Irene, you are an encourager! Your comment to not dwell on our goofs echoed my dear friend - I got a little scrape on the car bumper this week - no falt of my own but I blamed myself and Dear husband does get upset with little dings in the car... so I was fussing and my dear friend told me to remember I was 67 and have never caused a wreck, never done any major damage and am a very safe efficient driver...Life happens!!! So I smile and move forward.

and yes, I do keep a well rounded health picture in mind...I just seem to concentrate on one area at a time. and this month the other things are more "routine" while I concentrate on study and learning diet methods and facts and efforts. Doing well and happy with progress and the month is already 1/3 gone!!! Where does time fly?

Linda:

You are on the right (and POWerful) track, but don't put all your efforts on "losing weight." While it's important (and life-saving), there are other things that can and do help. Reach out to others in your family, neighborhood, online, or even at your grocery store, etc., ask about them and share your own goals, efforts, etc.

A positive attitude can be extremely beneficial. Let me know how it goes. I DO CARE!

New member - doing well today - ready to learn and approach this problem from new and improved angle of new Dr and new friends and new efforts to lose weight s a means of maintaining my mobility and not losing any more of it. Also am blessed that I don't have much pain with mine - just numbness and the carazy "bee stinging me feeling" in my toes and feet.

Good advice, Deb. Also, try massaging your legs and make sure your feet are warm when you go to bed. Let us know how it works.

Also, if I sit too long, it makes the pain worse in my legs and feet. Just get up and mosey every so often. You don't have to run a marathon, just a little stroll to keep the circulation going. Try it, you might like it. emoticon emoticon

Do you take any medicine for your neuropathy? Lyrica or Neurontin (Gabapentin)? Your dosage may need to be adjusted. Talk to your Dr. emoticon

Good Morning Everyone,
Well I went to a new dr. to see if they could find out where my neuropathy is coming from. I had very high hopes, but as usual there is no known cause. I will wind up in a wheel chair eventully. but hopefully later not sooner. Dont loose faith. One day at a time. I'm praying for you.

today is a bad day. I have been having alot of strong pain issues. I have been having pain shooting up my legs and in my arms. I am at work, but sitting at my desk is like torture. I get off in a little over an hour and i am so glad i can go home. I took my celebrex, but i have a strong longing for my tylenol 3 at home. maybe a lidocaine patch as well. I have to keep a heating pad on my knees to help my arthritis.

My husband swears by soaking your feet in ice water. He said that this was the only way he could make his feet stop burning and tingling. Me, I use a heating pad. I also have a prescription for Lidocaine gel that I rub on my toes, which numbs them, and makes going to sleep easier. I've also found that if I take Vit. B Complex, along with the Gabapentin/Neurontin, that I have a lot less tingling. Try different things to see if any of them help.

You've made some excellent points, Sandur123. I have made myself so unpopular with the Dr's office, that I can feel them cringe, when I call or come in. Chronic pain can make life miserable. Add to that, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, and other chronic illnesses, and you have a recipe for depression. When the medicine you take, given to you by your Dr. in the hopes of making you more comfortable, just ends up making things worse, you know that you sometimes have to take things into your own hands.

I suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, as well as urinary incontinence (caused by multiple sclerosis) and have a real problem just getting enough sleep. I have 3 herniated discs in my neck & back, which cause severe pain, so I see a pain specialist. They gave my a low dose of Lortab to take the edge off the pain & to help me sleep. Turns out that: 1. It doesn't really help me sleep any better, and 2. It actually over-relaxes my ability to breathe, making my CPAP machine leak & whistle, which wakes me up as well. I decided to try stopping the Lortab, and for the last 4 nights, I have actually slept better. The level of pain hasn't changed. It is the same as it was before the Lortab, and it isn't any different than while I was taking it as well. So, I am going to tell the Dr. this and see if there isn't another direction we can go in.

Bottom line... Dr.s have the medical knowledge and training, but only you can know what is going on with your own body. Tell them. Tell them how you feel, about your pain, your depression, your symptoms, your experiences. They won't know unless you tell them everything. I know. Sometimes, some Dr.s only want to discuss one problem per appointment. Mine is that way. You have to be persistent, and go in as often as you can afford to, in order to get everything out. It may just be that there are conflicts with your medication, or your dosage is too high or low. It is well worth investing the time and money into making your life a little more comfortable.

Hi MORMONNOMORE2, I can sympathize with you. We go and see the doctor asking for relief for a pain, and they can't find anything so they just brush us off. We have pain , that is why we are there.

I suffered with chronic headaches. They would literally last for over a month straight. Every single day my head would hurt, and some days it was almost debilitating. I complained and complained to my doctor. AT one point I went to the emergency and they gave me a couple of shots for the pain and told me that as i had had them for over a month at this point the chance of it being a brain bleed or tumor was unlikely as I would have been dead by then. Gee thanks for that. The headaches continued. FInally my doctor sent me for a CT Scan. It came back negative.

In this time I'm also dealing with my injury that constantly hurts me. At some point I had to stop the OTC NSAIDS I was taking due to a confliction with a prescription medication. WOuldn't you know it the headaches stopped. SO I started checking, do you know that long term use of NSAIDS can cause headaches...... Here what my doctor is telling me to take is what was causing the headaches (not to mentions also the ulcers and not to mention skin rashes), and nobody related the headaches to the NSAIDS.

I can also understand your depression. I have many days where I am angry and frustrated to the point of tears because of my situation. Its hard when you are not well due to an injury or disease to not feel depressed and unhappy. I find it very cathartic to talk to others (even by email) and et things off my chest . It helps. Do talk to your doctor if you haven't already about how you feel and be persistent, we all know that our doctors are very busy people but they need to make time for us too, not just all of their other patients.

I will go to my doctor every week if i have to, if I am in pain and what he's telling me isn't helping I will return again and again, until he looks into it further. Be persistent, be a pain, keep on them to dig deeper and find the root of the pain.

Hope the doctors can sort out your pains, depression and diabetes and get things evened out for you so its not such and uphill battle.

Sorry to hear that. I think we all do when there seems to be no relief in sight. Talk to your Dr. Get help. Go to a support group meeting. Think about something else. Get help.

Doesn't it drive you bonkers when you have a complaint and the dr says 'its nothing'? Have you been to the ophthalmologist recently? Sometimes an eye exam can show what is going on inside the head. If nothing else, it may give you a sense of comfort. Worrying about our symptoms goes with the territory and is no fun.

Had a lovely weekend and am glad to be back home. The IVIG that I take for the neuropathy is scheduled for tomorrow. Doc says it may help alleviate some of the tremors I'm having too. Stopped and brought home a watermelon grown locally not too far from here. Ours aren't yet big enough or ripe. A cup of chunks only has 43 calories and 11 carbs. Made a lovely breakfast, adding in a scrambled egg for protein.

Hope a few more members will come by soon. We may be a small group, but have something to offer to others with similar issues.

Happy summer solstice. Today is the day!

Other people taking high doses of B vitamins, like super B complex, have had similar reactions. I got it because of a lack of energy, causing me to sleep a lot, but now I suspect that the fact that Metanx, which is basically B vitamins, makes it have a nerve calming effect.

Good to see you~! Actually, Deb, my dr prescribed the Metanx a few months back. It has had the same result for me so - as long as I'm not on my feet a lot - there must be something to it.

Wishing all a happy Friday tomorrow.

emoticon Lots going on, but I'm pushing through.

Has anyone tried using Metanx? My Neuro prescribed it for me in addition to neurontin, and 90% of my neuropathy pins & needle have been calmed. That is, unless I'm on my feet too much. It really helps me sleep, because I'm not fighting my feet all night long. From what I've read on the medicine, that has been the common results of the combination.
