Hobbs our zucchinis out here on the ridge are just now blooming and I love zucchini breads.
SP has some great recipes for low fat zucchini breads.

Coffee is on the DECK and the birds are singing.
Enjoy your day

Worked in the garden and took two shorter walks today. Ate although about 600 fat calories...Good grief... Made 6 loaves of zucchini bread today. Hot zucchini bread with lots of butter and a glass of milk was dinner tonight. Tomorrow. Can NOT be a repeat of that. Oh dear. But boy was it good. I CAN and WILL have self control although I did not today. emoticon

The 4th was pretty quiet here, I heard no fireworks, I donít know if Mammoth had a show or not, in any case we were in bed by 9, as is our usual. Hope things have calmed down for you Hobbes!

Dan, the pizza sounds wonderful!

We went out on a 16 + mile hike yesterday, it was really beautiful, we hiked to thousand island lake on the PCT. Saw a few backpackers and other hikers, but not much wildlife, I guess they are all hiding away for now!

The taverns are fair full of gadabouts making merry this eve. And though I may press my face against the window like an urchin at a confectioners I am tempted not by the sweetmeats within. A dram in exchange for the pox is an ill bargain indeed.

DUTCHOVENDAN,

Your pizza emoticon Sounds amazing and so do the huckleberries. Lucky you to live somewhere more remote in these times. I am envious.

I actually live in a place that is quite beautiful e.g. driving distance to mountains, ocean, lakes, and rivers to escape. Unfortunately although we live in the very heart of a fairly large city. I feel lucky as my son came home from collage and we can hunker down together to try and get through this while simultaneously protecting my 95 year old Dad. It is going to be an interesting Fall and Winter I have a feeling. Trying not to be overreactive but still preparing for things to get pretty bad. I have been collecting, camping fuel, water, food that can be easily fixed just incase the world goes nuts for awhile. I have solar lights, and solar battery chargers. I do not trust these times.

Convinced my son to go on a walk with me this evening while my elderly Dad slept. We walked 2.4 miles. The intermittent fireworks going off relatively close to us made me feel a bit unsafe and startled me.

I am actually like a dog and truly loathe the 4rth of July. I can not wait until it is over.

Social distancing in my life has not been any different than it has been for the last few years. Where I live in N. Idaho I hear a few people in the larger towns have gotten sick over the last several months but nothing locally.

Iíve been keeping our wood fired oven warm the last couple of months so Iím cooking my favorite pizza tomorrow, mustard sauce, Swiss, onions sauerkraut and some homemade sausages. Time to look fer some huckleberries soon.

Enjoy

We're still in squares, and now have to wear facemasks while inside the gym, but apparently we can take them off in the square for the actual workout. I haven't been since the facemask edict went out, as we are supposed to be on vacation! We're going to leave tomorrow for Mammoth Lakes, since our Glacier trip was cancelled....it's good to be flexible!

Hobbes, hope you like the emoticon !

Good Morning,
Our gym started out with squares on the floor and that was your space. Classes were reduced so no sharing of equipment necessary. Now it is at full capacity, no squares and all back to before the shut down. Everyone is much more diligent about cleaning up after themselves though which is good.
I did not do many of the home wods since I need a translator for the acronyms they use. My old brain just doesnít want to remember lol. It was surprisingly easier than I expected to get back.

My favorite hiking leaders havenít been planning any hikes so Iím just walking the neighborhoods around me. No ďinto the woodsĒ for me yet. Maybe in the fall. It is usually less active in the heat of the summer here anyway.

Grand is sleeping in this morning. Extra time for morning coffee ☕️

What a nice walk, Hobbes! Are you using a kettlebell at home then too? I have a 15 pounder, I would like a 26, but now that my gym is back open, I can use the barbells and that makes me happy! I'm not sure how it's going to go now, though since our governor has mandated masks indoors in public places, we'll have to see how working out in a mask works! So far we have just been distancing, we have squares we stay in to work out that are space out, so the distancing has been pretty good.

Darius, how is your CF handling it? Were you doing any home WODs during the shutdown? I did 2 sometimes 3 a week, as I could.

Our Glacier trip is cancelled, we are going with plan C (or maybe it's plan D by now?) and heading to Mammoth Lakes. I guess I feel pretty fortunate to live so close to such a beautiful area! Hopefully we'll get to Glacier someday, once the pandemic is under control, and such things can happen again!

Good Morning!
We have had one of the best spring seasons ever for our area; enough rain but not too much, which means lower humidity, moderate temperatures for our area and I love it :)
The grand is older and can now ride on the trail being led on his pony like a pack horse behind my horse. We still donít get too far but it is a start.

The CrossFit gym has been open for over a month I am so glad to be back. The first week I was very sore, but thankfully that has passed.

Have to catch up here, guess itís time to sit down with some coffee and read. :)

I was able to get away today and I

Walked 1.9 miles today around my neighborhood. I brought some books for donation to a neighborhood free library. Do you have those where you live I wonder. It is one of the perks for walking.

Another perk is seeing unusual flowers... this is a Passion Flower

Today I saw a swarm of bees, a cat and this girl who hopped up on the fense to take a better look at me. What a sweetheart. I Love chickens.

I second the suggestion of dumbbells and resistance bands. I use mine regularly, along with a yoga mat and inflated stability ball.

Lovely morning here after yesterday's brief but heavy rainstorm.

Dumbbells or kettlebells are both good choices, they are small, portable, and you can do a variety of exercises with them. Bands are good, they are light weight, but still give you resistance training. I'm pretty sure you could find lots of online workouts with any of those things.

I'm just back from a short walk, 1.5 miles by the creek! emoticon

Darn, Sorry to have missed the coffee and fresh sourdough bread on the deck. I will have to swing by more often. Yes, full time parent sitting sounds like just what it is. I miss having adventures but am finding creative ways to entertain us both.

Need to get my body moving. Never ever have been attracted to exercise equipment but this could be the year I bring something home.

Anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. thank you everyone for your kind words about my Dad he is absolutely adorable.

Sure thing, Hobbes, it's nice to see you pop by the deck!

I went to yoga class this morning and it turned into Pilates! (the yoga instructor was sick).

Just got back from a 30 minute hike out back, I only had to duck out to avoid a few people, and the sky is so pretty with the puffy white clouds!

MAUIMA, oh my goodness your poor DH and poor you!

WHAT a bummer.

I've been off the Spark People wagon these past few weeks. My 95 year old Dad had fallen and in ER diagnosed with pneumonia and a urinary tract infection. I actually went with him in the ambulance and they even let me into ER but then was hospitalized and that is when he had to be by himself in the hospital. He was put into the Covid-19 unit for 5 days but did not have Covid-19 as they suspected he did. When he was finally released from the hospital he was either to go to a nursing home or into my care and so here I am full time caring for my Dad 24 seven as they say.

It has been hard to get away and so gardening has been my only outdoor adventure as of late.

Oh, Maui! So sorry to hear about your DH's accident! Falling off a ladder....ouch! Nurse Maui to the rescue again...at least your garden is doing well!

Kelpie, sorry your post went missing...but thanks for the coffee and croissants! emoticon

Dan, your neck of the woods must be so much fun watching all that wildlife, like a private Nat Geo out your window!

We now have reservations for Glacier, no camping at all, and we'll be moving around to 3 different areas of the park, it should be fun. Larry says no cooking in the cabins though, I'm a little bummed about that, but I'm sure it will be fine. And probably safer, if the grizzly bears are wandering about more. We did get 2 cans of bear spray, and a practice can as well, seems like a good idea to practice before we would need to use the stuff! Hopefully that won't happen, but better safe than sorry!

It's windy here today...and I'm heading out to get a haircut this afternoon. Wish me luck!

The coffee and croissants were just awesome thanks ...

The birds from the tiny hummingbird to the wild turkeys are hatching out their young ones and sure are sing about them. The white tailed deer are starting to have their fawns out in the hay field. Last week a momma moose had her calf down in the draw a couple hundred feet away it was fun watching the calf trying to stand up for the first time.

Enjoy

Yes, well, it's good to rest some days too!

I got hit by quite the storm on yesterday's walk, snow in June! And today it's sunny and warm again... emoticon

I've postponed my vacation by a week and a half, we'll see if we can get a place to stay by then, our reservations kept getting cancelled. I'm sure we'll be able to go somewhere, but it's good to be flexible these days!

emoticon to you Maui, and sending healing thoughts to both your sons, you have a lot going on, so it's nice to see you pop by for a deck visit! And Cora, what sweet timing? Good that you are close and can help Leilani with her new addition! emoticon

Ice chests should be ready! And steak? What a treat, last time I was at the store I couldn't believe the price hike! Whoo..... emoticon we are sticking with chicken and fish for now!

I did make some blueberry banana muffins (Larry has already had 2!), so help yourself! emoticon The only refined sugar is some turbinado sprinkled on top, other wise, they are sweetened with banana, maple syrup and the blueberries. And no flour, it's rolled oats in the blender! Pretty quick to put together and bake...I may do these again!

Good Morning Deckies!
Happy Saturday!

So good to see the deck lively with you good people.

Yes, I have walked into a new role in life, Nana. Little baby Cora is a sweet little human. I spent the last several weeks helping as best I can to support this new little family, amid many Covid induced complications. But they are truly doing quite well.
And yes, baby Cora enjoys her time with her Nana while mommy showers, or naps...
(Daddy after being off work for almost 2 months , was called back to work the morning after they came home from the hospital. (Which is why I helped so much)

I keep busy mostly in my non Nana time, with garden , cooking, chores, reading. Not much extra time. But thats good medicine for during Covid.

My sons are both currently still quite ill...so holding Cora is quite healing.

My disable son has been quite an inspiration through this time...really not a surprise. He understands why we have to be so careful , so we spend much of our visiting time on line. I do drive up to him monthly and he is managing.

My other son with the Lymphoma has completed his Chemo. He too, an inspirational model of how to take on something like this...it's feels so big, and so hard, and yet, in between cycles on those days he feels well, he is going for walks, even short hikes (They live in hilly country), he bakes his own sourdough bread and pizza. Most days even while sick, gets up and makes his wife breakfast. He's (they) are working very hard at doing every single thing they can do to fight this. He has a scan in 10 days, where he will see Chemo effectability results. Big day. Docs have told him bone marrow transplant is necessary for survival. So the next several weeks are preparing him.
Due to Covid and the Lymphoma, I cannot see him until he is well. Very hard for me.
Prayers appreciated.

The last few days I have been harvesting and processing fava beans. I have the greatest variety in my garden ever and i find much healing and joy out there.

Life is good my friends...
I awoke to a gorgeous day here. photos from Lei of her sweet little girl.

So tonight I'll bring a bounty to the deck to share...
Strawberry salad with a little honey and mint.
Cabbage slaw and grilled carrots.
Since I have the BBQ open...I'll be grilling brats and steaks...
I just dug some early baby potatoes...so..those too...just butter and salt...

Let's gather and enjoy each other's company...
it's been waaaay too long nad I truly miss each and every one of you.

Dan- Tomorrow can we head down to the crik?? Is the rope wing up?
Kay- are the inner tube ice chests tied up?
Kelpie- do you have some french cheeses you could bring??
Slimmer and Snow- Do you know where the turtles are hiding?
Mommy- have you been down to the creek yet?
Desert- Yes...leave no trace! It's the weekend...join us??
Darius- Should we bring the babies?

anyone I missed...join us for the BBQ on the deck. Bring your drink of choice. Let's play at the crik tomorrow...
Hugs all around!
Thanks agin for taking

Will you be treating us to huckleberry pancakes for breakfast soon then Dan? emoticon

I tried to spot the owls again the other day, but no luck, they either left or are better hidden...

I ventured back to yoga class at the gym today, and signed up for a CrossFit class tomorrow, gotta try to get my fit on! I'll see how it goes, it was strange being in a group of people like that, and it was pretty well spaced out, but I was a little freaked by the heavy breathing encouraged by the instructor!

I'll see how my CrossFit structures it tomorrow, they seem to have more rules in place, so I think I'll be more comfortable there. I just have to figure out how to change ahead of time, since the changing rooms are unavailable. I'm sure I can work it out!

Fresh coffee on the DECK for all our Outdoor Buddies.

This time of year the doves are calling more than usual. Their deep calls do sound like an owls when they are looking for their mates.

Mushroom season is over here but I am seeing the huckleberries starting to form on the bushes.
We pick not to far from camp twice a year and get a few gallons.

Enjoy
Dan

It's been very windy here too! I try to walk against it in the beginning, so it helps me get home. Coming from the North of Scotland I've been used to the wind, but not inland like this!

Yes Kay, for lockdown I was teaching from home. So being back in the classroom is very strange.

Sent another weekend at my own home, in the garden, and got the steps and movement in that way. My two girls are heading back to Paris and Berlin, now that restrictions have been eased.

Coffee on the deck sounds wonderful.

I suspect I might be walking in the rain later today too.

And despite my hearing problems (I wear two aids) I've been very aware of the birds when I've been walking in the woods. If it's raining later, I might not get that.

Hope everyone gets some outdoor time.

I've been hearing lots of birds around lately, and while cleaning up the yard I saw robins, blue jays and quail all having it out. Then on my daily hike the past couple of days I've been watching a great horned owl hanging out in a big tree in the riparian area (a stream runs behind the house, and so this area has a lot of big trees and other plants, just much greener than the desert all around it.)

We got some strong winds yesterday, made me tired just standing there...today was calmer, especially in the morning.

Setting in the hot tub on the Deck with fresh ground coffee this morning listening to the new hatch of birds in their nests.

It has started to rain this morning and I donít mind hiking in the rain to get my Outdoors Peoples exercise.

Yep, were you away from work for a while, Kelpie? I imagine it would be strange going back with restrictions after some time away.

My gym's are opening next week with limitations, I'll wait and see what those are, and tip my toe back in that pool as I feel fit. At least the at home workouts have been going OK. I would like some heavier weights though! emoticon

Memorial Day we remember the veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice. Our small cemetery on the ridge has a new care taker this year that was in the military and he has made sure there is a flag on each soldiers grave.

Hi Deckies I hope your all doing fine and having a great weekend. Thereís fresh coffee and biscuits on the DECK.
Iíll be setting around the campfire getting ready to put a hotdog on a stick, to have with some German potato salad.

Enjoy

emoticon Desert! Enjoy your long weekend, I've got one coming as well, I'm off Fri-Mon this next week, we have Memorial day on Monday, so I'm taking the Friday as well.

Dan, emoticon for the hot spring info! I'll have to check those out!

Kelpie, I don't blame you for feeling a bit apprehensive, I'm sure your family will love seeing you, and you, them, but it can be disconcerting to venture out these days...the yoga mat should help!

A quick fly by, and I'll put the coffee on.

This evening I'll head down to my own family home and see my daughters, sil and grandson. I must admit to feeling nervous at the idea of leaving the house. I know I walk most days but it's not the same. Can't wait to see the family though!

I've a heap of work to finish, so I can go and not worry about what has to be done, and concentrate on looking after my grandson, to let the other adults get on with work in the house. There's more sophrology translation to do, but that is a labour of love, and I can do it as and when.

I'll take my yoga mat and nordic walking sticks with me, so as to keep the momentum going.

And there are croissants to go with the coffee.

Enjoy your outdoor time, everybody.

Happy Friday, for those keeping track of what day it it!

I had my last Thursday off...next week I'm off Friday, then Monday for Memorial day, then I work until my June vacation....the plan is Glacier National park, they are supposed to be open....so we'll see! I'm not sure how physical distancing will work on vacation, but we tend to keep to ourselves anyway, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi All,

wow! Another name from the past...!

Hi Snow.... been a longggggggggg time.

I only got on the other day because I finally graduated after 8 years and making a pause on coming to the Deck.

I know the Turtles showed up around my place but only around Christmas and their BirdayDay.. then they went traveling around and I have not seen them either. Wish Wood was back..

I hand out on an Older site and check in there like every day. Make it under 200 for a week.. trying to do it again!.. now

Hope all has been well.

Slimmer

Well, I think you have quite a talent for video, they are well done, and quite cinematic!

We are just back from a 6+ mile bike ride, this was on a forest service road, quite steep, so I mostly pushed the bike up, although I am now able to ride it all the way down! It wasn't too hard to avoid the hikers, since it's a fairly wide and pretty well maintained road.

I tried to make the shots a bit "cinematic" so the video itself won't be garbage. ;)

I am trying to increase the quality of the footage a bit more on each new video that I make, I no longer use the camera that I used for my older videos as the footage was quite choppy, some of those shots are still in this new video because they were recorded during early hikes, but this should be the last video which has any footage of the lower quality camera. :)

Well, Slimmer, we'll take you on deck however infrequently, it's always nice to see you and your lovely artwork! And yes, Wood made the "dead rats" which I believe are stuffed and bacon wrapped jalapenos! I think we could whip some up in his honor for you! emoticon

I just watched the video, Desert, and you can make even garbage look beautiful somehow! But the message is true, we need to be better at picking up after ourselves, be it at home, or outside!

I got in a 5.5 mile hike yesterday, I thought there would be more people out, but I only saw a few others, much less than I have been seeing on my evening hikes during the week...maybe it's getting too warm? Or they got out earlier, or went out later? I did see some bike lights heading down the hill late last night!

And we are planning to get out on our bikes today... emoticon

Looking good, Slimmer!

Did you have a chance to look at my "Leave No Trace" video, Kayotic?
The link's in my signature as I always do for my latest video. :)

Thank you for talking to that couple, Kelpie!
It doesn't matter that it only happens once every few days.. people should think about what happens in a week's time, or in a month! Some people are just too stupid to get that.
Keep nature natural, leave no trace. :)

Hi All,

Thank You!

Kelpie... funny you thought of me flying over Paris... I remember telling the story of everyone going to one side of the plane to look out the window.. I thought that would hurt the plane and maybe make it crash etc... that was when I was 23 yrs old.. I'll be 71 in a few weeks!

Sure we can have some of the ceramics under or around the bottom back of the waterfall.. I do think the Turtles would like that!

I don't know if I'll be back to the Deck... I am on another site and check in with the same group of ladies every day.. I even have an almost 1000 day streak! I only click in on one place with them. I don't know.. we had soooooooooo much fun on the Deck before and without Wood.. can't imagine it to be the same. Odd it has been like 8 years I've really been away.. it took a while to do this!

...hmmmm was just thinking.. was it Wood that made the ..Rats? was that the name um um good!..
...and always ready for a swim in the pool too... in my town they tore out the swimming pool.. I had been going every day.. for exercise.. they are building another but is costing millions and before I paid only $25 for all summer and many times had the olympic pool to myself.. Things change.

For exercise this summer.. they do have a small .. I guess it is a river but only like 2 car lengths wide and 2 ft deep for the most part and fast moving... BUT... we can dig for GOLD in it... I am trying to get my muscles in better shape to be able to handle the shovel and tub to put the sand in.. and hang on to all I need... Remember my town is the First Gold Mining Town in the US.. and it is still here.. just not in Big nuggets... sound like fun to try.

Slimmer emoticon

Hey OP's! Slimmer, nice to see you on deck! And thanks for sharing your beautiful art with us, I'm sorry you can't share it with your community for a while, hopefully September show will happen (safely)... emoticon on finishing your degree!

Desert, I'll have to check our your video this weekend, I'm headed to work soon...it's too bad you had enough images like that to make a video, people really need to be better, and take care of this world, we are not the only ones in it. emoticon

Kelpie, hope you find your bluetooth, And good for you for politely shaming that couple that littered right in front of you, again, people! emoticon

I'm off to work, it's Friday, so happy to have the weekend coming! Just to share a victory I had yesterday, WinCo (my grocery store of choice) had rubbing alcohol available for the first time since early March! emoticon

Slim, well done you. You must rightfully be very proud of yourself.

And, those are really beautiful, are you sure that there isn't a turtle hiding in one of them. Can we put a big one of your sculptures down by the waterfall, and they can play hide and seek. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

So maybe, now that you've got a wee bit more time, we might see more of you??????. The turtles aren't the only ones that have missed you. emoticon

I'm about to retrace my steps from yesterday, as I seem to have lost the Bluetooth for my hearing aid. It'll be like looking for a needle in a haystack, but I have to try.

Desert, hope you get out and about soon. And couldn't agree more with the message. I had a minor altercation yesterday, a couple in a field, taking a photo, held up a piece of paper for the photo, then crumpled it up and chucked it away. I said I didn't think that that was the best thing to do. Whilst they did pick it up, they weren't happy and said it only happened once every few days.......

So, I'll head out now.

And Slim, welcome back! Funnily enough, I thought of you the other day, remembering that you had said you'd flown over Paris. Not many flights anywhere at the moment!

Hi All, Been a long time again.

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 8 years of not missing a semester and times going each summer semester too!

GRADUATION DAY IS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!

I finished my .....BS in Art Marketing!

I still have 4 class for a BS in Studio Art but there are no opening next semester for a seat in anything I need and because of that the college says I have to take an Additional.. 4-5 MORE classes on top of those 4. Well, I may never go after that other degree.

I just wanted to tell everyone from the past Deck.. I sure had a lot of good times here. The Turtles are all upset they were coming for the Graduation which there won't be one. Also not having the Senior Art Exhibit until next September.. but I can share the 3 pieces of art I am showing.

Hello, to everyone.. and make sure you tell... Wood!
..also I probably am under 200 ..again.. as soon as I got there I put on 10 lbs.. now going down again.. aughhhhh.

Slimmer emoticon

They're starting to lift the restrictions here (over multiple phases throughout the next 4-5 months) and I'll probably be able to get out there again in June!

And as a lot of people are starting to flock towards the forests again, I've released a new video using material that I've recorded since last summer, a video that I'm going to try and spread around as much as possible.
"Leave No Trace" is a video title that should need little explanation, it's a video about the trash that people left behind, but really shouldn't be leaving behind.
