Does finding a new job qualify as an activity? That's the most important thing for me to do right now.

Next Goal: To get below to 350 pounds. I did it!!! Woohoo! Yeah!

If you could meet anyone that is LIVING in the world now, who would it be?

That is hard as I have a whole list of people but they are no longer living. I guess I'd like to meet Joyce Meyer.

My Mother had a rule for the household. The kitchen was clean before we went (or she) to bed. I aspire to that. However I would put myself at a 5. I'll go a few days and keep caught up and a clean sink, then fall back and have a sink full of dishes for a few days, then be really vigilant about keeping caught up........Today I woke up to a clean sink. Tomorrow?

Look at the photos below. Now rate how your sink usually looks when you go to bed at night.
1 = sink full of dishes and pots & pans
10 = shiny and clean

2,3,4,5,6,7,8, or 9 = somewhere in between.

----------------------
I'd love to wake up to a clean sink in the morning. And that's one of my goals this year. However, at the moment my history rates me more in the 5 or 6 category. Because I start my mornings off cleaning in the kitchen, by nighttime I don't want to look at it anymore. But things are going to change (promise!).

the question is: What do you whine most about? Usually I don't whine (I've been told this numerous times)...however, when I do....it's about other whiners over the smallest things (it seems to me). But, I've come to realize, that what might seem small to me...could be very big to them. So, I'm trying to be more understanding.....we'll see

As it is National Whiner's Day, the question is: What do you whine most about?

--------------------
My answer: Not to get bogged down here about politics -- but that is my biggest complaint. However, I am an equal opportunity political whiner. Both parties drive me crazy these days with their inability to compromise and get things done. That's my rant for the day. I much prefer to be thankful, especially since it's just the first day after Christmas!

I'd say about the same, but now I have a place to put it all since we moved to a house 2 1/2 times larger. lol
Although now that my kids are graduating, I find myself being able to toss many things that I normally would have kept for the younger children.

Definitely less clutter. We moved almost 9 years ago which helped a lot. And I have continued to work on it. Finally getting DH to see that he needs to get rid of some things. My mom passed away recently and after going through all her stuff, I really do want to pear down more of my stuff. But I am still living and don't want to give up stuff I still enjoy.

Definitely less clutter than ten years ago. Moving 1,000 miles four years ago, I had to downsize. I donated my late husbands library of over 20,000 books to the university where he taught. We had books in every room of our house except the bathrooms.

Still need to downsize. I also am not as drawn to purchase because it is a good deal unless I need it. I have been purchasing items for our Christmas Child boxes as we try to fill 12 boxes. School supplies are cheaper in fall so got those and already have clothing. Still need to get appropriate toys and grooming supplies for these boxes. Sales do help with filling them.

Do you feel that you have MORE or LESS clutter than you had 10 years ago?

--------------
Definitely less, although still quite a ways to go. We moved from Connecticut to Virginia 11 years ago and I'm still working on getting rid of furniture and decor that doesn't quite work in this house.

What helps is that I've stopped accumulating so much. I used to be a sucker for those coupons offering 50% off or such. And those end-of-season sales! Trying now to adhere to that handy rule "One in, one out". What about you?

Susan, I must agree with your husband. When you've got some kind of miserable cold bug or the flu, there's nothing more comforting than homemade chicken soup. Fearing this supposedly terrible flu season, I made some and froze it for "just in case". I've made and ate plenty of soups since but that one is still in my freezer for another month.

ohhh don't know.

With the stomach upsets I would request 7-up and pretzels to stop being queazy.

Colds, my hubby loves to make home-made chicken noodle soup. (I prefer boughten actually). Homemade is an awful lot of trouble to go through for 'just soup'.

What are your go-tos when you are ill?

We are enjoying lemon tea with honey and popsicles. Tonight I'm fixing chicken vegetable noodle soup. My girls are having strawberry applesauce, too.

What's the more recent item you've gotten rid of in your journey of decluttering?

This is NOT my kitchen!

Helped behind the candy counter at age 6. Mom worked there on weekends and the owner taught me how to measure out candy-- they were all in bins. I was able to make change and even figure out tax. If everyone was busy with other customers, that was my job. Now our kids graduate and don't have that skill.

Amazed at amount of freedom I had. As preschooler would walk a block and a half to drugstore to buy comics and a treat while mom was at doctors office with grandmother.

In our town walked to school nearly eight blocks when in early elementary. When a preteen rode my bike over the neighborhood.

Now kids are transported by bus or parents everywhere. I appreciate mom and dad’s guidance and encouragement to be independent. I am sure I was wrapped in prayer.

What is something you did as a child that was OK'd by adults at the time but would be banned or frowned upon now?

When I was 5 years old, my babysitter would send me to the little grocery shop next door to buy a pack of cigarettes for her. The grocer certainly knew they weren't for me but what I'm wondering is "What were they thinking?"

No, that's not the kind of vacation I would want to take. No way to be away from my family for that long anyhow. Who wants to be away from their family while sick?

No. Not worth it to me as I have risk for respiratory complications. However, I understand some college students or impoverished individuals do volunteer for such projects.

Yesterday I heard on the news that the NIH (National Institute of Health) is paying volunteers $3,000 to be infected with a mild-to-moderate strain of flu. Then they're quarantined for 10 days while infectious. Is this something you would sign up with (subjects must be under 50 years old and in good health -- if you're not, pretend you are).

Not me! No way, no how. I've had the flu and lived to talk it. I felt so badly at the time I understood why people die from it. I think a few times during that episode I wasn't sure it that wasn't a better outcome!

Depends on the craft.

I have a place now for crafting, but it's not ready to use, since Mom's things are not dealt with yet.

We have a broom closet in the kitchen that my husband converted into a shelved cupboard. Everything crafty is kept in there with the exception of the sewing machine which is kept in my bedroom closet in the box it came in.

LUCYICANNON's post about organizing her sewing room has inspired this QOTD:

Where do you do your crafting?

I believe I've mentioned here before that the worst clutter area in my house right now is my 2nd spare bedroom aka my "craft" room. Haven't even started on that yet, so in the meantime I move my portable sewing machine or any other crafting to my sunroom. Works well as that's the best natural light in the house -- as long as I put things away immediately when done. A lesson that's taken me more than 60 years to learn!

I never was a collector until our family received my mother-in-laws rocking horse collection a year or so after she died. Now we look for additions from time to time.

Carousel horses and small village houses. But I am ready to give up the horses. Of course I have my huge Christmas Village collection too.

Several items including giraffes and prescious moments figurines. Encouraging people now to give hugs. They are so wonderful and do not take up space or need dusted.
