no its extremely healthy. we have several members who have had weight loss surgery and are having great success, but i dont know what the protocol is or if they have to alter it at all.

Unfortunately there is a lot of bad press about keto. I know Spark doesnt like it. If you do your research, you will find it is pretty much a miracle. i've been strict keto 3 years. Both my cardiologist and my GP are totally supportive and encourage me all the way. Both keep up with the data and the correct way to do it. even National Institues on Health, who writes the american food pyramid, did a lot of testing and had to admit its healthy, works, and is sustainable for your lifetime.

if you get a chance watch the netflix documentary called "The Magic Pill". Keto has been around since the 1800s, with it being a good diet to prevent seizures. Now they have found it can prevent Alzheimers, Parkinsons, and a host of other horrible diseases. It can totally reverse diabetes. It helps kids with autism function normally or much better than they were. It can help prevent cancer, (most cancers need carbs to multiply and survive).

The diet industry and medical and pharmaceutical commumities would love for us to believe its bad...because its really taking a toll on those moneymakers. There is NOTHING to buy but normal food and cookbooks if you want them (though you can get most everything online if you look for them). You can hire a keto coach but again..not necessary. so the only thing you are buying is real, whole foods. and new clothes if you have weight to lose..haha

I am always thankful that I do not suffer from migraine's. I cannot imagine constantly having my head hurt all the time

And as I mentioned in my other post, I am mostly fine with certain scents, except Pine Sol, Bleach, or yes bug spray. They have a new exterminator and they say they use natural products, but me and my cat both had to smell a root beer smell all night long. Made me ill.

I keep forgetting to try it. When I start getting a headache, I get all spacey and weird in my head. I reach for drugs! Maybe I can remember today. emoticon

Nancy...hold your hand up like you are waving at someone. See the space between your forefinger and your thumb? Use your other thumb and forefinger to pinch the fleshy part of that space (not just the skin). I think you are suppose to hold it for 30 seconds. I'm not sure about that, but maybe someone else can fill in that detail.

My mom said if you pinch the skin in between your thumb and forefinger, that that would help a headache. Don't know if it has helped me, but that is one pressure point.

Well, our website was OldFavoriteSweets.com. Does that tell you anything. Between the stress of running the business and expiring products, I managed to gain 50lbs in 14 months. Thankfully, we closed it down at the end of December.

3 years. i knew what it was couldnt get a doc to diagnose it.
I am as good as i'm going to get. they are calling it "in remission" as i was told there is no "cure" for late third stage. but i havent had a setback since 2002.

The knee problem sounds just awful. Some docs make me sooo angry!! UGH!!

How long did you have Lyme, Nightskystar, before it was diagnosed. ??? Did you fully recover after being on antibiotics and how long did it take???

Wow, my heart goes out to you. It is one thing to have a doctor who just says stupid things. You can just change doctors. But when they mess with your body, your knee, one of the most vital parts of your body, you want to skin them alive. My mom used to say that. Anyway, I am really sorry you have to endure so much pain.

What kind of business do you have?

Me, Nancy? no..although the lyme made it worse. i was kicked by a cow when i was 17 and had one of the first 3 knee reconstructions done. the other 2 were on elderly folks and i was told not to expect to walk without aids. well, i was a distance swimmer and runner and accepted at a forestry school, and i had an excellent surgeon. it took me 6 months but i went to college that fall on my own 2 feet with no walking aids. i was on the woodsmens team, worked as an interior park ranger and lifeguard after college, worked at the 1980 olympics, and didnt have much trouble till i turned 40. At work i turned and my leg didnt and i ripped the meninscus in it in half. the butcher surgeon that i had didnt repair it he removed it and i have bone on bone in my knee. to make it worse he shaved off bone and i have nerve on nerve too. so i live with horrific pain every day. if i ever get some time off i will have a full knee replacement but i have noone to run my business for now.

energy and mood enhancement? yikes what am i doing wrong? it slightly numbs the pain in my knee so i can walk. it tires me out and makes me depressed. but if i dont take it i cant work. i take myself off it for a couple days a week, and in the summer when school is out i go off it for a week or 2 at a time. it has never bothered me to stop it, except for the pain. i'm on very high doses of it, too...

I have to pretty much stay away from Vicodin. It is too easy to rely on it for energy and mood enhancement. I took it for 2 yrs about 7 yrs ago. I really had trouble getting off of it.

Yeah, work friends are like that. They are in a different element. Eventually, they move on. Friends with similar interests or problems are more apt to stick around. But, we still have alone time, that if we don't force ourselves to think about positive things can be very destructive to us. It is a slippery slope just thinking about every bad thing happening to us and in our lives. That kind of takes our being able to do anything out of our hands. I have gone through many years of depression and plenty of negative thoughts, but I honestly think that I'm doing better because I am forcing myself to dismiss those negative thoughts when ever they enter. No situation is as bad as our minds can make it. I also take advantage of the gift of prayer. We are never really alone. And no matter when we pray, our heartfelt prayers are always heard by God.

That is great that you are going to Curves!! I know what you mean about the isolation. I had to quit working so I often feel very alone and friends don't seem to make much if any time for me.

I have tried your approach. I can't find any food triggers, just chemical ones. I know the solution, stay home away from every body else. I just have to go where the "stink" is. I guess I could quit going to Curves, but the exercise is really helping me. I work a lot of muscles that I wouldn't be at home riding my bike & using my 5lb weights. I'm really tired of the isolation too.

Fiorinal as needed and a blood pressure medication every day are the only things that have helped me. I took to the reduction and replacement strategy to find out what my triggers were. especially when it came to food and cleaners. Organic and natural are the bestfor me. Aspartame and phosphates can be real killers. You can talk to your doctor about getting a general list of triggers and then going down the list to see if any of them apply to you.
Oh and a chiropractor helped me but be careful if you already have spine problems.

Hugs are smiles you give with your whole body.

I hope I'm not getting rebound headaches again. That is what happened when I was taking Fiorecet. I had to stop taking it and that was no fun. I heard that Ibuprofen can cause rebound headaches too. I have bulging discs in my neck, but I haven't been having too much pain there lately, so I doubt if that is causing them.

I get Migraine like headaches everyday. Doctors aren't sure if they are migraines, from osteoarthritis in my neck or from Lyme disease. LOL
I agree, it can be really miserable.

I take Excedrin Migraine when I need to or something stronger- but then I can't function.

I have been getting this stupid things every day for over a week now. 3 times, I woke up at 2:30 am with one. I don't know what is causing them. Today, I got one before I left the house, so I took some Excedrin Migraine and went to our meeting. As soon as I walked in, I knew it was going to be bad. I lasted through the public talk and then came home. WAHHH!

when they told me that i couldnt have chocolate, peanut butter or lunch meat i was devastated. i have since learned that tiny amounts over long periods of time allow me to indulge a little without major apain. since i havent found a medication that can treat my migraines, i do my best to avoid all my triggers. it true that you cannot give up your life to avoid the headaches.

Those bother me too. This week was pretty rough. My husband wanted to get the yard and garage fumigated. A woman I know, recommended someone that is suppose to use natural stuff...WRONG!! I told my husband there aren't very many people who use natural stuff. Add this one to the list. I had a headache for 3 days. emoticon

Thank you.

Now I just "pick my battles". If I know that I may get a headache when I am going some where, I just have to make sure it is important enough for me to go. Same goes with people if I know they wear scented products that make me sick. At least it is a vast improvement over what I was going through.

I think exercise is helping me be in a better mood, too! emoticon

It seems that I am not having headaches daily any more. The only time I get one is when I am around any kind of chemicals. I got headaches yesterday and the day before from that. But, both times I took Hylands Migraine followed up with Excedrin Migraine, laid down, and after my nap...no headache! Yipeeee.

Now we'll see what happens when I go to our meeting this morning. emoticon

Hi guys!

I used the Imitrex injections in the early 90's. Every time my husband (with much glee) gave me an injection, I felt like I was having a heart attack. My chest hurt really bad and I couldn't get up for about an hour. So, I was a little hesitant when my doctor gave me some samples of Treximet. They did the same thing. I don't know if I will actually have a heart attack, but since that is one of the warnings, I don't think I will play with fire.

I have been doing pretty well (unless I smell perfumes, cleaning products, etc...) lately. I say pretty well because they will go away just by taking the Hylands (Homepathic) Migraine. It has belladonna in it. That's right, the poison. If it breaks through the first line of defense, then I tried Excederin Migraine and an ice pak on my head. They have been responding to those surprisingly.

I do have a family history of these buggers. My mom, one of her sisters, and my grandmother.

Have you ever tried the imitrex injections? They work a little different then the pills. I didn't really like it because it made me feel nauseous and my face feel really warm. But they just came out with a new med by the makers of imitrex. It is called trexemet. So far I really like it. I take that and bendryl injections. I am not sure if you are opposed to injections.

I have had migraines for 10 years (about 2 a week).I take Imitrex (tabs) but they dont seem to work for me. I was on fiorinal (worked awesome) but it contained to much acetaminophen for my liver and it can be addictive like any pain medication. my doctor wants to put me on antidepressants but i am wary. My naturalist is having me try Curamin. Ill let you know how it works. You are not alone and don't let anyone stop you from finding a fix.

I have been getting migraines since 1989. Maxalt helps a little, but I would still have to pay $99 out of pocket for about 10-15 pills. A little too steep for us. I was on Vicodin for 2 years for back and neck pain. Of course I was addicted after that much time. But my headaches weren't that bad during that time.

Do the Benadryl injections make you sleepy? I think they would knock me out.

I also do bendryl injections. I really haven't had any bad side effects of it. The nice thing is that you can take it up to 5 times a week.. and bc it is so old it is really cheap. Or have you tried maxalt? I know usually when people are starting having migraines, that is kinda a beginner drug. Be careful taking the vicodin, it is very likely that it will cause your migraines to rebound. Also if you have not tried it, you might want to look into a gluten free diet, and try to stay away from caffine.

I used to use the Imitrex injections. My husband loved giving them. But, my chest hurt so bad that I felt like I was having a heart attach. I don't remember feeling nauseous, but I know I had to stay laying down for about an hour. I also tried Trexemet. I had the same chest pain. That is kind of disappointing about the clinics. I kind of thought if all else failed, I could turn to them. I really don't know what else to do. When I get one that won't respond to the other two things, I'll get a Vicodin from husband (he can take them or leave them). That will at least give me 3-4 hours of relief.

I don't think I would make a very good doctor. If I can't think of a solution, I just feel bad. I think I would go crazy if I was a doctor. There are so many things that can't cure. Nice to know there will be a permanent cure to all illness (Isaiah 33:24).

Hang in there! emoticon

Yea I tried the imitrex injections.. but I got the really common side effect of nausea. I have already been inpatient in two migraine clinics. ( MHNI and Diamond headache Clinic) recently I have been trying Trexemet. It is like imitrex in pill form, it is one of the few things I have tried that has worked the slightest bit. I no longer use anything over the counter because it does not work. I do not really have any triggers, except things that I really cannot change.. like the barometric pressure when it is about to rain.. it drive my migraines wild. Also if I do not get enough sleep. Good luck to you!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you are having headaches everyday. I was for quite a while until a doctor told me I was having rebound headaches from the Butalbital (Fioricet) that I had been taking for 18 years. He told me to get Imitrex (which I can't take) or Zomig or one of those and 10 Vicodin Tabs (a month), then quit the Butalbital. Well, I can't afford the Zomig (it is a teir 3 with Medicare), and I can't take Vicodin because I like it too much. But, I did manage to quit the Butalbital anyway. I got a couple of samples from my doctor. Now I take Hylands Homeopathic "Migraine" and Excederin Migraine (store brand doesn't work as well). The daily headaches are gone. But, I still have a lot of triggers that are out of my control (perfumes, cleaning products, etc) and some that aren't. I just found out I get headaches from that new product that comes in lemon and orange in little packets. The ingredients were great, just lemon & orange oils & granules. My head said "NO, NO, NO, NO"!

If you live near a Mayo Clinic they have great specialists for migraine sufferers. We aren't very close to one or I would go.

Anyway, it was nice to meet you.

Spark On!

Don't worry you are not alone. I have chronic daily migraines. ( meaning- I have them ALL the time) This July will be my three year anniversary of having it. But I figure it could be worse. I wish you the best of luck. If you need any suggestions or anything, I would be more then willing to.

Wow, I'm getting tired just listening to you. Four month olds are great. You don't have to train them, you just get to love them. Have fun!

PS Glad to hear you're not in pain. Maybe it is the weather (all over the country?). I'm not hurting much either.

I am glad that your not suffering with the migraine today also.

I took a walk with my dog this morning, made a seven layer salad to take for a lunch tomorrow, weeded some flower beds for about 1/2 hour and now finishing up Spark to go read. Later I will have my 4 month old granddaughter overnight. Nice busy day and not much pain today. Woohoo!

Glad to hear you are not having any migraines today. I thought about you the other day when I went to Borders. I was standing up at the counter by myself waiting for my javanilla (I am addicted to those things) shake to be made when suddenly I smell this strong smell of mens cologne. Now it didn't bother me and I actually thought it kind of smelled good but it just seemed to come from no where, so I turned around and there was this young guy standing. I wouldn't even had known that he was there if I had not smelled him. lol and I immediately thought of you and your stinky ladies, so now I guess you can add stinky young guys to your list Lol.

Have a great day everyone!

I wish that was all it took. I would be free of them if it was. My mom got migraines until she died at 83. I'm trying to use homeopathic and OTC remedies when it is possible. Occasionally, like yesterday, I had to resort to something stronger. Well, today is a new day. It almost 7:00 and I don't have one yet. I'm going to go ride my exercise bike and take a shower. If I make it past those, then I will only have to worry about running into someone wearing scented products like perfume, hairspray, strong deodorant, Tide, Bounce, etc.....

Thanks for your input. I'm glad you don't have them any more. I wouldn't wish them on my worse enemy. emoticon

I have not suffered with migraines like I use to but totally know what it is like to suffer with migraines. I was on numerous meds to control the migraines and I have no idea why they went away. I am not on any meds that I know of that prevents them but I am post menopause so that could be the reason they seemed to go away?

I'm having a dewsie today. It started about 3:00 am. emoticon I do get breaks when I take something, for about an hour or two. Then it comes back to beat me up some more.

Since I get these horrible things 3-5 times a week, I thought it would make a fine "Chronic Illness". How about you? Any other sufferers out there? I guess misery loves company! It is just nice to know you aren't the only one.
