I-77 expressway due north, it would not even take an hour to reach Lake Erie, north of Cleveland. There is an area called Wade Circle where many of the museums are located, including the botanical gardens.
I don't know the trend in Philly, but our flower shows have morphed into Home & Garden shows, where the gardens have sunk into the background and what's left is a plethora of businesses vying to entice the attendees into using their products to improve our homes and empty our pocketbooks. Every kind of business from cable companies to window replacements has a hawker trying to get our attention. After the last one, I think I'll visit the local home and garden tours where we get to see actual family gardenscapes. Those ladies groups always know the best places to visit. So interesting to see how people have decorated their homes and laid out their flower beds.

Pat you sound busy. Bummer that the botanical garden visit was postponed. How far it it from your home? I haven't heard from anyone about the Philadelphia Flower show so going to Master Gardener meeting tonight and hoping to get some info. I would hate to miss going as I really enjoy it.

I took a nap and got up only in time to boil some eggs so DH could have an egg salad sandwich and I could make a couple deviled eggs for myself before we were back on the road to church.

My DIL's uncle's visitation (calling hours) are this afternoon, and this evening I'm back to my friend's office to finish organizing. DH may be on his own for dinner. Sewing this afternoon until I have to leave.

Trip to Botanical Gardens for the orchid show has been postponed till next week. Friend is sick.

Pat, hope you enjoyed the sunshine. We started out with it, then a little bit of rain, then back to sunshine. Our temps are to be in the 60's this week which means I will be cold---LOL I had to turn up the heat as I just could not stay warm--and Dh was too warm.
