I am also working to quit smoking, I have tried Chantix and the patches in the past I may have not been completely ready I am not sure. But what I am doing right now is I download an app on my smart phone called Quit Smoking Slowly.
It helps me be more mindful and aware and is helping me cut down. The goal is to quit slowly over time My goal is 60 days so each day the number of cigarettes is less and each day the time between being allowed to have a smoke with the app is greater as well so it slowly breaks the old patterns.
So Far I am finding this to be a good way for me to reduce and eventually stop altogether

I'm trying to focus on the positives in my life--despite the fact the negatives keep coming and feeling totally overwhelmed by them. Not an easy thing to do--but I won't and can't give up staying positive despite it all.

I am working on buying only what I need, practicing intermittent fasting, and getting regular exercise.

Gluten free is working for me!

It is all about me and what I want/have to do.

A little less about me and what I have/want to do.

I don't know if this will be helpful to you, but I realized that opening my mouth and blurting out the first thing on my mind is generated by being ADD. Since I've gotten on the meds, I'm able to think first before saying things I'd rather not, or shouldn't say. And I can't tell you what a relief it is!

Were you ever told to 'shut up and go to your room' as a child:

Reading your post was reading something I would write. I'm sure people don't call me because they know I'll never shut up. I live alone. I don't use my voice while alone. When out with people I don't use discrimination. I'll say anything to anyone and then I feel remorse.

People just don't behave like this in general.

lets share this together. lindybowers@aol.com Linda

Hey howdy there.

I've got some crazy bad habits, the biggest one that's probably giving me the most grief is nervous babbling. the problem is i end up talking far too much and sharing far too much when i'd rather be quiet and listen. I don't say much at home and when i'm out of the house i'm overenthusiastic and talk about nearly anything (though i try to keep it funny, relevant, or educational--with mixed results). Still, its become a habit somehow to just fill the air with noise, and half the time i walk away later going "sheesh, why did i open my mouth in the first place." I don't like talking that much, i want to be quieter (plus there's a guy at work with a crush who probably thinks i reciprocate because we talk so much. in reality, its more that i can't shut up.)

Anyway, have any of you found some remedies to help you curb bad habits, like physical reminders that you're trying to stop a certain behavior or that make you hold yourself accountable. I was thinking of something i heard once where somebody walked around with a rubber band around their wrist and when they ended up doing something contrary to the behavior they wanted to emulate, they snapped it on their wrist. dunno how well that worked and wonder if it would. Of course, if i don't figure out til after the fact that i'd done the thing i was trying to avoid, will it still work after a while?

If any of you have run across something that worked pretty well, let us know. I'm trying to think of something because my incessant chattiness (and berating myself for it later, and the agitation that results from that) make it hard to clear my mind and be peaceful. I really need to be calmer because migraines are coming more often and my agitation is very noticeable at work.
