Boy can I relate to all of these posts! I struggled the first couple of weeks with sugar cravings, I finally get over that hump., I'm exercising and tracking everything like I should for 1 month, then 2, and then I have a day or so I get off track, and getting back on is really HARD! I want to tone up and look good in my spring and summer clothes, and I want to grow old gracefully and watch my kids grow up and marry, have grand kids, and maybe even great-grand kids someday. I lost my mother to cancer, my father suffers heart disease, emphysema and cancer. I have no grandparents left alive, and I'm trying to break the chain here. I don't smoke, I don't drink, but I do crave sweets, chocolate oh that sinful chocolate! I am also going through pre-menopause, symptoms, so losing weight is even harder. I know I can do this, but some days it is just hard to find the energy and motivation to keep it up. I am not fond of exercising, but I enjoy dancing, so I enjoy Paul Eugene workouts. I also like walking, I live in the country so there's plenty of places to walk/hike, and pretty scenery, just don't like to be cold, so been waiting for warmer weather. I also garden, so hoping to plant this weekend, that's a good workout too. If I stay busy I don't eat, so I'm going to try to stay too busy to think about food. I am very involved in my church, I am Youth Leader to 7 teen age girls, we meet once a week. I have 2 kids my daughter is 13 & my son is 10. I also have 3 energetic border collies, and a cat to keep me busy. It is good to know I'm not alone in the struggle! Thank you for posting here, and when I am struggling with motivation, I will come back. Prayer is a big help for me too, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" (Phil. 4:13) God Bless you all in your struggles! I know we can do this, when we are weak, God is strong!

Thanks everyone! Together we can (and will) do this!!

@Morrdea, I also get extreme cravings for sugar after about 1 week of following a somewhat "clean" diet.

I've started logging my food and also started the 5K training on this site. The days I'm not walking/jogging I do Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. It's a start right? . emoticon

Have a great day!

I joined SP a couple of years ago, tracked my food, exercised and lost about 14lbs. Then I quit tracking, ate too much food that wasn't good for me and pretty much gained it all back. I do really good with steady weight loss if I track my calories and make a bit of an effort. But for some reason after I lose 4-5 lbs I get extreme cravings for sugar and backslide. I really need to make it over that hump and stick to it and I know the weight will come off. I'm looking for motivation to stick with a healthier diet and exercise. I take care of a disabled son, which I wouldn't change for the world, but it makes it hard when I am stuck at home all the time and always close to the kitchen.
Thanks for your support and comments, it helps for me to read your posts. And if I remember to drink plenty of water and track my calories, I know I can reach my goal.:) emoticon

I too have struggled with motivation. I get started with a bang and find that it quickly fizzles out. I am hoping that reading "The Spark" and keeping connected through interaction with a team such as this will help me. Making a daily post on this page is also one of my action steps that I hope will keep me going. Good luck. Just knowing that there are so many people struggling with the same things is comforting.

I'm also new here.

I don't know how to lose weight. I've never really tried before. I do know, though, when I've had to do other things in the past that I haven't wanted to do, or that have been hard and tedious to do, I need to remind myself why I'm doing it.

For eg., we've homeschooled our kids for fifteen years (six kids, ages 5-19). Believe me, I have second-guessed THAT decision countless times! But, when it gets really bad, I go back through and remind myself why we made this decision in the first place, and why we've stuck with it all these years. Since I've got about another 13 years of it ahead of me, I'll have a lot more practice with that motivation work!

I figure it's gotta be the same with health and fitness. There are reasons I'm doing this stuff. I just need to remind myself what they are.

Hello,
New here myself. I'm Struggling with motivation as well. I did really well a few years back and have gained much of my weight back. When things were working, I was active on a team, that seems to help. I signed up for a cycling class at the Y to kick start my cardio and I'm going to find a team I can be regular on to keep reminding me of my goals.

Miranda,

Motivation is something I struggle with, especially in the fall and winter. Currently I'm using "spring is coming; do I want to still have these extra pounds in my spring and summer clothes?" as a motivator. I'm going back to square one and started tracking my nutrition again today. I want to look GOOD in the spring and feel tight and toned, so I'm trying really really hard to find my motivation. I believe it's hiding somewhere under the snow piles, so I'll keep shoveling until I find it!

Doing my best...one day at a time.

Miranda - I need to lose 10 lbs too. I have also been struggling with motivation. I am trying the "fake it til you make it" mind set. I am just picking a couple of things to work on right now:

1. Track EVERYTHING I eat. EVERYTHING - even if I blow it.
2. Exercise 3 days a week. Now I am a runner. I really SHOULD do more than 3. But right now, 3 is an accomplishment. I can celebrate that I met a goal. This encourages me.

Another thing that's helped is a Spark Friend is checking out my nutrition tracker log periodically to make sure I'm tracking. She caught me the other day and said, "So, are you not eating??" Motivated me to start tracking again.

So just do it - like Nike says. Fake it til you make it, and that motivation will RETURN!!

Good luck!!!

Hi! I can't tell you exactly where to look on spark for your motivation but I can tell you how it's helped me. I had a lot of weight to lose and it was extremely overwhelming. I went through all the spark pages in the motivational section and looking at pictures of success stories and reading those stories really inspired me...they still do, even after losing 175 lbs. Visual reminders are great for motivation. Put in a place you see often, a picture of something that reminds you of your goal, an outfit, swimsuit,location....something that reminds you of where you wanna be when you're done, everytime you see it.
Hang in there! You can do it! Support is always here on spark when you need it. Now come on lets get to work!

HI,

Can someone direct me where on this site I can find some motivation to help me lose 10lbs? I know what I have to do, but just can't seem to stick with any nutrition or exercise program.
