OK, I'm in! emoticon I'm not to the walker stage yet however, if I don't continue to ' move it ' I will be.

Mornings and afternoon, activity consists of playing toss with Sir Pinkerton ( my 4 legged buddy ). since the temps have been below freezing, 3 throws and Pink's ready to get to the warmth of the inside. So figure 3 ... 10 minute sessions each day.

Day 1 is now just getting started!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm being hopeful here as I know lots of people look but don't post so even if all you do is say Hi, then I'm sure Christine, Marilyn and I will appreciate the extra effort we are all making.

I never even noticed Christine putting up posts down here so message to Christine, how about moving this post up to the top of the list where perhaps more people will see it on a casual glance.

I didn't do much yesterday as I've been a bit out of sorts. Friends are great,friends with colds, not so much, harrumph!!

I do pilates every day for 10 minutes. I suffer from arthritis and I've found that 10 minute exercise keeps me flexible for most of the day. Today I stretched this to 20 minutes and increased the effort level a bit. I have also been in the garden for a little while too.

I hope some others will post their exercise bit too.

Fell by the wayside last year but back on track now.

DAY 1

We should buddy up, if possible, to make this "easier" to do.
Sally and I have decided to do this challenge again. First time you go through the motions, second time, you really make it count.

And I've invited a new buddy to join us - they posted that they were on their own, no buddy to work with, so I invited them along.
This will be fun, especially if ore folk join in , and more folk drop by to comment.

DAY 30 - Congratulations! You Did It!

Yes. This was the final day.

What have I learned?

1. To thank Sally for getting me involved.
2. To contact Sally to see what we'll do next - something different or the same again. (Which I did yesterday.)
3. To agree to start again and do this same 30-day challenge all over again.(Which I did today.)
4. To be more accountable.
I set up the thread, and have posted my days there - just not on a daily basis.
5. To be even more accountable, and more support to Sally - and to anyone else who'd like to join us.
6. I really need to post daily - not in arrears.

So my next post will be - Day 1. emoticon

DAY 29 - Listen While You Work

Well, this tested me.
I actually quite like peace and quiet!
I listen to a story while I pamper my feet!

So I had to force myself.
Combined this challenge with a FlyLady CD - well Eric, not FL!
"Why Not Today" seemed to sum it all up - LOL :)

DAY 28 - Ramp Up Your Routine

Today, take a look at the things in your life that you do for convenience, like online shopping, hitting the drive-thru or driving instead of walking.
Now - find some way to get activity into these situations.

For example -
We got a stair lift installed about 10 weeks ago.
Not only did it allow hubby to get out of hospital maybe a bit earlier than he might have otherwise, but it has made us both re-evaluate some things.
Best of all - neither of us usually needs it, neither of us particularly uses it :)

And I have had to lose weight as I was over the weight limit :(
But so far, I've lost 13 lbs, with just another less than 14 to go :)

DAY 27 - Take Midday "Me" Time

For those at work who have a regular (-ish) lunch break, and for others with a disciplined daily "timetable", this should be so easy!!!!!

A 10-minute walk around, either outdoors, round the building, or indoors along floors and areas you don't usually frequent . . . well, need I say more?

I had a look at the SP list of suggestions - but got side-tracked with a wee article about balance.
Anyways, for using lunch-time to exercise - this is another one where I needed some ingenuity, cos my day-to-day timings are just a disaster.

I fell back on "on the hour, every hour", rather than a one-off at some point in the day.

DAY 26 - Move For a Cause.

Spread kindness while you sweat - do something to help somebody else!

This needed some ingenuity on my part, because usually I'm the one being helped - LOL!

So, I didn't manage to do the hoovering.
But I did get up and down the stairs, several times during the day, to fetch a couple of items of bedding at a time for family to use the air mattress for a coupe of nights.

DAY 25 - Don't Dread the Treadmill.

Whether treadmill or outdoors, try switching up the speed or distance of your walk to give your mind and body a nice change of pace.

I can actually do this while grocery shopping with hubby!
Usually, shopping is too slow to count.
But, If I leave hubby checking some stuff or waiting for other stuff, I can use him as a centre and I can shoot off to pick up various things and return to him - at my speed, which **is** countable :) This works all the way to hubby getting into the car while I return the trolley!

DAY 24 - Pick a Project

A lot of projects around the house take quite a bit of physical effort.
And then, you also feel better afterwards for having managed to get on a bit!
2 wins for 1 activity :)

I'm picking the back garden, now that spring is supposed to be approaching.
I'm very FlyLay here - set my timer and take babysteps so I don't overdo things emoticon
But my first 10-minutes was actually 20 mins emoticon

DAY 22 - Jump Around

Wherever, whatever, whenever - add in jumping jacks, or something: on the hour every hour.
10 minutes if possible, especially for cardio.
Or how's about 1 or 2 minutes Strength Training - stay with on the hour, every hour. It's a good marker to keep you remembering :)

DAY 21 - Say NO.

I just wanted to add in an extra, completely different set of comments for this particular topic.

The idea of putting yourself first is so foreign to most of us, despite what we are told - by family, by friends, by medical folk . . .

Please stop!
Stop wishing you had the time to do something about stuff.
DO something, instead.

I don't have any science behind me for this, but there IS already a load of science out there.
Stop wasting your time.
The time you waste thinking about using your time better, the time you waste thinking about maybe doing a quick 5 to 10 minutes but you can't, the time you waste equivocating . . . .

You could have gone for a 10-minute walk.
You could have gone up and down the stairs 4 or 5 times.
You could have gone out the building, walked round the block, and be back at your desk.
You could have done 2 or 3 Strength Training work outs.

Need I say more :)

DAY 21 - Say "No!"

Put yourself first.
We keep getting told that. And it doesn't necessarily get any easier, does it?

The guilt, the what-ifs, the how-can-I . . . .

I started to learn, a good number of years ago when my sons were born, that I had to become more assertive, to preserve myself.

Assertive does SOOOO ***not*** = aggressive.
But that itself can become quite a fine line to learn, and to cope with.

But i did learn, and it made a huge difference to me while me children were wee.
And it has made a huge difference to me as my sons grew up.
It made a huge difference to me over the years.
And it is still making a huge difference to me, in my current life, retired with husband.

DAY 20 - Bond & Burn Calories

Throw a Fitness Party!

I do, really, love the sound of this.
It's similar to what a friend and I used to do when we became unable to go for a good walk when we wanted.

Have you ever tried seated dance to an ABBA workout?
I am absolutely convinced you and your friend will burn as many calories from the laughing as you're likely to from the dancing :))

The idea to throw an actual party - that is so interesting. I want to bear this in mind and maybe take it further.

DAY 19 - Skip The Screens

This is to switch off from TV, PC, Android, whatever, and be active instead.

I have whittled down TV time over the years.
Now, I'm on-line basically evenings only. And I "multi-task" by having the TV on as well.

Sometimes, this is relaxation only.
Sometimes, this helps me get my exercise -
- dancing (seated) to a TV concert
- doing ST to the adverts . . .

So I have to say - my heart falls, when I come across a challenge to reduce my screen time!

DAY 18 - Pile On The Miles

Add extra steps to your day.
Even 2000 - 4000 extra steps can make a huge difference, especially if you can do it fairly regularly.

I'm going through a phase of hubby requiring me to do a bit extra around the house - preparing us for various things coming up.
So, I'm getting extra activity some days, and extra steps some days.

AND IT IS WORKING - the 5% Challenge, Winter 2017, I lost 11 lbs.
Not quite my full 5%, but pretty close - and I am soooo happy, because it's broken a stumbling block number for me.

DAY 17 - Be An Early Bird

There's a train of thought that reckons it's better to get your exercise in earlier in the day rather than later.
Also, early-day exercise gets you awake and ready for the day.

I do admit to enjoying a (home made) stretching routine, and yes - it makes quite a difference to my mobility.

Have "Plan B" ready for those occasions when time is against you.

This Challenge suggests Coach Nicole's Cardio Kick Start video.
I like this one too - quick to get started, you can make it flexible for you own abilitites, and you don't need to take time to round up any equipment.

DAY 15 - Take a Stand

Stand up for your fitness.
I prefer to be to my feet when I'm talking on the phone. When I was still out at work, I had my phone on top of a filing cabinet.
Even just getting up to answer it was a bit of extra movement :)

I usually try to park at the far end of the car park when we go shopping.
When hubby and I are both in better health, we try to take the bus instead of the car - then there's walking t both ends of the journey :)

DAY 13 - Be a Clean Machine

Just now, I'm trying to spend 10 to 15 minutes each day looking out stuff for the charity shop.
Yesterday, I looked out some vases I haven't used in ages. Then I had to give them a good wash and dry them all before I put them in the "box to go".

Today, I focussed on books.
I have loads of big information books and even more cookery books.
Younger son was home a couple of weeks ago, and I asked him to look through the bookcases - he took 1 book away!
Older son and his wife may be here in 2 or 3 weeks. I'll get them to do the same.
But for the meantime - that's a few books in the box to go.

DAY 12 - Have Some Brain Food.

This seems to be another form of Mindful Moving.
I read the article on Meditational Walking - and stumbled along for that day.

Sometimes the time used exercising can be pretty mindless, or mind-numbing. We just want to get through it.
But the idea of using that time gainfully appeals to me.
It seems to me a way to get 2 things done in one "set" of time - exercise, and thinking.
And when better to do my thinking than when I am boosting my oxygen flow?

And, if you happen to be with a friend, it also lets you check your exercise intensity - still able to talk without being too out of breath for that.

DAY 11 - Get a Move On

Liven up your lifestyle!

Consistency.
SP has emphasised consistency in articles, videos, blogs, you name it.
But we still have to make it happen for ourselves, don't we?

This is something I struggle with.
I know that if I were more consistent with exercise - amount, timing, whatever - I'd get much more benefit from it.

So - I'm going to start to try and get a new habit into my life.
And I know that I'll need to work at this daily for a month or so, to turn the activity into habit.

Activity -
Strength Training.
Upper Body, Core, Lower Body - in that order.
Twice each week. So, 6 days out of 7.

Timing -
10 minutes each day. 6 days out of 7.
Early afternoon, each of these 6 days.

Now to write myself up a "menu" of exercise options for each of the 3 areas.

DAY 8 - Boost Your Calorie Burn

This was my today's task - yes, I'm running behind. I blinked one day and then it was a week later!

Interval Training, High Intensity Training - I don't know if i have already read the articles. I don't remember being aware that Interval Training could be used for Strength Training - it's just called HIT, whereas for cardio it is HIIT!

Gave it a try with a couple of Upper Body exercises.

DAY 7 - Split Your Time

I rarely manage more than 10 minutes of cardio at one time, so this was a good reminder to me.
It's much better to do several lots of 10-minutes than to give up before getting started "because I struggle with even 10 minutes"

Walking Meditation

I wasn't good at this when I tried it previously.
I'm even worse now - I really didn't know how poor my balance has become - definitely need to work on it. Maybe should get the Wii out again.

Day 3 - Hurry Up and Wait

I like this one.

Waiting for the bus - walking on the spot
Checkout queue - grab a tin for a dumbbell and do some arm exercises!
Waiting for someone in the car - get out and do some heel raises or step-ups using the kerb.

Day 2 -

Conquer Your Cardio.

There's a list of 110 things that you could do for a 10-minute cardio burst.

I chose to do a video, though it's not one in the list!
Coach Nicole's "11 Minutes Seated Cardio Video".

I'm hoping that a set 10-minutes per day, plus whatever else I do, will maybe strengthen my back enough to get back to walking for more than 10 minutes at a time.
