Returned to the training program after my daughter's wedding weekend which means I only missed one training day but ate a lot of desserts! My time wasn't great but once I got past the first mile my breathing was OK. I also added 2 weeks so I can run on Halloween. Looked at the 10K training program but decided to just keep going with this program and improve my time.
I laughed at the comments about not liking to run outside because of other people seeing you. I am one of those people who has to say good morning to anyone I pass on the road, It just seems rude not to. Well sometimes I can barely get the words out of my mouth because I am so out of breath. It is funny to watch the people's reactions.....they probably wonder if they should call 911 for the old lady!!
Keep up the great work everyone!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

PMAY, I have the same issues about running outside. I finally started doing it out of neccesity (if I didn't run outside while I was waiting for my son to finish practice I didn't get to run at all) and now I don't like the treadmill anymore. I'm still self conscious and I try to either run really early when no one is outside or in areas where it's not as crowded. When I do my intervals even if it's time to stop and walk, if I'm nearby someone else I keep running (even if I'm dying) just so it doesn't look like I'm stopping because I can't run anymore. The last couple weeks I've been back on my treadmill because I finally got my husband to agree to get moving more and he won't do anything unless I'm with him. He definitely won't run so I run on the treadmill while he bikes on the recumbant. The positive to the treadmill is that I notice a definite increase in my pace. Wisconsin winter will be coming soon though and then I'll be stuck on the treadmill for a while.

Go MSTIRES! I can tell you, you will notice the elevation. I just moved from ABQ where my house was at 5280 (one mile elevation) to LA (basically sea level). I was invincible for a couple months. When I went back to ABQ to visit I figured out what happened. Even though I had continued working out, working out at sea level and at a mile high is really different. Apparently O2 really helps your workout. I still made it but I could tell the difference within the first 20 minutes. You can do it!!!

I ran my first 5K in June at 40 minute and have my second one coming up on Saturday. We'll see how I do as it is at 5,000 ft elevation and I live at sea level.

So far so good. Today went very well. I am add 2-3 weeks to the plan since I want to run the race on Halloween. I am working my way up on speed and distance in the 50 minutes I am doing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Today I ran solid for 42 minutes and covered 4.35 miles including the 8 minutes of warm up and cool down walking. Today was a little tedious but so far this is the first day I was anxious to get finished. I suppose it would be less so if I would get off the treadmill and run outside. I still can't figure out why I am so adverse to running outside where people could see me. I have actually watched myself run in a mirror and I don't look odd or anything (big relief). It is just one of those things that I will have to work through. It is a rainy gray day here in So Cal so the treadmill was a great option today but I am really going to try to work up the gumption to run outside the end of next week or the week after. Friday I will play it by ear and run whatever I feel. I am shooting for 42 minutes at 5mph with a 4 minute each walking warm up and cool down for a total of 50 minutes. I would ultimately love to get to a 10 minute mile also which is 6 mph (if my math is correct). We shall see. I am not in a hurry but am just happy to be able to run! Who'd have thunked it!?!?! Good luck every body. Here's to a great rest of the week!

Awesome job everyone! I'm still working on increasing my time. I'd love to be at a 10 min mile. I start out there but I still can't make it the whole way through at that yet. I'm hoping by Halloween I'll be there!

Today was week 5 day 1 and I am altering the plan a bit. I still can't believe how much I am enjoying this. This week I am going to do 40 min twice and then 45 minutes with a 5 minute warm up and cool down walk. I want to do my race on Halloween Monday so I am going to work some on endurance. I am still on no incline on my treadmill and I want to run the race at the park which as some sloping hills. I think I will try to get to running an hour. I am also inching up my speed as I feel like it. I am not back to 4.8 mph which was what I was doing the interval runs at. I would like to be at 5 mph for my run. I am paying close attention to how I "feel" physically while running. I will add time or speed as it feels right. I am still so shocked that I can do this. I guess I will have get used to it. ;-) Great luck everyone on your training this week and your race.

I am going to add another week of training before I do my 5K. My daughter is getting married on Saturday which should have been my race day!! I will only be able to get 2 days of training in this week. I did 35 minutes/3.3 miles today. What should I be aiming for???
Keep up the great work everyone!!

I ran my 5K on Friday! I finished in 42:39:09 Minutes. I beat my previous time, but I still see room for improvement. The track was pretty rough, it was uphill. I did my best and I am happy to say I would do it again.

I will be running my 2nd 5K today. I am excited. I am not as nervous as I was for my first 5K but I am still feeling a bit of anxiety. I want to do well. I want to beat my previous time and I want to have fun!

My husband will be at my side the whole time. He hasn't been training, but I know he'll make it. He is just there to support me.

Also, My niece will be running the race as well. She is 10 years old and she told me that she was going to beat me wearing flip flops. I laughed.

Bring it On!

I am making good progress on week 5. I am just about ready for the 5K I plan on running this Friday. This will be my second one, so I am not as nervous. But I want to beat my time from my previous run and that might be a challenge. I am going to do my best and have fun in the process.

I started week 5 tonight, but had to bring my 3 year old daughter along in the stroller. We jogged, walked, stopped to look at a catapiller, pick some flowers, etc. So we did 2.8 miles in 45 minutes! We had alot of fun!

Just starting week 5. My 5K is this weekend. I am excited. I believe that I am ready. I will be running the 30 minutes tonight. And after all this training, it doesn't seem difficult to do.

I have also been averaging an 11 minute mile. I am so proud of myself.
