this is uncreative, but I love all things Agatha Christie. Are you enjoying Kamau Bell? I'm reading the Mueller Report. It's a slog, but it feels like my duty as a citizen to know.

Are all of Mercedes Lackey's books kind of social commentary through fantasy plots, or is it just coincidence that it caught you this way right now?

I loved the Narnia books when I first read them. Enjoy!

I am about half way through the last book in a trilogy of fantasy by Mercedes Lackey. Of course it is set on a world that has magic and such. But today I read about 3 pages where a politician is telling how he will mislead the masses to do what he wants them to do. It sounded so much like what is happening today in our world that I thought of coping it and posting it on Facebook for all the world to read. But would any one read that long a posting? I doubt it.
It is the Mage Storm series, Storm Warning, Storm Rising. Storm Breaking. I love this kind of book. But the books the rest of you are reading sound interesting also.

Oh, that book made a mark on me! To this day I have that financial independence conversation each time I'm in a new relationship "before it's too late," and I use butter as chapstick because of her, too. So many horrors in that tale.

I just read A Handmaiden's Tale. I heard that a mini series for TV was made of this. But the best parts of the tale was what was going on in the gals mind. Don't know how they could have shown it. I recommend the book.

book 18 and book 19. Will try to hold the biweekly book pace in 2018. Loved what I read this year, though.

Last weeks page turner was THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US by Charles Martin..from the pics of the movies,,it doesn't appear to follow the book as I interpreted it...

This week was THE BIRTH HOUSE y Ami McKay..another page turner..I could be a faster reader if all books were as good as these two books..

Book 13 was Trevor Noah's Born a Crime. I expected to recognize some of his chameleon experience as a mixed race person, but I didn't expect the reflections on faith and domestic violence that turn out to run through the book. It was moving and funny and thought-provoking all at once.

And then I read The Hardest Questions Aren't on the Test, which is about the school that my new school is modeled after.

Read this memoir by Jessica Valenti. It reminded me how very different these experiences are from one woman to the next. The worst of Valenti's experiences are so far out of my norm they made me gasp, but I was equally surprised when a friend of mine said she's never in her whole life been propositioned on the street, which happens to me on a weekly basis in my late 40s. It's a crazy world.

Still listening to Natural Born Heroes, but also started reading:

Killer of Little Shepherds - non-fiction about the development and history of forensic science and criminal investigation in the late 1800's into the 1900's, tied in with the story of trying to catch a crazed serial killer that was terrorizing France at the time.

and when I need something not so dark:
Jurassic Park :) A favorite of mine!

I may add Natural Born Heroes to my reading list - thanks for that.

I've just started my fourth book of this year:

Rebecca

He drew a circle that shut me out--
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But Love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle that took him in!

"Natural Born Heroes" by Chris McDougall

From the same author of Born To Run. In a similar style, Chris mixes history, science, education, and narrative in a fun-to-read book. He talks about how, since the ancient Greeks, we have looked to "heroes" in life. But what makes a hero? The original word, Heros, didn't mean someone who conquered, nor have anything to do with physical size. Heros, Chris says, meant "Protector." But this book looks less at WHY a person will do something heroic (such as the small elementary school teacher who took on a crazed man with machetes to protect the children) as to HOW they do it. How can people utilize their fascia rather than muscle to be quick and strong? How can a person tap into fat for fuel rather than carbs when they need to run or traverse difficult terrain?

THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN was given to us several years ago by a fellow dog lover. Such an endearing story. Will have to read it again -- it is a quick read.

I'm starting out with MAYBE (MAYBE NOT) by Robert Fulghum, author of ALL I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN. The book jacket states his philosophy as "I believe human freedom can be stated in one term, which serves as a little brick propping open the door of existence. Maybe".

Good Morning! I just finished Karen Kincy's Shadows of Asphodel 15 minutes ago. It was ok, but a bit simple for me.

I am now reading Lotus and Thorn by Sara Wilson Eitene. So far so good!

I just started 'A Place To Belong.'

I'm debating whether to read the Third Story, or move on to my next book -- another Linda Goodnight Book.

Currently, I am reading a Trilogy of stories in a Book titled Cupid Cats. The authors are Katie McAlister, Vickie Lewis Thompson, and Connie Brockway.
The First Story -- Unleashed -- was about Shape Shifters and Trophy Hunting. I was not impressed.
Hopefully the Second Story will be better.
