That's the problem we have here - too hilly. Too much up and down probably is what did my hip in in the first place. Now I can't do it - at least until all is healed. I love it here but do miss my flat walks before moving here.

For fun this week, I went swimming, then noticed a class for seniors with arthritis. I don't have a lot of problems but it is affecting my hands and hip. I thought I'd learn things to do in the pool when I get back to Florida. Well it about killed my hands because they used foam barbells which I had to keep underwater and do all the arm barbell activities you do on dry land and then some. Had to put the barbells on the side of the pool for a while, but it was still a workout either way. Should have seen me trying to balance with those things under my knees. My obliques made themselves known. I thought they had dried up.

I also tried to keep up with a zumba DVD. Couldn't but had fun anyway. I left the Step by Step DVD in Florida. So I'll continue with that when I get home Monday.

I bought a trampoline and small exercise ball to leave here. I already knew the trampoline was fun. My chiropractor suggested i use the small exercise ball so i did't expect it to be anything more than beneficial. It was that, easy to use, and I could tell it was working muscles.

I continued to try to walk up to the top of Cody mountain. I made it half way. Maybe in the summer I'll make it up that last switchback. I'm not sure if I think the challenge is fun, or if I just think I MUST meet that challenge. I'm thinking I could do it if I could sprout wings and fly back home once I got up there.

I'm looking forward to getting back to Florida where it's
warmer,
flatter for walking,
the pool is heated hotter,
I have a bicycle
my garden is waiting.

I can do 10 minutes and tend to do more. But if I planned for more, I'd probably skip it entirely. The 10 minutes challenge makes so much sense!

This is the end of my 3rd week. I have not tried a workout video yet, but I will tonight. I am going to skip the gym so I can workout at home with one of the videos. I bought the cookbook today (for kindle). I cant wait to try new recipes!

Back again - I have just done 10 minutes, with the timer, going up and down a flight of 10 stairs. I didn't count how many times, and I certainly got slower as the time passed, but I kept going and feel pleased! I love doing what I say I am going to do, and it is much easier if it is just for a short amount of time - I can keep going for 10 minutes, but 30 would be much harder. That is why this challenge is a good one for me.

Bit of a challenging week this week - keeping up my basic exercise, but struggling a bit with trying new things. I will hereby resolve to do 10 minutes worth of something unusual before the end of today - maybe some stair walking in a concentrated 10 minute block! I will report back later.

It's so wonderful to start feeling the benefits of exercising everyday! I've joined a gym and started working with a personal trainer to build strength and work on flexibility. This was so out of my comfort zone a few months ago, but now it's beginning to feel like a routine. One I actually look forward to.

I'm nearing the end of week 3 and still loving it. I was able to incorporate some of the sparkpeople workout videos. They were perfect for me! I am recovering from plantar fasciitis and my feet were sore so I did a couple of chair workouts. I never would have imagined that you could get a great workout while sitting down.

This weekend I went to Washington, DC which involved lots of walking. I also created a cool workout playlist on YOUTUBE and found that I can stream it through my Wii on days that I want to do my own at home workout.

Still enjoying exercising and eating healthier. Last night I splurged a little on pizza but didnt let it mess me up and no that it won't be a meal choice for a while. Found spark video on push ups using your hands on the wall. Great warm up exercise gets arms pumping and blood flowing. Definetly going to do those everyday.

I've updated my nutrition and fitness tracker in line with my increased exercise. I increased the number of steps I do to 10,000 a day and have achieved that both days since. Hopefully I will continue to keep that going.

Whew! This has been the longest week in history.....a co-worker passed away tragically. I am a first grade teacher and the emotions that have run through our tight knit building have been enough to make anyone just want to crawl up in a hole and hide. But, with God's healing hand we made it. Getting my five days of exercise in helped a lot! It gave another release for all of those emotions that were screaming to be set free! Glad I had the Spark to turn to as well....
We can do this! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Just started week 3 and feeling a bit disappointed with progress in week 2 as I wasn't able to get to the gym. I have kept to my 10 mins a day fitness video and walking for about an hour each day, but it doesn't seem to be enough to get my weight on the downward spiral. Never mind, if I can keep it up for the next week it should get going again.

It's the start of my Week 3 and I'm feeling great! I've been doing 15 minute yoga workouts, Coach Nicole's seated workouts (when I'm at work - it's so nice to squeeze in little workout at my desk!), and walking.

I committed to doing at least 10 minutes every day and some days that's all I do but other days I do much more than that. There have been a couple of days I've almost skipped. On those days I tell myself, "Just 10 minutes, that's all you need to do." It always works and sometimes those 10 minutes turn into 20. Even when it doesn't, I always feel so proud of myself that I did the 10.

Not sure if I've lost anything yet but I feel so good, I don't care.

I have been feeling fantastic since I started this challenge! I've actually been doing 60 minutes of exercise per day, as an extra challenge to myself. So far, I haven't lost much (YET!), but I have increased energy, better sleep, have been eating less, and making healthier food choices. I love how this challenge keeps me accountable for doing my exercise; the boost in motivation is fantastic!

I didn't do any exercise yesterday. I was just "brain dead" when I got home, so I just sat. emoticon Just now I ordered a couple of dance exercise DVDs from Amazon. One is country line dance, so we'll see how that goes. I'm definitely not a dancer and recently feel about as graceful as an elephant on ice. Hoping they will be fun, though.

This streak has been the single most important factor in my turn-around. I've actually been on the streak for 46 days and have been adding a little goal every couple of weeks (like drinking 8 glasses of water). 6 weeks into SP, I'm now trying now for a minimum of 15 minutes and 200 cardio minutes for the week. Also got a fitbit and he challenges me to walk 10,000 steps/day.
Being committed to this streak has also helped me mentally. I've had mostly emoticon days since I decided to join this challenge.

Well, I made it through week three and the time I spend exercising has skyrocketed! I bought myself a Fitbit and it is making a HUGE difference, It gives me the "instant" feedback I am looking for. I am on an extended leave from work due to DH health concerns...the silver lining in all of this is that I have a lot more time to devote to getting fit. I needed this challenge to give me the jumpstart, and it worked! For week three, I added a resistance band work out to my walking plan...and it was HARD! emoticon Oh boy, I got some more work to do, but now I have the energy to do it.

Thanks to all of you out there keeping me accountable and on track...Jane

By starting with ten minutes daily, I was able to build a habit. Now I'm in my fifth consecutive day of thirty or more minutes! I also plan on trying the kickboxing video.

Week 2 was a struggle. Partially having the holidays and my brothers birthday all within a week, and mostly me not motivating myself. Week 3 though so far is going much better! It definitely helps that I'm back on campus (I went home for the holidays) and have a greater urge to get out of my room and go take a walk or friends who are ready to go to the gym with me. So far so good, and looking forward to keeping it up!

This has been awesome so far. I am doing great! I am so proud of myself. I love that it is only a 5 day a week challenge, so if there is any day I really can't exercise (because of work, or because, like last week, I had a cold, or for any other reason) I am still OK. Rest days are healthy as long as you deserve them!

I made it through week 2! I did far more than 10 minutes a day. For me, just getting started is the hardest part.

I decided to break up my routine a little (fast walking) and took a hike yesterday. My FitBit says I did 62 flights of stairs on that walk....wow! I felt it, but I enjoyed the quiet time, the awesome views, and watching the hawks. This week, I am going to add a little resistance band work out so my upper body gets some attention. I love the HUGE selection of videos on SP. The 10 minute stretching video for runners has helped me...not so sore after walking.

During Week 3 I made it a point to take longer walking routes to get to my building at work, go out for coffee and also when I parked in parking lots. I also did Coach Nicole's 10-Minute Cardio Kickboxing workout. Great video! I worked up a sweat and felt great in just 10 minutes. emoticon emoticon

Hi there,

I have been using the videos on Spark from the get go of this challenge, so I am just looking forward to trying some new ones or sticking with the ones I like. I did save the 30day calendar of fun fitness ideas and the 31 December calendar and have found some other FUN things to do. My husband and I just came back from a late night walk and enjoyed the Christmas lights from some houses. I also started looking on You Tube for some exercise videos. It is pretty easy to find legitimate work outs. I try to look at who is providing the video and check out a little more information on the video to make sure it 1) has warm-ups and cool-downs included if it is cardio 2) has appropriate stretches and 3) indicates the trainers credentials. It is kind of fun looking for new and interesting videos!

I've been using Coach Nicole's workout videos for the 28 day Bootcamp. I really love doing them! I even did two extras outside the plan this week. I put on some clothes I hadn't worn since I quit working and the way they fit after only a month was very noticable!!!

My family and I have been walking around the neighborhood in the evening to look at all of the holiday lights. I've been doing a kids' yoga dvd with my little girls, and I've dug out my hula hoop. I also love the bollywood videos on this site, though they are hard for me to do.

Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds DVDs are really awesome :) And you can even buy some that have 3 or 4 different walks on the same DVD so you get more for your money. She also has a lot of different DVDs for different levels of fitness too so you can start slow and increase time and intensity as you go :) She is my exercise of choice because I have fibromyalgia and I can do the workout without setting off a pain flare ... YAY!

CHOLEAGH: when I can't walk outside (that's my gym) I am still trying to find a way to get a good cardio in my living room. I don't have any equipment either. Exploring investing in an adult hula hoop as inspired by Punkadoo. I think I have enough room. Last week I just put on a movie dvd and am watching it in "chapters" while I walk, high step, modified jumping jacks, just move for 10-15 minutes. I am also thinking of looking for a Leslie Sasone walking dvd that some folks have mentioned on Spark. If you come up with any other ideas sure would like to hear about them.

Friday, I decided I wasn't satisfied with the 10 minute video I did. So yesterday I got up and went to the gym! I did the elliptical for 30 minutes! I am loving motivation SP is giving me and the way it makes me feel!

Does any one have any suggestions for good, short workouts when I don't have time to go to the gym? I love the SP videos, but there aren't very many cardio ones, even less when you consider I don't have weights.

For this week I've just been continuing with my already implemented routine of a 20-30 minutes walk every other day, and a dance cardio routine during the other days for 10 minutes...these are the workouts I most enjoy! :)

Hope it is warm enough to go for a walk today. Did my exercise in the living room again last night. I have a hard time feeling that I am getting much arobic benefit. I also really worry about my joints being injured with trying the moves in such a small place. There are also a lot of moves I can't do yet or they hurt my old joints. How was the Barre Workout video, BMCOLLEY? Any suggestions for living room exercise that would fit my physical needs for this winter? I am proud that I have met the 10 minute challenge so far but am worried that I will have the winter gain again this year.

so nice to have some team mates for week 3. Keep the streak going! On did do living room exercise just moving around and doing some abs and dumbbell arm work while I watched a video. Yesterday was a gift that I got home early enough and isn't wasn't so bitterly cold that the dog and I could take a half hour walk. Loved it! Today is going to be too cold so I will go back to the living room and watch some more of the video. Kind of like reading a chapter book.

Yesterday was a pain doing my walking. It was too warm for a winter jacket, too cold for a hoodie. I still got it done though, albeit a little bit slower than I would have liked.
