HI, I'm back after couple of months, and am now heavier than when I started :(.
I moved to Italy and had actually lost weight when I came home...put it down to walking everywhere and eating 'clean' - no rubbish snacking in front of the TV in the evenings (no T.V. helped!!)
Now all my bad habits are back - can't not buy the rubbish as my very fit husband munches constantly with no effect on him, but the temptation is there very evening for me, and while he's out playing tennis, I'm watching TV, drinking wine and eating rubbish (and not tracking lately!).
So I'm back, determined to crack the weight loss this time - I have managed to get out for walks in the park, but getting myself motivated to get out the door is difficult, so I need all the help (kick in the butt) that sparkpeople can offer and discipline (I'll work on that bit!) to stay on track this time!

Hey, I know the feeling. This works for me. If I get stuck or start to gain, I throw my system off by eating something crazy. Keep in mind' do not go overboard. Eat a small portion of something such as pastel, or something else high in calories. I only do this for no more then 2 meals. I keep my exercise routine going and I drink around 100 ounces of water a day. See if this helps you. My eating also includes a lot of fiber.
You will lose, just keep that in mind

UGH! 246. that's the high score in my weight. unfortunately i hit it about 7:30 this morning. Instead of losing, I'm gaining. What's going on with me!!! It's definitely getting to be a problem.

Hi Harpeggio,
You can do this...I know you can!!! Start out slow...build up as you go. Those who start out big tend to fail quickly due to burn out. I started with 10 min mini workouts 3 times a day and built up from that. Today, I workout 90-120 mins a day...sometimes I go on 9-12 mile hikes and it takes 2-3 hours to complete. Just 3 yrs ago, I couldn't do that. So hang in there....YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! emoticon emoticon YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE UNTIL YOU GIVE UP.....REMEMBER ONE STEP FORWARD..TWO STEPS BACK...ONE STEP FORWARD.... emoticon

Boy, it's refreshing to read these. I'm back after neglecting this site for a LONG time, and am now 20 pounds HEAVIER than when I started about a year and a half ago. It's a bit of relief to see that lots of other people struggle too. So many of you seem to be making great progress, and I really want to be one of THOSE people, instead of feeling like I've failed yet again. As soon as I log off of here, I'm going to work out to try and start myself BACK on the road to feeling and looking better. Hang in there everybody!

DMC.....one of the things I have learned on this program is you have to always keep the body in motion in many different ways. If you are doing the same cardio day in and day out....your body gets too comfortable in it's routine. So, yes, you do have to keep the body guessing and either change your cardio program or add to the routine. I was stuck in a plateau for 9 mths and someone showed me an article on Spark about plateaus/cardio program. I did the 28 bootcamp workout and lost 6 lbs in the first 2 weeks and I was just thrilled. Good luck to you. You may have to work on finding what is best for you...you might like to try the 28 day bootcamp with Coach Nichol ...I enjoyed it.

Have you changed up your cardio routine? Every once in a while take a break from walking and do some kick-boxing or other activity to shake up your body. Add in strength training if you aren't already doing some.

GODSCHILD1967,

I am behind you 100%....you can do it!!! It's not an easy road...but it will come off. It was mostly an ounce here and an ounce there that got me to that 34 lb mark. If you ever need a cheerleader to keep you going....let me know!!! I won't let you down. I am so happy to hear about your medication getting less and less. It's such an rewarding feeling when you make it that far!!!! Even if you don't lose the weight...at least you are healthy!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Janetlee. Those are very encouraging words. You are a very courageous person. I totally applaud you. I too have hypertension and taking meds. But my weight has decreased about 40lbs and my blood pressure readings have been excellent so the doctor is thinking of taking me off. One thing that runs in my family is High Cholestrol so my numbers were on the fence a few months ago. The doctor is giving me time to get my diet/exercise together and will check my numbers again in March. I have always followed some commercial diet plan. So now with my Choose to Lose book and monitoring my calories/fat calories I am beginning to lose the need to join WW jitters. In reading your message alone I know I can do this on my own. With Gods help and support from folks like you and others. I wish you continued success.. Blessings emoticon

Hi everyone....I want to tell you a little about me ....I read alot of the discussions in here and just want everyone to know they are not alone...just 6 years ago I was on a truckload of meds....for heart, cholestrol, blood pressure, and depression/anxiety. I have hypothyroid and because of this weight gain is a problem for my health. I tried everything in the world to lose ...went on every fad diet and some. The more I fought to lose the more depressed I became...then I was on a vicious gain/lose cycle. I tried to get my doctor to take me off antidepressants because they seemed to me..to make me worse, emotionally and physically. He wouldn't do it. I was at the brink of just wanting to give up...crawl into a crack and just die. I accidentally found sparkpeople on May 15, 2008 and was intrigued. The next day I came back into sparkpeople and started reading others profile. I signed up and started to making goals and soon was losing weight!!!! That alone is a miracle!!! Then I found I could walk upstairs or small hills without huffing and puffing and feeling like I was going to die from a heart attack. Then good news...Doctor took me off the cholestrol meds and hypertenions beta blockers A and B!!!! Still wanted to get rid of the antidepressants...but he said no. He didn't think I was ready...well I KNEW I was ready...and weaned myself off (I don't recommend that). It's very painful and you have to be a strong person to do it...I never knew pain like this!!!! But I was determined. I am now still obesed but sloooooowly losing and I feel good about myself for what I have accomplished. It's small compared to what others have accomplished but I DID IT ON MY OWN WITH THIS PROGRAM!!!!! There is no Mountain too Big for me to climb to the top!!! Everyone can make it...just BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND ACCEPT YOU DIDN'T GET THERE OVERNIGHT!!! And most importantly.....LOVE YOURSELF FOR WHO YOU ARE!!! Many hugs to all of you and I know you will get there someday....just a little determination, Faith, and one baby step at a time!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You guys are all great! I didn't and doesn't happen overnight and neither does taking it off!

I too am instant gratification and I think this is what society has created. We want things and want to see things now. Even me.

But even time needs time. Patience is my serenity!

Don't forget your goals over the weekend and keep up the fantastic work you are all doing!

The truth is we all have our own things to work thru' but take one day at a time in doing so. One day at a time one step at a time.

Keep consciously in your mind what you need to do and you will all get there. Trust me, I think we would all get along! I have more than my share of issues too!

Just remember to keep that stone a rollin', don't stop and don't look back. I too am having a hard week but must stay up!

Take care all and have a great weekend!
God Bless you all!

Contact me if you would like. One could always use more good friends!

Well it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. You know that it will take time. I have a great deal of respect for that. I want instant gratification but know that is not realistic. I am happy to say I have lost another 10 pounds. I am slowly working on getting back into the swing of things because of surgery nad illness but it is working. Keep up the positive attitude and it will work for you too.

Sounds like you and I are alot alike. I am 5'3.5" I weigh 220 now, my goal is 150lbs also. I am on several medications that cause weight gain and sometimes feel like I am fighting a losing battle. BUT, we just have to remember that even though it seems like it, it did not all come on over night and will not come off that way either. I am a instant gratification type person, I am working on that. WE CAN DO THIS!!!

I take antidepressants and mood stabilizers, which make it difficult for me to lose weight. I also have a bad fast-food habit. I am interested in a buddy facing the same issues (or any buddy, really). I am about to turn 41 (in 2 weeks) and have about 90 lbs to lose. BTW, changing meds is not an option at this point. I am just going to have to learn to fight temptation in spite of the obstacles. I could use some help keeping my movitation up.

If that works for you than keep it up. That is great. I am not working on anything at this point because of medical reasons. I have had multiple medical issues over the last several months. I had digestive problems and two weeks ago I had my spine fused. I was unable to count calories and now I can not exercise. I am doing my best to watch portion sizes. That is my only form of weight control right now.

Keep up your good work.

I am working shifts including nights, I am finally getting the idea as simple as it sounds, we just need to eat appropriately and journal what we eat during the 24 hours. Breakfast, lunch, supper, etc. gets so confusing. Sometimes I just pack it all up in a lunch bag and eat till it's gone and wait for the next 24 hours to start. We get tired and it's tiring planning, but it will all come together. Keep looking forward!

You can do it. You just have to think positive. You can be your own best friend or your own worst enemy. It all depends on your attitude. Stay positive and you will be best friends and will work through all of your troubles. Make time to eat right and exercise every day. YOU CAN DO THIS.

Not really a panic button...yet...but I'm really have trouble keeping my motivation going. I work weekend nights which creats problems an food and fitness traking. It also affects my sleep patterns and the amount of sleep I get. I am transportation chief for my DS and DIL, so my day gets broken up sometime 3 times a day. They do try to schedule appointments together, but that isn't always possible. I'm not the most organized person in the world, and I tend to procrastinate when it comes to getting certain things done. And I wont even mention the weather. Brrr. I guess I just need a bit of handholding-buttkicking at the moment. I live alone, so there's no one here to give me a pep talk but me, and I have trouble taking myself seriously.

Just needed to vent, so thanks for listening.

Hi,

My name is Pam and I too take medications that will make me gain weight. I would love to be buddies as I really need one myself. I have been hospitalized a couple of times in the past couple of weeks and my weight loss has had to be put on hold until I am sure my health issues are fixed but I sure am a good cheerleader.

Keep the faith. emoticon

Hi Pattysue,

I am sorry to hear about the poison sumac. That is really tough especially on your hands. Be very careful when touching other parts of your body and your children. Prednisone will make you gain weight so do not beat yourself up over gaining anything right now. Wait until after you have finished taking it and you will be able to take the weight back off. Don't worry. I speak from experience.

Keep the faith. emoticon

emoticon Kind of bummed today. Over the weekend I got Poison Sumac on both of my hands. Went to the dr. on Monday afternoon and was put on prednisone. Monday night I started the same cold that my daughter has been fighting. (Upper respiratory and cough.) Prior to all this I had lost my first three pounds on this site and as of this morning gained it all back. I haven't been able to exercise all week and today I succumbed to the ultimate temptation **The Quarter Pounder with Cheese**. I need help and encouragement to get back on track when this stupid cold goes away!

Welcome. The teams at SP are extremely encouraging. They've helped me through my ups and downs this past month. Would not have been able to do it w/o them. Try doing the team challenges and under other goals you can do different challenges for yourself. That has really helped keep me on track. Holler any time if you need a buddy, I'd be happy to. Good luck on your journey. emoticon

Today is my first day on this site. I am encouraged by the stories and the successes. I know for myself, I need to have the support of other people who struggle with their weight. As if my weight issues weren't enough on their own, now I have the added pleasure to be taking medications that have the side effect of weight gain. I'm not really discouraged, but just sad that it's so difficult. I used to soothe myself with food. I know I cannot continue to do this. A few years ago, I was up to 250 pounds. I don't want to go back there and the scale just said 200 and I freaked. I am only 5'4 so that is way too much weight for me. My goal is 150. I could sure use some encouraging words.

I'm pretty new here so probably not a lot of help but will tell you of a couple things that might be useful ... in case you haven't tried them.

I read somewhere that sometimes when you plateau, it's because your body has gotten used to both the exercises & the amount of calories you're eating. So what the article suggests is NOT that you exercise more, BUT change the activities that you do.

Also, in regard to food (there's a name for this I can't recall) you eat the same amount of calories in a week but "trick" your body by going above or below that level for a day or 2.

Lastly, I think if I were really discouraged, I'd look back over what I had accomplished so far & then maybe give myself a medium sized reward. Then I'd set a new, very short term goal & when I made it, give myself a really BIG reward. emoticon

Hellllppp! Before I came to SP, I had already lost 60 pounds and had begun to plateau, still needing another 50 pounds to lose. I have been on this stupid plateau for over 2 months now, gaining 2 pounds, losing 2 pounds, gaining, losing. I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing, have increased my exercise, stay within my calorie range, have read the article about plateauing and getting past that. I'm just so discouraged and then I thought well maybe I've lost in inches at least and so I measured this morning and that's still the same too. Need some motivation here and right now I don't have it. Thanks for listening.

There is a recipe calculator on Spark Recipes. You can enter your own recipes and play around with lower calories/fat ingredients to see the effect on total calories. Wonderful tool - I use it a LOT.

Tummy fat is the hardest to lose and usually is the last to budge. Just keep on moving and tracking and you will get there. The rule for water consumption is 64 Fluid OZ a day at least.

Have you ever tried to spit instead of Swallowing? I know that this sounds gross but it has to be better than consumming unwanted calories that can add up to a whole lot!!you can simply carry a tissue in your pocket to spit the pastry in after you have tasted it.Hope this helps.

Hi there, I need a little advise on 2 things. ....1) I am a fan of the low carb eating lifestyle, combined with the No S Diet Plan. There is a catch....I am a Pastry Chef. It is REALLY hard to stick to this when you honestly need to keep tasting your product to make sure its on target for the desired end result. When I was following low carb a few years ago, I tried to stay between 20-40 carbs a day to lose weight. This worked really well for me. Having to continuously "taste" also conflicts with the No S Diet (no snacking, no seconds and no sweets - except on S days).... I am at a loss as to how to approach this. How many carbs eaten daily are considered low carb? ...AND 2) With the recent study out that states women actually need 60 minutes of daily exercise in order to lose weight and keep it off.....I currently work out 30 minutes 5x's a week and also do 20 minutes of yoga 5 x's a week....would it be safe to say that because I am on my feet and moving at a moderate pace for 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week (this position started about 8 weeks ago) that I am meeting that 60 minute recommendation? Or do I need to step it up on the work out time?

I really appreciate your feedback...I really want to get in shape and lose this weight...but as a Pastry Chef, how do I do that? emoticon

I'm pretty sure your calories are going up because of your activity. Mine has went up several times as I exercise more and need more calories.
