My biggest challenge will be to let things go. I worry over and over about the same issues when I have little to no control over them. I guess my short-term goal would have to be to walk for 30 minutes a day at least three times a week. Give myself that set time to do all my thinking out in the open air and maybe spend less time worrying overall. We'll see!

I've been on this team a long time and never really looked at it. I'm ready to begin. My first goal is to practice the Serenity Prayer when I feel stress coming on. I'm in recovery and used to use this tool all the time but I don't as much any more.

My second goal is to start a stress journal to see where my stress is coming from and ways to deal with it. Apply the Serenity Prayer.

My third goal is to enjoy the remainder of my vacation - Christmas is always a time of stress due to family issues but this year has been better and the family tug of war is now over. Time to just relax.

Think highly of yourself because the world takes you are your own estimate. --Unknown

My goals are to:

1) Get moving on getting some (light) medication for my G.A.D.
-- this really scares me because a) I've managed to cope for 23 years without anything, and it feels weak to have to ask someone for help, and b) I've seen friends go on meds and have it affect their productivity. However, I've been getting sick constantly recently and the physiological symptoms are too extreme.

2) Recognize that my stressors are not completely in my control and keep perspective on how great my life has actually become in the past year

3) Practice deep breathing when I feel a panic attack coming on

4) Take a moment to appreciate the good things about my day, every day.

5) Drink enough water -- 6+ glasses a day.

Good luck to all of you!

I have a hard time dealing with stress at work, I need to focus on that. Financial stress is big for me, a personal goal I have that will also help with this is to share my side business with everyone I meet. :) My next focus is to closely watch what I eat and to add a new exercise to my routine. I'm not much if a journal person so I hope that part if this challenge will help me lower my stress.

My Week 1 Goals are to
1) Be true to myself. Be honest about what I want when asked my opinion, instead of trying to come up with the answer that will please people.

2) Drink water more consistently throughout the day and cut back on salt. I am tapering way off in the afternoon and the salt is too much, making me feel icky.

3) Listen to music I like first thing in the morning to get myself in a positive mood.

My three goals for dealing with stress are: 1) Keep a stress journal three times a week. I have always loved journaling, and I feel that writing helps me sort out life and feel more centered and balanced. 2) Do yoga every morning that I can. Yoga is a great balance to my driven personality, and I have benefited from it greatly, even though I haven't always been consistent. 3) Have some fun or watch something I know will make me laugh. Laughter is a great antidote for stress, and I need to take more time for fun.

My one big goal for this challenge is to cut out all the diet soda that I usually drink. I know that decreasing my caffeine intake will help me stay calm under pressure (as opposed to my usual freaking out). So far I've made it through three days without any soda at all. I'm feeling pretty positive about my progress so far and I have noticed that I'm not as stressed at work when I'm not super buzzed on soda.

I'm finding it a challenge just figuring out my way around the sparkpeople site, so I think that should be my goal for the coming week in order to really maximize the benefits of being here!
emoticon

Week one has been a week of discovery. I'm getting more comfortable with using sparkpeople and feeling a little more efficient with it. I also tracked my food and was able to make some changes that have resulted in more balanced nutrition, but I still have a long way to go.

I will be having surgery on 12/19 & will be doing the no lifting, bending (or exercise) for at least 6 weeks. Gratefully, my kids are grown and living on their own but I am not known for sitting still very well. My challenge is to relax and give my body time to heal and not to stress over it. I will be writing in my journal, reading (christian suspense), & doing homework from a class I am taking at my church to keep my mind occupied. I am going to learn to "loom knit" and scan family pictures to a SD card to keep my hands busy. I want to learn how to relax and enjoy myself without feeling guilty about it. emoticon

I find Mindfulness(Jon Kabat-Zinn) saves my day. I spend each morning sitting quietly and emptying all thoughts and worries. Concentrating on each part of my body, focusing on any problem spots until each part of my body has emptied its anxiety and worry. I can free my body and mind to start the day clear and free for a few moments. It is like starting each day one day at a time.

My goal for the first week is to do yoga before I go to bed each evening. It really makes a difference to me when I do it.

Also, I want to blog about stress on my home page. I want to increase my awareness of eating when under stress by asking myself "Am I really hungry or am I just responding to something else that is happening?"

i have made it a goal to meditate every eve before i go to bed because it seems when i try and lay down and sleep my thoughts start racing about what i could have done or what i should have done or need to do ... Also i want to write in my stress journal daily, and try to excersize starting twice a week and then building up to 5 times a week.

like most people, i enjoy my fist cup (_)? cup of coffee in the morning. i usually am on the internet while i am drinking it but soon i will have a table and chair outside my apt and then ill be able to enjoy it outside with the birds..

sincerely

im on my way

Week One: Go for a 5 minute walk outside whenever I get stressed out.
Week Two: Do Yoga 20 minutes a day and incorporate it into my workouts.
Week Three: Work on not eating my feelings. Do something else whenever bored/stressed.
Week Four: Take it easy on myself. I stress myself out with everything and then beat myself up over it.

i joined to see if i could lessen my anxiety. im always stressed out over the smallest things, and want to work on that. stress makes me smoke more, which im quitting anyway just for kicks.

i also want to change the association have with food and stress, and not have them be related at all.

Week one I would like to focus on meditating more. It is a quick way for me to calm down and refocus on whats important.
Week two I would like to focus on trully enjoying my weekends away from work and NOT feel guilty about it!
Week three (hopefully ten LBS lighter) I would like to enjoy the first vacation i have taken in 3-4 years. I want to just do things around the house and decompress from the busy season at work.
Week four... see what this process has taught me about myself emoticon

My goal was pretty much the same. For me time I like to write stories, I express in them what i am feeling. I'm really tired of taken care of everyone else, or worry so much whether I'm going to hurt my family's feelings. my sister has depression, I'm only 18, my mother's getting married and i'm planning her wedding. it's so much stress!! and while i give and give for everyone no one worries about me. So mainly I'm going to take care of me. It's nice to know there's someone else out there too :)

My goal for the week is to stop feeling so guilty about the work situation since I am not the one that put us in the position we are in. I will not sign an overtime waiver for the rest of the year. If they insist one person can do the job in 8 hours that we have had 2 people on for 10 a day then they can pay overtime.

I am Serena. I live part time on a ranch on the Columbia River in NE Washington state and part time at a lodge on the western side of the state. I was ready to retire this year and decided to transfer and stick around for another couple years.

My goal for the week is to take some time each day for "me" time. I am always so worried about what I'm going to do or have to do for every one else in the house that I rarely take any time for myself.

I'd like to find a way to not get caught up in work stress/issues. I care about my job (I'm a kindergarten teacher and I love teaching) but our school has poor leadership and 6 years of it has created problems that erupt into out of control gossip and anger. I'd like to find a way to come in, teach my kiddos with love and compassion, and go home without getting snared in the trouble. I want to leave without a migraine!

My challenge for this first week is to pin-point exactly what adds stress to my life. I know that there are some things that are a given stress that I will not be able to eliminate completely, I am just going to have to learn to deal with them differently. Having said that, there are a few things that I know are adding to my stress levels that should be taken out of my life completley.

My challenge for the week is finding time to accomplish everything I need to get done, such as homework, going to school, going to work, dishes, making meals, cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, sleep, etc. If I have time left, I would like to spend time with my loved ones. My stress-busting goal for this week is to sit down & make a list of everything I need to do for the week. I want to make sure I have time or will find the time to do what needs to be done and maybe eliminate what I would like to do, but don't have time for. I will try to exercise more and take more walks, while the weather is decent.

I'd like to spend more quality time with my fiance & cat. I sometimes find that I have spent so much time doing the house chores, cooking, exercising & on my computer (mainly), that they have both gone to bed for the night before I realized I havent spent time with them. My cat sometimes sits or walks across my laptop hinting at me to get off & go play with her outside :(. When I do spend time with them, I have happier days so that is what I'd like to work on the most. That and getting at least 8hrs sleep :)

My goals:
1. Practice patience. Rome wasn't built in a day. Chip away at the stressors a little each day and do not expect immediate resolution.

2. Do not react immediately. Let the conversation/text/email/situation sit for a bit. Identify feelings and emotions and deal with them before responding.

3. Take time to center myself. Walk, stretch, sit with a cup of tea each day. Relax my body and my mind.

For me, I'd just like to learn to cope better when I am under stress, not letting my emotions escalate so quickly, and hopefully learn not to stress eat.

Speak my mind with clarity. I often get misunderstood.

Make time for me! That is hard to do and I always have been putting others first. But truly there is time for me. It has to do with time management. Not being rushed off by the wind doing what others want all the time. Trust me I feel guilty sometime, but actually I am beginning to believe that I am a better me, if I make time for me. Maybe not so stressed out, grouchy, touchy, etc.

These goals are very inspiring.

I hope to:
1. Not take my job home with me.
2. Exercise daily- even if it's just getting off at a subway stop farther away from my apartment.
3. Eat healthy meals 80% of the time (gotta have some fun!)
4. Write a blog post or journal entry whenever I find myself ruminating on a stressful topic.

Best of luck!

1. Exercise daily, no matter how much.
2. Get at least 7 hours of sleep.
3. Don't put things off-keep a planner and check items off when completed.

My goals are going to be simple as I have a tendency to over plan and then not reach my goal.
1. walk the dog every evening and not make excuses not to
2. get at least 7 hours of sleep
3. de-clutter the kitchen

I'lll start with these 3 and see how I do.

My goal is to walk the dog at least 30 mins. 3-4 times week.
Take at least one yoga class, or do the yoga DVD.
Don't search the job postings more then 2x day - this one will be tough.
