Sometimes there are written instructions, but not often. Google Basic Crochet symbols with American Equivalents and it will show you the symbols and tell what sts they are. Once I knew the symb9ls, I found it easier than wordy explanations because it is like looking at a picture of what you are making.

I seem to be the only person who is always needing help. Mostly this is just a question, though. I have been watching Knit and Crochet Now and they often have something I might want to try, but when they put up the pattern they only show the diagram, which I am not sure I can read. When the pattern is in a diagram like that, do they also have written instructions telling what kind of stitches to use? I can follow the written instructions most of the time (unless they don't make sense at all). The pattern they just had on I didn't see anything about what stitch to use.
