Still can't find my afghan project. I think my husband hid it on me.

The Facebook group sound great!! Would enjoy to see what overs crochet. I’m still a newbie, learning the various crochet stitches!!

The other day, using You-tube to view, over and over again, I crochet two ear savers,
The 2nd version is a Single crochet, chain # 15 ? I made extra chain stitches , supposed to be 5 inches in length. Re measured, it is 4 1/2 inches. Need to look in house for two 1 inch size buttons.

That is beautiful.

I haven't been doing crochet lately since I am trying to get into some painting if possible, but I also got in a Facebook group "crochet patterns free" which really is mostly people just showing their crochet projects, but there are links to free crochet patterns. There are some really pretty patterns in there and I am thinking I may try a few of them. They would be something new to make for Christmas next year.

On the hook: Patriotic Pride from Yarnspirations designed by Katherine Eng.

I did swap out one color because I am trying to use up my stash, so it will probably lose a little of its patriotic zing.

Afghan: Pink Moscato Double Shell by Roseanna Beck.

Not in the best colors unless it is going to be used in a hunting stand, but picked up 4 balls on clearance. 75% complete, just need to work about halfway through this final ball and add a border with the remainder.

My kitty also thinks my crochet is hers to lay with, but only for a minute and then she moves on. Just long enough for me to give the attention to her before I give my attention to my crochet time. lol She's a sweetie :) I love cats and crochet - in that order.
I'm now switching from squares for my brother's part of the afghan to the squares for my sister-in-law's part of the afghan - I'm making a letter for each of their names. When I get the project finished I'll share - long way off yet.

My kitty must be kept away from my crochet because she thinks everything is hers to play with or sleep on. LOL I'm amazed at how well she's coming along. This time last year I couldn't even touch her now she lets me pick her up and cuddle. Not bad for a cat born feral..
I'm working on a hat and scarf. Crochet the hat and knitting the scarf.

I have some relatives like that. So I'm donating some afghans I'm making to a local nursing home in their names. Will also do the same next year with caps and scarfs for a homeless charity.

It is too bad that your in-laws can't appreciate all the work you went into to make something nice for them. I haven't got any money for things, so I have been making things for several years or going to somewhere like Dollar Tree. Only one who hasn't really appreciated my efforts is the little girl next door who can't understand I don't have money (she's 6).

JANFOXX2, I'm nervous about making anything crochet for my in-laws, it was them that... didn't appreciate the things I made before for them, never seen them wear them, and probably got donated or tossed. Aunt is the only one who seems to appreciate what I make, so am making her a scarf in her favorite colors. Either the crocodile stitch or the waffle stitch.

I loved making the baubles, we have several for our tree as well as some old-timey ones you had to stuff to get the right shape. I love Christmas, but have not been in the Christmas 'mood' for a while, making those last year really helped me get in the spirit of things!!

I'm looking for the material my friend wants (Chevron that is peach and grey) so far, no luck. She has a different ostomy bag than the usual, so she is sending me a picture today. She sent me her measurements so I can make one of these lacy stretchy bag holders. It basically is to look pretty and keep the bag from moving around a lot. Very pretty, but I need to find a pattern. I'm also making a toddler tie for my little cousin. He's turning 2 soon, grey and blue are his colors, and I'm sure that will be easy to find. Had to actually buy the pattern for that as all the free ones used elastic, and I could not make something that would put elastic around his little neck!! So I bought one that has velcro, much safer!!

Are you guys working on anything new? I'm about to go ahead and start that scoodie till I can buy the material for the tie and the ostomy bag, It will be next week before I can.

The ones I did were with regular yarn, or for a more old fashioned look with cotton yarn... I'll see if I can find if I pinned it and post the link.

Temporarily putting crochet on hold. One of my buddies from high school nearly died, and has to have an ostomy bag for at least a year... and she is getting married in Feb of next year!! So I've asked her if she'd like me to make her some bag covers, especially one to match her wedding dress and a lacy one for her wedding night.

I started crocheting by doing ornaments with the crochet thread. I haven't looked at the ones that are in that email, but I haven't been able to do thread for a long time since I started doing afghans. I hope if they are thread I can do them without constantly dropping my stitches.

The patterns all have the straps/handles crocheted on. I can't make up my own patterns, just have to follow them. Plus I have to have them written out. I can't look at a chart and figure out what is going on. I learned to crochet by reading patterns in books, so that is the only way I can do things. That's how I have been trying to learn to knit, too.

Will this be crochet. Crochet the straps separate or use a sturdier type handles?

On our NextDoor app they are talking about reusable bags instead of using plastic bags, which the city wants to charge everyone for. Sometimes a person has to use plastic bags, I know. But I got thinking that maybe I could make some shopping bags. I could even make them for Christmas presents. I don't know how they would do, but when I get the books finished that I am reading, I will start on some of those.

I'm live in GA, so not used to much cold at all, lol. When we get snow everyone freaks out and everything but Waffle House and Walmart shuts down! So for us, the weather up there will be much colder than what we are used to, but I just found out we may not go, Grandma is not doing so well, so visiting her comes first, we want to make sure to spend as much time with her as possible. This would be a double visit for me as my BFF lives close to her, and I would get to see her for at least part of a day while there. So excited!!

I bought a pattern for 'Audrey Boots.' They have been on my wishlist for a while, I'm going to use the exact same yarn as she uses, same colors, because I just love the way it looks. I have some beautiful wooden buttons that will go perfectly with it. In the meanwhile, I'm going to start on a scoodie with pockets at the end of the 'scarf' portion for YDD, since I have that yarn already. I'm on a spending limit on craft supplies and the next supplies I'm going to buy will be to sew a toddler tie for my little cousin in size 2T for his upcoming 2 yr old pics. So excited!! I'm just learning to sew, and I want to be able to make the tie by the end of the month, so I have a lot of learning to do!! The tie is velcro, not the elastic you usually see, which is why I bought the pattern, I can't imagine putting elastic on a toddler's neck!!

Alpaca yarn sounds so soft!!! There is a specialty yarn store (if it is still open, they tend to come and go) in the next town over, maybe I'll go see if they have some!

There is a yarn made from Alpaca’s, from Alpaca Farms, it is warm, and this yarn is not bulky.
This weekend, there is a wool and Fiber Festival in NJ., many vendors.
I’m attending today, Sunday morning.
The aqua color sounds pretty.
I didn’t know that the upcoming winter for NJ/ NY would be so cold?

Sadly, I have not started on that afghan yet, since I've never done anything so big, it just seems like a daunting task. But I am going through the book Eat That Frog, and the question they asked in the book yesterday was 'how do you eat an elephant?' One bite at a time! So I'm going to start on it this weekend when I watch a show, I'm just going to do my first one with a simple HDC stitch. I really want to do it out of the star stitch, but I've never done that one before. I'm also, once I can get the correct yarn going to start on some boots that I've been wanting to make for Fall/Winter to wear around the house forever!!! I think they are called Audrey Boots, and they are so cute! I'm going to make some for my friend as well. I wanted to surprise her, but I have to get her shoe size, and I don't know any of her friends/family to ask without her knowing. I've got plans to start on a scoodie for my youngest too, it has pockets, so cute! The yarn she picked is a sand/beach theme, she wanted aqua, and she liked the different colors in this yarn out of all the aqua yarns I showed her.

So many things I want to do and I'm going to be learning to sew some baby stuff for my little cousin, I found a tie pattern and just fell in love, and his Mom loves to take his monthly pictures with a tie on and doesn't have any that will fit him for when he is in 2T, so I asked if she minded if I make him some. Going cloth and yarn shopping this Saturday! YAY!!

I haven't been working on anything lately, but have been thinking about what to do for Christmas. I don't know if I can get much done. I was thinking of just using a lot of the leftover yarn I have and making some afghans in mixed up colors. Trouble is, it usually takes me a month or two to get one done and there are at least 3 that I would end up doing them for. Maybe a lap one or something like a prayer shawl? I can finish the sheep I started a year or two ago (I just do things in spurts and this year hasn't been crocheting).

I'm putting off the afghan project for now, I'll work on it till I get my new yarn in. I realized that it is going to be really cold in NJ and NY when we go this Winter, so I must make accessories to go with our outfits! Scoodies, or hats and scarves, whichever the family member wants and mittens, except DH, he'll want fingerless gloves (if I can get him to wear them!). ODD wants black with a splash of silver in it (wool, pack of 3 for $19, is that good deal?) and YDD found an ocean themed multi-colored one she likes (I was looking for aqua, her current favorite color, but found this and she loved it) and red for me, I think. I'll have to check my wardrobe to see. My favorite color is red, but I don't own enough of it!

I'm thinking wool because it would be softer and warmer, what do you all think? My only problem is that it is either that superfine stuff, which I dislike working with because it takes to much time to make, or the super bulky stuff, and I want to make sure it does not have too many holes so that it is warm!

Darlene, I've been trying to figure out how to start the foundation like that too! I agree that from the videos I've seen it look so much better when started like that.

I would also like to see a pic when you get the celtic cross done!!

Currently working on a c2c graphgan It is called Celtic Cross, almost to the first decrease and can't wait to finish it so I can put a back on it and give it to my hubby. The designer I am testing it for has the graph and written color changes so that helps alot.

Oh, I don't think I could follow one of those drawn patterns. It is the worded patterns I follow. I have learned a little from youtube, but I have to watch it several times to see what they are doing. One thing is something called foundation single or foundation double crochet, where instead of a chain you do the first row that would normally just be done into the chain. When I get that right it seems to start things better than a chain because it looks neater. Only problem is getting it right.

I have a basic understanding of patterns, but do much better with the worded patterns or following along on youtube (or making up something from what I know). Knitting I had a hard time learning to purl, and could probably not remember how now!! It is awesome that you can read them!!

I understand about IBS because DH has it, if we go out to eat, it has to be after whatever we are doing out because we have to come straight home, just in case.

I started with knitting, too. I could cast on with my finger style, which left a really long string of yarn at the end, and I could knit and purl, but I couldn't follow a pattern to actually make anything. I got into the crochet following pattern books and didn't have any problems with most patterns. The harder ones that I did have problems with had errors in them. (I did finally find help with one, but the person who helped had to completely make up the pattern for where I was having problems. The other one I had to write to the company that wrote the pattern and then still had to figure out the problem myself. I did go to the knitting at the library year before last and learned how to follow the patterns, at least for some of them.

I am sorry you are stuck at home.. I know that is hard. I don't have the problems you do, but have been afraid to go places many times because of IBS. Just never can tell when a problem will show up.

I hope you had fun at the class, that is a great price! I live in the South East and there is a lot more on crochet than knitting for sure, but I started out knitting. Just never got good at it, I was so darn slow!

There are classes and supplies for knitting, just not as much as crochet. I can't drive (seizures, and I'm in the middle of trying to find a new neurologist because mine won't listen to me) so who knows when I'll be able to drive again and take classes!! But, that is what youtube is for, I suppose. I'm just tired of being cooped up in the house so much!

I didn't take one of those expensive classes, but one at the recreation center. I have a half-price thing there since I am at the low end of Social Security, so the class cost me something like $16 (I think water color would have been $22.50). The recreation center classes are very reasonable. For knitting I can go to the library and that is free. I don't think anyone around here has crochet, though. I was reading that in the eastern part of the U.S. crochet is the popular and they don't have knitting classes. Here everything is knitting and not even the stores have crochet except I think Hobby Lobby has some basic beginner ones (or maybe it is Joanne. Michaels has nothing at all. It's fun when you have a question on your crochet because nobody knows how to help (been there, done that).

Darlene, yikes, that is expensive for a class, but I bet they will love the picture and your thoughtfulness. I'm using red hearts right now, since it is the first time I've crocheted in a while, I told her it would be a simple design, but that when I get more into it I want to make her a nicer one. I heard that if you wash the red hearts yarn on delicate with softner it makes the yarn a lot less scratchy, so I'm going to try that.

I don't really have the money right not to be doing much extra at all, I already had one of each of the colors in my stash (I love red, so I had one of the huge things of it). Aunt just gave me a bunch of yarn, most of which is stuff that I don't like working with, the yarn that is super stringy and it it is either eyelash or faux fur... so I'm giving that back to her, the rest is cute, and will probably make nice scarves for my kiddos, my youngest loves scarves and hats for winter, so I'll make those as side project while working on the afghan, when/if I run out of yarn.

I run in spurts too, sometimes I just want to sit an watch/listen to a show and crochet. Sometimes the thought of it bores me. I finally saw the doctor about the pain in my hand and my finger locking (it is not 'trigger finger') and got some cream so that I'll be able to continue to crochet. She suggested injections, but I get injections for my knee an want to delay getting those as long as possible.

Karri, I used to take mine to the infusion center at the hospital (it's always freezing in there) and also did some for the newborn center. When I could afford to do things to give away I was fortunate for people who appreciated them. I am picky about the yarn I use, too. I hate scratchy stuff so I always have to go to the store to get it so I can feel it. Lion Brand Homespun is nice. I can't think of the other brand I have used a lot, but it does use more yarn because it is a thinner yarn. I think it is Caron. Something like that. I have found some Red Heart that was soft enough to use, but that brand I usually find more scratchy.

I haven't been doing crochet lately. I run in spurts and right now I am trying to paint a dog portrait for my neighbors. They lost their dog to cancer earlier this year. It was going to be their Christmas present last year, but I needed help with it so had to wait until I could take a class. Then I even had to change my media because they no longer teach oils where I went. In fact, I can't find oil classes anywhere but the Art Students League and they are around $200 for a class.

Vanessa that is an awesome idea!! I'm starting an afghan for one of my BFF's her's burned in a house fire years ago, and she is the first person I thought of when I was trying to think of who to make something for that would appreciate it. She wants it in red white and blue stripes. I took the stuff on vacation last week, but could not work on it in the car, and MIL kept us so busy I didn't even get a chance to look at the bag, yet alone take the yarn out!!

If I can get into enjoying such big projects, I think that is exactly what I'll do, thank you for the wonderful suggestion!!

CROUCHINGFLEA maybe you can make afghans that you could take to woman shelters or nursing homes. Those people would really enjoy them. They would not turn their nose up to them and it would give you a chance to do what you love to do. Go back to crocheting.

IOEINC, would love to see a picture too!!

Still trying to find some inspiration. I make mostly hats, finger-less gloves and scarves. Maybe it is time I tried my hand at an afghan. Only problem with that is I'm really picky about texture with afghans. I have several from both of my Grandma's but only use them as decor or keep them put up because they are very scratchy.

I was looking at sweaters/cardigans, the beginner kind that basically start as rectangles, but I still have at least 50 pounds to lose, and I don't want to make something that is not going to fit me later. I usually make stuff for other people. I love sharing my love of crochet, but that is one of the reasons I haven't crocheted in so long. My kids love the stuff I have made them, other's not so much. Even stuff that would have sold for a bunch on Etsy, the people I gave them to (family at that) basically turned up their noses at them. Kind of took the wind out of my sails.

IOEINC - Would love to see your finished afghans. Maybe you could put up some pictures so we could see what they look liked. Always love to see peoples finished projects.

CROUCHINGFLEA - I stick with afghans and scarfs. I have not tried to do a sweater or shirt. I've been crocheting for a long time but still consider myself a beginner/intermediate. I hope you get some more suggestions. Good luck with your project hunt.

I'm trying to find something to work on.... I'm not finding any inspiration on Pinterest... I have found some things I'd love to make for myself once I lose the rest of my weight, but nothing right now. Thinking maybe a blanket? As I am losing the weight I am always getting cold, lol. Used to be I was always sweating and hot! I also want to start on Christmas gifts soon (for those that actually appreciate them). But first I want to start on something for me... any suggestions? I'm beginner/intermediate, not good at reading diagrams but regular instructions and videos are easy. Haven't picked up a hook in a long time and am looking for something that will keep me interested, yet not be too difficult.

SCIENCEFAN7 good luck with your shawl for your doll. I am sure it will turn out fine and look beautiful. Post it to the page once you are done.

FANCYQTR sorry you did not get the costume done. Hopefully, you will be able to get your painting completed. As for the yarn, I know what it is like when they discontinue the color. With the one I was using they did not discontinue it they changed the brightness. So I just adjusted my afghan to use the old skeins at the beginning and the end and the new skeins in the middle. It didn't look too bad.

I didn't get Cassie's costume done in time. I did get several potato chips done, but couldn't get anything to work right for relish. And I need to make some bigger potato chips.

I have been trying to find something I could do for Christmas time, but I have a painting I need to do and don't know if I can really make anything after that. I am just hoping I can get the painting done early enough because I use oils and they take a long time to dry. I haven't been able to start it yet because I don't have the cleaner for my brushes.

I have some yarn I would like to make a scarf or something with, but all my patterns take 3 or 4 skeins or more and I only have one. Besides not having money for more, I can't find the yarn anymore. Seems like it is a discontinued color (several colors on the skein).

That sounds so cute. I would love to see a picture when you are done.

I am working on an afghan. It is done with two skeins of yarn at a time. It is going to be two different shades of blue.

I'm trying to add to my dog's hot dog costume. So far I have made several potato chips and I have a potato chip bag to have them coming out of. Someone suggested I do some relish, but I'm not too sure how to do that. For my side I was going to do a grill with cheeseburger. I don't know if those two together would work for a costume contest, though.
