I did the same as recommended below: gradually increase both, but not on the same run if possible. Sometimes when adding distance, I get to my previous distance with my current internals, but then increase walking if needed on the "extra" distance. That's a safe and comfortable method if you have plenty of time. I increased the distance with an "easier" interval and slower pace, then repeated that distance on my next long run but with my "usual" intervals trying to hit a steady pace throughout. A very enjoyable way, if you have the time (I was training toward a year end marathon, so I did).

It sure helps a lot, thank you.

My HM is not until Memorial Day Weekend and I have been hitting the gym 3-4 days a week and running sporadically. In the past (8 years ago) I did several 25 & 50k's, but now that I am older it seems not so easy anymore. I just do not want to deal with injuries again.

thanks again,

I would suggest both, but I would start with increasing your mileage first then increase (SLOWLY!) your run / walk ratio.

I have a HM coming up at the beginning of March. Did 8 miles last Saturday for my long run, doing 3 mile runs 2x during the week. My run / walk is currently 1 minute run / 30 second walk. I will be running 3 miles today and hoping to increase my run time to 1:15 (keep my walk at 30 seconds). 10 mile run this Sunday, 11 next Saturday, 12 on 01/19, and 13.1 on 01/26. Somewhere in there I will push my run time to 1:30, and that will be it for my March HM (btw, I have two 5K's in February back to back, I'll do a 15 mile long run after that, then taper down before the race).

Hope this helps.

Team - I just started running again after a long recovery; so I thought I would go to the experts to get help with my question on training for a half marathon which is 20 weeks away.
I am currently running 30 seconds and walking 1 minute, now do I want to increase my time and keep the distance the same or increase distance and keep time the same or increase both by 10% ?
thank you in advance
